THE SPARE TIRE STRUCTURE DISINTEGRATED DUE TO RUST. THE SPARE TIRE WAS HANGING AND WAS EASILY PULLED OUT BY HAND. THE STRUCTURE THAT HOLDS THE SPARE TIRE IN PLACE IS BLOCKED BY THE SPARE TIRE AND DOES NOT GET WASHED, CREATING AN AREA WHERE THE DIRT AND SALT ACCUMULATE. THIS EASILY COULD HAVE FALLEN OFF ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR
BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WHEN TRYING TO BRAKE. GOT THE TRUCK HOME AND TOWED IT TO A AUTO REPAIR BUSINESS. THE BRAKE LINES HAD RUSTED OUT AND WERE LEAKING THE BRAKE FLUID OUT, ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE CALIPERS BECAUSE THE FLUID BLEEDING MECHANISM RUSTED OUT TOO THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND GM SHOULD HAVE ISSUED A RECALL, THIS REPAIR HAS COST ME 1350 $. *TR
WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET MY BRAKES WHEN OUT. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO MY DRIVEWAY TO DISCOVER MY BRAKE LINE RUTSTED AND THERE WAS A 1 CM HOLE IN THE BRAKE LINE. *TR
WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES TO STOP AT AN INTERSECTION, THE VEHICLE LURCHES FOR A FEW FEET THEN JUST LETS GO UNTIL IT COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP SEVERAL FEET INTO THE INTERSECTION. THIS ALSO OCCURS EVERY TIME THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED WHEN TRYING TO STOP. THE BRAKES SEEM TO SLOW YOU DOWN TO 10 MILES PER HOUR THEN THEY LET GO. AT THIS TIME WE ARE FORCED TO USE THIS VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH IT IS UNSAFE. WE WOULD LIKE THIS PROBLEM FIXED ASAP. *TR
I WAS BACKING UP THE TRUCK WHEN A CAR CAME UP BEHIND ME AND HAD TO HIT THE BRAKES HARD. THE PEDDLE WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, NO BRAKES AT ALL. HAD TO STEER THE TRUCK INTO A SNOW BANK TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. THE CAB OF THE TRUCK IMMEDIATELY SMELLED LIKE BRAKE FLUID. TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE SHOP AND DISCOVERED THE BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED AT EVERY POINT WHERE THEY CONNECT TO THE FRAME. REPAIRED THE FIRST LEAK AND ANOTHER LEAK STARTED IN ANOTHER LINE IN THE SAME AREA THE LINES ATTACHED TO THE FRAME BEHIND THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT WHEEL. REPAIRED THE SECOND LEAK AND A 3RD LEAK APPEARED INSIDE THE FRAME RAIL BEHIND THE CAB WHERE THE LINE ATTACHES TO THE FRAME. THE LINES CAN NOT BE SAFELY REPAIRED. ALL NEW LINES MUST BE INSTALLED. THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 10,250 MILES ON IT AND IS ALWAYS WASHED INCLUDING THE UNDER CARRIAGE AFTER DRIVING ON SALTED ROADS. *TR
FOR THE THIRD TIME A BRAKE LINE HAS RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH AND CAUSED COMPLETE LOSS OF CONTROL. IT WAS LOCATED UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT ABOVE THE FRAME. I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO BRAKES AT 70 MPH ON HWY 5. I TOOK IT TO A CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED ABOUT THE FORTH BRAKE LINE THAT IS COMPLEXLY COVERED IN RUST. THIS IS GOING TO KILL SOMEONE WHEN IT RUSTS THROUGH. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND FAILED TO RESPOND. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A TREE AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
NOTICED A PECULIAR EXHAUST NOTE SOMEWHAT LIKE A TICK THAT WAS REMINESCENT OF AN EXHAUST LEAK. TOOK VEHICLE TO LOCAL MUFFLER EXHAUST SHOP AND THEY INFORM ME IT IS A MANIFOLD EXHAUST LEAK DUE TO BROKEN BOLT(S) ON THE DRIVER SIDE. WAS ABLE TO LOOK FOR MYSELF AND I SEE ONE BOLT HEAD MISSING IN THE VERY BACK NEAR THE FIREWALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, ANOTHER VEHICLE CUT THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE OFF CAUSING HIM TO SLAM DOWN ON THE BRAKES. AS A RESULT, THE BRAKE LINE FRACTURED AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LEAK BRAKE FLUID. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON TWO OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
UNIROYAL LAREDO HD/H LT265/75 R15 HAD A TREAD SEPARATION THAT CAUSED CONSIDERABLE SHEET METAL DAMAGE WITHIN AND BEHIND THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL WELL OF MY CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 HD PICKUP. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AT 60 MPH WHILE I WAS TOWING A TRAVEL TRAILER. I NEVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO BRING IT SAFELY TO A CONTROLLED STOP. THE TIRE WAS ONE OF FOUR INSTALLED NEW BY THE AUTO DEALER IN EARLY 2012 WHEN I PURCHASED THE TRUCK USED. THE TIRE HAD APPROXIMATELY 17,000 MILES OF USE WHEN THE SEPARATION OCCURRED. I ALWAYS KEPT THE TIRE INFLATED TO THE TRUCK AND TIRE MANUFACTURERS' RECOMMENDED 80 PSI AND HAD JUST INFLATED THE TIRE TO THAT PRESSURE (IT WAS AT 74 PSI BEFORE I TOPPED IT OFF) THREE DAYS EARLIER, BEFORE STARTING MY TRIP. I NOTICED A RECALL OF TIRES OF SIMILAR VINTAGE IN THE UNIROYAL LAREDO HD/H LT 245/75 R16 SERIES, AND I AM CURIOUS IF MANY TREAD SEPARATIONS HAVE ALSO BEEN REPORTED FOR THE 265/75 R16 SERIES OR IF THIS IS A ONE OFF INCIDENT. *TR
I HAD A BRAKE LINE BRAKE DRIVING MY BABY TO THE DOC, TOWED IF TO THE SHOP & FOUND OUT ALL THE BRAKE LINES & HARDWARE WERE RUSTED BEYOND REPAIR & EVERYTHING NEEDED REPLACED, WE FOUND THAT GM HAD USED BAD PRODUCTS ON THEIR CHEVY TRUCKS FROM 99-07 BUT ONLY RECALLED 99-03, APPARENTLY THERE'S NOT ENOUGH DEATHS IN MODEL YEARS 04-07 TO RECALL, WELL IF WE WERE GOING FASTER IT PROB WOULDN'T HAVE ENDED WELL FOR US, THE COST OF THE REPAIRS WERE AROUND $700. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL SHOOK WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE SENSOR WAS RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
STARTING FROM A WAITING LINE FOR MY ANNUAL VEHICLE INSPECTION I WAS DIRECTED TO STOP, WHILE TRYING TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL IT WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO RESISTANCE AND NOT WARNING LIGHT. I HIT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO HALT THE VEHICLE AND ASK THE MECHANIC ON DUTY TO ASSIST IN DETERMINING THE PROBLEM. WHILE PUMPING THE BRAKE TRYING TO BUILD UP PRESSURE I WAS TOLD TO STOP AS FLUID RUNNING ON THE GROUND IT APPEARED TO BE COMING FROM UNDER THE LEFT FRONT HEADLIGHT AREA. AFTER IT WAS LIFTED ON THE RACK IT WAS DETERMINED THAT MY STEEL BRAKELINE HAD DEVELOPED A HOLE DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION. I WAS LUCKY AS JUST PRIOR I WAS ON A MAJOR FREEWAY AND TRAVELING AT A MUCH HIGHER RATE OF SPEED. THE MECHANIC EXPLAINED THAT WHERE THE LINE RUNS ACROSS FROM LEFT TO RIGHT THAT IT APPEARS THAT WATER IS CONSTANTLY BEING DIVERTED FROM THE RADIATOR DOWN ONTO THE LINE. THIS SOUNDS LIKE A DESIGN FLAW THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DISCOVERED A LONG TIME AGO OR THE BRAKE LINE SHOULD BE STAINLESS STEEL TO PREVENT THE CORROSION. *TR
2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO LT. CONSUMER IS CONCERNED ABOUT ISSUES WITH RUSTING BRAKE LINES ON GM PICKUP TRUCKS.*TA AN INSPECTION REVEALED, THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED ON THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE. JB
STOPPING THE TRUCK IN FRONT OF MY GARAGE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. I INSPECTED BELOW THE TRUCK AND NOTED FLUID LEAKING FORWARD OF THE ABS MODULE. I STILL HAD PARTIAL BRAKES AND WAS ABLE TO TAKE IT THE FEW MILES DOWN THE ROAD TO MY MECHANIC. HE INSPECTED ALL MY BRAKE LINES AND ENDED UP REPLACING THEM ALL AS THEY WERE SHOWING THE SAME PITTING AND CORROSION PROBLEMS AS THE ONE THAT BURST. *TR
DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 60MPH TRAFFIC SLOWED SUDDENLY WHILE PRESSING DOWN ON BRAKES WHEN TO FLOOR I SWERVED TO AVOID SLOWING TRAFFIC AND RAN OFF SHOULDER IN TO GRASS AND SMALL TREES TO COME TO A STOP HAD TRUCK TOWED TO MY HOUSE FOUND LINE OVER GAS TANK SPLIT OPEN THEIR WAS NO PEDAL AT ALL AND NO WARNING LIGHT FOR BRAKES UNTIL ALL THE FLUID DRIPPED OUT IN TO MY DRIVEWAY. *TR

TRANSMISSION SLIPPING, BANGING PERIODICALLY 1,2,3 GEAR AND DOWN SHIFT. TRANSMISSION GAUGE RED-LINED, NOW IS NOT PROPERLY SHOWING TEMP. OIL GAUGE IS MOVING 0 TO 80 ALL THE TIME. SOME LIGHTS HAVE BEEN GOING OUT ON PANEL AND STEERING WHEEL. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AND OFF. TRANSMISSION COMPANY DIAGNOSED AS A POSSIBLE ELECTRICAL ISSUE AND CHEVY STATES THE TRANSMISSION BANG AND SLIP IS COMMON AND NO REPAIRS ARE NEEDED? HELP.
THE DRIVERS HEATED SEAT COMES ON AND CHANGES SETTINGS AT WILL, AND WHEN IT WILL TURN ITSELF ON IT GOES TO EACH LEVEL OF HEATING LEVELS. I.E, ( LOW/MED/ HIGH) ,AND STAY ON EVEN IF I TURN IT OFF. THEN COMES BACK ON WITH -IN A FEW MUNITIES AS IT IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. DOES NOT MATTER IF IT IS RAINY, SNOWY OR FOGGY, OR SUNNY, THE DRIVERS HEATED SEAT WILL COME ON, OFF, AND CHANGE SETTINGS CONSTANTLY, THAT I HAVE TO PULL OVER BECAUSE THE SEAT GETS SO HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
DURING A NORMAL STOP AT A LIGHT, JUST AS THE VEHICLE WAS GETTING CLOSE TO A COMPLETE STOP THERE WAS A NOTICEABLE BUMP FELT IN THE BRAKE PEDAL AND RELEASE OF BRAKE APPLICATION ON ITS OWN WHILE STILL PUSHING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THIS OCCURRED AS VEHICLE WAS SLOWING, JUST BEFORE A COMPLETE STOP WAS ACHIEVED . AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM WHICH SEEMS TO BE WELL KNOWN IN AUTOMOTIVE FORUMS AND BY GM. I REMOVED THE FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSORS, CLEANED THE CORROSION FROM THE MOUNTING PADS AND REASSEMBLED. BEFORE CLEANING THE SENSOR MOUNTING THE PROBLEM WOULD OCCUR 80-90% OF THE TIME BRAKES WERE APPLIED. AFTER CLEANING IT HAS NOT HAPPENED AGAIN. THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS VERY ISSUE ON EARLIER YEAR MODELS, CLEARLY THIS NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED TO MORE MODEL YEARS. IF SOMEONE HAD BEEN IN FRONT OF ME WHEN THIS OCCURRED THERE IS A VERY GOOD POSSIBILITY I WOULD HAVE HIT THE BACK OF THEIR VEHICLE. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AND CONTAINED LEAKS. ALSO, THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL LINES WERE RUSTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AND LEAKING. THE FUEL LINES WERE ALSO RUSTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,900.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE BRAKE SYSTEM BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
MY AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON FOR NO REASON AND IT IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. IS THERE ANOTHER LIST FOR RECALLS. I HAVE NEVER HAD A ACCIDENT OR MY AIR BAG HAS NEVER BEEN DEPLOYED. CAN YOU TELL ME IF THIS WILL BE FIX THOUGH THE RECALL. I'M CONCERNED WITH DRIVING IT WITHOUT NO AIR BAGS. *TR
AT APPROXIMATELY 2:30 AM, NOVEMBER 10TH, MY HUSBAND HAD JUST GOTTEN BACK FROM THE STORE, AND HAD TURNED THE TRUCK OFF. THE KEYS WERE NOT IN THE IGNITION AT THE TIME. HE WAS SITTING IN THE TRUCK FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES, WHEN HE NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE DASHBOARD. HE OPENED THE HOOD, NOTICED FLAMES, AND TRIED TO PUT IT OUT WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. WE CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, BUT BY THE TIME THEY GOT TO THE HOUSE, THE ENTIRE CAB OF THE TRUCK WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE HEAT WAS SO INTENSE IT MELTED THE SIDING OFF MY HOUSE. THE TRUCK WAS USED FOR HIS BUSINESS, AND HE HAD TWO CHAINSAWS IN THE BACK THAT WERE DESTROYED. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING LEFT. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY MAKING THE VEHICLE VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SAFELY STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE GEARS IN THE REAR DRIVE TRAIN FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000.
MY VEHICLE IS 9 YEARS OLD WITH 80,000 WHICH MEANS IT HAS NOT EVEN HAD A TUNE-UP YET. EVERYTHING UNDERNEATH IS RUSTED THROUGH, BRAKE LINES ARE BUSTING AND IT LOOKS LIKE THE FUEL LINES ARE NEXT. I WOULD EXPECT THIS IN NORTH DAKOTA BUT THE TRUCK HAS BEEN IN KENTUCKY IT'S ENTIRE LIFE. STEEL LINES WITH LITTLE PROTECTION I WOULD WILLINGLY PAY A LITTLE MORE FOR STAINLESS STEEL SHAME ON YOU CHEVY. *TR
FIRST OFF THERE'S VERY LITTLE SNOW HERE SO THE BODY AND FRAME ISN'T RUSTING OUT BECAUSE OF THAT BUT ITS DEFINITELY RUSTING VERY BAD THE BRAKE LINES HAVE RUSTED COMPLETELY IN HALF THE TRANSMISSION HAS WENT OUT TWICE THE OIL GAUGE DON'T WORK THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES THE MOTOR KNOCKED BUT THEN SMOOTHED OUT AGAIN I'VE BEEN A CHEVY FAN MY ENTIRE LIFE BUT THE COMPANY ISN'T UP TO STANDARD'S OF THE CONSUMERS IN MY BOOK IF YOUR ASKING 35000 FOR A [XXX] TRUCK IT SHOULD LAST A LONG TIME WITH NO ISSUES. AS I WAS PROCEDIN TOWARDS A YIELD SIGN, MY BRAKES SEEMED TO HAVE GIVEN OUT. THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP BUT SLOWLY AND NEARLY CAUSED ME TO GET SIDESWIPED BY AN ONCOMING VEHICLE. UPON RETURNING HOME I SAW A MASSIVE POL OF BRAKE FLUID UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. HAVING ANOTHER PERSON HIT THE BRAKES I SAW THAT THE FLUID WAS ESCAPING FROM THE METAL BRAKE LINE RUNNING UNDERNEATH THE COOLING FANS. THE LINE WAS SEVERELY CORRODED BY RUST. *TR
BROKEN/LOOSE BOLTS ON EXHAUST MANIFOLD CAUSING TAPPING AND EXHAUST AND EMISSIONS LEAK. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND FAILED TO RESPOND AS THE BRAKE AND ABS WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINES FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000.
BRAKE LINE RUSTED THROUGH. GM KNOWS THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THESE TRUCKS, BUT WON'T RECALL. *TR
BRAKE LINES HAVE RUSTED OUT. ABS WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, THEN SOON AFTER ABS SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON. HAD TO REPLACE ALL OF THE LINES AND 3 CALIPERS WHERE LINES HAD RUSTED TO THE CALIPER. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 41200 MILES ON IT. COST ME $861 TO HAVE THEM REPLACED. SERVICE TECHNICIAN SAID HE HAD NEVER SEEN LINES THAT WERE THAT BAD FOR A VEHICLE WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE. BRAKE LINES BLEW FRONT AND REAR WHEN A MOTORCYCLE IN FRONT OF ME SLAMMED HIS BRAKES IN AN EMERGENCY STOP. LUCKILY HE WAS TOWARDS THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, I SLAMMED MY BRAKES AND MY PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, I QUICKLY SWERVED AND DOWNSHIFTED AND EBRAKED AND MIRACULOUSLY WAS ABLE TO COME TO A SWERVING STOP AVOIDING COLLISION BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE IF I HADN'T BEEN ABLE TO REACT SO QUICKLY. MY TRUCK IS VERY LOW MILEAGE AND METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED, I HAVE OWNED IT SINCE 2009. THERE AREN'T ANY OTHER CARS OUT THERE THAT WOULD HAVE A BRAKE LINE FAILURE WITHIN 8 YEARS AND ONLY 64K MILES, I'M VERY UPSET OVER WHAT HAPPENED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED AND TRAVELED ABNORMALLY TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKE LINES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

DRIVING ON THE ROAD AT APPROX. 35 MPH AND HAD TO MAKE A ABRUPT STOP. AFTER MAKING THE ABRUPT STOP, I PROCEEDED DOWN THE ROAD. THE NEXT TIME I PUSHED THE BRAKES THE PEDAL FELT SOFT. AFTER PULLING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CHECKING THE VEHICLE THERE WAS A LARGE AMOUNT OF BRAKE FLUID COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER FUTHER INSPECTION, I FOUND THAT THE REAR METAL BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED AND BUSTED OPEN. *TR
THERE WERE TWO INCIDENTS WITH THE 2006 SILVERADO AND BOTH RELATED TO THE STEEL BRAKE LINES. A) DURING INNER CITY DRIVING, THE REAR BRAKES FAILED. CAUSE WAS A BROKEN STEEL BRAKE LINE FROM THE ABS MODULE TO THE REAR 'Y' BLOCK. BELIEVE THE LEAK WAS CLOSER TO THE REAR AXLE. NEW STAINLESS STEEL LINE WAS INSTALLED. B) AGAIN DURING INNER CITY DRIVING, THE FRONT BRAKES FAILED. ONE OF THE STEEL LINES FAILED. IT LOOKED LIKE THE ISSUE WAS NEAR THE ABS MODULE. BUT IN REMOVING ALL OF THE REMAINING BRAKE LINES IT WAS HARD TO TELL WHAT WAS THE EXACT FAILURE POINT. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE COATED STEEL LINES ON THE REAR AXLE; ALL OF THE ORIGINAL GENERAL MOTORS LINES WERE IN RUSTED/CORRODED STATE. ALL STEEL BRAKE LINES HAVE BEEN REPLACED WITH STAINLESS STEEL LINES. THE TRUCK BELONGS TO MY FATHER [XXX] AND WAS DRIVING IT BOTH INSTANCES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,000.
BACKING UP SMALL GRADE, APPLIED BRAKES AND THE PEDAL FELT SOFT, PUMPED BRAKE SECOND TIME AND PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE EXTENT OF ITS TRAVEL. DRIFTED TO LEVEL AREA CHECKED BRAKE FLUID WHICH WAS NEAR EMPTY. THE BRAKE LINE UNDER DRIVER SIDE FLOOR AREA ALONG FRAME RAIL HAD BURST. THE LINES ARE RUSTED AND FLAKING. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AS I DID NOT FIND A RECALL ON THIS. REPAIR SHOP INDICATED THAT THIS IS A NORMAL PROBLEM FOR THIS MAKE/ MODEL VEHICLE. *TR
I WAS GETTING READY TO PULL OUT ON THE MAIN HWY. WHEN HITTING MY BRAKES TO STOP BEFORE ENTERING, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR, I,M GLAD NO ONE GOT HURT AND I PARKED THE TRUCK SAFELY. AFTER PARKING IT THERE WAS A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID ON THE ROAD. ALL THE FOUR LINES WERE RUSTED AND ONE OR TWO BROKE. I'VE BOUGHT 4 NEW CHEV. THIS 2006 HAS HAD RUSTY BRAKE LINES SINCE 2008 OR 2009 WHEN I BOUGHT IT. THESE LINES HAVE RUSTED ON A LOT OF THESE 2006 CHEV. TRUCKS I'VE HEARD. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKE LINES, WHICH WERE CORRODED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000. COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. AFTER INSPECTION BY MECHANIC IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT BRAKE LINE HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED APART IN ONE AREA. ALL OTHER BRAKE LINES WERE IN A RUSTY STATE AND MECHANIC FEELS THAT THEY ARE DUE TO LEAK ANY TIME. COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF ALL UNDERBODY BRAKE LINES WILL HAVE TO BE DONE. CHEVROLET ISSUED A SIMILAR RECALL FOR VEHICLES UP TO 2005. PERHAPS IT IS TIME FOR THEM TO EXTEND THIS RECALL. IF I HAD NOT BEEN AN EXPERIENCED DRIVER (THIS IS THE PRIMARY VEHICLE FOR MY 17 YEAR OLD) I WOULD HAVE CRASHED. I WAS ABLE TO GEAR DOWN AND PULL INTO A GRASSY FIELD TO SLOW THE VEHICLE ENOUGH TO ENGAGE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. *TR
APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES AND THEY WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH JUST A LITTLE CATCH. I WAS ONLY DOING ABOUT 25 MPH AND JUST SO HAPPENED I WAS ALMOST AT MY GARAGE THAT WORKS ON IT. (100 YARDS) I WAS ABLE TO TURN IN AND COAST TO A STOP. THE BRAKE LINE ON THE DRIVER SIDE UNDERNEATH THE DRIVER AND BACK OF THE MASTER CYLINDER HAD RUSTED AND RUPTURED. THE MASTER CYLINDER STILL HAD FLUID IN IT WHEN WE CHECKED IT, SO THE RUPTURE HAD JUST OCCURED.I AM HAVING TO REPLACE ALL THE LINES. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN USED BY ME IN WATER SITUATION EXCEPT FOR NORMAL DRIVING IN WET WEATHER. WHEN WE TRIED TO PUMP THE BRAKES UP, THE FLUID JUST POURED OUT ON THE GROUND. THAT WAS WHEN WE DETERMINED THE LINE WAS RUSTED AND HAD BURST WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES LUCKILY I WAS GOING SLOW AND DID NOT HAVE TO STOP COMPLETELY OR I WOULD HAVE HIT ANYTHING IN FRONT OF ME. I AM HAVING THE STEEL LINES REPLACED WITH STAINLESS ON THE RECOMMENDATION OF MY SERVICE CENTER. (APPROX COST $1000.00) THIS INCIDENT WAS MY FIRST AND ONLY INDICATION THERE WAS A BRAKE PROBLEM. I CONSIDER MYSELF VERY LUCKY THAT I WAS NOT IN AN ACCIDENT AND WAS NOT TOWING MY TRAILER AND TRACTOR. USING JUST PLAIN STEEL BRAKE LINES IN JUST INEXCUSABLE AND IRRESPONSIBLE. *TR
THE REAR TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY IS BREAKING OUT OF THESE PICKUP TRUCKS BECAUSE OF A WEAK DESIGN TO SECURE THE LIGHT ASSEMBLY IN PLACE. THE PLASTIC CLIPS ON THE SIDE OF THE LIGHT ASSEMBLY THAT ATTACHES TO THE SMALL METAL CLIP AND SCREW BREAKS OFF ALLOWING THE LIGHT ASSEMBLY TO FALL OUT OF THE TRUCK BED AND HANG BY THE REAR LIGHT WIRING HARNESS. WHILE DRIVING THE TRUCK IT STRIKES A POTHOLE OR ROUGH PLACE IN THE ROAD THE PLASTIC CLIPS BREAK AND THE TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY FALLS OUT OF THE TRUCK. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL TRUCKS WITH THE REAR LIGHT ASSEMBLY TAPED UP TO SECURE THE LIGHTS. THIS IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE THIS LIGHT ASSEMBLY. *TR
IN THE PROCESS OF EXITING FROM OUR HOME, WHILE TOWING A LARGE BOAT, A BRAKE LINE RUPTURED RELEASING THE BRAKE FLUID AND CAUSING A COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM. I INSPECTED THE RUPTURED AREA AND FOUND THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE SEVERELY RUSTED AND READY TO FAIL AT ANY TIME IN THE NEAR FUTURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR FACILITY TO HAVE THE BRAKE LINES REPLACED. ESTIMATED COST IS $950. HAD THIS FAILURE HAPPENED ONE MINUTE LATER THE RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC! *TR
AFTER PICKING UP MY 5YR OLD GRANDSON, WE CAME TO A STOP SIGN AT A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION WHERE THE CROSS TRAFFIC IS GOING ABOUT 50-60MPH. WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOORBOARD. I MANAGED TO DEPRESS THE EMERGENCY BRAKE JUST IN TIME TO KEEP FROM BEING HIT BY A SEMI TRUCK GOING VERY FAST. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS OR INDICATION THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. THE DEALER SAID THE BRAKE LINES HAD RUSTED OUT AND WOULD NEED REPLACEMENT. I CONTACTED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE AND FINALLY GOT TO A COST ASSISTANCE REPRESENTATIVE WHO INFORMED ME THAT GM WOULD NOT HELP DUE TO THE AGE AND MILEAGE OF THE VEHICLE. REALLY, THE TRUCK IS 8 YEARS OLD AND OTHERWISE IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. ALSO I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW MILEAGE AFFECTS A NON-MOVING PART.I BELIEVE THE BRAKE LINES WERE MADE FROM INFERIOR METAL FOR THIS APPLICATION. TO ME, THE BRAKE LINES SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A SAFETY ITEM SIMILAR TO THE AIR BAGS. IF BRAKE LINES ARE NOW EXPECTED TO FAIL IN VEHICLES 8 YEARS OR OLDER I EXPECT THERE WILL BE A LOT OF INJURED OR DEAD PEOPLE DUE TO THIS. AFTER CHECKING THE INTERNET FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, I COUNTED OVER 300 PEOPLE WHO EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE ON THIS VEHICLE. I BELIEVE GM SHOULD ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY AND CORRECT THIS ISSUE AND REIMBURSE THOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY HAD THE LINES REPLACED. *TR
WHILE LOOKING OVER MY TRUCK PRIOR TO INSPECTION I DISCOVERED THREE CROSS MEMBERS TOTALLY RUSTED THRU. THE ARE ALSO THE MAIN SUPPORTS FOR THE GAS TANK AND THE SHOCKS. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND REPLACEMENT PARTS AND THE MORE I LOOK THE MORE I HEAR HOW COMMON THE RUSTED CROSS MEMBERS ARE. I WENT TO THE LOCAL DEALERS PARTS DEPT. AND WHEN I ASKED FOR CROSS MEMBERS HE TOLD ME WHICH ONES I NEEDED AND POINTED THEM OUT ON AN ILLUSTRATED BRAKE DOWN. AFTER THE TRUCK BED WAS REMOVED I NOTICED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLE IS RUBBING AGAINST THE PLASTIC GAS TANK AND IS JUST ABOUT WORE THRU THE TANK TO ABOUT THE THICKNESS OF A PLASTIC SANDWICH BAG. THE CABLE HAS ALSO RUBBED AGAINST IT'S SUPPORT BRACKET ALMOST ALL THE WAY THRU AS WELL AS INTO THE CABLE. *TR
