2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 4WD, ABRUPT JERKING FROM TRANSMISSION OR DRIVE TRAIN, TENDS TO OCCUR WHEN ACCELERATING AT LOW SPEEDS, DISTRACTS FROM GOOD CONTROL OF TRUCK. TRUCK HAS 14,000 MILES AND PROBLEM HAS BEEN EVIDENT FOR LAST 10,000 MILES.
CONSUMER STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE, THE VEHICLE HAD A TIRE BLOWOUT. THE CONSUMER MANAGED TO PULL TO THE SIDE, GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND EXAMINED THE TIRES. HE NOTICED THAT A TIRE WAS BLOWN OUT AT THE SIDE. VEHICLE DID NOT HIT OR BUMP ANYTHING BECAUSE THE BLOW OUT WAS AT THE LEFT REAR SIDE OF THE TIRE. CONSUMER STATED THAT HE CHANGED THE TIRE AND TOOK THE DAMAGED TIRE TO THE DEALER AND THEY REFUSED TO HELP HIM BECAUSE THE TIRE WAS NOT A RECALL TIRE. GENERAL, AMERI-TRAC, SIZE 255/70R16. *AK THE SIDEWALL HAD BLOWN OUT AND THERE WAS NO SIGN OF TREAD DAMAGE. (THE TIRE PRESSURE WAS FINE AND THE VEHICLE DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING IN THE BED WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED.) *SCC *JB
ELECTRICAL SEATS MALFUNCTIONED, CAUSING SEAT TO MOVE FORWARD, CRUSHING CORNER INTO THE STEERING WHEEL. *AK

THERE IS A KNOCK OR A HARD PECKING FELT IN THE STEERING WHEEL. ESPECIALLY WHEN ON ROUGH HIGHWAYS AND WHILE TURNING. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED 3 TIMES. THEY REPLACED THE STEERING SHAFT INTERMEDIATE. FIXED THE PROBLEM BUT IT CAME BACK ABOUT AFTER 6 WEEKS. TOOK IT BACK DOWN TO THE DEALER BUT THEY DIDN'T REPLACE ANYTHING THE SECOND TIME? PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. *LA

CLANKING IN TRANSMISSION BETWEEN 1 AND 2. *LA
I OWN A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO K1500 PURCHASES IN JULY 2003. WHEN TOWING A TRAVEL TRAILER (APPROX 4,000 LBS) I HAVE NOTICED WHAT FEELS LIKE A "SPONGY" BRAKE PEDAL. RECENTLY, I DISCOVERED THAT IF STEADY, MODERATELY HEAVY PRESSURE IN MAINTAINED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, IT WILL SLOWLY GO DOWN COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. DEALER SERVICE MANAGER HAS SIMILAR TRUCK WITH IDENTICAL SITUATION. THEY HAVE NO ANSWER. QUESTION WAS DIRECTED BY DEALER TO DISTRICT SERVICE REP WHO STATED SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT THAT THIS IS A DESIGN SITUATION AND THERE IS NO FIX!!!! I SUSPECT GM IS AVOIDING A COSTLY RECALL. HOWEVER, THEY SHOULD KNOW THAT ONE ACCIDENT COULD WELL COST MORE THAN THE RECALL, PARTICULARLY IF THERE IS LOSS OF LIFE. HOW IS ONE EXPECTED TO REMAIN STOPPED ON A GRADE FOR ANY PERIOD OF TIME WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR?
DT*: THE CONTACT STATES THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN 05V379000 REGARDING THE ABS. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL. THE ABS ACTIVATED AT LOW SPEEDS, HOWEVER IT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. THE DEALER REPLACED A WHEEL SENSOR ON 9-2-03, BUT THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE, WHICH ALSO DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT FINALLY DISABLED THE ABS IN 12-04 AS A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. *AK
THE BRAKES ON MY 2003 CHEVEROLET SILVERADO ARE VERY SOFT. THEY REQUIRE GREATER STOPPING DISTANCE THAN NORMAL UNDER ANY DRIVING CONDITIONS. WHEN GOING DOWN A HILL OR OTHER INCLINE, YOU MUST PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR IN ORDER TO STOP. DEALERS HAVE NOT RESOLVED THE PROBLEM.
BOTH WHEEL BEARINGS ON THE FRONT AXLE FAILED ON OUR 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD 4X4 4-DOOR PICKUP. IT HAS 39,000 MILES AND HAS BEEN USED IN LIGHT DUTY SITUATIONS ONLY (PRIMARILY HIGHWAY DRIVING WITH LIGHT TOWING). A LARGE SQUEAK DEVELOPED OVER A THREE WEEK PERIOD WHEN TURNING RIGHT CORNERS. OUR LOCAL MECHANIC FOUND THAT BOTH FRONT WHEELS, ESPECIALLY THE DRIVERS SIDE, WERE CLOSE TO FALLING OFF THE TRUCK. EVEN THOUGH IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, THE LOCAL DEALER REPLACED BOTH FAILED MECHANISIMS WITHOUT QUESTION WITH IN STOCK PARTS. A LITTLE ODD THAT THEY WOULD HAVE MULTIPLE SETS OF FRONT HUB ASSEMBLIES IN STOCK ON LAST YEAR'S MODEL, DON'T YOU THINK?*AK
MY HUSBAND OWNS A 03 SILVERADO C1500. I DRIVE IT TO SAVE ON GAS. I HAVE TRIED COMING TO A STOP BEFORE, AND HAD THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, I ALMOST MISSED MY TURN. I SCARED ME BECAUSE I KNOW YOU DO NOT NEED THAT MUCH PRESSURE ON BRAKES TO STOP. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM I HAVE IS EVERYTIME I MAKE A LEFT TURN, THERE IS A KNOCKING NOISE IN THE FRONT END. SUDDEN COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING DUE TO CORRODED BRAKE LINE LEAK . VEHICLE IS A CHEVY 2003 4X4 3500 DUALLY WITH APPROXIMATELY 82,000 MILES. VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT REPAIR SHOP. ALL BRAKE LINES ARE SEVERELY RUSTED AND WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. *TR
AFTER ONLY 40,000 MILES SPEEDOMETER IS ERRATIC AT BEST, IF IT WORKS AT ALL. SOMETIMES READS 120 MPH WHILE STOPPED OR 0 MPH WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY. I HAVE READ LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ON VARIOUS WEBSITES OF OTHER VICTIMS WITH THIS VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. I WAS QUOTED $450-$600 TO REPAIR SPEEDOMETER. ALSO, THERE IS NO OPTION TO PURCHASE REPLACEMENT PARTS TO FIX MYSELF. GM OBVIOUSLY KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM YET CONTINUES TO IGNORE IT. I CAN ONLY ASSUME GM IS WAITING FOR THE DEATH TOLL TO REACH AN ADEQUATE NUMBER BEFORE THEY WILL RESPOND WITH A RECALL OR SATISFACTORY FIX. HOW MANY DEATHS WILL IT TAKE? WHAT'S THE MAGIC NUMBER? THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW WILL NOT GO UP. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND HE DID SOMETHING TO THE COMPUTER TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE LAST 4 MONTHS THE WINDOW HAD THE SAME PROBLEM.*AK

THE FRONT END WAS REPLACED TWICE FROM A CLANKING NOISE, AND THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED NO LESS THAN TWENTY TIMES. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER DEALER, AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THE TRANSMISSION BOLTS WERE LOOSE. THE CLANKING SOUND WAS GONE.*AK

ENGINE MAKES A TAPPING SOUND WHEN COLD OR WARM. DEALER SAID IT WAS CALLED A PISTON SLAP. DEALER ALSO SAID THAT THERE WAS NO FIX FOR THE SITUATION AT THIS TIME AND THAT IT WOULD NOT HURT THE PERFORMANCE OF THE ENGINE. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO HEAR ENGINE NOISE ON A NEW VEHICLE. *JB
AIR BAGS FAILED TO OPEN ON HEAD END COLLISION. SPEED APPROX. 40 MPH. 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO - NEW CONDITION
POOR STOPPING/BRAKING DISTANCE ON 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO. TRUCK WILL NOT STOP IN A REASONABLE DISTANCE AND HAS FORCED ME TO EITHER STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION OR PROCEED THRU THE INTERSECTION BECAUSE I CANNOT STOP. STOPPING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IS EVEN MORE TERRIFYING. TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO DEALER IN 2005 FOR POOR BRAKES AND BRAKES WERE NO BETTER AFTER VISIT. I HAVE JUST REPLACED THE REAR ROTORS AND PADS ON 8/1/07 WITH 28,000 MILES ON VEHICLE. THE ROTORS/PADS HAD WORE SEVERELY WITH ONLY CONTACT AT THE CENTER PORTION OF THE ROTOR. BRAKING HAS NOT NOTICEABLY IMPROVED. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A FUEL LEAK CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SMOKE ABNORMALLY. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE DEFECT NUMEROUS TIMES, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUOUSLY RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 196,000.

MY 2003 CHEVROLET DURAMAX TRUCK THAT I RECENTLY PURCHASED, SHEARED THE DRIVER SIDE REAR SHOCK MOUNT OFF AFTER HITTING A CUT OFF TREE STUMP IN SOME TALL GRASS. NOT KNOWING THIS OCCURRED, THE FOLLOWING MORNING ON 7/27/03, I WENT TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN ALONG A BUSY HIGHWAY IN NINILCHIK, ALASKA, AND HAD BREAK FAILURE. CHECKING, I FOUND A SHEARED SHOCK MOUNT AND WITH THE BREAK LINE ATTACHED TO THIS BRACKET WITH A BOLT, IT TOOK THE BREAK LINE OUT AS WELL. AFTER HAVING MY VEHICLE TOWED TO HUTCHENSONS CHEVEROLET IN SOLDOTNA, ALASKA THE REPAIRS WERE MADE AND I LEFT. BEFORE MAKING IT BACK TO NINILCHIK, AK. I ALMOST REAR-END A VEHICLE BECAUSE I HAD NO BREAKS. CHECKING OUT THE SHOCK MOUNT AGAIN, I FIND THE WELD HAD NOT HELD AND BROKE AGAIN AND TAKEING OUT THE BREAK LINE AGAIN. HUTCHENSON CHEVROLET REFUSED TO BOLT TO ANY OTHER PLACE OTHER THAN WHERE THE MANUFACTURE HAD BOLTED IT BEFORE. THERE ARE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE OUT THERE OFF ROADING NOT KNOWING THIS HAZORD EXIST AND IT DOES ON ALL OF THE NEWERCHEVROLET TRUCKS.*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES ON THE VEHICLE WERE CORRODED. THE DEALER WAS NOT FAMILIAR WITH ANY BRAKE LINES CORRODING FOR THIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD NEVER BEEN DRIVEN IN SNOW OR ICE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO REPLACE THE BRAKE LINES. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 66000.
BRAKE PEDAL FEELS VERY SPONGY. WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED HARD THE STOPPING DIDTANCE IS VERY POOR. IN FACT ON DRY PAVEMENT, THE VEHICLE ABS SYSTEM WILL NOT ENGAGE. WHEN I ADD MY BOAT TRAILER (WHITHIN THE MANUFACTURES HAULING SPEC) THE VEHICLE IS SCARY TO DRIVE, IT FEELS LIKE YOU CANNOT STOP. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY HAVE NO WAY TO MAKE THE TRUCK STOP BETTER. PLEASE HELP!!

ABS LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING OR WHEN BRAKING. ALSO, AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH EXCESSIVE WEAR OF BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS. THEY HAD TO BE TURNED OR REPLACED. *AK
CONSUMER HAD HEADLIGHT SWITCH PROBLEMS. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK GM SENT THE CONSUMER A LETTER WHICH STATED WHEN THE HEADLAMP/PARK LAMPS WERE ON, THE TRAILER LIGHT WOULD NOT WORK. THE CONSUMER STATED IF THE LIGHTS WERE TURNED ON, THE BRAKES WOULD LOCK. THE TRAILER HAD COME EQUIPPED WITH AUTO HEADLIGHTS. THE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND ACTIVATE THE TRAILER BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS IN AN ACCIDENT AND ROLLED OVER, THE CONSUMER STATED SHE MUST HAVE FALLEN ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL. NEITHER FRONT DRIVER OR PASSENGER AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. DRIVER COULD NOT RECALL WHETHER THERE WAS PRE-IMPACT BRAKING, BUT ASSUMED SO SINCE IT WAS A NATURAL REACTION. BOTH PASSENGERS WERE WEARING SEAT BELTS, AND THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS NOT ILLUMINATED AT ANY TIME PRIOR TO THE COLLISION. DRIVER SUSTAINED SERIOUS INJURIES, SUCH AS BROKEN RIBS/ CONTUSIONS AND BRUISES. THE PASSENGER WAS KILLED.*AK ODI SPOKE TO CONSUMER. THE COMPLAINANT WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND MAY HAVE FELL ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL. HUSBAND WAS MOST LIKELY A SLEEP IN THE PASSENGER'S FRONT SEAT AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH. THE VEHICLE DRIFTED INTO OPPOSITE LANE. THE DRIVER UPON REALIZATION OF WHAT WAS GOING ON OVER CORRECTED AND HIT A CONCRETE DRAIN RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE FLIPPING 2 1/2 TIMES. THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED BLUNT HEAD TRAUMA ACCORDING TO THE DEATH CERTIFICATE. THE COMPLAINANT STATED THAT THE INJURIES TO THE PASSENGER WERE ON THE TOP/SIDE. THE COMPLAINANT DID NOT REMEMBER THE DETAILS. THE PASSENGER WAS BELTED BUT DIED INSTANTLY FROM THE TRAUMA. THE DRIVER DID REMEMBER IF SHE HIT THE STEERING WHEEL. CW *TS *JB

ACTIVATION IS NOT NOTICED BECAUSE THE INDICATOR LIGHTS DO NOT FACE THE DRIVER. THE FIRST INDICATION IS WHEN YOUR BUTT STARTS TO FRY. ATTEMPTS TO DEACTIVATE THE HEATER IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE THE INDICATOR LIGHTS DO NOT FACE THE DRIVER SO YOU HAVE TO DIVERT YOUR ATTENTION FROM THE ROAD TO OPERATE THE HEATER. I HAVE RUN OFF THE ROAD SEVERAL TIMES TRYING TO TURN OFF THE HEATER WHILE DRIVING. ALSO, THE SEAT HEATER GETS TOO HOT AND PRESENTS A RISK OF BURN INJUIRY OR FIRE. (3) TODATE NOTHING.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL, AND DROVE INTO A EMBANKMENT. DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO BOTH LEGS AND LEFT ARM. *AK

TAILGATE ON MY 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO DROPPED OPEN UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE HAULING A GOOSENECK HORSE TRAILER ON A GRAVEL ROAD. I DIDN'T NOTICE THIS WHEN IT HAPPENED. MADE A RIGHT TURN AND THE CORNER OF THE OPEN TAILGATE MADE CONTACT WITH THE HORSE TRAILER AND RIPPED THE TAILGATE OFF THE TRUCK. *NLM
