TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS DISABLED AND THE ODOR OF FUEL WAS PRESENT. ALSO, THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE DISPLAYED INACCURATE FUEL LEVELS WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE AND THE SERVICE ENGINE SENSOR LIGHT HAD ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V155000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 260,000.
I HAVE OWNED MY 2001 CHEVY SUBURBAN SINCE JANUARY OF 2008. I HAVE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP 3 TIMES AND TODAY WILL BE MY 4TH. I HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ON THE SAME PART OVER AND OVER. THE LAST TIME IT WAS REPLACED MY MECHANIC ADVISED US TO KEEP AT LEAST 1/4 TANK OF GAS IN THE TANK WHICH I HAVE TRIED TO DO. BUT EVEN DOING THIS THE FUEL PUMP SEEMS TO GO ABOUT EVERY 15 MONTHS, JUST OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY. ITS RIDICULOUS, THERE IS NO WAY I SHOULD BE REPLACING FUEL PUMPS AT THIS RATE. *TR
SINCE MY LAST MAJOR REPAIR WHICH WAS JULY 2010 WHEN MY RADIATOR AND TIMING BELT HAD MALFUNCTION, WHICH I PAID $653.34 FOR REPAIRS, THE SURBURBAN BEGAN TO STALL AFTER MY LAST OIL CHANGE AT THE DEALERSHIP WHICH WAS 10/04/2011. THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL EACH TIME THE IGNITION KEY WAS TURNED, THEN IT WOULD STALL COMPLETELY AFTER A COUPLE OF TRIES. NOW, THE 2001 SUBURBAN 1500 VEHICLE OF MINE WOULD HAVE A FUEL LEAKAGE AND THE ENGINE STALLS WITH NO RESTART. I TOLD THE DEALERSHIP AFTER MY OIL CHANGE THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED RIGHT AS WE WERE LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP, BUT MY HUSBAND AND I WERE TOLD IT WAS DUE TO THE RECENT OIL CHANGE. NOW THE PROBLEM STILL EXIST WITH NO RESTART AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID TO BRING IT BACK WITH A $90 FEE TO EXAMINE THE VEHICLE WHICH THEY BELIEVE ITS THE FUEL PUMP. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD'VE BEEN OBSERVED THE DAY OF THE OIL CHANGE WHEN WE INITIALLY OBSERVE THE PROBLEM. IT SEEMS EACH TIME WE HAVE THE VEHICLE OIL CHANGE A PROBLEM OCCUR THE SAME DAY, INWHICH ITS COSTLY TO US. THIS PROBLEM CONTINUES TO EXIST NOW WITH NO START AND THE DEALERSHIP CHARGES US EACH TIME AFTER THE OIL CHANGE TO DETERMINE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS WHICH AS PREVIOUSLY STATED, OCCURS AFTER EACH TIMELY OIL CHANGE. *TR

FIRST INCIDENT: VEH. WOULD CRANK BUT NOT START. TURNED OUT TO BE FUEL DELIVERY FUSE. REPLACED, AND RAN FINE FOR SEVERAL WEEKS. SECOND INCIDENT: DRIVING AT APPROX. 55 MPH, VEHICLE LOST POWER, STARTED SPUTTERING AS IF OUT OF GAS ALTHOUGH IT WAS 1/4 FULL. UNABLE TO EXCEED 25 MPH DUE TO LITTLE/NO POWER. WAS TOWED TO AUTOPARTS STORE, CLEARED CODES, VEH RAN FINE FOR ABOUT 2 DAYS, THEN LOST POWER. TOWED HOME. LOOKED UP INFO ON INTERNET, FOUND RECALLS FOR FUEL PUMP. CALLED LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP, INQUIRED ABOUT RECALL, WAS TOLD THAT RECALL WAS ONLY ON HALF-TON SUBURBANS AND SINCE MINE IS 3/4 TON, IT WAS NOT COVERED BY RECALL. I REPLACED FUEL MODULE MYSELF AND DISCOVERED THE COVERING OF THE WIRES INSIDE THE FUEL MODULE ASSEMBLY HAD MELTED, ALLOWING THE BARE WIRES TO RUB AGAINST EACH OTHER, SHORTING OUT THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM (WHICH LIKELY CAUSED THE BLOWN FUSE TO BEGIN WITH). I AM VERY UPSET THAT MY SUBURBAN IS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL, EVEN THOUGH IT IS VIRTUALLY THE SAME SYSTEM AS WHAT IS IN THE THE 1/2 TON SUBURBANS, AND THE SAME PROBLEM EXISTS (AS EVIDENCED BY NOT ONLY MY OWN EXPERIENCE, BUT MANY OTHERS' EXPERIENCES AS WELL). I AM EXTREMELY DISTURBED THAT UNDER THE RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES, FUEL VAPORS, PLUS SPARK OF BARE WIRES TOUCHING, COULD IGNITE, CAUSING FIRE AND/OR EXPLOSION. POSSIBLY WITH MY FAMILY OF SIX IN THE VEHICLE.

THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WERE NOT ENOUGH COMPLAINTS TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR HIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND THE FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 88,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500. IN AUGUST OF 2004, AT 99,551 MILES, THE ENGINE STALLED WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH. THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF SUDDENLY AND WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE CONTACT PAID FOR THE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL FILTER TO BE REPLACED. IN JULY OF 2008, THE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL FILTER WERE REPLACED FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE FAILURE INVOLVED TWO DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMPS THAT WERE PLACED ON THE VEHICLE. THE FIRST WAS REPLACED BY A SECOND DEFECTIVE PUMP. AFTER THE SECOND REPLACEMENT, THE FUEL PUMP FAILED AGAIN AND THE SHOP REIMBURSED THE CONTACT. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT ASSIST. THE CONTACT DECIDED TO PURCHASE A FOURTH FUEL PUMP THAT WAS INSTALLED BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP ON JULY 1, 2008. THERE HAD BEEN NO OTHER FAILURES BECAUSE THE VEHICLE CANNOT HAVE LESS THAN A QUARTER OF A TANK OF FUEL. OTHERWISE, THERE WILL BE FAILURES WITH THE ENGINE CRANKING AND STALLING DUE TO THE PUMP LOSING PRESSURE FROM THE LACK OF FUEL CIRCULATION. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 188,000.

I HAVE A 2001 CHEVY SUBURBAN. IN REGARDS TO GM RECALL 05027, MY VEHICLE IS A 2500 SERIES. I EXPERIENCED A FUEL TANK LEAK. AFTER DEALER REMOVED TANK THEY FOUND OVER HEATED WIRING IN THE FUEL PUMP MODULE. I APPEARED TO BE THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE RECALL, HOWEVER THEY SAID THE RECALL ONLY COVERED THE 1500 SERIES. I PHONED GM AND THEY ARE LOOKING INTO IT. IT DIDN'T SOUND PROMISING. I HOPE GM IS AWARE THE PROBLEM EXISTS IN THE 2500. I FELT FORTUNATE TO HAVE AVOIDED A FIRE AS THE LEAK WAS SEVERE IF TANK WAS OVER 3/4 FULL. THE FUEL GAUGE WAS ALSO INACCURATE. PLEASE FORWARD THIS INFORMATION ALONG. *TR

I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW IN 2001. ON JULY 20, 2007 ON AN OUT OF TOWN FAMILY/WORK TRIP, I REFILLED THE FUEL TANK AND TRAVELED ANOTHER 88 MILES TO MY FINAL DESTINATION, UPON ARRIVAL I SMELLED GAS, BUT SAW NO PROBLEMS. THE NEXT MORNING I WAS SCHEDULED TO ATTEND AND EVENT AND WENT OUT TO START THE TRUCK AND FOUND A HOLE IN THE ASPHALT DRIVEWAY, APPROXIMATELY 3 FEET IN DIAMETER, AND DISCOVERED FUEL LEAKING FROM THE MIDDLE OF MY TRUCK. I REMOVED THE GAS TANK PROTECTIVE COVER AND FUEL SPILLED EVERYWHERE. I FOUND A LOCAL MECHANIC THAT TRAVELED TO MY LOCATION, HE AND 2 OTHERS WORKED ALL DAY AND FOUND THAT THE LOCK RING THAT HOLDS THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY TO THE TANK WAS ONLY LIGHTLY CONNECTED. REPAIRS WERE MADE AND I TRAVELED BACK HOME. 8/13/07 MY WIFE FILLED THE TANK 3/4'S FULL AND THE TANK LEAKED FUEL ALL OVER AGAIN. THE FUEL IS LEAKING FROM THE TANK WHERE THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY IS CONNECTED. *JB

GM CURRENTLY HAS A RECALL FOR WIRING ON THE FUEL SYSTEM FOR 2001 SUBURBANS. MY FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED RECENTLY DUE TO THIS SAME ISSUE. THE VIN NUMBER OF MY SUBURBAN WAS NOT COVERED, HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM WAS THAT AS DESCRIBED BY THE RECALL NOTICE. THE REPAIR SHOP CONTACTED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, AND THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR AS NOT AN APPROVE RECALL VIN FOR MY SUBURBAN. BASED ON WHAT IS PUBLISHED, THIS REPAIR APPEAR TO BE THE SAME THING. WOULD LIKE REIMBURSEMENT FOR THIS ITEM. *JB
