THE SPEEDO SLOWLY QUIT WORKING. ASKED SEVERAL SERVICE AGENTS AND DEALERS AND THEY WERE UNAWARE OF THE WAY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM OTHER THAN BY RESTARTING THE VEHICLE OVER AND OVER UNTIL IT FORCED THE SPEEDO BACK INTO ZERO PLACEMENT, BUT NOW THAT DOES NOT WORK AND THE SPEEDO DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. ALL OTHER GAUGES WORK FINE. *TR
DRIVERS SEAT HEATER ELEMENT BURNED OUT. REPAIR SHOWED SIGNIFICANT CHARRING OF THE ELEMENT FABRIC AND SEAT FOAM. *NM
MY CHEVY TRUCK IS A 2003 WITH 52000 MILES ON IT, ONE OWNER,THE ABS SENSORS IN THE FRONT WHEELS HAVE FAILED 3 TIMES NOW, WHAT'S SCARY IS UNLIKE OTHER VEHICLES, THE BRAKES FAIL WHEN THIS HAPPENS, OTHER VEHICLES THE ABS JUST SHUT OFF, STILL HAVE BRAKES, ALSO I AM ABOUT TO PUT ON MY 3RD SET OF BACK BRAKES IN 52000 MILES, STILL ON THE FIRST SET OF FRONT BRAKES, SHORTLY AFTER PUTTING DISC BRAKES LIKE THIS ON THE REAR THEY WENT BACK TO DRUMS, I ALSO NOTICED THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES LOOK PRETTY BAD WITH CORROSION, AND THE FUEL LINES, THEY MOUNTED THEM RIGHT UP AGAINST THE FRAME SO THERE IS NO WHERE FOR WATER AND ROAD CRUD TO DRAIN, BEING AN ENGINEER MYSELF, I CAN'T BELIEVE WHAT THEY HAVE DONE, THE TRUCK LOOKS VARY NICE UNTIL YOU LOOK UNDER IT, ALL LOOKS LIKE 200000MI 20 YR OLD JUNKER. THE ATTEMPTS THEY MADE TO PROTECT THE BACK DISCS ARE A JOKE, THE INFERIOR MATERIAL USED FOR SOMETHING AS IMPORTANT AS BRAKE LINES AND FUEL LINES IS CRIMINAL, AND THEN MOUNTING THEM TO SOMETHING THEY KNEW WAS GOING TO ROT PREMATURELY LIKE THE FRAME IS UNCONSCIONABLE.......AND NO RECALLS ON NONE OF THESE ISSUES IS A SURE SIGN NOBODY CARES. ONE MORE NOTE MY FRIEND HAD A 2002, AND HE HAD HIS BRAKE LINES RECALLED, 2003 ARE IDENTICAL, NO RECALL ?? ONE MORE THING, IN THE FIRST 1000MI MY BRAKE BOOSTER UNIT HAD TO BE REPLACED.. I WILL KEEP THIS SILVERADO UNTIL IT TURNS TO DUST , WHICH PROBABLY WON'T BE LONG , I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A GM FAN, AND HAVE THREE OTHER GM VEHICLES, MY TRUST IN THEM AND THE SYSTEM TO PROTECT CONSUMERS HAS FAILED MISERABLY. I HAVE OWNED MY 2003 SILVERADO FOR JUST OVER 3 YEARS. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS ALREADY: 1) THE AIR CONDITIONER WOULD ONLY BLOW OUT HOT AIR-- HAS BEEN FIXED. 2)VIBRATION NOISE IN REAR END AROUND 30-40 MPH--?? CAN'T BE FIXED/DUPLICATED. 3) SPEEDOMETER QUIT WORKING--REPLACED AT MY COST; WARRANTY JUST EXPIRED, GO FIGURE; ALSO HAD TO GO TO COURT TO FIGHT SPEEDING TICKET! ( RELATIVE HAS SAME TRUCK, SAME PROBLEM!) 4) WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL NOT SHUT OFF, I GET TO PAY FOR THIS ONE TOO, AFTER WARRANTY. I HAD TO PULL THE FUSE OUT! NOT VERY SAFE IN CRAZY MI WEATHER!! 5) ALSO HAD TAILGATE CABLES REPLACED UNDER RECALL. 6) BACK SEAT LOOP REPLACED DUE TO RECALL. NO WONDER CHEVY IS NOT DOING WELL, WHO WANTS TO SPEND OVER $30,000 FOR A PIECE OF JUNK! WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD NOT MOVE. EVEN WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHER SPEEDS, THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYED 0 MILES PER HOUR. THE SERVICE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED HOWEVER THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED THE PHONE NUMBER TO FILE THE COMPLAINT.
BRAKES FAIL WHEN VEHICLE SLOWS DOWN TO 5-10 MPH DUE TO DEFECTIVE ANTILOCK BRAKE SENSORS. *NM
SPEEDOMETER NOT WORK INFECT WILL SHOW THAT TRUCK (2003 SILVERADO 1500) IS TRAVELING AT 100 MILES AN HOUR WHILE IT STOP. IT FAIL ALL OF A SUDDEN WITH NO WARNING AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT NOT TO MENTION ALL THE SPEEDING TICKETS DUE TO THE SPEEDOMETER NOT WORKING. DEALER SATES THAT I THE OWNER HAVE TO PAY TO REPAIR FOR A PRICE OF 350.00 DOLLARS . NO RECALLS HAVE BEEN SENT AND HAVE ASKED OTHER OWNERS IF THE SAME PROBLEMS HAVE OCCURRED AND ALL HAVE SAID YES. THIS OCCURRED AFTER AN AMOUNT OF 100,000 MILES HAVE BEEN DRIVEN ON TRUCK. *JB
BRAKES ARE SOFT WITH LONG STOPPING DISTANCE. INVOLVED IN MINOR MVC. AFTERWARDS FOUND REAR BRAKE ROTORS AND BRAKE ASSEMBLY RUSTED AND COMPONENTS CORRODED. REAR BRAKE CONTACT <50%. LESS THAN 25K MILES. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE VEHICLE HAS GOODYEAR WRANGLER RTS TIRES. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE REAR TIRE WAS FLAT. THE TIRE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE SIDEWALL. THERE WERE 3,000 MILES ON THE TIRE AT THE TIME OF THE SEPARATION. APPROXIMATELY FIVE MONTHS LATER, WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE TREAD SEPARATED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TIRE. THERE WERE 13,000 MILES ON THE TIRE AT THE TIME OF THE SEPARATION. THE TIRE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD INCORRECT TIRES. THE FAILED TIRE WAS REPLACED. APPROXIMATELY SIX MONTHS LATER, THE CONTACT NOTICED A GASH ON THE DRIVER SIDE REAR TIRE. THE TIRE HAS BEEN REPLACED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 62,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000. THE CONSUMER STATED ALL FOUR TIRES FAILED WITHIN AN 18 MONTH PERIOD WITH LESS THAN 25,000 MILES. PREMATURE REAR DISC BRAKE FAILURE--2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO, 31750 MILES-REAR DISC ROTORS RUSTED, PITTED, FLAKING. DEALER REPLACED ROTORS AND DISCS AT MY COST. EVEN THOUGH ROTORS ARE OBVIOUSLY SUFFERING FROM WEATHER AND SALT, DEALER INSISTS THAT THE CALIPERS STILL WORK, THEREFORE IT IS NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE. I CONTEND THAT THE LITERAL DISINTEGRATION OF THE ROTORS CAUSED THE RAPID WEAR OF THE BRAKE PADS. WHEN INSPECTED IN AUGUST OF 2005, I WAS TOLD THE PADS WERE AT 75% THICKNESS. THE TRUCK STILL HAS 6 MONTHS LEFT ON THE MANUF. WARRANTY. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED INTERMITTENTLY, WHEN THE OUTSIDE CONDITIONS ARE COLD THE STEERING IS STIFF. THIS OCCURS AT ANY SPEED. THE PROBLEM IS WORSE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED AND TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE VALVE IN THE POWER STEERING. THIS HAS NOT CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN, #10013533, REGARDING THIS, BUT NO REPAIR AVAILABLE. THE WATER PUMP GASKET WAS REPLACED. THE TRANSFER CASE BEARINGS WERE REPLACED. UPDATED 03/22/06. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS HAVING A DECREASE IN BRAKING POWER AND THERE WAS A LOUD SQUEAKING, RUBBING NOISE WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. THE BRAKES ON THE REAR WERE REPLACED. TWO DAYS LATER THE REAR WHEELS LOCKED UP. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS WERE BAD. THERE IS AN NHTSA RECALL, # 05V379000 REGARDING THE SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK; HOWEVER THE VEHICLE IS NOT HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; ALTHOUGH THE CONTACT FEELS THE TWO ARE RELATED.
MY SPEEDOMETER IS NOT GIVING THE RIGHT SPEED OR SOMETIMES, IT DOESN'T EVEN WORK AT ALL. I STILL GET MY TOTAL MILE ON THE ODOMETER BUT NOT MY SPEED. THIS IS A LOW MILEAGE, BARELY USED TRUCK AND I HAVE NO IDEA HOW FAST I'M GOING? SOMETIMES IT WORKS BUT IS STILL OFF AND OTHER TIMES, IT JUST STOPS WORKING ALL TOGETHER. IF IT IS COLD, IT STOPS WORKING AND YOU HEAR A TAPPING NOISE COMING OUT OF THE CLUSTER. IF IT IS WARM WEATHER, YOU GET SOME RESPONSE OUT OF IT BUT IT IS NOT CORRECT. I WAS ALREADY PULLED OVER FOR SPEEDING WHEN I THOUGHT I WAS UNDER THE SPEED LIMIT. THERE ARE I BELIEVE, 5 DIFFERENT SPEED SENSORS ON THE TRUCK AND I DON'T KNOW WHICH ONE IS NOT WORKING. I AM NOT ALONE IN THIS! THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE ON CHATS AND FORUMS WHO ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME THING. WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO PAY FOR THESE CHEAP PARTS? *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 5MPH, A POPPING NOISE WAS HEARD IN THE STEERING. THE VEHICLE HAD 21,000 MILES AT THE TIME OF INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER DISCOVERED THE STEERING SHAFT WAS FRACTURED AND BROKEN. THE DEALER MADE ALL NECESSARY REPAIRS. HOWEVER, THE STEERING SHAFT WAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACED AT 10,000 MILES. THE VEHICLE IS OCCASIONALLY DRIVEN AND ONLY ON PAVED ROADS.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS SPONGY AND THE VEHICLE REQUIRED EXCESSIVE STOPPING DISTANCE. THIS CAUSED AN ACCIDENT, WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP WHEN A VEHICLE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF THE CONTACT. THERE WAS MINOR DAMAGE TO BOTH VEHICLES, BUT A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT TAKEN. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE FRONT AND REAR ROTORS WERE RUSTED. THE REAR ROTORS AND PADS MUST BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE IS LOCATED IN A SALT BELT STATE. UPDATED 03/03/06. *JB
FAILURE OF THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL HUB BEARINGS. RESULTED IN SEVERE WOBBLE WHILE DRIVING, ESPECIALLY NOTED IN TURNING TO THE LEFT. DEALER ADVISED THIS WAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN WHEEL FAILURE OR FIRE DUE TO OVERHEATING. VEHICLE HAS UNDER 42,000 MILES. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET C/K 2500. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE ENTIRE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF HIS VEHICLE COLLAPSED. THE RIM, TIRE, AND WHEEL DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE LOWER BALL JOINT. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A BROKEN NOSE AND PAIN IN THE SHOULDER. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VIN AND PURCHASE DATE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 17,000.
WE ALL NEED TO CONTACT GM AT WWW.CHEVROLET.COM AND COMPLAIN. I PURCHASED MY 2003 CHEVY 2500 HD IN NOV. 2005. IT HAD 32000 MILES ON IT. THE WARRANTY RAN OUT AT 36000 AND WHEN I HIT 38000 MILES THE PROBLEMS STARTED. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM STARTED ACTING UP. I HAD WENT TO LEAVE AND EVERYTHING WAS DEAD NO POWER AT ALL. I WOULD JUMP IT AND THEN IT WAS FINE FOR THE FIRST COUPLE OF TIMES. THE LAST TIME I JUMPED IT, IT CRANKED BUT I HAD NO POWER IT WOULDN'T MOVE IN DRIVE OR REVERSE AND ALL THE GAUGES WENT CRAZY. I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY WAITED A MINUTE AND RECONNECTED IT AND EVERYTHING WAS WORKING FINE AGAIN. A WEEK LATER THE SPEED ODOMETER WENT CRAZY AND WOULDN'T GO BACK TO ZERO. NOW STARTING A FEW WEEKS AGO THE DRIVE TRAIN IS MAKING A LOUD CLANKING NOISE AND THE REAR WHEELS ARE WANTING TO LOCK UP WHEN I TRY TO START OFF. THESE PROBLEMS DON'T OCCUR EVERY TIME, BUT THE DRIVE TRAIN NOISE IS GETTING WORSE FROM ALL THE FEEDBACK I SEE ON THIS WEB SITE I FEEL I WOULD WASTE MY TIME CONTACTING GM. ALL OF US CHEVY OWNERS WITH PROBLEMS NEEDS TO CONTACT GM EVERY DAY ABOUT OUR $30,000 AND $40,000 DOLLAR HUNK OF SCRAP METAL. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND STARTED SLOWING DOWN. WHILE I WAS SLOWING DOWN MY SPEEDOMETER WOULDN'T SHOW MY SPEED IT JUST STUCK AT 60 MPH. WHEN I WENT TO SPEED UP THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD SPEED UP ALSO SPEEDOMETER WOULD READ 65 WHEN REALLY I WAS ONLY GOING 5 MPH. PULLED THE TRUCK OVER AND SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN THE RESTARTED IT UNTIL THE SPEEDOMETER WAS AT 0 MPH. THEN PULLED BACK ON THE HWY, WHILE SPEEDING UP TO THE TRAFFIC THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD READ 0 MPH. TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE HAVING PROBLEMS WHIT OTHER TRUCKS LIKE MINE. THE MECHANIC HOOKED UP A TESTER AND TOLD ME HE DIDN'T SEE ANY PROBLEM. AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP THE SPEEDOMETER WORKED PERFECTLY, FOR ABOUT 3 DAYS NOW SINCE THEN IT IS A GUESSING GAME WEATHER OR NOT THE SPEEDOMETER IS TELLING ME THE RIGHT SPEED OR IF IT IS WRONG. SO I HAVE BEEN USING MY GPS FOR THE PAST FEW MOTHS. I HAVE TALKED TO OTHER PEOPLE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND ALSO TO CHEVY. CHEVY HAS QUOTED ME ANYWHERE FROM 600-1000 DOLLARS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. AND OTHERS I HAVE TALKED TO HAVE STATED THAT IT HAS COST THEM ABOUT THAT MUCH ALSO.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING WITHOUT WARNING. WHILE THE VEHICLE IS PARKED, THE SPEEDOMETER READS 85-120 MPH AND IS UNRELIABLE WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THERE IS A SHORT IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER AND IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED SINCE PURCHASE, EVERY SEVERAL THOUSAND MILES, THERE IS EXCESSIVE PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DEALERSHIP HAS REPLACED THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT 4 TIMES, BUT THIS HAS NOT REPAIRED THE PROBLEM. UPDATED 3/17/2006 - *NM
THE BRAKES HAVE NOT FELT AS THOUGH THEY WERE WORKING PROPERLY SINCE I PURCHASED THIS TRUCK. SPONGE BRAKE DIFFICULTY STOPPING AT SLOW SPEEDS LONGER STOPPING DISTANCE PULLING TO ONE SIDE. I HAVE BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER TWICE WITH THIS COMPLAINT. I FELT THE PROBLEM WAS BECOMING WORSE. I TOOK IT BACK AGAIN, THE DEALER NOW TELLS ME THAT THE REAR ROTORS ARE RUSTED AND PITTED BEYOND REPAIR AND THE FRONT ROTORS ARE SHOWING RUST ALSO AND THAT THEY WILL NOT COVER THIS EXPENSE. THIS VEHICLE HAS UNDER 30,000 MILES. I CALLED THE MANUFACTURER FOR ASSISTANCE AND THEY WILL ONLY PAY FOR ONE ROTOR (A GOOD WILL GESTURE) THIS IS A TERRIBLE RESPONSE, I HAVE NOW FOUND THAT I AM ONLY ONE OF MANY WITH THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE PUBLISHED I HAD VERY LITTLE WARNING OF PROBLEM. *JB
WAS DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY AND MY SPEEDOMETER WAS SHOWING THAT I WAS SLOWING DOWN. MY SPEEDOMETER WILL WORK FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME THEN IT WILL START TO SHOW THAT THE VEHICLE IS SLOWING DOWN. AND SOON SHOWS THAT YOU ARE GOING 0 MPH. AFTER SITTING FOR A FEW HOURS IN PARK AND NOT RUNNING, IT MIGHT WORK. SOMETIMES IT NEVER WORKS AGAIN FOR A DAY. TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE HAD MANY OTHERS LIKE THIS AND THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHY IT IS HAPPENING BUT CHEVROLET HAS NOT RECALLED IT YET. THEY TOLD ME IT RANGES FROM 2003- 2005. THEY HAVE WORKED ON EVERY ONE OF THESE YEARS. THE DEALER TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING FOR ME EXCEPT REPLACE MY SPEEDOMETER CLUSTER, FOR ABOUT 1000 DOLLARS. WITHOUT A SPEEDOMETER IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE AND I KNOW THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO OTHER PEOPLE. *NM
COMPLETE SPEEDOMETER FAILURE AFTER OFF AND ON PROBLEMS ON MY 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO PICKUP. CANNOT BE INSPECTED NOW AND IT COSTS TOO MUCH FOR OUT OF POCKET -825.00 TO FIX IT.
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD YOU GO TO PUT THE BRAKES ON TO SLOW DOWN, AND THERE IS PRE ACTIVATION OF ABS SYSTEM ON DRY ROADS, AND THEN WHEN YOU ALMOST GET TO A STOP THE BRAKE PEDAL FADES AWAY, CAUSING YOU TO ROLL FORWARD AT LEAST 5 FEET UNTIL PEDAL COMES BACK AND STOPS YOU. CALLED GM AND LOCAL DEALER BECAUSE I HEARD FROM REGULAR MECHANIC THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE CHEVROLET TRUCKS FOR ABS PROBLEMS AND THEY BOTH TOLD ME THAT MY TRUCK WASN'T PART OF RECALL ,ONLY UP TO 2002 WERE RECALLED THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY A NON-RETURNABLE FEE FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST TO SEE IF IT IS THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR IS CORRODED AND IF THEY CAN DUPLICATE THE PROBLEMS I SAY IT HAS. THEN IF THEY DO GM SAID THEY WOULD TRY TO WORK OUT SOMETHING WITH DEALER ON MY PAYMENT OF THE REPAIRS.*AK
FOR WHAT APPEARS TO BE NO REASON AT ALL, THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE WILL GO 'BALLISTIC', REGISTERING HIGHER THAN TRAVELING SPEED, AND OCCASIONALLY EVEN PEGGING OUT. "OVER A PERIOD OF TIME, IT WILL THEN DROP BACK TO NORMAL OPERATION. THIS PHENOMENON WILL OCCUR IN WARM OR COOL TEMPERATURES, WITHIN 5 MILES OF STARTING, OR WELL INTO A LONGER DISTANCE OF TRAVEL. UPON INQUIRY AT SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS (I AM A FULL-TIME DRIVER AND TRAVEL A LOT), I HAVE HEARD VARIOUS REASONS FOR THIS OCCURRENCE, THE MOST PROMINENT HAVING TO DO WITH THE CLUSTER IN THE DASH, AND THE 'CURE' DEPENDS UPON THE PERSON TO WHOM I AM SPEAKING. AT ONE DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD PARTS WERE ON BACKORDER FOR 7 WEEKS. AT ANOTHER I WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO PARK THE TRUCK AND WAIT FOR A THIRD-PARTY REPAIR SERVICE TO DO THAT WORK. I WOULD BE UNABLE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE WHILE WAITING, AS THE MILEAGE WOULD HAVE TO BE RE-PROGRAMMED INTO THE REPAIRED CLUSTER. WAITING TIME FOR THAT WAS ESTIMATED AT 4-6 WEEKS! (AS STATED, I RV FULL TIME, AND THIS IS MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION.) CUSTOMER SERVICE AT GM GIVES THE IMPRESSION THAT OURS' IS AN ISOLATED SITUATION (EXPLAIN THAT 7-WEEK BACKORDER AT THE DEALERSHIP TO ME AGAIN!), AND THEREFORE MUST BE OF LITTLE CONSEQUENCE TO THEM! I AM CONCERNED FROM THE SAFETY STANDPOINT, AS IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO KNOW WHAT ONE'S SPEED IS. (GOING TOO SLOWLY CAN BE AS DANGEROUS AS GOING TO FAST--I FEAR BEING REAR-ENDED AS MUCH AS ANYTHING!) HAD A 2003 SILVERADO THE CLUSTER DRIVING HOME ONE NIGHT AND THE CLUSTER WENT FROM 40 MPH ALL THE WAY TO 110. IT WAS LIKE THIS FOR A WEEK TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THE SAID THIS WAS A NORMAL THING COST ME OVER $300.00 TO FIX IT. *JB
2003 CHEVY SILVERADO TRUCK. BRAKE ROTORS ROTTED AND RUSTED AND REPLACED AT 9,000 MILES AND 3 YEARS OLD. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. AT 5 YEARS OLD AND 13,000 MILES ALL BRAKE LINES RUSTED AND FAILED ALMOST LEADING TO A CRASH. BOTH REPAIRS VERY COSTLY. FREQUENTLY MY 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO HESITATES TO PULL OFF AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. I'VE TAKEN IT TO TWO DEALERSHIPS FOR THE PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THEY STATE IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THE COMPUTER PROGRAMMING WHICH HAS THE TRANSMISSION PULLING OFF IN SECOND GEAR INSTEAD OF FIRST AND THEY HAVE NO SOLUTION FOR THIS PROBLEM, JUST KEEP DRIVING. *JB
THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS HAVE FAILED DUE TO WHAT APPEARS TO BE THE OVERHEATING OF THE LAMP SOCKETS. WHEN YOU GO TO REPLACE THE LAMP' THE SOCKETS APPEARS TO BE BURNT AND BRITTLE AND ARE MISSING THE LITTLE METAL TABS USED TO MAKE CONTACT WITH THE LAMP BASE. YOU CANT REPLACE THE LAMP. THEREFORE I ONLY HAVE 1 DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT AND AM WORRIED ABOUT A POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD WITH THE OTHER ONE. THE ONE THAT WORKS LOOKS LIKE IT'S NOT FAR FROM FAILING AND VERY SOON WONT BE WORKING EITHER. THE MORE I SEE THE AMOUNT OF GM VEHICLES (TRUCKS, SILVERADO, TAHOE, TRAILBLAZER, SIERRA, YUKON & ENVOY'S) WITHOUT TWO DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS, I REALLY DO WONDER IF GM HAS A REAL PROBLEM. I HAVE A 1500 CHEVY, SILVERADO. I WAS NOTIFIED BY ?? BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM HAS CLOSED. THE RECALL STATED A PROBLEM WITH THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER. BUT, BECAUSE WE HAD MORE THAN 70,000 MILES IT WAS NOT COVERED. WE HAD TO PAY OVER $300.00. WE WERE NOT NOTIFIED IN A TIMELY MANNER AND SHOULD BE REIMBURSED. IN 2006 WHEN THE ODOMETER AND THE TEMP GAUGES WAS STICKING WE DID NOT HAVE 70,000 MILES. THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS STILL STUCK SINCE 2006. *TR

THE SPEEDOMETER ON MY 2003 SILVERADO STARTED STICKING, NOT RESETTING TO ZERO. THIS ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO FAIL TO SHOW THE CORRECT SPEED. AT TIMES, I COULD TURN THE VEHICLE OFF, AND RESTART SEVERAL TIMES IN A ROW TO MAKE THE SPEEDOMETER RESET BACK TO ZERO, BUT NOW IT WILL NOT RESET AT ALL. I HAVE HEARD FROM SEVERAL DEALERS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM, IF THAT IS TRUE, WHY HASN'T GENERAL MOTORS DONE SOMETHING TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM, SUCH AS A "RECALL"?? THIS TO ME IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM, AND THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE TAKING THE PROPER STEPS FOR REPAIRS! IF I CANT GET THIS RESOLVED, I CAN GUARANTEE I WONT PURCHASE ANOTHER GM VEHICLE! *NM
DT: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE BACKING THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE GARAGE THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN. HE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WOULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. THEN HE PRESSED VERY HARD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE FINALLY STOPPED. HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT INSPECTED. WAS TOLD BY CHEVORLET DEALERSHIP THAT THIS PROBLEM EXISTS IN 2003 AND 2004 SILVERADO TRUCKS. INTERNET SEARCH FOR OTHERS EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM PROVIDED NUMEROUS RESULTS. WITH ROAD CONDITIONS IN FLA SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE DUE TO RAIN THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE CONDITION, ITS HARD TO DRIVE SAFE IF YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW FAST YOU ARE GOING. 2003 CHEVROLET 1500HD 4X4 - THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT MADE A CLANKING SOUND" WHILE TURNING AND DRIVING. IT WAS EXTREMELY ANNOYING AND LOUD. I TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TWICE WHILE UNDER WARRANTY. I NOW ONLY HAVE 57,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK. BOTH TIMES THEY GREASED THE SHAFT. NOW IT WAS BACK EVEN WORSE. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT GM HAS COME OUT WITH A NEW SHAFT. HOWEVER, THEY DO NOT KNOW IF IT WILL BE ANY BETTER OR WORSE, AND OF COURSE THEY WANTED ME TO PAY FOR THE NEW PART. HOW COULD I KNOW IF THE SHAFT WAS ON THE VERGE OF FAILURE? DO I JUST ALLOW THE NOISE TO CONTINUE UNTIL IT FAILED? WILL IT FAIL? WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN IT FAILS? I WOULD EXPECT GM TO OWN UP TO THIS PROBLEM. FAILURE OF THE WINDSHILED WIPER CONTROL. WIPERS BEGAN BEING DIFFICULT TO TURN ON. THEN ONCE ON, THEY COULDN'T BE SHUT OFF. *NM
DT: THE CONTACT STATES WHILE APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE THE STEERING BECAME HARD TO CONTROL. HE WAS DRIVING AROUND A CURVE AT LESS THAN 20 MPH WHEN THE PROBLEM STARTED. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE COULD HAVE BEEN RELATED TO ICY ROAD CONDITIONS. EVERY TIME HE APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES HE WASUNABLE TO CONTROL THE STEERING. WHEN TURNING VEHICLE AT SLOW SPEED, "CLUNKING" HEARD AND FELT THROUGH STEERING WHEEL. GM DEALER IMMEDIATELY IDENTIFIED PROBLEM AS DEFECTIVE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT. THERE IS A HUGE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS. IF THE SHAFT FAILS, WOULD THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCE LOSS OF STEERING? WHY IS THIS NOT A SAFETY ITEM NECESSITATING A RECALL? *NM
WIRE SHORT IN WIRES LEADING TO THE DRIVERS DOOR AND REAR DOOR. WIRES SHORTED OUT BEHIND LEFT KICK PANEL AND PARTIALLY MELTED THE KICK PANEL. NO MODIFICATIONS TO TRUCK - SEEMS THEY WERE INSTALLED POORLY FROM THE FACTORY. DEALER IS CHARGING TO FIX AND REPLACE WIRES AND REPROGRAM THE DOOR CONTROL MODULE. SHORTS CAUSED AIR BAG LIGHT TO COME ON - DOME LIGHTS FAILED TO TURN OFF - LEFT REAR WINDOW ROLLED ITSELF DOWN WHILE TRUCK WAS SITTING UNOCCUPIED - ALL POWER WINDOWS FAILED - BATTERY COMPLETELY DRAINED. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT STATED A SQUEAL WAS COMING FROM THE BRAKES. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THE REAR ROTORS WERE RUSTED. THEN, HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED. THEY ADVISED HIM THIS WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM BECAUSE OF THE GRADE OF METAL BEING USED IN THE ROTORS. SPEEDOMETER STARTED STICKING AND GRADUALLY GOT WORSE, NOW THE SPEEDOMETER IS STUCK. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY JUST SEND THEM OFF TO A SPEEDOMETER REPAIR SHOP ALL THE TIME. I CALLED SOME SPEEDOMETER REPAIR SHOPS AND THEY SAID THAT THE PROBLEM I AM HAVING WAS QUITE COMMON FOR THE 2003 CHEVY TRUCK.*JB
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE STEERING COLUMN WAS LOOSE AND HE HEARD A POPPING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. ON JUNE 29, 2004 THE STEERING SHAFT WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THERE WAS 35,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE . AT 78,000 MILES THE PROBLEM RECURRED. ALSO, THE STEERING WAS DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER; ESPECIALLY AT HIGHER SPEEDS, AND WHEN THERE WERE INDENTATIONS IN THE PAVEMENT. THE DEALERSHIP AGREED THAT THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE STEERING SHAFT OCCURRED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED.*AK
KNOCKING FEELING THROUGH STEERING WHEEL AND FLOOR WHILE TURNING AND ON BUMPS AS IF SOMETHING IS LOOSE. STEERING SHAFT REPLACED AT 13K MILES, BUT PROBLEM STILL EXISTED. NOW VEHICLE HAS 17600 MILES AND PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE. DEALER REFUSES TO ATTEMPT ANY REPAIR. *JB
