The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact remote started the vehicle and left the vehicle unattended for several minutes. When returning to the vehicle, the vehicle was on fire, and the window was shattered. The fire was coming from the rear window behind the driver's side, which melted all the plastic around the shattered glass. The contact notified the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 142,000.
the brake pedal goes hard and you have to slam on the brakes, to get the truck to stop. The brake assist is not working. on 10/30/2020 I took the truck in for the recall and they reprogrammed the ECM the problem stopped. Well there was second recall, but the brake system was functioning. The brake system is now not functioning, and they are telling me the recall is expired, even though I took my truck in for the first recall to have it fixed.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle started running sluggishly and was jerking abnormally. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 40-45 MPH, there was an abnormally loud ticking sound coming from the passenger's side of the engine compartment. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer and to another dealer, where it was diagnosed and it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact was informed that the repair was not covered because the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired by the dealers due to the cost. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the engine was taken apart, and it was diagnosed that the camshaft was worn, and there were metal shards in the engine oil. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 101,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while approaching a stop sign, the brake pedal was depressed but traveled down to the floorboard, and the vehicle failed to respond as intended. The vehicle eventually came to a stop. No warning lights were illuminated. The failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the brake vacuum pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, who confirmed that the vacuum pump had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. Upon investigation, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). However, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 187,000.
In Michigan- stopped for lunch - used remote start as always when it’s cold. Came out and got back on the road and about ten minutes later a loud bang and the back window shattered. A quick google said it’s a known problem on this model with the power sliding window due to the rear defrost and there’s a recall for Canada and 10 us states but Illinois isn’t covered. Hard to understand when it’s the same part number. GM customer service rep also stated they won’t cover it when we called the corporate office. If we’d been alerted we would’ve disabled the rear defrost long ago. Frightening to know it’s a fire hazard and what if we’d had children in the back.
Driving the truck, a nut fell against my foot. I pulled over and looked underneath to where this Nut could have come from. I realized that the brake pedal was very loose. I did a Google search to see what break pedal Nut could have loosened and Fallen off. I identified that there was a recall for the brake pedal pivot nut on these trucks. From that, I looked up to that section and found that the nut did indeed come from that part. I called the local Chevrolet dealership and they informed me that my VIN number was not part of that recall list. It is obvious that General Motors left the numbers off of that recall for vehicles that are still being affected by that problem. I called General Motors customer service and spoke to Brandy at customer service and she was not willing to help and only told me to contact this government agency. In order to prevent fatalities of innocent lives, I am reporting this.
Vehicle has electrical issues with headlamps flickering and power steering loss (which is electronic) at lower speeds. Power and radio intermittently cut out momentarily and on occasion a "stabilitrac loss" warning flashes. Looking online, many consumers experience this issue which appears to be due to faulty ground or battery connections and many have reported complete loss of power at highway speeds resulting in accidents. This appears on several Chevrolet vehicles, but especially on the Silverado and GMC Sierra 2014-2017 models. I am very surprised a recall has not been issued yet for this very dangerous and potentially fatal issue.
The failure occurred in the rear sliding window defroster electrical system, specifically at the left-side electrical connection of the power sliding rear window. The component overheated and ignited, causing fire damage and shattering of the rear left portion of the window. The vehicle and damaged components are currently available for inspection upon request. The defect resulted in an active electrical fire during normal vehicle operation (remote start while warming up). This posed a serious risk of vehicle fire, injury to occupants, and potential spread to nearby vehicles or structures. As a firefighter, I recognized the danger and immediately shut off the vehicle and ventilated it; without trained action, the incident could have resulted in a total vehicle loss or more severe consequences. Yes. Copeland Chevrolet in Hudson, Massachusetts inspected the vehicle and confirmed that the damage was consistent with the known defect in the rear sliding window defroster system, consistent with GM Customer Satisfaction Program XXX. The vehicle has been inspected by an authorized GM dealership (Copeland Chevrolet). No police or insurance inspection has occurred to date. No warning lamps, messages, or prior symptoms were present. The failure occurred suddenly and without warning during normal operation while the vehicle was warming up using the factory-installed remote start. This is a known defect acknowledged by GM under Customer Satisfaction Program XXX (which expired in 2022), which described overheating and fire risk in the rear sliding window defroster electrical connection. That program was limited by state and excluded Massachusetts, so I was never notified despite identical risk. This same defect is currently the subject of an active safety recall in Canada, where it is treated as a fire hazard requiring corrective action. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
When my windows are up the heater whines, now yesterday the rear window blew out, I’m being told it is a known issue with the 2015 Chevy Silverado, I saw it was recalled and fixed in 2020, obviously the fix did not work and now my truck is a fire danger.
Trucks driver side rear window which is a three-piece window with a sliding window in the middle has shattered apparently due to a defect or fault in the rear window fogger. I had my son in the back at one point and put the defogger on, and it started smoking and nearly caught on fire. No warning on either incidences and they did not occur at one time but about two days apart.
Brake pedal bolt came loose and fell off. Brake pedal was difficult to use. There was a recall for this issue on 2015-2016 2500 and 3500 series trucks but not 1500 series. I have a video of the brake pedal condition but it will not let me upload it.
Sold vehicle with full knowledge that its was not safe to be driven the dealership/owner didn’t follow state safety regulations I could have been hurts well as innocent people on the roads and highways if the motor would have messed up or something underneath the vehicle would have malfunction and broken
The contact's father owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while the owner was driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine made a tapping sound, and the vehicle stalled. The contact was unsure whether a warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the lifters and the camshaft had failed. The cost of the repair had not yet been determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 152,000. The VIN was not available.
I was driving down the road like normal then for a second smelled a burning smell then my back window (power sliding) drivers side just exploded and completely shattered.
After years of driving like a grandma, my transmission unexpectedly failed while travelling down the freeway at 70mph. There were no warning signs, no vibrations, and I changed my transmission fluid at the dealer-recommended intervals. Huge bummer, really. I use my truck for work, and because of the time of year, it is unlikely that I'll be able to get it repaired for a few weeks. Certainly not going to help my bank account either, since a new transmission from Chevrolet is $4,800 before labor and other parts.
I am the original owner of a 2015 chevrolet silverado 1500. The vehicle's brake vacuum pump has failed, resulting in a sudden, significant loss of power braking assist. This requires excessive pedal force to stop the vehicle, creating an immediate safety hazard and increasing the risk of a crash. General Motors previously issued special coverage adjustment N192210240 ( or N182202780 ) to address this specific component failure, extending warranty coverage to 10 years or 150,000 miles. I never received notification of this coverage or the potential safety defect. The dealership has confirmed the vacuum pump failure but denied coverage because the 10- year window has recently expired. I contacted GM Corporate on 12/16/2025 and 12/17/ 2025 they declined GoodWill Assistance. I believe it is unreasonable to deny coverage for a know safety defect on a vehicle owned by the original purchaser who was never properly notified of the extension on N182202780.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving and turning, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The contact stated that the vehicle regained power steering functionality upon depressing the accelerator pedal on several occasions. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring intermittently. The dealer was contacted and advised the contact that there would be a charge for a diagnostic test. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the instrument cluster started flickering, and the vehicle stalled. During several failures, the check engine warning light illuminated, and during other failures, there was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated on several occasions that the vehicle restarted independently. The failure was an intermittent failure, but was a recurring failure. The vehicle was not taken to a local dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that after using the Remote-Start to start the vehicle, there was an abnormal burning odor entering the cabin of the vehicle while the defroster was activated. No warning light was illuminated. In addition, after the contact had driven to the destination, the contact heard an abnormal bang and became aware that the rear passenger’s side glass had fractured. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000.
AFM/DFM on my 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT had to lifters collapse without warning and no engine light was hole I had my 7 year old daughter and 10 year old son in the vehicle while I was driving. My kids got scared and I had to react quick and go into a drive way. While I was driving my vehicle gave out without warning and could’ve caused a serious accident to my kids and myself including other vehicles.
My rear window defroster circuit started overheating causing my window to shatter.
I got in my truck and put my seatbelt on, next thing I know it’s just hanging there. The cable in the seatbelt broke, down by the door frame. Very dangerous! Can’t imagine if I had been in a car accident! Now my seatbelt is a safety hazard! I took it to the local dealer and they said they can fix it, they ordered the parts and said it’ll be over 300. They stated it had already been fixed during a recall & it’s my responsibility now. I would think Chevy would get this problem with the seatbelts fixed asap! I’m surprised someone hasn’t been killed because of them.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while her son was driving approximately 50 MPH, the front driver's side air bag and front passenger side air bag unexpectedly deployed without an impact to the vehicle. No warning light was illuminated. There were no injuries sustained. There were no passengers seated inside the vehicle. The contact's son drove the vehicle back to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or a dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
I was driving on a busy street with a speed limit of around 45 mph and my torque converter failed causing my transmission to fail and my truck to become disabled in the middle of a busy road. It blocked traffic causing a potential danger to surrounding motorists and required assistance to be moved to a nearby parkin lot and later to be towed to the Chevrolet Dealership. The dealership confirmed that the transmission had failed. I subsequently took it to a specialist transmission shop that dismantled it an indicated that the torque converter had failed (a known problem with this year and model transmission) and that the failure had led to catastrophic damage to the transmission. There were no warning signs other than a couple of hard shifts just prior to failure. I was lucky that this occurred on a dry level street and not on a narrow mountain pass while pulling a trailer where the results could have been much different.
Steering goes on and off.
Vacuum pump for brakes . My brake pedal get hard
2015 Chevrolet Silverado complete engine failure. At 143,000 miles the engine failed because of the displacement on demand fuel injection system/lifters. Lifter failed without warning, destroyed the camshaft, cam bearing and crank and crank bearings. Chevrolet/GM were no help at all and took on responsibility for building defective engines they knew would fail after the warranty expired. I ended up spending nearly $17,000 to have a remanufactured engine installed.
I have had a problem with the theft deterrent system which, shuts the truck down and issues a message saying "turn the driver side window down and then up". After 5 minutes the truck starts back up by itself? This has occurred sitting in Popeyes drive thru line in August 2024 in Benton Harbor, Mi. This has occurred 3 times in the past week, 09/25/25 driving on Garrett road it shut down during the entry into a "s curve" 09/26/25 driving into my drive way 09/28/25 driving into my drive way Took the truck into Wimberley Chevy dealer and they searched for error codes and checked some of the ground wires not connected properly and found the negative cable on battery was ok. I don't know if any other wire connectors were checked, however I have had this before and the dealer said they would have to keep the truck as it may take quite some time in confirming all connections were good. the service manage of LeValley Cheverolet stated that they would require a $1,000 deposit for them to start looking into the problem and again require another $1,000 deposit to continue and then another etc. I will not drive my truck on any major highway or in any very busy large city for fear of having a return of another shutdown and no place to pull into as I was only coasting when I entered the "S curves" and had space.
The 5.3 engine in the 2015 Chevy Silverado had lifter failure. The engine needed to be repaired and taken out of the truck. The engine needed a full repair of the lifters, camshaft, gaskets, etc. Which ended in a costly repair.
Power steering went out then came back on
Vacuum pump failed causing an anti-lock brake failure and destroyed all my brake pads and rotors. General motors and the dealership are only covering the vacuum pump, but require me the customer to pay for the brake pads, rotors, and installation fees. GM had the dealership perform 3 days of testing to verify that it was the vacuum pump. I was hauling a camper with my truck when it failed with my 2 young children inside and the truck ground to a halt while shaking violently scaring my children. I had to have the vehicle towed due to how dangerous the issue was.
Vehicle stabilitrak light comes on and engine dies. Headlights flicker and completely cut off at night. When starting vehicle the dash says to roll the driver window down and then up to continue. Tonight August 12th 2025, the air quit completely and headlights cut off. Engine dies while in gear. When I put truck in reverse engine will die. Sometimes turning the wheel will cause the engine to cut off or lights to go out. I have taken to the dealership multiple times for this issue and it has yet to be resolved. This has been going on for around 7-8 months. I bought the truck in December and it’s been in the shop 4 times now.
Unknown : vehicle vacuum pump for Braking assistance causing the vehicle to not be able to stop possibly crashing.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that after arriving to the intended destination, there was an abnormal ticking sound coming from the engine compartment. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the lifters, resulting in damages to the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 124,000.
Excessive fuel smell at vehicle. Fire hazard in enclosed garage area. Found top of fuel sending unit rusted out and leaking fuel.
Windows motor shorts out. If driving vehicle cuts off in order for window motor to reboot. Once you cut back on, error code tells driver to role window down and then back up.
Transmission just won’t last in this truck and it’s dangerous when you have kids in it
I pulled into a parking lot, and into a parking spot. I put the truck in reverse to back up and straighten the truck, when I started to pull back in the brake pedal became hard to press. I had to stand up on the brake pedal to keep from hitting the car parked in front of me. It also happened another time while backing out of a parking spot when someone walked behind the vehicle, and I had to stand on the pedal.
The power steering goes in and out when trying to turn into parking spots or slowly turning. ALL THE TIME!!!!!!
2015 5.3 with afm related failure / lifter collapse still within warranty by mileage (5 yrs, 100,000 miles I think), out by years in service, was diagnosed by a GM authorized dealership by a GM Master Certified Technician and under the supervision of service manager. Issue Description On 6/18/2025, the dealership diagnosed a failure in the #7 lifter due to afm / afm related failure / lifter collapse. The vehicle’s engine, diagnosed at approximately 58,000 miles and minimal idle hours. While the GM Master technician is confident that only one side of lifters require immediate replacement, there is a possibility of damage to the camshaft lobe, which cannot be inspected without significant additional labor. There is also a concern about potential metal contamination in the oil, which could further impact the engine’s performance. I also have many documented repair orders indicating my concern with the transmissions performance.
Hit gooseneck dump trailer attached to Dodge Ram 2500 truck. Hit trailer frame square below tailgate. Silverado was total loss. Airbags did not deploy, driver suffered injury to face on steering wheel. Front passenger suffered some bruising from seatbelt. Driver was hospitalized a week later with a seizure with no known medical cause and no history of seizures 50+ years.
FEW TIME THE TRUCK SHUT OFF ON ME WHILE PULLING INTO PARKING LOT AND TAKE TO MECANIC THEY DONT FIND THE PROBLEM THE LAS INSIDENT HAPEN 6/5/2025
Component that failed Lifter failure causing camshaft damage. I was driving my truck at the time the engine failure and loss of propulsion. The problem was later linked to lifter failure. Car started to lose power and surge forward while I was in oncoming traffic. I pulled over and had my truck towed to the Jamestown Chevy Dealership. I have had all of my services done at the certified Chevrolet dealership. Their professional diagnosis was lifter problem with camshaft damage. The vehicle was inspected by mechanics at Sierra Motors in Jamestown Ca. No prior warning to the vehicle failure. Once the truck lost propulsion and was surging the check engine light and road traction light came on.
For years I have taken my truck in to see why it is grinding when shifting and was told it was nothing. Now it got so bad my truck completely lost the ability to accelerate at all. The records I had at James Corlew have been lost since they changed to a new owner. I have spent over 7000 to get this fixed
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet 1500. The contact stated that while in the driveway and reversing at a very slow speed, the brake pedal became extremely firm while depressed, and the vehicle failed to stop before striking another parked vehicle. During the failure the contact was depressing the brake pedal with added force, but the vehicle failed to stop. The parked vehicle sustained damages to the front bumper. The contact stated the brake failure had also occurred while driving and while reversing at slow speeds. The cause of the failures were not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 197,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel became inoperable with the power steering warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the steering control module had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving in traffic on a main road at approximately 3 MPH, while attempting to slow down, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The contact pumped the brake pedal and the vehicle responded as needed. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the brake booster was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC); as a possible cause for the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 71,000.
My engine shakes when shifting into the V4 from the V6 and my transmission shifts hard as well as a dieseling affect when shifting from 2nd gear to 3rd gear. Rear main seal was replaced 1000 miles ago and now has to be replaced again due to the rapid shaking of the V4 cylinder deactivation(which was a terrible way to make the reliable 4.3 Lt engine unreliable)
Experienced a problem with electrical theft deterrent system and it shut the vehicle off while driving. I tried to start the vehicle and nothing happened except it said theft deterrent system. I took the key out tried starting again and it turned over immediately. The dash said theft deterrent and I clicked dismiss but the dash icon (a car with a lock light) remained on. I then drove 11 miles home. I turned on my directional proceeded to brake upon approaching my driveway. As I attempted to turn the steering wheel the vehicle completely shut off. The info system stating theft deterrent active. I lost power steering and brakes. I needed to press the brakes with great force because the vehicle was headed towards the sidewalk and a road sign. Steering was virtually unresponsive. Vehicle stopped as the tires reached the curb and approximately 1 ft from the sign. Placed vehicle in park and started it back up. Pulled into my driveway and the info system stated I need to roll the drivers window down and the up to deactivate. I have checked all battery connections are intact and tight. The battery, starter and alternator were all checked and fine. I have no idea what caused this dangerous behavior. The incident happened on MA Rt. 126 988 S. Main st Bellingham MA 02019
