TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS LEAKING FLUID WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. HE STATED THAT THE TOP OF THE TRANSMISSION CASE WAS CRACKED. THE TRANSMISSION IS FINE, BUT THERE IS A STRESS CRACK ON THE OUTER CASE. THE REPAIR WILL COST ANYWHERE FROM $3,000 - $4,000 AND THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER. THE VIN, ENGINE SIZE, AND PURCHASE DATE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 94,000.
THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING,AS WELL AS THE RPM INDICATOR AT APPROX. 26,000 MILES DRIVEN ON THE PICKUP.. I HAVE LEARNED THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THIS DEFECT RATHER THAN A RECALL. I NEVER RECEIVED THE LETTER ADVISING ME OF THIS FROM GM, ALTHOUGH I OWNED THE PICKUP SINCE 2006. I STOPPED DRIVING THE PICKUP BECAUSE IT WAS NOT SAFE TO BE UNABLE TO ASCERTAIN HOW FAST I WAS I DRIVING. I LEARNED ABOUT THIS DEFECT WHEN I CALLED A DEALERSHIP TO DISCUSS THE REPAIR LAST MONTH, AS MY VEHICLE WAS NOT USABLE. I THEN CALLED GM AND THEY SAID THE EXTENDED WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THIS IS NOT FAIR, AND HAS RENDERED MY VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE WITHOUT A HIGH COST TO ME FOR THEIR DEFECTIVE PART. I REQUEST THAT THEY COVER THEIR DEFECT.
THE 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO HAS A DOCUMENTED DEFECT ON THEIR SPEEDOMETERS AND GAUGES AND REFUSE TO CORRECT THIS IF YOU DO NOT MEET A 7YR/70,000 WARRANTY PERIOD. THE ISSUE HAS BEEN REPORTED IN AS FEW AS 28,000 MILES TO OVER 150,000 MILES. THIS IS AN UNSAFE DEFECT REPORTED BY CHEVROLET THAT THE DO NOT RECOGNIZE AS NECESSARY TO COVER FOR EVERYONE. *TR

AIR CONDITIONER SHORTS OUT. WE HAVE HAD EVERY PANEL REPLACED TRYING TO FIX IT, BUT IT KEEPS HAPPENING. THERE IS ALSO A PROBLEM WITH THIS TRUCKS BRAKES ROTTING OUT AND BRAKE FAILURE. THIS HAPPENED 2/2013. THERE IS ALSO A PROBLEM WITH THE DRIVERS SEAT AND SEATBELT. BOTH HAVE COMPLETELY BROKEN IN THE TRUCK 5/2013. WE HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANY RECALL NOTICES FOR THIS TRUCK. *TR

THE MECHANIC STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HE SHOULD HAVE PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE CONTACT PLANS TO CALL THE CHEVROLET DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 40,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND WITH THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION, A PASSENGER TURNED THE KEYS ONE NOTCH. THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED OUT OF THE PARK POSITION, WHICH CAUSED IT TO ROLL FORWARD. THE PASSENGER DID NOT HAVE HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AT ANY POINT. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE IS ABLE TO DO THAT FOR TOWING PURPOSES. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 126,000. THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN PURCHASING THE VEHICLE HE WAS INFORMED YOU WOULD HAVE TO PUSH ON THE BRAKE IN ORDER TO TRANSMISSION OUT OF BRAKE POSITION AND WAS ALARMED TO FIND THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS THE ONLY VEHICLE THAT HAS THE DEFECT. THE CONSUMER STATED WOULD LIKE THE DANGEROUS DEFECT INVESTIGATE IT AS IT IS UNSAFE FOR NOT ONLY HIM BUT ALSO CHILDREN THAT COULD EASILY GET INTO THE VEHICLE AND MOVE THE IT. UPDATED 08/24/07 *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. WHEN THE CONTACT STARTED THE VEHICLE, SHE NOTICED THAT THE ABS WARNING INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL BECAME INOPERABLE AND SHE COULD NOT READ THE SPEEDOMETER AND OTHER GAUGES. THE DEALER REPLACED THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PANEL AT THE COST OF $1,383. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED AGAIN, INCLUDING THE FUEL GAUGE, SPEEDOMETER, AND WARNING LIGHTS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PANEL FAILED A SECOND TIME. THE REPAIR WOULD COST OVER $1,800. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,417 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 128,880.
AT APPROXIMATELY 50000 MILES I NOTICED AN OIL LEAK FROM THE TRANSFER CASE IN THE 2003 SILVERADO Z71. I TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER IN MY AREA, WHO DIAGNOSED IT AS A FAULTY TOP SEAL ON THE TRANSFER CASE, AND CHARGED ME $500 FOR THE REPAIR AS THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. TWO WEEKS LATER AND LESS THAN 1000 MILES I NOTICED THE SAME AREA WAS LEAKING. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER, AND THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME YOU HAVE PIN HOLES IN THE SIDE OF YOUR CASE. IT' WAS LIKE A FLAW IN THE CASTING. THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD CLEAN IT OFF AND APPLY A LAYER OF JB WELD EPOXY TO IT TO SEAL IT UP. HOWEVER, 3000 MILES LATER WAS STILL WAS LEAKING. AFTER A WEEK OF WAITING AND MISSING PHONE CALLS GM CUSTOMER CARE AND THE DEALER TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW TRANSFER CASE AND THEY WOULD GLADLY PAY HALF OF THE REPAIR, $875 WOULD BE MY HALF AS THE TRUCK WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. *AK
HAD FUEL IN OIL NEW INJECTORS REPLACED AND 5000 MILES LATER HAD TO REPLACE FUEL INJECTOR PUMP LEAKING ON BOTTOM. NOW TRUCK LOSE FUEL FROM FILTER AND HAS TO BE HAND PUMPED TO START TRUCK CAN SAT FOR DAYS AND BE OK OR MAY SAT FOR JUST COUPLE HOURS LOSE FUEL PRESSURE. HAVE ALSO HAD TO HAVE STEERING PUMP REPLACED. *TR
WHEN DOING 60 MPH THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE READS OVER A 100 MPH. YOU HAVE TO STOP AND START THE ENGINE SEVERAL TIMES TO GET IT RESET TO 0 MPH. I SPENT 2 WEEKS RESEARCHING THIS AND IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2003 CHEVY TAHOE. *TR
STEERING CONTINUES TO KNOCK. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE VEHICLE HAS FIRESTONE LT, SIZE 245/75/R16 TIRES. FIVE HOURS AFTER THE CONTACT PLACED AIR IN HER TIRE, THE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE AND CAUSED A BLOW OUT. SHE STATED THAT THE TIRE WAS INTACT, BUT THE THREAD WAS ALSO SEPARATED. THE DEALER SENT HER A LETTER STATING THAT THE TIRE EXCEEDED DEFLECTION. SHE CALLED TO INQUIRE ABOUT WHAT EXCEEDED DEFLECTION MEANT AND THE DEALER EXPLAINED THAT THIS REFERRED TO HER VEHICLE'S WEIGHT OVERLOAD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRE THAT WAS PLACED ON THE VEHICLE WAS A BRAND NEW SPARE TIRE. THE TIRE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED OR REPLACED. THE FAILURE CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER HAVE NOT OFFERED ANY ASSISTANCE. THE SPEED WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 89,890 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,900.
MY COMPLAINT IS ABOUT CHEVROLET, CAVALIER 2003. THE CAR JUST QUIT WHILE DRIVING, THANK GOD I WAS ONLY ONE ON ROAD. THE CAR ONLY HAD 57,000 MILES ON IT, AND I HAVE BEEN KEEPING UP WITH MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE; SUCH AS OIL CHANGES, TRANSMISSION FLUIDS, FILTERS, ETC. AFTER BEING TOWED TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND WAITING TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE A BAD FUEL PUMP. THIS COASTED ME $721.29, WHICH WAS VERY UNEXPECTED. WHAT AMAZED ME EVEN MORE WAS MANY MORE HAD SAME PROBLEM ONCE I SEARCHED IT ONLINE. TAKE A LOOK AT THIS WEBSITE. I HAVE A 03' CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 Z71 WITH 70,000 MILES. JUST RECENTLY I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER SHOWS 30MPH WHILE NOT MOVING. AT 60MPH IT REGISTERS OVER 120MPH. I FEEL THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE FIXED BY GM AT NO CHANGE. *TR
SPEEDOMETER AND ALL OTHER GAUGES ON INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DO NOT WORK PROPERLY THE SPEEDOMETER READS 120 MPH SOMETIMES, THE VOLT METER NEEDLE IS POINTING STRAIGHT DOWN, THIS IS ON MY 2003 SILVERADO, ON MY 2004 SUBURBAN THE TACHOMETER READS WRONG ALL THE TIME AND IM WORRIED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER WILL DO THE SAME ON IT, THIS IS THE PRIMARY VEHICLE MY WIFE AND KIDS USE EVERY DAY. *TR
POWER ASSIST TO THE STEERING WHEN TURNING LEFT CUTS OUT INTERMITTENTLY. THIS STARTED OCCURRING WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS ALMOST NEW AND STILL UNDER WARRANTY, BUT DIDN'T HAPPEN VERY OFTEN AND THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WHEN BROUGHT IN FOR WARRANTY REPAIRS. NOW THAT THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED, IT HAS GOTTEN MUCH WORSE. AT LOWER SPEEDS, ESPECIALLY UNDER 25 MPH, THERE IS OFTEN LITTLE OR NO POWER ASSIST TO THE STEERING. THIS MAKES IT ESPECIALLY DIFFICULT TO GO AROUND CORNERS AND MANEUVER IN PARKING LOTS. INTERNET SEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2000-2006 SILVERADO AND SIERRA PICKUPS, AS WELL AS TAHOES, SUBURBANS AND YUKONS. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT IN THAT THE POWER ASSIST CAN SUDDENLY CUT OUT WHEN GOING AROUND A CURVE OR CORNER, MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE ON COURSE AND AVOIDING STRIKING STATIONARY OBJECTS OR PEDESTRIANS. AS THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED, THE DEALER SAID IT WOULD COST ABOUT $1000 TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING RACK TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. TRUCK IS PARKED AND NOT BEING USED NOW, AS IT IS UNSAFE TO OPERATE UNTIL THIS ISSUE IS RESOLVED. *TR
LOUD NOISES COMING FROM STEERING SHAFT, REPAIRED TWICE UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
NOISE IN STEERING COMPONENTS. HAD SERVICED BY DEALERSHIP TWICE UNDER WARRANTEE THEY DID A GREASE PACK ON THE STEERING COLUMN AND IT WORKED FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS EACH TIME. MY NEPHEW WORKED FOR COLUMBUS OHIO DEALER AS MECHANIC HE TOLD ME TO CONTACT MY DEALER FOR SERVICE. HE ALSO STATED THERE WERE SEVERAL SERVICE BULLETINS OUT ON THIS REPAIR. WHEN I SPOKE TO THE DEALER WHERE PURCHESED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR REPAIRS. THIS IS A GM PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE RECALLED BY THEM. TRUCK NOW HAS 50,000 MILES ON IT AND THE PROBLEM FIRST STARTED AROUND 10,000 MILES. I HAD TRUCK TO AN ALIGNMENT SHOP WHERE THEY STATE TRUCK CAN NOT BE ALIGNED WITHOUT REPAIRS BEING MADE THEREFORE THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD.
FOUL SMELL FROM AIR VENTS DUE TO NO REPLACEABLE CABIN FILTER OR ACCUMULATION OF MOISTURE IN DUCTS OR A/C COILS. *TR
THERE IS A THUNKING SOUND THAT ORIGINATES SOMEWHERE IN THE STEERING MECHANISM. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT THE STEERING BOX JUST NEEDED TO BE REPACKED WITH GREASE. IT FEELS AS IF IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IT FEELS AS IF THE WHOLE STEERING MECHANISM IS GOING TO COME APART. I ORIGINALLY NOTICED THE PROBLEM AT 25000 MILES AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. THE NOISE CAME BACK IN ABOUT 12-15000 MILES. IT APPEARS FROM THE MESSAGE BOARDS AND TO PEOPLE THAT I HAVE TALKED TO THAT OWN THE SAME OR SIMILAR VEHICLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER ON MY 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION WITH LESS THAN 60,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. THE INDICATED SPEED WOULD SUDDENLY INCREASE FOR NO REASON AND WOULD NOT RECEDE WITH BRAKING OR WITH AN ACTUAL DECREASE IN SPEED TRAVELED. I COULD NOT RELY ON THE SPEEDOMETER ANYMORE AND BEGAN TO RELY ON THE TACHOMETER TO ESTIMATE SPEED OF TRAVEL. I RESEARCHED THIS ONLINE AND FOUND AN ABUNDANCE OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT FAILING SPEEDOMETERS FOR CHEVY SILVERADOS. A QUERY TO A DEALER INDICATES THE REMEDY IS A COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AT AN ESTIMATED COST OF $420.00. *TR
I OWN A 2003 SILVERADO LS HALF TON PICK UP TRUCK. THIS PAST WEEKEND, I WAS RETURNING FROM FT. WORTH, TX AND HAD MY CRUISE CONTROL SET ON 67MPH. I WAS STOPPED AND TOLD THAT I WAS CLOCKED AT 85MPH. AFTER MUCH ARGUMENT, THE OFFICER ALLOWED ME TO LEAVE, AND THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD NOT WORK AT ALL. APPARENTLY, WHILE THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS SET AT 67, THE SPEED HAD CREPT UP TO 85MPH. I DID NOT DRIVE MY TRUCK SUNDAY OR MONDAY, BUT WHEN I LEFT TO TAKE IT TO THE SHOP TUESDAY MORNING, THE SPEEDOMETER WAS WORKING FINE. MY MECHANIC CHECKED FOR ANY CODES AND IT TURNED UP AN IP CODE WHATEVER THAT MAY BE. CONSIDERING IT WOULD COST ABOUT $600.00 DOLLARS TO HAVE SOMETHING REPLACED THAT IS NOW WORKING, I ELECTED TO KEEP AN EYE ON IT. MY QUESTION IS, HOW CAN I TRUST THIS NOW? THIS CAN BE QUITE EXPENSIVE IF I AM ISSUED A CITATION, BUT MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE, IT IS A SAFETY PROBLEM. SOMEONE CAN UNKNOWINGLY BE GOING THAT FAST IS A VERY BIG LIABILITY TO YOUR COMPANY AND TO MY LIFE. IF THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM, THESE IP MODULES NEED TO BE RECALLED, THEY ARE A HAZARD. *TR
2003 CHEVROLET CAVALIER LS SPORT BROKE DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY NEEDING A FUEL PUMP AT 67000 MILES. A VERY EXPENSIVE JOB TO BE DONE SO EARLY IN THE CAR'S LIFE. *AK
ON MAY 20, 2007 AT 41,300 MILES, THE SPEEDOMETER, TACHOMETER, TEMPERATURE, OIL AND FUEL GAUGES STOPPED WORKING. THESE GAUGES WERE NOT DIGITAL, THEY WEREA MOVING DIAL/STICK. THE DIGITAL ODOMETER AND INSTRUMENT PANELS STILL WORK. ALL FUSES HAVE BEEN CHECKED AND NONE WERE BLOWN.*AK A GOOGLE SEARCH BY ME GAS UNCOVERED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS LIKE MINE AND TWO FEDERAL LAWSUITS BEING FILED RECENTLY IN WA AND OR.
FRONT BRAKE HOSE RUBBED AGAINST THE TIRE CAUSING A LEAK. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL OPERATES INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL IS NOT ILLUMINATED, THE CONTACT IS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE GEAR IN WHICH THE VEHICLE IS PLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY THE DEALER. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ANTILOCK BRAKES FUNCTION WHEN THE VEHICLE DECELERATED BETWEEN 4-15 MPH. WHEN HE APPROACHED A STOP SIGN, THE ANTILOCK SYSTEM ACTIVATED AND THE VEHICLE PULSATED FORWARD APPROXIMATELY 5-10 FEET. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON A REGULAR BASIS. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE ABS RECALL FOR THE VEHICLE DID NOT INCLUDE HIS VIN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 46,600 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 38,000. UPDATE 04-02-08 *BF
VEHICLE IS A CHEVY 2003 4X4 3500 DUALLY WITH APPROXIMATELY 87,000 MILES. SUDDEN AND COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING DUE TO CORRODED BRAKE LINE LEAK I SINCE HAD FIXED. WHILE BRAKING AT SLOW SPEEDS THE BRAKE PEDAL SLAMS TO THE FLOOR AND IN REVERSE THERE IS ALSO A LOUD CLUNK THAT SHAKES THE TRUCK. *TR
MY 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO Z71'S SPEEDOMETER QUIT WORKING AND STARTED GIVING ERRATIC READINGS SUCH AS 65 MPH WHILE GOING NO MORE THAN 10 MPH. AFTER STARTING, TURNING OFF, AND RESTARTING THE ENGINE ROUGHLY 10 TIMES THE SPEEDOMETER WENT BACK TO ZERO. NEXT TIME I DROVE, HOWEVER, IT STARTING ACTING UP AGAIN. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY PROBLEM. WE HAVE SPEED LIMITS FOR SAFETY REASONS AND IMAGINE DRIVING THROUGH A SCHOOL ZONE AND NOT BEING ABLE TO TELL HOW FAST YOU ARE GOING. THIS PROBLEM IS SO WIDESPREAD AND GM IS IGNORING IT. *JB
OWN A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 4WD - THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM REPEATEDLY ENGAGED AT SLOW SPEEDS, LESS THAN 10 MPH WHEN COMING TO A STOP, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO STOP. TRUCK WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE ,AND HAD TO HAVE REPAIRED. THIS WAS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT INITIATED A RECALL 05V37900 ON 2002 AND EARLIER MODELS. THIS SAME PROBLEM WAS NOW OCCURRING ON MY 2003 MODEL , BUT THIS WAS NOT COVERED BY ANY RECALL. MY TRUCK ONLY HAS 13,000 MILES. LAST SUMMER WHEN THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD 11,000 MILES THE ENTIRE BRAKE ASSEMBLY AREA RUSTED , LEADING TO REPLACEMENT OF ALL THE BRAKE ASSEMBLIES AND ROTORS. 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO Z71 SPEEDOMETER INDICATING 120 MPH WITH WITH ENGINE OFF. SPEEDOMETER WILL FUNCTION BETWEEN 90 MPH & PEGGED OUT"WHEN DRIVING. GM WILL NOT RECOGNIZE THIS AS A RECALL ITEM, AND LOOKING AT SOME ONLINE FORUMS THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR 2002 -2006 SILVERADOS. *AK
THE ABS MODULE FAILED, LEADING TO THE ABS PUMP RUNNING ALL THE TIME. *AK
I OWN A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO LT Z-71 AND THE SPEEDOMETER WILL GET STUCK IN THE MIDDLE WHILE AT STOP AND WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 55 WILL BE PEGGED OUT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND HE TOLD ME IT WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE ON RECALL. I FOUND AN ONLINE FORUM WITH SEVERAL HUNDRED DISGRUNTLED GM OWNERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, MOST OF THEM SAY THE REPAIRS COST AROUND $700 AND THE PROBLEM SOMETIMES REOCCURS. I AM A DIEHARD GM FANATIC AND HAVE OWNED SEVERAL AND EVERYTIME I HAD A PROBLEM IT WAS MINOR, BUT THIS IS NOT A MINOR PROBLEM. IN THE FORUM I FOUND THERE IS TALK OF A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT AND I WOULD HATE TO SEE THIS PROBLEM GO THAT FAR, WHEN A RECALL WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. I HAVE SEEN RECALLS ON ALOT MORE MINOR STUFF FROM GM, SO WHAT IS THE HOLD UP? I CANT AFFORD TO SPEND $700 TO FIX FAULTY WORKMANSHIP. THE TACHOMETER ALSO DOESN'T FUNCTION RIGHT, BUT THAT DOESN'T BOTHER ME AS MUCH AS THE SPEEDOMETER. I HAVE ALSO LEARNED THAT FUEL GUAGES MAY NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY EITHER AND THAT WORRIES ME BECAUSE MY WIFE USES THIS TRUCK AND HAS MY CHILDREN WITH HER MOST OF THE TIME AND WE LIVE IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE AND IF SHE RUNS OUT OF GAS SHE MAY NOT HAVE CELL SERVICE TO CALL SOMEONE AND THE THOUGHT OF MY WIFE, FIVE YEAR OLD DAUGHTER, AND INFANT SON WALKING DOWN THE HIGHWAY LATE AT NIGHT DOESN'T SIT WELL WITH ME. PLEASE DO THE RESPONSIBLE THING AND RECALL YOUR FAULTY EQUIPMENT. *AK
FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON I BEGAN LOSING COOLANT FLUID FROM MY SILVERADO TRUCK, BUT IT WAS NOT LEAKING OUT UPON THE GROUND. AFTER A MONTH OF THIS PROCESS, AND HAVING TO CONTINUALLY ADD COOLANT TO MY ENGINE, I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC I HAVE KNOWN FOR SEVERAL YEARS. THINKING IT WAS MOST LIKELY A BAD HEAD GASKET (WHICH I FOUND OUT WERE BEING ERODED AWAY FROM THE "COOLANT "ITSELF), WE REPLACED THE HEAD GASKET. LESS THAN ONE WEEK LATER, I AGAIN HAD TO ADD MORE COOLANT. AGAIN WE REMOVED THE HEADS AND INVESTIGATED THE PROBLEM. WHEN WE SEARCHED ONLINE MECHANICAL DATA BASES, WE DISCOVERED THAT MY TRUCK HAD BEEN FITTED WITH DEFECTIVE HEADS, PRODUCED FROM A PLANT IN MEXICO. WE EVEN DISCOVERED A GENERAL MOTORS MEMO REGARDING THE PROBLEM. THIS PLANT PRODUCED OVER 1.5 MILLION HEADS FOR VARIOUS VEHICLES. IT SEEMS THAT INFERIOR METAL PRODUCTS WERE THE REASON THE HEADS THEMSELVES WERE ALLOWING COOLANT TO BE SUCKED INTO THE CRANKCASE, COMPROMISING THE OIL, AND DAMAGING OR SEIZING UP THE ENGINE. I HAVE TALKED WITH SEVERAL SERVICE SHOPS,(GREASE MONKEY, JIFFY LUBE), AND HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS AN EVER GROWING PROBLEM, THE ONLY REMEDY OF WHICH IS TO TOTALLY REPLACE THE HEADS. THE EXPENSE TO THE CONSUMER,WHO DIDN'T INTEND TO PURCHASE A DEFECTIVE VEHICLE, RANGES FROM $1,800 TO $9,000 IN REPAIRS, AND MAY WELL EFFECT SOME SIX TO 800,000 VEHICLES ON THE ROAD. I SPOKE TO ONE WOMAN WHO WAS DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY WHEN HER ENGINE SEIZED UP. IT WAS A MIRACLE SHE DID NOT LOSE CONTROL WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS REGARDING SOME FORM OF COMPENSATION FOR MY EXPENSES, AND AS YOU WOULD EXPECT, THEY JUST BLEW ME OFF AND TOLD ME NO RECALL WAS BEING CONSIDERED. I HAVE NO IDEA IF THIS PLANT IN MEXICO IS PART OF THE NAFTA PROGRAM, BUT IT SURE SEEMS STRANGE THAT GM WANTS TO KEEP SOMETHING OF THIS MAGNITUDE SO QUIET, AND REMAIN SO UNCONCERNED OF PUBLIC SAFETY AND EXPENSE. I WOULD THINK A RECALL TO CURB THESE FAILURES WOULD BE THE VERY LEAST GM SHOULD OFFER. *TR
I OWN A 2003 C1500 CHEVROLET SILVERADO WHICH HAS APPROXIMATELY 57,000 MILES ON IT. ON THREE OCCASIONS IN THE LAST SIX WEEKS WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT POSTED SPEEDS THE SPEEDOMETER HAS GONE FROM APPROXIMATE 65 MPH, CORRECT READOUT, TO ANYWHERE BETWEEN 90-120 MPH. AFTER SITTING FOR 12 TO 36 HOURS THE SPEEDOMETER WILL READ CORRECTLY. THIS WAS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WHICH SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY GM. THIS PROBLEM WAS SO COMMON THAT I HAVE SEEN IT DISCUSSED ON THE NATIONAL NEWS SHOWS TWICE IN THE LAST WEEK. *AK
2003 CHEVROLET 2500HD 4X4 SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING AT 38,000 MILES. VEHICLE JUST OUT OF WARRANTY. READ FORUMS OF HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE HAVING SAME PROBLEM. GM SHOULD RECALL. THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. *AK

THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS ACTING UP, THEN THE SPEEDOMETER WAS SHOWING 20 WHEN I WAS STOPPED, THEN IT WOULD GO BELOW 0, AND NO FINALLY IT DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. I RECEIVED A LETTER SAYING CHEVY KNEW THIS WAS A PROBLEM BUT WOULD ONLY FIX IT IF THE TRUCK HAD LESS THAN 70,000 MILES AND WAS UNDER 7 YEARS OLD. *TR

TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO WITH 53,000 MILES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING THE STEERING COLUMN MADE A CLUNKING NOISE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AT ANY SPEED, BUT HAPPENED MORE WHILE DRIVING ON ROUGH ROADS. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, WHO LUBRICATED THE VEHICLE, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE FAILURE HAD BEEN OBSERVED THREE TIMES. THE NOISE HAD NOT EFFECTED THE MANEUVERABILITY OF THE VEHICLE. THE SPEEDOMETER IN 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO WAS NOT WORKING. IT MAKES EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF NOISE, AND GOT STUCK IN VARIOUS POSITIONS DURING ACCELERATION/ DECELERATION. MOVED BOTH DIRECTIONS IN A RATCHET MOTION.*AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH THE SPEEDOMETER AUTOMATICALLY INCREASED TO 120 MPH. HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS STILL DRIVING AT 25 MPH. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS FAILURE OCCURRED ON TWO OTHER OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH. HE DISCONNECTED THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE AND PARKED THE VEHICLE FOR TWENTY MINUTES. HE THEN REHOOKED THE CABLE AND THE SPEEDOMETER RESET ITSELF. THE CONTACT HAD TO PERFORM THIS ROUTINE EACH TIME THE SPEEDOMETER GOT STUCK AT 120 MPH. FROM THE NHTSA WEBSITE HE DISCOVERED THAT THISWAS AN ONGOING FAILURE WITH THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 28,144, AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,800.*AK
THE SPEED SENSORS FAILED ON MY 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO, NEARLY CAUSING A CRASH BECAUSE THE ABS SYSTEM CAME ON UNEXPECTEDLY. THE RECALL ONLY EXTENDS TO THE 2002 MODEL YEAR, AND GM WILL NOT FIX MY VEHICLE, EVEN THOUGH THIS CAUSED A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. GM DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS OR CARE ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. OVER 200 ACTUAL CRASHES HAVE BEEN REPORTED. I DROVE THE CAR HOME FROM A FRIEND'S HOUSE ABOUT 3 MILES TURNED IT OFF AND LOCKED IT USING THE REMOTE. WHEN I TRIED STARTING THE CAR ABOUT AN HOUR LATER , AFTER UNLOCKING IT USING THE REMOTE), THE CAR WOULD NOT START. IT SOUNDED LIKE IT WANTED TO START BUT JUST COULDN'T TURN OVER. LUCKILY, I HAVE A MECHANIC IN THE FAMILY THAT SUGGESTED A PROBLEM WITH THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM. THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED BY TURNING THE KEY TO THE ON POSITION FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES TO RESET THE SYSTEM. AS A RESULT I ENDED UP MISSING A VERY IMPORTANT MEETING. EVERY NOW AND THEN THE THEFT SYSTEM LIGHT ON DASHBOARD POPPED ON AND THEN EVENTUALLY WENT AWAY. I DIDN'T ALWAYS HAVE 10 EXTRA MINUTES TO SPARE JUST IN CASE THE CAR DECIDED TO DO THIS. *AK
STEERING COLUMN-I HAVE BEEN DRIVING MY 2003 Z71 FOR ABOUT 15 MONTHS AND THERE IS A TERRIBLE CLUNK FROM THE STEERING SHAFT. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT ON THE 2003 Z71 SILVERADO. THE MECHANIC STATED THERE ISN'T MUCH THAT CAN BE DONE TO FIX THE PROBLEM OTHER THEN REGREASE THE SHAFT; WHICH WILL ONLY QUITE THE CLUNK FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. WITH SO MANY COMPLAINTS FOR THIS FAILURE THIS SHOULD BE REPLACED COMPLETELY BY THE MANUFACTURER AT NO COST TO THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE. GM/CHEVROLET NEEDS TO MAKE THIS A RECALL ITEM AND FIX THEIR MISTAKE RATHER THEN CHARGE THE CUSTOMER FOR THIS REPAIR. *TR
