2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO SPEEDOMETER STICKS AT SPEEDS OVER 40 MPH. WHEN THE VEHICLE SLOWS DOWN, THE SPEEDOMETER DEVELOPS AN "OFFSET ZERO." I REALIZED THE PROBLEM HAD OCCURRED SLOWING TO A STOP LIGHT. THE MOST DIRE CONSEQUENCE WAS SLOWING TO TURN AFTER REALIZING THE PROBLEM HAD OCCURRED AND HAVING NO RELIABLE GAUGE AS TO MY TURNING SPEED. I NEVER REALIZED HOW MUCH I REFER TO MY SPEEDOMETER WHILE SLOWING UNTIL I ALMOST MISSED MY TURN ENTIRELY BECAUSE OF THIS FAILURE. I HAVE SINCE HAD THE DIGITAL INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER REPAIRED AT A COST OF $200, BY A NON-GM TECHNICIAN. *JB
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR ON MY 2003 SILVERADO HD2500. I CRASHED INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME CAUSING DAMAGE TO BOTH OUR VEHICLES. I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. AFTER 1.5 WEEKS THERE G.M FINALLY LOOKS AT IT AND TOLD ME THE BRAKE OPERATION WAS NORMAL. I STARTED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE HOME AND THE PEDAL ONCE AGAIN WENT TO THE FLOOR. I FOUND THE SERVICE MANAGER AND THE HIGHER UP PERSON SAY THAT'S NORMAL. NOW WHAT? I CANT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE FOR THE FEAR OF ANOTHER CRASH. GM IS NO HELP. *JB

I HAVE A 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO LS 1500 THAT THE SPEEDOMETER JUST STARTED READING 120 MPH NO MATTER WHAT SPEED I AM TRAVELING OR IF THE VEHICLE IS EVEN MOVING AT ALL. NO PREVIOUS DAMAGE OR FAILURES WERE PRESENT AT THE TIME OF THIS PROBLEM. GMC WANTS $500+ TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON TREND AMONG 2002-2004 SILVERADOS AND THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL. *JB
BOUGHT 2003 SILVERADO 3500 4X4 USED IN 2006. IT HAD 125,000 MILES AND RAN GREAT. IN OCTOBER 2006, THE SPEEDOMETER STARTED READING INACCURATELY THE OIL AND BATTERY CHARGE GAUGE ARE NOT ACCURATE EITHER. I CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY ISSUE. I RECEIVED A LETTER STATING, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL MAY BE DEFECTIVE. THE PROBLEM I HAVE IS THE MILEAGE. IT IS OVER THE MAXIMUM ALLOWED TO REPLACE THE CLUSTER. I HAVE OVER 200,000 MILES ON MY TRUCK. THE TRUCK RUNS GREAT AND I WOULD NOT THINK TWICE ABOUT TAKING LONG TRIPS(OVER 2,000 MILES) AS I DO BECAUSE OF MY WORK. I DON'T THINK THERE SHOULD BE A MILEAGE LIMIT AT ALL. THERE IS CLEARLY A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE CLUSTER. I THINK THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL PERIOD, NOT JUST A LETTER STATING THERE IS JUST A PROBLEM. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS AGAIN. THANKS D.H *TR
NORMAL 55-60 MPH DRIVE ON INTERSTATE TO WORK. SPEEDOMETER BEGAN TO STICK AT 45 MPH EVEN THOUGH VEHICLE WAS GOING FASTER. SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE NOW MOVES IN A JERKY FASHION SLOWLY UP & SLOWLY BACK DOWN. NOTICED ONLINE THAT SEEMS TO BE A RE-OCCURRING PROBLEM WITH 2003 CHEVROLET VEHICLES AND STILL NO RECALL. I WILL NOT PAY $1000 TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM FIXED. CHEVROLET NEEDS TO STEP UP AND ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR PROBLEM AND HAVE A RECALL. MY VEHICLE IS A 2003 CHEVROLET 2500HD CREW CAB 4X4. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 50 MPH, POWER STEERING WAS LOST AND BRAKING BECAME HARDER. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER AND POWER STEERING FLUID WAS REPLACED, BUT THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE RESIDENCE AND THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS REPLACED, THIS DID NOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THERE WAS A COLLAPSED HOSE. THE HOSE WAS REPLACED, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL, # 04V045000, REGARDING THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN.
ENGINE WILL FAIL TO START. SECOND TIME WITH PROBLEM 10/21/06. REPLACED FUSE TO CRANK RELAY FUSE BLOWS IMMEDIATELY. MADE THE TRUCK USELESS FOR SEVERAL DAYS MAKING TRAVEL TO WORK HECTIC. SAME FUSE CONTROLS TURN SIGNALS AS WELL. *NM
2003 CHEVY 2500HD TRUCK. BRAKE ROTORS "SEVERELY RUSTED" AS STATED BY DEALER. TRUCK ONLY HAS 37,500 MILES; BRAKE PADS ONLY MAKING CONTACT WITH 1/3 OF ROTOR SURFACE ON ALL 4 ROTORS. DEALER RESURFACED ROTORS BUT EXPECTS PROBLEM TO CONTINUE, WITH ALL 4 ROTORS NEED TO BE REPLACED IN NEAR FUTURE DUE TO POOR ROTOR QUALITY; WAS TOLD EVEN IF I REPLACED THE ROTORS, I'D STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN WITHIN 30K MILES. *NM
I'M CONCERNED ABOUT THE POOR QUALITY OF THE HITCH RECEIVERS IN THE SILVERADO 2500HD TRUCKS PUT ON THE STREET BY GM! I HAVE A '03, AND I'M GETTING A TT SOON. THE WELDS ARE RUSTY, AND LOOK AS THOUGH THEY MIGHT EVEN BE CRACKED! IF THIS RECEIVER BREAKS, AND I LIVE TO, I AM SUING GM. MY ATTY HAS A COPY AND PIC OF THE MAL-QUALITY RE THIS RECEIVER, AND INSTRUCTIONS TO GO FORWARD. IT SURE WOULD BE NICE IF GM COULD FIND IT IN THEIR ETHICAL COMPASS TO REPAIR/REPLACE THESE WITHOUT HAVING TO BE SPANKED ABOUT IT FIRST. *NM
SPEEDOMETER IS ACTING UP AND GIVING ME WRONG READINGS WHILE DRIVING. IT RESTS AT ABOUT 75 MPH WHILE I AM PARKED, AND WHILE DRIVING SOME TIMES GOES AS HIGH AS 125+ MPH WHEN I AM CLEARLY GOING 60-70. 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO WITH 51,000 MILES. NOTHING SIGNIFICANT HAPPENED TO MAKE THIS PROBLEM HAPPEN, AS I WAS JUST DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WHEN IT OCCURRED. THE SPEEDOMETER ON MY 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO MALFUNCTIONS FROM TIME TO TIME. AFTER HAVING BEEN DRIVEN FOR AND HOUR OR SO IT WILL REGISTER THE SPEED AT WHICH IT WOULD REMAIN AT THE MOST, FOR INSTANCE IF I HAD BEEN TRAVELING AT 70 MPH AND CAME TO A DEAD STOP IT WOULD STILL REGISTER 70 MPH. ALSO WHEN IT DOES NOT STICK IT WILL ACT LIKE IT IS TRYING TO STICK AND DROP FIVE OR SO MILES AT A TIME INSTEAD OF DECREASING AT A STEADY PACE. WHEN THIS FAILURE OCCURS THERE IS NO WAY FOR ME TO DETERMINE MY SPEED. *NM
SPEEDOMETER IN MY 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO STOPPED WORKING. READS 120 MPH ALL THE TIME. PRICED A REPAIR AT 500 DOLLARS. WHICH INCLUDES PARTS AND LABOR. I UNDERSTAND FROM DOING A LITTLE RESEARCH THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE THIS PROBLEM, AND NOT JUST ON 03'S. 2004'S ALSO. SOMETHING WRONG WITH A 500 DOLLAR REPAIR ON A 2 TO 3 YEAR OLD TRUCK. PURCHASED NEW IN 2003, CHEVY SIVLERADO 1500, AT 40,000 MILES, PASSENGER SIDE HEATED MIRROR CRACKED AND BOTH HEATED MIRRORS NO LONGER WORK. AT ABOUT 88,000 MILES SPEEDOMETER IS JUMPING AND STICKING, WILL NOT RETURN TO ZERO, CANNOT READ TRUE SPEED. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR MONTHS NOW. *NM

TRANSFER CASE FAILED CAUSING FAILURE OF SLIP JOINT AND PROPELLER SHAFT. *JB

MY 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO TRUCK STARTED MAKING A LOUD GRINDING NOISE FROM THE REAR WHEEL. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 28,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS ONLY BEEN USED FOR TRANSPORTATION OF PASSENGERS AND LIGHT HAULING ON OCCASION. I PULLED THE REAR WHEELS AND NOTICED THE BRAKE ROTORS AND CALIBERS EXCESSIVELY RUSTED TO THE POINT THAT THE SHOES WHERE NOT CONTACTING THE ROTOR. THE LOCAL GM DEALER TOLD ME IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY( LEN STOLER CHEVROLET IN WESTMINSTER MD.) I REPLACED THE REAR PADS AND HAD THE ROTORS TURNED DOWN AND ALSO REPLACED BOTH REAR CALIBERS WITH NEW ONES AND STILL THE NOISE IS THERE. ALSO THE BRAKE PEDAL IS VERY SOFT AND ALMOST GOES COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR EVEN AFTER NUMEROUS BEEDINGS OF THE CALIBERS . THERE IS NO AIR COMING OUT OF THE BLEEDERS. THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES APPARENTLY DON'T WORK BECAUSE THE WHEELS LOCK UP AND SLIDE WHEN YOU PRESS HARD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE WHEN IT COMES TO THESE BRAKE PROBLEMS. THE BRAKES STILL DON'T FUNCTION PROPERLY AND NOBODY CAN TELL ME HOW IT CAN BE FIXED PROPERLY SINCE IT CLEARLY IS A ENGINEERING DESIGN FAULT BY GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO GET HURT OR EVEN KILLED WITH THESE FAULTY BRAKES BEFORE GM IS HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR FAULTY PRODUCT? THIS VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LENSTOLER CHEVROLET UNDER WARRANTY FOR THE BRAKE PEDAL GOING TO THE FLOOR ON 10JUN2005, WHERE THEY REPLACED BOTH REAR ROTORS BECAUSE THEY WHERE RUST PITTED AND OUT OF ROUND WITH JUST 20,136 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. *NM
SPEEDOMETER STICKS, DISPLAYS INCORRECT SPEED. UNABLE TO DETERMINE CORRECT SPEED. HAVE NOT FIXED YET. HAPPENED 1 WEEK AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED. *JB

GM HAD A INJECTOR PROBLEM (RECALL ) IN 2006. THEY REPLACED MINE ON SEPT,27 2006. ON MAY 21 20013 I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM IN WHICH GM CONVEYS THEY CAN'T FIX IT AGAIN. THE MILEAGE ON MAY, 21 WAS 84362, JUST ABOUT HOW LONG THE OTHERS LASTED. I WAS TOLD FROM MY LOCAL GM DEALER THAT THEY ARE SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM (THOUSANDS). I JUST WAITED TO PASS MY GRIEF ALONG TO LET SOMEONE ELSE KNOW HOW YOU ARE TREATED BY ONE OF THE COMPANIES THAT WE BAILED OUT WITH OUR MONIES. *TR
A POPPING NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN TURNING. DEALER REPLACED PART UNDER WARRANTY AND WAS INFORMED TODAY THAT IT IS BAD AGAIN. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAVE NOT FIX PROBLEM FROM GM AND THAT ALL THEY DO NOW IS TAKE A NEEDLE AND FILL WITH GREASE. *JB
TRANSFER CASE FAILURE DUE TO FAULTY DESIGN. OIL PUMP IN TRANSFER CASE RUBS A HOLE IN THE CASE AND DUMPS ALL THE LUBRICANT ON THE HIGHWAY. THEN THE CASE ENDS UP DESTROYING ITSELF. HUNDREDS OF THESE FAILURES ARE OCCURRING. MINE HAPPENED AT 83,000 MILES. *TR
OCT 2005, HAD TO REPLACE THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL BEARING HUB ASSEMBLY ON MY 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO. SEPTEMBER 2006, THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BEARING/HUB ASSEMBLY IS GOING BAD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I DO NO OFF ROADING AND HAVE ONLY USED 4WD ABOUT 3 TIMES DURING THE WINTER.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE BRAKING, THE ABS ENGAGED WHEN THE VEHICLE PAST 10 MPH. ACCOMPANIED BY A SOUND LIKE AIR ESCAPING FROM THE BRAKE, THIS CAUSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PULSATE, AND EXTENDED THE STOPPING DISTANCE OF THE VEHICLE. A SERVICE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND AN APPOINTMENT WAS MADE.
WHILE DRIVING HOME DURING A RAIN STORM MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS STARTED TO MALFUNCTION. I HAD THEM ON AN INTERMITTENT SPEED AND THEY ALL OF SUDDEN WENT TO HIGH. ONCE I WAS HOME. I ATTEMPTED TO TURN MY WIPERS OFF AND THEY ONLY WENT TO LOW. I AM UNABLE TO TURN MY WIPERS OFF I HAD TO REMOVE THE FUSE. IF I NEED MY WIPERS I MUST PUT THE FUSE BACK IN. I AM WORKING NOW TO DETERMINE IF IT IS THE MULTIPLE FUNCTION SWITCH THAT HAS GONE BAD. UPON LOOKING UP DATA ABOUT MY VEHICLE ON LINE I FOUND TRUCKS DATING BACK TO THE MID 90'S WITH THE SAME ISSUE. *NM
MY SPEEDOMETER IS MALFUNCTIONING. THIS WAS FIRST POINTED OUT BY AN IDAHO STATE TROOPER WHEN I WAS PULLED OVER WITH MY FAMILY IN THE TRUCK PULLING A TRAILER. MY SPEEDOMETER READ 60 BUT I WAS CLOCKED AT 79 MPH. THIS LAST WEEKEND ON A TRIP TO DOWN I-5 IN CALIFORNIA, I WAS DOING WHAT THOUGHT WAS 70 MPH BUT I WAS PASSING A LOT OF CARS AND WHEN I REMEMBER THE ISSUE MY TACHOMETER READ 3500 RPM WHICH MEANS I WAS DOING 80 PLUS. THEN YESTERDAY (10/22/2006) MY SPEEDOMETER READ 10 MPH WHEN MY TACH INDICATED 2100 RPM (~62 MPH), WHICH WAS CONFIRM BY BY WIFE FOLLOWING IN ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM IS INCONSISTENT. THE SPEEDOMETER SEEMS TO WORK FOR A WHILE BUT THEN DEGRADES AND THE SPEED INDICATED DOES NOR REFLECT THE ACTUAL SPEED. BETWEEN THE INITIAL OCCURRENCE AND 10/20 I DID NOT MAKE ANY TRIPS LONGER THAN 20 MINUTES AND DID NOT NOTICE A PROBLEM EXCEPT FOR A SOMEWHAT JERKY SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE. THE SPEEDOMETER SEEMS TO "RESET" AFTER THE VEHICLE STOP FOR A WHILE. ESTIMATED COST OF REPAIR IS $98-$105 "EVALUATION AND $550-$600 ACTUAL REPAIR WHICH INCLUDES PARTS AND LABOR. *NM
THE FRONT SPRINGS ON 2003 CHEVROLET 1500 SILVERED QUAD CAB TRUCKS ARE COLLAPSING AND GMC/CHEVROLET KNOWS ABOUT PROBLEM AND SAYS IT THE OWNERS RESPONSIBLE TO FIX THEIR MISTAKE IN DESIGNING AND ENGINEERING THE TRUCK. THEY SENT OUT A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN TO ALL DEALERS ABOUT PROBLEM AND SAYS IT THE OWNERS NEED TO PAY $18.00 DOLLARS FOR RUBBER BUSHING TO PUSH UP SPRING AND 380.00 IN LABOR .IT NOT THE COMPANY'S FAULT. I THINK THEY NEED A RECALL AND REPLACE THE SPRINGS WITH HEAVY DUTY SPRINGS AT THEIR COST NOT THE OWNERS COST. *NM
I HAVE A 2003 K1500 CHEVROLET SILVERADO WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION THAT HAS A SEVERE CLUNKING NOISE WHEN SHIFTING BETWEEN 2 AND 3 GEAR. CHEVROLET ACKNOWLEDGES THE CLUNKING SOUND AND GAVE ME A DOCUMENT ID#1828818 WHICH STATES THEY HAVE A PROBLEM BUT NO SOLUTION. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER I PURCHASED THE TRUCK FROM AND ANOTHER LOCAL DEALER SINCE WITH MY FIRST VISIT ON 12/17/04 AT 14444 MILES WITH THE CLUNKING NOISE PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY BOTH DEALERS ON EVERY VISIT THAT CHEVROLET WILL NOT REPAIR NOR REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. PLEASE HELP. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. LAST FALL, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH IN THE RAIN, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD ONLY OPERATE AT HIGH SPEED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WASHER WOULD NOT PUMP FLUID AS WELL. AS OF LATE, THE FAILURE HAS WORSENED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE CONTACT NEEDED TO PAY FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. A LOCAL MECHANIC STATED THAT THE COMPUTERIZED CONTROL FOR THE WASHER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE COST FOR PARTS AND LABOR WOULD BE $500. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 30,150 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000. UPDATED 12/12/07
WHEN CHANGING OIL FOUND VERY CORRODED BRAKE LINES, STARTED DOUSING WITH USED, OIL HASN'T HELPED. UNDER TRUCK TODAY 2013 EVERYTHING IS CORODED 70,000 MILES. *JS
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THERE WAS MOISTURE ON THE BRAKES, THE BRAKES WOULD NOT GRAB PROPERLY. THE CONDITION WORSENED WHILE TOWING ANY LOAD. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE CALIPER ROD CORRODED DUE TO THE VEHICLE BEING LOCATED IN A SALT BELT STATE. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE CALIPER BRACKETS, PADS, AND ROTORS. THE PROBLEM PERSISTED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH AND UNDER NORMAL BRAKING CONDITIONS, THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE IN THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE. AT THE LAST SECOND, THE BRAKES PULSATED AND THE PEDAL BECAME HARD TO DEPRESS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE.
I HAVE A 2003 SILVERADO TRUCK THAT HAS ONLY 24,000 MILES ON IT AND CHEVY SAID THE WARRANTY WAS OUT AND MY TRUCK HAD TO HAVE BRAKES AND NEW ROTORS PUT ON THIS WEEK. I FELL THIS IS NOT RIGHT AND THEY SHOULD HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THIS TRUCK FOR ME. *JB
I HAVE A 2003 SILVERADO AND THE BATTERY FAILED. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH ON DIRT ROAD AND ASPHALT, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE SHOOK AND PULLED TO THE LEFT. THIS WAS ACCOMPANIED BY A CLUNKING SOUND FROM UNDER THE FRONT END. DURING THIS INCIDENT, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DISPLAYED INCORRECT INFORMATION ON EVERY GAUGE. THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT PROPERLY,EITHER. THE VEHICLE BECAME LOCKED IN SECOND GEAR, AND WAS UNABLE TO BE SHIFTED OUT. FINALLY, THE BRAKES ON THE VEHICLE WERE SPONGY, CAUSING AN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE FROM ANY SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER WHERE IT AWAITS A DIAGNOSIS.
SLOWLY (10 MPH) PULLED INTO STREET, TRAFFIC HAD ALREADY STOPPED. I STEPPED ON BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR. VEHICLE BARELY STOPPED, I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO HIT THE ALREADY STOPPED VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. IF THIS HAD BEEN AN ATTEMPT TO STOP FROM THE SPEED LIMIT I WOULD HAVE HIT THE OTHER VEHICLE IN THE REAR. I WOULD HATE TO THINK WHAT COULD HAPPEN IF IT HAD BEEN AN EXPRESSWAY OR INTERSTATE INSTEAD OF A LIGHT TRAFFIC SITUATION IN A SMALL TOWN AT VERY LOW SPEED. DEALER HAS CHECKED THE 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 TRUCK COMPUTER FOR CODES AND SAID THEY FOUND NO CODES AND THE BRAKE FLUID IS FULL, COULD NOT DUPLICATE; THUS, THE BRAKES NEED NO FURTHER EXAMINATION OR REPAIR. THIS EVENT, ALTHOUGH THE FIRST TO OCCUR, OCCURRED AT AN OPTIMUM TIME WHEN LOW SPEED WAS INVOLVED. THIS LEAVES ME FAITHLESS IN THE ABILITY OF THE TRUCK TO STOP WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES. WILL THE EVENT OCCUR AGAIN AND WHEN????????? *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END COLLISION WITH A SEMI TRUCK. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SALVAGE YARD WHERE IT WAS DEEMED DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE CRASH DID NOT FIT THE QUALIFICATIONS FOR AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED NECK INJURIES AND FRACTURES IN THE MIDDLE AND LOWER PORTIONS OF THE BACK, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION AND SURGERY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 103,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE, EXCESSIVE PRESSURE HAD TO BE APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO DETERMINED THE BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS WERE RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS LOCATED IN A SALT BELT STATE. THE ROTORS AND PADS WERE REPLACED.
I OWN A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. IN AUGUST 2006 MY OIL PRESSURE GAGE STARTED TO MALFUNCTION. IT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY READ NO OIL PRESSURE EVEN THOUGH THE OIL LEVEL WAS ADEQUATE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE FOR A FUEL SYSTEM SERVICING TO A GM DEALER IN SAN ANTONIO TX AND ASKED THEM TO CHECK THE OIL PRESSURE PROBLEM. THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THE PROBLEM WAS A PRESSURE SWITCH. I ASKED IT TO BE REPAIRED ALONG WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM SERVICING. AT THE TIME MY VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 65,000 MILES. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT FAILED TO ATTEMPT A REPAIR ON THE OIL PRESSURE GAGE EVEN THOUGH THE OTHER ITEMS WERE REPAIRED. I ELECTED NOT TO LET THEM KEEP MY VEHICLE LONGER TO AFFECT THE REPAIR. APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTHS LATER I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALER AND ASKED IT TO BE REPAIRED. THE SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED ME THE ACTUAL PROBLEM WAS THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. IT WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $700 TO REPLACE. I ELECTED NOT TO HAVE IT REPLACED DUE TO THE COST. AT THIS TIME MY VEHICLE HAD 71,000 MILES. IN THE SUMMER OF 2007 MY SPEEDOMETER STARTED TO MALFUNCTION BY DISPLAYING THE WRONG SPEED OR STICKING AT ZERO. I AGAIN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO AGAIN SAID IT WAS THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. SHORTLY AFTER, I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GM STATING THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE AND IT WOULD REPLACE OR REPAIR THE MALFUNCTION FREE OF CHARGE ON ANY VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 70,000 MILES. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL GM DEALER TO SEE IF MY VEHICLE COULD BE REPAIRED UNDER THIS SINCE IT ORIGINALLY MALFUNCTIONED WHEN THERE WAS LESS THAN 70,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE SERVICE MANAGER CONTACTED GM AND THEN TOLD ME THEY WOULD NOT SINCE MY VEHICLE HAS MORE THAN 70,000 MILES AND GM DOES NOT CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY ISSUE. MY VEHICLE CURRENTLY WILL NOT PASS A STATE OF TEXAS SAFETY INSPECTION BECAUSE THE SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT WORK. I AM MAKING A COMPLAINT BECAUSE I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE A FULL RECALL. *TR
LEFT TURN SIGNAL CAUSES THE TURN SIGNALS TO ACT AS HAZARD SIGNALS PREVENTING OTHER DRIVERS FROM KNOWING THE TRUCK IS TURNING LEFT. THERE IS A KNOW RECALL COERING THIS ISSUE WITH 03 SUVS AND TRUCKS, BUT CHEVY STATES IT DOES NOT EFFECT MY TRUCK. HERE IS THE RECALL FROM THE INTERNET." ON CERTAIN TRUCKS AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, THE DRIVER WISHING TO SIGNAL A TURN BY MOVING THE DIRECTIONAL SIGNAL LEVER, (UP OR DOWN) MAY CAUSE THE FRONT MARKER/TURN LIGHTS AND REAR TURN LIGHTS TO FLASH IN A MANNER SIMILAR TO HAZARD WARNING, RATHER THAN FLASHING ON THE DESIRED SIDE ONLY. DEFECT CONSEQUENCE: THE DRIVER MAY NOT BE ABLE TO CLEARLY SIGNAL THEIR INTENTIONS TO TURN, CHANGE TRAVEL LANES, OR POTENTIALLY WARN OTHERS OF AN IMPAIRED VEHICLE OPERATING CONDITION INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. REMEDY: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE SUSPECT FLASHER MODULES WITH A NEW FLASHER MODULE DESIGNED WITH SEALED RELAYS AND MORE DURABLE CONTACT MATERIAL INSIDE OF THE RELAYS FREE OF CHARGE. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, UPON ATTEMPTING A LEFT TURN THERE WAS A CLUNKING NOISE FROM THE STEERING WHEEL AND STEERING SHAFT PITMAN AREA. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO REPLACED THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT KIT. AFTER THE REPAIR, THE STEERING NOISE CEASED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.
FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS ON CHEVY SILVERADO 2 WHEEL DRIVE PREMATURE WEAR OUT. COST $700 TO REPLACE. VOSS CHEVY DIAGNOSED PROBLEM. I WAS INFORMED AT A TIRE STORE BEFORE VOSS CONFIRMED IT. I WAS TOLD AT TIRE STORE IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM ON 2003 &2004 TRUCKS CHEVY DENIED HELP. I WENT TO ANOTHER GARAGE TO HAVE IT DONE FOR $500. THIS WORKS WITH ABS BRAKES IS WHY SO EXPENSIVE. *JB
LOW SPEED ABS ACTIVATION ON 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. GM - WAKE - UP. THERE IS A NONCONFORMING ITEM IN THE ABS SYSTEM. FIX YOUR PROBLEM. I HAVE PUT IN A NEW UNIT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE, HOWEVER, THIS HAS NOT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. I WILL TRY THE PASSENGAR SIDE NEXT. I WILL SUBMIT MY COST TO GM TO GET MY MONEY BACK.
2001 SILVERADO HAD CLUNKING AT LOW SPEED TURNS. DEALER PACKED GREASE AND ORDERED NEW STEERING BOX. NEVER CAME IN. PURCHASED 2003 HD SILVERADO. AT 50,000 THE CLUNKING AT LOW SPEED TURNS IS STARTING. YOU CAN HEAR AND FEEL THE PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL. IS THERE A DEFECT IN CHEVROLET STEERING ASSEMBLIES? *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED, AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING COLUMN MADE A CLUNKING SOUND. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM. DURING EACH VISIT, THE STEERING COLUMN HAS BEEN LUBED. THE NOISE RETURNS EVERY TIME.
THE BRAKES (ROTORS AND PADS) NEED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF DELAMINATED AND CORRODED. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK NEW AND ONLY HAVE 22,352 MILES ON IT, AND THIS WILL BE THE FOURTH TIME THIS TRUCK NEEDS BRAKES. I DID NOT KEEP OLD PARTS, BECAUSE THE WORK WAS PERFORMED BY A CHEVROLET DEALER. *TR
ANTILOCK BRAKES ACTIVATE EVERY TIME I STEP ON THE BRAKES. THIS RESULTED IN SEVERAL NEAR MISSES FOR COLLISIONS. *NM
THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ACTIVATE AT LOW SPEEDS WITHOUT WARNING. THEY ACTIVATE ON DRY SURFACES WITHOUT ACTUAL WHEEL 'LOCK-UP' OCCURRING. I HAVE COME CLOSE TO COLLISIONS AT INTERSECTIONS AND ALSO NEARLY ROLLED INTO AN INTERSECTION WHEN THE TRAFFIC LIGHT WAS RED IN MY DIRECTION WITH TRAFFIC PROCEEDING AT A RIGHT ANGLE TO MY VEHICLE. *NM
