2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO - ABS ACTIVATION DURING LOW SPEED BREAKING THAT LED TO INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES, INTERMITTENT AT FIRST BUT OVER 3 TO 4 MONTHS INCREASED TO THE POINT THAT IT NEARLY RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED CHEVROLET DEALER FOR REPAIR, DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS SENSORS WERE CORRODED AND AFTER TESTING, FOUND THAT THE "LIFTING SENSOR CAUSING DIFFERENT WAVE LENGTHS AT SPEEDS BELOW 5MPH". THE REPAIR CONSISTED OF CLEANING THE RUST BUILD UP UNDER AND AROUND THE SENSORS AND REPLACEMENT OF BOTH SENSORS. THE REPAIR COST $430.00. TOLD BY THE SERVICE ADVISOR THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THIS MODEL AND YEAR AND ADVISED TO FILE A CLAIM WITH GM FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF COST AS THIS REPAIR WAS NOT AS A RESULT OF ACCIDENT OR NEGLIGENCE ON THE PART OF THE OWNER. THIS REPAIR IS SIMILAR TO THE REMEDY MANDATED FOR THE EXACT SAME CONDITION UNDER RECALL NOTICE 05V379000 FOR CHEVROLET SILVERADOS, MODEL YEARS 1999-2002. THE CLAIM FOR REIMBURSEMENT FILED WITH GM/CHEVROLET WAS SUMMARILY REJECTED WITH THE STATED REASON THAT THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY PERIOD. EVEN WHEN APPRISED THAT THERE IS A RECALL IN PLACE FOR THE SAME CONDITION ON VEHICLES ONE MODEL YEAR OLDER, CHEVROLET REFUSED TO NEGOTIATE THIS CLAIM. I THEN FILED A CLAIM WITH THE BBB AS RECOMMENDED IN MY VEHICLE'S OWNERS MANUAL AND THOUGH HELPFUL COULD NOT ASSIST STATING THAT VEHICLE IS OUT OF MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY PERIOD. LOOKING FOR HELP IN RECOUPING REPAIR COST FOR DAMAGE THAT WAS AS A RESULT OF FLAWED DESIGN FROM A CORPORATION THAT REFUSES TO LISTEN TO CONSUMERS COMPLAINTS AND INSTEAD THROWS UP A FIREWALL TO DENY CLAIMS IN THE HOPES OF DISHEARTENING THE CLAIMANT UNTIL THEY GIVE UP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRYING TO STOP FOR A STOP LIGHT THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE BRAKE LINES IN THE REAR WERE REPLACED. THE REMEDY WAS SUCCESSFUL UNTIL 8/9/2010, WHEN THE FRONT BRAKES FAILED AGAIN UNDER SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCES. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED BY REPLACING THE FRONT BRAKE LINES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, I HEAR A CHIME FROM THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, THEN NOTICE THAT THE VEHICLE CAN NO LONGER ACCELERATE. I ALSO NOTICE THAT THE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, AND THERE IS A MESSAGE DISPLAYED STATING THE VEHICLE IS IN "LOW ENGINE POWER MODE". AT THIS POINT, THE VEHICLE CAN STILL BE DRIVEN BUT AT VERY LOW SPEED ONLY. ANY POWER FOR MANEUVERABILITY UNDER HEAVY TRAFFIC OR HIGHWAY CONDITIONS IS GONE. AFTER PULLING OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE, THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON BUT THE ENGINE POWER MAY HAVE RETURNED TO NORMAL (FOR A WHILE). THE FOLLOWING DAY OR SO - THE ENGINE LIGHT MAY EVEN STAY OFF, AND EVERYTHING APPEARS NORMAL. WHEN THE PROBLEM IS FIRST NOTICED, IT SEEMS TO RECUR EVERY FEW DAYS. AS TIME GOES ON HOWEVER (MAYBE 2 WEEKS) THE PROBLEM HAPPENS MORE FREQUENTLY AND IS LESS APT TO "RESET" JUST BY TURNING OFF THE ENGINE. THE FIRST TIME I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER, THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE CONTROL SENSOR CONNECTOR, FOR A TOTAL BILL OF ABOUT $350. NOW, AFTER ONLY 10 MONTH, THE PROBLEM HAS RECURRED. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER YESTERDAY, AFTER ONLY TWO OF THESE "EVENTS" WITHIN ONE WEEK, AND WAS CHARGED ANOTHER $535 TO HAVE THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED ("FAULTY SENSORS WITHIN THE BODY"). LAST NIGHT THE PROBLEM CAME BACK AGAIN (YES - SAME DAY!). TODAY THE DEALER ADDED A "REDUNDANT" GROUND TO THE THROTTLE BODY (NO CHARGE THIS TIME). I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS SHOWN UP ON MANY VEHICLES LIKE MINE, AND THAT GM SEEMS TO BE AT A LOSS AS TO WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THIS IS AN ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL (NO DIRECT LINKAGE BETWEEN GAS PEDAL AND CARBURETOR). I AM THANKFUL THAT GM DESIGNED THIS TO FAIL WITH POWER LOSS RATHER THAN FULL POWER (TOYOTA), BUT I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN NONE THE LESS. GM IS OBVIOUSLY AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT IS DOING NOTHING TO REPAIR AN OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAW IN THEIR PRODUCT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE TRAVELED OVER AN UNEVEN ROAD SURFACE AND THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER MODE WARNING MESSAGE APPEARED. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ALSO ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FUEL PEDAL ACTUATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE PEDAL WAS REPLACED BUT TO NO AVAIL, AND THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO K1500. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH ELECTRONIC DASH *TGW THE SPEEDOMETER HAS BEEN INCONSISTENTLY WORKING SINCE JULY 2010. THE GAUGE WOULD BE FINE AT FIRST, WHEN SUDDENLY IT WOULD REGISTER SPEEDS THAT WERE NOT CORRECT AND THE NEEDLE WAS SLOW TO RESPOND TO ANY CHANGE IN SPEED AND IT WOULD NOT DROP TO ZERO WHEN THE CONSUMER CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. IT WOULD USUALLY CORRECT ITSELF OVERNIGHT, BUT NOT ALWAYS AND IT WOULD REMAIN NORMAL UNTIL THE NEXT INTERMITTENT EPISODE. ALSO, THERE WAS AN INTERMITTENT CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE DASH. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE DOORS WOULD LOCK AND UNLOCK ON THEIR OWN WHILE STOPPED AND WHILE DRIVING. THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT BRIEFLY, ALL OF THE DASH DISPLAYS AND SIDE DOOR LIGHT PANELS WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. THE POWER HEATED SEATS WOULD JERK AND MAKE NOISES. *JB
RUSTY BRAKE LINES, ALL SYSTEM BRAKE LINES AND BRAKE PARTS ARE RUSTING TO THE POINT OF FAILURE. TWO LINES FAILED. ALL SYSTEM PARTS ARE BEING REPLACED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HEAVY DUTY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ENTERING A HIGHWAY AT UNKNOWN SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN THE AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHTS WERE OPERATING, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. HOWEVER WHEN THEY WERE OFF, THERE WERE NO ISSUES WITH ACCELERATION. WHEN THE HIGH BEAM LIGHTS WERE ON, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, REACTIVATE THE LIGHTS, RESTART THE ENGINE, AND THEN THE VEHICLE WOULD RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. THE DEALER ADVISED HAVING DIAGNOSTIC TESTING PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY DIAGNOSED HOWEVER, THERE WERE NO REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT COULD NOT CONFIRM THE RESULTS OF THE PREVIOUS DIAGNOSTIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000 AND THE CURRENT WAS UNKNOWN.
RUSTED OUT BRAKE LINES FAILED FUEL LINES AND POWER STEERING LOOK BAD ALSO. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 5 MPH AND ENTERING A GARAGE WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND. THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED WITH RUST. THE CONTACT OWNED A REPAIR SHOP AND REPLACED THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKE LINES THAT LED TO THE PROPORTIONING VALVES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF FAILURE. I HAVE AN 03 CHEVY SILVERADO. MY SPEEDOMETER WORKS INTERMITTENTLY IF AT ALL. WHEN IT DOES WORK IT IS USUALLY OFF BY A GOOD BIT (HIGH AND LOW). IT HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND IS A ONE OWNER. I GOOGLED "SILVERADO SPEEDOMETER BAD" AND FOUND HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AS MINE. IT IS A REGULARLY OCCURRING PROBLEM FOR ME AND MANY OTHERS AS WELL. DEALER SAYS IT IS A $500 REPAIR. I NOW RELY ON MY GPS WHICH HAS A SPEEDOMETER FEATURE ON IT. *TR
THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING THAT MY BRAKES WERE GOING TO FAIL! I HAD MY TWO CHILDREN WITH ME AND WAS APPROACHING AN INSECTION. I WENT TO APPLY MY BRAKES AND NOTHING HAPPENED. I WAS UNABLE TO STOP. LUCKILY, I COASTED THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AND WAS NOT INVOLVED IN A COLLISION. I TRIED TO STOP THE TRUCK BY PUTTING IT INTO PARK, WHICH WAS A MISTAKE, THIS DID NOT STOP THE TRUCK SO I IMMEDIATELY PUT THE TRUCK BACK IN DRIVE. I THEN STEPPED ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WHICH STOPPED THE TRUCK. AT THIS TIME, I WAS STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD SO I DECIDED TO RELEASE THE BRAKE AND COAST OVER TO A SAFE LOCATION TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF MY CHILDREN. AS THE TRUCK STAYED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, I AGAIN PUSHED THE BRAKE PEDDLE TO DISCOVER BRAKE FLUID SHOOTING OUT FROM TRUCK. WHEN THE TRUCKWAS LIFTED ONTO THE TOW TRUCK I WAS ABLE TO SEE THE BRAKE LINE HAD A LARGE HOLE, AS IF IT HAD BEEN BLOWN OUT. THIS WAS THEN CONFIRMED BY MY MECHANIC. ALL THE BRAKE LINES NEED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL EXTREMELY RUSTED AND I RUN THE RISK OF ANOTHER BRAKE FAILURE. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THEY HAVE TOLD ME THIS WILL BE MY OWN EXPENSE. THE TRUCK IS ONLY 7 YEARS OLD. *TR
ABS BRAKE SYSTEM ENGAGES AT SLOW SPEEDS ON DRY SURFACES CAUSING EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. THIS PROBLEM AND THE FIX IS THE SAME AS DESCRIBED IN THE NHTSA DEFECT RECALL OF 05V379000. MY CHEVROLET SILVERADO IS A 2003 SO OUTSIDE THE RECALL AND DEALER REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY ALSO HAVE REPLACED THE REAR ROTORS WITH WORST RUST I HAVE EVER SEEN ON ROTOR. NEARLY FALLING APART. *TR
BRAKES HAVE BEEN SPONGY FROM THE TIME I PURCHASED AND WAS TOLD THIS IS NORMAL. I HAVE REPLACED BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS FRONT AND REAR ABOUT 3 TIMES SINCE BUYING TRUCK. TRUCK HAS ALWAYS HAS SLOW RESPONSE TIME TO STOP AGAIN TOLD THIS IS NORMAL. TRUCK HAS ABOUT 65,000 MILES AND UNDERSIDE LOOKS LIKE A RUST BUCKET. THE PROBLEM I AM HAVING NOW IS ABS LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF,PULSATING BRAKE PETAL AND ABS DOES NOT WORK PLUS THERE IS A LONGER STOPPING DISTANCE .TOLD ABS SENSORS ARE BAD AND NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF ABOUT $800 - $1000 DOLLARS AGAIN NORMAL?. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR THE CONSUMER AND GENERAL MOTORS SAY THEY DON'T HAVE ENOUGH COMPLAINTS TO WARRANT A RECALL. HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE OR BE INJURED BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE. IT IS TIME FOR THESE CAR MANUFACTURES TO BE ACCOUNTABLE AND MAKE THESE VEHICLES SAFE. *TR
GM PASSLOCK THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM IS LEAVING THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE STRANDED . THIS PROBLEM IS WIDESPREAD AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. *TR
AFTER A 3 MILE RIDE, BACKING UP TRUCK NOTICED SMOKE THEN FLAMES COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. FIRE MELTED ALL ELECTICAL LINES, DESTROYED HOOD AND WINDSHIELD. WEATHER WAS PERFECT, AIR CONDITIONING MAY HAVE BEEN ON. *TR
SPEEDOMETER IS NOT WORKING AT ALL, WILL NOT REGISTER WHICH IS CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO SLIP. IT IS CONSTANT, AND WE CANNOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE WE HAD TO TAKE VEHICLE TO HAVE IT REPAIRED, IT COST $492.50. GMC/CHEVY IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED AND IF YOUR VEHICLE IS 7 YEARS NEW OR HAS LESS THAN 80,000 MILES IT IS BEING FIXED FOR FREE. MY VEHICLE IS ONLY 7 YEARS OLD BUT HAS 100,000. I ALSO OWN A 2004 GMC ENVOY WHICH APPEARED TO BE RUNNING OKAY AND THEN ON THE WAY HOME FROM GETTING THE CHEVY FIXED NOW THE SPEEDOMETER ON THE ENVOY IS NOT WORKING. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO CALL GMC CUSTOMER SERVICE AND I AM JUST GETTING THE RUN AROUND. I SPOKE TO JOHN AT JBA CHEVROLET (HE IS THE MECHANIC - 410-766-6305) HE SAID THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM. *TR

CORRECTION 03 1500HD SILVERADO 64,000 MILES, LEFT REAR METAL BRAKE LINE FAILURE AND ALL 4 METAL BRAKE LINES SEVERELY RUSTED. I HAVE A 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO WITH APPROXIMATELY 25,000 MILES THAT THE BRAKE LINES HAVE RUSTED PREMATURELY AND THE DEALER IS RECOMMENDING REPLACEMENT. PRIOR TO THIS I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS BRAKE ISSUES AND EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCES, ROTORS WERE ALSO PREVIOUSLY REPLACED DUE TO SEVER RUST AND SPAWLING. *TR
I HAVE A 2003 CHEVY 1500HD CREW CAB. ON 5-21-2010 I FOUND THAT MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WHEN I GOT IN TO BACK DOWN A BOAT RAMP TO LOAD MY BOAT. I FOUND THAT TWO METAL BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED INTO. THE RUST WAS UNDER A PLASTIC CLAMP THAT HELD THE BRAKE LINES IN PLACE. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THIS IS COMMON ON THIS TRUCK MODEL. *TR
2003 SILVERADO 2500HD. THE ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATES AT LOW SPEED ON DRY PAVEMENT DURING A NORMAL STOPS WHICH CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO TRAVEL FARTHER THAN EXPECTED AND REQUIRES EXTRA PEDAL PRESSURE TO COMPLETE THE STOP. I'VE HAD IT CHECKED AND IT IS IN THE LEFT FRONT AND ACTIVES AT 3 MPH. IT GIVES NO LIGHTS OR CODES. THE RECALL GOES UP TO 2002 (RECALL 05V379000) BUT DOESN'T INCLUDE THE 2003. THE DESCRIPTION SAYS IT ALL, BUT I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY I CAN'T BE UNDER THIS RECALL WHEN I HAVE THE SAME SYMPTOMS. I EVEN LIVE IN THAT REGION. *TR
TL - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE REVERSING, THE BRAKE PEDAL ABNORMALLY TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN DEPRESSED. ON A SECOND OCCASION, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL ABNORMALLY TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN DEPRESSED AND AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A TREE. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AND CORRODED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000. PM
WE HAVE HAD A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF RUST TO THE ENTIRE UNDERSIDE, TRAILER HITCH, AND BOTH BUMPERS ON THIS TRUCK. TO PREVENT IT FROM RUSTING AWAY, WE HAD TO HAVE THE CAB AND BED UNDERCOATED. WE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE GAS LINES, AS THEY WERE ROTTED OUT, WHICH POSED POTENTIAL GAS LOSS AND SAFETY ISSUES. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PAD ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WORSE OUT PREMATURELY. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE TURNED AND THE BRAKE PADS NEEDED TO BE CHANGED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 27,000. UPDATED 7/16/10 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED TURNING THE ROTORS AND REPLACING THE PADS WILL NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. WORN OUT PADS AND ROTORS ARE SYMPTOMS OF ANOTHER PROBLEM. THE CALIPERS WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THE METAL BRAKE LINES AND OTHER SIMILAR METAL LINES SUCH AS THE TRANSMISSION COOLER LINES ALL SHOWED EXTREME RUST ON THE OUTSIDE. UPDATED 07/22/10*JB
WE HAVE HAD TO DO EXTENSIVE WORK TO MAINTAIN THE BRAKES IN OUR CHEVY SILVERADO IN SAFE WORKING CONDITION. THEY FAILED SUDDENLY, TWICE, MAKING THE BRAKE PEDAL GO ALL THE WAY TO THE GROUND. COSTS FOR REPAIRS WERE SIGNIFICANT, BUT THANKFULLY NO INJURIES. *TR

IN-DASH GEAR SELECTOR LIGHT IS INOPERABLE. LIGHT STOPPED BURNING FOR NO REASON AND DURING THE DAY TIME CAN NOT SEE WHAT GEAR THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN. THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT VEHICLE COULD NOT BE IN PARK AND COULD ROLL AWAY FROM VEHICLE OPERATOR WHEN IT WAS THOUGHT TO BE IN A PARKED POSITION. TO FIX THE LIGHT ONE LARGE PART THAT COVERS MULTIPLE DASH COMPONENTS IS REPLACED NOT JUST A SINGLE COMPONENT AND THIS PART COSTS HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS EVEN IF OTHER COMPONENTS ARE WORKING FINE. THIS COMPONENT ALSO HAS TO BE INSTALLED BY A DEALERSHIP SINCE IT COVERS THE ODOMETER. *TR
THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER SUDDENLY WENT ON OUR 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO. GMC SUPPOSEDLY OFFERED A VOLUNTARY WARRANTY EXTENSION, BUT TOLD CUSTOMERS NOT TO TAKE TRUCK TO DEALERS UNLESS THE ISSUE WAS PRESENT. WE HAVE 86,800 MILES ON THE TRUCK. THE ODOMETER AND BATTERY GAUGE ARE BROKEN. IT NOW SAYS WE ARE GOING 20MPH WHEN WE ARE PARKED! GMC MADE US PAY $45 FOR DIAGNOSTIC AND REPAIR WILL COST $415. GMC DENIES COVERAGE FOR THIS ISSUE, BASED ON THEIR POLICY REGARDING MILES. WE DO NOT THINK TRUCK WILL PASS INSPECTION UNLESS WE GET REPAIRS DONE , AND WE ALSO THINK NOT KNOWING SPEED YOU ARE DRIVING OR THE STATUS OF YOUR BATTERY COULD POSE POTENTIAL SAFETY RISKS. WIPER MOTOR, WHENEVER I USE THE WIPERS, WIPER ARM STICKS AND WONT RETURN TO NORMAL POSITION, AND SOMETIMES GOES ALL THE TO THE LEFT AND HANGS UP ON SIDE OF TRUCK, CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO PUSH THE ARM BACK ONTO WINDSHIELD AND THEN PUSH IT DOWN TO ITS HOME POSITION. 3. BRAKE LINE FAILURE IN A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO WITH APPROXIMATELY 24,000 MILES. REAR BRAKE LINE CORROSION LED TO LEAK AND FAILURE OF REAR BRAKES. HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO THE SHOP, WHERE HEAVY CORROSION WAS FOUND ON ALL THREE OTHER BRAKE LINES. ALL HAD TO BE REPLACED WITH SPECIALLY MANUFACTURED STAINLESS STEEL LINES BECAUSE GM DOESN'T MANUFACTURE THEM. PREVIOUSLY HAD TROUBLE WITH THE ABS SYSTEM. BOTH SPEED SENSORS WERE FAULTY; HAD TO BE DISASSEMBLED AND REPLACED. *TR
I HAVE A 2003 SILVERADO THAT HAS BEEN HAVING ROUGH IDLING ISSUES. THE TRUCK DOESN'T IDLE ROUGH EVERYDAY,BUT WHEN IT DOES THE VOLTAGE FLUXUATES BETWEEN 10-14 VOLTS. BEFORE THIS STARTED HAPPENING IT STAYED AT A STEADY 14 VOLTS. NOW THE VOLTAGE IS DROPPING AND THE RPM'S ARE DROPPING TO AROUND 200-300 RPMS THEN SOME TIMES IT WILL DIE IN MOTION. I HAVE REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR AND HAD THE BATTERY TESTED THEY ARE GOOD. THERE WAS LOW FUEL PRESSURE SO I REPLACED THE PUMP,STILL NOTHING IS HELPING. I FOUND A INTERNET SITE (WWW.TOPIX.COM) THERE IS 15 PAGES OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. NOBODY CAN FIND A DEFINITE PROBLEM. THERE IS PEOPLE SPENDING THOUSANDS ON THEIR VEHICLE TO FIX IT AND THE PARTS DON'T ALWAYS HELP. I HAVE NO WARNING LIGHTS COMING ON,SO I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE TO START ANYMORE. I'M BROKE. I CONTACTED CHEVY CONCERNING MY FAILED INSTRUMENT PANEL AND WHY IT WASN'T UNDER A SAFETY RECALL AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS UNDER A COURTESY WARRANTY RECALL UP TO 7 YRS OR 80,000 MILES, WHICH I HAVE SUCCEEDED WHEN I COULD AFFORD TO GET IT FIXED. CHEVY SAID THAT IT WASN'T UNDER A TOTAL RECALL BECAUSE A SPEEDOMETER NOT WORKING IS NOT A FEDERAL SAFETY ISSUE THAT IS REQUIRED FOR A RECALL. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN UNDER A RECALL BECAUSE OF SO MANY THAT HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED. PLEASE ADVISE. *TR

ON 4-6-10, THE BRAKES OF MY 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO PICK-UP TRUCK WITH 55,031 MILES FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE TRUCK WAS STOPPED AT THE TIME WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED. THE TRUCK WAS IN DRIVE GEAR. THE BRAKE PEDAL SUDDENLY WENT TO THE FLOORBOARD AND BRAKING ABILITY WAS GONE. THE TRUCK BEGAN TO ROLL, BUT DID STOP ON THE LEVEL TERRAIN. NO INJURIES RESULTED. ON 4-7-10, THE REPAIRING MECHANIC REPORTED ALL BRAKE LINES WERE EXCESSIVELY CORRODED AND RUSTED, AND ONE OF THE LINES HAD BROKEN OPEN. ALL LINES WERE REPLACED. I WILL ATTEMPT TO RETRIEVE THE REPLACED BRAKE LINES FROM THE REPAIR GARAGE FOR YOUR USE. PLEASE ADVISE ME ACCORDINGLY. MY REPAIR BILL WAS $475.00, PAID ON 4-8-10, BY PERSONAL CHECK. RIGHT SIDE WHEEL BEARING ASSEMBLY TOTALLY SHOT WITH LESS THAN 57,000 MILES ON TRUCK. *TR
WHILE STOPPING AT A STOPLIGHT A MILE FROM MY HOME, I NOTICED THE BRAKES SEEMED SOFT ON MY 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500HD DIESEL WITH 95,000 MILES. AFTER COMING TO A STOP I PUMPED THE BRAKES AND FELT AND HEARD THE BRAKE LINE BURST AS THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE BRAKES WERE COMPLETELY GONE. USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE I WAS ABLE TO TURN AROUND AND MAKE IT BACK TO MY HOME WHERE I PARKED THE TRUCK AND IT HASN'T MOVED SINCE. I CRAWLED UNDER THE TRUCK AND DISCOVERED THAT THE RUSTY BRAKE LINE GOING FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE ABS UNIT JUST BELOW THE DIVERS SIDE DOOR, HAD BUST OPEN AND FAILED. THE OTHER BRAKE LINES ALSO APPEAR VERY HEAVILY RUSTED, AND AFTER THIS EXPERIENCE I WOULD NOT DRIVE THE TRUCK AGAIN UNTIL THEY ARE ALL REPLACED. IN ALL MY YEARS OF LIVING IN NEW ENGLAND AND OWNING SEVERAL GM VEHICLES, I HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE LINES DUE TO RUST OR CORROSION. I FEEL VERY LUCKY NOT TO HAVE BEEN MOVING WHEN THAT PARTICULAR LINE BURST. I WOULD HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO STOP AS IT CAUSED A IMMEDIATE AND COMPLETE FAILURE TO THE BRAKING SYSTEM. IT SEEMS CLEAR TO ME THAT A HIGHER QUALITY BRAKE LINE SHOULD BE USED TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING. *TR

2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO BRAKES. THE ABS KICK IN AT LOW SPEEDS ON DRY ROADS. A VERY SOFT PEDAL AND SOMETIMES THE PEDAL WILL GO TO THE FLOOR BEFORE STOPPING. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIR COSTS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 22,000. SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON INTERMITTENTLY. VEHICLE TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE A WIRING HARNESS WAS REPLACED. SUBSEQUENT, THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD-ON CRASH SEVERE ENOUGH TO TOTAL THE VEHICLE. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE (SAME MODEL) WAS PURCHASED, IT TOO HAS A "SERVICE AIRBAG" LIGHT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE TRUCK DOWN THE STREET, I ATTEMPTED TO STOP FOR A RED LIGHT, AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. IN ORDER TO CORRECT THE FAILURE, I HAD TO REPLACE ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES, FRONT AND REAR, BECAUSE THEY WERE CORRODED AND POSED A SAFETY THREAT. THE TOTAL FOR THE REPAIRS WAS $1810.50. *TR
