DRIVING TRUCK OUT OF PARKING AREA AT HOUSE ENTERING STREET AND BOTH BRAKE LINES SUPPLY TO ABS BROKE. THIS LEFT ME WITH NO BRAKES TO FRONT OR BACK. JUST ENOUGH BRAKE FLUID TO SLOW DOWN TO MAKE THE TURN BACK INTO PARKING AREA BEHIND MY HOUSE. HAD TO USE PARKING BRAKE TO FULLY STOP TRUCK. CALLED FOR A FLAT BED TRUCK TO HAUL MY TRUCK TO LOCAL AUTO SHOP TO HAVE BRAKES REPAIRED. THE WHOLE BRAKE SYSTEM LINES HAD TO BE REPLACED ,CORROSION PROBLEM !. $1000 BRAKE LINE REPAIR. COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY DANGEROUS TIME IF I WAS ON THE BUSY STREET ONE MORE BLOCK FARTHER IN MY TRAVEL.SECOND TIME BRAKE LINE BROKE ON THIS TRUCK. ^ MONTHS AGO REPLACED ONE LINE ON BACK BRAKE, SAME PROBLEM.NOW LINES UNDER DRIVERS CAB BOTH BROKE UNDER PEDAL STRESS. THIS SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN ON BOTH LINES. HAD MANY OTHER TRUCKS AND CARS AND NEVER SAW SUCH POOR QUALITY BRAKE LINES. IF THIS HAPPENED ON HIGHWAY I MAY NOT BE ABLE TO TELL ABOUT IT.WIFE WAS IN TRUCK ALSO AND PULLING A 14FT BOAT.ANY DAMAGES OR BODILY INJURY WOULD BE PUT ON GM AND THEIR FAULTY PRODUCT SELECTION OF BRAKE LINES. SHOULD BE A RECALL YEARS AGO. THOUSANDS OF GM TRUCK OWNERS HAVE PROBLEMS. MEMBERS OF MY FAMILY HAVE HAD SAME BRAKE LINE PROBLEMS. ONLY 70,000 MILES ON TRUCK. *TR
THE BRAKE LINES RUSTED THREW WHILE DRIVING MAKING THE TRUCK UNSAFE FOR DRIVING.THE FUEL LINES ARE GOING TO GO NEXT AFTER INSPECTION ALL THE BRAKE AND FUEL LINES ARE BAD. *TR
I WAS RIVING DOWN THE A ROAD IN GEORGIA. TRAFFIC LIGHT AT BOTTOM OF HILL CHANGED (RIGHT AT THAT POINT WHERE YOU HAVE TO MAKE A QUICK DECISION), I HIT BRAKES PRETTY HARD TO STOP, BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, VEHICLE DIDN'T EVEN SLOW ONE BIT. IT WAS TOO FAST TO HIT PARKING BRAKE, WENT RIGHT THROUGH INTERSECTION SWERVING WILDLY TO MISS TWO OTHER VEHICLES. SO GLAD I WASN'T TOWING MY 8000 POUND BOAT OR I WOULD HAVE EITHER KILLED PEOPLE OR DRIVEN OFF A CLIFF. THERE WAS NO WARNING OR ANY LEAK BEFORE THIS INCIDENT. WHEN I GOT IT TOWED HOME, I DISCOVERED THAT A BRAKE LINE THAT RUNS FROM JUNCTION BOX UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT TO THE LEFT FRONT TIRE HAD BURST. IT HAD SOME RUST ON IT, BUT EVERY BRAKE LINE ON EVERY CAR DOES. I HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE BURST. THE PROPORTIONING VALVE DID NOT DIVIDE THE BRAKE PRESSURE TO OTHER WHEELS, THE PEDAL SIMPLY WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO STOPPING ACTION WHATSOEVER. MAYBE IF I WAS GENTLY APPLYING THE BRAKES IT WOULD HAVE WORKED DIFFERENTLY, BUT HITTING THEM HARD, IT DID NOTHING. SUCCESSIVE PUMPS WERE EQUALLY USELESS. I JUST PURCHASED $450 WORTH OF BRAKE LINES AND TUBING AND I WILL FIND SOMEONE TO REPLACE THEM AND BLEED THE BRAKES. I READ ONLINE THAT THERE HAS BEEN A NHTSA INVESTIGATION FOR YEARS ON THIS. I COULD HAVE KILLED 10 PEOPLE. WHY IS THERE NOT AT LEAST A NOTICE TO OWNERS TELLING THEM OF THIS PROBLEM. I WOULDN'T RISK LIVES OVER $1000, I WOULD HAVE HAD IT FIXED. PLEASE TELL ME HOW I CAN CONTACT SOMEONE BEYOND THIS COMPLAINT. OWNERS KNOWING ABOUT THIS WOULD SAVE LIVES.
GIRLFRIEND WAS DRIVING VEHICLE WITH A 700 LB LOAD IN THE BACK ON RT. 44. SHE WAS SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A LEFT TURN WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. SHE PUMPED THE BRAKE SEVERAL TIMES AND WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF RT. 44 ONTO A SIDE STREET. WHILE PROCEEDING DOWN STREET THERE WERE LIMITED BRAKES. WHEN SHE CAME UPON OUR STREET SHE USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN. SHE AGAIN APPLIED THIS METHOD TO TAKE A RIGHT TURN INTO OUR DRIVEWAY. ONCE IN THE DRIVEWAY SHE TOLD ME THERE ARE NO BRAKES IN THE TRUCK. I GOT IN THE TRUCK AND APPLIED THE BRAKES AND HEARD A SPRAYING SOUND COMING FROM THE LEFT FRONT. I GOT OUT AND SAW BRAKE FLUID AROUND THE WHEEL WELL AND DRIPPING ON THE GROUND FROM THE BRAKE LINE. *TR
TRAVELING NORTH ON 95 JUST OUTSIDE OF WILMINGTON DELAWARE IN MIDDLE TRAVEL LANES WHEN STOPPING FOR TRAFFIC AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO FLOOR. HAD TO VEER TO THE LEFT AND TRAVEL ONTO MEDIUM TO AVOID ACCIDENT. I CHECKED UNDER TRUCK AND OBSERVED BRAKE LINE LEAKING FLUID UNDER DRIVERS SIDE. *TR
THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED, THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED TO PUT THE TRUCK IN REVERSE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT BRAKE LINE RUPTURED DUE TO RUST. ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTY AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. I AM VERY LUCKY THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I POINTED THIS PROBLEM OUT TO THE CHEVY DEALER WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RELATIVELY NEW AND STILL UNDER WARRANTY (2 OR 3 YEARS OLD) AND WAS TOLD THIS IS NORMAL AND SHOULD NOT BE A CONCERN. THE BRAKE LINES WERE SHOWING RUST AFTER A YEAR OR SO. *TR
AT FREEWAY SPEEDS I NOTICED THE OIL PRESSURE HAD DROPPED TO ALMOST 2 OUT OF 10 ON THE PRESSURE GAUGE. I STOPPED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND LET THE ENGINE COOL FOR 20 MINUTES. I CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL AND COLOR. IT WAS OK IN BOTH RESPECTS. AFTER ANOTHER 30 MINUTES I RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND CONTINUED HOME. I WATCHED THE PRESSURE GAGE FOR ANOTHER HOUR AND SAW THE PRESSURE READING CONTINUE TO FALL TO A DANGEROUS LEVEL BUT THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE CHEVY DEALER IN EL CENTRO, CA 92243 FOR THEIR ANALYSIS. THEY SAID IT WAS ONLY POOR OIL AND NEEDED CHANGING. I LET THEM SERVICE THE TRUCK AS THEY WISHED. THEY ALSO SCANNED (SWEPT) THE GAUGES AND CHANGED THE OIL AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. THE NEXT DAY IT DID THE SAME THING. I DID NOT RETURN TO THE DEALER AS I WAS NOT PREPARED FOR AN ARGUMENT. *TR
TRUCK WAS PARKED AT HOME ON A HILL. I PUT IT IN REVERSE AND STARTED TO BACKUP WHEN THE BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED CAUSING ME TO GO INTO A TREE. THIS CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE QUARTER PANEL. BRAKE FLUID IS LEAKING FROM THE BRAKE LINE IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT BACK INTO PARK. I HAD TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND NOW CALLING A TOW TRUCK. *TR
I EXPERIENCED LOSS OF BRAKING AND PARKED VEHICLE AND NOTICED FLUID UNDER LEFT REAR AXLE AREA. BRAKE LINE WAS LEAKING. I DO NOT THINK A TEN YEAR OLD TRUCK SHOULD HAVE THIS PROBLEM. *TR
HAD TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE, NO WARNING TILL SLOWING DOWN AT INTERSECTION OF BUSY ROAD. APX. 100 YARDS BEFORE STOP LIGHT I APPLIED BRAKES, PEDAL WAS SOFT,PUMPED BRAKES AND PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR! I QUICKLY PUMPED BRAKES AND CAME TO STOP IN THE INTERSECTION NOT 2 SECONDS AFTER MOTORCYCLE WITH PASSENGER PASSED IN FRONT OF ME! NO BRAKE WARNING LIGHT EVER ALERTED, FOUND STEEL BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED AND RUPTURED. THIS TRUCK HAS ONLY 65000 MILES ON IT, FOUND ANOTHER LINE IS VERY RUSTED IN SAME PLACE AS IT CROSSES OVER FRAME. AFTER RESEARCH ON REPAIRS, FOUND THAT THIS IS COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE TRUCKS FROM 1999 TO 2003. THIS ONE COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL,AS MOTORCYCLE WAS TRAVELING AT LEAST 45 MPH. THESE TRUCKS ARE ALL COMING TO THE AGE OF FAILURE. THANK GOD, I WAS NOT PULLING MY BOAT THAT WEIGHS 6700 LBS AS THIS TRUCK CAN NO LONGER BE TRUSTED. I WILL BE CHECKING INTO REPAIRS,AND IT WILL BE SOLD ! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, THE BRAKE PEDAL SANK INTO THE FLOORBOARD. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE REAR BRAKE LINE CORRODED AND LEAKED BRAKE FLUID. THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE BEFORE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 27,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD LOSE POWER AND STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN DRIVEWAY AND WHEN I ENGAGED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PUT CAR IN REVERSE THERE WAS NO RESISTANCE. PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR AND THE TRUCK DID NOT SLOW DOWN WHEN BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE WAS REPEATEDLY APPLIED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED IT SANK INTO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS MAKING A LOUD NOISE. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE HE NOTICED THAT FOUR OF THE EXHAUST HEADER MANIFOLD BOLT HEADS WERE MISSING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSE THAT THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS AND BOLTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.
MY 2003 CHEVY 2500 HD HAS AN EXHAUST MANIFOLD LEAK AND THIS IS AN ONGOING AND CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES. I CAN SEE EVIDENCE OF HOT EXHAUST GASES LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. *TR
I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE WHEN I FOUND I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO BRAKES. REPAIR MECHANIC SAID BOTH FRONT AND REAR BRAKES ARE RUSTED OUT. I HAD TO BE TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. *JS
THIS IS THE 2ND TIME I HAVE LOST MY BRAKES. THANK GOD BOTH TIMES WERE AT LOW SPEEDS. THIS 2ND TIME OCCURRED IN A DRIVE THRU RESTAURANT. AS I APPLIED MY BRAKES THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME HAD JUST LEFT WITH THERE ORDER OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE REAR ENDED THEM. I THEN DROVE VERY SHORT DISTANCE USING MY EMERGENCY BRAKE. PLEASE RECALL AN FIX THIS PROBLEM. ..ITS THE RIGHT THING FOR GM TO DO. *JS
5 OUT OF 8 EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS ARE BROKEN ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE AND 2 ON DRIVERS SIDE. I HAVE 120K MILES ON VEHICLE.
I WAS DRIVING AT NORMAL SPEEDS WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I LOST POWER TO THE TRANNY, I TOOK THE TRUCK TO A DIAGNOSTIC CENTER AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE MOTOR, MY ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AS WELL BUT I CANT ACCELERATE MORE THAN 35 MILES AN HOUR IT ACCELERATES SLOWLY GAINING SPEED. *TR
I WAS PULLING INTO MY CIRCLE COMING DOWN THE HILL AND MY BRAKES STARTED TO FEEL VERY SOFT. I WAS ABLE TO STOP AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL JUST BELOW THE CURB. I WAS JUST GRATEFUL THAT THERE WERE NO CARS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL THIS TIME. WHEN I GOT OUT I SAW A TRAIL OF FLUID ON THE STREET COMING DOWN THE HILL UNDER MY TRUCK. I GOT DOWN AND LOOKED UNDER AND THERE WAS A HUGE PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID. I TOWED IT TO THE MECHANIC AND HE SAID ALL MY BRAKE LINES LOOKED LIKE THEY WERE FROM A 40 YR. OLD CAR, ALL RUSTED OUT. COST ME A BOAT LOAD TO REPLACE, THAT IS AFTER THEY TRACKED DOWN REPLACEMENT LINES (TOOK THEM OVER A WEEK). THANKS CHEVY, THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A FLAW IN THE LINES ON THIS TRUCK. I APPRECIATE YOU TAKING MY LIFE INTO CONSIDERATION AND RECALLING THESE BRAKE LINES. O WAIT, YOU DIDN'T? THAT'S RIGHT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE ABS, CHECK ENGINE, AND PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE FAILURES RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED, BUT A FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
DRIVING TO WORK THIS MORNING. I APPROACHED A STOP SIGN, PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE PEDAL HIT THE FLOOR, THE DASH WARNINGS CAME ON, AND THE TRUCK WOULDN'T STOP AND WENT RIGHT INTO THE INTERSECTION. FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO ONCOMING VEHICLES. THERE WAS NO WARNING UNTIL TOTAL FAILURE HAPPENED. I CHECKED THE FLUID, IT WAS LOW, BUT IN THE ACCEPTABLE RANGE. THEN I LOOKED UNDERNEATH. THE LEFT REAR UNDERCARRIAGE WAS COVERED AND DRIPPING WITH BRAKE FLUID, UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I FOUND THAT THE BREAKLINES ARE CORRODED THROUGH. SCHEDULED WITH A MECHANIC LATER THIS PM FOR A COMPLETE INSPECTION OF THE SYSTEM. *TR
DRIVING UP TO RED LIGHT. BEGAN TO BRAKE. PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. ENDED UP GOING THROUGH THE RED LIGHT. LUCKILY ONCOMING TRAFFIC SAW ME AND STOPPED. UNDER FURTHER INSPECTION THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED THROUGH AND BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING OUT. SAME THING HAPPENED TO MY FATHERS 2003 SILVERADO 3 WEEKS EARLIER. *TR
MADE A SEMI-HARD STOP, DUE TO A CAR PULLING IN FRONT, BRAKE LINE FAILED. THERE WERE NO BRAKES AT ALL THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. MY 15 YEAR OLD SON WAS DRIVING, THIS COULD HAVE VERY EASILY BEEN A HORRIBLE ACCIDENT. *TR
WHILE VEHICLE WAS PULLING A TRAILER LOADED WITH A RACE CAR, THE TRUCK STARTED GRINDING DOWN WITH A KNOCKING NOISE..UNATTACHED TRAILER FROM TRUCK AND BROUGHT HOME...REAR-END COVER HAD RUSTED AND LEAKED OUT ALL THE FLUID...WHILE CHANGING THAT NOTICED THAT THE BREAK LINE UNDERNEATH THE PLASTIC COVER UNDER PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HAD RUSTED IN TWO( THE BRAKE LINE ON EACH SIDE OF THIS COVER LOOKED GOOD IT WAS ONLY UNDERNEATH THE COVER) BUT UPON FURTHER EXAMINATION ALL BRAKE LINES ARE STARTING TO CORRODE... THERE ARE 3 SILVERADO IN MY FAMILY TWO 2003 AND A 2002. IN 2 DIFFERENT STATES( ONE OF THEM TRAVELS THROUGH THE HIGHEST MOUNTAIN IN KENTUCKY (BLACK MOUNTAIN). WHEN TOLD THE OTHER OWNERS OF THIS PROBLEM THEY INSPECTED THERE VEHICLES AND SURE ENOUGH ALL OF THEM HAVE CORRODED AND BREAKING BRAKE LINES...HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR GOD WARNING US WITH THE GRINDING NOISES...WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED TO NOT ONLY ALL MY FAMILY MEMBERS DRIVING BUT WHOMEVER WAS RIDING WITH THEM!!!!!!!! *TR
LUCKILY WE WERE PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY WHEN THE BRAKES WENT OUT ON THE TRUCK. WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED A WEEK EARLIER WHILE WE (MY FAMILY OF 4) WERE TRAVELING ON RT 70 HAULING A GOLF CART WE AND/OR ANOTHER FAMILY MAY HAVE SUFFERED SEVERELY OR POSSIBLY DIED BECAUSE OF RUSTY, CORRODED BRAKE LINES. WE LIVE IN MARYLAND, HAVE SERVICE AT LOCAL CHEVY DEALER AND MAINTAIN OUR VEHICLES WHICH INCLUDES WASHING/CLEANING THE VEHICLE, SO THERE IS NO REASON THAT AT 107000 MILES THE BRAKE LINES SHOULD HAVE CORRODED. OUR ESTIMATE FOR REPAIR OF BRAKES/BRAKE LINES IS 1681.00. WE WILL GET THE VEHICLE FIXED BUT AFTER READING OTHER REPORTS ABOUT CHEVY TRUCKS AND BRAKES I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO SEND IN MY COMPLAINT. LUCKILY NO LIVES WERE LOST BUT GM SHOULD CONSIDER A RECALL BEFORE THEY GET SLAPPED WITH LAW SUITS. *TR
ON WED, JUNE 25TH APPROXIMATELY 11:30 PM I HAD TO STOP QUICKLY DUE A STOP LIGHT CHANGING ON ME AND I FELT MY BRAKE PEDAL GET "SQUISHY" WHEN TRYING TO STOP. I VERIFIED THIS WHEN I TRIED STOPPING AT THE NEXT LIGHT AND THE PEDAL SUNK EVEN FURTHER AND IT TOOK EVEN LONGER TO STOP. BY THE TIME I GOT HOME MY BRAKES WERE ABOUT USELESS FOR ANY SPEED OVER AN IDLE AS THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOORBOARDS WHEN PRESSED. LUCKILY IT WAS LATE AT NIGHT AND THERE WERE VERY FEW CARS ON THE ROAD, SO I DID NOT NEED TO STOP QUICKLY. I THEN LOOKED UNDER MY TRUCK AND FOUND BOTH OF THE BRAKE LINES HEAVILY CORRODED/RUSTED IN A SPOT JUST BEHIND MY FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL. I HAD MY WIFE PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE I WAS WATCHING THE LINES AND AT LEAST ONE OF THEM HAD BLOWN OPEN AND WAS SQUIRTING FLUID. I SUBSEQUENTLY HAD TO GET MY TRUCK TOWED TO MY MECHANIC AS IT WAS NOT DRIVE-ABLE. AND TO TOP IT ALL OFF, THE REQUIRED PARTS HAD TO BE ORDERED DIRECTLY FROM THE DEALER INCREASING MY REPAIR BILL. AND AFTER TALKING WITH MY MECHANIC, HE STATED THAT WHEN HE CALLED THE DEALER FOR THE PARTS, THEY KNEW EXACTLY WHAT WAS NEEDED AS THEY HAVE HAD TO DO THESE SAME REPAIRS NUMEROUS TIMES. LUCKILY THIS DID NOT HAPPEN WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS USING MY TRUCK TO HAUL HER HORSES AROUND AS I DO NOT THINK SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STOP AT ALL WITH THAT EXTRA WEIGHT BEHIND HER TRAILER BRAKES OR NOT. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. BLEW A HOLE IN BRAKE LINE AT BOAT LANDING. LUCKILY I GOT IT STOPPED BEFORE IT WENT INTO THE LAKE. ALL BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH IF IT HAPPENED AT A DIFFERENT TIME. I THINK A RECALL IS NECESSARY AS THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. PERFORMING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE ON TRUCK. NOTICED STEEL BRAKE LINES ARE EXCESSIVELY RUSTED, GIVEN THE CARE THIS TRUCK HAS RECEIVED. WHILE NOW 11 YEARS OLD, THE REST OF THE TRUCK IS NOT SHOWING ANY SIGNS OF CORROSION OR RUST. BUT THE BRAKE LINES ALONE ARE RUSTED TO THE POINT OF NEAR FAILURE WITH SUBSTANTIAL SCALING, AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED VERY SOON TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT. CLEARLY THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT/INFERIOR MATERIALS, AND IT WILL BE EXTREMELY COSTLY FOR ME, AS DEALERS ARE QUOTING $1000 PLUS PARTS TO REPLACE ALL THE STEEL BRAKE LINES. ON FRIDAY, JUNE 21, 2014 WHILE ON A FRIENDS PROPERTY IN PLACERVILLE, CA, MY SPARE TIRE FELL OFF THE UNDERSIDE OF THE BED OF MY TRUCK. I'D BOUGHT THE TRUCK NEW IN 2003 AND DON'T RECALL EVER HAVING USED THE TIRE SINCE I BOUGHT IT NEW. I WAS ABLE TO FIND A COUPLE OF THE PARTS THAT SECURED THE SPARE UNDER THE BED OF THE TRUCK. IN APRIL OF '14, A FRONT BRAKE LINE FAILED AND THAT LINE WAS REPLACED. ON 6/3/14, I HAD ANOTHER BRAKE LINE FAILURE DIRECTLY UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT. THIS AFFECTED BOTH REAR BREAKS. ON INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE, IT WAS OBSERVED THAT ALL OF THE STEEL TUBING OF THE BREAK LINES WERE BADLY RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. FURTHER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, I ALSO FOUND THAT THE TRANSMISSION LINES WERE ALSO RUSTING BADLY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *JS
2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO FUEL INJECTORS PROBLEM . *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED HIS VEHICLE WAS ALWAYS MIS-DIAGNOSED. THE DEALER NEVER CHECKED TO SEE IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL INJECTORS, IN WHICH WHITE SOME WAS EMITTING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER ONLY REPLACED THE GLOW PLUGS, WHICH WAS NOT THE PROBLEM.
DRIVING ON I271 NORTHBOUND, HEADING TO 77N, LEFT LANE OF HIGHWAY. THE WEATHER WAS CLEAR, THE ROAD WAS DRY. I WAS DOING 70 -72 MPH. SPEED LIMIT ON 271 IS 70. DRIVER IN RIGHT LANE SUDDENLY DECIDED TO SWITCH TO LEFT LANE, CUTTING IMMEDIATELY IN FRONT OF CAR IN FRONT OF ME. DRIVER IN FRONT OF ME SLAMMED ON HER BRAKES VERY HARD. I ALSO HAD TO HIT BRAKES, BUT NOT QUITE AS HARD, AS I HAD SOME SPACE. AS I HIT THE BRAKES, THEY IMMEDIATELY WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE ONLY CHOICE I HAD TO AVOID SLAMMING INTO HER, WAS SWERVE LEFT INTO THE MEDIAN, ALL THE WHILE PUMPING THE BRAKES HOPING FOR SOMETHING. BUT THERE WAS NOTHING. I MANAGED TO KEEP THE TRUCK FROM FISHTAILING IN THE GRASS, STRAIGHTENED OUT, PASSED THE WOMAN WHO I ALMOST REAR ENDED, AND THANKFULLY WAS ABLE TO GET BACK ON THE HIGHWAY, BUT STILL NO BRAKES. I EVENTUALLY GOT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND COASTED TO A STOP.I WAS VERY LUCKY---THERE WAS ROAD CONSTRUCTION COMING UP WITH SIGNS IN THE MEDIAN,AND TRAFFIC BARRELS IN THE ROAD, AND THIS ALL HAPPENED WITHIN A MILE OF THAT AREA. HAD MY TRUCK TOWED TO FIRESTONE, AND THEY TOLD ME BOTH BRAKE LINES GOING TO THE ABS UNIT BLEW OUT. IF GM WANTS TO SAVE MONEY BY USING CHEAP MATERIAL, IT SHOULD BE ON NON SAFETY RELATED PARTS, NOT SOMETHING AS SERIOUS AS BRAKE COMPONENTS. AS THE AVERAGE AGE OF MOST VEHICLES ON THE ROAD TODAY IS 10 YRS., CAR MANUFACTURERS SHOULD BE FORCED TO MANUFACTURE OR USE PARTS, ESP., PARTS AS BRAKES, THAT WILL LAST A LOT LONGER THAN THAT. *JS

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE, NOTICED THERE WAS A LEAK UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AND THAT THE BRAKE LINE HAD BURST. THE VEHICLE WAS SCHEDULED TO BE INSPECTED AND REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 121,938.
I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 55MPH ON A SMOOTH PAVED COUNTY ROAD WITH MY A/C ON. IT WAS ABOUT 78 DEGREES OUTSIDE. I HAD THE A/C RUNNING ABOUT 15 MINUTES BEFORE THE AIR JUST TURNED WARM. I TRIED 3 TIMES TURNING OFF THE A/C AND BACK ON, AND THE AIR FAILED TO COOL. I STOPPED THE TRUCK, TURNED THE A/C ON, GOT OUT AND LOOKED AT THE A/C COMPRESSOR. THE A/C COMPRESSOR WAS NOT ENGAGING. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND THE DIAGNOSIS WAS UNDETERMINED. 2 OTHER MECHANICS FAILED TO FIND THE PROBLEM AS WELL. THE SYSTEM WAS CHARGED CORRECTLY, NOT LEAKING, AND EVEN REPLACED THE HVAC CONTROL MODULE AND THE PROBLEM WAS NOT FIXED. THERE ARE MANY OTHER CASES JUST LIKE MINE AND I WOULD LIKE GM TO LOOK INTO THE PROBLEM. I AM PROUD TO BE A GM CUSTOMER AND HAVE ALWAYS LIKED MY GM PICKUPS. *TR
BRAKE FAILURE WITHOUT WARNING. BRAKE LINES RUSTED THRU, LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID, PUMPING WILL NOT HELP, AND NO WARNING UNTIL PEDAL REACHES THE FLOOR. SERVICE CENTER SAYS ALL BRAKE LINES NEED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
DURING TEST DRIVE FOR UNRELATED REPAIR THE BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE HAD TO BE APPLIED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. INSPECTION RESULTED IN FINDING THE BRAKE LINE HAD "BLOWN" OUT DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST/CORROSION. THE ENTIRE BRAKE LINES HAD SIMILAR CORROSION AND WHEN TOUCHED WOULD PRACTICALLY DISINTEGRATE. RESULT WAS ENTIRE BRAKE LINE SYSTEM HAD TO BE REPLACED/FABRICATED TO AVOID FUTURE BLOW OUT OF THE OTHER LINES. NO WARNING OF "SOFT" BRAKE WAS EXPERIENCED PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. THANKFULLY, INCIDENT OCCURRED ON SMALL SIDE ROAD WITH NO TRAFFIC. *TR
I WAS LOADED UP ON MY 2003 2500HD CHEVROLET SILVERADO FOR THE WEEKEND HOLIDAY CAMP TRIP WITH TRUCK CAMPER, AND BOAT ON TRAILER BEHIND. FOR LAST MINUTE SAFETY MY PARTNER WAS INSIDE THE TRUCK AND I OUTSIDE TO TEST THE BRAKE LIGHTS, SIGNALS USUAL STUFF BEFORE TAKING OFF. FOR NO REASON AT ALL THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR AND BRAKE FLUID ALL OVER THE GROUND ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. IN LOOKING CLOSER THE SECOND LINE FROM THE DRIVER DOOR ON TOP OF THE FRAME HAS A SPLIT IN IT. I HAVE NOW LOOKED AT THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THIS HAPPENING TO OTHER PEOPLE. I HAVE LOOKED AT GM'S RESPONSE FOR THIS OBVIOUS DEFECT IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM AND TEND TO WONDER HOW MANY PERSONS AT GM WOULD PURCHASE A VEHICLE FOR THEMSELVES OR THEIR LOVED ONES KNOWING OF THIS HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. THE COMPLAINTS ARE NOT JUST IN SALT RELATED PLACES. EVEN IF THEY WERE DOES GM NOT BUILD THEIR VEHICLES FOR ALL STATES AND ROAD CONDITIONS??? I CAN SAY I AM ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES THAT THIS JUST HAPPENED IN OUR DRIVEWAY. WHERE WERE GOING ENTAILED MOUNTAIN DRIVING AND I DO NOT BELIEVE THE OUTCOME WOULD HAVE BEEN THE SAME IF IT WERE TO HAPPEN THEN I KEEP THINKING ABOUT THIS DAILY AND THE FEAR THAT GOES WITH THE THOUGHT OF, WHAT IF WE WERE IN THE MOUNTAINS? DOES NOT GO AWAY. I WILL NOT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE AGAIN UNTIL I HAVE REPLACED ALL THE BRAKE LINES WITH STAINLESS STEEL ONES AND IT IS GOING TO BE COSTLY. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO THIS NOR SHOULD HAVE ALL THE OTHER PERSONS WHO HAVE HAD TO. THIS IS AN UNBELIEVABLE SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY BEFORE SOME FATALITY HAPPENS IF NOT ALREADY. THESE VEHICLES NEED TO BE SAFE IN ALL DRIVING CONDITIONS AND AREAS PERIOD. WAS BACKING OUT OF PARKING SPOT TO LEAVE WORK AND STEPPED ON THE BRAKE TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. BEING A CHEVY TRUCK AND KNOWING THAT THEY ARE NOTORIOUS FOR BRAKE LINES RUSTING OUT, I GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK TO LOOK UNDERNEATH AND SAW BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM THE REAR OF THE TRUCK, ALONG THE DRIVER SIDE FRAME RAIL ABOVE THE FUEL TANK. HAD RUSTED OUT BRAKE LINES REPLACED BY LOCAL SERVICE CENTER FOR $605.60. I ONLY DROVE THE TRUCK THIS DAY TO PICK UP ITEMS FROM A HOME IMPROVEMENT STORE. NORMALLY THIS TRUCK IS ONLY USED BY MY WIFE TO PULL A HORSE TRAILER. OTHER THAN THAT IT SITS IN OUR GARAGE OUT OF THE WEATHER. I APPROACHED AN INTERSECTION WHERE MY TRAFFIC LIGHT SIGNAL WAS RED AND I HAD SUDDEN LOSS OF BRAKING IN MY 2003 SILVERADO C1500, WITH NO PRIOR INDICATION OR WARNING LIGHTS. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT VERY LOW AND I COULD NOT STOP MY VEHICLE BEFORE ENTERING THE INTERSECTION. I STEERED TO THE RIGHT OF TWO WAITING CARS IN FRONT OF ME AND CAME TO A STOP IN THE INTERSECTION BEYOND THE LIGHT. FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO VEHICLES COMING AT THAT MOMENT ON THE 4 LANE HIGHWAY CROSSROAD SO A CRASH WAS AVOIDED. ALL OF THE BRAKE AND FUEL LINES WERE INSPECTED AFTER THE INCIDENT AND FOUND TO BE HEAVILY CORRODED (RUSTED), WITH THE REAR BRAKE LINE LEAKING ABOUT 2 INCHES FROM WHERE IT EXITS THE ABS UNIT UNDER THE CAB. THE MASTER CYLINDER FLUID LEVEL WAS NORMAL AND THERE WERE NEVER ANY PREVIOUS LEAKS, WARNING LIGHTS, OR PROBLEMS LIKE THIS AND I AM THE ORIGINAL VEHICLE OWNER. THE VISIBLE LEVEL OF CORROSION SEEMS EXTREME ON THE BRAKE AND FUEL LINES ON THIS VEHICLE. HAD I BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT, I WOULD BE CONCERNED THAT FUEL LINES COULD ALSO LEAK AND INCREASE THE LIKELIHOOD OF A FIRE DUE TO THEIR LIKEWISE POOR CONDITION DUE TO EXTREME RUST. *TR
