WHILE DRIVING 55-60 MPH WHEN VEHICLE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED TRANSMISSION SHIFTED TO THIRD/FOURTH/FIFTH, AND SIXTH GEARS, FLOWING VEHICLE AD ENGINE IDLED HIGH. CONSUMER ONLY NOTICED THIS PROBLEM WHEN THE TOW BUTTON WAS DEPRESSED. *AK
INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT NOISE CAUSED BY WEAR OR BAD PART DESIGN BY G.M. IN MY OPINION I THINK THIS WEAR COULD LEAD TO A STEERING FAILURE WHICH IS NOT G.M.'S OPINION. *NM
STEERING SYSTEM EXHIBITS BUMPING VIBRATION AT ALL SPEEDS, WHICH DEALER ATTRIBUTES TO INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT PROBLEM WHICH HAS BEEN ACKNOWLEDGED BY MANUFACTURER. CURRENTLY, NO PERMANENT FIX IS AVAILABLE, AND TEMPORARY FIX INVOLVES REPACKING SHAFT WITH GREASE AT 10K INTERVAL. *NM
WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. CONSUMER DROVE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO A WORN OUT SHAFT, AND LACK OF STEERING COLUMN LUBRICATION. CONSUMER INFORMED THE MECHANIC THAT THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
WHEN TURNING TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT VEHICLE PRODUCED A LOUD NOISE. *AK IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT IN THE STEERING NEEDED TO BE REPALCED, HOWEVER THE PART WAS ON BACKORDER. *JB
I BOUGHT A NEW 2003 CHEVY EXPRESS CARGO VAN (2500) IN 2003.WHEN THIS VEHICLE IS UNDER LOAD,TRAVELING ON ROADS WITH SIX/SEVEN PERCENT DOWNHILL GRADES,THE FRONT END SHAKES VIOLENTLY. SIMPLY TAPPING THE BRAKES WILL NOT BRING IT UNDER CONTROL,YOU HAVE TO LITERALLY SLAM ON THE BRAKES,OR TAKE THE RISK OF BEING TOSSED OFF THE HIGHWAY.THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN STRESSED IN ANY WAY (WRECKS,HITTING CURBS,ETC) THE DEALER IS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. I WANT A DEALERSHIP TO TAKE IT,WITH ME,TO A ROAD OF MY ABOVE DESCRIPTION AND FIND THIS PROBLEM AND FIX IT. I AM POSITIVE I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON WITH THIS MODEL VAN,WITH THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE COME VERY CLOSE TO ETERNITY IN THIS VAN BECAUSE OF THIS MALFUNCTION.I HAVE NOT DRIVEN THE VAN IN THREE MONTHS BECAUSE OF ANXIETY WITH THE PROBLEM. DYING IN A CHEVY VAN BECAUSE OF SOMETHING LIKE THIS IS NO PART OF WHAT I WANT IN MY FUTURE.
CONSUMER STATED THAT VEHICLE'S EXTENDED MIRROR DID NOT EXTEND FAR ENOUGH AS A RESULT, AN EXCESSIVE BLIND SPOT WAS PRODUCED. *AK THE CONSUMER FEELS THAT IF THE MIRROR WERE EXTENDED TWO MORE INCHES VISIBILITY WOULD BE GREATLY IMPROVED. *NM
WHILE DRIVING TO THE DOCTOR I HEARD A LOUD METAL ON METAL CLUNK SOUND FROM TRANSMISSION HUMP. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING, VEHICLE STARTED MISSING LIKE IT WAS OUT OF GAS AND STALLED. IN APPROXIMATELY 2 SECONDS THE FUEL GUAGE WENT FROM READING 1/4 TANK TO EMPTY.*AK SERVICE DEPT INFORMED US THAT THE ELECTRONIC FLOAT DEVICE LOCATED INSIDE THE FUEL TANK HAD FAILED. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE REASON IT FAILED WAS DUE TO THE FACT THAT GASOLINE DESTROYS THEM. WE CAN EXPECT TO EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM INDEFINATELY BECAUSE GM HAS NO REPLACEMENT PART THAT WORKS . THE DEALER INFORMED US THAT GM IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND THAT ALL PICK UP TRUCKS MADE BY GM HAVE THIS PART AND WILL EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM AT SOME POINT IN TIME. IN OTHER WORDS, YOU HAVE NO ACCURATE FUEL GUAGE AND SHOULD KEEP YOUR TRUCK AS FULL OF GAS AS POSSIBLE AT ALL TIMES.
THE STEERING SHAFT WAS DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED THREE TIMES. THE DEALER ORDERED THE PART, AND IT HAS BEEN SEVERAL MONTHS, BUT THE PARTS WERE STILL NOT AVAILABLE. *AK THERE WAS A POPPING AND CRACKING SOUND. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE UPPER INTERMEDIATE SHAFT. *SC THE PART WAS FINALLY REPLACED. *JB
MY 1 1/2 YEAR OLD 2003 CHEVROLET PICKUP TRUCK, AFTER DOING WHAT IT SAYS IN ONE OF YOUR BULLETINS, CD GETS HOT, EJECTS CD, AND RESETS CLOCK TO 12:00, QUIT WORKING. WHILE I DRIVE A LOT AND THE TRUCK HAS 54000 MILES ON IT, THE STEREO HAS NEVER TOUCHED THE PAVEMENT, AND DOES NOT HAVE 54000 MILES ON IT, YET, CHEVROLET REFUSES TO REPLACE THIS DEFECTIVE STEREO SYSTEM. WHICH MEANS, I GUESS, THAT THEY HAVE A LIFE EXPECTANCY, OF THEIR STEREO SYSTEMS, OF 1 1/2 YEARS. NO HELP FROM THE DEALER, OR GENERAL MOTORS AT ALL WITH THIS COMPLAINT. THEY OFFERED TO REPLACE FOR 450.00, WHICH IS IDIOTIC TO GET REPLACED IF THEY ARE NOT GOING TO STAND BEHIND IT WHEN IT GOES BAD IN 1 1/2 YEARS. HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED IN GENERAL MOTORS LACK OF BACKING OF THEIR PRODUCTS. *LA
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL. CONSUMER DROVE THE VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED HYDRAULIC BOOSTER SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO LEAKAGE. *AK
THE VAN I PURCHASED HAS UNACCEPTABLE SEAT BELTS ON THE REAR BENCH. THE LAP BELT PORTION OF THE SEAT BELT RIDES TOO HIGH. IT RIDES UP UNDER THE ARM PITS OF A SMALLER PERSON, RATHER THAN ACROSS THE HIP BONES. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD IF WE WERE EVER INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WITH THIS VEHICLE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE PORTION OF THE BELT BOLTED TO THE FLOOR WITH A SHORTER BELT, BUT THIS DID NOT ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM.
1. POOR RIDE, VIBRATION, WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. MOSTLY BETWEEN 35 TO 50 MPH. HAD THE PROBLEM WITH "STOCK" TIRES. REPLACED WITH AFTER MARKET TIRES, SLIGHTLY LARGER. STILL HAD ANNOYING VIBRATION. TO A POINT THAT I DO NOT LIKE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE! 2. FUEL ECONOMY SUCKS! I "UPGRADED" FROM MY '92 GMC PICKUP WHICH GAVE ME 12 TO 14 MPG AROUND TOWN TO 15 TO 18 MPG ON A TRIP; TO MY "NEW" CHEV. WHICH IS GOOD FOR ABOUT 9.5 TO 9.8 MPG AROUND TOWN AND THE BEST EVER, ON A TRIP WAS 13.4 MPG!!! 3. THE BENCH-TYPE SEAT IS NOT ADJUSTABLE TO REMOVE THE "VEE" FEELING WHEN DRIVING. 4. THE SELF-DARKENING MIRRORS ARE A HAZARD WHEN TRYING TO BACKUP OR CHANGE LANES! 5. THE PASSENGER FRONT SEATBELT LOCKSUP AND CAN'T BE FREED UNLESS YOU UNBUCKLE AND REATTACH THE BELT, ONLY TO HAVE IT LOCKUP AGAIN! I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE BACK TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS ON THREE SEPERATE OCCASIONS PRINCIPALLY FOR THE MILEAGE AND THE VERY ANNOYING VIBRATION! I HAVE CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS, ALSO WITH NO SUCCESS! I'VE CHANGED TIRES, ASKED TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION CHECKED FOR THE VIBRATION, ONLY TO HAVE SEPERATE SERVICE MANAGERS TELL ME THAT "IT SEEMS OKAY TO ME, AND THAT THERE'S NOTHING ON THE COMPUTER TO INDICATE A PROBLEM!" AND "YOU PUT BIGGER TIRES ON THE TRUCK! YOU CAN'T DO THAT!" I JUST "CELEBRATED" (?!!!) MY FIRST ANNIVERSARY WITH THE TRUCK AND ITS BEEN A MISERABLE YEAR!*AK
STEEP HILLSIDE INCLINE / DECLINE FAILURE OF SENSOR FOR FUEL GAUGE/ DO NOT KNOW THE AMOUNT OF FUEL IN THE VEHICLE COMPUTER FAILURE, LEAVING TO BEING STRANDED REPAIR OF FAILURE COST OF 600.00 DOLLARS USDA / COMPLAINT IS AS FOLLOWS:OFF ROAD TRAVEL WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE DUE TO IN THE EVENT YOU ARE IN A STEEP INCLINE OR DECLINE IT WOULD COST $600.00 TO REPAIR. REALLY NOT COST EFFECTIVE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED DASHBOARD LIGHTS WARN THE CONSUMER OF IMPENDING DANGER. A LIGHT WOULD INFORM OF REDUCE POWER AND GO OUT. THEN, ANOTHER LIGHT WOULD WARN OF REDUCE BRAKE POWER. VEHICLE WILL NOT STALL, BUT ONLY HAVE LIMITED POWER. DEALER PLACED THE VEHICLE ON A DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE, AND FOUND A COMPUTER GLITCH. THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED THREE TIMES IN TWO MONTHS.*AK
PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL CRACKED. I WAS NOT NEAR THE DEALER AND TOOK OFF THE WHEEL AND HAD IT WELDED AT SHOP THAT SPECIALIZES IN CRACKED WHEELS. *JB
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THIS CAUSED A LOST OF STEERING AND BRAKES. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN INSPECTED THREE TIMES AND COULD NOT BE REPRODUCED. *AK THE FIRST PROBLEM OCCURRED WHEN THE CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING AT 75 MPH DOWN A SLOPE WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER (ENGINE, BRAKE, AND STEERING) THE CONSUMER WOULD HAVE TO TURN THE SWITCH FOUR TIMES IN ORDER FOR THE ENGINE TO START. THE PROBLEM REPEATED ITSELF TWO MORE TIMES WITH SIMILAR INSTANCES. *SC *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS VEHICLE VIBRATED AND THE CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD HUMMING NOISE. DEALERSHIP INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE PROBLEM PERTAINED TO THE MUFFLER. *AK
2003 SILVERADO 2500 TAIL GATE . RETURNED TRUCK TO ROGER DEAN CHEVROLET IN PALM BEACH FLA. THEY REFUSED TO REPAIR BROKEN TAILGATE STRAPS. TRUCK WAS ALSO COVERED BY BUMPER TO BUMPER INSURANCE SOLD TO ME BY ROGER DEAN CHEVROLET AND THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE BROKEN STRAPS.
2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. SPEEDOMETER QUIT WORKING. I HAVE READ SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET. CHEVROLET SHOULD HAVE A RECALL BECAUSE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. *NM
2003 CHEVEY 2500 HD CREW CAB DURAMAX. THE SPEEDOMETER STICKS AND WILL NOT RETURN TO 0. WHEN THE TEMPERATURE IS REALLY COLD, ALL OF THE GAUGES STOP WORKING. NO ACCIDENTS, AND NO CONSEQUENCES EXCEPT FOR THE COST OF REPAIR. I HAVE SPOKEN TO SERVICE SHOPS IN CANADA AND HERE IN MINNEAPOLIS, AND BOTH SAY IT IS A FAIRLY FREQUENT PROBLEM. IN FACT, GMC HAS OPENED A SHOP IN CALIFORNIA WHICH DEALS ONLY WITH THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. WHY IS THIS PROBLEM NOT FIXED MY GMC, IF IT A PROBLEM THEY KNOW EXISTS.
CONSUMER WAS PULLING DOWN THE TAILGATE AND THE CABLES SNAPPED. CONSUMER PLACED THE CABLES INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND DRIVE IT TO THE DEALER. MECHANIC INFORMED CONSUMER THAT NO CABLES WERE AVAILABLE. *AK
2003 CHEVY SILVERADO WHILE DRIVING GOES INTO REDUCED POWER MODE. THE VEHICLE CAN NOT BE DROVE OVER 40 MPH. *NM
WHILE APPLYING THE PARKING BRAKE IT WILL NOT HOLD. CONSUMER DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATE OR RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE DRIVING, UNDER ANY BRAKING CONDITIONS, THERE WAS A DELAY WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PRESSED. THE CONSUMER HAS MADE CONTACT WITH THE DEALER. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *NM
AT 3,002 MILES, I COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP OF THE WEAK, MUSHY BRAKE PEDAL AND WAS TOLD (OFF THE RECORD) THAT THERE WERE A LOT OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING. NOTHING WAS DONE. I REPLACED THE FRONT & REAR PADS AND ROTORS IN 2006 WITH ?ULTRA PREMIUM? ROTORS AND ?CERAMIC SAFETY STOP? PADS FOR ALL THE WHEELS FROM NAPA. I NOW HAVE 22,000+ MILES AND TOOK THE TRUCK TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP IN CASE THERE WAS SOMETHING THAT GM KNOWS ABOUT THE BRAKE SYSTEM. I COMPLAINED ABOUT THE ABS KICKING IN AT LOW SPEED AND WAS TOLD THE FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSORS WERE DIRTY AND NEEDED CLEANED. THAT COST ME $420.93 AND MY BRAKES ARE STILL THE SAME. I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED ?SEVERE DUTY METALLIC? PADS, SO I SPENT ANOTHER $388.36 AND THE PEDAL IS STILL MUSHY AND THE STOPPING POWER IS STILL NOT THERE. THE GVWR FOR MY TON 4WD EXTENDED CAB WITH 8 FOOT BED IS 6,700 LBS. THE DIAMETER OF THE FRONT ROTORS IS 12 INCHES. A COMPARABLE DODGE RAM COULD WEIGH AS MUCH AS 6,500 LBS, BUT THE DIAMETER OF THEIR FRONT ROTORS IS 13.23 INCHES. FORD USES A FRONT ROTOR WITH A DIAMETER OF 12.120 INCHES. WHY ARE THERE SO MANY GENERAL MOTORS VEHICLES WITH BRAKE PROBLEMS AND NOT FORD OR DODGE? I WOULD THINK THAT SHOULD RAISE SOME EYEBROWS. THIS TRUCK AND MANY OTHER GM VEHICLES ARE A DANGER. WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN? *JB
THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT ON MY 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO PICK-UP TRUCH IS MAKING A KLUNKING NOISE. THE DEALER TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD BUT LUBRICATE IT AND THAT THE NOISE WOULD RETURN WITHIN A MONTH. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A RECALL ON THIS PART OF THE VEHICLE BEFORE IT CAUSES ANY MORE TROUBLE. THANK YOU.*AK
SINCE DAY 1 WITH THIS VEHICLE THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN NOTICEABLY WEAK. IN EMERGENCY STOP SITUATIONS OR NEAR EMERGENCY STOP SITUATIONS REQUIRING A QUICK STOP WHEN I AM STANDING WITH FULL PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, THIS VEHICLE FAILS TO RESPOND AS EXPECTED. IT'S AS IF ONLY HALF THE BRAKES ARE WORKING AS THE VEHICLE EASES TO A STOP ONLY SLIGHTLY BETTER THAN NORMAL BRAKING. *JS
MY 2003 EXTENDED CAB TRUCK HAS THE SEAT BELT BUILT INTO THE SEAT. I COMPLAINED THAT IT SQUEAKED SO THEY ORDERED A NEW BELT ASSEMBLY, BUT WHEN THEY WENT TO REPLACE IT THEY FOUND THE SEAT FRAME WAS BROKEN. THEY ORDERED A NEW ON BUT WHEN I TALKED TO THEM THEY SAID IT IS SOMETHING THEY SEE A LOT BECAUSE OF OVER TORQUE AT THE FACTORY. I FEEL THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AS MY WEARING THE SEAT BELT WOULD NOT HAVE HELPED IN AN ACCIDDENT IF THE FRAME WAS ALREADY BROKEN.*AK
TRANSMISSION SHIFTED THROUGH ALL RANGES WHILE IN FIRST GEAR (LOW) WOULD NOT DOWN SHIFT TO PASS. *AK
I HAVE A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1/2 TON PICKUP WITH 29000 MILES ON IT WHEN THE REAR BRAKE CALIPERS FROZE UP AND RUINED MY REAR BRAKE PADS. CHEVY SAYS THAT THIS IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE OF POOR MAINTENANCE ON MY PART. I DID EVERYTHING REQUIRED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL. I HAVE TALKED WITH THREE OF MY FRIENDS WHO HAVE THE SAME PICKUP AND THEIR REAR BRAKES FAILED AT LOWER MILEAGES AND WERE COVERED AND THE DEALER ALSO INSTALLED A SPECIAL BRAKE DIRT COVER TO THE REAR BRAKES TO HELP WITH THE PROBLEM. I CONTEND THAT THIS IS A DESIGN DEFECT IN THE REAR DISC BRAKES AND CAN EXPECT TO REPLACE MY REAR BRAKES IN ANOTHER 18000 T0 24000 MILES. WOULD YOU LOOK INTO THIS MATTER FOR ME.
I HAVE HAD CLUNKING, STIFFNESS, AND METAL TO METAL SOUNDS IN THE STEERING COLUMN AND FELT IN THE STEERING WHEEL IN WHICH THEY REPAIRED THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ON THE STEERING COLUMN. THEY HAVE REPAIRED IT TWICE. IT IS NOW NEEDING ANOTHER REPAIR. THE CLUNKING AND NOISE IS MORE PREVALENT WHEN TURNING TO THE RIGHT. VERY NOISY AND CAN FEEL IT BETTER ON SLOW TURNS TO THE RIGHT ON NORMAL PAVEMENT. *JB
AT LEAST ONE FUEL INJECTOR FAILED ON MY 6.6, DUAMAX. 3700 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY. CAN NOT REPLACE JUST ONE. GM SAYS TO REPLACE ALL. NO WAY TO TEST INJECTORS. INJECTORS ARE NOT STOCKED BECAUSE OF HIGH PRICE. DOWN 13 DAYS BECAUSE PARTS NOT AVAILABLE. *JB
PAINT OVER ENTIRE TRUCK IS VERY THIN AND CHIPS AND SCRATCHES DOWN TO THE METAL CAUSED BY SUCH THINGS AS SNOW BETWEEN TAILGATE AND BED. HAVE 3 OLDER CHEVROLET TRUCKS AND NONE OF THE OTHERS HAVE THIS PROBLEM. *AK
ALL ATTEMPTS TO REMOVE AND RECONDITION/REPLACE THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL TO DRIVABLE AND MECHANICALLY SAFE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE CONDITION WERE UNSUCCESSFUL. (NAR) *PH *CB
WHILE TURNING RIGHT OR LEFT CONSUMER CAN'T SEE THE SIDES OF THE ROAD DUE TO POOR HEADLIGHT VISIBILITY AT NIGHT. DEALER INDICATED IT WOULD COST $100.00 TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE AT CONSUMER'S EXPENSE.*AK
TAILGATE CABLES ON 2003 SILVERADO - PREMATURE RUSTING AND POSSIBLE FAILURE. INSPECTED TAILGATE CABLES AND FOUND THEM TO BE RUSTING ALREADY UNDERNEATH THE PLASTIC COATING. THE TRUCK IS ONLY 18 MOS OLD. THEY HAVEN'T BROKE YET, BUT I FEAR PERSONAL INJURY DUE TO THE FREQUENT USE OF THE TAILGATE - ESPECIALLY STANDING ON IT LOADING & UNLOADING BOXES AND CARGO. RELUCTANTLY, I MIGHT HAVE TO PURCHASE ANOTHER SET OF (DEFECTIVE) CABLES.*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A LOOSE, KNOCKING FEELING AS HE TURNED HIS STEERING WHEEL MULTIPLE TIMES. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER TWICE AND WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS AN ONGOING FAILURE AND ALL THEY COULD DO WAS TO GREASE THE STEERING SHAFT. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT IT WAS JUST A TEMPORARY REPAIR AND WOULD HAVE TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK PERIODICALLY FOR RELUBRICATION. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 81,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.

THIS RESULTED IN A TOTAL LOSS OF CONTROL AND INABILITY TO MOVE THE VEHICLE FROM ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO FORWARD OR BACKWARD. AFTER PUSHING THE 2WD/4WD BUTTONS FRANTICALLY ON THE DASH AND SHIFTING FROM PARK TO REVERSE TO DRIVE, THE VEHICLE FINALLY MOVED IN REVERSE (2WD). I THEN SHIFTED TO DRIVE AND WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A NEARBY DRIVEWAY. AFTER TESTING THE VEHICLE UP AND DOWN THE DRIVEWAY, WE PROCEEDED TO GET OFF THE MAIN ROAD AND WENT DIRECTLY HOME (APPROXIMATELY 0.5 MILES). THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO LARICHE CHEVROLET THE FOLLOWING MORNING. MY 2003, 1500 CHEVY SILVERADO Z71 SPEEDOMETER IS GIVING ME TROUBLE. IT GETS STUCK AT ONE SPEED AS I CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE. AND VISE VERSA, IT GETS STUCK AS I DECELERATE. VEHICLE SAFETY: QUADRASTEER (4 WHEEL STEER) MANEUVERABILITY WHEN SLIDING ON ICE. WAS DRIVING MY CHEVROLET 1500HD CREW CAB 4X4 QUADRASTEER PICKUP 30 MPH (IN 40 MPH ZONE) AND COMING AROUND A RIGHT HAND BEND IN THE ROAD WHEN THE TRUCK HIT ICE ON THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO SLIDE OFF THE ROAD TO THE RIGHT. THE QUADRASTEER WAS ON AND ENGAGED. AT THIS SPEED THE QUADRASTEER HAS THE REAR WHEELS TURN IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF THE FRONT WHEELS. AS THE TRUCK WAS SLIDING TO THE RIGHT, I RESPONDED AS CONVENTION DICTATES, WHICH IS TO TURN INTO THE SLIDE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN I TURNED THE STEERING TO THE RIGHT (INTO THE SLIDE), THE REAR WHEELS TURNED TO THE LEFT, WHICH ALMOST INSTANTLY PUT THE TRUCK IN A FREE SLIDE NOW GOING SLIDE WAYS BECAUSE THE REAR WHEEL STEERING CAUSED THE BACK OF THE TRUCK TO COME AROUND FROM THE LEFT SIDE. THE QUADRASTEER SYSTEM IN A VEHICLE'S FREE SLIDE ACTED COUNTER-INTUITIVELY AND PUT THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTROL IN THE FREE-SLIDE. THE REAR WHEELS COMPLETE FOR CONTROL AGAINST THE FRONT WHEELS CONTROL AND MAKE THE OUTCOME OF THE SLIDE ON ICE EVEN MORE UNPREDICTABLE. ADDITIONALLY, NOWHERE IN THE DRIVING MANUAL, WHICH COMES WITH THE TRUCK, DOES IT STATE ANYTHING ABOUT THE DRIVING CONTROL BEING DIFFERENT FROM CONVENTIONAL HANDLING WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN A FREE SLIDE ON ICE OR SNOW. THERE ARE NO WARNINGS IN THE MANUAL TO A GIVE HEADS UP FOR THIS POTENTIAL PROBLEM, NOR IS THERE ANY SAFETY DEVICE IN THE QUADRASTEER SYSTEM WHICH WOULD HELP ONE OVERCOME THE COMPLICATIONS BROUGHT UPON BY THE QUADRASTEER IN THIS SITUATION. *AK
FUEL PUMP FAILURE. WITH ONLY 10266 MILES ON ODOMETER, THE FUEL PUMP FAILED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL IN HEAVY HIGHWAY TRAFFIC. WE WERE NEARLY HIT BY OTHER VEHICLES NUMEROUS TIMES BEFORE MAKING IT TO A SHOULDER. *JB
