WE PURCHASED A 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO FROM STEVE'S AUTO SALES IN NORWAY, MAINE ON 11-19-05. IT HAD 49,000 MILES ON IT. IN LOOKING IT OVER MY HUSBAND FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED. CHEVROLET HAS BEEN TOLD AND THEY SAY THAT THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING FOR US. IT DOESN'T SOUND SAFE TO ME. *JB
TL- THE CONSUMER STATED STEERING BEGAN FEELING LOOSE AND MAKING NOISE ON ROUGH ROADS. THE CONSUMER STATED DEALER REPLACED THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT AT THE CONSUMER'S COST. THE CONSUMER STATED THE PART HAD TO BE REPLACED YET AGAIN AT 82,867 MILES ON A GOOD FAITH GESTURE BY THE DEALER. UPDATED 09/18/07 *TR

DT: CONTACT STATED HE AND 2 OTHERS JUMPED ON A TAILGATE TO TRANSPORT A COUPLE OF FEET AWAY. THE CABLES ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE TAILGATE BROKE, CAUSING THE TAILGATE TO GO DOWN. THIS , IN TURN, IT CAUSED HIM TO FALL OUT, HITTING THE PAVEMENT. INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. *AK
CHEVY SILVERADO 2003. I HAVE OWNED MY TRUCK FOR 2 YEARS. IN THOSE TWO YEARS I HAVE EXPERIENCED LACK OF BRAKES AT A SLOW RATE OF SPEED. 40 AND UNDER. I HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES. LAST MARCH MY VALVE STEM BROKE AT 28 THOUSAND. AT THAT TIME, I TOLD THE MAN WORKING THAT I DON'T HAVE BRAKES,SOMETIMES. HE ASKED WHEN? I DON'T KNOW, JUST AT STOP SIGNS AND IN SAN FRANCISCO TRAFFIC. HE SAID TO KEEP AN EYE ON IT. I DID AND TOOK IT BACK LAST FRIDAY TO GET IT CHECKED. I ALSO SAW THE RECALL NOTICE THAT NHTSA HAD IN THE PAPER LAST WEEK. THEY MENTIONED A RECALL IN COSTA RICA AND IN SIX STATES ON THE CHEVY SILVERADO AND THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HEATHER SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR ANY WORK. I HAVE A TRUCK LOAD OF KIDS ALL THE TIME, YET I DON'T HAVE BRAKES ALL THE TIME. ITS HAPPENED ABOUT 20 TIMES IN THE LAST TWO YEARS. HEATHER SAID THE MEN DROVE IT FOR TWO MILES AND FOUND THE PROBLEM. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY FOUND, BUT I DON'T LIKE IT WHEN MECHANICS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF WOMEN. I JUST WANT MY BRAKES FIXED.
DT: THE CONTACT RECEIVED NHTSA RECALL 05V153000 CONCERNING THE REAR SEAT BELTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. THE DEALERSHIP UNDID THE LOOP, TOOK OUT THE SEAT BELT , AND STITCHED IT TOGETHER WITH A NEEDLE AND THREAD. THE SEAT BELT WORKED AT THIS TIME. HE WAS CONCERNED WITH HOW IT LOOKED. GENERAL MOTORS STATES THEY HAVE REPAIRED THE VEHICLE TO THE RECALL SPECIFICATIONS. *AK
ON 25500HD SILVERADO, STEERING HAS TO MUCH FREE PLAY AND IS SLOPPY. STEERING ALSO WANDERS. HAD ALIGNMENT DONE 3 TIME WITHIN 2 MONTH PERIOD, AND STEERING SHAFT REPLACEMENT PER BULLETIN - DID NOT CORRECT SITUATION. STILL WONDERS TO LEFT. NOT SAFE WHEN HAULING A TRAILER OR NOT. TO DATE THIS HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED PROPERLY. *JB
DT: 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. MY VEHICLE IS TWO YEARS OLD AND ONLY HAS 13, 000 MILES ON IT. HAD TO TAKE VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE BRAKES CHECKED. THE BRAKES WERE GRINDING METAL TO METAL, AND THE BRAKE PADS WERE WORN OUT. THE BRAKES SHOULD HAVE NOT WORN OUT AT 13, 000 MILES. THE WARRANTY EXPIRED SINCE THE CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE FOR TWO YEARS. THE CONSUMER SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THE BRAKES FIXED. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD THE CONSUMER THAT WARRANTY WAS FOR TWO YEARS. OR 24, 000 MILES. JUST NOTICED THIS WEEK HOW BAD THE BRAKES WERE. DID NOT HAVE ANY ACCIDENTS, AND WHEN PRESSING ON THE BRAKES COULD HEAR THEM SCRAPE AGAINST THE METAL. *AK
VEHICLE, 2003 CHEVY 1500, 2 WHEEL DRIVE TRUCK. PART FAILED: REAR BRAKE ROTOR. THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS ARE FAILING INTERNALLY. LARGE PIECES OF RUST ARE BREAKING AWAY IN THE COOLING FIN AREA. *NM
DT: 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THE REAR ROTORS WORE OUT AND THE PADS WERE STILL AT HALF. HE NOTICED THIS ON OCTOBER 14, 2005 WHEN HE HEARD A RUBBING FROM THE REAR BRAKES. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, AND THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM. HAS AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THIS INSPECTED. *AK
SPEEDOMETER FAILURE. KNOW SEVERAL PEOPLE WITH THIS PROBLEM. CHEVY DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM ON SEVERAL VEHICLES. WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. IF THERE ARE SO MANY FAILURES WHY NOT RECALL AND REPLACE. *JB
I HAVE A 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 WITH 28000 MILES. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN MARCH 2003. THE ROTORS ON THE REAR BREAKS ARE COMPLETELY RUSTED. THE DEALER WOULD NOT WARRANT THE ROTORS AND PAD EVEN THOUGH I COMPLAINED ABOUT THE PROBLEM WHILE THE TRUCK WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THE BRAKES ARE EXTREMELY SOFT, ESPECIALLY AT LOW SPEEDS. I WANT THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM REPLACED FOR SAFETY. I HAVE 2 FRIENDS WITH THE SAME VEHICLE, BOTH HAVE TWICE REPLACED PADS AND ROTORS IN LESS THAN 60000 MILES! I CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY THIS REPLACEMENT MY SELF. I WANT CHEVY TO MAKE GOOD ON A FAULTY DESIGN THAT I PAID MY ENTIRE SAVINGS ON!!!! *NM
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE CALIPER BROKE WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A CERTIFIED DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THEY HAVE AGREED TO REIMBURSE THE CONTACT A PORTION OF THE REPAIR COST.*AK
SPEEDOMETER CLUSTER DOES NOT WORK. *NM
DT: CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE DID NOT BRAKE WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A GOODYEAR TIRE TO HAVE THE TIRES REPLACED. THE MECHANIC TOLD HER THE TIRES WORE OUT. THIS RESULTED FROM THE ROTORS BEING RUSTED. ALSO, THE REAR BRAKES WORE OUT DUE TO THE ROTORS BEING RUSTED. THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIRS WILL BE MADE AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. HOWEVER, THE REPAIRS HAVEN'T BEEN DONE AT THIS TIME. *AK
IN SEPTEMBER 2003, I PURCHASED A2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO Z71. ON FEBRUARY 6, 2005, I HAD TO HAVE A "LUBE PACK" REPLACED ON THE STEERING COLUMN. EVERYTIME I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL, A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD. ON SEPTEMBER 26, 2005, I HAD TO HAVE THE "LUBE PACK" REPLACED AGAIN, FOR THE SAME REASON. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALER AGAIN SEVERAL MONTHS AGO AND I COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SAME NOISE. HE TOLD ME, AFTER CHECKING IT, THAT IT WOULD BE BEST IF I WAITED A LITTLE LONGER, BECAUSE GM WOULD ONLY REPLACE THE "LUB PACK" ONE MORE TIME AT THEIR COST. AFTER SEARCHING FOR SIMILAR PROBLEMS ON THE WEB SITE, I SEE I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON HAVING THIS PROBLEM; MANY OTHER PURCHASERS OF GM TRUCKS ARE HAVING THE PROBLEM AND IT HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE 1999. I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT PART OF NHTS'S JOB WAS TO INVESTIGATE AND SEE THAT CORRECTIVE ACTION WAS TAKEN SO THAT THE SAFETY OF DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS WAS INSURED. IT ALSO APPEARS THAT NO ONE, ESPECIALLY NHTS, KNOWS WHETHER THIS STEERING PROBLEM CONSTITUTES A DANGEROUS CONDITION. I REALIZE THAT A RECALL OF VEHICLES TO FIX THE PROBLEM WOULD BE MOST EXPENSIVE FOR GM, WHICH IS HAVING FINANCIAL PROBLEMS AT THIS TIME, BUT GM IS RESPONSIBLE FOR DOING NOTHING ABOUT A PROBLEM THAT COULD BE A SERIOUS ONE, EVEN IF JUST ONE LIFE IS LOST BECAUSE OF IT. *NM
DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE TIRES WORE OUT VERY QUICKLY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MIDAS TO HAVE THE TIRES REPLACED, AND THEY TOLD THE CONTACT THAT THE ROTORS WERE PITTED. THE MANUFACTURER TOLD HIM THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $1000 TO REPLACE THE ROTORS AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE PADS THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE METAL IN THE ROTORS WERE WORN OUT . *AK
9 JANUARY, 2006 TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: I WOULD LIKE TO REPORT TWO SAFETY RELATED PROBLEMS WITH MY 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO PICKUP TRUCK. WHILE DRIVING THROUGH ILLINOIS LAST YEAR, I EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE OF THE SPEEDOMETER. I HAD BEEN ON THE ROAD FOR 12+ HOURS AND WAS THE ONLY CAR ON THE INTERSTATE LATE AT NIGHT WHEN I BEGAN HAVING TROUBLE MAINTAINING A CONSISTENT SPEED AND WAS UNCOMFORTABLE IN GENERAL WITH THE QUALITY OF MY DRIVING. FEELING THAT I MUST BE TOO TIRED TO CONTINUE, I PULLED OFF THE ROAD AT THE NEXT INTERCHANGE. WHEN I STOPPED I NOTED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER CONTINUED TO READ 60 MPH. THIS VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 40,000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. THE OTHER PROBLEM IS MORE RECENT. THE VEHICLES FLASHERS COME ON WHEN THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL IS APPLIED. THIS IS VERY CONFUSING TO OTHER DRIVERS AROUND ME. THE MANAGER OF THE COMPANY FLEET REPORTS THAT THERE ARE TWO COMPANY PICKUPS OF THE SAME VINTAGE THAT HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED UNRELIABLE SPEEDOMETERS EARLY IN THERE LIVES. THE CHEVROLET DEALER STATES THAT HE HAS NOT EXPERIENCED THESE PROBLEMS BEFORE. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THESE TRUCKS OR AN ANOMALY. THANK YOU,. *NM
THE LOCKING REAR AXLE ON MY CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD DOES NOT RELEASE WHEN ENTERING A TURN OR INTERSECTION FROM A STOP, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CONTINUE FORWARD AND FIGHT STEERING IN THE PROPER DIRECTION. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL NEAR HEAD ON COLLISIONS WITH OPPOSING TRAFFIC UPON FINALLY COMPLETING THE TURN. CHEVROLET INSPECTED THE REAR AXLE AND INSTALLED A LUBRICANT ADDITIVE AT APPROXIMATELY 10000 MILES BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME MAKE,MODEL,AND YEAR VEHICLE WHO HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEMS. *NM
2003 2500 HD RIGHT REAR TIRE BLEW OUT. *TS *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT LOW SPEEDS IT WOULD JUMP LIKE IT WAS ON SLIPPERY PAVEMENT. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, #05V379000, REGARDING THE SERVICE BRAKES; ABS. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE YEAR OF THE VEHICLE.
MY 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO HAS 24000 MILES ON IT AND THE BRAKES ROTORS ARE SHOWING A HIGH RATE OF CORROSION. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD VERY POOR BRAKING SINCE NEW AND COULD CAUSE A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. CORRODED BRAKE ROTORS WITH VERY LIMITED WEAR OF THE BRAKE PADS. ROTORS WEAR OUT BEFORE PADS. ALSO THE ROTORS SHOW SIGNS OF POOR METAL QUALITY WITH HIGH CORROSION EVEN PITTING ALL OVER THE BRAKING SURFACE. AT THIS TIME I AM WORKING WITH GM TO WARRANTY THE BRAKES DUE TO CORROSION NOT WEAR. THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY CONCERN, SINCE THE BRAKES COULD JUST FALL APART. *NM
PAINT PEELING OFF FENDER AND ROCKER AREA. I HAD PAINT PEELING OFF THE DOOR BUT THE DEALERSHIP AND THE COMPANY REPRESENTATIVE SAW FIT TO REPAIR THAT BUT NOW IT IS CALLED PAINT CHIPS. THE PAINT IS FLAKING OFF THE VEHICLE. STONE CHIPS DO NOT FLAKE. *JB
WE HAVE A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO AND A 2004 IMPALA. SPEEDOMETERS HAVE BROKEN ON BOTH. THE IMPALA WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THE SILVERADO WAS TURNED IN UNDER WARRANTY BUT NOT REPAIRED AND NOW IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS APPARENTLY IS A MAJOR AND WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH CHEVROLET VEHICLES AND THE COMPANY WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THE PRODUCT. BOB HOWARD CHEVROLET IN OKLAHOMA CITY TELLS ME COST TO FIX THIS PROBLEM IS $400-600 FOR THE PART AND $125-175 FOR LABOR. HOW MANY OF THESE MODULE CLUSTERS HAVE PREMATURELY MALFUNCTIONED? MECHANICS AND GM SERVICE CENTERS SAY THEY ARE ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. THAT SHOULD ILLUSTRATE THE NEED FOR REVIEW AND RECALL. *JB
LOOSENESS IN FRONT END STEERING. CLUNKING AND WOBBLE IN FRONT END FELT THROUGH STEERING WHEEL. REPEAT OCCURRENCE. FIRST TIME REQUIRE REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT OF STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT REPLACEMENT PN 88963611. FIRST OCCURRENCE HAPPENED AT 28162 MILES, SECOND OCCURRENCE HAPPENED AT APPROX 46,000 MILES. PROBABLE DESIGN FLAW. *JB
PURCHASE TRUCK USED IN JUNE OF 2005 WITH 49000MILES TRUCK HAS LESS THEN 55000MILES ON IT.. FIRST DAY RAN OUT OF GAS ..GAS GUAGE AND DIGITAL READING SHOWED 50 MORE MILES WORHT OF GAS.FIXED THEGAS GUAGE PROBLEM OR SO THEY SAY THEN OIL GUAGE STARTED SHOWINGWAY PAST FULL ON OIL THEN WOULD GO BACK TO NO OIL THEN TO NORMAL SPEEDOMETER STICKS AND ON OCCASION WILL GO BACK TO ZERO FOR THE MOST PART YOUR START OFF SPEED IS AT LEAST 40MPH.. WAS TOLD BY DEALER IT WAS A FAULTY I.C.P AND THAT THEY HAVE BEEN HAVING SEVERAL BROUGHT INTO THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE SAME PROBLEM.. I FEEL IF THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT OBVIOUSLY CHEVY IS AWARE OF IT SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED WITH NO OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE TO ITS CONSUMERS. WAS ALSO TOLD THAT MY DASH WOULD HAVE TO BE SHIPPED OUT OF TOWN TO BE REPAIRED AND THAT I WOULD BE WITHOUT A VEHICLE FOR AWHILE.. I AM TRULY DISAPPOINTED WITH WHAT I THOUGHT WOULD BE THE PERFECT TRUCK CONSIDERING ITS A 44000 DOLLAR VEHICLE ONLY TO FIND OUT I NEED TO SPEND AN ADDITIONAL 4-500 DOLLARS.. REAR DISK BREAK ROTORS RUSTED AND FLAKING AWAY. AFTER 40,000 MILES <20% OF THE ROTOR SURFACE IS MAKING CONTACT WITH THE BREAK PADS. *NM
I NOTED THE RECALL ON THE CHEVY SILVERADO'S FOR ANTI-LOCK BRAKE ACTIVATION AT SLOW SPEEDS. THE ARTICLE ONLY NOTED UP THROUGH 2002 VEHICLES. I HAVE A 2003 SILVERADO 1500 AND I NOTE THE ISSUE. THE ANTILOCK ACTIVATES AROUND 10 TO 20 MPH AS I ENTER A TURN LANE FOR A GAS STATION I USE. THERE IS A RIPPLE SERIES OF BUMPS IN THE TURN LANE. IF I FORGET AND AM ON THE BRAKES, THE BRAKING EFFECT SEEMS TO DROP ABOUT 50%. THE FIRST COUPLE OF TIMES I NEARLY ROLLED THROUGH THE INTERSECTION DUE TO NOT UNDERSTANDING THE BRAKES AND WHAT HAD HAPPENED. IF THERE HAD BEEN ANOTHER CAR IN THE INTERSECTION I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE HIT THEM. PERHAPS YOU NEED TO LOOK AT THE 2003 SILVERADOS ALSO IN YOUR INVESTIGATION. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. IN AUGUST 2005, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND WOULD NOT TURN OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE WIRING AT THE BRAKE HINGE WAS REPAIRED. IN 2010, THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,283 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 47,292.
FAILURE OF WINDSHIELD WIPERS INTERMITTANTLY USUALLY WHEN IT'S RAINING VERY HARD; RESULTING IN TOTAL LOSS OF VISIBILITY AND NEAR COLLISION ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. GM KNOWS THEY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH CIRCUIT BOARDS. THIS IS SURELY A SAFETY ITEM.
INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT KEEPS WEARING OUT EVERY 15 THOUSAND MILES AND THE DEALER HAS REPLACED IT TWICE IN TWO YEARS IT IS WORN OUT AGAIN AT 45K MI. AND NEEDS REPLACED . IN MY OPINION THIS SHOULD BE A 100K MI PART AT LEAST. *NM

THERE IS ABOUNCE AND VIBRATION IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHILE DRIVING UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES, BUT IT BECAME WORSE WHILE TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT. SOMETIMES THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN WHILE TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS HAPPENED EVERY TIME THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS A REMEDY KIT AVAILABLE FROM CHEVROLET THAT IWASCOVERED UNDER WARRANTY OR THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO COVER THE EXPENSE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY THIS KIT WAS INSTALLED IN APPROXIMATELY A YEAR AGO, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS AGAIN. THE NEW RECOMMENDATION FROM CHEVROLET WAS TO REPLACE THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT. THE SERVICE DEALER SAID THE VEHICLE IWASOUT OF WARRANTY, AND THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR. AIR BAGS DID NOT INFLATE WITH A FRONT END CRASH THAT PUSHED THE MOTOR IN THE DASH. SON RECEIVED HEAD INJURIES WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO ABOUT THIS. PICKUP WAS A TOTAL LOSS. FRAME WAS BENT. OUR ATTORNEY WOULD LIKE TO PUSH THIS BUT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT YOU WILL DO FOR US FIRST. I HAVE PICTURES IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE THEM. *JB
BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED ON 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. ROTORS WERE CORRODED AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT GM PUT ON "JUNK" PARTS AND WILL NOT ADMIT IT. TRIED TO WORK OUT THE SITUATION WITH GM BUT THEY REFUSED TO COOPERATE. HAD TO PAY FOR THE WORK MYSELF.
HAVE HAD SEVERAL OCCASIONS THAT KEY IN IGNITION WILL NOT TURN TO START VEHICLE. *NM
BOTH FRONT AND REAR CENTER-SEAT LAP RESTRAINT BELT LATCH COVERS (GM PART # 14863), FROM THE MALE END OF THE BELT FELL OFF. BOTH HAVE RECEIVED MINIMAL USE, HOWEVER THE TABS THAT HOLD THE COVERS TO THE BELT LATCH ARE BROKEN OFF. THIS ISSUE PRESENTS AN OBVIOUS COSMETIC DEFECT AND MORE IMPORTANTLY I AM UNSURE IF THE AFFECTED BELTS ARE SAFE TO USE EITHER BY ADULTS OR MY SOON TO BE BORN DAUGHTER IN A CHILD SEAT. WEAVER AUTO CENTER IN GRASS VALLEY, CA INFORMED US THAT GM WOULD NOT FURNISH REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR SEAT BELTS DUE TO LIABILITY/SAFETY REASONS. FURTHERMORE, TO REMEDY THE RESULTING COSMETIC OR SAFETY CONDITION I WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE NEW SEAT BELTS. *NM
DT: 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO EXTENDED CAB SHORT WHEEL BASE 2 WHEEL DRIVE TRUCK. WHILE DRIVING OVER ROUGH SURFACES,THERE IS NOISE IN THE STEERING. IT WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY ON AUGUST 16, 2004. THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT WAS REPLACED. CHEVROLET CLAIMED THAT THE CONSUMER HAD TO PAY $80.00 AS A DIAGNOSTIC FEE. IN ADDITION, HAS TO PAY FOR THE PARTS AND $275.00 LABOR FEE. THE DEALER AGREED TO WAVE THE $80 INSPECTION FEE IF THEY ID THE WORK. THE MANUFACTURER SAID THAT IT WOULD BE UP TO THE CONSUMER TO HAVE THIS FIXED, AND THE DEALER WOULD DETERMINE IF IT WOULD BE SAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. *AK
THE TRUCK WAS PARKED AND THE KEY WAS IN THE ACCESSORY (ACC) POSITION, AND MY TWO YEAR OLD GRANDDAUGHTER HIT THE SHIFT LEVER OUT OF PARK, AND THE TRUCK ROLLED DOWN THE STREET AND HIT A U-HAUL TRUCK, SHE WAS NOT INJURED, HER MOTHER WAS IN THE TRUCK WITH HER BUT COULD NOT SHIFT IT BACK INTO PARK, OR HIT THE BRAKE. *JB

I HAVE BEEN DRIVING MY 2003 SILVERADO FOR FOUR YEARS NOW AND HAVE HAD THE FOLLOWING PROBLEM: WITH 53000 MILES AT 10,000 MILES: STARTED DEALING WITH INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT CLUNK. SOMEWHAT RELIEVED TO FIND OUT THAT THE FRONT END ISN'T FALLING APART; DISMAYED TO HEAR THAT I MAY BE OBLIGED TO PAY AND PAY TO HAVE THIS CHRONICALLY-DEFECTIVE PART SERVICED OVER AND OVER AGAIN. LUBING THE PART IS NOW GOING TO FIX A DESIGN PROBLEM. NOW GM WILL NOT COVER THE LUBING BECAUSE IT IS NOT UNDER ANY WARRANTY. THE STEERING SHAFT HAS A DESIGN PROBLEM THAT IS WHY GM HAS SENT OUT BULLETINS AND REDESIGNED SHAFTS FOR REPLACEMENTS, SO WHY IS THIS PART NOT ON RECALL??? MY 2003 Z71 HAS ABOUT 58000 MILES ON IT AND FOR ABOUT THE LAST 20000 MILES THERE HAS BEEN A "CLUNK" NOISE THAT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS COMING FROM THE FRONT END WHEN I HIT SMALL BUMPS OR ROUGH ROADS. I AM BRINGING IT TO A MECHANIC SOON. IT SOUNDS LIKE THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. *JB
DT: BOTH REAR AXLE SEALS LEAKED AND GREASE WAS COMING OUT AND GETTING ON THE END OF THE AXLES AND ON THE REAR ROTOR DISC BRAKES. WHEN BRAKING HEAVY ON HILLS SMOKE EMINATED, MOSTLY ON THE LEFT SIDE. MECHANIC WAS ON VACATION AND CONSUMER WAS WAITING MECHANIC'S RETURN FOR REPAIRS. CONSUMER DID CONTACT GM, WHO SAID THEY HAD NO REPORTS ON THIS ISSUE, BUT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE REAR BRAKES. CONSUMER HAD AN APPOINTMENT, AND DEALER STATED THEY WOULD LOOK INTO AXLES WHEN REPAIRING THE RECALL. *AK
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO WITH 43,000 MILES. AS A RESULT OF THE REAR ROTORS ON THE TRUCK RUSTING AND FALLING APART, I HAD TO REPLACE THE ROTORS. DUE TO THE POOR DESIGN OF THE PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY, THE PASSENGER SIDE ROTOR HAD TO BE CUT OFF WITH A TORCH!. *JB
DT: CONTACT HEARD A LOUD CLANKING NOISE IN THE STEERING COLUMN FOR ABOUT A PERIOD OF 2 YEARS. HE HEARD THE NOISE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE GOING OVER A BUMP. IT HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. DEALERSHIP TRIED TO PUT A LUBE KIT IN IT, AND IT DID NOT HELP IT. THE DEALER ORDERED A KNUCKLE ASSEMBLY AND REPLACED IT. ROUGHLY 10,000 MILES LATER IT STARTED TO MAKE THE NOISE AGAIN. ON 7-26 HE NOTICED THAT WHEN TURNING OFF THE CAR THE STEERING WHEEL WAS NOT LOCKING. IT OCCURRED AT ANY SPEED. *AK
GENERAL MOTORS HAVE A FAULTY NEUTRAL SAFETY SHIFT SWITCH ON THEIR SILVERADO 1500 1/2 TON PICKUPS THAT MAY LEAD TO FAILURE AND CAUSE THE TRUCK TO BURN. I HAVE BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF GENERAL MOTORS BUT THEY IGNORED ME. MY TRUCK BURNED AND WE PUT IT OUT. I SEE OTHERS THAT HAVE BURNED AND I BET THE NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH IS WHAT STARTED IT. IF YOU WERE TO INVESTIGATE HOW MANY 03 (MAYBE NEWER MAYBE OLDER) HAVE BURNED YOU WILL FIND THE CAUSE IN THIS SWITCH.
DT:CONTACT STATED THE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS DEFECTIVE. THE PEDAL WENT DOWN VERY FAR AND WAS SPONGY. IT TOOK A LONG TIME FOR THE TRUCK TO STOP. THE CONSUMER STATED PUMPING THE PEDAL DID NOT HELP. CONTACT BOUGHT VEHICLE NEW AND WAS HAVING THIS PROBLEM SOMEWHAT SINCE HE PURCHASED IT, BUT DID NOT REALIZE IT WAS SO BAD UNTIL HE DROVE OTHER VEHICLES. THIS HAPPENS AT ANY SPEED. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN THE CONSUMER DROVE 45 MPH DOWN A GRAVEL ROAD, AND APPLIED THE BRAKES, THERE WAS NO ABS FUNCTION AND THE WHEELS DID NOT LOCK. ALTHOUGH THE TRUCK DID EVENTUALLY STOP, IT TOOK A GREAT DISTANCE TO DO SO. THE STEERING SHAFT WAS REPLACED. *JB
THE PARKING BRAKE ON 2003 CHEVROLET 2500 SILVERADO PICKUP TRUCKS WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS WILL NOT HOLD THE VEHICLE ON EVEN A VERY SLIGHT GRADE WITHOUT CONSTANT ADJUSTMENTS BEING MADE TO THE BRAKE SYSTEM. IF THERE IS A TRAILER BEING TOWED OR A LOAD BEING CARRIED IN THE TRUCK BED, THE PARKING BRAKE WILL NOT HOLD EVEN FOLLOWING A DEALER SERVICE ADUSTMENT. I HAVE REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO THE DEALER AND BEYOND ADJUSTING THE BRAKE THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE. MY TRUCK HAS 48000 MILES ON IT AND THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM ALMOST FROM THE BEGINNING. THE TRUCK HAS NEARLY RUN INTO THE SIDE OF A BUILDING, ROLLED OUT OF ITS PARKING SPACE, AND STARTED ROLLING DOWN A HILL WHILE I WAS EXITING THE TRUCK. I CANNOT SAFELY PARK THE TRUCK UNLESS IT IS ON LEVEL GROUND, PARKING BRAKE ENGAGED AND TRANSMISSION PLACED IN REVERSE. I HAVE A FRIEND THAT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET 3500 SILVERADO WITH THE SAME PROBLEM.
ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS I HAD FLAT TIRES WITH MY 2003 CHEVY 2500HD 4X4 TRUCK WITH ALUMINUM WHEELS. FORTUNATELY IN BOTH CASES IT WAS ON MY DRIVEWAY RATHER THAN ON A PUBLIC ROAD. THE ALUMINUM WHEELS APPEAR TO HAVE ELECTRO-CHEMICALLY WELDED THEMSELVES TO THE WHEEL HUBS. I COULD NOT REMOVE THEM (AFTER REMOVING ALL LUG NUTS OF COURSE) WITH A 12 POUND SLEDGE HAMMER & WOOD BLOCK. MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALER INFORMED ME THEY USE A 20 POUND SLEDGE HAMMER. I REQUESTED SOME FORM OF ANTI-SEIZE MATERIAL BE APPLIED TO THE WHEEL/HUB INTERFACE BUT WAS TOLD THIS IS NORMAL FOR THIS VEHICLE. I EVEN DROVE THE VEHICLE FOR A FEW FEET WITH NO LUG NUTS INSTALLED TO BREAK THE WHEEL FREE TO NO AVAIL. I CALLED CHEVY ROADSIDE SERVICE WHO FACILITATED THE TIRE CHANGE. THIS IS RIDICULOUS HAD THIS FAILURE BEEN ON A HIGHWAY MY LIFE WOULD HAVE BEEN ENDANGERED BY HAVING TO WORK UNDER THE VEHICLE WHILE ONLY SUPPORTED BY THE MANUFACTURER SUPPLIED JACK; WHILE TRAFFIC PASSED NEARBY. *JB
REAR BRAKE ROTORS WARPED AT 15500 MILES. COULD FEEL VIBRATION WHEN APPLYING BRAKES. CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP TURNED DOWN ROTORS AND REINSTALLED OLD BRAKE PADS. WHEN I QUESTIONED THE ROTORS WARPING WITH THIS LOW MILEAGE, TURNING DOWN THE ROTORS INSTEAD OF REPLACEMENT AND REUSE OF THE USED BRAKE PADS I WAS ADVISED THAT THIS WAS ALL THAT GM AUTHORIZED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *NM
DT: 2003 CHEVROLET 2500 HD TRUCK EXPERIENCED AN ENGINE POWER REDUCTION. THE VEHICLE OPERATED AT A REDUCED SPEED. IT GOES AT A CRAWL. THIS OCCURRED AT SPEEDS OF 40-50 MPH IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. HAS TO COAST OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, ON AVERAGE ABOUT 10-15 SECONDS AFTER CUTTING OFF THEN THE ENGINE RESTARTED. THIS USUALLY HAPPENED AFTER VEHICLE HAS NOT RUN FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME SUCH AS BEING PARKED OVERNIGHT. TOOK TO A DEALER, WHO REPLACED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THAT RAN BY WIRE NOT CABLE. THIS WAS ELECTRIC AND COMPUTERIZED AND SOME SORT OF SIGNAL WENT THROUGH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND CAUSED THIS FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WILL IDLE, BUT LOST POWER. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR THE LAST 3 MONTHS. THE PROBLEM RECURRED EVEN AFTER THE REPLACEMENT OF 2 ACCELERATOR PEDALS. *AK
