The contact owned a 2016 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while driving 30-35 MPH, the vehicle crashed into a concrete pole, and the front end of the vehicle was significantly damaged. The contact stated that the pole was 12-18 inches into the hood, and 1.5 ft. up into the engine bay. The concrete pole was damaged. The air bags and the seat belt pretensioners failed to deploy. Several warning lights, including the check engine, the ABS, the TPMS, the air bag, the StabiliTrak, and the traction control warning lights, were illuminated after the crash. The contact noticed he had sustained bumps on the head and neck from hitting the steering wheel, but did not feel sore at the time. The contact woke up dizzy the next day and sought medical assistance. The contact underwent X-rays and was informed that he had also sustained torn chest muscles. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot. The insurance company towed the vehicle to another lot the following day, and the vehicle was totaled. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V651000(Air Bags, Seat Belts), which was previously performed on the vehicle. Additionally, the contact stated that the manufacturer had also issued NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V437000(Air Bags, Seat Belts) for vehicles repaired under the previous recall, and the recall information stated that the affected vehicles may not have received the complete software update necessary to remedy the recall condition. However, the second recall had not been performed on the vehicle. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed, but the case manager was unreachable. The failure mileage was 192,252.
I have read reports online of the two thousand sixteen chevy suburban turning off completely while driving.I have experienced this not once not twice. But three times now, with my chevy, suburban. This is a severe safety issue and can lead to death or major financial loss
Just purchased this vehicle used from a business in Moyock, NC. The mileage at purchase was 92,860. We checked Carfax and it showed two previous owners and had a steady maintenance history. On the way home (2 hour drive) and after the vehicle had warmed up it started showing signs of transmission problems. This was not noticeable on the test drive. The RPMs skyrocketed, the car went into neutral, once we got it back into gear it would hardly accelerate. It was a long long drive home! We took it to our local mechanic and must replace the transmission at a cost of $7,000. We will not use the manufacturer's transmission product as a replacement after reading all the complaints that are so similar to ours. Definitely not what we were expecting to have to do within a week of the purchase. There could have been injuries if my wife had not been following me and knew something was wrong when the vehicle slowed down significantly. No one was injured, except for our pride and wallet.
My 2016 transmission was jerking, shuddering, vibrating, ruff shifting and stopped moving in traffic. My safety was at risk, I turned off a major boulevard onto a neighborhood street, my SUV stopped shifting and stopped, I had to contact my son to come to help to push by hands out of traffic.
While driving home vehicle slid on black ice and spun out. While spinning curtain airbags and driver seat deployed and battery died. Sis not hit anything
Increased brake pedal effort to the point of difficulty to stop or control brake pressure at low speeds. This seems like the same issue reported in Safety Recall #N192268499-01, but my VIN is outside the covered range. Is the effected range in the recall correct? This has happened intermittently since we purchased the vehicle private party in 2022 with 115.5k miles on it, but is getting worse.
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was a rattling sound coming from the rear of the driver’s door. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the contact discovered that the exterior trim on the front driver’s door had started to detach and was loose. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the exterior trim on the front driver’s door had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 121,000.
Transmission and Engine Failed. Please inspect. I've had several shops and mechanics inspect. I was towing both times and could have been seriously injured when my transmission went out. Then after that was resolved my engine went out. No symptoms or warnings before incidents occurred.
Gas leak on top of tank from fuel line strong gas odor in vehicle
When driving at low speeds the brakes do not work. The vehicle will stop, but it is very hard to get it to stop. You must push the brake pedal all the way to the floor to get the brakes to work. This does not happen all time it will just happen out of no were, this can be scaring. I looked up to see if our vehicle has any current recalls, which it does not. But on 9/19/2019 we had our vehicle in the shop and they did do a recall at this time. It was Increased Brake Pedal Effort. NHTSA Campaign # 19V645000 and this sounds like exactly what was happening. This was done when our vehicle had 60,000 miles on it and at the time it was having no symptoms. We had never had any brake issues at this time. Now our vehicle is having these issues and I feel that this safety issue should be another recall on our vehicle and should be covered and fixed as it sounds like the same issue. Please let me know what can be done about this.
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while driving at approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle brakes independently activated. The contact stated there were no warning lights illuminated. The contact pulled off the highway and stopped the vehicle. The vehicle was turned off and restarted and regained braking functionality. The failure was intermittent but occurred at various speeds. The failure occurred mostly while driving up an incline and depressing the accelerator pedal and the independent braking failure would occur. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that prior to the failures the vehicle had been taken to a dealer to be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 175,000.
The transmission prematurely had to be replaced. The vehicle exhibited hesitation and thumping when changing from one gear to the next causing acceleration issues. The transmission exhibited the issue before 100,000 miles. The dealership changed the transmission at a cost to me over $6,000
The transmission stopped working it's wouldn't go we had kids in the car the car is in the shop and needs a transmission the engine light also came on
While driving on the interstate in Nevada (speed limit of 80MPH) I had my 2016 Suburban throw a rod through the engine block as I was in the left lane passing a Uhual on an incline. The vehicle made a loud bang, lost all engine power and protruded smoke so thick I could not see cars behind me. I was thankfully able to coast to side of the road without being hit. I then exited vehicle and there was a fire in the engine bay which I put out with a gallon of water in the trunk. My mechanic confirmed the thrown rod and hole in the block and that the car needs a new engine now. I had a CEL a few minutes prior to throwing the rod for an engine knock.
Loss of steering, jerks the week right out of your hand and then you are unable to turn the wheel. Engine stalls and you have to try to coast to the side of the road, put in park and try to restart the vehicle. Service Stabilitrak warning appears on display, Alarm Sounds, Radio beeps and display goes blank, navigation compass does not work. There is a current Technical Service Bulletin for these issues: #18-NA-161, document ID 5075841 that lists the years from 2014 to 2020. There were Product Safety Recalls issued: 17276 Loss of Steering Assist, Reference Number:N172085440 for vehicles listed in this TSB for 2014 and 2015 but no Recalls for later vehicles with the same problems.
Various times while I was driving my 5 kids have I had an issue with the brakes and having to over compensate to pump brakes to get them to stop in time or at all. Very scary
I was in the middle of a turn and the power steering went completely out
The transmission shift solenoid stopped working going down the road which caused the vehicle to stall. Going from 65mph to dying without any warning signs no check engine no issues driving before. Check engin came on after the fact took it to a parts store to run the code came back with shift solenoid. More then likely need a new transmission for $6k.
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Suburban LTZ. The contact stated that while driving on a neighborhood street at 25 MPH, the steering wheel became increasingly stiff. She was able to continue driving until reaching her residence, where she parked the vehicle and attempted to restart it. Upon restarting, a message appeared on the instrument panel that read, "Service Power Steering." The local dealer was not contacted, so the vehicle was not diagnosed, and the manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while approaching a stop sign and driving at 5 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond. The brake service warning light illuminated after the failure. The contact was able to pull to the side, turn off the vehicle, wait a moment, and restart. The failure persisted and progressively worsened. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.
Incident Report Vehicle Information: Year: 2016 Make: Chevrolet Model: Suburban I am experiencing a recurring issue with my 2016 Chevrolet Suburban involving the steering column lock module and the theft deterrent system. The truck intermittently fails to start, displaying a "Theft Deterrent" warning message on the dashboard and lighting get dim on the display. On some occasions, after waiting approximately 10 minutes, the vehicle starts, but other times it does not. Additionally, there are instances when the truck starts but cannot be shifted into gear. To address the problem, I have attempted to disconnect and reconnect the battery to reset the system, but this has not resolved the issue. The problem appears randomly and unpredictably, creating significant inconvenience and safety concerns, particularly in situations where I am stranded or unable to move the vehicle. Impact on Safety: This issue poses a risk to my safety and the safety of others. The inability to reliably start or move the vehicle could lead to dangerous situations, especially in emergencies or high-traffic areas. It is also concerning that the theft deterrent system may be malfunctioning, potentially leaving the vehicle vulnerable to unauthorized access. Resolution Attempts: Despite attempting to reset the system by disconnecting the battery, the issue persists. Online forums and anecdotal evidence suggest that this may be a common problem with the steering column lock module or related systems in this model. Request for Action: I urge the NHTSA to investigate this issue as it appears to affect multiple owners of similar vehicles. A thorough review and possible recall or service bulletin could ensure the safety and reliability of affected vehicles.
On October 23, 2024, my 2016 Chevrolet Suburban was stopped in a line of traffic on a downhill. As traffic began to move forward, the brakes failed to hold, despite pressure on the brake pedal. This resulted in a low-speed collision with the vehicle in front, which then impacted another vehicle. Component/System: The braking system failed to engage despite pressure on the brake pedal. The vehicle is a total loss; however, documentation of the damage is available through my insurance company, New Jersey Manufacturers, claim number 2024-884575, and the police report from the accident scene. Safety Risk: This brake failure posed a significant safety risk to my family (who were occupants), and other drivers. The collision caused substantial vehicle damage. Confirmation: The vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer or independent service center due to it being a total loss. It has been inspected by my insurance company. Inspection: The vehicle has been inspected by police at the accident scene and by my insurance company. Warnings: There were no prior warning lamps, messages, or symptoms of brake problems. The vehicle has been consistently maintained by All American Chevrolet with all recommended services performed. This incident raises serious concerns about the vehicle's braking system integrity, especially given its consistent professional maintenance. I request an investigation into this matter.
When driving the vehicle and when turning the steering wheel in reverse or pulling forward while turning the steering wheel. The dashboard will display a stability warning and the vehicle turns off and the steering wheel locks. It has happened two times in the last year and twice in 2023
I had just slowed down to pull into work, stepped on the gas and the suburban started chugging. After pulling into a parking space I could no longer more forward in Drive. After shifting through all the gears, I no longer had reverse, and to move my vehicle off to the side for the tow company, I had to put it in Nuetral to go forward. I had no warning lights on the dash, no errors when a mechanic scanned it. It obviously needs a new 6L80 transmission, which I see a similar class action suit for. The only blessing is that, by chance, my kids were not in our family vehicle when the tranmission broke. I had driven them to and from school just hours earlier. And that I made it safely to work, not broken down on the side of any busy roads.
Vehicle is reporting code for bad torque converter at 95,388 miles. Mechanic estimates repair is $5318 and car jumps at acceleration and shudders at lower speeds.
I replaced the shocks in Oct 2022 and paid for an alignment and now just over 2 years later the dealer said they needed replacing again. This front end has had constant problems, but now I see there was a recall on the 2016 Suburbans, but it is not listed under my VIN. I believe if they have had problems, possibly at another manufacturing, it should be considered that this is the problem. I have now paid for the repair of the upper control arm and both front shocks and a wheel alignment again. I paid more than double to have it repaired at the dealer because I believe my vehicle's VIN should be listed under NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID: 16V256000; REPORT DATE: APR 28, 2016.
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated upon depression of the accelerator pedal. The check engine warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle had stalled while driving on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that four fuel injectors were faulty and needed to be replaced. The contact was provided an estimate for the repair and was informed that there was a special coverage program related to the failure. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not covered under the special coverage program. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000.
Had the transmission replaced after 100,000 miles. Not even a year later the whole engine blew. With zero warnings lights or signs the engine gave 5 gallons of gas was in the engine along with other issues. We replace the engine and everything starts falling apart. Another $1,400 later it’s still throwing codes which come to find out the computer is now bad. Less the 300 miles have been put on the engine since it was replaced. Constant cam shaft sensors are going off causing the car to not run. $10,000 was put into it to have a running car and huge mechanical issues continue to happen with maybe 150,000 miles. Maintenance was done regularly. Zero issues prior to the transmission which thankfully was covered under warranty.
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 MPH, the vehicle started driving rough and vibrating abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the lifters in the engine were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but shortly after retrieving the vehicle, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the lifters had failed again and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 86,243.
I see that some 2016 Chevy Suburban's have recalls on this with brake issues. I checked to see if ours had a recall and it doesn't but I believe that it should as we have a serious safety issue with ours. We have had a couple of mechanics look over our brakes and lines and none can seem to find anything wrong, but it is very intermittent and we never know when the issue will start. Sometimes the Service Brake Assist light will flash on, but other times it will not. Basically we will be driving and sometimes it is very hard to get it to stop, some times the brake won't push down at all and sometimes it will push all the way to the floor. It seems like it will happen after the car has been driven over an hour, but sometimes not. It has happened first thing in the morning, but not very often. When you drive it in traffic or go to park it, it has been vary scary as it sometimes is very hard to get stopped before hitting something in front of you. It will make a ABS sound sometimes, but the only light that has ever come on is the Service Brake Assist..... I strongly believe this sounds similar to the recalls in this Vehicles history and believe that ours should have this recall. An this happens pretty often, but not all the time..... This had happened sometime in 2023, but it happens more often now. Thanks for any information, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I haven’t had this vehicle but for two years. Transmission just went out. 2016 Chevy Suburban 121k miles. Our 2005 GMC Yukon outlasted a 2016 Suburban.
There are 2 components of the vehicle that I believe are malfunctioning. The first component would be the brake system. At first the problem presented itself when going down a parking garage it was approximately 5 miles an hour while applying the brake and the brake suddenly got stuck and really sticky, I had to apply extreme pressure to the brake to get the vehicle to stop completely. It was only after I put the vehicle in park, turned it off, removed the keys from the ignition, open the doors, and then restarted the car afterwards where the brakes would become unstuck. Since that first incident in summer of 2024, there has been other similar incidents when I am breaking in a parking lot at lower speeds, on side streets at lower speeds, or any other circumstance where I would be applying the brake at lower speeds. The brakes would get very sticky hard to press and would not come to a complete stop unless using extreme force. This is a very scary incident because if there was a vehicle a pedestrian and we weren't able to stop the vehicle then we would have crashed and potentially hurt someone. We brought this up to our mechanic and he was not able to reproduce the issue. The engine light does not turn on for this issue and we are not able to produce any engine light codes for the braking issue. This issue continues to happen until this day and it is scary when it does happen. The second component that we believe is malfunctioning has to do with the suspension system, the air ride system. We have taken this problem to our mechanic since 2019, 2020. They've been able to temporarily repair the issue but after some time the part breaks down and we believe that this is a manufacturing issue. There is a warning lamp that appears. What happens is there is air constantly being pumped into the suspension and is drawing electricity from the battery and ultimately affecting other parts of the electronic components.
The breaks get hard and stop working
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Suburban LTZ. The contact stated that while driving on a neighborhood street at 25 MPH her transmission slipped into neutral. No warning lights were illuminated, and the contact proceeded to bring her vehicle to a complete stop, put the transmission into park, attempted to get into drive again however the vehicle remained in neutral and the RPM's shot up significantly. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed and the contact was advised that the transmission had failed and that it would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while reversing at approximately 2 MPH and attempting to depress the brake pedal, the brake pedal was very difficult to depress. The contact stated that extra effort was needed to depress the brake pedal before the vehicle stopped. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that he shifted into park(P) and turned off and restarted the vehicle and normal brake functionality was restored. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The failure mileage was 109,260.
We purchased this vehicle from a local dealership (2/5/2024) and 25 days after purchasing it (3/1/2024) we had to have it towed as the torque converter and transmission went out and we could no longer drive it. This was quite costly at $6600.00.
While turning at low speed steering went out engine shut off dash gauges, radio, hvac went off engine restarted dash information stated service trailer brake system and service stability system Turned wheel again same thing did this 2 more times then had to put vehicle in natural and restart manually This also has happened twice in the past week
From 2015-2024 suburbans have transmission and engine failures or issues. I’ve been told due to plastic parts in the transmission that is the big problem. My transmission has started messing up and I have not been the only one who has had issues. Chevrolet should be made to recall Suburbans and Tahoes 2015-2024 to place new engines and transmission when issues start for free. It is awful that it has not been made aware to the nhtsa to push this to happen sooner. Especially when the vehicle pulls no codes or lights or even gives you a warning before complete failure happens. People can get serious injured or killed if complete failure happened on a major highway or interstate.
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while driving slower speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. Due to the failure, the vehicle was coasted to a stop before being restarted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The mechanic discovered high resistance in the negative ground battery cable. The contact was informed that the cable needed to be replaced. Upon investigation, the contact discovered Technical Service Bulletin: 18-na-161 and linked the TSB to the failure. The manufacturer and the dealer were notified of the failure and the TSB. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.
I keep getting a brake assist message on my dash. If I am braking at a slow speed, the brakes get so hard to press, and eventually will not let me stop unless I press the brake as hard as I can to the floor. An example, when I am dropping up and picking up my children from school, the brake will vibrate and gets harder to press with each time. With the stop and go in the school line by the time I get to the front to pick up my child it's almost impossible to stop. I have almost rear ended several vehicles going 2 mph because my brakes won't work. Same with pulling and parking into a parking lot space. I am reading there is a recall on some models but my VIN didn't pull up an active recall.
Passenger seat belt won't click locked.
Transmisión
When ignition Suv, a gas leak starts coming out of the bottom of the gas tank Strong smell of gas as well. Large amount of gas is seen. Lose of power when driving. Fuel feed hose is seems to be the problem. This may cause a fire or explosion. Putting in risk my family.
While driving at low speed, the brakes did not engage while being pressed with much force.
While driving the vehicle on a freeway ramp at speed A warning light came on that said service Trailer breaking And the power steering turned off. Causing the vehicle to be very difficult to control at highway speed. Having a secondary auxiliary system turn off Your power steering at speed Is a serious safety hazard and design issue.
Transmission winding and jerking. Constant issue on these trucks with no known resolution as to why the issues start so early.
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle shuddered and stalled. Additionally, the contact was unable to shift the gear shifter into reverse(R) or drive(D). No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the residence, and the contact stated that an abnormal noise was heard when she attempted to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was not yet taken to an independent mechanic or local dealer for diagnosis or repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 114,000.
Brakes become really hard.
I purchased my 2016 Chevrolet Suburban from Jupiter Chevrolet on March 18,2021 at that time the car had 74,931 miles on it after driving off it home 35 min away from the car lot I noticed the RPMS would go up on their own I called and asked what the cause of it and they would be said that it was normal because these new vehicle have the downgrade break. I drove it off and on since then this is a vehicle used for when we have a family trip or just store runs. My truck currently has 107,750 miles on it, that is a total of 32,819 miles put on this truck since 2021. On January 28,2023 as I was driving on the highway to the store that is three miles down the road the truck went into limp mode all the sudden Iwas almost hit by an 18-wheeler because it suddenly owed down and would not go over 20 mph. My daughter who is 5 years old was in the car with me at the time. I was able to turn around and slowly get it back home since I was not far, when I got home the check engine light came on I had my neighbor read the code and it said P0700 and P0796 they said to change the fluid and it would probably fix it so I took it to have the transmission oil changed and new filter put in and they told me then that I will need a new transmission because of all of the metal shavings that was in the oil and filter and on the magnet in the oil pan. There is no recall on this problem, I do not have that many miles on my car and have not driven that many miles to be having a transmission problem on my vehicle this is something out see on vehicles with 300k. miles on them. I must have my vehicle and right now I am not able to drive it at all, but I am still having to make the payments on a vehicle I am not able to drive.
