CONSUMER EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS GETTING RECALLED TAILGATE REPAIRS COMPLETED ON 2003 CHEVROLET LD 1500.*MR IN GM'S COMPUTER THE TAILGATE RECALL APPEARD TO HAVE ALREADY BEEN DONE. THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THAT A MIXUP OCCURED SINCE HE ALSO OWNS A 2002 PICKUP. THE TAILGATE WAS REPLACED ON THE 2002 TRUCK BUT THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THEY MARKED THAT THE TAILGATE ON THE 2003 TRUCK WAS REPLACED INSTEAD. THE STEERING SHAFT WAS ALSO REPLACED. *NM
INTERMEDIATE SHAFT PROBLEM. HAS BEEN AN ISSUE SINCE 99 MODEL CHEVY/GMC TRUCKS. THE ONLY FIX THEY HAVE IS TO REMOVE THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT AND LUBE IT EVERY FEW THOUSAND MILES. AT ONE TIME GM WAS REPLACING THE SHAFTS WITH A NEW MODEL, HOWEVER THEY CANNOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND IT KEEPS OCCURRING. NOT SURE IF THE PROBLEM WOULD LEAD TO A POSSIBLE INJURY SITUATION.*JB
MAJOR REPAIRS FIRST THE AXLE SEAL STARTED LEAKING 24000 MILES,ALSO NOTIFIED MANUFACTURER DIDN'T GET REPAIR UNTIL , RETURN FOR CHECK AT 36000 ,I FIXED THE TRUCK MYSELF BECAUSE WASN'T GETTING SERVICE FROM DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED MY TRUCK,FLOW CHEVROLET,OF WINSTON SALEM. NOW I HAD NOTICED TICKING WHEN I WOULD START THE ENGINE COLD AND HAVE BEEN LEFT TO SETTLE WITH HAVING THE TRUCK REPAIRED WITH IT COSTING ME THE CONSUMER, EVEN IF ,THE DEALERSHIP I WORKING WITH ME. BUT AT 51000 OR BETTER I SHOULDN'T BEHAVING THESE TYPE OF REPAIRS. *JB
SOMETIMES THE SPEEDOMETER WORKS AND SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T. AT APPROXIMATELY 38,000 MILES THIS FIRST OCCURRED AND I CALLED A NEARBY DEALER TO SEE IF THEY COULD RESET THE COMPUTER THINKING THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. AT THE TIME THEY COULDN'T FIT ME IN AND ASKED THAT I SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT. I DISCUSSED THE PROBLEM WITH A CO-WORKER AND HIS 2004 HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND WAS IN THE SHOP. APPARENTLY IT HAS OCCURRED MANY TIMES BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP TOLD HIM IT WAS 4-7 WEEKS TO GET NEW PARTS OR THEY COULD SEND OUT HIS EXISTING PARTS TO BE REWORKED. THE DELAER HAS SAID THAT A BULLITIN HAS BEEN ISSUED BUT NO RECALL HAS BEEN ORDERED. I WOULD THINK THAT VEHICLES A YEAR OR TWO OLD SHOULD HAVE A WORKING SPEEDOMETER. THE WAY I HAVE FOUND TO FIX IT IS TO STOP AND REMOVE THE BATTERY CABLES AND LET THE COMPUTER RESET. SOMETIMES THE SPEEDOMETER GOES TO 120 MPH AND JUST STAYS THERE, EVEN WHEN THE TRUCK IS NOT RUNNING. I AM WONDERING IF THIS EFFECTS MY ANTI-LOCK BRAKES OR MY MILEAGE READINGS.*AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING THERE WAS A KNOCKING SOUND IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS OCCURRED WHILE TURNING LEFT AND RIGHT ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS AND DURING NORMAL STEERING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. UPON INSPECTION, THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE STEERING SHAFT WHICH REMEDIED THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED. UPDATED 03/03/06. *JB
MY SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER QUIT WORKING ALONG WITH A TAIL LIGHT MY MECHANIC SAID THE PART ALONE WOULD COST 300.00. I THOUGHT MY TACH WAS STILL WORKING UNTIL I GOT A 150.00 TICKET. I CAN'T AFFORD THAT MUCH ESPECIALLY WITH MY TICKET. *AK
PARKING BRAKE IS NOT HOLDING. I HAVE AN AUTOMATIC SILVERADO SS 6.0 V8 2003 MODEL. I STARTED TO ROLL DOWN A HILL BECAUSE MY BRAKES DIDN'T HOLD. THE ONLY THING THAT HELD WAS MY AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION GEARS AND THAT IS PUTTING A STRAIN ON THEM AND MAKES IT HARD TO TAKE IN AND OUT OF GEAR. *JB
DT: THE CALLER SAID THAT WHEN TURNING ON THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL THE HAZARD LIGHTS COME ON. HE SAID THEY GO OFF WHEN HE FINISHES THE TURN. IT STARTED WITHOUT WARNING ABOUT NINE MONTHS AGO, BUT HAS GOTTEN WORSE LATELY. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY TIME, BUT IT IS HAPPENING MORE OFTEN. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER CLAIM THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE AND THEY WILL OFFER NO HELP FOR FREE. *AK
AFTER HEARING GRINDING NOISES, I INSPECTED REAR BRAKES AND FOUND REAR INNER BRAKE PADS HAD PREMATURELY WORN OUT. AFTER DISASSEMBLING REAR BRAKES FOUND PADS FROZEN (STUCK) ON PAD GUIDES (HAD TO FORCE OFF WITH HAMMER) WHICH PREVENTED PADS RELEASING FROM ROTOR AND CAUSED UNEVEN AND PREMATURE WEAR OF PADS AND DESTROYED ROTORS. NEW PADS WERE PURCHASED AND UPON INSTALLATION REALIZED EVEN NEW PADS WOULD NOT SLIDE FREELY ON PAD GUIDES. LOCAL CHEVY DEALER STATES THEY ARE UNAWARE OF ANY KNOWN PROBLEMS. AFTER SEARCHING NUMEROUS FORUMS ON INTERNET AND SPEAKING WITH OTHER SILVERADO OWNERS FOUND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM YET MANUFACTURER DOES NOT WANT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. TO AVOID THIS PROBLEM FROM RECURRING I HAD GUIDE NOTCHES ON PADS MACHINED SLIGHTLY OVERSIZE THAN OEM. SO FAR NO PROBLEMS TO REPORT. IF I CAN FIGURE THIS OUT WHY CANT GM. *JB
CONSUMER COMPLAINT CONCERNING TRANSMISSION FAILURES ON 2003 SILVERADO. *TS THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS BURNT, THE REVERSE GEAR WAS INOPERABLE AND THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER WAS LOOSE. THE POWER STEERING FLUID WAS LOW. FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE GEAR BOX. THE FRONT SEAL ON THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS WORN AND LEAKING, AS WELL AS THE LOWER HOSE. THE WATER PUMP GASKET AND LOWER RADIATOR HOSE WAS LEAKING. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT HOLD A CHARGE. THE A/C WOULD ONLY BLOW OUT AIR FROM THE DEFROST VENTS. THE A/C HEATER MODE DOOR ACTUATOR WAS WORN. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FUEL FILTER WAS REPLACED. THE PANEL ON THE DRIVERS SEAT WAS WARPED. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED, HOWEVER MONTHS LATER ONE OF THE TIRES DEVELOPED A SLOW LEAK, DUE TO A PIN HOLE LOCATED IN THE SIDEWALL. THE REAR PADS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED. THE FRONT AND REAR SHOCKS WERE REPLACED. THE TAIL GATE SUPPORT CABLES WERE REPLACED. THE REAR TIRE BLEW OUT WHILE DRIVING. THE SECOND ROW SEAT BELT WAS INOPERATIVE. *JB
THE FUEL GAUGE STOPS WORKING ONCE THE VEHICLE BECOMES LOW ON GASOLINE. CONSUMER EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM FOR A WHILE, AND THE DEALER RESET THE COMPUTER. HOWEVER, VEHICLE SHUT OFF ON THE RAILROAD TRACKS, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE CONSUMER TO CLEAR THE TRACKS. VEHICLE HAD TO BE PUSHED.*AK
WINDSHEILD WIPER VARIABLE SPEED CONTROL DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY. WIPERS WILL NOT TURN OFF ONCE TURNED ON, THUS RUINING THE WIPERS IN LIGHT DRIZZLE/FOGGY CONDITIONS. INTERMITTANT SETTINGS DO NOT WORK AT ALL, WIPERS ONLY WORK IN NORMAL AND HIGH MODE.*AK
WHEN TURNING IN EITHER DIRECTION A GRINDING NOISE FROM THE DRIVE SHAFT WAS PRODUCED. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE STEERING SHAFT, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM STILL EXIST. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ON 2003 CHEV SILVERADO 1500HD IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. INSTRUMENTS READ WRONG OR DO NOT WORK AT ALL. BROUGHT TRUCK TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST OVER $700.00 TO FIX AND COULD NOT AFFORD IT. RECEIVED NOTICE FROM GM LAST WEEK SAYING THEY WOULD COVER UP TO 70,000 MILES, MY TRUCK HAS MORE THAN THAT NOW, BUT PROBLEM STARTED AT 50,000 MILES. GM SHOULD ISSUE A FULL RECALL AND TAKE CARE OF THIS HAZARD. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED FUEL SENDING UNIT FAILED TO REGISTER THE PROPER AMOUNT OF FUEL. CONSUMER FELT THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD RUN OUT OF FUEL WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED VIA PHONE. *AK
RECALL CAMPAIGN: THE CONSUMER TRIED TO CONTACT THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS TO HAVE RECALL THE RECALL (04V-129000) ON THE SUPPORT CABLE FIXED ON HIS TWO TRUCKS. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. *NM REFERENCE CONSUMER LETTER 10109434 REGARDING THE OTHER 2003 CHEVROLET 2500 ALSO OWNED BY THE COMPLAINANT. THE CONSUMER FEELS THE MANUFACTURER HAS HAD ENOUGH TIME TO PROVIDE THE DEALER WITH THE PARTS. *JB
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
WHILE SHIFTING GEARS DRIVER HEARD A LOUD CLANKING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED, AND REPROGRAMMED IT THREE TIMES. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
WHEN BRAKING AT ANY SPEED BRAKE PEDAL WOULD GO TO THE FLOOR, AND THERE WOULD BE EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK ABS DISPLAYED BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE BRAKES FAILED ON INCLINES. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL SHORT. THE ODOMETER FAILED AND ADDED EXTRA MILEAGE. THE TIRES STARTED SEPARATING AFTER 300 MILES. THE RADIO BECAME HOT AND SHORTED OUT. THE AIR CONDITIONER SHORTED OUT. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE NEW VEHICLE CHECKLIST WAS NOT FILLED OUT NOR REVIEWED WITH HIM. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE ENGINE KNOCKS. THE CONSUMERS FINGERS WERE BURNED BY THE RADIO AFTER IT GOT HOT. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT HE HEARD A GROWLING NOISE IN THE POWER STEERING. THE CONSUMER HEARD A BUZZING NOISE IN THE TRANSMISSION. THE CONSUMER HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE COMING DOWN A HILL. THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT WENT OUT AND TURNED BLACK. THE HEADLIGHT WAS REPLACED WITH THE WRONG HIGH BEAM LIGHT. THE CD PLAYER WILL NOT TAKE THE CD. THE SPEEDOMETER WILL ONLY GO TO 20 MPH AT TIMES. *TC
SPEEDOMETER READS ERRATICALLY WELL ABOVE OR BELOW ACTUAL SPEED OR MAY READ CORRECTLY THEN BECOME OFF BE A LITTLE OR A LOT WITHOUT WARNING. DEALER SAYS THEY HAVE HAD A RASH OF THESE FAILURES. COULD RESULT IN UNSAFE SPEEDS WITHOUT NOTICE. I FIRST NOTICED IT IN A 35 MPH ZONE WHEN THE SPEEDOMETER READ 35 AND I WAS PASSING EVERYONE QUICKLY. *JB
SPEEDOMETER READS ERRATICALLY EITHER HIGHOR LOW. WILL REGISTER VARIOUS SPEED WHEN STOPPED. SOMETIMES WILL WORK PROPERLY, THEN GO BAD AGAIN. 1ST NOTICED WHEN READ 35 MPH ON ROAD KEEPING UP WITH TRAFFIC IN 60MPH ZONE. DEALER SAY HE HAS SEEN A RUN ON THIS PROBLEM WITH 5-6 IN LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS. AT FIRST IT WOULD SEEM OKAY WHEN IT WARMED UP FOR 15-20 MINUTES NOW REALLY ERRATIC. REQUIRES MODULE REPLACEMENT AT $680 AND 7 DAYS TO GET PART. UNSAFE TO DRIVE WITH NO RELIABLE SPEED MEASURE. *AK
I OWN A 2003 CHEVROLET 1500 Z71 EXT CAB PICKUP. ON DEC 23, 2004 THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD NOT DECREASE ITS READING, EVEN IF THE VEHICLE WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP. THE SPEEDOMETER WILL ONLY DISPLAY THE INCORRECT SPEED OR TOP OUT AND NOT MOVE FROM 120MPH. WHEN I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED THEY NOTIFIED ME THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM AND THE PART THEY NEED TO FIX THE SPEEDOMETER IS ON BACK ORDER FOR A MINIMUM OF 30 DAYS.*AK
SPEEDOMETER HAS QUITE WORKING. THE ODOMETER ALL OTHER INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGES WORK. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEED FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIE ROD SNAPPED, CAUSING VEHICLE TO HIT A TREE. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
THE REAR DISC BRAKES WEAR OUT PREMATURELY. THEY WEAR COMPLETELY DOWN TO THE ROTORS BEFORE ONE IS AWARE THAT BRAKES ARE BAD. CONTACTED THE DEALER. HOWEVER, THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO ASSIST THE CONSUMER. *AK
PASSENGER SIDE ELECTRIC WINDOW WHEN ROLLING DOWN REALEASES DOOR LATCH AND DOOR SWINGS OPEN WHEN PARKED. *AK
I HAVE A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO .5 TON. I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR AND A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FOR THE LAST 8 MONTHS. MY SPEEDOMETER STARTED TO ACT VERY JITTERY FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS AND NOW IT DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. IT IS STUCK POINTING STRAIGHT DOWN. TWO DEALERS SAID THEY ARE SEEING THIS A LOT, AND HAVE A VERY LONG BACK ORDER FOR PARTS.*AK
CONSUMER WAS COMING FROM A ROAD TRIP. DURING THIS TRIP HE NOTICED THAT BRAKES FAILED. HE THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO GET SERVICED. THEY TOLD HIM THAT REAR ROTORS RUSTED. NO INJURIES REPORTED. *AK
THE SPEEDOMETER IN MY 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. THE NORMAL SPEED SHOWN NOW IS OVER 120 MPH WHILE MOVING OR STOPPED. ON RARE OCCASIONS THE SPEEDOMETER WILL REGISTER A LESSER SPEED FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME BUT THE NORMAL SPEED SHOWN IS 120 MPH OR HIGHER. THE ODOMETER WORKS WITHOUT A PROBLEM AS WELL AS ALL OTHER ELECTRICAL FUNCTIONS OF THE SPEEDOMETER OTHER THAN ACTUAL SPEED. PER MY MOST RECENT CONTACT WITH A GENERAL MOTORS DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT (MR. GOODWRENCH) THAT DEALER IS SEEING AN AVERAGE OF ONE SIMILAR VEHICLE PER DAY WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. NOT KNOWING THE ACTUAL TRAVELING SPEED OF THE VEHICLE WILL CERTAINLY LEAD TO TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES IF THIS HAS NOT ALREADY HAPPENED. I'VE NOW HAD TWO ESTIMATES TO REPAIR THE SPEEDOMETER. THE FIRST ESTIMATE WAS IN 12/2004 AND THE ESTIMATE WAS $1,000.00+ AND APPROXIMATELY 6 WEEKS IN THE SHOP. THE 2ND ESTIMATE WAS IN 12/2006 BY AN OUT OF STATE DEALER (WHO SAYS HE GETS ONE NEW REPAIR DAILY) AND THE COST WAS APPROXIMATELY $500 BUT IT WOULD TAKE SEVERAL DAYS TO DETERMINE WHAT COMPONENT PART WAS NEEDED AND SINCE I WAS TRAVELING INTERSTATE ON A YEAR END VACATION I COULDN'T WAIT FOR THE REPAIR. THIS DEALER SUGGESTED SOMEONE SHOULD CONTACT YOUR OFFICE BECAUSE THEY FELT A NON-OPERATIONAL SPEEDOMETER WAS A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH. *JB
GAS PEDAL STICKS. AS MORE AND MORE PRESSURE USED TO ENGAGE, TRUCK LURCHES AHEAD . DEALER PERFORMED FUEL SYSTEM FLUSH FOR $93.00 BUT DID NOT CORRECT PROBLEM. *AK
THE FRAME ON THE DRIVER'S FRONT BACK OF THE FRONT WHEEL SIDE WAS 1/2 INCH LOWER THAN THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE CONDITION CARRIED ALL THE WAY TO THE BACK OF THE TRUCK FRAME AND TO THE BACK SPRINGS. *SC *JB
PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION HARD SHIFT FROM 1 TO 2ND AND AT TIMES WON'T SHIFT UNTIL YOU RELEASE GAS AND STEP ON GAS AGAIN. SOMETIMES WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOP TRANSMISSION SLIPS, CAUSING VEHICLE NOT TO MOVE, THEN ENGAGES WHEN RPMS IS HIGH CAUSING VEHICLE TO JERK INTO GEAR. *JB
COMPUTER GOES HAYWIRE BY LIGHTING ALL KIND OF IMFORMATION AND SOUNDING THE BUZZER.( COMPUTER STOPS ACTING OUT AFTER ONE TURN VEHICLE OFF AND STAR ENGINE AGAIN). STEERING WHEELS HAS A KNOCK WHICH IS GETTING WORSE AS TIME GOES ON. PASSENGER WINDOW MALFUNCTION, DOES NOT OPERATE. ( UP OR DOWN).
WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL THING GO WRONG WITH OUR TRUCK. WE HAVE HAD THE EXPANDABLE MIRRORS REPLACED ONCE AND FIXED SEVERAL TIMES, THE TRANSMISSION WAS REBUILT, THE SPEEDOMETER QUIT WORKING AND THE MEMORY DOES NOT RECALL THE DRIVER OR SEAT POSITION. *AK
POTENTIAL BRAKE FAILURE ON NEW VEHICLE. 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO INFORMATION CENTER INDICATED "REDUCED BRAKE POWER." CHEVY DEALERSHIP IN NEW MEXICO INDICATED THE INTAKE MANIFOLD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE VACUUM FOR BRAKE ASSIST. NEW MEXICO CHEVY DEALER DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX AND I WAS TRAVELING, SO THEY FLASHED THE IPC CARD TO ELIMINATE THE MESSAGE. I RETURNED TO HOUSTON, TX AND WESTSIDE CHEVROLET FLASHED THE IPC IN AN ATTEMPT TO MASK THE PROBLEMS AND TOLD ME IT WAS FIXED. *JB

THIS CLAIM IS ON A CHEVY SILVERADO 3500 DIESEL TRUCK THAT I BOUGHT NEW. AROUND 30,000 MILES THIS VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR CLUTCH PROBLEMS 3 TIMES, BRAKES GOING TO THE FLOOR, THE WINDSHIELD COMING LOOSE, RADIO PROBLEMS, STEERING PROBLEMS AND TIRE WEAR. GENERAL MOTORS, THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU AND THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WAS CONTACTED AN ASSURED ME THIS TRUCK WAS NOT A LEMON, I SAID IT WAS. NOW BETWEEN 30,000 AND 90,000 MILES I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS. I HAD THE DOORS LOCK FOR NO REASON AT ALL, LOCK BY THEMSELVES. BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOORS HAVE HUNG AT THE FENDER CAUSING MASSIVE DENTS WHERE I HAD TO FORCE THE DOORS OPEN DUE TO CONTACT BETWEEN THE DOOR AND FENDER. THE INITIAL BRAKE PROBLEM HAS COME BACK. I HAD A WATER LEAK IN THE CAB AROUND THE LIGHTS, THAT CAUSED WATER DAMAGE TO THE SEATS. I REWIRED THE REAR LIGHTS, BECAUSE THE CIRCUIT BOARD WENT OUT SEVERAL TIMES. FOUR SETS OF TIRES HAVE BEEN PLACED ON THIS TRUCK AT 90,000 MILES (TIRES COST AROUND $1,000 A SET). I HAVE TRIED THREE BRANDS OF TIRES. THEY ARE GENERALS (6 PLY), GEO TRAC (10 PLY), AND TOYO (10 PLY). THE DASH SYSTEM IS GOING OUT (DASH COSTS $1200). THE TRUCK IS LACKING POWER WHEN PULLING AND TODAY 7/28/2010 THE CLUTCH ALMOST CAME OUT DURING NORMAL DRIVING AT 90,232 MILES (PROBABLY WILL COST BETWEEN $2,000 AND $3,000 IF NOT MORE). THE ENGINE OIL PLUS FILTER, THE FUEL FILTERS, AND GREASING OF THE TIE ROD ENDS ARE ALL DONE PER MANUFACTURES SPECIFICATIONS. THIS TRUCK HAS NEVER BEEN IN A WRECK, BUT LOOKING AT THE DOOR AND FENDER PROBLEM, ONE WOULD THINK IT HAS. THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FROM DAY ONE. IT IS A LEMON AND A SAFETY HAZARD. THE LEMON LAW WAS CHANGED FROM THREE FAILURES TO FOUR FAILURES DURING THE TIME THIS HAPPENED. NOW THE VEHICLE LEMON LAW YEAR IS ANY VEHICLE 2004 OR AFTER. THIS TRUCK IS A 2003 MODEL. IT IS TIME ALL PARTIES INVOLVED COME TO THE TABLE AND DEAL. THE VEHICLE HAD AN OIL LEAK BETWEEN THE CLUTCH AND THE ENGINE THAT WAS NEVER FIXED. THE ENGINE WAS NOT RUNNING AT FULL RPM. THE DEALERSHIP INSPECTED THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES AND WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A PROBLEM WITHIN THE HEATING SYSTEM. UPDATED 2/13/2006 - THE DEALER REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT AND OTHER COMPONENTS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. *NM
WHEN YOU TURN THE STEERING WHEEL, YOU CAN HEAR A NOISE AND THERE IS A VIBRATION IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALER, AND THE LOWER STEERING COUPLING WAS DEFECTIVE. IT IS ON BACK ORDER. *NM

DEFECTIVE SEAL IN STEERING MECHANISM. ( IN THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT ) A REPAIR KIT IS OFFERED BUT IS ONLY TEMPORARY FIX. WAS INFORMED BY DEALER THAT THIS IS COMMON AND MAY HAVE TO BE REPEATED EVERY 15 TO 20,000 MILES AT OWNERS COST. NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. *AK

SEVERE TIRE PULLS, LEFT FRONT TIRE DEVELOPED MOST PULL. EVEN DEVELOPED A SMALL BULGE IN THE TIRE TREAD ITSELF. CONDITION WORSENED WITH MILEAGE. CONSUMER TOOK HIS TRUCK TO 4WP STORE AND ASKED THEM TO REPLACE DEFECTIVE TIRES UNDER PURCHASED WARRANTY. STORE MANAGER STATED THAT THE TIRE PULLS WERE COMMON AMONG ALL TIRE BRANDS AND FAILED TO REPLACE TIRES UNDER WARRANTY. CONSUMER AT A LATER TIME REPLACED WORN SUSPENSION PARTS DUE TO OUT OF BALANCE CONDITION AND VIBRATION CAUSED BY TIRE BULGES. I WAS RETURNING HOME FROM MY DOCTOR IN MY 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO ON WV RT. #3, IN BECKLEY, WV, TRAVELING AT A SPEED LESS THAN 30 MPH, WHEN THE RT. REAR TIRE RUPTURED ON THE INSIDE SIDEWALL; I HAD NOT HIT OR RUN OVER ANY OBJECT, AND THE TIRE SHOWS NO TRAUMA TO ITS CARCASS. *JB
