stabilitrak light and engine light comes on causing vehicle to lose power, steering wheel locks up, lights flicking on and off, and time engines shut off...This is an hazard while driving vehicle on highway road and regular streets especially.
I bought this truck in Sept 2017 and have had this intermittent problem from the beginning. The first time I noticed the electrical issue was while travelling on the interstate with the cruise control on. When I would use my turn signal to signal a lane change or press the power window switch, the cruise control would go off. This has been reported to the dealer and another repair shop and they were unable to replicate the problem. This electrical issue has evolved over the years to create a significant safety issue. Occasional while driving at slow speed (I have not had this problem occur at highway speed, thankfully) the warning bell and signals would start dinging and flashing error messages. The errors would advise about stabltrak control and power steering assist. The dash lights would flash and the display screen would go blank. Occasionally the truck would die completely. I lost steering control while turning onto my road and almost went into a ditch. Luckily I was going slow (10 - 15 mph) and I was able to stop in time. The truck always restarts once I put it in park and turn the ignition. I took the truck to the dealer and they charged my over $900 to "FOUND LOW VOLTAGE AND HIGH RESISTANCE FROM THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE and REPLACED IT". This did not fix the problem. I have a video of this actually happening and will gladly send it to you. It is a .mp4 file
I almost got in a wreck this morning. I turned down a street lost power, brakes and steering all at once. this has been happening ever since I bought this truck. Thank God the vehicle behind me was traveling at a safe distance. The system says I have no recalls but I continue to read issues involving total loss of power on 2014 Chevy Silverado‘s? What’s it gonna take for Chevy to own this mistake?
The toque converter is bad and is ruining the transmission. GM is aware of this issue and will be repairing fleet vehicles at no charge. I have a problem with this discrepancy In their policy when they are aware of this problem yet only cover the repair if your a fleet owner.
It has an electrical issue that I have read is a consistent problem with the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado that is apparently a grounding issue that causes the battery to surge at intermittently after 2+ hours of driving and dash lighting flickers, cuts off cruise control if in use, media and cabin functions disappear altogether in some instances but most importantly, due to the subsequent surge followed by an immediate draining of the battery, the power steering and steering assist becomes disabled especially at low speeds when making any type of turn creating a hazard to the vehicle, it's occupants, and surroundings due to the suddenness of it happening leaving very little reaction time for the driver to recognize and correct their course speed and obstacles due to the fact that the steering gives substantial resistance when trying to turn the steering wheel. ***(speed description below indicates the issue presents itself and happens randomly to where the speed at the time of each occurrence isnt an attributing factor) but the number of incidents multiply and become more prominent and hazardous the longer the vehicle is driven in a single start/stop drive as issue starts to spread into affecting more and more systems and functions especially after 4 hours and over where it could cause a collision and/or injury.
The stability track light came on for about a second and the vehicle stop working completely.Nothing work and the steering wheel was hard to handle and I hit a light pole and my truck is damaged in the front fender, passenger side.
Brake pedal went hard almost got into accident in traffic. Took truck to my mechanic vacuum pump was bad. Had to replace pump 350 dollar job.
transfer case: vehicle has shifted to neutral while accelerating with 4 wheel drive not engaged. 4 wheel drive will engage and dis engage at random while driving. is not safe! took it mechanic and was told i need to replace entire transfer case but is "ok to drive" and to contact General Motors or a dealership. I'd like this noted in case I am in an accident. -Javier Saenz
The trailer brake warning has began to beep almost nonstop at times whether trailering or not. Even sitting in the driveway.

For months now wire harness part number 842-909-97, rear driver side passenger door wire harness. Wire and connector damage from being poorly manufactured, wire cracking and breaking apart. Waiting for new item availability, can't operate door locks, window. Dashboards light stay on. No dealership or parts supplier in country has any availability or previous part number to replace. Waiting on general motors to bring new wire harness to market. No eta and item is listed as backorder .Been an issue for years now. I can't open My back door in fear of not being able to lock the door and have trouble light stay off. I have a three-door vehicle now instead of four.truck is barley 10 years old. Cost a lot of money for this vehicle.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 55 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed down to the floorboard, but the vehicle failed to stop immediately. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The vehicle slowed down and came to a stop with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The failure occurred on 4 separate occasions. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found. The vehicle was not repaired; however, the contact replaced the brake pads. The contact restarted the vehicle and the vehicle returned to normal functionality. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that on another occasion while driving 55 MPH, the A/C stopped functioning as intended. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with a coolant leak. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 59,000.
My truck has 143282 miles. Approximately 6May2022 I started receiving a “Trailer Brake System” warning message on my dash accompanied by an audible alarm. Two days later after towing a trailer (now with NO or Intermittent brake control) I had numerous warning lights for the transmission and fuel systems that was diagnosed by Wheelers Chevrolet (in Coloma, WI) as a High pressure fuel pump failure. The trailer brake warning still exists and was diagnosed as corroded wires at the trailer brake control module. This should not be occurring as all of these connections are sealed by O-rings. The “Service Trailer Brake System” warning still occurs at start-up as well as while driving even when NO trailer is being towed or connected. This becomes distracting, and is causing other systems on my truck to fail when they should not be. This is beyond a safety concern and should have some serious investigation done.
Sudden loss of power in vehicle, causing loss of power steering for a split second and display screens to turn off and on. Service trailer brake and steering assist lights came on. Has happened multiple times and always on highway. Power steering also malfunctions when parking.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle prior to the vehicle losing power steering assist functionality. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with rack and pinion and electric power steering motor failure. The dealer informed the contact that the rack and pinion and electric power steering motor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 139,000.
My trailer break system light keep coming on
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The contact was able to drive home safely. The power steering warning light illuminated; with a message stating “Power Steering Failure/Drive with Care”. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed with the cruise control activated, the turn signal was activated, causing the cruise control to inadvertently deactivate. Additionally, the warning light failed to illuminate while the high-beam headlights were illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The contact was not able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer however, the mechanic was unable duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V614000 (Electrical System) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 72,300.
While approaching stoplight stepped on brakes and had zero braking power. Coasted to service company they confirmed no braking power. They determined vacuum was bad and replaced
DURING LOW SPEED TURNING THE VEHICLE LOSES POWER STEERING, THE AC POWERS OFF AND ON, THE STABLITRAC WARNING BLINKS ON AND OFF AND THE RADIO CYCLES ON AND OFF. this is a known recall for 2014 chevy silverados however gm says it was repaired before i bout my truck 3 years ago and wont cover it to be repaired again This has happened multiple times in the last 2 weeks and is increasing in frequency
Whenever I connect my trailer to the truck, I get a "Check Trailer Wiring" message on my dash and a dinging sound. The trailer is new, but I returned it to the dealer, and they tore it down to the frame to check the wiring. Several diagnostics were run on the truck and the truck connector was changed, and yet the dinging persisted. Finally, Hendricks Chevrolet in Durham, NC was able to fix the problem, but only temporarily. After 4,000 miles the dinging resumed. I cannot pull my trailer with my truck safely; I would have to drive without brakes and lights. And now I am stranded in California at my sister's home, two days' drive from my new home in CO, and no way to pull the trailer. This has been an ongoing issue that Chevy has ignored. Chevy wants another diagnostic run, even though the diagnostics come back clear. I asked the Chevy team member on the call who can fix a Chevy if Chevy cannot. He had no answer.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the RPM redlined however, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic, and later drove the vehicle to a dealer where it was diagnosed with needing the torque converter replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 96,900.
low speed brake failure and brakes became hard to press.
Frequently while driving, the stabilitrac not operating and loss off power steering. Usually happens at speeds of 20mph and below
Hello, I noticed sidewall bulging on all 4 of my cooper discoverer A/T 275/55R20. After googling I saw that a recall exists (NHTSA campaign nr:21T002000) Then I called and sent all my DOT to cooper and they said my tires are the Wall-mart special version which is not included in this recall. So I tried Wall-mart and they are not helping either (no recall exists is always their answer...) My 4 tires are the exact size and produced in the week listet in the recall 21T002000 and show the exact same issues (big bulges in sidewall which are filled with air) just the fact that it is a Discoverer A/T tire not a Discoverer A/T3 4S makes cooper tell me my tires are not in the recall. I believe there are more faulty tires out there and you should look into this since 4 out of 4 tires I have are bad. I am happy to bring my car to you guys to analyse
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at slow speeds and turning the steering wheel, the vehicle lost motive power. The 2014 and up Chevrolet Silverado 1500 models are notorious for electrical issues and bugs, some may have been recalled but other were not included in that recall while still having the same issues, these vehicles have major electrical system issues, from bad battery cables, down to every Control Module associated with the truck, over time salt, sand, mud, moisture disrupts certain key areas of the electrical wiring harness underneath the vehicle, General Motors knows about this but fails to recall these vehicles, it creates a very serious matter when you have no traction control, or any ABS function, along with loss of power steering assist. These control systems can be life and death when they are not working!. GM needs to address these issues and recall ALL 2014+ Silverado’s and alike for these electrical issues relating to “loss of communication with the ECM, BCM, TCM, EBCM, TCCM, PSCM, etc. these are costly break downs and these modules are very expensive to just throw in and hope it fixes the issue, most dealers don’t want to trace wiring issues and will just tell the customer cannot replicate which leaves us vulnerable. Some customers state their vehicles will randomly shut off while driving, others report their truck going into “Limp home mode”. Nobody can seem to centralize a specific area where the problems are occurring but believe it has something to do with the material and the way the harness was made.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH and making a turn, the vehicle suddenly lost power steering assist. The contact stated that after straightening the steering wheel to the center, the vehicle regained power steering functionality. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.
At very slow speed (under 1 mph) the steering is unmanageable to turn, even if truck stopped and its required to make a relatively sharp turn. Seems the power steering stops working & airbag warning light turns on as well as parking assist stops working. Very dangerous!! Also when the temperature is under 30°F the dash/ display screen go black when I attempt to use the side window switches
Service trailer brake system repeatedly shows up blocking information screen and distracting me from driving with its chime and message
At random completely lost Electric power steering as many similar trucks have been recalled but not mine
There is a complete loss of power so there is no way to start the truck. Here in North Dakota the wind chills go to fifty degrees below zero. It is life threatening when the truck won't start. Up to this point it has happened only when the vehicle is parked. The GM dealer has seen the truck, but it is a random problem and can't be "replicated" in the shop. The shop manager has seen the security symbol on the dash board and cleared it with the computer. When it happened this week in minus wind chills I called the dealer, and he suggested that I put the key in and let it sit for ten minutes! Nothing happened. When my husband caught a ride to help me, he wiggled the battery connection and the whole system turned on. The security anti theft device light had gone on while driving, but the book said to take it to a dealer!
My power steering will not work, I cannot turn the wheel whatsoever. The first time it happened, I had to pay through insurance to have it fixed. 2 years later, it’s happening again. In both incidences, I parked my truck overnight and when I went to drive it the next day, a message came on saying power steering assist reduced. I know there is a recall for this problem. Yet the dealership tells me the steering gear needs replaced. The problem now is that there isn’t a part available.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at low speeds, the brakes failed to engage to stop the vehicle immediately. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the dealer could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that he had to pay out of pocket for the repair. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
Seat belt anchor broke replaced under warranty but replaced with same defective parts and broke again. Dealer refused to repair without payment of $160.00. Fan belt for air pump brakes you have no brakes to stop truck. A/C condenser defective from factory leaks at seams burns out compressor. GM refuses to recall and dealer charges $1800.00 to repair. I've repaired all these problems on my own except for seat belt anchor
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, the rear windshield shattered without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not inspected by the dealer. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.
The trailer Brake system is malfunctioning.
When I’m driving at slow speeds, the brakes feel real squishy and hard to stop.
While driving down the road a service alert comes up on the dash advising "Service Trailer Brake system". This alert is extremely distracting and will not go away while hitting the "dismiss" button. To my knowledge the trailer brake system on this vehicle has never been used. GM shoukd take full responsibility of this problem and issue a recall. Failure to do so could result in future vehicle accidents from people being distracted from this obnoxious alarm from a faulty part. I would supply a picture or video of the alarm but using my camera while driving would only add to the already present danders associated with this issue. Thanks for your time.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while depressing the brake pedal while driving at slow speeds, the vacuum pump failed to operate as designed causing the brake pedal to either harden or depress to the floorboard. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that excessive effort was needed to stop the vehicle. The contact had to depress the brake pedal with both feet to stop the vehicle. The contact discovered that his vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact took the vehicle to be serviced under the recall; however, upon return of the vehicle, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 143,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at slow speeds or making a turn, the electronic stabili-trak warning light was flashing and the steering wheel seized. The contact restarted the vehicle and steering functionality returned. Additionally, while his wife was driving and approaching a stop, the vehicle inadvertently shifted into neutral(N). While depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to move. The contact stated that the brake pedal was released, and the vehicle started rolling away. The contact restarted the vehicle and the vehicle worked as designed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to duplicate the failure. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V246000 (Steering) and 14V374000 (Power Train). The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
I started my truck remotely, when I got into my truck the back windshield broke. GM has a customer satisfaction program (N192265660). My vehicle is not covered, GM advised me to file a complaint to get my vehicle covered under the same program.
My truck loss of electric power steering it shuts off especially during low speed turning maneuvers. Lost and then returns then might lose temporary control of the steering wheel, increasing the risk of a crash. I have made an appointment at my dealership .
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The vehicle had previously been serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the failure recurred with the brakes not engaging immediately while the brake pedal was depressed. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
While driving today, the power steering stopped working while trying to turn at the traffic light. I had to go straight and park the truck on the side of the street. The warning light came on while this happened, stating “steering assist is reduced, drive with care”. Taking to dealership tomorrow morning.
the brakes have a hard pedal with no brakes at low speed . In reverse have to apply lots of pressure to brake pedal, and this does not always work. I read there is a recall. I want to get repaired before an accident occurs. This is on going, not just the date below.
On DECEMBER 14th 2021 while traveling on interstate 90 from Hardin Montana to Billings Montana I hit a large granite boulder that had fallen off of a semi, I had my cruise control set where I always set it at 77 mph. The boulder was around 500 lbs and was roughly 30 inches tall by 24 wide. It launched my truck in the air and I flew about 17 to 20 feet before touching down. I impacted the boulder just to the right of center of the bumper and it tore everything from the bumper to the firewall. Extremely violent impact and I hit my head on the sun visor and chin on the steering wheel. Not one of the airbags deployed. The first person on scene was Montana Highway Dept employee who was one minute behind me. He and myself as well as the responding highway patrol were shocked that the airbags did not deploy. Since that accident I have had multiple things wrong with my neck my knees as well as my hips and back. Im pretty sure Im messed up for life.
