TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD EITHER STALL WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS OR FAIL TO START. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V155000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 141,229.
AFTER ENTERING THE PARKING LOT OF THE LOCAL SHOPPING CENTER I APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PARK IN THE MARKED SPACE BUT THE TRUCK DID NOT STOP, THE PEDAL TRAVEL ALL THE WAY DOWN BUT NO BREAKING EFFECT AT ALL, FORTUNATELY THAT SECTION OF THE LOT WAS MOSTLY EMPTY AND I LET THE TRUCK ROLL TO ALMOST A STOP, PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN AND DID NOT STOP SO ENDED UP USING THE PARKING BRAKE TO STOP THE TRUCK. NO WARNING LIGHT EVER CAME ON SO I WENT TO CHECK THE RUBBER HOSES AND BRAKE LINES UNDER THE TRUCK FINDING A BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING FROM THE AREA UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT, CLOSE TO A BIG RUBBER " DOUGHNUT " ( CHASSIS MOUNT ). I PUSHED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND FLUID SPRAYED AGAIN FROM THAT AREA. THERE ARE SEVERAL BRAKE PIPES RUNNING TO AND FROM A SENSOR OR EQUALIZING VALVE MOUNTED ON THE CHASSIS IN THAT AREA. AFTER TOWING THE TRUCK HOME I WENT UNDER IT AND FOLLOW THE TUBING LEAVING FROM THAT AREA TO THE FRONT AND THE REAR OF THE TRUCK, AND IT IS ALL RUSTED WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE FLEXIBLE HOSES GOING TO THE CALIPERS. I OWN TWO OTHER CARS ( NOT CHEVY'S) THAT ARE OLDER AND USED UNDER THE SAME CONDITIONS AS THE SUBURBAN AND THE BRAKE PIPING LOOKS LIKE NEW ON THOSE, SO I'M INCLINED TO THINK THIS CONDITION IS PARTICULAR TO SUBURBANS OR CHEVROLET IN GENERAL. WOULD THIS INCIDENT HAD NOT OCCURRED IN A PARKING LOT IT WOULD HAVE ENDED IN AN ACCIDENT OR A FATALITY. I'M CALLING THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP MONDAY TO CHECK FOR ANY OUTSTANDING RECALL FOR MY TRUCK BUT NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE. THIS TRUCK WAS BOUGHT NEW AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN USED IN MARYLAND, THE WINTERS ARE NOT EXTREME HERE AND MY ONLY THEORY FOR THE EXCESSIVE RUSTING IS THAT THE BRAKE LINES ARE TOO CHEAP. TRUCK WILL BE PARKED INDEFINITELY AND AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION IF REQUESTED. *TT
HAD NEW WILDCOUNTRY TIRE, PURCHASED FROM LES SCHWAB SEPARATE FROM THE WHEEL OUT TO A DEFECT. TIRE HAD ONLY BEEN ON THE WHEEL APPROXIMATELY 6 HOURS BEFORE THE INCIDENT. LT 26570R16. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED THREE DIFFERENT TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS, WHERE THE TECHNICIANS STATED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED INTO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND AND THE CONTACT DROVE INTO THE CURB TO PREVENT A CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC AND LOCATED THE FAILURE AS A RUPTURED BRAKE LINE, CAUSED BY CORROSION. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE BRAKE LINE AND THE MASTER CYLINDER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 113,854. UPDATED 9/16/11 *CN UPDATED 2/23/12 *CN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK, THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, BUT THE PEDAL DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD UNTIL CRASHING INTO A MEDIAN. AS A RESULT, THE MEDIAN MOVED AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE HEAD ON. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE BRAKES LINES WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK). THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE DEALER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 110,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL STOPPED ILLUMINATING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 145,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE NOTICED SMOKE EMITTING FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND AFTER OPENING THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR, HE REALIZED THAT THE DRIVER HEATED SEAT HAD CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CONTACTED WHO FILED A REPORT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFERED ANY ASSISTANCE AND FILE A REPORT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 190,000.
FAILED BRAKES DUE TO BRAKE FLUID LEAD IN CORRODED BRAKE LINES. *KB
WHILE TOWING MY TRAVEL TRAILER BACK FROM A TRAILER INSPECTION I NOTICED THE BRAKE ON MY 2001 CHEVY 2500 SUBURBAN FOR UNCOMFORTABLY CLOSE TO THE FLOOR. UPON ARRIVAL AFTER SLOWLY LIMPING HOME USING MOSTLY THE TRAILER BRAKES I FOUND THAT A REAR BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED AND THE REAR MASTER CYLINDER TANK WAS EMPTY. A LOCAL AUTO SHOP CUT THE LINE AND ADDED A NEW SECTION. PER THE MECHANIC THE RUPTURED LINE IS RUSTED ALONG WITH THE ADJACENT LINES. THE CUT OUT SECTION WAS THROWN OUT BEFORE I COULD SAVE IT. *TR
MAIN BRAKE LINE LEAK, LOCATED ON TOP OF CHASSIS LEADING TO REAR BRAKES, LEAKED AT CLIP POINT UNDER PASSENGER DOOR WHERE ROAD SALT RESIDUE CAN SIT AND CORRODE LINE. LINE WAS ALSO HEAVILY RUSTED IN OTHER AREAS OF LINE ON TOP OF CHASSIS. ENTIRE LINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN K1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM FAILED DUE TO RUST AND A LEAK. WHILE STOPPING AT SLOW SPEEDS, THE BRAKES DO NOT STOP THE VEHICLE AND THE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE ABS CONTROL MODULE; REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER, THE FRONT HUBS AND THE BEARINGS ON BOTH THE RIGHT AND LEFT FRONT WHEELS FOR $2,000. THE VEHICLE WAS NEVER TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
THIS CONCERN HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR OVER A YEAR NOW. THE ABS LIGHT COMES ON AND WHEN YOU APPLY THE BRAKES THERE IS A LOUD NOISE AND THE VEHICLE DOES NOT STOP RIGHT AWAY BUT CONTINUES TO MOVE. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS I ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE ABS MODULE IS GOING AND THE PRICE TO FIX IT WAS ABSORBENT. TO ME THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY CHEVROLET AND NHTSA. *TR
2001 CHEVY SUBURBAN FUEL GAUGE READING EMPTY WHEN IT IS NOT EMPTY. SMELL OF FUEL AND BURNING COMING FROM CAR. FUEL GAUGE FLOATING, SHOEING EMPTY,FULL, HALF FULL. *LN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE ENGINE BEGAN TO BACKFIRE WHEN DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY INFORMED THAT THE CRANK SENSOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) YET, THE CONTACTS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 96,000.
THE SPARE TIRE ASSEMBLY'S STEEL WIRE BROKE WHILE SPARE TIRE WAS STORED UNDER THE TRUCK. THIS OCCURRED WHILE BACKING THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. *TR
WHILE BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY, OUR 2001 CHEVY SUBURBAN 1500 BEGAN SMOKING FROM UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT. AS I PARKED TO INVESTIGATE, FLAMES BEGAN TO CAME OUT FROM UNDER THE SEAT AND I PUT OUT THE FIRE WITH A WATER HOSE. THE FIRE SEEMS TO INITIATE FROM THE WIRING FOR THE SEAT CONTROL. LEFT MINOR DAMAGE UNDER THE SEAT, BURNT RUG AND WATER LOG FROM PUTTING THE FIRE OUT. INSURANCE COMPANY TO FOLLOW UP INVESTIGATION. *TR
FIRST INCIDENT: VEH. WOULD CRANK BUT NOT START. TURNED OUT TO BE FUEL DELIVERY FUSE. REPLACED, AND RAN FINE FOR SEVERAL WEEKS. SECOND INCIDENT: DRIVING AT APPROX. 55 MPH, VEHICLE LOST POWER, STARTED SPUTTERING AS IF OUT OF GAS ALTHOUGH IT WAS 1/4 FULL. UNABLE TO EXCEED 25 MPH DUE TO LITTLE/NO POWER. WAS TOWED TO AUTOPARTS STORE, CLEARED CODES, VEH RAN FINE FOR ABOUT 2 DAYS, THEN LOST POWER. TOWED HOME. LOOKED UP INFO ON INTERNET, FOUND RECALLS FOR FUEL PUMP. CALLED LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP, INQUIRED ABOUT RECALL, WAS TOLD THAT RECALL WAS ONLY ON HALF-TON SUBURBANS AND SINCE MINE IS 3/4 TON, IT WAS NOT COVERED BY RECALL. I REPLACED FUEL MODULE MYSELF AND DISCOVERED THE COVERING OF THE WIRES INSIDE THE FUEL MODULE ASSEMBLY HAD MELTED, ALLOWING THE BARE WIRES TO RUB AGAINST EACH OTHER, SHORTING OUT THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM (WHICH LIKELY CAUSED THE BLOWN FUSE TO BEGIN WITH). I AM VERY UPSET THAT MY SUBURBAN IS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL, EVEN THOUGH IT IS VIRTUALLY THE SAME SYSTEM AS WHAT IS IN THE THE 1/2 TON SUBURBANS, AND THE SAME PROBLEM EXISTS (AS EVIDENCED BY NOT ONLY MY OWN EXPERIENCE, BUT MANY OTHERS' EXPERIENCES AS WELL). I AM EXTREMELY DISTURBED THAT UNDER THE RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES, FUEL VAPORS, PLUS SPARK OF BARE WIRES TOUCHING, COULD IGNITE, CAUSING FIRE AND/OR EXPLOSION. POSSIBLY WITH MY FAMILY OF SIX IN THE VEHICLE.
NOTICED NO BOLT HEAD ON DRIVERS SIDE REAR EXHAUST MANIFOLD, WAS NOT SURE IF IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THERE. THEN FOUND ANOTHER BOLT HEAD IN SKID GUARD DURING OIL CHANGE, THIS WAS FROM THE FRONT BOLT OF SAME EXHAUST MANIFOLD! THE HEADS BROKE OFF CLEANLY FOR NO VISIBLE REASON. FIXED FRONT BOLT BUT REAR ONE REQUIRES EXHAUST MANIFOLD REMOVAL AT COST OF $400.00. THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS IF MORE BREAK! *TR
WIPER MOTOR FAIL. 2001 SUBURBAN 6.0L V8. WIPER MOTOR FAIL. THE WIPER MOTOR IN MY TRUCK ALWAYS FAILS. THE LAST TIME IT FAILED WAS SEPTEMBER 27TH 2010 DURING A HEAVY RAIN STORM. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT I ALMOST RAN OVER A PEDESTRIAN, AND ENDED UP ON THE SIDEWALK. (TECHNICALLY THAT IS A CRASH) THE WIPER MOTOR JUST STOPPED WHILE IT WAS RAINING. LAST YEAR DURING HEAVY SNOW THE MOTOR FAILED AGAIN. I HAD TO PULL OVER FOR AN HOUR UNTIL THE STORM WAS OVER. NOT TO MENTION NUMEROUS OTHER TIMES AS WELL. THIS MOTOR FAILS A LOT I LOST COUNT. THE EVENTS THAT LEAD UP TO THE FAILED WIPER MOTOR ARE RAIN , SNOW, SLEET, SOMETIME THE MOTOR FAILS DURING A SUNNY DAY AND NO MOISTURE IN THE AIR OR FAILED JUST TO CLEAN YOUR WINDOW. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THE WIPER MOTOR FAILURE BECAUSE IT'S TOO EXPENSIVE FOR ME; GENERAL MOTORS SHOULD FIX THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE GET KILLED. *TR
I HAVE SUBURBAN 2001, THE REAR WINDOW (TAILGATE WINDOW) GLASS SEPARATED FROM THE HINGES SUDDENLY. THIS IS COMMON PROBLEM IN GM SUBURBANS AND I AM AFRAID THIS MAY RESULT IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AS THE TAILGATE WINDOW MAY SEPARATE, FLY OFF AND HIT SOMETHING. I AM NOT SURE IF THE WINDOW WILL FLY OFF, MINE WAS HANGING FROM ONE HINGE UNTIL I CORRECTED IT. *TR
PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID#07V521000, THE 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 2500 IS SUBJECT TO THIS RECALL BY GM. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME DESCRIBED PROBLEM OF VEHICLE ENGINE STALLING AND NOT OPERATIVE WHILE TRAVELING ON THE ROAD. I HAVE CONTACTED BOTH GM AND GM'S LOCAL AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP IN CONCORD, CALIFORNIA. BOTH REFUSED TO HONOR THIS RECALL. PLEASE HELP BEFORE AN ACCIDENT OCCURRED. THANK YOU. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH WHEN THE ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR, THE VEHICLE WOULD BECOME INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO STOP. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS ADVISED THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTI LOCK). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE BECAME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,650 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 111,821.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER RECEIVING A RECALL NOTICE IN REFERENCE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK) AND FOR 05V155000(FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP). THE FIRST RECALL REPAIRED THE FAILURE THAT OCCURRED SEVEN MONTHS LATER WHEN THE ABS LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT HE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE BRAKING MODULE AND THE EBCM. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE SECOND RECALL NOTICE WAS ISSUED THE FAILURE OCCURRED LATER IN 2010 WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO ADVISED HIM THAT THE FUEL PUMP AND THE FUEL FILTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FUEL PUMP AND FILTER WERE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGES WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,600. UPDATED 03/24/11*LJ UPDATED 04/28/11
I WAS DRIVING MY SUBURBAN IN TOWN AT LOW SPEED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AS I TRIED TO STOP THE TRUCK. FORTUNATELY IT WAS NOT A COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE AND I WAS ABLE TO STOP IT AFTER A MUCH LONGER THAN USUAL STOPPING DISTANCE. THE TRUCK WAS BROUGHT TO A LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER AND THE ADVISOR NOTED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE VERY RUSTED AND LEAKING FLUID. ALL THE BREAK LINES HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A SIGNIFICANT COST TO ME. I HAVE TAKEN GOOD CARE OF THIS TRUCK AND THE BRAKE LINES SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST AS THEY DID. CHEVROLET SHOULD HAVE TREATED THE STEEL BRAKE LINES OR USED A DIFFERENT METAL TO MAKE THEM WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED TO AVOID THIS PROBLEM AND POSSIBLE SERIOUS AND FATAL ACCIDENTS DUE TO IT. *TR

2001 SUBURBAN K2500 COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKING DUE TO CORROSION AND RUPTURE OF BRAKE LINES FROM MASTER CYLINDER TO ABS UNIT AND FROM ABS UNIT TO RIGHT FRONT WHEEL. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM AS CURRENT INVESTIGATION PE10010. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH WHEN HE NOTICED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE DISPLAYED EMPTY WHICH WAS INACCURATE; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HIS RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE BY REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP MODULE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 69,000. UPDATED 08/24/10 *LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE ELECTRICAL WRING IN THE FUEL PUMP MODULE HAD MELTED THE INSULATION AND WAS CAUSING A SHORT IN SEVERAL PLACED. UPDATED 08/24/10
2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN BRAKE FAILURE DUE TO CORROSION ON LEFT REAR BRAKE LINE. I VERIFIED THE CORROSION BY CLIMBING UNDER THE TRUCK TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED. THIS FAILURE IS NOT DUE TO AN ACCIDENT WITH THE TRUCK NOR HAS THE BRAKE LINE BEEN CRUSHED DUE TO RUNNING OVER A LARGE OBSTRUCTION. THE BRAKE LINE IS LOCATED ABOVE THE VEHICLE FRAME RAIL. NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED DUE TO THIS FAILURE AS IT HAPPENED WHILE EXITING MY DRIVEWAY. I MANAGED TO STOP THE TRUCK USING MY EMERGENCY BRAKE. I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A CURRENT INVESTIGATION CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM ON CHEVY AND GM TRUCKS AND SUVS. I WENT TO MY LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERS SERVICE DEPARTMENT BUT WAS INFORMED THAT AS THERE IS NO RECALL THE EXPENSE WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY GM. *TR

THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED EXTENSIVE DAMAGES AND WAS TOWED FROM THE SCENE. THE CONTACT AND PASSENGERS SUSTAINED INJURIES AND WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT CALLED THE DEALERSHIP OR THE MANUFACTURER AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 105,000.

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESUME OPERATION WITH CAUTION. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 121,000.
THE ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATED FOR NO APPARENT REASON, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED WITH JUST THE PEDAL APPLICATION, ON DRY PAVEMENT UNDER 20 MPH. ACTIVATED AND INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE, WHILE KEEPING PEDAL PRESSURE ON. LUCKILY I TRY NOT TO FOLLOW CARS CLOSELY. HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS WHEN HITTING A BUMP, WHICH CAN ACTIVATE ABS SYSTEM DUE TO LOSS OF WHEEL TRACTION. IT SHOULD NOT HAPPEN ON DRY PAVEMENT, AND CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. GM SHOULD ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM, I DID THE PREVIOUS RECALL BUT I STILL HAD THE PROBLEM. *TR
IF I AM APPLYING THE BRAKES AND I GO OVER A ROUGH SPOT IN THE ROAD LIKE A BRIDGE SEAM OR SPEED BUMP, THE ANTILOCK BRAKE KICKS IN AND TAKES AWAY MY ABILITY TO CONTROL THE BRAKING SYSTEM ON THE CAR. BRAKES WERE RECENTLY REDONE, BUT THE SHOP CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. STILL OCCURRING, AND YESTERDAY I ALMOST REAR-ENDED SOMEONE DUE TO THE GAP IN BRAKE EFFECTIVENESS. SEEMS THAT IF I PUMP THEM, I CAN GET IT TO RELEASE AND BRAKES THEN ALLOW ME TO COMPLETE STOPPING SEQUENCE. HAVE ANOTHER APPT. TOMORROW, BUT AM CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY IN OUR FAMILY'S VEHICLE. MY 2001 SUBURBAN COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF AND THE STEERING STOPS WHEN I AM AT SPEEDS BELOW 10 MPH, IF I AM MAKING A TURN, BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, OR COME TO A STOP AT A STOP SIGN. THE INTENT WAS TO TREAT A GM RECALL NO. 05068 TO FIX ABS FRONT HUB SENSORS THAT WOULD CORRODE. SUPPOSEDLY THEY DID THIS AT 85,000 MILES IN 2005. IN 2009, I HAVE BEEN HAVING RECURRING ABS ISSUES AND THEY REPLACED THE INACCURATE SENSOR SIGNAL AT $675. RECURRING ISSUES THEY NOW NEED TO REPLACE THE PASSENGER SIDE SENSOR AT $675. THE ISSUE IS THAT THE SENSOR RECALL DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM, GM HAS STATED THE CUSTOMER MUST PAY FOR THE VERY ISSUE THE RECALL CALLED OUT, WHICH WAS CORRODED SENOR HUB ASSEMBLIES AND THE CUSTOMER MUST PAY. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, ON MY 2001 SUBURBAN AT 29,000 MILES. THIS WAS MY DADS VEHICLE AND WAS GARAGE KEPT AND DRIVEN ON TRIPS OR TO CHURCH IN RURAL TEXAS, WHICH IS WHY AFTER 8 YEARS IT ONLY HAD 29,000 MILES. I HAD IT SCANNED AT AUTO ZONE. A #1 CYLINDER MISFIRE WAS DETECTED. I MOVED THE COIL, SPARK PLUG, AND WIRE TO OTHER CYLINDERS TO ISOLATE THE PROBLEM. THE SCAN STILL DETECTED #1 CYLINDER MISFIRE EVEN AFTER DRIVING OVER 50 MILES. THE MISFIRE WAS NOT DETECTABLE BY THE WAY THE TRUCK WAS RUNNING. I WENT AHEAD AND REPLACED THE INJECTOR ON THAT CYLINDER JUST TO RULE IT OUT. ONCE AGAIN AFTER OVER 50 MILES OF DRIVING IT STILL SCANNED AS A #1 CYLINDER MISFIRE. I HAD PLANNED ON TAKING IT TO THE DEALER ON MONDAY, AUGUST 24, 2009. ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 22, 2009 MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER WERE ON THEIR WAY BACK TO THE HOUSE AND THE TRUCK DIED DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY. THEY WERE ABLE TO RESTART IT AND LIMP HOME. I FOUND NO COMPRESSION ON THE #1 CYLINDER AND TOOK OFF THE ROCKER ARM COVER TO FIND A BROKEN SPRING ON THE EXHAUST VALVE. HAD IT ONLY BEEN 3 YEARS OLD IT WOULD HAVE BEEN UNDER WARRANTY. THIS SEEMS TO BE A BAD SPRING BAD LUCK STORY. I WAS CURIOUS TO KNOW IF OTHERS ENCOUNTERED THE SAME PROBLEM OR DID THE BLACK CLOUD JUST DWELL OVER ME. SINCE I CAN REPAIR IT MYSELF I AM. THIS PROBLEM MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED TO OTHERS WITHOUT THEIR KNOWLEDGE SINCE THEY HAD IT REPAIRED BY THE DEALER. THE COST TO ME FOR PARTS IS ABOUT $350. THE GREATEST COST WAS GASKETS. REPAIR AT A DEALER WOULD BE BETWEEN $1500 AND $5000 I'M SURE (THERE WAS A BENT VALVE I REPLACED, AND A MARK ON THE PISTON I AM LEAVING ALONE, I'M NOT SURE THEY WOULD REPAIR JUST WHAT WAS NEEDED OR GO FURTHER). BEGINNING IN AUGUST 2009 MY 01 CHEVY SUBURBAN WOULD STALL WHILE I WAS DRIVING. AFTER THE FIRST TIME, A NEW BATTERY WAS INSTALLED. THIS HAPPENED 2 MORE TIMES FROM MID AUGUST 09 TO 9/15/09 AT WHICH TIME WE BROUGHT THE TRUCK IN FOR SERVICE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND WE BROUGHT THE TRUCK HOME. ABOUT A WEEK LATER, IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND THEN 3 MORE TIMES BETWEEN 9/15 AND 10/15/09. DURING THIS PERIOD WE FOUND A RECALL NOTICE (GM RECALL NO. 06083) FOR A CRANKSHAFT SENSOR COVERING 2001 SUBURBANS, BUT NOT MY PARTICULAR VEHICLE. THE RECALL DETAILED THE EXACT PROBLEM I WAS HAVING. THE TRUCK WAS BROUGHT INTO THE DEALER ON 10/15/09 AND I INSISTED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR BE REPLACED. TO DATE, THERE HAVE BEEN NO FURTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE AND I BELIEVE THAT THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WAS THE CAUSE OF THE STALLING. *TR
