PURCHASED 2 NEW(?) WRANGLER ST TIRES FROM DEALER ON 11/09/2005 BUT DATE CODE ON TIRE WAS 2504 TO MATCH ORIGINAL 2 STILL IN GOOD SHAPE. BREAKS REDONE FRONT END ALIGNMENT PERFORMED. FRONT END OF TRUCK STILL VIBRATED AT HIGHER SPEEDS ON LEVEL ROAD. DEALER TRIED NUMEROUS TIMES TO IDENTIFY CAUSE OVER 2-3 YEARS. BALANCED AND REBALANCED THE TIRES. DID HIGH SPEED TEST IN SHOP. SUSPECTED TIRES, BUT COULD NOT IDENTIFY EXACT PROBLEM WITH TIRES. ON 30 OCT. 2010 WHILE TRAVELING @ 70MPH ON CLEAR DAY ON STRAIGHT INTERSTATE ROAD, FRONT PASSENGER TIRE EXPLODED. ROAD WAS CLEAR, NOTHING WAS STRUCK BY TIRE, OUTSIDE TEMP WAS ABOUT 73 DEGREES F. TIRE WAS SHREDDED TO BITS AND ONLY HAD ABOUT 31K MILES ON IT. PLENTY OF TREAD AND NO UNUSUAL WEAR PATTERNS. TOOK TIRE TO DEALER AND REPLACED BOTH FRONT TIRES WITH COOPERS AND NOW THERE IS NO VIBRATION IN THE FRONT COMING FROM THE TIRES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVARADO 1500. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE CONTACT NOTICED THERE WAS AN OIL LEAK FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER WHO REPLACED THE TRANSFER CASE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000.
2003 CHEVY 2500HD BRAKE LINE FAILURE,THE LINE RUNNING FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE ABS CONTROL RUBBED THRU AND FAILED IN MY DRIVEWAY. THERE IS EXCESSIVE RUST AND CORROSION ON THE BRAKE LINES IN THIS AREA. MINE FAILED 35 INCHES FROM THE ABS CONTROL MODULE. *TR
2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO SPEEDOMETER SOMETIMES DOES NOT WORK AND PRESSURE GAGE SOMETIMES WORKS INTERMITTENTLY ALONG WITH THE SPEEDOMETER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED TO THE FLOORBOARD; THE SERVICE BRAKES LIGHT ALSO ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE COASTED TO A STOP AND WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE LINES FRACTURED DUE TO RUST AND CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 53,300 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 55,000.
DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING.WHEN REPLACING BULBS FOUND SOCKETS BURNED TO BULB BASE AND WIRES TO SOCKETS BURNT. HAD TO REPLACE SECTION OF WIRES AND BREAK BULB BASE TO REMOVE. CONDITION CAN POSSIBLY CAUSE A FIRE IN ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. *TR
DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, I HIT THE BRAKES TO STOP FOR TRAFFIC LIGHT. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE "RUSTED" BRAKE LINE HAD CRACKED OPEN AND ALLOWED FLUID TO ESCAPE. NO BRAKES. HAD TO HAVE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY HOUSE. THIS HAPPENED TODAY,10/16/2010. IT IS A 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO P/U ALL OF THE STEEL LINES ARE RUSTED. *TR
SUDDEN BRAKING FAILURE ON 2003 CHEVY 2500HD. LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID DUE TO SUDDEN LOSS OF BRAKE LINE PRESSURE. BRAKE LINES FAILED WHILE DRIVING. *TR
CORRODED FRONT BRAKE LINES. ALSO FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS. *TR
COULD NOT REMOVE SPARE TIRE FROM VEHICLE. THE CABLE LOWERED THE TIRE UNTIL THE SECONDARY CATCH RESTRICTED THE LOWERING ANY FURTHER. FOLLOWED OWNERS MANUAL TO RESOLVE ISSUE, DID NOT WORK. CRANKED SPARE TIRE BACK TO MOUNTED POSITION. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, THEY HAD TO CUT THE CABLE AND UNBOLTED THE MECHANISM FROM THE VEHICLE. THE SECONDARY CATCH WAS ACCESSED AND RELEASED FROM THE SIDE. THE UNIT IS NO LONGER FUNCTIONAL AND A NEW UNIT IS WELL OVER $100. I NOW HAVE ACCESS TO THE SPARE BUT NOT THE FACTORY MOUNTING POSITION. GLAD I DON'T GET A FLAT TIRE ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR
CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 2003 76,000 MILES. BRAKES FAILED WHILE PULLING A 6000LB TRAILER ON AN INTERSTATE. RUSTY BRAKE LINES BURST WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED WHILE ENTERING A CONSTRUCTION ZONE. HAD NO BRAKES. IF CAR IN FRONT HADN'T SEEN ME COMING AND PULLED OVER, THIS MAY HAVE BEEN A FATALITY REPORT. *TR
REAR BRAKE LINE RUPTURE BEHIND FUEL TANK ON 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO WHILE NORMALLY DRIVEN. INSPECTED THE LINES FOR REPAIR AND FOUND SEVERE CORROSION OF ALL LINES AFT OF THE A.B.S. UNIT. HAVE REPLACED LINES WITH AFTERMARKET BENDABLE ONES AS PERFORMED ARE NOT AVAILABLE I AM TOLD. LARGE SECTIONS OF OLD LINE ARE IN MY POSSESSION. 60,000 MILES ON UNIT UNDERCARRIAGE CORROSION IS TERRIBLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET K2500HD SILVERADO. THE CONTACT WAS REVERSING 5 MPH FROM A RESIDENTIAL DRIVEWAY. AS THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES, THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM THE VEHICLE YET HE WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THE MECHANIC DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR AND FRONT BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO BRAKE LINE CORROSION AND FAILURE. *TR
CATASTROPHIC BRAKE LINE RUPTURE IN BOTH CIRCUITS OF THE REDUNDANT HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM. THE FAILURE OCCURRED IN A SHOPPING CENTER PARKING LOT. IF IT HAD OCCURRED 5 MILES EARLIER, THEIR WOULD HAVE BEEN A 7000 POUND MACHINE ROLLING ON I83 WITH NO BRAKES, PLACING UNWARY MOTORISTS AND THE DRIVER AT SIGNIFICANT RISK OF INJURY OR DEATH. AS YOU CONTINUE YOUR PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION, YOU SHOULD PONDER THE POSSIBLE CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE ASSOCIATED WITH THE FAILURE TO REPORT THIS LATENT DEFECT IN THE MANUFACTURE OF THESE BEHEMOTH MACHINES. AT THE VERY LEAST, EACH REGISTERED OWNER SHOULD BE NOTIFIED IMMEDIATELY OF THE POSSIBLE FATAL MALFUNCTION. IF IT SAVES ONE LIFE!!! IF IT CAUSES ONE DEATH??? MY 1990 JEEP CHEROKEE STILL HAS THE ORIGINAL BRAKE LINES AT 297000 MILES! THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN MANAGERS, ACCOUNTANTS AND LAWYERS TELL ENGINEERS TO SHUT UP. I HAVE A 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO 4X4 EXT. CAB 4.8L ENG. WHILE DRIVING THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING UNDERNEATH THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AND CORRODED ON THE OUTSIDE. I WILL BE REPLACING THEM. I HAVE ONLY 70,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE OWNED NUMEROUS VEHICLES AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EXPERIENCED RUSTED BRAKE LINES. ABOUT 5 MONTHS AGO I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM BUT ON A DIFFERENT BRAKE LINE ON THE REAR, THANK HEAVEN FOR SECONDARY BACKUP LINES. *TR
THE REAR BACKING PLATES ON MY 2003 SILVERADO COMPLETELY ROTTED AWAY AND EXPOSED THE BRAKES AND DISC ROTORS AND CALIPERS TO EXTREME DIRT AND WINTER SALT. THIS CAUSED ONE BRAKE CALIPER TO FREEZE AND BOTH DISC ROTORS TO GET VERY BADLY PITTED. I HAD TO REPLACE ALL THE COMPONENTS FOR BOTH REAR BRAKES AT A VERY EXPENSIVE COST. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SOMETHING LIKE THIS IN ALL THE YEARS OF OWNING A MOTOR VEHICLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 3-4 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED; THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE GEAR BOX NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO REFERRED HIM TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,190.
BRAKE LINE RUST-THROUGH CAUSING LONG STOPPING DISTANCES AND REQUIRING RAPID PEDAL PUMPING. LOSS OF FLUID REQUIRED REFILLS TO ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO BE DRIVEN TO A SHOP. NO COLLISION OCCURRED. CAB-BACK REPLACEMENT OF STEEL LINES TOOK PLACE AT A COST OF $475. *LN

STEEL BRAKE LINE RUSTED THROUGH ON MY 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO PU CAUSING COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. GOOD FORTUNE HAD IT THAT I WAS AT A LOW SPEED AND NO CRASH OCCURRED. TRUCK HAS BEEN GARAGED AND NEVER BEEN IN CONTACT WITH SEA WATER. NO OTHER SIGNIFICANT RUST EXISTS ON VEHICLE EXCEPT ON THE OTHER BRAKE LINES. RESEARCH SHOW THIS IS A COMMON AND SERIOUS PROBLEM ON THESE TRUCKS. *TR
2003 CHEVY SILVERADO EXTENDED CAB PICKUP. BRAKE LINE CORROSION. BRAKE LINE BURST. PENNSYLVANIA. BRAKE LINE BURST ON DRIVERS SIDE. BRAKE LINE BURST WHEN BRAKES APPLIED. LOSS OF BRAKING ABILITY WAS THE RESULT. INCIDENT OCCURRED ON RESIDENTIAL STREET- THANKFULLY THERE WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER TO RESOLVE PROBLEM. APPARENTLY THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE DEFECT OF CHEVROLET'S BRAKE-LINE ASSEMBLY FOR THE 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO. HAVE PROOF OF REPAIR. IS CHEVY GOING TO RECALL THE INFERIOR MATERIALS USED IN THESE BRAKE LINES? *LN

WITHIN A MINUTE OR TWO, MASTER CYLINDER COMPLETELY EMPTIED, AND NO BRAKES AT ALL. CURRENTLY AT PALLONE CHEVROLET IN SPRINGFIELD VA. AWAITING REPAIR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AT A RELATIVELY LOW SPEED WHEN THE BRAKE WAS DEPRESSED AND THE PEDAL ABNORMALLY WENT DOWN TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE SEVERELY RUSTED AND CORRODED. THERE WAS ONE BRAKE LINE THAT WAS RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH AND WAS REPLACED. THE OTHER THREE RUSTED BRAKE LINES WERE NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000.
TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE ON 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO WITH JUST UNDER 59,000 MILES. IT COASTED TO A STOP AND THEN I HAD IT TOWED TO THE CHEVY DEALER. IT HAS NOW BEEN THERE THREE TIMES IN A WEEK. BILL SAYS FRONT BRAKE PADS THIN, FRONT BRAKE ROTORS BADLY RUSTED, REPLACES FRONT BRAKE PADS AND BOTH FRONT BRAKE ROTORS. REAR BRAKE PADS THIN, REAR BRAKE ROTORS BADLY RUSTED, REPLACED REAR BRAKE PADS AND READ BRAKE ROTORS. I PICKED THE TRUCK UP AND WHEN I GOT HOME SMELLED SOMETHING VERY HOT. I COULD NOT TOUCH THE BACK TIRES AND TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER. PICKED IT UP AGAIN TODAY AND DROVE IT AND TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER WITH THE FRONT WHEELS HOT. THEY TELL ME THAT THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY WILL DO NEXT TO IT. *TR
VEHICLE REMAINS RUNNING BUT SHOWS POWER REDUCTION. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON. YOU HAVE TO PULL OVER, SHUT IT OFF, PRESS THE ARROW BUTTON ON THE STEERING WHEEL FOR A FEW SECOND AND RESTART. THIS HAPPENED ON I35 AT 70MPH 4 TIMES IN 40 MILES YESTERDAY. *TR
SPEEDOMETER. MAY GO TO 65 MPH SITTING STILL. WORKS PERIODICALLY AND THEN SUDDENLY WILL JUMPED TO 90 MPH. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE - ESPECIALLY WHEN HAULING GRANDCHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HAVE EMAILED GM THREE TIMES WITH ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSE OF ANY KIND. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE LINES AND CYLINDERS WERE CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 40,000.
2003 CHEVROLET CK2500, WESTBOUND WHEN THE LEFT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE FRONT FENDER. *BF (OHIO TRAFFIC CRASH REPORT # 10-0367-89) *JB
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO SLOW MY 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 TO ENTER AN OFF RAMP, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE BRAKES NO LONGER WORKED. I BARELY MISSED HITTING SOMEONE AND WAS ABLE TO USE THE PARKING BRAKE TO SLOW AND STOP THE TRUCK. LUCKILY, I WAS GOING UP AN INCLINE AND HAD ROOM TO PULL OFF THE MAIN ROAD. I HAD TO TOW THE TRUCK TO MY MECHANIC. UPON INITIAL INSPECTION, IT WAS DEEMED THAT THE BRAKE LINES CORRODED TO THE POINT THAT THEY BLEW OUT. IT WAS ALSO DETERMINED THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED. INCLUDING THE TOW, THE COST OF REPAIRS WAS OVER $1100. THE TRUCK BARELY HAD OVER 20,000 MILES AT THE TIME. I LIVE IN MARYLAND AND HAVE OWNED OTHER VEHICLES FOR MUCH LONGER AND WITH A LOT MORE MILES. THIS TYPE OF FAILURE COULD HAVE CERTAINLY RESULTED IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT WITH MULTIPLE INJURIES OR EVEN DEATHS. BRAKE LINE FAILED ON 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 HD WITH 25,000 MILES. TRUCK WAS SERVICED BY GM DEALER AT RECOMMENDED INTERVALS SINCE PURCHASE. AFTER DEALER CLOSED, TRUCK HAD BEEN SERVICED ONCE BY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED INDEPENDENT MECHANIC SPECIALIZING IN TRUCKS. LESS THAN 500 MILES AFTER THE LAST SERVICE, THE BRAKES FELT A LITTLE SPONGY; WE DROVE THE TRUCK A FEW MILES AND PARKED. AFTER AN HOUR, WE RETURNED TO THE TRUCK AND DISCOVERED A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID UNDER THE AXLE. WE DROVE TO THE NEAREST BRAKE REPAIR SHOP; DURING THIS 5 MINUTE DRIVE, THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN WE ARRIVED AT THE SHOP, THEY PUT THE TRUCK ON THE LIFT; BY THIS TIME, IT HAD NO BRAKE FLUID LEFT IN THE SYSTEM. THE ENTIRE LINE WAS CORRODED, AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TR

LOW COOLANT LEVEL WARNING LIGHT KEPT COMING ON. HAD DEALER CHECK IT OUT AND THEY FOUND THAT MY VEHICLE HAD DEFECTIVE HEADS BULLETIN # 06-06-01-0198. *TR

THE CONTACT MOVED OFF THE ROADWAY AND UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, HE FOUND THAT THE BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING. THE BRAKE LINES ALSO EXHIBITED RUST. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME BY USING THE TRAILER BRAKES. HE ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE HIMSELF BUT FOUND THERE WAS A SECOND BRAKE LINE FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE CONTACT NOTICE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE REGARDING BRAKE LINE RUST FOR HIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHERVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PARKING BRAKE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO HAVE THE LINING REPLACED ON THE VEHICLE. WHICH WAS IN ACCORDANCE TO NHTSA RECALL CAMPIGN ID NUMBER: 05V161000 (PARKING BRAKE), BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000 AND TH E CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,000.

I OWN A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500HD 4X4 QUAD CAB TRUCK. AFTER PICKING UP A CAMPER TRAILER AND RETURNING TO MY HOME I NOTICED A SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF BRAKE PRESSURE IN THE PEDAL. UPON ARRIVING HOME I NOTICED BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM A BRAKE LINE ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE TRUCK AT THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. THE 2 LINES THAT RUN FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE ABS UNIT AND THE 2 LINES THAT RUN FROM THE ABS UNIT TO THE LEFT FRONT AND RIGHT FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS WERE SEVERELY CORRODED (RUSTED). I CORRECTED THE PROBLEM MYSELF BY REPLACING ALL THE BRAKE LINES. MY TRUCK ONLY HAS 82,220 MILES ON IT AND THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT THAT CHEVROLET SHOULD BE HELD LIABLE FOR. IF A VEHICLE WOULD HAVE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME WHILE RETURNING TO MY HOUSE I WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STOP IN TIME. I UNDERSTAND BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS ARE ITEMS THAT ARE SUBJECTED TO NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR BUT BRAKE LINES SHOULD NEVER HAVE TO BE REPLACED UNLESS THEY ARE CHAFFING SOMEWHERE. *TR

THE SUBURBAN WOULD STALL WHILE WAITING IN DRIVE THRU LINES. SEVERAL TIMES. DIES WHILE IN GEAR, PUT IN PARK AND WOULD THEN START UP. DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS. I KNEW I HAD GOTTEN A BAD TANK OF GAS, 2 MONTHS EARLIER. SO WE TRIED FUEL INJECTIONS, ETC... THE SUBURBAN WOULD DIE AND WOULD BE TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER. THEY DECIDED I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE FUEL MODULE. $800 LATER AND IT WAS STILL HAPPENING. THE DEALER WAS DRIVING MY CAR MORE THAN I. PUTTING MILES ON THE CAR AND GMC DECIDED I HAD TOO MANY MILES ON THE VEHICLE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. NOW, IT DIES WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. ONE YEAR LATER AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS AND NO ONE HAS FIGURED IT OUT. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND MOSTLY DISSATISFIED THAT I SPENT 45K ON A VEHICLE AND THEN WHEN IT FAILS NO ONE KNOWS HOW TO FIX IT. THEY JUST WANT YOU TO BUY A NEW VEHICLE. *TR
