TL* THE CONTACT OWN A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES, FUEL LINES, FUEL STRAPS AND THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD WERE RUSTED AND CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND WHEN THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE BECAUSE MOST VEHICLES WITHIN THE EASTERN REGION EXPERIENCED THE SAME RUST FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
AFTER PERUSING EXCESSIVE RUST TO UNDER-CARRIAGE OF 2003 SILVERADO, RESEARCHED OTHER COMPLAINTS AND FOUND NUMEROUS FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. THIS LED ME TO BELIEVE THAT COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO RUST PROBLEMS. ENTIRE LEFT BRAKE LINE HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO RUST-THROUGH. ACTUAL RUST-THROUGH OF BRAKE LINE WAS NOT REPORTED TO GM AS AT THE TIME I SAW NO CORRELATION TO WHAT LATER BECAME A RUST THROUGH PROBLEM OF BUMPERS AND CARGO BODY. THIS WAS EXPERIENCED AFTER RUST-THROUGH WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. MY CONCERN IS WITH THE RUSTING OF BRAKE LINES AND POSSIBLE INJURY AND EVEN DEATH WHEN COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE IS EXPERIENCED. IF THIS HAS NO RELEVANCE TO OTHER RUST PROBLEMS WITH THE CHEVY SILVERADO FROM 2002 UNTIL 2009 THEN DISREGARD THIS COMPLAINT. *TR
I FILED A COMPLAINT IN 2009 WITH THE NHTSA AND HAVE YET TO HEAR ANYTHING FROM THE AGENCY REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. IN THE SAME YEAR AS THE COMPLAINT, I HAD MY LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPLACE A SECTION OF BRAKE LINE BY THE ABS MODULE THAT HAD FAILED DUE TO EXTREME CORROSION. THIS PAST WEEK I RETURNED TO THE SAME DEALER TO HAVE THEM REPAIR ANOTHER SECTION THAT HAD ALSO FAILED. I WAS TOLD THAT, DUE TO POSSIBLE LITIGATION THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE LINE AS THEY HAD IN THE PAST, BUT WOULD REPLACE THE ENTIRETY OF THE LINE FOR AN ESTIMATE OF $1200.00. THE SERVICE MANAGER ALSO STATED THAT FIGURE COULD GO HIGHER AS MORE WAS DISCOVERED. I CAN'T SEE PUTTING THIS KIND OF MONEY INTO THIS VEHICLE KNOWING THAT MORE FAILURES ARE SURE TO FOLLOW EVEN THOUGH THE TRUCK HAS ONLY 95,000 MILES ON IT NOW. GM KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM. THEY COULD CARE LESS AND THE CUSTOMER IS GOING TO FOOT THE BILL FOR THEIR MALFEASANCE AS USUAL. *KB
2003 CHEVY SILVERADO - POOR STEERING- I HAVE REPLACED THE GEARING BOX W/FRONT END ALIGNMENT DUE TO HAVING 4 ESTIMATES AND ADVISED THAT THE GEAR BOX WAS DEFECTED. 6 MONTHS LATER - I HAVE BEEN ADVISED BY SEVERAL CERTIFIED MECHANICS THAT THE GEAR BOX THAT WAS PUT IN IS ALSO DEFECTED. POOR STEERING CONTROL, TRUCK PULLS ALL OVER THE ROAD WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. IF THE STEERING BOXES FOR THIS YEAR/MAKE VEHICLES ARE DEFECTED, WHY NOT COMPENSATE THE OWNERS FOR ALL THE EXPENSES. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THESE PARTS FOR THIS YEAR VEHICLE IS IN FACT DEFECTED. HOW MANY COMPLAINTS/ACCIDENTS/INJURIES DOES IT TAKE BEFORE THESE ISSUES ARE ACKNOWLEDGED? I HAVE SPENT OVER $1,500.00 JUST IN THE BRAKING AND STEERING REPAIRS AND YET FACED AGAIN WITH MORE COST OR EITHER GET RID OF MY TRUCK THAT I HAD FOR 1 YEAR. *TR
OUR SPEEDOMETER IN OUR 2003 CHEVY 1500 PICK STOPPED WORKING AFTER WE GOT A NOTICE THAT WAS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM BUT WAS ONLY HONORED IF IT HAPPENED UNDER 80K MILES WE NEVER HAD THE ISSUE UNTIL WE WERE AT 99K MILES. SO MY COMPLAINT IS : IS THERE ANYTHING WE CAN DO? WE HAVE 104K ON THE TRUCK NOW. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE HVAC BLOWER MOTOR WOULD NOT FUNCTION ON LOW SETTINGS AND THERE WERE STRONG FUMES EMITTING FROM THE VENTS. THERE WAS VOLUNTARY RECALL FOR CORROSION ON THE WIRING CONNECTOR AND HVAC BLOWER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OVER THE MILEAGE INDICATED IN THE VOLUNTARY RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET K1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON AN INCLINE IN HIS CARPORT WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ACTIVATED AND THE GEAR SHIFTER POSITIONED PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE ROLLED AND CRASHED INTO A HOUSE WITHOUT WARNING. THERE WERE NO PERSONAL INJURIES AND THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED MODERATE DAMAGES. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE PROPERTY'S FOUNDATION, SIDING, AND GUTTERS. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. TWO YEARS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE DEALER PERFORMED A FREE REMEDY REPAIR ON THE EMERGENCY SERVICE BRAKE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AND THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 250,000. UPDATED 3/16/09 */CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE PARKING FAILURE WAS THE CAUSE OF THE VEHICLE ROLLING DOWN A HILL AND CRASHING INTO A NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE. THE 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" DISPLAYS ON THE DASH. THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO LOSE POWER AT ANY TIME. THIS HAPPENED BACK IN FEBRUARY, TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE, AND THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY HOUSING. I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AFTER THE HOUSING WAS REPLACED, AND LOST POWER 2 MORE TIMES BEFORE I COULD GET IT IN FOR SERVICE. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER, AND THEY REPLACED THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE COMPONENT. I RECEIVED THE MESSAGE 2 MORE TIMES. TOOK THE TRUCK BACK, AND THEY REPLACED THE COMPUTER. SAME PROBLEM. THE TRUCK IS AT THE DEALER NOW. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AT ONLY 45,000 MILES. HAD TRUCK TOWED TO DEALER. THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO BE A BROKEN FORWARD CLUTCH. VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY (6 YRS OLD), SO WE CONTACTED GM DIRECTLY FOR ASSISTANCE. THEY REFUSED ASSISTANCE, DUE TO AGE OF THE VEHICLE, IGNORING THE FACT THAT IT ONLY HAD 45,000 MILES ON IT. THE REPAIRS COST NEARLY $2,000. GM ALSO REFUSED TO WARRANTY THE LABOR COSTS OF THE JOB. THE WARRANTY AFTER THE REPAIR JOB ONLY COVERS PARTS FOR 12 MTHS / 12,000 MILES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG SUDDENLY DEPLOYED. THE SUDDEN DEPLOYMENT HINDERED THE CONTACT'S VISIBILITY, ALONG WITH THE SMOKE AND POWDER THAT EMITTED FROM THE AIR BAG. HE ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE WINDOWS AND NOTICED THAT ALL ELECTRICITY IN THE VEHICLE WAS LOST. HE COULD NOT UNLOCK THE DOORS OR ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 162,462.
STEERING COLUMN IS BAD DEFINITELY IS A SAFETY ISSUE CHEVROLET HAS NO RECALL ON THIS BUT WANTS TO CHARGE 300 TO FIX THIS WHY ISN'T IT A RECALL I COULD LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
I AM WRITING IN REGARDS TO MY ANTI LOCK BAKING SYSTEM (ABS) AND MY STEERING COLUMN. I WAS NEARLY INVOLVED IN AN AUTO ACCIDENT ON DRY PAVEMENT WHEN MY ABS SYSTEM ENGAGED AND THEN DIS-ENGAGED AT A SPEED OF LESS THAN 10 MPH. WHEN STEERING TO THE RIGHT TO AVOID THE ACCIDENT, MY STEERING COLUMN HAD A STRANGE VIBRATION/LOUD HUMMING NOISE. MY ANTILOCK BRAKES ENGAGED WHILE I WAS SLOWING TO SWERVE TO MISS THE ONCOMING VEHICLE AND THEN MY ABS STOPPED WORKING AND MY ABS WARNING LIGHT ALONG WITH MY PARKING BRAKE (P) WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. NOW, SINCE THAT DAY (2 DAYS AGO), MY STEERING COLUMN STILL MAKES NOISES WHEN I TURN TO THE RIGHT AND MY ABS SYSTEM CONTINUES TO ENGAGE AT SLOW SPEEDS WHEN STOPPING EVEN ON DRY PAVEMENT. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY A GM DEALERSHIP THAT THE TWO ISSUES THAT I AM EXPERIENCING ARE NOT ON A RECALL LIST BUT ARE COMMON PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE. THEY FURTHER ADVISED THAT SINCE MY VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THESE MALFUNCTIONS. I WAS TOLD BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC THAT THE ABOVE ISSUES ARE SAFETY ISSUES AND GM IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS. WITH THE ABOVE BEING SAID, I FEEL THAT MY ISSUES WITH THE ABS SYSTEM AND THE STEERING COLUMN ARE SAFETY ISSUES AND GM SHOULD BE ADDRESSING THESE ISSUES BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. 4 TIMES IN 58,000 MILE THE FRONT STEERING SHAFT HAS NEEDED ATTENTION. TWICE UNDER WARRANTY, TWICE NOT. PAID FOR CORRECTION, 4TH TIME REFUSED TO PAY AS FEEL IT IS GM PROBLEM SINCE ALL 2003 CHEVY. SILVERADOS SUFFER FROM THIS. GM HAS DESIGNED A NEW PART BUT REFUSE TO INSTALL UNLESS CONSUMER PAYS FOR IT. THEY ADMITTED IT IS A PROBLEM. SETTLED ONCE, THEY SAID INSTALLED A NEW PART , FOUND OUT THEY DID NOT . HAVE REFERRED IT TO NY STATE ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE FOR ACTION, THEY ARE PRESENTLY TRYING TO MEDIATE. SINCE ALL SILVERADOS SUFFER FROM STEER SHAFT FAILURE SEEMS TO BE A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM AND SHOULD ALL BE RECALLED TO FIX. *TR
I STARTED MY 2003 CHEVY TO LET IT WARM UP AND WENT BACK IN THE HOUSE THEN CAME BACK OUT FIND THE WIRING FOR THE HEATER UNDER THE PASSENGER DASH WAS ON FIRE. THE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDETERMINED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SOME OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATORS WERE NOT ILLUMINATED. ONLY THE MILEAGE AND GEAR SHIFTER AREAS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE RPM, SPEEDOMETER, GASOLINE, AND BATTERY GAUGES WERE ALL MALFUNCTIONING. ALL OF THE LIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE EXCEEDED THE MILEAGE REQUIREMENT. THE MANUFACTURER FURTHER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY AND HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. HE BELIEVES THAT THE VEHICLE IS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN BECAUSE HE CANNOT DETERMINE WHAT SPEED HE IS TRAVELING. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 130,000.
MY INSTRUMENT PANEL QUIT READING ACTUALLY SPEED. IT ONLY DOES IT EVERY ONCE IN WHILE. IT ALWAYS READS SLOWER THEN WHAT THE ACTUAL SPEED IS. AFTER THE TRUCK IS SHUT OFF AWHILE IT READS RIGHT AFTER THE TRUCK IS RESTARTED. THE PRICE IS AROUND 500 TO REPLACE. MY TRUCK I BOUGHT USED WITH 100000 MILES ON IT. IT GOT 114000 NOW SO I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE IT UNLESS A TOTAL RECALL IS DONE ON IT TO REPLACE ALL INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS FOR ALL WITH MORE THEN 70000 MILES ON IT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE MUST DISCONNECT HIS BATTERY IN ORDER FOR THE SPEEDOMETER TO WORK. THE SPEEDOMETER IS STUCK ON 45 MPH AND DOES NOT MOVE UP OR DOWN. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL; HOWEVER, A TSB STATED THAT WITHIN SEVEN YEARS OR 70,000 MILES THE GAUGE CLUSTERS COULD BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE TSB. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,400. UPDATED 03/23/09. *LJ THE CONSUMER STATED HE NEVER KNOWS HOW FAST HE IS DRIVING. UPDATED 03/24/09*JB
2003 EXT CAB SILVERADO 1500 4WD ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATE AT LOW SPEEDS ALMOST CAUSING ME TO REAR END VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. *TR
SPEEDOMETER INDICATOR DOES NOT GO TO ZERO, STARTS AT 65 MPH AND GOES OVER 120 MPH. IMMEDIATE FAILURE. SO FAR CHECKED TO SEE IF A RECALL, NOTED THAT YOUR WEBSITE HAD OVER 35 COMPLAINTS ABOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. *TR
2003 CHEVY 1500HD TRUCK, THIS TRUCK IS EQUIPPED WITH 4 WHEEL STEERING. THE TRUCK BEGAN TO STEER INCORRECTLY. IT WAS TAKEN TO GM DEALER. WORK WAS DONE TO FIX PROBLEM ONLY TO FIND OUT LATER THAT THE REAR WHEELS WERE NOW TURNED TO THE LEFT MAKING THE TRUCK GO DOWN THE ROADSOME WHAT SIDEWAYS ABOUT 6 TO10 INCHES..THIS MEANS THE FRONT END IN YOUR LANE AND THE BACK END IN SOMEONE ELSE'S. THIS COULD NOT BE STOPPED BY TURNING THE SYSTEM OFFA SAFETY FEATURE. GM WOULD NOT FIX OR ADMIT IT HAD A PROBLEM, SO I HAD THE TRUCK REPAIRED AGAIN AT MY COST. THIS A SAFETY HAZARD AND SHOULD BE FIX IMMEDIATELY BEFORE SOME ONE DIE. *TR
DURING OCTOBER OF 2008, I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GENERAL MOTORS INFORMING ME THAT MY 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO WAS AMONG A GROUP OF VEHICLES AFFECTED BY POTENTIAL INSTRUMENT GAUGE PROBLEMS, AND THAT I SHOULD ONLY BRING MY VEHICLE TO A DEALER FOR EVALUATION IF I WAS ACTUALLY EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THE LETTER WENT ON TO STATE THAT THE VEHICLE WARRANTY ON THIS ISSUE WAS BEING EXTENDED TO 70,000 MILES OR 7 YEARS, WHICHEVER CAME FIRST. WELL, AT THE TIME I RECEIVED THE NOTICE, MY TRUCK HAD APPROXIMATELY 110,000 MILES ON IT, SO I WAS BASICALLY "OUT OF LUCK" AS FAR AS GM WAS CONCERNED. AT THAT TIME, MY VEHICLE WAS NOT EXHIBITING ANY OF THE SYMPTOMS DESCRIBED IN THE LETTER. HOWEVER, SHORTLY AFTER CHRISTMAS, 2008, MY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DID BEGIN TO MALFUNCTION. BEGINNING WITH THE TACHOMETER NOT READING AT ALL, THE SYMPTOMS PROGRESSED TO SPORADIC TACHOMETER READINGS, AND THEN THE SPEEDOMETER BEGAN TO BE AFFECTED. RIGHT NOW, THE SPEEDOMETER CAN INTERMITTENTLY READ ANYTHING FROM "ZERO" (WHEN I AM ACTUALLY DOING MORE THAN 50 MPH) TO 110 (WHEN I AM ACTUALLY DOING ABOUT 60 MPH). WHEN THE SYMPTOMS BEGAN TO OCCUR, I CALLED MY LOCAL GM DEALER TO SEE ABOUT REPAIRS, AND I WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE WAS "OUTSIDE OF THE REPAIR WINDOW" FOR THE COURTESY REPAIR, AND WHEN I ASKED HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST TO REPAIR IT ON MY OWN, I WAS TOLD "ABOUT $500". SINCE THE PROBLEM IS (SO FAR) VERY INTERMITTENT AND UNPREDICTABLE, AND SINCE I DON'T HAPPEN TO HAVE A SPARE $500 TO SPEND ON A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM WHICH GM HAS APPARENTLY KNOWN ABOUT FOR SOME TIME AND REFUSES TO ADDRESS BEYOND A VERY LIMITED SCOPE, I ELECTED TO "WAIT AND SEE". I BOUGHT MY 2003 SILVERADO NEW. NO COMPLAINTS UNTIL 2008 WHEN THE BRAKE ROTORS AND CALIPERS STARTED RUSTING.TOWARD THE END OF THE YEAR I REPLACED THE FRONT ROTORS WITH NEW AND EXERCISED THE CALIPERS. I DROVE IT A MONTH AND THE REAR BRAKES WERE ACTING UP. I PARKED IT UNTIL 2009 AND TRIED DRIVING IT AGAIN. THE REAR BRAKES WERE ACTING AS IF THEY WERE NOT EVEN THERE. I REMOVED THE WHEELS AND FOUND NOTHING BUT RUST. NOT JUST SURFACE RUST BUT DEEP PITTED RUST ON THE ROTORS AND CALIPERS. I REPLACED THE REAR ROTORS AND CALIPERS, INSTALLED NEW PADS AND BLED THE SYSTEM, FRONT AND REAR. ALSO NOTICED THE BRAKE LINES ARE SEVERELY RUSTED BUT DID NOT CHANGE THEM YET. I DROVE THE TRUCK FOR A WEEK AND WAS PLEASED WITH THE WAY THE BRAKES WERE WORKING. THEN THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON FOLLOWED BY THE REGULAR BRAKE LIGHT. EVERYTHING LOOKED NORMAL, FLUID LEVEL, NO LEAKS, BRAKES SEEMED TO WORK OK BUT WASN'T GOING TO CHANCE IT. I PARKED THE TRUCK AND CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THE ONLY RECALL WAS FOR FRONT ABS SENSORS. HOW CAN A VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 35,000 MILES HAVE ITS BRAKES TURN INTO A BALL OF RUST ! 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO ANTI-LOCK BRAKES REPEATED CAUSE FAILURE TO STOP, ESPECIALLY ON SLIPPERY SURFACES. THE ALGORITHM DOES NOT WORK. WHILE DRIVING / COASTING AT 25 MPH, A CAR MADE A SUDDEN LANE CHANGE IN FRONT OF ME. I APPLIED THE BRAKES ON A SNOW COVERED ROAD AND THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATED, CAUSING ME TO ROLL MUCH MORE RAPIDLY TOWARD THE BACK OF THE CAR. I SWERVED INTO A PARKING LOT OPENING, BUT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE SCRAPED A SMALL ROADSIDE TREE. THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ALSO ACTIVATE WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES WHILE DRIVING OVER ROUGH ROADS. I HAVE FREQUENTLY ROLLED INTO INTERSECTIONS WHEN THIS OCCURS. IT'S THE WORST ON SLIPPERY ROADS. I CONDUCTED SEVERAL TESTS BY DRIVING A FIXED SPEED AND ATTEMPTING TO STOP IN AS SHORT A DISTANCE AS POSSIBLE ON A SNOW COVERED SLIPPERY ROAD. IF I APPLY BRAKES UP TO THE POINT WHERE THE WHEELS WANT TO LOCK, BUT I DON'T PRESS HARD ENOUGH TO ACTIVATE THE ANTI-LOCK PULSATION, I CAN STOP IN THE SHORTEST DISTANCE. IF THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES PULSE, I ROLL MUCH FURTHER. IF I LET OFF THE BRAKES A LITTLE DURING THE PULSATION, THE TRUCK STILL STOPS IN A SHORTER DISTANCE. THIS FLAW IS NOT AS NOTICEABLE ON DRY PAVEMENT. WHEN I NOTIFIED THE DEALER, THEY TOLD ME THAT'S THE WAY THEY ARE, AND THERE WAS NO RECALL, ETC. I HOPE SOMEONE ISSUES A RECALL BEFORE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH OCCURS. THERE'S A GOOD CHANCE I WILL DISABLE THE ANTI-LOCK FUNCTIONALITY, AT LEAST DURING WINTER DRIVING. THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ON OTHER SIMILAR VEHICLES SUFFER THE SAME CONDITIONS FROM MY INVESTIGATION. THE SPEEDOMETER ON MY 2003 SILVERADO STARTED ACTING ERRATIC. AT FIRST THE VEHICLE SPEEDS WERE HIGHLY INACCURATE, I.E. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY USING A GPS UNIT THE SPEEDOMETER SHOWED BETWEEN 100 AND 110 MPH. SHORTLY AFTER THE HAND WENT TO BOTTOM HORIZONTAL POSITION AND RENDERED THE SPEEDOMETER USELESS. I UNDERSTAND FROM DISCUSSION FORUMS ON THE INTERNET THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT IS RESOLVED THROUGH THE REPLACEMENT OF THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THE NEXT DAY MY HUSBAND DROVE THE VEHICLE FOR APPROX.10 MIN AND SMOKE STARTED BILLOWING OUT FROM UNDER THE DASH (PASS. SIDE). HE TURNED AROUND, CAME HOME AND WE USED A FIRE EXTINGUISHER TO PUT OUT THE FIRE UNDER THE GLOVE BOX AND ALSO COVERED BY A PLASTIC COVERING NOT QUICKLY ABLE TO BE REMOVED. DISCONNECTED THE BATTERIES AND REMOVED THE COVER EXPOSING THE WIRING. WE CAN SEE THE WIRING AND RELAY THAT HAVE MELTED. CALLED GM (11/3, 9 - 10 BUS. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE POWER STEERING FLUID LEAK WAS COMING FROM THE HYDRO BOOSTER ONTO THE POWER STEERING GEAR. THE CONSUMER LOST HIS BRAKES. IT WAS DISCOVERED THE BOOSTER ROD WAS MISSING. THE PARKING BRAKE DID NOT WORK AND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILED AS WELL. THEY HAVE BEEN REGULARLY CHECKED FOR AIR PRESSURE AND BALANCED AN ROTATED. ON JUNE 28,2008, 26 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE AND WITH ABOUT 24000 MILES ON THEM THE FRONT LEFT TIRE FAILED . I REPLACED TIRE WITH SPARE. ON 10/10/08 WITH ABOUT 27000 MILES ON IT THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE FAILED IN THE SAME MANNER.
