EXPERIENCE LOW SPEED UNWANTED ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) ACTIVATION, MULTIPLE TIMES, DAILY. CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 4X4, YR 2003. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A SWITCHBACK AND THE RIGHT FRONT 1/2 OF THE AXEL AND WHEEL (TIRE AND RIM) SEPARATED, LEAVING ME RIDING ON THE RIGHT TIE-ROD AND BUMPER. THE AXEL AND TIRE/RIM BOUNCED OFF THE HOOD AND SLAMMED DOWN THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE TRUCK TAKING OUT ALL THE GLASS AND DAMAGING THE ROOF AND SIDE. I PARKED IT BY THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BY PUSHING THE EMERGENCY BREAK, IF I HAD PUSHED THE MAIN BREAK I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE LEFT LANE AND OVER THE SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN. THE LINKAGE BETWEEN THE RIGHT AND LEFT SIDES FAILED ACCORDING TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING 5-10 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED DURING LEFT AND RIGHT TURNS. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT THE COST OF $350. THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE DEALER THEN STATED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS THE POWER STEERING BOX; HOWEVER, IT HAS NOT YET BEEN REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER IS WAITING FOR A DIAGNOSTIC FROM THE DEALER TO DETERMINE THE TRUE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,500. SPEEDOMETER FAILS TO READ, OR REPORTS INCORRECT SPEED. *TR
I WAS HEADING DOWN INTERSTATE RUNNING AROUND 70 MPH. NEXT THING I KNEW I WAS RED LINE ON MY RPM AND WAS SLOWING DOWN. HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK CAUSE TRANSMISSION WAS TORE SLAP OUT. I MOSTLY DRIVE ABOUT 70 MILES ROUND TRIP 5 DAYS A WEEK TO MY JOB OTHER THAN IT SETS IN THE DRIVE WAY. AFTER A BIG TOW BILL TO HOME I HAVE TO PAY AGAIN TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE SHOP AND FIND OUT IT WILL BE A $1800 REPAIR. I HAVE BEEN A CHEVY OWNER ALL MY LIFE. HAD A 98 MODEL TRUCK JUST LIKE IT WENT TILL I ROLLED 250,000 ON IT WITH ONLY MINOR PROBLEMS. AND THIS ONE DOESN'T EVEN MAKE 85,000. *TR
I HAVE A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO WITH 85,000 MILES. THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL STOPPED WORKING AT 80,000 MILES. WITHOUT THE ENGINE RUNNING THE NEEDLE MOVES ALL THE WAY TO THE MAXIMUM. I HAVE HERD FROM MANY SILVERADO OWNERS THAT THEY HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THERE VEHICLES. WHY IS THERE NO RECALL WITH SO MANY COMPLAINTS? *TR
DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY THINKING THAT THE OTHER DRIVERS WERE GOING SLOW. I THEN NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE RPM WAS MORE LIKE I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 95 MPH WHILE SPEEDOMETER REGISTERED 65 MPH. EVENTUALLY DURING THIS TRIP THE SPEEDOMETER DROPPED TO ZERO MPH. AFTER STOPPING AND RESUMING THE TRIP THE SPEEDOMETER APPEARED TO BE WORKING PROPERLY, BUT THAT ONLY LASTED FOR ABOUT 15 MILES WHEN I NOTICED IT AGAIN LOSING SPEED WHILE THE ENGINE RPM REMAINED THE SAME. AGAIN IT EVENTUALLY DROPPED TO ZERO. I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET AND HAVE NOTED AT LEAST 300 SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I COULD HAVE EASILY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT, OR RECEIVED A CITATION HAD I HAD THE MISFORTUNE TO HAVE BEEN OBSERVED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT BEFORE I DETECTED THE MALFUNCTION MYSELF. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. *TR
INTERMITTENT FAILURE OF INSTRUMENT/GAUGES CLUSTER CAUSING UNKNOWN DRIVING SPEEDS AND UNABLE IDENTIFY POSSIBLE ENGINE PROBLEMS AND UN ABLE IDENTIFY FUEL LEVEL. INTERMITTENT FAILURE OCCURRED FOR TWO YEARS UNTIL TOTALLY FAILURE OCCURRED. *TR
I AM AN EXPERIENCED CPST IN BATON ROUGE LOUISIANA. ON 7-30-08 I ASSISTED A MOTHER WITH THE INSTALLATION OF A NEW BRITAX MARATHON (CAMO PATTERN COVER) USING THE LATCH SYSTEM. MOTHER INDICATED SHE HAD JUST RECEIVED THE SEAT AND IT HAD BEEN BACK-ORDERED FOR SOME TIME. WHEN I PULLED BACK THE SEAT COVER TO ACCESS THE STORED LATCH ATTACHMENTS....I NOTED THAT THE ATTACHMENTS WERE STORED IN A MANNER THAT MIGHT LEAD TO MISUSE. THE ATTACHMENTS WERE ROUTED TO THE INSIDE OF THE HARNESS BEFORE BEING PLACED IN THE RECESSED STORAGE COMPARTMENT (IN THE SHELL TOWARD THE BACK OF THE SEAT). THE PROBLEM....UNLESS A PARENT LIFTS THE SEAT COVER ALL THE WAY TO VISUALIZE THE ? MISROUTING OF THE STORED CONNECTORS ...ENTANGLEMENT OF THE HARNESS COULD EASILY OCCUR WHEN THE ATTACHMENTS ARE REMOVED FROM THE STORAGE COMPARTMENT AND PULLED THROUGH THE RF BELT PATH PATH OPENINGS IN THE SHELL. I HAVE CONTACTED THE CLIENT TO ASK FOR BATCH NUMBER AND SERIAL # ON THE PRODUCT BUT THE HOME PHONE SEEMS CONNECTED TO A FAX. I GAVE HIM THE MODEL # AND MFG DATE. HE DID NOT REQUEST ANY IDENTIFYING INFORMATION OR CONTACT INFORMATION FROM ME FOR FOLLOW-UP. I AM ALWAYS SOMEWHAT CONCERNED WHEN NO FOLLOW-UP NAME / NUMBER IS REQUESTED ON A CONCERN I HAVE REGISTERED WITH A MANUFACTURER. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS IN HIS VEHICLE CAUSED IT TO JERK. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AT ANY SPEED, BUT MOST RECENTLY AT 55 MPH. THE DEALER REMOVED ALL OF THE WHEELS AND DISCOVERED UNEVEN PAD WEAR. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO REPLACE ALL THE PADS AND ROTORS AT THE APPROXIMATE COST OF $800. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD OFFER A SLIGHT DISCOUNT BECAUSE THE CONTACT WAS A LOYAL CUSTOMER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 27,995 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 27,400.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED UNWANTED ANTILOCK BRAKE ACTIVATION. THE DEALER STATED THAT HIS MODEL YEAR WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK). THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO K1500. THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING BETWEEN 5 AND 10 MPH WHEN THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SIX TIMES. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 101,000.
UPON NORMAL BRAKING. A BRAKE LINE RUPTURED, ALL BRAKE FLUID WAS LOST, AND THE BRAKING SYSTEM FAILED. *TR
2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO PICKUP STEERING DEFECT. INTERMEDIATE STEERING BECOMES LOOSE. POSSIBLE LOSS OF CONTROL. CURRENT REPAIR IS TO GREASE SHAFT TO DEADEN SOUND OF LOOSE SLIDING PARTS. STEERING PARTS IN QUESTION ARE CRUCIAL TO SAFE OPERATION. MULTIPLE OCCURRENCES WITH THIS VEHICLE. *TR
INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT CLUNKING WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS BEEN REPLACED BEFORE AND THE CLUNKING STOPPED FOR A WHILE, BUT IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. *TR
THE TRUCK WAS PURCHASED THE 17TH OF JUNE AND TWO WKS LATER THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND ITS WAS REAL HARD TO GET IN 2ND GEAR. WE TOOK IT TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND THEY CHECKED IT OUT FOR US. THE PROBLEMS ARE THERE IS NO CAT CONVERTER,TWO SEALS AND A SENSOR THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. NOT TO MENTION 2ND GEAR IS MESSED .THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD US AND GAVE US THE LIST OF THINGS WRONG AND THEY ARE THE 2ND GEAR ,THE SYNCHRONI,3ND GEAR,SYNCHRONI AND THE RING IN FIRST. ALL THIS IS TO DO WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND THE CAT CONVERTER. A AND Z AUTOS GOT MAD THAT WE TOOK IT TO THE CHEVY DEALER. THEY KEEP GIVING US THE RUN AROUND AND HAVE NOT FIXED THE TRUCK YET AND THEY STILL HAVE IT AT THEIR SHOP. THEY WILL NOT RETURN OUR CALLS . *TR
WINDSHIELD WIPERS STAY ON AND WON'T TURN OFF, YOU CAN TURN THEM ON HIGH, BUT NOT OFF OR INTERMITTENT. FUSE HAD TO BE PULLED TO GET THEM TO CUT OFF, BUT WHEN FUSE WAS REPLACED, WIPERS STAYED ON STILL. THIS IS A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD DUE TO THE FACT THAT DRIVING WITH FUSE PULLED ANY RAINFALL COULD HINDER DRIVING. UNTIL VEHICLE IS STOPPED AND FUSE IS REPLACED. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER ON MY 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO FREEZES UP, AND DOES NOT INDICATE THE TRUE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE. I RECEIVED A LETTER OF RECALL/REPAIR FROM GM ADDRESSING THIS PROBLEM, BUT THE LETTER STATES THAT THEY WILL ONLY REPAIR THE PROBLEM IF THE VEHICLE IS LESS THAN 7 YEARS OLD OR HAS LESS THAN 70,000 MILES. HERE IS WHERE I HAVE A HUGE PROBLEM WITH THIS. WHEN I GOT THE LETTER FROM GM, MY TRUCK HAD 66,000 MILES ON IT. AT THIS TIME, THE SPEEDOMETER WAS WORKING FINE. THE LETTER STATES IN BOLD LETTERING " DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO THE DEALER UNLESS IT IS SHOWING SIGNS OF FAILURE". MY TRUCK DID NOT DEVELOP THIS ISSUE UNTIL IT REACHED 77,000 MILES. GM NOW REFUSES TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE SPEEDOMETER UNDER THE RECALL, BUT WANTS $600.00 TO REPLACE THE SPEEDOMETER. THERE IS NO WAY TO DETERMINE THE TRUE SPEED OF THE TRUCK, AND TO ME IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE FOR MY FAMILY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SECOND GEAR WAS NOT CATCHING AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE FAILURE WAS NOTICED WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH. THE CHEVROLET DEALER STATED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAD BEEN CUT OUT, WHICH WAS ILLEGAL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,535 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 120,640. UPDATED 09/10/08. *LJ
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. IN JULY 2008, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR ROTORS WERE COVERED WITH RUST CAUSING THE BRAKES TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE THE REAR ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED. IN SEPTEMBER 2011, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD GRINDING NOISE IN THE VEHICLE AND DROVE IT TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC TO BE SERVICED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE INSIDE OF THE ROTORS WERE RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE PRIVATE MECHANIC REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 44,451. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,120. UPDATED 10/21/11 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE INNER BRAKE PADS WERE DESTROYED BY RUST, BUT THE OUTER PADS WERE STILL LIKE NEW. UPDATED 01/03/12
BRAKE LINES RUPTURED CAUSING FAILURE OF BRAKING SYSTEM ON MY 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD. THIS TRUCK HAS ONLY 45,000 MILES ON IT. CHEVROLET TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS NORMAL WEAR. I THEN ASKED THEM IF IT WAS NORMAL FOR A PERSON WHO BOUGHT ONE OF THEIR VEHICLES TO EXPECT A LIFE ENDANGERING SITUATION AFTER ONLY 45,000 MILES, AND THEY SAID YES. THIS IS ON TAPE, AS THEY ASKED ME IF THEY COULD TAPE MY PHONE CALL, AND I AGREED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE SNAPPED IN HALF AND CAUSED THE MOTOR OF THE VEHICLE TO SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT THE CABLE SNAPPED AND SHORT CIRCUITED A FUSE, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO LOSE POWER. THE CONTACT RESEARCHED AND DISCOVERED A RECALL EXPLAINING THE SAME FAILURE. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE RECALL DID NOT APPLY TO HIS VIN. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT HIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED SINCE IT WAS AFFECTED BY THE DEFECT AS WELL. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 30,000. 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD 4X4 6.0L HAS A SPEEDOMETER THAT MALFUNCTIONS. GENERAL MOTORS IS SAYING THE PROBLEM LIES IN THE STEPPER MOTORS IN THE SPEEDOMETER CLUSTER ITSELF. GENERAL MOTORS IS NOT FIXING THIS PROBLEM ON THEIR VEHICLES FOR FREE. *TR
THE ABS SENSORS WERE REPLACED ON MY 2003 SILVERADO, UNDER THE RECALL. HOWEVER THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM, THE TRUCK CONTINUES TO NOT STOP WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. *TR
THE GAUGES HAVE A MIND OF THEIR OWN. IT STARTED WITH THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE AND NOW NONE OF THEM ARE WORKING. WENT TO A DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT IT WOULD COST OVER $500.00 TO REPLACE TO DEFECTED PART AND THAT GM ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY UP TO 70,000 MILES. WHY NOT A RECALL??? WITH AS MANY COMPLAINTS THAT ARE HERE, THEY SHOULD RECALL THIS PART AND STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS ESPECIALLY IF THEY WANT A BAIL OUT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IN JUNE 2008 WHILE DRIVING AT 5 MPH, THE ABS ACTIVATED AND THE VEHICLE SEEMED AS IF IT WOULD NOT STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE SENSORS AND SURFACE AREAS WERE TAKEN OUT AND CLEANED. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN A FEW WEEKS LATER AND BEGAN TO OCCUR EVERY TIME THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS ADVISED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK IN FOR REPAIR. HE WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT HE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL REPAIR COSTS AS THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS ADVISED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS ALSO GIVEN A CASE NUMBER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 20,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 42,500.
1. MY SILVERADO 2500HD, 2003 SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING AROUND 70K MILES, 3 YEARS AGO. 2. AT THE TIME I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE $525 TO FIX IT - REPLACING A SMALL PLASTIC GEAR IN THE DASH. I DECIDED NOT TO WASTE THE MONEY AND LIVED WITH IT. 3. IN JANUARY 2008, I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GM SAYING THE BROKEN SPEEDOMETER FOR MY TRUCK WAS A DEFECT AND IT WOULD BE FIXED AT NO CHARGE IF I WAS WITH IN 7 YEARS OLD AND 70K MILES. 4. I TOOK MY TRUCK INTO ESINGER CHEVROLET IN KALISPELL, MONTANA ON MAY 28, 2008. THEY REPAIRED THE SPEEDOMETER AND BILLED ME $414.85, ON 5. MY TRUCK HAD 118,735 MILES ON IT SO ESINGER WOULD NOT COVER IT UNDER THE RECALL PROGRAM. I WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST THAT GM RECONSIDER THIS DECISION SINCE THE SPEEDOMETER BROKE 3 YEARS EARLIER AND IT WAS AROUND 70K MILES. IT IS KNOWN THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE SPEEDOMETER AND I FEEL IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPAIRED AT NO CHARGE. YOUR CONSIDERATION OF CREDITING ME THE $414.85 WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED. I RECEIVED TICKETS FOR DRIVING OVER THE SPEED LIMIT. I FOUND OUT LATER IT WAS BECAUSE THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IN MY MODEL TRUCK WAS DEFECTIVE AND REGISTERING THE SPEED 10-15 MPH OVER ACTUAL. I CONSIDER THIS DEFECTIVE PART A SAFETY HAZARD TO MYSELF AND TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND REPORTED IT TO GM. THEN I FOUND OUT THAT GM HAD A RECALL OF THE THIS SAME PART OR INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IN MY MODEL OF TRUCK. I NEVER RECEIVED NOTICE OF THE RECALL NOR WAS I EVER INFORMED AT THE TIME OF SERVICE AT A GM DEALER THAT THERE WAS A RECALL. AFTER FINDING OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL OF THIS PART, I WENT TO THE GM DEALER FOR A REPLACEMENT BUT WAS THEN INFORMED THAT MY VEHICLE HAD PASSED THE MILEAGE LIMIT ON THE RECALLED PART AND THAT THEY (GM) WOULD NO LONGER HONOR THE DEFECTIVE PART. MY PROBLEM WITH GM IS THAT IF THIS DEFECTIVE PART IS A SAFETY HAZZARD THEN GM IS RESPONSIBLE TO REPAIR IT. I WAS INFORMED BY AN ATTORNEY, A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER AND A JUDGE THAT GM IS REQUIRED TO SUPPLY A SPEED OMETER THAT REGISTERS THE CORRECT SPEED WITHIN +-5 MPH. THIS DEFECTIVE PART IS OFF BY 10-15 MPH. I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT GM HAS REFUSED TO REPAIR AT NO CHARGE THOUSANDS OF SIMILAR TRUCKS WITH THE SAME DEFECTIVE PART. THIS PUTS NOT ONLY THE DRIVER OF THESE VEHICLES AT RISK BUT ALSO THE PUBLIC AT LARGE. A 10-15 MPH ERROR IN SPEED COULD BE DISASTEROUS IN A SCHOOL OR CONSTRUCTION ZONE. *TR

THE PAPER WORK SAYS GM BEGAN A SPECIAL COVERAGE CAMPAIGN ON 9-28-07 SO WHY ARE WE JUST NOW HEARING OF THIS. MY SPEEDOMETER WENT OUT AT 78K (MAY 4TH 2008)! HAD I RECEIVED THIS PAPERWORK THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER THIS LAWSUIT. AT THE TIME THEY (GM) DECIDED TO REPLACE THE SPEEDOMETER (SEPTEMBER 2007) I ONLY HAD 68K. THIS IS UNFAIR. THE DEALER KNOWS THEY SHOULD RECALL THEIR FAULTY PRODUCT, BUT ARE WILLING TO SETTLE IN A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT. THERE IS JUST ONE PROBLEM! MOST PEOPLE WHO HAVE A 2003 MODEL HAVE MORE THAN 70K ON THE VEHICLE. PROBLEM THESE BRAKES AND ROTORS HAVE NEVER BEEN REPLACED WITH 41000 MILES. HOW CAN THE ROTOR BE TO THIN TURN WHEN IT WAS NEVER TURNED BEFORE. DEALER STATED WILL HAVE TO BUY A $380 DOLLAR ROTOR OUT OF POCKET. CONTACTED CHEVROLET ASSISTANCE THEY STATED NOT COVERED ON MY EXTENDED GMPP WARRANTY. WE OWN TWO CHEVROLET VEHICLES THAT ARE EXPERIENCING THE ALL TOO COMMON PROBLEM WITH DEFECTIVE AND/ OR ERRATIC OPERATION OF SPEEDOMETERS. ONE IS A 2003 SILVERADO K-2500 H-D WITH APPROX 87,000 MILES. WE HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR 2 YEARS THIS MONTH, AND THE PROBLEM STARTED JUST AFTER BRINGING IT HOME. IT WAS BOUGHT USED, SO PROBLEM MAY HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR MUCH LONGER. THE SECOND IS A 2003 TAHOE LT WITH APPROX. 67,000 MILES. THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED USED ALSO; IN MAY 2008. THE SPEEDOMETER BEGAN MALFUNCTIONING IN FALL 2009. I HAD ONE INCIDENT ABOUT 6 MONTHS TO A YEAR AGO WHEN THE SPEEDOMETER IN MY VEHICLE FAILED TO READ PROPERLY. I LATER RECEIVED A LETTER FROM CHEVROLET STATING THERE WAS A DEFECT INVOLVING THE SPEEDOMETER. HOWEVER, THE MILEAGE ON MY VEHICLE (ABOUT 100K AT THAT TIME) WAS OVER THE 70K MAXIMUM FOR THE COMPANY TO REPAIR IT. I HAVE SINCE HAD IT HAPPEN SEVERAL MORE TIMES, OFF AND ON, DURING 2008. THE SPEEDOMETER STICKS, EXAMPLE: AT 30 MPH, THEN YOU HAVE TO SUBTRACT 30 MPH FROM WHATEVER IT REGISTERS TO GET YOUR ACTUAL SPEED. I CONTACTED THE 1-800 NUMBER FOR CHEVROLET. THEY OFFERED ME A $200 VOUCHER FOR OTHER "MAINTENANCE" AT THE DEALER, BUT REFUSED TO REPLACE THE SPEEDOMETER. I HAVE NOT HAD IT LOOKED AT BECAUSE I WILL BE CHARGED A DIAGNOSTIC FEE ON SOMETHING THAT THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO REPLACE. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE DEFECT IS IN THE PART, AND IS NOT DUE TO ANY NEGLECT ON MY PART. I DID TELL THE 1-800 CLERK TO SEND THE VOUCHER AFTER SHE TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NO OTHER RECOURSE.
