Power steering went out while driving .
My pickup has 71,000 miles and the frame has cracks in it and very rusted out. There’s got to be something done , I am still paying for it, I have it for roughly 2 1/2 years. Even though it is a 2014 it looks to be good shape, but don’t llook at the frame. My mechanic will not put it on a lift because he is afraid crushing it completely. Pictures attached.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 30-70 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The service power steering immediately message was displayed. There was an abnormal dinging sound, the steering wheel snatched, and the power steering became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The contact called the local dealer and was informed about previous repairs on the steering. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.
The frame has rusted to the point that expensive repairs are needed for a truck that's 9 years old. The problem started around 2020, at 120K miles. I already had the gas tank crossmember replaced, only to now have the rear crossmember rust out including the rear of the tailgate. The rear strut is now hitting the bed compromising the performance of the suspension. When the rear strut mount broke, it caught the rear body harness and cut two cables that caused the traction control to shut off while I was driving. I attached pictures of the damage.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle in front of the contact made a sudden stop, causing the contact to desperately press on the brake pedal and the vehicle came to a complete stop. The front driver’s side seat belt tensioner cable separated causing the contact to launch forward. The dealer was contact and stated that the vehicle was already repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V209000 (Seat Belts). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 210,000.
I started up and was backing out of my driveway. When I tried to slow the brakes felt weird shuddered a lot and then I had difficulty stopping. Service brake assist popped up on my screen. I slowly pulled into the driveway and when I tried to stop the truck shuddered and had a hard time stopping.
Got my truck windshield fixed from.body shop and wipers fixed the replaced fuse box but my air conditioner had been acting up before it went to the body shop when we got the truck back 2nd day having it back my wife was driving it with are kids the steering wheel Locked up service power steering popped up on screen and she couldn't steer the vehicle at all we took back to dealership twice they have cleared the code its still popping up service power steering and steering wheel locking up my truck is 2014 and is doing the same things the vehicles are doing that's in the recall and for some reason my truck doesn't have a recall
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost power steering functionality and the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle stalled while reversing on several occasions. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that he was able to restart the vehicle. An unknown dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the failure could be related to the electric power steering. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V414000 (Steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist, and the vehicle would be repaired at his expense. The failure mileage was unknown.
My power steering intermittently stops working while driving and turning. I did some research online and saw that this year make and model vehicle has an open recall for this exact problem although when I called GM recall they said my vehicle was not on the recall list. I would like to be added to the recall list so I don't get in an accident that could've been avoided.
ONCE DURING A HARD BRAKING MANEUVER, NUMEROUS TIMES WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, NUMEROUS TIMES WHEN IDELING THROUGH A PARKING LOT i HAVE EXPERIENCED THE IGNITION MOMENTARILY CUT OFF PRECEEDED BY THE STEERING WHEEL BECOMING JERKY AND THE STABILITRAK LIGHT COMES ON. TWICE WHILE BACKING INTO A PARKING SPACE EVERYTING SHUTS OFF PRECEEDED BY THE STEERING WHEEL BECOMING JERKY AND THE STABILITRAK LIGHT COMES ON, BUT i HAVE TO RESTART THE ENGINE WHEN THAT HAPPENS. FIRST OCCURANCE WAS JULY 26, 2023 AND MOST RECENTLY AUG. 11, 2023
When something is hit (or pot hole/ rough road etc.)stabiltrak warning and check engine lights flickers, all panel lights go out, and vehicle seems to shut down briefly because you can notice AC go warmer. This is a safety issue.
No power steering
I have been getting the Reduced Engine Power message due to the drive by wire components and the truck will go into Limp mode. This is a VERY DANGEROUS event due to the fact that a driver not knowing when this will happen. I have pulled into the road many times before and have this happen, and when it does go into limp mode, you are dead in the middle of the road trying to avoid being hit by on-coming cars. It is a KNOWN issue with GM for years now and many Technical Bulletins have been sent out about it.
The air conditioner condenser has a small leak causing the refrigerant to leak out. This is a known problem with all gm Silverado 2014-2017 and a recall needs to be issued. They are all leaking in the same place due to a faulty weld from the factory.
Fuse junction box- fuses start getting loose causing signals and other electrical issues.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving out of a parking lot, the vehicle lost power steering functionality with the power steering warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V246000 (Steering). No further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 130,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH and attempting to merge into traffic, the steering wheel became firm. While pulling into a parking lot at a slow speed, the vehicle extremely became difficult to steer. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the mechanic determined there was a failure with the electric power steering (EPS) system; however, the vehicle was not repaired. After investigation, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V414000 (Steering) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 160,000.
AFM Lifters failure: - During the AFM activation and deactivation the lifters on my truck were observed to be collapsed causing the engine to malfunction. Transmission/Torque converter: Clunking noise when shifting between gears Makies noise when the gear is in neutral Rough shifting “Chevy Shake” - My truuk shakes violently while driving over 35 miles per hour, tires, alignment, etc was been tripple checked and replaced, dealer states it is within spec (even the shacking).
Sunroof exploded
Vehicle door would not open with Key Fob. All the lights started flashing with a clicking sound coming from the dashboard area. The Instrument Cluster goes blank. Service Trailer Brake Message keeps going off and on with no trailer connected. Technician Diagnosed Electrical Fault Per TSB 18-NA-161. The negative battery cable showed excessive voltage drop as a fault. The Technician inspected ground #218 which was identified in the TSB as having potential for pinch under the dashboard insulation. The Technician was able to use a scope and found it to be pinched as described in the bulletin. All the issued were resolved. The electrical conditions happened on more than one occasion. This electrical problem could have happened while I was underway and is a safety issue. Chevrolet is aware of the condition and made no effort to correct the problem placing me in a posittion to be injured or killed. Also the financial impact of having to pay more than $1200 for repairs that could have been corrected by General Motors. I am not the only one having this problem.
Lifter failure happened while traveling home from Florida to SC. I was towing a vehicle and barely made it home. Having to drive at low speeds on the interstate put me at risk for accident. Now that I’m home I’m losing money because I have been unable to work due to not being able to drive the truck. The dealership quoted me $4700 to fix when there is a known class action lawsuit for this exact problem. GM should just replace these motors. This is very dangerous. There were no prior warning signs it just started ticking after stopping for fuel.
- 2014 Silverado AFM/DFM/lifter failure. - While driving, truck misfired and lost power without warning or check engine light. - Truck abruptly slowed down, forced to pull over putting myself and others in danger. - Turned off engine and restarted, still no check engine light. - Started driving again but had constant misfires and ticking noises. - Took truck immediately to the shop. - Service center confirmed lifter failure and common issues with AFM/DFM. - The truck is a one owner vehicle which is current on all maintenance/service. - No previous symptoms or warnings of premature lifter failure.
Faulty Active Fuel Management Lifter, Cylinder 6 Misfire causes engine to suddenly lose power. Mechanic has replaced faulty Lifter twice within a couple weeks and same issue keeps occurring.
The transmission and transfer case malfunctioned and then failed. It was out in 4wd low to grab a trailer out of our field and I pulled back onto the driveway, put the truck back into neutral, and lost all gears. The truck wouldn’t shift or move at all. Purchased a transfer case motor and installed, but the truck would barely move so I hauled it to a shop for further inspection. Upon inspection of the vehicle I was told that the transmission needs replacing. When the truck initially stopped shifting out of neutral it rolled down the hill and I had to run after it before it hit my fiancé and dog. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone other than myself and the certified technicians at the shop I towed it to. There were no warning lamps or messages or anything else until after the new transfer case motor was installed at the shop. Then the “service 4wd” warning came on. The truck will now shift itself into neutral when it is driven.
My vehicle has approx 50,000 miles and the right rear shock tower, mounted to frame, rusted and broke away from the frame.
Vehicle will start flashing stability control and starts jerking from passenger side. Along with vehicle randomly shutting off while traveling and turning back on with steering wheel slanted (wheels not aligned) and saying “ power steering reduced, drive with care”.
The vehicle is now at 158,109 Mi as of January 5th 2024 at approximately 148,000 to 152,000 Mi I noticed the transmission and or the rear differential starting to slip have play and making various noises and sounds along with a jerking feeling where you would hit the gas and you could see the tachometer wind up a little bit and then when it seems the gears would catch or however it works it would jerk you forward with a bang feeling like somebody hit you from behind but there's no one back there a few times I would hit the gas to leave from a stop and merge into traffic and the vehicle would not move at all until 2 or 3 seconds had passed for the engine and transmission to finally catch up with each other or something I've noticed many recalls and problems on these Transmissions as well as the same issues on a previous Chevy Silverado 2014 I had prior to this one I'm very concerned that at some point I'm going to try and enter a traffic situation and not be able to have forward motion taking a chance on being part of a collision due to the vehicle not moving forward as required when you hit the gas pedal. I've noticed signs of fluid around my rear differential cover I continuously check the fluid in the transmission it is always fine I would like to have it checked out as the engine is an excellent motor with no obvious problems I take care of it changing the oil and Performing maintenance regularly as expected and required.
Transmission failing at 130k miles. Warning if car driving weird and then after 2 days I’m stopped in traffic go to hit the gas and nothing. Truck wouldn’t move. The 2015 has a transmission recall. A/C failing to work for the last 1.6 years. Inconvenience and apparently a common issue in the 2014 Silverado. Should be a recall since it’s so common.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the power steering failed to operate as needed. The steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. The contact was unaware if any warning lights were illuminated. The contact then stated that the following day, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the EPS module software needed to be updated. The vehicle was not repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while doing an oil change, the contact became aware that there was rust coming from the fuel tank to the back of the fuel tank. The fuel pump had been leaking fuel. The contact replaced the fuel pump and while removing the bed of the truck, there was rust on the bed of the vehicle. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that after taking the vehicle to be serviced, the independent mechanic informed him that contact the sub frame was corroded. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
In a slow speed left hand turn, the vehicle shut down and power steering assist stopped working. It left me in the middle of the road on a busy thoroughfare. It has happened before. Sometimes the vehicle does not shut off, but will temporarly loose power steering, meaning you have apply the brakes and stop wherever you are: parking lot, highway, interstate. Records show that a recall, (N172085440), was issued for this problem and that a repair was completed 6/29/2017, approximately 2 months before I bought the vehicle. It is very scary to get stranded in the middle of a busy intersection! Our safety was certainly put at risk!
The torque converter has failed and less then 200,000 miles. It has caused damage to valves in the transmission. It is only on the 6L80 transmissions from GM. I have had Coleman Taylor which is a transmission shop in Tennessee look at it. They have informed me that it is the most common issue they see with that particular transmission before the failure should occur. I have spoken to multiple people with Chevrolet Silverado trucks with varying years from 2014- 2018 having to have transmissions rebuilt or replaced as soon as 70,000 miles all the way up to 150,000 for the same failure. The safety concern for myself and others on the road is the transmission can suddenly lock up due to the transmission failing. I have spoken with express Chevrolet in Covington TN the service department informed myself that there was no active recall but they feel that there should be. There was no warning that this was going to happen. The truck and transmission are sitting at my home currently and available for inspection at your earliest convenience

The contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V414000 (Steering). The failure mileage was approximately 167,000.
2G Onstar device has been disconnected By Onstar creating electrical code in different system including electronic brakes, HVAC Control unit, radio, amplifier, electronic stabilization and parking assistance. Onstar is part of the vehicle communication system between computer and do to disconnection is sending error code to other control unit affecting them. Spoke with Onstar representative that confirm code error B101D:31 will be present do to disconnection of the service and recommended to visit Chevrolet dealership to remove Onstar equipment. Visit a Chevrolet dealership and the service representative told me that they can’t remove the equipment because all other computers on the vehicle are in communication with Onstar device and if removed the vehicle will stop working. Codes present from BCM are U0422 invalid data received, U1509, U0415, U0073, U0077, U0126, U0151. Service representative at dealer confirmed that Onstar will cause other problem do to error communication. Onstar device can shut down your vehicle. Electronic and computer problem can be unsafety on your vehicle. Onstar as well as Chevrolet/GM know that this is causing electrical problem but recommend to contact other shops to see if they can by pass that error and won’t take responsibility of what their are causing to all vehicles with 2G network
The transmission at less then 150,000 miles grinds and causes a vibration through the steering wheel. It is available for inspection if need be. There was no sign of this failure before it happened. It has made the truck unsafe to operate because of it were to fail it would cause a complete loss of power to the drive shaft, and currently is causing intermittent power loss to the drive shaft. It has been inspected by a local Chevrolet dealership as well as an independent transmission shop that both confirmed the torque converter has begun to fail. The local dealership as well as the transmission shop have both stated they have had a large number of trucks with the same issue come in over the last year. The service manager at the dealership even informed me that there should be a recall put out for the issue. I have even put in a complaint to GM and there was nothing done about the issue. I went back and forth with them for months
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the remote start feature on the key fob was used to start the vehicle, which then automatically activated the window defroster. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was smoke coming from the rear passenger's side window, and then a loud explosion was heard. Additionally, a strong fuel odor was detected while entering the vehicle. The rear passenger's side window shattered; however, no glass fell from the window. There was no impact on the rear passenger's side window that could have caused it to shatter. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the rear passenger's side window needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was out of warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000.
Rear Window Defrost Thermal- When the rear defrost is turned out it has a static/sizzling sound and smoke emitting from behind the cover. I have video proof. Now since this problem has begun, it has led to part of the back glass shattering. GM claims this to only be recall on Canadian trucks and that this exact truck does not fall into the recall category and they are not willing to cover the problem.
Heavy smell of gasoline in the cab and the bed of my truck as well as outside of the truck began on February 23, 2023. The truck is also harder to turn over or start since the smell has begun. Due to the gasoline smell, it is causing a nauseous feeling, severe headaches, coughing and a red flush over my wife’s face when she is in the truck. The transmission line leak has been leaking for quite some time and I have to replace the transmission fluid a least a quart of fluid every two weeks. I was not notified of the Safety Recalls for the Fuel pump pressure regulator and the Transmission oil cooler line leak/ fire danger on my 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. I have taken my truck to be assessed by the Chevrolet Dealer on 03/13/2023, and they determined that my truck does indeed have both of these Safety Recall problems but that they will not repair them. They stated it is a closed recall and my 95k+ miles were too high. The Safety Recall Bulletin #14121 and #13370A both state no mileage limitation and declare my make and model affected by these Safety Failures. I have paid off the loan to my truck early only to be unable to drive it safely or enjoy it. I have never been late on any of my payments and was proud to pay it off early. This model truck has had several Recalls including an incident with the front wheel falling off due to a mechanical failure, that was shocking and frightening when it happened after only owning it for approx. 2 years. With the Fuel leaking and carbon monoxide, and the transmission fluid leaking, the Dealer should take responsibility and repair these problems that they know are a Safety and Fire issue as stated in the Recall Bulletins and make my vehicle operable again. I am only asking that the Dealership provide me with the Repairs they said are needed to the Failures caused by improper installations and or Faulty equipment from the manufacturer as stated in the Safety Bulletin Recalls.
2014 Silverado frame has coating defect. Verified by a former Chevy employee. Frame us completely rusted and splitting and cracked. Just found this out and was told it could suddenly fail. The mechanic said I need to either fix immediately or get another car. This truck was bought and serviced by Best Chevrolet, and they never recalled anything or informed/warned me about it. There is a rich history of these 2014 frame rust defects across the web. I would have never known had the last mechanic not informed me. There are no warning on the vehicle for this. This truck has been well cared for. I have two kids with serious chronic diseases. I can’t afford to fix or replace.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the remote start feature was activated, and smoke was seen coming from the rear passenger’s window. The rear passenger’s side window then shattered. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed but no cause for the failure was found. The contact believed that the failure might be associated with an unknown recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 93,000.
2014 Chevy Silverado. Drove the truck 0.9 miles from my residence to bank to withdraw money from ATM. Noticed a strong fuel odor when I exited the vehicle. Verified fuel leak while the truck was running. Had the vehicle towed to local Chevrolet dealership where they inspected and confirmed Fuel Leak under the manifold. Removed intake and found low pressure line, at the high pressure is blown off. All 4 retaining tabs were broken and secondary latch was laying off to the side. No warning lamps and no other symptoms were noticed prior to failure. No tampering or previous repairs in area. This is a major safety/fire risk, l am lucky no one was hurt.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the ignition lock cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V640000 (Electrical System). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 70,778.
Excessive frame rust, resulting in a weak spot.
While driving I activated my blinker and all the interior lights began blinking and the radio cut out. While I was making the turn the electronic power steering cut out and then came back on. A short while later I was driving at a low speed in a parking lot and the truck shut off without warning. Had I been going at highway speeds this would have been extremely dangerous.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel was firm and choppy. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000.
