WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED AT TEMPERATURES <32 DEGREES AND PAVEMENT IS WET OR SNOWCOVERED, ICE BUILD-UP STOPS THE BRAKES FROM WORKING. I HAVE HAD TOO MANY CLOSE CALLS GOING THROUGH RED LIGHTS OR ALMOST REAR-ENDING OTHER VEHICLES. *TR
MY 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO Z71 1500 PICK-UP EXPERIENCES POWER STEERING FAILURE WHEN GOING A VERY SLOW SPEEDS (I.E. TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT) ON RIGHT TURNS ONLY. CHEVY DEALERS HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM...SOME HAVE SAID THAT IF I CHANGE THE STEERING BOX FROM A 670 TO 680 MODEL IT WOULD HELP BUT NOT ELIMINATE???? HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR THE LAST 40,000 MILES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. HE STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WOULD FAIL INTERMITTENTLY. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 70 MPH, HE WAS RECEIVED A WARNING FROM A LOCAL POLICE OFFICER. THE OFFICER ADVISED HIM THAT HE WAS ACTUALLY TRAVELING 90 MPH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,500 AND THE CURRENT WAS 83,500.
TL*-THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE AIR BAG MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT INDICATOR CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 103,340. UPDATED 11/16/10. *LJ
TRUCK LOST ABILITY TO STOP EFFECTIVELY. TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO LOCAL REPAIR SHOP, WHERE MECHANIC FOUND BRAKE LINES HAD RUPTURED FROM CORROSION. BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED. *TR
I HAD A BRAKE LINE FAIL ON MY 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500HD CREW CAB 4X4. THE LINE FAILED ABOVE THE GAS TANK. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT AS I NOTICED THE PEDAL SOFTENING AND FLUID LEAKING. THE LINE CORRODED AND LEAKED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING AT 5 MPH IN A PARKING LOT, WITH HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ACTIVATED, INCREASING THE STOPPING DISTANCE. THE FAILURE OCCURS EVERY TIME THE BRAKES ARE ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, NO REPAIRS HAD BEEN MADE AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52154.
CHEVY SILVERADO 5.3 L ENGINE. REDUCED ENGINE POWER MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED. VEHICLE WILL NOT RUN ABOVE 20 MPH. MUST PULL OVER AND TURN OFF ENGINE AND RESTART. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM BY GM. DEALER TRIED TWICE TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM BUT COULD NOT. I REPLACED THE ACCELERATOR SENSOR AND THE THROTTLE BODY BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN IT HAPPENS ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON WITH MY TRUCK FOR ABOUT 18 MONTHS. AGAIN, NO SUPPORT FROM GM. MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. *TR
DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND SLOWED FOR AN UPCOMING RED LIGHT AND LOST BRAKES. FORTUNATELY THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND NOBODY WAS IN FRONT OF ME. MY BRAKED LINE CORRODED BY MY DRIVER FRONT TIRE. CONTACTED CHEVROLET AND HAD ANOTHER MECHANIC COMPANY REPLACE THE LINE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING HOME AROUND 10 PM WITH SMALL CHILDREN; MY TRUCK STARTED TO SURGE, BECAME DIFFICULT TO CONTROL, AND THE GAUGES DID NOT REGISTER ANYTHING ( ALL AT 0). THIS ROAD WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE AND OUTSIDE A BAD AREA, SO I CALLED MY HUSBAND TO COME FOLLOW ME HOME AND I DROVE HOME SLOWLY ALL THE WHILE ENDURING A CHUGGING MOTION. WHAT IS NORMALLY A 20 MINUTE TRIP BECAME AN HOUR AND A HALF TRIP. WHEN I GOT HOME AND SHUT THE TRUCK OFF MY HUSBAND LOOKED AT IT THINKING THAT THE FUEL INJECTORS COULD BE THE PROBLEM SINCE THEY HAD JUST BEEN RECALLED AND REPLACED. THE TRUCK WOULD NOT START WHEN HE WENT TO RESTART IT AND THE DASH SAID 'UNKNOWN DRIVER". THROUGH SOME RESEARCH WE DISCOVERED IT IS A FAULTY PASSLOCK SYSTEM. WE WENT THROUGH THE RECOMMENDATIONS AND IT WAS FIXED. THIS OCCURRED AGAIN TODAY AUGUST 18, 2011 WHILE DRIVING AND I NOW CAN NOT START MY VEHICLE OR HAVE IT TOWED BECAUSE IT CAN NOT BE PUT ON A TRUCK BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS LOCKED UP TIGHT AND CAN NOT BE UNLOCKED. WE CHANGED THE BATTERIES IN THE KEY FOBS TO NO AVAIL. THE WINDOWS ARE STUCK OPEN AND IT IS RAINY SEASON HERE. THEY LIGHTS COME ON AND THE INFORMATION CENTER KEEPS SAYS 'UNKNOWN DRIVER." I AM NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE MY TRUCK FOR FEAR THAT THE NEXT TIME I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CONTROL IT. I HAVE AN 18 YEAR OLD THAT DRIVES MY TRUCK TO COLLEGE AND I LIVE IN GREAT FEAR THAT HE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE IF IT DOES THE SAME THING WHILE DRIVING IT. *TR
THE CABLE MECHANISM THAT IS FASTENED TO THE FRAME OF THE UNDERSIDE OF MY PICK-UP TRUCK ALONG WITH THE SPARE TIRE FELL FROM MY TRUCK ONTO THE HIGHWAY. THIS MECHANISM IS WHAT HOLDS SPARE TIRE UNDER MY TRUCK BED AND HAS A WINCH WITH CABLE THAT RAISES AND LOWERS THE TIRE. THE MECHANISM SLIDES UNDER STEEL SUPPORT ON SIDE AND IS SECURED WITH A BOLT ON OTHER SIDE. THE STEEL BASE AROUND THE BOLT CRACKED AND BROKE LOOSE. FORTUNATELY I LOST MY SPARE TIRE DURING DAYTIME CONDITIONS AND ON LIGHTLY TRAVELED ROAD OR A VEHICLE BEHIND ME COULD SUSTAINED DAMAGED AND PASSENGERS COULD BE HURT. MY TRUCK IS A CHEVROLET 2003 SILVERADO 1500 2WD WORK TRUCK MODEL. I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK NEW AND HAVE HAD FEW PROBLEMS WITH IT. I HAVE JUST OVER 80,000 ACTUAL MILE ON THE ODOMETER OF MY TRUCK.*CW
SPEEDOMETER ON CHEVY 1500 SILVERADO 2003 ERRATIC AT TIMES. DEALERS AT FIRST DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE A RECALL, AND NOW STATE I AM OUT OF POLICY ALLOWANCE. NEVER RECEIVED NOTICE OF RECALL, ONLY HEARD IN NEWS. PROBLEM HAS BECOME MUCH WORSE IN PAST 2 MONTHS, I FIRST REPORTED TO DEALER AT 70K IN JAN 2010. *TR
UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WITH MY 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500HD 6.0L GAS ENGINE. *TR
SPEEDOMETER STARTED WORKING SPORADICALLY. SOMETIMES STICKS BELOW 0, SOMETIMES MOVES SPORADICALLY AND DOES NOT INDICATE CORRECT SPEED. INTERNET SEARCH SHOWS THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. GM IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND HAS ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN, BUT IS IT ONLY VALID FOR VEHICLES UNDER 80K MILES. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD IN THAT THE DRIVER DOES NOT ACCURATELY KNOW THE VEHICLE SPEED AND DOES NOT KNOW IF HE/SHE IS TRAVELING AT A SAFE SPEED. WHEN THE SPEEDOMETER READS LOWER THAN THE ACTUAL SPEED (IT MAY READ 5 OR 10 MPH BELOW THE ACTUAL SPEED, OR MAY BE MUCH LOWER, AS THE INDICATED SPEED IS UNRELIABLE), THE DRIVER MAY BE GOING FASTER THAN HE/SHE REALIZES INTO A CURVE OR TURN, WHICH MIGHT LEAD TO A CRASH, POSSIBLY INJURY OR DEATH. CHEVROLET ADVERTISES THAT THEY BUILD THE LONGEST LASTING TRUCKS. ISN'T IT REASONABLE TO EXPECT SOMETHING AS BASIC AS A SPEEDOMETER TO WORK PROPERLY FOR MORE THAN 80K MILES? DEALER SAID A NEW INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IS NEEDED TO REPAIR THIS DEFECT. SINCE THE VEHICLE IS BEYOND 80K MILES, THIS WOULD COST THE OWNER APPROXIMATELY $500. *TR
SPEEDO FAILED. NEEDLE STUCK AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. CONTACTED GM. NOT HELPFUL AT ALL. GUESS SOMEBODY HAS TO DIE BEFORE THEY WILL TAKE ANY ACTION. *TR
2003 CHEVY SILVERADO BRAKE LINES HAD TO BE REPLACED. 4 LINES BROKE DUE TO CORROSION. I TOTAL LOST ALL BRAKES LUCKY NO DAMAGE OR INJURIES HAPPEN. HAD OVER $1200 IN REPAIR BILLS IN ORDER TO DRIVE THE TRUCK AGAIN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS FAILED AND HE IS UNABLE TO READ ANY GAUGES ON THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT SINCE HIS WARRANTY IS NOT VALID HE HAS TO PAY $400 TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED AND A CLAIM WAS FILED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 174,000.
2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO SPEEDOMETER IS SHOWING I'M TRAVELING AT 70 MPH WHEN ACTUALLY DOING ABOUT 10 MPH, AND AT OTHER TIMES SHOWS I'M TRAVELING 30 MPH WHEN ACTUALLY GOING SIGNIFICANTLY FASTER. THIS IS CAUSING A SAFETY ISSUE, AND IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A SYSTEMIC ISSUE WITH CHEVROLET. *TR
SPEEDOMETER FAILURE AT 92,000 MILES. SPEEDOMETER SWINGS OVER ACTUAL SPEED. THIS IS A PROBLEM ON SEVERAL CHEVROLET MODELS TAHOES AND PICKUPS. I HAVE A NEIGHBOR AND HIS WENT OUT AT 82, 000 MILES. *TR
APPLIED BRAKES HARD TO MISS A STRAY DOG THAT RAN OUT IN THE ROAD AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. NOTICED FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM UNDER THE TRUCK AND FOUND THAT METAL BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED THROUGH AND LEAKING BRAKE FLUID. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF REPLACING ALL 4 OF THE LINES MYSELF AND THIS IS PROVING TO BE A MAJOR UNDERTAKING. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 34,00 MILES. I DO THE GENERAL MAINTENANCE MYSELF. I WENT TO A CHEVY DEALERSHIP TO PURCHASE THE FORMED LINES AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY DID NOT SELL THE INDVIDUAL LINES AND I WOULD HAVE TO MAKE THEM FROM A 16 FT. ROLL OF METAL LINES. THEY HAD NOT HEARD OF A PROBLEM OR RECALL. *TR
RECENTLY I WENT TO START UP MY 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. THINKING IT WAS AIR IN THE BREAK LINE I PUMPED THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL CONTINUED TO GO STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. I REALIZED THAT AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE BREAK FLUID WAS LEAKING NEAR THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL. ULTIMATELY, I HAD TO HAVE MY TRUCK TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS BRAKE LINE RUST/CORROSION, AND ANOTHER BRAKE LINE WAS ALSO ON THE VERGE OF FAILURE. I ENDED UP HAVING TWO BRAKE LINES REPLACED WHICH ADDED UP TO ABOUT $1200, BUT FORTUNATELY I'M A LOYAL CUSTOMER AT THAT DEALERSHIP, SO THE PRICE WAS REDUCED TO ABOUT $850. CURRENTLY I ONLY HAVE 44,000 MI ON MY TRUCK. *TR
MY 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO PICK UP TRUCK BRAKES FAILED THREE (3) DIFFERENT TIMES IN 2010.THIS HAPPENED ON A HIGHWAY AND RESIDENTIAL STREETS. THE BRAKE LINE TUBING RUPTURED BECAUSE OF RUST AND CORROSION, LEAVING ME IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WITH NO BRAKES. MY TRUCK IS IN AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP NOW AND ALL THE BRAKE LINE TUBING IS BEING REPLACED LEAVING ME WITH NO TRANSPORTATION FOR WORK AND A VERY LARGE AUTO REPAIR BILL. *TR
LEFT TURN SIGNAL CAUSES THE TURN SIGNALS TO ACT AS HAZARD SIGNALS PREVENTING OTHER DRIVERS FROM KNOWING THE TRUCK IS TURNING LEFT. IT IS SPORADIC, BUT OFTEN HEAR A BUZZ UNDER STEERING COLUMN WHEN IT OCCURS. SEE IT IS AN OFTEN REPORTED PROBLEM WITH A FAILED HAZARD LAMP FLASHER MODULE WHOSE CONTACTS FAIL DUE TO MOISTURE. MUST BE REPLACED WITH A SEALED MODULE. CHEVY CLAIMS THERE IS NO RECALL ON FAULTY PART (CALLED 4/8/10). *TR
I OWN A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO AND AS I AM DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AS SAYS "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" AND I AM ONLY ABLE TO TRAVEL BETWEEN 20 TO 30 MPH AND ALSO AS I COME TO A STOP LIGHT/SIGN THE TRUCK WANTS TO SPUTTER OUT AND DIE. EVERYTIME I TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC SHOP THEY TELL ME ITS THE THROTTLE BODY AND THAT IT NEEDS TO BE CHANGED BUT I HAVE ALREADY CHANGED IT 4 TIMES IN THE LAST TWO YEARS AND IS NOT THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM IS CONSTANTLY HAPPENING SOMETIME 3 TO 4 TIMES A DAY. *TR
BODY AND UNDER BODY RUST AND ROT TO INCLUDE FRAME, BRAKE LINES AND SHOCK MOUNTS. BRAKE LINES FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING, THANKFULLY AT SLOW SPEEDS AND WAS ABLE TO ACTIVATE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE.
THE LEFT DAYLIGHT RUNNING LIGHT BURNED OUT. UPON REMOVING THE BULB THE SOCKET WAS BROWN AND THE ELECTRICAL CONTACTS LOOKED CHARRED. THIS WAS THE ORIGINAL BULB INSTALLED AT THE FACTORY. CLEANED CONTACTS WITH SANDPAPER AND INSTALLED NEW 4114 BULB AS WAS REMOVED. I STILL HAVE THE BURNED OUT BULB. *TR
BRAKE LINES CORRODED CAUSING LACK OF BRAKING ABILITY. VEHICLE IS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD WITH 51848 MILES. BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED, AS ALL WERE CORRODED (MATERIAL PROBLEM). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT IN DECEMBER 2009. SINCE THE ACCIDENT, THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING. THE NEEDLE ON THE SPEEDOMETER NO LONGER MOVED. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND WOULD HAVE TO BE DONE SO AT HER EXPENSE. SHE HAD NOT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER TO-DATE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 89,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 88,000.
2003 CHEVY SILVERADO SPEEDOMETER. STARTED GIVING INCORRECT READINGS LAST MONTH. NOW UNIT IS STUCK AT 45 MPH. SOMETIMES NEEDLE WILL MOVE. *TR
2003 CHEVY SILVERADO LT 1500 4WD EXT.CAB. BRAKES CHANGED X2 WITH 35,000 MILES ON NOW. LINES RUSTED CAUSING COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. ABS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TOTAL FAILURE TO STOP. THIS ALL HAPPENED IN APPROX. ONE MONTH. I FEEL VERY FORTUNATE THAT I DID NOT KILL MYSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE. COST APPROX. $600. 35,000 MILES. THIS IS A TRAVESTY. WHAT ARE YOU DOING ABOUT IT???? *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH THE SPEEDOMETER BEGAN TO DISPLAY A SPEED OF 10 MPH. AS A RESULT THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. A PASSENGER IN THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS INJURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE BODY DAMAGES WERE REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE AND THE SPEEDOMETER INTERMITTENTLY DISPLAYED AN IMPROPER READING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 104,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
2003 CHEVROLET 2500 HD PICK-UP. I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY SLOWLY AND WHEN I APPLIED MY BRAKES TO STOP, THE BRAKES FAILED. GRABBED EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP TRUCK. UPON INSPECTION, REAR DRIVER SIDE METAL BRAKE LINE HAD SPLIT IN THE BEND IT MAKES TO REACH THE REAR AXLE FROM THE FRAME. ALL CONNECTIONS WERE TIGHT AND LEAK FREE. METAL LINE HAD CORRODED AND FAILED FOR NO REASON. *TR
MY WIFE BOUGHT A USED 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500HD FROM A DEALERSHIP ABOUT A MONTH AGO. WE HAVE TWO PROBLEMS WHICH SEEM TO BE COMMON WITH THIS VEHICLE. THE FIRST PROBLEM IS THAT THE ABS SYSTEM SEEMS TO ENGAGE AT LOW SPEED, CAUSING THE TRUCK TO CONTINUE MOVING FORWARD. I ALSO WOULD SMELL BURNING HYDRAULIC FLUID. I THOUGHT THAT THE BRAKES NEEDED BLED OR IT HAD A LEAK SOMEWHERE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT FIND THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK. THEY WERE ABLE TO TELL ME THAT THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE TRUCK NOT STOPPING WAS THE ABS SENSOR NEEDED TO HAVE THE RUST REMOVED FROM UNDERNEATH IT. THIS WOULD COST AROUND $300 DOLLARS, DEPENDING ON WHAT ELSE NEEDED DONE. THEY TOLD ME THIS YESTERDAY. THIS LEADS ME TO THE SECOND PROBLEM. I WAS AT MY FRIEND'S HOUSE AND WHEN I WENT TO LEAVE THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I LOOKED UNDERNEATH AND SAW A LARGE PUDDLE OF HYDRAULIC FLUID ON THE GROUND. A CLOSER INSPECTION REVEALED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED OUT. LUCKILY, THE VEHICLE WASN'T MOVING AND NOBODY WAS HURT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO SS. THE HITCH RECEIVER STARTED TO BEND. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND HE WAS REFERRED TO A FACTORY REPRESENTATIVE. THE RECEIVER HITCH WAS REPLACED WITH A BIGGER AND HEAVIER HITCH . THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION FOR THIS FAILURE, BUT HE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15000 . THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 30000.
ERRATIC SPEEDOMETER, ENGINE TROUBLE / CHECK ABS LIGHTS ALWAYS ON. NO SPECIFIC EVENT, JUST STARTED REGISTERING VERY HIGH SPEEDS OR VERY LOW SPEEDS THAT DID NOT MATCH ACTUAL SPEED OF VEHICLE. 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 4-WD, SPUN IN "BLACK ICE", THEN STRUCK CONCRETE HIGHWAY BARRIER HEAD-ON AND "SQUARE" AT APPROX 50-MPH. FRONT END OF TRUCK WAS CRUSHED BACK APPROX 14-INCHES. DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY, WITH THE RESULT THAT FACE STRUCK STEERING WHEEL, PRODUCING DEGLOVEMENT OF NOSE ON LEFT SIDE. LEFT KNEE STRUCK SWITCH ARRAY TO LOWER LEFT OF STEERING WHEEL. DRIVER WAS WEARING SEAT BELT. DRIVER TAKEN BY AMBULANCE TO NEAREST HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT. ATTEMPTS TO DISCUSS PROBLEM WITH CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP (BIDDLE CHEVROLET, BOTHELL, WASHINGTON) HAVE BEEN NEITHER PRODUCTIVE OR SATISFYING. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN SUGGESTED REPLACEMENT OF BOTH AIR BAGS SENSORS UNDER THE SEATS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 76,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED INTERMITTENTLY, BUT THE FAILURE BECAME FREQUENT, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND WITHIN A FEW MINUTES IT BEGAN TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND CONFIRMED THAT THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR HAD FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL 07V521000 ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; THEY AGREED TO CALL HIM AT A LATER DATE TO INFORM HIM IF THEY WERE GOING TO ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
ANTI-LOCK BRAKE MALFUNCTION CAUSING INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES. THE VEHICLE WILL REQUIRE A LONGER THAN NORMAL STOPPING DISTANCE. INITIALLY THE PROBLEM WILL BE INTERMITTENT AND INCREASE TO EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED AT SLOW SPEEDS (0-10MPH). THE SENSOR ON THE WHEEL BEARING NEEDS TO BE REMOVED AND CLEANED AND THE MOUNTING SURFACE ALSO NEEDS TO BE CLEANED. *TR
I HAVE A 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 AND I WANT TO REPORT THE DEFECTS I'VE NOTICED WITH MY TRUCK. FIRST OF ALL, THE SEAT BELT TENDS TO JAM FOR NO REASON. I WAS SITTING AT THE INTERSECTION WHEN I TRIED TO LEAN OVER AND THE SEATBELT WAS JAMMED. I COULD NOT MOVE AT ALL. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES TO ME AND SOME FRIENDS. ANOTHER PROBLEM IS THE A/C SYSTEM. MY TRUCK HAS DUAL CONTROL SYSTEM AND THE DRIVERS SIDE WILL BLOW HOT AIR WHILE THE PASSENGERS SIDE BLOWS SOLD AIR ALL WHILE THE SETTINGS ARE BOTH IN COLD AIR. TURNING OFF THE IGNITION AND RESTARTING SEEMS TO TEMPORARILY FIX THE PROBLEM BUT WITHIN 20 MINUTES I AM BACK TO SQUARE ONE. THIS PROBLEM IS EXTREMELY COMMON AS I HAVE HEARD MANY OTHER PEOPLE COMPLAIN OF THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. FINALLY, THE OTHER ISSUE IS THE SPEEDOMETER. THE SPEEDOMETER SEEMS TO WORK ONLY WHEN IT WANTS TOO. I HAD THIS PROBLEM ABOUT 2 YRS AFTER I BOUGHT IT AND I EXPERIENCE THIS MORE OFTEN NOW. SOMETIMES OTHER GAUGES WILL NOT WORK EITHER SUCH AS THE BATTERY AND RPM GAUGE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ALONG THE ROAD THIS PAST WINTER AND A CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME...I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO BRAKES AND THANKFULLLY WAS ABLE TO GET AROUND THE CAR INTO THE OTHER LANE WITHOUT INJURY. THE BRAKE LINES WERE ALL CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT HAD THERE BEEN VEHICLES IN THE OTHER LANE. IN ADDITION TO THIS THE SPEEDOMETER OFTEN STOPS WORKING AND IS REGISTERING AT THE WRONG SPEED. *TR
MY 2003 CHEVROLET C/K 1500 SILVERADO IS HAVING A MESSAGE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL SHOWING REDUCED ENGINE POWER. THEN, THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY DROPPED POWER. THE SPEED WILL DRAMATICALLY SLOW TO AROUND 15 MPH. THIS HAPPENED 3 PREVIOUS TIMES. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL NEAR MISSES AS A RESULT OF THE POWER REDUCTION. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE DEALERSHIP ON FIVE SEPARATE OCCASIONS DUE TO THE ENGINE POWER FAILURE - AT TIMES THE ENGINE WILL NOT RESTART. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR, THROTTLE BODY, POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULE, THROTTLE ACTUATOR, CONTROL MODULE, ALSO, THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED AND THE ENGINE WAS STILL LOSING POWER. THE DEALERSHIP AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS CONTACTED AND I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO GET ANY HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM. *TR
2003 THRU 2007 GM FULL SIZE TRUCKS AND VANS.THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFT LOCK CONTROL (FORMERLY KNOWN AS THE BRAKE TRANSMISSION INTERLOCK (BSTI)) DOES NOT OPERATE WITH THE KEY IN THE ACCESSORIES POSITION. CALLED GM AND WAS TOLD TO TAKE IT IN AND HAVE IT DIAGNOSED.GM DEALER CHECKED IT OUT AND GAVE ME A GM BULLETIN THAT SAYS"THE SHIFT LOCK MECHANISM IS ONLY ACTIVE WHEN THE IGNITION IS IN THE RUN OR ON POSITION." I KNOW THAT THE YEARS PRIOR TO 2003 AND YEARS AFTER 2007 THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION OUT OF PARK WITH OUT THE BRAKE PEDAL APPLIED WITH THE KEY TURNED TO THE ACCESSORIES POSITION. IF IT WAS NOT A PROBLEM FROM 2003 TO 2007 WHY DID THEY CHANGE IT AND WHY WASN'T IT THAT WAY BEFORE? I THINK THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD CREATE SERIOUS INJURIES OR WORSE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKE ROTORS DISSENIGRATED AND FELL APART. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON TWO OCCASIONS. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ROTORS ON THE REAR AND FRONT BRAKES. THE BRAKES FAILED AND THE BRAKE SHOES FELL OFF OF THE TRUCK 5,000 MILES AFTER THE ROTORS WERE REPLACED. THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CONTACT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,754.
STEERING IN 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO ..INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT. TERRIBLE NOISE AND VIBRATIONS CAN BE HEARD AND FELT THRU THE FLOORBOARD. HAD FIXED AFTER SEVERAL COMPLAINTS TO NUMEROUS GM DEALERS. NO ONE WOULD ACKNOWLEDGE WHILE UNDER WARRANTY. NOW THEY SAY ITS A PROBLEM, ALL CHEVY'S HAVE IT. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL SITUATION EVEN IF ITS ONLY BECAUSE OF THE PRICE WE PAY FOR THE VEHICLES!!! *TR

MY 2003 SILVERADO HAS A GREAT DEAL OF RUST ON THE UNDER CARRIAGE OF THE TRUCK. MOST WOULD CONSIDER IT SURFACE RUST, BUT THE BRAKE LINES DISTURBED ME. I WAS WORRIED ABOUT THEM RUSTING THROUGH. SURE ENOUGH, WHILE TOWING MY TRAILER I HAD TO STOP FOR A QUICK CHANGING TRAFFIC LIGHT, AND MY FOOT WENT TO THE FLOOR. PUMPING DID NOT HELP MUCH SINCE BOTH MAIN LINES GOING TO ABS UNIT (LOCATED UNDER THE TRUCK) BLEW OUT. I USED MY TRAILER BRAKES TO HELP STOP THE TRUCK. I HAD MY TRUCK TOWED TO MY MECHANIC AND WE FELT IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE THE TRUCK WITH THE OTHER BRAKE LINES IN THE SAME CONDITION. WE REPLACED ALL THE LINES WITH STAINLESS STEEL ($350). BUT SINCE THE RUST EFFECTED ALL OF THE CALIPERS, THEY HAD TO BE REPLACED AS WELL AS THE ROTORS. I HAVE THE OLD LINES FOR INSPECTION UPDATED 05/11/10.*JB

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HEAVY DUTY. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A TRAFFIC STOP, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FELL INTO THE FLOORBOARD MUCH FARTHER THAN NORMAL HOWEVER; THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 25 MPH. THE REDUCED POWER WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AND THE CONTACT MOVED THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROADWAY. THE CONTACT SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWO ADDITIONAL TIMES. THE DEALER RE-ROUTED THE INSIDE ENGINE HARNESS YET THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY PERFORMED AN ENGINE RELEARN SERVICE. THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 117,000.
