THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAD TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY STOP BECAUSE OF A RUSTED-THRU BRAKE LINE. THIS TIME, I WAS ENTERING A HIGH-SPEED MERGE FROM ONE FOUR LANE HIGHWAY TO ANOTHER AND TRAFFIC WAS BACKING UP. I HAD TO APPLY THE BRAKES SLIGHTLY HARD TO SLOW DOWN IN TIME. PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR WITH ABOUT 20% OF THE NORMAL BRAKING POWER AVAILABLE. WAS NOT GOING TO STOP IN TIME AND WAS FORCED TO DRIVE OFF THE ROAD TO AVOID REAR-ENDING ANOTHER CAR AND ONTO THE ROAD SHOULDER AT SPEED. BARELY HAD ENOUGH ROOM BETWEEN A MAJOR HIGHWAY SIGN WHICH WAS NEXT TO THE SHOULDER AND THE CARS IN MY LANE. AFTER REPEATEDLY PUMPING THE BRAKES (WHICH YOU ARE TAUGHT NOT TO DO WITH ANTILOCK BRAKES), THE SUV FINALLY CAME TO A STOP. WITHOUT THE SHOULDER, I WOULD'VE CAUSED A MULTI-CAR ACCIDENT WITH INJURIES. I DROVE THE CAR AT SLOW SPEED DIRECTLY TO MY SHOP WHO RECOMMENDED REPLACING EVERY BRAKE LINE (EVERY BRAKE LINE WAS HORRIBLY RUSTED AND BRITTLE). CUSTOM BRAKE LINES FOR THIS REPAIR COST $1800!! I HAD SPENT $400 ON THE FIRST REPAIR. TRUST ME, EVERY GM SUV FROM THESE YEARS HAS THIS PROBLEM AND ARE GOING TO CAUSE ACCIDENTS AND PEOPLE WILL BE KILLED!!! THIS VEHICLE WEIGHS 5500 POUNDS. *TR
2001 SUBURBAN - WHEN I APPLIED MY BRAKES COMING TO A STOP SIGN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALMOST TO THE FLOOR LEAVING ME BARELY ANY BRAKING POWER, BUT FORTUNATELY SINCE I WAS DRIVING AT A SLOW SPEED (25 MPH) I WAS ABLE TO STOP IN TIME. I THEN DROVE TO A GARAGE WHICH WAS VERY CLOSE TO WHERE I WAS AND HAD THEM PUT IT UP ON THE RACK TO LOOK AT IT. THEY INFORMED ME THAT ALL OF MY BRAKES LINES WERE VERY RUSTY AND THE ONE REAR LINE HAD BROKEN, I LEFT IT THERE AND HAD THAT LINE REPLACED BUT AFTER REPLACING THAT LINE ANOTHER 2 LINES BROKE DURING THEIR TESTING AFTER THE FIRST REPAIRS. I ENDED UP HAVING 3 REAR LINES AND THE 2 LINES TO AND FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER REPLACED (3 THAT BROKE AND 2 OTHER ONES THAT LOOKED REALLY BAD) AT A COST OF ABOUT $800, I AM NOW GOING TO GET THE REMAINING 2 FRONT BRAKE LINES REPLACED "BEFORE" THEY BRAKE ON ME ALSO. THESE 2 LINES ARE THE HARDEST TO REPLACE AND I WAS GIVEN AN ESTIMATE OF ABOUT $700-$800 TO REPLACE THEM. THE ONE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT A COUPLE OF YEARS EARLIER HIS BRAKE LINES ALSO BROKE ON HIS SUBURBAN COMING UP TO A RED LIGHT AND HE HAD TO DRIVE ON THE BIRM TO AVOID REAR ENDING THE CAR IN FRONT OF HIM. HE HAD TO REPLACE ALL OF HIS SUBURBANS BRAKE LINES.I LIVE IN WESTERN PA AND HAVE BEEN DRIVING HERE FOR ALMOST 40 YEARS WITH MANY DIFFERENT VEHICLES DURING THAT TIME BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD BRAKE LINES RUST AND BREAK LIKE THIS. FROM WHAT I HAVE BEEN READING, THIS MUST BE FROM FAULTY BRAKE LINE MATERIAL, NONE OF MY MANY OTHER VEHICLES HAVE EVER HAD THIS HAPPEN SO CHEVY CANNOT JUST BLAME IT ON LIVING IN A SNOW/ROAD SALT AREA. *** I PLAN ON GOING WITH A DIFFERENT MANUFACTURER WHEN I GET MY NEXT SUV. *TR
THE BOLTS THAT HOLD THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS DOWN ARE BREAKING OFF AT THE HEADS AND CAUSING EXHAUST LEAKS. WHICH ARE IN TURN CAUSING MY CATALYTIC CONVERTERS FAIL PREMATURELY. I HOPE GM FIXES THIS MASSIVE PROBLEM WITH THERE LS V8 ENGINES! *TR
ON JANUARY 29, 2014, MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING MY SUBURBAN TRAVELING ON A SNOW AND ICY ROAD WHEN THE SUBURBAN BEGIN TO SPIN AND WENT DOWN AN EMBANKMENT. HE WAS TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE BETWEEN THE STEERING WHEEL AND WINDSHIELD. HE WAS WEARING THE SHOULDER AND LAP BELT.THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. TWO OTHER PASSENGERS IN THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY MINOR INJURIES. THE TENNESSEE TRAFFIC REPORT I RECEIVED STATED: AIRBAG AVAILABLE-NO DEPLOYMENT. *TR
I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND PROCEEDED TO PARK MY SUBURBAN. I HIT THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK. THEY PULSATE AND GAVE OUT COMPLETELY. NO SERVICE LIGHTS OR WARNING LIGHT CAME ON PREVIOUS TO THE INCIDENT. WHEN THE BRAKES DIDN'T WORK I TRIED TO PUMP THEM TO GET THEM TO WORK BUT NOTHING WORKED AND MY SUBURBAN SMASHED INTO A BUSH AND OVER THE CURB. I JUST HAD MY BRAKE LINES REPLACES WHICH WAS QUOTED $1700 AT MY LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP. I AM NO LOOKING INTO THE ISSUES WITH THE ABS SYSTEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO DRIVE AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO MOVE FORWARD. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. ON ANOTHER OCCASION WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MECHANIC ALSO STATED THAT THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED AND UNKNOWN PARTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE BUT THE FUEL PUMP WAS NOT REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) AND 05V155000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
WHILE DRIVING BRAKE LINE RUPTURED DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST , VEHICLE TOWED ALL BRAKE LINE RUSTED AND REPLACED ESPECIALLY AT SECURE POINTS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC LOSS OF BRAKING DUE TO RUPTURED BRAKE LINE. UPON INSPECTION ALL LINE HAD SEVERE CORROSION RESULTING IN REPLACEMENT OF ALL BRAKE LINES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR BRAKE FAILED TO ENGAGE WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY USING THE FRONT BRAKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE REAR BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED AND LEAKING BRAKE FLUID. THE REAR BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 165,000.
THE BRAKES FAILED AND THE PEDAL LAST ALL PRESSURE AND WENT TO THE FLOOR. WAS SUCCESSFUL IN STOPPING THE VEHICLE FROM 35 MPH WITHOUT INCIDENT. UPON INSPECTION, THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE BRAKE LINE WAS SEVERELY CORRODED AND FAILED. FURTHER INSPECTION SHOWED THAT OTHER BRAKE LINE ARE IN THE SIMILAR CONDITION. *LN
LOST TOTAL BRAKES. SERVICE SHOP NOTED SEVERE BRAKE LINE RUSTING. REPAIRED RUPTURED BRAKE LINE. TRUCK WILL BE UNDERGOING TOTAL BRAKE LINE REPLACEMENT DUE TO RUSTING. *TR
I HAD JUST ACCELERATED FROM A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND TWO CARS PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME. THEY WERE FORCED TO STOP IMMEDIATELY DUE TO A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF THEM MAKING A LEFT TURN. THIS FORCED ME TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY STOP. I JAMMED ON THE BRAKES, THE ANTILOCK SYSTEM ACTIVATED, THE TIRES STARTED TO SQUEAL AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOORBOARD. FORTUNATELY, THE TURNING CAR WAS ABLE TO MAKE HIS TURN AND THE TWO CARS THAT PULL OUT IN FRONT OF ME WERE ABLE TO GET MOVING AND OUT OF THE WAY AS I SLOWLY CAME TO A STOP. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY CHECKED THE BRAKES OUT. THE BRAKE LINE RUPTURED DUE TO RUST. THEY HAD TO REPLACE ALL THE BRAKE LINE DUE TO EXTREME RUST. THEY WERE RUSTIER THAN RUSTY, THEY WERE TRASH. UPON INSPECTION OF THE BRAKE LINES I NOTICED THAT ONLY THE BRAKES LINES WERE EXTREMELY RUSTY. REST OF UNDERSIDE WAS NOT TO RUSTY AT ALL. AS A RETIRED QUALITY SUPERVISOR WITH OVER 30 YEARS EXPERIENCE IN THE METAL STAMPING INDUSTRY I AM FULLY CONVINCED THAT SOMETHING IS DEFINITLY NOT RIGHT HERE. THE BRAKE SYSTEM IS A SAFETY RELATED ITEM THE LINES SHOULD NOT RUST OUT AS THESE LINES DID. I BELIEVE THE WRONG MATERIAL WAS USED FOR THESE LINES OR A STEP IN THE RUST PREVENTION PROCESS WAS NOT PERFORMED THAT LED TO THIS PREMATURE RUSTING. BRAKE LINES SHOULD NOT RUST OUT LIKE THESE LINES DID. *JS
BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WHEN APPLIED IN A PARKING LOT. PARKED VEHICLE. UPON RETURN LARGE PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID UNDER DRIVERS SIDE FRONT AND BRAKE LINE HAD FAILED. ALL BRAKE LINES ARE VERY CORRODED ON THIS 12 YEAR OLD VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, FUEL LINES ARE ALSO VERY CORRODED BUT HAVE NOT YET FAILED. *TR
COMING TO A STOP LIGHT THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. ONLY WAY I COULD STOP WAS BY USING THE ELECTRIC BRAKES ON MY TRAILER TO STOP THE COMBINED VEHICLE. EXAMINATION REVEALED A RUSTED BRAKE LINE COMING FROM THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE ABS MODULE AT THE ABS MODULE UNDER THE VEHICLE. FURTHER EXAMINATION REVEALED THAT THE 4 BRAKE LINES FROM THE ABS MODULE TO THE WHEELS WERE ALL RUSTED/PITTED AND ABOUT READY TO RUST THROUGH. *TR
BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALMOST TO FLOOR WHEN APPROACHING A STOP SIGN. STOPPING ABILITY WAS VERY POOR. WE WERE CLOSE TO HOME, SO WE RETURNED HOME. UPON INSPECTION BRAKE FLUID WAS DRIPPING DOWN FRAME RAIL UNDER DRIVERS SEAT, WHERE ABOUT FIVE BRAKE LINES ENTER THE ABS VALVE UNIT. THE BRAKE LINES WERE ALL SEVERELY RUSTED TO THE POINT ONE FAILED. VERY BAD LOCATION FOR THE ABS VALVE, AS THE BRAKE LINES FOLLOW THE FRAME RAIL FROM THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL TO THE ABS UNIT AND ARE PRONE TO COLLECTING ROAD SALT SPRAY. SERVICE ACCESS IS LIMITED AND AWKWARD. THIS SAME FAILURE OCCURRED ON MY 2001 SILVERADO PICKUP IN AUGUST 2010. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ALONG AND WITHOUT WARNING WHEN I WENT TO APPLY MY BRAKES THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. LUCKILY I WAS JUST GOING TO SLOW DOWN FOR AN EXIT AND NOBODY WAS DIRECTLY IN-FRONT OF ME. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A MORE SERIOUS INCIDENT UNDER OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES I GOT THE VEHICLE HOME I INVESTIGATED AND FOUND THE BRAKE LINES WERE ALL RUSTED AND ONE OF THEM HAD BURST A HOLE. THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM FOR SOMEONE THAT MIGHT BE IN A DIFFERENT DRIVING SCENARIO THAN I WAS.PLEASE LOOK HEAVILY INTO THIS PROBLEM. THANK YOU *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CAME SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED BECAUSE THE REPLACEMENT PART WAS NOT READILY AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 124,000. UPDATED 04/15/14 MA
BRAKE FAILURE. METAL BRAKE LINE BETWEEN MASTER CYLINDER AND CALIPER DEVELOPED A LEAK DUE TO CORROSION OF THE METAL BRAKE LINE. MECHANIC SAID ALL METAL BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AND CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I UNDERSTAND THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY ON THESE FAULTY LINES. THE REPLACEMENT OF THESE LINES WAS VERY EXPENSIVE AND WAS DEFINITELY A PREMATURE FAILURE IN MY OPINION. LUCKILY MY 20 YEAR OLD SON NOTICED THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS GOING TO THE FLOOR WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE AND WAS ABLE TO SAFELY EXIT THE HIGHWAY. IF THE LINE WOULD HAVE FAILED A FEW MINUTES EARLIER, HE WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A CRASH. *TR
MOVING MY BOAT IN THE DRIVEWAY AND WHEN I WENT TO STOP MY BRAKE LINE FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE ABS CONTROLLER FAILED CAUSING NO BRAKING!!! PUMPED THEM LIKE CRAZY AND IT JUST PISSED OUT ALL OF THE FLUID. I HAD MY CHILDREN PLAYING IN THE AREA AND I WAS FORTUNATE THAT THEY WERE NOT KILLED! UPON INSPECTION THE BRAKE LINE ROTTED AT THE POINTS WHERE THEY ARE HELD ONTO THE FRAME BY THE HANGERS! THIS IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS AND I BELIEVE THAT GM SHOULD HAVE SOME LIABILITY IN THIS MATTER. THE VEHICLE IS BARELY JUST OVER 10 YEARS OLD AND THIS IS A MAJOR FLAW IN DESIGN. THE SCARY PART IS THE LINES LOOK GREAT OVERALL BUT WHERE THEY ARE PLACED IN ALL OF THE HANGERS THEY HAD ROT SPOTS IN THEM THAT WAS ONLY APPARENT AFTER DIS-ASSEMBLY. A NORMAL SAFETY INSPECTION WOULD NOT PICK UP ON THE CORROSION HIDDEN WITHIN THE HANGERS. *TR
WHILE MAKING A SUDDEN STOP, A HYDRAULIC LINE SERVING THE FRONT BRAKES RUPTURED CAUSING COMPLETE LOSS OF FRONT BRAKES. THIS IS THE THIRD HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINE FAILURE ON THIS VEHICLE. THE FIRST TWO LINES TO FAIL WERE ON THE REAR AXLE. ALL OF THE REMAINING HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINES ARE HEAVILY RUSTED AND PITTED, THEY ALL ARE AT RISK OF FAILURE AT ANY TIME. THIS PROBLEM IS WIDESPREAD ON THIS YEAR AND MODEL VEHICLE. IT POSES A SERIOUS RISK TO THE DRIVERS AND TO THE PERSONS AND PROPERTY OF OTHERS. EVERY ONE OF THE OWNERS SHOULD BE NOTIFIED THAT THEIR VEHICLE MAY REQUIRE REPLACEMENT BRAKE LINES. WHOSE RESPONSIBILITY IT SHALL BE IS UP TO NHTSA, BUT THE NEED FOR INFORMATION IS GREAT. THIS IS A HEAVY WEIGHT VEHICLE FOR ORDINARY CONSUMER USE. MOST SUCH USERS ARE UNPREPARED FOR A BRAKE FAILURE OF THIS KIND. INTERESTINGLY, GM DOES NOT OFFER REPLACEMENT PARTS. PRECISION FORMED LINES ARE AVAILABLE ON THE AFTERMARKET. THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALER USES NON-CORRODING COPPER-NICKEL REPLACEMENT LINE, AND FABRICATES THE LINES LOCALLY. THE SAME BRAKE LINE METALLURGY WAS USED IN HIGH END EUROPEAN CARS (VOLVO AND PORSCHE) BEGINNING IN THE 1980S. *TR
I HAVE OWNED MY 2001 CHEVY SUBURBAN SINCE JANUARY OF 2008. I HAVE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP 3 TIMES AND TODAY WILL BE MY 4TH. I HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ON THE SAME PART OVER AND OVER. THE LAST TIME IT WAS REPLACED MY MECHANIC ADVISED US TO KEEP AT LEAST 1/4 TANK OF GAS IN THE TANK WHICH I HAVE TRIED TO DO. BUT EVEN DOING THIS THE FUEL PUMP SEEMS TO GO ABOUT EVERY 15 MONTHS, JUST OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY. ITS RIDICULOUS, THERE IS NO WAY I SHOULD BE REPLACING FUEL PUMPS AT THIS RATE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 55MPH I WAS NEAR MY EXIT AND ACTIVATED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I WAS FORTUNATE TO HAVE THE ROOM TO CHANGE LANES AND PASS MY EXIT AND DOWNSHIFTED TO SLOW AND EVENTUALLY STOP. I HAD TRIED TO APPLY THE PARKING BRAKE AND THE CABLE SNAPPED ON THE SPOT. AFTER GETTING THE CAR TO A MECHANIC I WAS TOLD THAT EVERY BRAKE LINE WAS CORRODED AND MOST WERE FAILING. THE MECHANIC ALSO SAID IT ISN'T RECOMMENDED TO REPLACE JUST THE LEAKING LINES BECAUSE ONCE THE PRESSURE IS RESTORED, THE REMAINING LINES WOULD THEN LIKELY FAIL. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP AND I AM WAITING FOR WHAT I AM SURE WILL BE A SIZABLE REPAIR BILL. *TR
I PURCHUSED 2001 SUBURBAN AND TRIED TO CONTACT THE RECALL PEOPLE AT 18006302438 ABOUT RECALL #54628-05V379000.THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP ME BECAUSE THE SERVICE ALREADY BEEN DONE. BUT THE VEHICLE IS DOING THE SAME THING THE RECALL SAID ITS DOING. *TR
I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK ON 1/25/2013. COMING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION I WAS STRUCK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE BY AN 18 WHEELER. I WOKE UP IN THE HOSPITAL ALMOST A MONTH LATER. PICTURES OF MY VEHICLE SHOW THAT MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. GOOD THING I HAD MY SEAT BELT ON. MD SAY THE BRUISING TO HEART OTHER INTERNAL INJURIES WOULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED HAD AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. *JS
BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. WAS ABLE TO STOP WITH EMERG BRAKE. DEALER SAYS ALL BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED OUT AND MUST BE REPLACED $2000. *TR
WAS DRIVING VEHICLE ON A 2 LANE PUBLIC ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH WHEN PEDAL SUDDENLY BECAME SOFT AND REQUIRED MANY ACTUATION TO STOP. VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO STOP IN THE ANTICIPATED DISTANCE AND A COLLISION WITH CROSS-TRAFFIC NEARLY OCCURRED. ON INVESTIGATION, THE MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR WAS EMPTY AND THERE WAS LEAKING FROM MULTIPLE BRAKE LINES FROM CORROSION. *TR
ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATED AND PREVENTED THE CAR FROM SLOWING DOWN. LIFTED MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND TRIED AGAIN, IT SEEMED TO WORK. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES AND ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATES INCORRECTLY AT ABOUT 5 MILES PER HOUR. *TR
I HAVE A 2001 1500 CHEVY SUBURBAN THAT I PURCHASED BRAND NEW. IT WAS 109,000 MILES ON IT. MY TRANSMISSION WENT OUT WITH NO WARNING AT 50,000 MILES. WE WERE 4 HRS. FROM HOME WHEN IT STARTED GOING OUT. WHEN WE WERE 3 HRS. FROM HOME WE LOST 3RD GEAR AND DROVE IN 2ND AT 40 MILES PER HR. STOPPING SEVERAL TIMES ALONG THE WAY TO LET IT COOL DOWN. WE MADE IT 2 HRS FROM HOME AND MADE THE DECISION TO PARK IT SOMEWHERE IT WILL BE SAFE TO LEAVE IT OVERNIGHT. THANK GOD OUR SON WAS FOLLOWING US IN HIS VEHICLE TO GIVE US A RIDE HOME. THE FOLLOWING DAY WE HAD TO RETURN TO TOW IT HOME. I AM BEYOND LIVID. THIS VEHICLE IS ONLY DRIVEN IN TOWN AND THE OCCASIONAL VACATION OR ROAD TRIP. IT HAS A TOW PKG BUT HASN'T BEEN USED TO PULL THINGS. IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED BY MY HUSBAND THAT IS A MECHANIC. THIS VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN MISUSED OR ABUSED. SO WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH CHEVROLET SUBURBAN'S? WE HAVE HAD ABSOLUTELY NO OTHER ISSUES WITH IT AND HAVE LOVED THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND NOTICED I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS ISSUE.. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? HOW DOES CHEVROLET PLAN ON HANDLING THIS ISSUE? THREE TRANSMISSIONS IN ONE VEHICLE WITH THAT LOW OF MILEAGE IS RIDICULOUS. CHEVROLET YOU ARE PRODUCING FAULTY PRODUCTS. PULLING UP TO A STOP SIGN I ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE, BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL DROPPED TO THE FLOOR AND ONLY OFFERED A MINUSCULE AMOUNT OF STOPPING POWER, I LIMPED 1.5 MILES HOME USING DOWNSHIFTING. BRAKE LINES ARE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT AND APPARENTLY BURST, BRAKE FLUID CONTAINER UNDER HOOD WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY. I CANT EVEN THINK WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I HAD BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY AND THEY FAILED. *TR
WHILE BRAKING AT A STOP LIGHT THE ABS STARTED MAKING A BUZZING SOUND; IT FAILED. THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM NO LONGER BE USED SAFELY. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,700 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 115,736.
WIFE WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY IN OUR SUBURBAN AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. SHE HAD TO COAST OVER 5 LANES OF TRAFFIC AND GET INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE. TRUCK STARTED AFTER 4 ATTEMPTS AND WORKED FINE FOR 2 MORE DAYS. IT THEN DIED 2 MORE TIMES IN ONE DAY WITHOUT WARNING. IT AGAIN STARTED FINE AFTER 4 TO 5 ATTEMPTS. THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR IS DEFECTIVE AND THERE WAS A RECALL OF OTHER 2001 MODELS WITH THE 8.1L BUT IT DID NOT INCLUDE MY SEQUENCE. THIS PART IS FAULTY AND PUT MY WIFE'S LIFE IN DANGER. THEY SHOULD RECALL ALL 8.1L CRANKSHAFT SENSORS. THIS IS A ISSUE AND THERE ARE TONS OF THREADS ON MESSAGE BOARDS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. *TR
MY VEHICLE'S "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT CONTINUES TO LIGHT UP EVEN AFTER HAVING THE CODE ERASED. MANY OTHER OWNERS OF CHEVROLET SUBURBANS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. OBD CODE P0332 STATES THE KNOCK SENSOR HAS LOW VOLTAGE. THE PROBLEM MANY PEOPLE HAVE IS WHEN WATER OR MOISTURE GETS INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WATER BEGINS TO POOL OVER THE SENSOR AND SEEP INTO THE SENSORS. THE LACKING OF WATER SEAL IN THIS POOLING AREA DAMAGES THE SENSORS. THE VEHICLE THUS CANNOT PASS IT'S BI-YEARLY SMOG TEST AND ALSO CREATES A FALSE SENSE OF VEHICLE RELIABILITY. I WAS TAKING MY SUBURBAN IN FOR IT'S ANNUAL SAFETY INSPECTION AND WAS NOTIFIED BY MY MECHANIC THAT ONE OF THE VEHICLE'S BRAKE LINES (EXITING THE ABS PUMP) WAS LEAKING AND THAT ALL FIVE OF THE PRIMARY BRAKE LINES ARE EXTERNALLY RUSTED AND NEAR BREAKING. ALL FIVE LINES NEED TO BE REPLACED RESULTING IN VERY COSTLY REPAIRS. I HAVE SIX CHILDREN AND WE REGULARLY TRAVEL AS A FAMILY. THIS POTENTIAL FAILURE HAS JEOPARDIZED MY CHILDREN'S LIVES AND GM SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR SELLING AN INFERIOR PRODUCT. THE VEHICLE HAS 88,000 MILES AND IS REGULARLY MAINTAINED. *JS

ALSO, THE ABS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK). THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER THE REPAIR. THE ABS HAD BEEN REPLACED A TOTAL OF SEVEN TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
ABS SYSTEM WAS SERVICED AS PART OF 2006 RECALL CAMPAIGN. SENSORS WERE CLEANED AND RETURNED TO SERVICE. PLEASE NOTE THAT IN 2006 WHEN ISSUE FIRST SURFACED, ONE WEEK PRIOR TO RECALL, CHEVROLET DEALER QUOTED A PRICE OVER $800.00 TO REPLACE HUBS. THEN WHEN RECALL WAS ANNOUNCED, THEY SAID THE HUBS COULD BE CLEANED. IN NOVEMBER 2011 SENSORS FAILED AGAIN AND HUBS (HOUSING SENSORS) WERE REPLACED. THE RECALL CAMPAIGN WAS NOT EFFECTIVE. *TR

SINCE MY LAST MAJOR REPAIR WHICH WAS JULY 2010 WHEN MY RADIATOR AND TIMING BELT HAD MALFUNCTION, WHICH I PAID $653.34 FOR REPAIRS, THE SURBURBAN BEGAN TO STALL AFTER MY LAST OIL CHANGE AT THE DEALERSHIP WHICH WAS 10/04/2011. THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL EACH TIME THE IGNITION KEY WAS TURNED, THEN IT WOULD STALL COMPLETELY AFTER A COUPLE OF TRIES. NOW, THE 2001 SUBURBAN 1500 VEHICLE OF MINE WOULD HAVE A FUEL LEAKAGE AND THE ENGINE STALLS WITH NO RESTART. I TOLD THE DEALERSHIP AFTER MY OIL CHANGE THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED RIGHT AS WE WERE LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP, BUT MY HUSBAND AND I WERE TOLD IT WAS DUE TO THE RECENT OIL CHANGE. NOW THE PROBLEM STILL EXIST WITH NO RESTART AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID TO BRING IT BACK WITH A $90 FEE TO EXAMINE THE VEHICLE WHICH THEY BELIEVE ITS THE FUEL PUMP. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD'VE BEEN OBSERVED THE DAY OF THE OIL CHANGE WHEN WE INITIALLY OBSERVE THE PROBLEM. IT SEEMS EACH TIME WE HAVE THE VEHICLE OIL CHANGE A PROBLEM OCCUR THE SAME DAY, INWHICH ITS COSTLY TO US. THIS PROBLEM CONTINUES TO EXIST NOW WITH NO START AND THE DEALERSHIP CHARGES US EACH TIME AFTER THE OIL CHANGE TO DETERMINE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS WHICH AS PREVIOUSLY STATED, OCCURS AFTER EACH TIMELY OIL CHANGE. *TR

WHEN I WENT TO SEE WHAT IT WAS DOING, NOTICED THAT THE BRAKES WERE ALSO VERY DIFFICULT TO OPERATE. WAS ABLE TO BACK THE TRAILER INTO THE DRIVEWAY WITH MUCH EFFORT TO ADJUST THE STEERING. HATE TO THINK WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF IT WENT WHILE TOWING A TRAILER ON THE HIGHWAY WITH THE RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. VERIFIED FLUID WAS FULL AND BELT AND PULLEY WERE SPINNING NORMALLY. MECHANIC SUGGESTED TO CHECK PULLEY, WAS ABLE TO MOVE IT FORWARD FROM THE POWER STEERING UNIT EASILY WITH A SCREW DRIVER. *KB

I CHECKED THE WEBSITE NHTSA.GOV TO VERIFY AND THE RECALL #07V521000 DID EXIST. I CONTACTED THE CHEVY DEALER (NASH CHEVROLET) IN SNELLVILLE AND WAS TOLD THAT MY VIN# WAS NOT IN THE BATCH AND IF THEY SERVICED IT, THE COST WOULD BE $2500. I CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THAT MY PROBLEM COULD BE ATTRIBUTED TO WEAR AND TEAR. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE IS ANY POSSIBILITY TO GET THE DEALER TO REPAIR MY CAR AND IF IT'S POSSIBLE TO HAVE THE INVESTIGATION REOPENED AND THE SCOPE ADJUSTED TO INCLUDE ALL 2001 SUBURBANS THAT ARE NONCONFORMING. I WOULD LIKE TO ALSO KNOW, HOW DOES GM/CHEVY DETERMINE WHICH CUSTOMERS DESERVE TO BE SAFE ON THE ROAD, AND WHY WEREN'T ALL THEIR QUALIFYING CONSUMERS NOTIFIED. IS GM ABOVE THE LAW?
