DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, RAN FOR 10 SECONDS AND STALLED COMPLETELY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SERVICE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE OR DETERMINE THE PROBLEM.
I HAD THE TRANSMISSION FLUID FLUSHED AND FILTER CHANGED AND THE MECHANIC TELLS ME THERE WAS A LOT OF METAL PARTICLES IN THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FELT THERE WAS AN IMPENDING FAILURE. THE CHEVY DEALER TOLD ME TO WAIT TO SEE WHAT OCCURS SINCE HE HAD NOT HEARD OF AN ALLISON TRANSMISSION FAILING AT 50,000 MILES WHICH IS WHERE THE MILEAGE WAS AT WHEN I HAD THE ABOVE SERVICE DONE. IT SEEMS TO DRIVE FINE BUT I AM VERY CONCERNED. I HAVE A DURAMAX ENGINE WITH THE ALLISON TRANSMISSION BOUGHT IN 2003 OF A 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO DIESEL 2500HD. LITTLE TOWING DONE WITH THE VEHICLE SO THAT IS NOT THE CAUSE. *NM
I HAVE A 2003 CHEVY K3500 SILVERADO TRUCK, WITH ABOUT 60,000 MILES. AS OF DECEMBER 2010, I HAVE SUFFERED TWO BRAKE LINE FAILURES DUE TO CORROSION, WHEREIN A STEEL RIGID BRAKE LINE RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH, RESULTING IN BRAKE LOSS. I LIVE IN OHIO, AND SALT IS USED ON ROADS, HOWEVER, IN MY 30 YEARS OF DRIVING, I HAVE NEVER HAD ANOTHER VEHICLE, REGARDLESS OF AGE OR MILES, WHICH SUFFERED A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE STEEL BRAKE LINES. IN BOTH CASES OF FAILURE, I WAS LUCKY IN THAT I WAS NOT IN A HEAVY PRESSURE SITUATION, AND LUCKILY AVOIDED ACCIDENTS. I HAVE NOW LARGELY REPLACED THE ENTIRE BRAKE LINE INFRASTRUCTURE OF THE TRUCK, AT CONSIDERABLE PERSONAL TIME AND EXPENSE, HOWEVER, PROBLEMS STILL INCLUDE THE FACT THAT CORROSION CONTINUOUSLY AFFECTS THE PERFORMANCE OF THE FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSORS AS THEY INPUT TO THE ABS SYSTEM. THEY CONSTANTLY FAIL TO SENSE WHEEL SPEED AT LOWER SPEEDS WHICH RESULTS IN ERRONEOUS ACTIVATION OF THE ABS ACTION. THE SENSORS WERE REPLACED ONCE AT 30,000 MILES, AND THEY LASTED ABOUT 15,000 MILES BEFORE GOING BAD AGAIN. THIS COMPARES TO A 2004 TOYOTA SIENNA MINIVAN WHICH WAS SOLD A FEW MONTHS AGO AT 215,000 MILES WITH ZERO PROBLEMS, BOTH WITH RESPECT TO STEEL BRAKE LINE INTEGRITY AS WELL AS ABS SENSOR INTEGRITY. I CONSIDER THE BRAKE SYSTEM ON THE 2003 SILVERADO TRUCK TO BE OF VERY QUESTIONABLE INTEGRITY. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED, ON JULY 14, 2006 THE BATTERY FAILED AND LEAKED SULFURIC ACID ONTO THE GARAGE FLOOR. TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM, THE DEALER REPLACED THE BATTERY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYED AN INACCURATE READING OF 180 MPH WHILE DRIVING AT LOWER SPEEDS. THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT AND PROGRESSED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DETERMINE THE SPEED RATE WITH THE TACHOMETER AND GPS NAVIGATIONAL SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
REAR TAIL LIGHT FILLS WITH WATER AND FOGS UP CAUSING LIGHTS TO NOT BE SEEN GOOD...*NM
2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO HD, EVERY YEAR SINCE I HAVE HAD THIS TRUCK, I HAD TO HAVE THE STEERING GEAR BOX SHAFT SECTOR LUBED AND ONCE REPLACED. JUST HAD THIS DONE AGAIN TWO DAYS AGO. THIS IS AN IRRITATING PROBLEM SINCE WHEN IT IS GOING BAD OR NEEDS LUBED, IT HAS A CLUNKING NOISE IN THE FRONT END AND DON'T KNOW WHETHER THIS IS A SAFETY FACTOR OR NOT. SO FAR I HAVE BEEN LUCKY AND NOT HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR BUT HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT IF IT HAPPENS OVER A YEAR AFTER LAST REPAIR, I WILL BE RESPONSIBLE. THIS IS A FACTORY DEFECT AND I DON'T BELIEVE ANYONE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE IT DONE. I HAVE HAD OTHER CHEVY'S AND OTHER MAKES OF TRUCKS AND HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. *JB
2003 CHEVY K1500 HD HAS HAD CONTINUING PROBLEM WITH KNOCKING NOISE FROM STEERING COLUMN. ALREADY HAVE TAKEN IT IN ONCE AND A "REPAIR" AT THE DEALERSHIP WAS PERFORMED BUT I DO NOT KNOW WHAT THAT CONSISTED OF...THEY CLAIM THEY REPLACED THE PART BUT IT IS NOT 26,000 MILES LATER AND ITS DOING IT AGAIN WORSE THAN BEFORE. *JB
TACHOMETER AND SPEEDOMETER NEEDLES SWEPT FULL RANGE AND ENGINE LOST ALL POWER WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY. IF THIS HAPPENS IN A INTERSECTION DURING A START OR WHILE YIELDING, I FEAR AN ACCIDENT. NO REPAIR HAS BEEN DONE BECAUSE THE POWER CAME BACK. IT HAS NOT HAPPENED AGAIN. *NM
I HAVE A 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 HD THAT HAS PROBLEMS WITH THE SPEEDOMETER, BATTERY, FUEL, AND TEMP. GAUGES. IF THAT'S NOT A SAFETY PROBLEM, WHAT IS. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE LIKE MY SELF THAT CANNOT AFFORD THE REPAIRS. THINK ABOUT IT THOUSANDS COMPLAINING OF THE SAME PROBLEM BUT NOTHING IS DONE. THATS THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ON THE ROAD THAT DO NOT KNOW HOW FAST THEY ARE GOING AND WHEN THERE CAR IS GOING IS GOING TO RUN OUT OF GAS OR WORST EXPLODE. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS CLUNK IN THE STEERING SHAFT COLUMN. THE MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDED THE STEERING SHAFT BE GREASED DOWN. THERE WERE NO DIRECTIONS REGARDING THE FREQUENCY OF GREASING THE STEERING SHAFT HOWEVER THE PROCEDURE IS EXPENSIVE TO GET DONE. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED THAT THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE DEALER WILL CHARGE FOR GREASE THE STEERING. UPDATED 7/25/2006 - WHEN THE SHAFT MOVED UP AND DOWN THE STEERING WHEEL ALSO MOVED UP AND DOWN. THE DEALER STATED THAT ALL GM PRODUCTS PERFORM THIS WAY AND THAT THERE WAS NO FIX AVAILABLE. THE SHAFT HAS BEEN LUBED TWICE AND REPLACED ONCE. THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT STOP BUTTON FELL OFF BELT. *NM
GENERAL TIRE LT 225/75/R16 LOAD D TREAD CAME OFF. IT WAS A NEW TIRE WITH 15,000 MILES ON IT. JULY 5 ANOTHER TIRE ON SAME VEHICLE THE TREAD CAME OFF. JULY 6 SAME VEHICLE ANOTHER GENERAL TIRE TREAD CAME OFF. JULY 12 RT FRONT TIRE TREAD CAME OFF. TIRE PRESSURE WAS CHECKED BEFORE AND AFTER EACH INCIDENT. *JB
FRONT AND BACK ROTORS NEED REPLACED, EVEN THOUGH VEHICLE HAS LOW MILEAGE, DUE TO RUSTING ROTORS. THIS CREATES AN UNFORESEEN EXPENSE AS WELL AS HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS THAT MAY CAUSE BRAKE FAILURE. *JB
WE PURCHASED OUR 2003 SILVERADO IN SEPT. 2003 . FROM NOVEMBER 2003 WE HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING TO THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER ABOUT THE BRAKE FAILURES AND THE ABS WARNING LIGHTS COMING ON . THE DEALER HAD THE TRUCK IN MAY FOR ALMOST A MONTH AND THE TRUCK WAS RETURNED TO US WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL GOING TO THE FLOOR WHEN DEPRESSED . THE TRUCK CURRENTLY SITS IN OUR GARAGE AND WE REFUSE TO DRIVE IT. THE MANUFACTURER SAYS THIS PROBLEM IS NORMAL AND THAT THE TRUCK IS SAFE. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED THERE WAS A VIBRATION AND A RATTLING NOISE WITHIN THE STEERING. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN. AFTERWARDS, THE PROBLEM RETURNED AND THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AGAIN BY THE DEALER. THE DEALER DETERMINED THE STEERING COLUMN DID NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED, BUT GREASED TO DECREASE THE RATTLING NOISE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT WAS REPLACED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE IS STARTING TO MAKE NOISE AGAIN. UPDATED 11/03/06. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL THERE IS AN INCREASED BRAKING EFFORT REQUIRED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE PEDAL ALMOST GOES TO THE FLOOR BEFORE STOPPING THE VEHICLE. NEW BRAKE PADS WERE PLACED ON THE VEHICLE ON 6-11-06 BUT THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. THERE IS AN NHTSA RECALL, # 04V045000, REGARDING THE SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.
I OWN A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 4X4 AND HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE STEERING ROD ONCE ALREADY AT ABOUT 65,000 MILES DUE TO A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE AND LOOSENESS IN THE STEERING. THIS SET ME BACK ABOUT $300.00 PARTS AND LABOR. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THEY HAVE A LOT OF TROUBLE WITH THIS PART. I AM STILL HAVING TROUBLE WITH THIS AS IT SEEMS LIKE YOU ARE "WANDERING" WHEN TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD. I NOW HAVE 108,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK AND PLAN ON KEEPING IT FOR WHILE LONGER BUT THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN OF MINE. *TR
SPEEDOMETER IS NO LONGER ACCURATE. I HAVE READ MANY POSTS FOR PEOPLE WITH THE SIMILAR TYPE OF VEHICLE 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO AND 2003 GMC YUKONS WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THE SPEEDOMETER LOCKS UP AND DISPLAYS SPEEDS AT LEAST 20-30 MPH OVER, THEN SOMETIMES REGISTERS 0 MPH WHEN TRAVELING HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I HAVE TO RESORT TO USING A PORTABLE GPS FOR MY SPEED DETECTION. THIS APPARENTLY IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH GM VEHICLES, IT IS A COSTLY FIX, AND GM REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL. AS THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION TO BE IN, PLEASE LOOK AT REQUIRING GM TO ISSUE A RECALL. THANK YOU. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AFTER THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN PARKED FOR TWO MONTHS, THE BRAKES VIBRATED WHILE DEPRESSED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE ROTORS. THE MANUFACTURER DETERMINED THIS WAS CAUSED BY THE LENGTH OF THE VEHICLE NOT BEING IN SERVICE AND THE SALT USED ON THE ROADS.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS ACTIVATED AT LOW SPEEDS OF 3-10 MPH. THERE IS AN NHTSA RECALL, # 05V379000 REGARDING THE SERVICE BRAKES; HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK. THE VEHICLE'S VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. UPDATED 6/20/2006 - *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED DURING A TIRE REPLACEMENT THE DEALER NOTICED THE BRAKE ROTORS WERE RUSTED. THE VEHICLE HAD NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM PRIOR TO THE TIRE REPLACEMENT. THE DEALER DETERMINED THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
SPEEDOMETER GAUGE IS NOT READING THE CORRECT SPEED AND JUMPS ALL OVER THE PLACE. THIS CAN CAUSE ME TO HAVE A ACCIDENT BECAUSE I AM UNABLE TO TELL WHAT SPEED I AM TRAVELING. *JB
TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR ROUTINE OIL CHANGE @ APPROX. 36,000 MILES. ASKED SERVICE TECHNICIAN TO EXAMINE BRAKES FOR WEAR. TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FRONT DISC BRAKES WERE FINE, HOWEVER, THE REAR ROTORS WERE FLAKING AND RUSTED. REAR ROTORS AND PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THIS SEEMED TO BE A FREQUENT PROBLEM WITH CHEVROLET TRUCKS. HE ALSO STATED THAT THIS WAS NOT TYPICAL WEAR BASED ON HIS EXPERIENCE, PARTICULARLY AT SUCH A LOW MILEAGE. *JB
CONSISTENT KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE DEALER HAS REGREASED THE SHAFT TWICE WITH SPECIAL GREASE AND ON THE THIRD ATTEMPT REPLACED THE WHOLE SHAFT WITH AN UPDATED VERSION. IN LESS THAN SIX MONTHS THE SHAFT HAS BEGUN TO KNOCK AGAIN. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AFTER RECEIVING INFORMATION CONCERNING POSSIBLE BRAKE ROTOR PROBLEMS, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALER DETERMINED THERE WAS CORROSION ON THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS. THE DEALER REPLACED THE REAR ROTORS UNDER WARRANTY. UPDATED 06/16/06. *JB
STEERING GEAR BOX IS GOING OUT, PART HAS TO BE REPLACED. ME & 4 OTHERS THAT BOUGHT THIS PICKUP ARE ALL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. *NM
AT AROUND 13,000 MILES I HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT PADS AND ROTORS BECAUSE THE METAL ON THE ROTORS FLAKED OFF AND RUINED THE PADS. AT AROUND 16,000, I REPLACED THE REAR PADS AND ROTORS FOR THE SAME REASON. AT AROUND 4,000 MILES THE DEALER REPLACED THE FRONT ROTORS AND PADS, SAME REASON. I ALSO COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER ABOUT THE MUSHINESS OF THE BRAKE PEDAL. THERE IS NO FIRM STOP AND I AM GLAD I HAVE NOT HAD TO STOP FAST. *JB
I HAVE A 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 HD DURAMAX 4-DR THAT THE SPEEDOMETER JUST STARTED GOING INTERMITTENTLY WHACKO ON WITH THE LAST YEAR (CONVENIENTLY JUST OUTSIDE OF NORMAL WARRANTY) JUDGING FROM ALL OF THE POSTS I SEE SCATTERED ACROSS THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS IT IS CLEARY A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT AND SHOULD BE RECALLED ASAP.
WINDSHIELD WIPERS WON'T TURN OFF OR CHANGE SPEED ONCE TURNED ON. ONLY OPERATE IN NORMAL OR HIGH SPEED. HAD TO PULL FUSE TO TURN THEM OFF. WILL BE CHECKING WITH DEALER TO INVESTIGATE SOLUTION. *NM
TIE ROD CAME APART CAUSING ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE TRUCK. TRUCK VEERED INTO PATH OF CAR CAUSING COLLISION. *NM
ANYONE HAD THEIR CHEVY TRUCK FUEL PUMP REPLACED? APPARENTLY THIS IS A DEFAULT ON LOTS OF 2000 AND LATER GM SUV'S & TRUCKS, A QUICK SURVEY OF PEOPLE I KNOW AND THEIR CONTACTS HAS REVEALED THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE (4 CONFIRMED). MY 2003 TRUCK (45K MILES) IS SITTING IN A DEALERSHIP WAITING FOR ME TO AUTHORIZE +$1,000 IN REPAIRS (@10% OF THE VALUE OF THE TRUCK). THERE IS A RECALL FOR TAHOE'S & SUBURBANS ETC. REGARDING THIS ISSUE. I WANT TO ESCALATE THIS ISSUE AND MAKE IT A RECALL ITEM. A FUEL PUMP THAT FAILS TO DELIVER ENOUGH FUEL TO AN ENGINE WILL LEAN IT OUT AND EVENTUALLY KILL THE MOTOR, MAKING THIS A LARGER FINANCIAL AND HAZARDOUS ISSUE. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO APPLY BRAKE PRESSURE THERE WAS AN INCREASE IN STOPPING DISTANCE. THIS OCCURRED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS ON NORMAL ROADS WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE REAR ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED. 05/30/06 UPDATED - DEALER REMOVED REAR WHEELS AND NOTED ROTORS FLAKING APART. *TT
TODAY I WAS TOLD MY 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO (DIESEL, CREW CAB) NEEDED A NEW TRANSFER CASE. THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 125,000. OUR COMPANY OWNS TWO OTHER SIMILAR 2003 VEHICLES (GMC MODEL). THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO BOTH OTHER VEHICLES. ONE AT APPROXIMATELY 12,000 MILES, THE OTHER AT 140,000 MILES. SOMETHING HAPPENS WITHIN THE TRANSFER CASE THAT CAUSES THE CASE TO BE PUNCTURED AND LOSE FLUID. THE CASE OVERHEATS AND EVENTUALLY THE VEHICLE SEIZES UP. THE COST TO REPAIR THIS CONDITION IS $3,200. IN ADDITION IT CAUSES THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE MODULE TO FAIL, RESULTING IN ANOTHER $500 OF DAMAGE. I ASSUME THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES NO LONGER WORKS ONCE THIS HAPPENS. I WONDER HOW MANY VEHICLES THIS IS HAPPENING TO. ALL 3 OF OUR 2003 MODELS EXPERIENCED THIS. WE WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANY TRANSFER CASES AT THE JUNK YARDS. THE LAST REPAIR WE HAD FOR THIS TOOK 2 WEEKS TO GET THE PARTS - THERE ARE NONE IN STOCK APPARENTLY. ALL OF THIS LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THIS IS A DESIGN DEFECT IN THESE VEHICLES AND IT MAY BE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS IF IT DOES INDEED CAUSE THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE MODULE TO FAIL. IT TOOK 2 WEEKS AT THE DEALER TO FIGURE OUT THAT THE DAMAGED TRANSFER CASE WAS CAUSING THE MODULES TO FAIL. ARE YOU GETTING LOTS OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS? IS THERE A SILENT RECALL OR CAMPAIGN COVERING THIS PROBLEM? IT IS HARD TO PAY THIS KIND OF MONEY ON A VEHICLE THAT HAS A $700/MONTH PAYMENT AND WAS PRESUMABLY PURCHASED FOR IT'S DURABILITY AND SAFETY. *NM
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ALONG INTERSTATE 40 AND ONE OF THE TIRES BLEW OUT. SHE WASN'T INJURED, NOR WAS THERE ANY DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO A LOCAL TIRE SHOP AND THEY STATED THAT THE TIRE WASN'T PUNCTURED, THAT THE TREAD WALL COLLAPSED AND THEY RECOMMENED NEW TIRES. THE ORIGINAL TIRES WERE FIRESTONE WILDERNESS WITH 44,000 MILES ON A 2003 CHEVY TAHOE. THE VEHICLE AND TIRES WERE LESS THAN 3 YEARS OLD.
SPEEDOMETER WILL OCCASIONALLY READ FROM 5 TO 30 MPH FROM TRUE SPEED. WHEN THIS MALFUNCTION OCCURS, STOPPING THE TRUCK WILL NOT CAUSE THE SPEEDOMETER TO GO TO 0 MPH AS EXPECTED BUT WILL READ, FOR INSTANCE, 25 MPH. TURNING THE IGNITION OFF AND RESTARTING THE ENGINE WHILE PARKED WILL MAKE THE SPEEDOMETER READ APPROXIMATELY 4 MPH CLOSER TO ZERO EACH TIME. THIS MALFUNCTION HAS CAUSED ME TO DRIVE AT INAPPROPRIATE SPEED MANY TIMES. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THERE WAS A LOUD, POPPING NOISE WITHIN THE STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE WAS SEEN BY A DEALER WHO LUBRICATED THE STEERING COLUMN. AFTERWARDS, THE PROBLEM PERSISTED AND THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED. ALTHOUGH THE POPPING NOISE RESUMED, THE DEALER DETERMINED THE NEW STEERING COLUMN NEEDED ADDITIONAL LUBRICATION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED OF THE PROBLEM.

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR FAILS TO CLOSE AND WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY LOCK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, UPON INSPECTION THE DOOR LATCH FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN ALERTED.
SPEEDOMETER ERRATIC. SOMETIMES READS 35-60 MPH IN PARK, SOMETIMES 120 MPH WHEN TRAVELING AT 30-60 MPH. THEN WILL NOT WORK AT ALL, BUT RESTS AT 120 MPH. ONLY WAY TO RESET IS TO TURN VEHICLE ON AND OFF 6-12 TIMES OVER A 30 MIN PERIOD. IN FEB 07 TOOK TO JACK SCHMITT CHEVY DEALER AND PAID $97.00 FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND WAS TOLD ESTIMATED COST OF REPAIR WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY $500.00. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND A RECALL NEEDS TO BE ISSUED ASAP. *TR
I BROUGHT MY 2003 CHEVROLET TRUCK IN FOR AN ANNUAL INSPECTION AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE REAR BRAKES (ROTORS, PADS AND EMERGENCY BRAKE PADS) NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE TRUCK HAS 35,000 MILES ON IT AND THE REAR ROTORS ARE HEAVILY RUSTED AND ARE CRUMBLING AWAY. THE DISC BRAKE PADS ARE ALSO COMPLETELY WORN OUT. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT BUT I BELIEVE THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE AND IS THE RESULT OF DEFECTIVE PARTS ON THESE VEHICLES. I HAVE SEEN MANY OTHER COMMENTS ON THE INTERNET FROM OTHER SILVERADO OWNERS INDICATING THAT THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THAT CHEVROLET SHOULD RECALL THESE ROTORS AND PADS AND CORRECT THE PROBLEM BEFORE THERE ARE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS FROM FAILING BRAKES. *NM

WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE ON CRUISE CONTROL, THE SPEEDO WILL START TO CLIMB TO OVER 120MHP. AFTER SEVERAL IGNITION CYCLES THE SPEEDO WILL COME BACK DOWN AND WORK FINE FOR AWHILE. THIS PROBLEM USUALLY OCCURS WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. PROBLEM IS VERY INTERMITTENT-HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES AND ALWAYS CORRECTS ITSELF BEFORE I CAN GET IT IN FOR REPAIR- I HAVE TALKED TO SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM- THE FIRST TIME THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED THE TRUCK ONLY HAD 30,000 MILES ON IT. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING IN NORMAL CONDITIONS, THE STEERING MAKES A RATTLE NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR INSPECTION, BUT THE PROBLEM CAN NOT BE DUPLICATED OR RESOLVED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH AND BELOW, THE STEERING ALLOWED TOO MUCH PLAY AND MANEUVERED LOOSELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE STEERING SHAFT. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THE RACK AND PINION HAD A SLIGHT LEAK. THE CONSUMER HAS HAD NUMEROUS COMPONENTS REPLACED ON THE VEHICLE SUCH AS WHEEL BEARINGS, BALL JOINTS, TIE ROD ENDS, CONTROL ARMS, STEERING GEAR, SHOCKS, STEERING LINKAGES, COILS SPRINGS, WHEEL HUBS STEERING COLUMN AND THE POWER STEERING GEAR. THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT WAS REPLACED THREE TIMES AND LUBRICATED THE LAST TIME. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE STEERING DESIGN WAS FLAWED, WHICH CONTAINS A LOOSENESS THAT CAN'T SEEM TO BE CORRECTED. THE TRANSMISSION HESITATED AT TIMES. THE DEALER STATED THE CLUTCHES WERE BURNT AND GLAZED. THE TIRES WERE EXHIBITING PREMATURE WEAR. UPDATED 08/02/06. *JB UPDATED 04/16/08

I HAVE A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO THAT THE SPEEDOMETER INDICATED 120+MPH WHEN GOING 65 MPH. WHEN STOPPED IT INDICATED 60 MPH. DEALER REPLACED CLUSTER UNIT TO RESOLVE PROBLEM. *JB
