TL*- THE CONTACT HAS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO WITH A CURRENT ODOMETER OF 60,000 MILES. ON 5-13-04 THE BRAKES FAILED. THE CONTACT HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. ON 10-17-04 THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND THEY TOLD THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE VEHICLE HAULING ITEMS, BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE A HITCH TO HAUL ANYTHING. *AK
ALONG WITH AT LEAST A DOZEN OTHER COMPLAINTS FILED WITH NHTSA I ALSO HAVE CONCERNS WITH THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT SECTORON MY 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD MAKING A RATTLING , CLICKING NOISE ESPICALLY WHEN TURNING. WHAT IS THE CRITERIA TO GET GM TO ANNOUNCE A RECALL? I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BEFORE MORE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES OCCUR. SO FAR I HAVE MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD LOOK AT IT AND POSSIBLY REPLACE THE SECTOR OR PLACE A LUBRICATION KIT IN IT.IN READING OTHER COMPLAINTS IT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE THIS RESOLVES THE PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY BUT THIS HAS BEEN ONGOING BEFORE THE WARRANTY EXPIRATION. I WOULD BE HAPPYTO ALLOW AND ENCOURAGE YOU TO FORWARD THIS TO GM FOR ACTION.
1. -POOR DESIGN OF STEERING SHAFT THAT ALLOWS LOWER SHAFT TO BECOME VERY LOOSE AND COULD RESULT IN LOOSE OR FAILED STEERING 2.- FAILED STEERING COLLISION 3. -LOWER SHAFT LUBRICATED IT FAILED. SHAFT HAS BEEN REPLACED EVER YEAR DURING THE LAST 3 YEARS AND NOW GENERAL MOTORS REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. *NM
STEERING CLUNKS ON TURNS. DEALER REPLACED INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT UNDER WARRANTY PER TSB. PROBLEM RESURFACED ON 09/29/2006 AT 44,045 MILES. DEALER REPAIRED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY . PROBLEM SHOWED UP AGAIN ON 06/17/2007 AT 54, 451 MILES. DEALER WANTED $280 FOR THE JOB. HAVE NOT REPAIRED. THE PROBLEM IS NOW WORSE AT 84,618 MILES. PROBLEM # 2 STOP LIGHT SOCKETS HEAT UP AND LOOSE CONTACT TO THE BULB. DEALER WANTS AROUND $75 FOR EACH OF THE TWO SOCKETS REQUIRED. PROBLEM #3 RECEIVED NOTICE FROM GMAC STATING THERE MAY BE AN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PROBLEM. DON'T COME TO THE DEALER UNLESS YOU ARE EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM. GM EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 7 YEARS OR 70,000 MILES. NATURALLY, MY GAUGES FAILED AT 79,000 AND 7 YEARS AND 10 MONTHS. DEALER WANTS OVER $400 FOR PARTS ALONE. UPDATED 07/05/11 *BF UPDATED 02/03/12
WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS VEHICLE LOSET POWER STEERING CONTROL. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE POWER ASSIST PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS LEAKING FLUID. *AK
TIRE JUST FELL APART ON THE THRUWAY. LUCKILY MY WIFE AND I ARE OK. I AM GOING TODAY TO BUY NEW TIRES. I WILL NOT KEEP OR OWN FIRESTONE TIRES AGAIN. THIS WAS NOT A BLOWOUT, THE TIRE FAILED. *NM
WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED CONSUMER COULD FEEL VIBRATION IN FRONT OF VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE REAR END. AFTER REPAIRS CONSUMER WAS STILL HAVING PROBLEMS. *AK
2003 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 SERIES. STEERING PROBLEMS EVERY YEAR OR TWO SINCE WE HAVE HAD IT. I THINK ALMOST THE WHOLE STEERING SYSTEM HAS BEEN WORKED ON OR REPLACED SINCE WE HAVE HAD THIS TRUCK, BUT NEVER A RECALL ON IT FOR THIS PROBLEM. DATES OF WORK: 9-23-04,10-18-04, 9-29-06,10-23-0811-10-08 AND ALSO SOMETIME AROUND AUGUST OF 2009. I AM ALREADY HAVE MORE PROBLEMS WITH THE SAME THING AGAIN. WHY HASN'T THERE BEEN ANY RECALL ON THIS MATTER. *TR
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES BRAKE PEDAL WENT THE FLOOR, AND THE PEDAL WAS HARD TO PUSH DOWN. CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE MORE HE PUSHED THE LESS BRAKING POWER HE RECEIVED. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO CORROSION. *AK
CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL 04V129000 CONCERNING TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLE IN APRIL 2004. CONTACTED DEALER, AND WAS TOLD THAT THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WERE UNAVAILABLE. WHEN WILL PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE? WAS UNDETERMINED. *AK THE PART FINALLY BECAME AVAILABLE OCTOBER 5, 2004. *NM
WHILE DRIVING TRANSMISSION SLIPPED GEARS, CAUSING THE CONSUMER TO DRIVE IN FIRST GEAR. DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THE PROBLEM ONCE, BUT PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
WHEN MAKING LEFT OR RIGHT TURNS, THERE IS A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE. WHEN STARTING UP, THE STEERING LOCKS UP AND YOU MUST JERK IT TO BREAK LOOSE. OWNER HAS CONTACTED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM. PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *NM
VEHICLE STARTED BY ITSELF. THERE WERE NO KEYS IN IT. DEALER SERVICED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND NO DEFECTS. WHILE OUT OF TOWN THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN RUNNING ON ITS OWN BECAUSE CONSUMER LEFT THE VEHICLE FULL OF GAS AND FOUND IT HALF EMPTY UPON RETURNING. THIS HAPPENED WHILE CONSUMER WAS IN THE VEHICLE, ALL GAUGES WENT WILD.*AK
THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. *JB
WHILE DRIVING THE CONSUMER SMELLED EXCESSIVE SMOKE COMING FROM THE EXHAUST PIPE, FOLLOWED BY LOW OIL PRESSURE, AND THE CRANK CASE GETTING FULL OF DIESEL. THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT FUEL INJECTION BLEW OUT. THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM, AND THE MANUFACTURER EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THIS PART. THIS PART HAD BEEN ON BACK ORDER FOR FOUR WEEKS. *AK *SC
WHEN TURNING AT ANY SPEED CONSUMER CAN HEAR A RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. VEHICLE IS CONTROLLABLE WHEN THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS. AT THE DEALERSHIP, MECHANIC INDICATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN AND WOULD NEED TO ORDER PARTS TO CORRECT IT. CONSUMER IS STILL WAITING FOR PARTS TO COME IN. *AK........DEALERSHIP LNDICATED THAT THEY HAVE HUNDREDS OF REPAIR PARTS ON ORDER, BUT RECEIVED NON E AS OF 12/28/2004.
CONSUMER NOTICED THAT FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL. WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES THE PEDAL HAD SLIGHT HESITATION. THEN, THE VEHICLE STOPPED, AND A NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE FRONT. CONSUMER DROVE VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
VEH HAS A CONSTANT PULSATION WHILE DRIVING AND ALSO AT HIGHER SPEEDS IN CRUISE CONTROL AND A FEW TIMES FELT LIKE VEH WAS GOING TO STALL WHILE IN CRUISE CONTROL . *AK
WHILE DRIVING SRS LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AND REMAINED ON. CONSUMER =DROVE THE VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION. BUT, DRIVER INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. *AK
WHEN LOADING AND GOING AROUND CURVES AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WILL GO INTO NEUTRAL WITH GEAR SHIFT STILL IN DRIVE. THE MOTOR RACED, AND VEHICLE WAS IN SHOP TWICE. *AK
CONSUMER WAS STANDING ON THE TAILGATE WHEN CABLES BROKE. AS A RESULT, CONSUMER WAS THROWN TO THE GROUND. NO INJURIES REPORTED. *AK
DT: THE CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT SEVERAL PROBLEMS. WHILE DRIVING HE HAD TROUBLE SHIFTING FROM FIRST GEAR. THE DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE AND THE TRANSMISSION MODULE CONTROL. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL SHIFTING HARD, AND THE RPMS REVVED. THE REPLACEMENT OF THE AFOREMENTIONED DID NOT REMEDY THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. THE SECOND PROBLEM WAS WITH THE BRAKE LIGHT COMING ON THE CLUSTER ASSEMBLY. THE SERVICE DEALER REPLACED IT, AND IT SEEMED TO WORK WELL AT THIS TIME. THE THIRD PROBLEM WAS WITH A NOISE IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE GEAR KIT, TWO GASKETS, CASE, THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSEMBLY, CARRIER GEARS, AND SHIMS. THE NOISE WAS STILL HEARD. THE DEALER RECOMMENDED THAT THE CONTACT INSTALL CARPET TO CUT DOWN ON THE NOISE. THE FINAL PROBLEM WAS WITH A LOSS OF REAR TRACTION. THE DEALER HAS BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL IN IDENTIFYING THE ROOT OF THE TRACTION PROBLEM.*AK THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING. UPDATD 11/29/05. *JB
WITHOUT ANY WARNING, THE REAR AXLE ON THE DRIVER SIDE BROKE WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH. NO INJURY WAS REPORTED. *JB
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT PASSENGER'S SIDE SEAT BELT. WHEN THE PASSENGER WAS STRAPPED IN AND LEANED FORWARD THE SEAT BELT TIGHTENED INADVERTENTLY. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND COMPLAINED TO THE MANUFACTURER. WAS TOLD THAT THE SEAT BELTS MET SPECIFICATIONS, AND THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO. *AK
I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK BRAND NEW. I AM 77 AND A RETIRED FORMER MECHANIC. THE TRUCK HAS 4 WHEEL DISK BRAKES AND A SEPARATE INNER DRUM ON THE REAR BRAKES FOR THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. IT IS USELESS! THE SHOES ARE VERY EXPENSIVE A PAIN TO REPLACE AND DON'T WORK VERY WELL OR LAST VERY LONG. A POOR ENGINEERING DESIGN. I AM WIDOWED A DON'T HAVE ANYONE IN MY PASSENGER SEAT VERY OFTEN. THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT TIGHTENS ON THE PASSENGER AS I AM DRIVING DOING NORMAL STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. IT WILL NOT RELEASE UNTIL THE BELT IS UNLATCHED AND ROLLED ALL THE WAY BACK IN AND THEN WE START OVER AGAIN. WHEN THE TRUCK WAS UNDER WARRANTY I TOOK IT TO A DEALER BUT THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. I HAVE TRIED TO FIND A CLIP I COULD USE TO HOLD SLACK IN IT BUT HAVE NOT BEEN SUCCESSFUL.
WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT COLLISION. UPON IMPACT, DUAL AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DRIVER SUSTAINED HEAD INJURIES DUE TO HIS HEAD HITTING THE STEERING WHEEL.*AK THE CHEVROLET TESTERS CAME TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THEY CONCLUDED THAT THE IMPACT WAS NOT HARD ENOUGH NOR WAS THE VEHICLE GOING FAST ENOUGH FOR THE AIR BAG TO DEPLOY. *NM
2003 2500 SILVARADO WITH 36,000 MILES. SO FAR THE TRANSFER CASE SHIFTING MODULE (DROPPED ITSELF INOT 4 LOW AT 70 MPH), TRANSMISSION (BECAME SO SLOPPY THAT IT SLAMMED PASSENGERS AROUND HAD TO BE REBUILT), AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR (QUIT WORKING AND THE NEW ONE WORKS POORLY), FUEL PUMP (DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF UTAH AND TOOK 4 DAYS TO GET THE PART), RADIO (HAD MULTIPLE PROBLEMS HAD TO BE REPLACED AFTER 4 VISITS), KEYLESS REMOTE FAILURES, AND 4 RECALLS. *AK
FUEL INJECTORS REPLACED ALL 8 INJECTORS AT 34901 MILES, AGAIN AT 85039, AND AGAIN AT 141,000 AND NOW AGAIN AT 185,000. *TR
THE ENGINE SENSOR CONTINUED TO STAY ON WITHOUT WARNING . THE CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE WILL STALL WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL MODULE SEAL, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM STILL CONTINUED. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB *TC
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP BRAKE PEDAL PROCEEDED TO THE FLOOR AND VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ROLL. AS A RESULT, CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION. *AK
2003 CHEVY 1500HD TAKEN TO 3 DIFFERENT DEALERS FOR A VIBRATION IN RUNNING GEAR, LAST DEALER INSTRUCTED ME TO LOWER TIRE PRESSURE FROM 50 IN FRONT AND 80 IN THE REAR TO 45 POUNDS ALL AROUND. THIS IS HALF THE RECOMMENED PRESSURE OF THE TRUCK AND I ASKED IF THIS WOULD BE SAFE, I WAS TOLD NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT STATED A POPPING AND CRACKING NOISE FROM THE STEERING WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL AT LOW SPEEDS. THE CONTACTED TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. ALTHOUGH THE DEALER DID NOT INSPECT THE VEHICLE HE SUGGESTED REPLACING THE MID SHAFT OF THE STEERING. *AK
I PURCHASED A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO DURAMAX IN 4/04 USED WITH 21,020 MILES. AT ABOUT 28,000 IT STARTED TO SMOKE UPON ACCELERATION. THIS IS A VERY THICK BLUE SMOKE. THE DEALER HAS LOOKED AT IT TWICE AND SAYS THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. BUT I THINK IF I HAVE TO GET IT CHECKED FOR EMISSIONS THAT IT WOULD FAIL MISERABLY. IT NOW HAS APPROX. 45,000 MILES BUT IS STILL COVERED WITH AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO ABOUT 72,000.*AK
I HAVE A 2003 CHEVROLET PICKUP WITH APPROX. 26,000 MILES ON IT AND THE TRANSMISSION CLUNKS LOUDLY WHEN UPSHIFTING AND DOWNSHIFTING AND GETS WORSE BY THE WEEK. IT IS NOW SLAMMING INTO GEAR AND I AM AFRFAID TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE IT MIGHT FAIL AT SPEED OR IN TRAFFIC AND I AM AFRAID IT MAY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER BOTH SAY IT IS A NORMAL CONDITION AND THEY HAVE NOT HAD ANY COMPLAINTS OF THIS TYPE BUT THERE IS A BULLETIN OUT ABOUT IT. I AM CONCERNED THAT THEY MAY BE TRYING TO COVER UP AN APPARENT DEFECT ON THE AFFECTED VEHICLES. THIS WAS MY HUSBANDS TRUCK, WHO PASSED AWAY IN APRIL AND I NEED IT TO HAUL VARIOUS THINGS TO THE FARM WHICH IS A 6 HR. DRIVE BUT NOW I AM AFRAID TO MAKE THE TRIPS IN THIS VEHICLE. WHEN SHIFTING GEARS, THE CONSUMER HEARD A DISTURBING NOISE COMING FROM THE CLUTCH. *JB INITIALLY RTHE DEALER REPLACED THE U-JOINT BUT THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY REPLACED THE UPPER INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT. *NM
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED VEHICLE PULLED TO LEFT. DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE LEAF COIL SPRING AND TWO SPACE BARS. BUT, PROBLEM STILL RECURRED. MANUFACTURER ADMITTED THERE WAS A PROBLEM ,BUT THEY DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO RESOLVE IT. *AK
AIR CONDITIONING WILL BLOW HOT AIR, IF YOU PRESS THE SWITCH MOST OF THE TIME IT WILL START WORKING PROPERLY. *LA
FRONT STEERING KNUCKLE PRODUCED A RATTLING SOUND WHEN TURNING IN EITHER DIRECTION. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *AK
ABNORMAL NOISE HEARD COMING FROM THE DRIVELINE WHEN SLOWING DOWN.*MR *JB
I PURCHASED A NEW CHEVROLET SILVERADO TRUCK ON 8/15/2003. I DROVE IT 15,000 MILES AND THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT AND WAS REPLACED. ON ANOTHER TRIP RETURNING FROM DENVER TO DURANGO I WAS DRIVING ON A MOUNTAIN ROAD WHEN THE BACK WHEELS SUDDENLY, WITHOUT WARNING LOCKED UP. THIS CAUSED THE TRUCK TO GO INTO AN UNCONTROLLED SKID AND I CRASHED INTO THE SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN. THE TRUCK BOUNCED BACK INTO THE ROAD AND ALMOST FORCED OTHER CARS OFF THE HIGHWAY. THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY WAS VERY STEEP WITH NO GUARDRAIL. HAD I SKIDDED THAT DIRECTION, I WOULD HAVE TUMBLED SOME 200 FEET OR MORE. TO ADD TO THIS THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY UPON DIRECT FRONTAL IMPACT WITH THE MOUNTAIN. ALL OF THIS INFORMATION WAS NOTED IN THE COLORADO HIGHWAY PATROL ACCIDENT REPORT # 908FZEH21P. GENERAL MOTORS HAS ACCEPTED RESPONSIBILITY BUT 10+ WEEKS LATER HAS NOT REPLACED THE TOTALED TRUCK!*AK
2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLES SNAPPED IN HALF WHILE LOADING AN ATV AND SEVERELY DAMAGED THE TAILGATE AND RE-INJURED A SPRAINED RIGHT ANKLE. IF IT WASN'T FOR A COMMERCIAL GRADE DROP TRAILER HITCH THIS ACCIDENT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A MUCH MORE SERIOUS BODILY HARM. BOTH DIGITAL PICTURES WERE TAKEN AND THE TAILGATE HAS BEEN SENT TO COLONIAL WEST CHEVY IN FITCHBURG MASS. FOR IMMEDIATE REPAIR. I WOULDN'T BE SURPRISED IF THERE'S NOT A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT AB OUT THIS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING, THE CONSUMER NOTICED THE SPEEDOMETER WAS NOT WORKING. THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE HOW FAST HE WAS TRAVELING. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *JB
WHEN CHANGING A FLAT TIRE ON A PICK UP TRUCK THE O E M BOTTLE JACK COLLAPSED NEARLY INJURING AN EMPLOYEE. THE BASE OF JACK CAME APART AT THE FOUR CRIMPED PLACES WHICH RE USED IN PLACE OF WELDS, RIVETS OR BOLTS. THESE JACKS NEED TO BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED! WE REPLACED THE JACK WITH A HYDRAULIC JACK. WE STILL HAVE THE FAILED JACK AND WILL TAKE DIGITAL PICTURES OF IT.*AK *NM
DT: 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONSUMER STATED THE STEERING WAS POPPING. THIS WOULD OCCUR WHEN VEHICLE WOULD HIT A LITTLE BUMP OR TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AT 20,000 MILES, AND THEY REPLACED THE STEERING SHAFT ON JUNE 21, 2004. WHILE WAITING FOR THE PARTS TO HAVE THE TAILGATE RECALL 04V129000 REPAIRS PERFORMED THE RIGHT TAILGATE CABLE BROKE, AND THE TAILGATE FELL ON THE CONSUMER'S HAND. THIS OCCURRED WHILE VEHICLE WAS BEING LOADED. *AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED HE COULD SMELL SMOKE FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC MADE UNKNOWN REPAIRS TO THE BRAKES AND ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEMS. THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHIN 20,000 MILES. THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKES HAD BEEN REPAIRED THREE TIMES BY HIS MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE MECHANIC WHERE HE WAS ADVISED THAT THE BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF ROAD SALTS AND MUDDY ROAD CONDITIONS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK IN A PARKING LOT VEHICLE SWERVED TO THE LEFT AND COLLIDED WITH A TREE. CONSUMER EXAMINED THE UNDER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, AND DISCOVERED THAT THE LEFT TIE ROD BROKE. DEALER CLAIMED THAT THE COLLISION CAUSED THE TIE ROD TO BREAK. CONSUMER WAS NOT INJURED IN THE COLLISION, AND NO OTHER VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED.*AK FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM HAD TO BE REPLACED AND FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED. *TT

DT: THE CONTACT STATES THERE IS NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN 04V045000 CONCERNING THE SERVICE BRAKES. THIS VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL, BUT IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. THE VEHICLE IS SCHEDULED FOR INSPECTION BY A DEALER.*AK
