NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
I have 2 GM vehicles that the Airbag light came on within 3 days of each other and neither has had any such issue ever. [XXX] 2010 Chevy Tahoe LTZ with 285,000 miles [XXX] 2011 Chevy Silverado LS with only 88,500 miles Local dealership wants $180.00 each just to check out the issue I just think this is very coincidental. 2nd row seat doesnt latch sometimes or gets stuck in the down position sparking a concern for my child’s safety…I would like for this to be a goodwill safety bulletin or recall if at all possible! Thank you
I wanted to express a concern regarding my vehicle. There are several wires exposed on my dashboard where multiple cracks have developed over time. I have been hesitant to bring the vehicle in for the airbag recall replacement because I am concerned that the existing damage to the dashboard could worsen during the repair process. My primary worry is that additional cracking could expose more wiring to heat, which may increase the risk of electrical issues, wire corrosion, or even a potential fire hazard. I would appreciate any guidance on how this situation could be addressed safely while completing the necessary recall work. Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your advice on the best next steps.
The contact owned a 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact received notifications and cards of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V053000 (Air Bags) and would like to be removed from the recall distribution list because the vehicle was totaled. The dealer was contacted. The manufacturer was not contacted.
We purchased a 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe from a dealership in Wisconsin in 2022. In 2023, the vehicle’s transmission failed completely at only 128,000 miles. After researching the issue, I discovered that the 6L80E transmission installed in this model year has a long history of mechanical failures, particularly involving the torque converter and internal clutch packs. Numerous consumer complaints report identical failures, and GM has issued multiple service bulletins acknowledging related issues but has not initiated a recall. The repair shop diagnosed the problem as a failed torque converter and damaged internal clutch packs. There were no warning signs, one day the transmission functioned normally, and the next day it failed completely. This failure caused significant financial hardship. I paid over $5,000 for a full transmission rebuild using my credit card, resulting in ongoing interest charges and credit impact. I had to perform balance transfers to manage the debt and ease the financial burden. Given the widespread nature of this issue and GM’s acknowledgment of mechanical defects in the 6L80E transmission, I am requesting that GM reimburse repair costs and that regulators investigate the 6L80E’s reliability and safety to determine whether a recall or class action remedy is warranted.

Dash board is cracking around passanger side air bag and above instrument panel. Could shatter into pieces upon air bag deployment sending shards of dashboard flying. Could lacerate air bags. GM is aware of the problem but failed to recall vehicles from 2007 to 2013 Silverado, Tahoe, and Suburban
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at slow speeds into a parking area, the passenger's side of the vehicle collapsed, rendering the vehicle inoperable. The contact stated that shortly afterwards, Roadside Assistance arrived to tow the vehicle and observed that the frame had split down the center. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 240,000. The VIN was not available.
I got into a bad accident 3 weeks ago. I flipped 4 times and not one air bag deployed. I suffer some injuries.
I contacted Don Mealey Chevrolet in Clairmont Fl and was informed by them they can do air bag recall. But I must sign a waver if the dash crackes in the process they are not responsible for damages and I will have to pay for dash if I want it fixed. Why would I be responsible if this is a recall.I contacted Chevrolet and was informed its a case by case thing and they will not guarantee dash being fixed. Why would I want to chance this.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, he smelled an abnormal gasoline odor inside the vehicle. After a visual inspection of the vehicle, the contact observed an excessive fuel leak around the fuel tank. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 142,000.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V050000 (Air Bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
To Whom It May Concern, I have a 2010 Tahoe LTZ which has a cracked dashboard. I have called around to get this fixed and this is very expensive at the dealership for over $1500. I had checked around and found out that this is a common issue with certain types of GM vehicles and mine is on the list. I will like for this to be replaced by GM because because this is truly a safety issue because the cracks are on the driver side near the airbags. Thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Dash is cracked and showing engine parts

Driver side high beam light went out so bulb was changed. A couple weeks later light went back out again. Thought it was a defect bulb purchased another and changed it again. Now it goes in and out. The driver window will not let down when the high beam light is working.
LIFTERS COLLAPSED, MOTOR BLEW ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60MPH CAUSING LARGE ACCIDENT ON SHOULDER
The vehicle randomly loses or gains power while driving. All of the auto locks go up and down, while the cluster goes in and out with very high rpms and then completely loses power in the middle of the road. Or this happens and the steering gets very tough. It is very dangerous because there are times where it happens on the highway while doing up to 80mph. It also happens when sitting at line to pick up my child in pre-k. If it were to jump and the brakes weren’t hit fast enough it could really cause a horrible and possibly deadly situation. I have done everything that I can on my end with this truck. I recently replaced the battery and replaced the master fuse since reading it was the cause. That lasted for a week. I have read hundreds of owners with the same problems that have went to private owned mechanic shops along with gm certified mechanic shops. They have yet to find an answer to this possibly deadly malfunction. There are posts and websites all over sharing other owners with the same problems and all of their stories end the same. That gm along with any mechanic used has yet to find any results to this. I noticed that the 2015 model has a recall for this problem but doesn’t describe what is being done to fix the actual problem. It has the same engine and setup as far as I can see so I wonder why there isn’t a recall for the 2010. I have two school age children that have to be brought to and picked up from school daily. If you look up this problem online you will find endless stories and questions about the issue at hand. Most people end up spending thousands of dollars trying to fix the problem on new batteries, cables, starters, etc. However, they all end up with the problem being unresolved with all of that unnecessary debt. This is a very serious manner and I feel that it’s only a matter of time before lives are lost over this. I thank you for the opportunity to be heard and pray that a resolution comes sooner than later.
DASHBOARD CRACKED IN SEVERAL PLACES.
DASHBOARD GOT 2 BIG CRACKS AND I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY TAHOE. IT HAS BEEN GARAGE KEPT AT HOME AND WORK. VERY CHEAP MADE DASHBOARD. *TR
1. I CAME OUT TO GO TO WORK AND THE DASH BOARD HAD CRACKED AND IT IS PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE. THE CRACK IS ABOVE THE SPEEDOMETER AND ON THE PASSENGER SIDE NEAR THE AIR BAG. 2. WATER IS LEAKING IN THE PASSENGER HEAD BOARD CAUSING WATER TO LEAK IN THE SEAT BELT AND WET IT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET TAHOE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V381000 (AIR BAGS) BUT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE CONTACTED OR MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

WHILE DRIVING IN TOWN OR HIGHWAY , DOOR LOCKS BEGAN POPPING UP AND DOWN, DASH GAUGES WERE GOING CRAZY AND CAR BEGAN TO BE LOSE TOTAL ELECTRICAL POWER. ENGINE CUT OUT AND DIED AND ALMOST REAR ENDED BY SEMI-TRUCK. THIS ISSUE HAS HAPPENED 20 PLUS TIMES OVER THE PAST 6 MONTHS AND SEVERAL TIMES TIMES THIS WEEK DRIVING IN TOWN AND ALSO ON INTERSTATE 44 IN MISSOURI. THE GM SERVICE TECHNICIAN DOES NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS OR THE CAUSE. THIS ISSUE IS HAPPENING COUNTRY WIDE TO OWNERS OF CHEVY TAHOE'S. THIS VEHICLE IS NOW TO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. MY TAHOE HAS 71,212 MILES ON IT. CAN YOU PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE?
THE PLASTIC DASH COVER IS CRACKED IN SEVERAL LOCATIONS. A SMALL CRACK LOCATED IN FRONT OF THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG COMPARTMENT AND NUMEROUS CRACKS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE DOMED AREA ABOVE THE CLUSTER OF GAUGES. THIS DOES CONCERN ME BECAUSE IF A FRONTAL ACCIDENT WERE TO OCCUR, I FEAR THE PLASTIC DASH WILL CERTAINLY CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE TO THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER. THIS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING AND I HEARD A LOUD POP.
ONE WEEK AFTER PURCHASING A 2010 CHEVY TAHOE I SAW WHAT LOOKED LIKE A SCRATCH ON THE DASH BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL. WHEN I LOOKED AT IT CLOSER THE DASH SCRATCH WAS ACTUALLY A CRACK. WHEN I TOUCHED IT THE DASH CRACKED BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL AND ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WHERE IT WAS NOT TOUCHED.DEALER TOLD ME TO BUY A DASH COVER. NOT RIGHT ANSWER AFTER GIVING HIM $20,000.00 A WEEK EARLIER. TOLD ME IT WAS FROM THE SUN. THE MATERIAL USED WAS OF VERY POOR QUALITY BECAUSE OF ALL THE COMPLAINTS. THEY COULD HAVE OFFERED TO INSTALL A DASH COVER AT THERE EXPENSE $100.00. VERY BAD DEALER CUSTOMER SUPPORT. WILL NEVER WALK IN THERE AGAIN FOR ANYTHING. THAT IS WHY I DO NOT LIKE CAR DEALERS. IT COULD HAVE BEEN A GOOD EXPERIENCE BUT THEY RUINED IT OVER A $100.00 PART. AND A KNOWN DEFECT. THIS HAPPENED WHILE CAR WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVE WAY.
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED IN THE FALL OF 2019 AT A USED CAR DEALERS LOT IN OREGON. IN THE SUMMER OF 2019 WE STARTED EXPERIENCING RANDOM NO START PROBLEMS. THE FIRST INCIDENCE WE THOUGHT IT WAS A FAULTY STARTER EVEN THOUGH WE COULD JUMP/SHORT IT ACROSS THE TERMINAL, AND START THE VEHICLE. AFTER REPLACING THE VEHICLES STARTER WITH A REMANUFACTURED NON GM STARTER, WE STARTED HAVING MORE NO START PROBLEMS. REMEDY WAS ARCING THE STARTER POSTS ACROSS ONE ANOTHER, AND THEN VEHICLE WOULD CRANK AND START. WE HAD THE VEHICLE INSPECTED BY A GM DEALER, OUR LOCAL MECHANIC, AND THEY STATED IT HAD TO BE "DEAD" IN ORDER TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THEN A WEEK LATER WE HAD THE CAR GO INTO "ANTI-THEFT MODE" WHILE DRIVING, AND THE SPEED AND TRANSMISSION SLOWED THE VEHICLE NEARLY TO A STOP ,- ALL THE LIGHTS STARTED BLINKING, DIC WARNING LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING CHECK STABILITY, CHECK BLIND SIDE, CHECK 4 WHEEL DR., ECT... FORTUNATELY I WAS NOT FAR FROM HOME AND PARKED THE CAR IN THE DRIVEWAY AND SHUT IT OFF. IMMEDIATELY I TRIED TO RE-START THE VEHICLE AND WE HAD A "NO-CRANK" ISSUE AGAIN. I CHECKED AND REPLACED ALL FUSES RELATING TO THE STATER EVEN THOUGH NOT BLOWN. WE THEN HAD IT TOWED TO OUR LOCAL MECHANIC WHO IS ASE CERTIFIED AND HE COMPLETELY DISMANTLED THE UNDER HOOD ELECTRONIC FUSE BLOCK, AND THE COMMUNICATION FUSE BLOCK UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE DASH AND TO NO AVAIL- FOUND NO WIRING OR FUSE PROBLEMS. HE DIAGNOSED OVER 400 CONNECTIONS, AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING CONTRIBUTING TO THE PROBLEMS. HE STATED AS SOON AS HE UNBOLTED THE UNDER HOOD FUSE BLOCK THE CAR STARTED, BUT HE CONTINUED THE DIAGNOSTICS AS STATED ABOVE. THERE IS A THIRD FUSE BLOCK UNDER THE DASH THAT SITS BESIDE THE COMMUNICATION BLOCK, AND HAS FUSES THAT WERE CHECKED AS WELL. DURING JULY, AUGUST, OCTOBER 2019, WE HAD NUMEROUS NO START/CRANK INSTANCES. REMEDY IS A LARGE SCREWDRIVER AND ARCING THE STARTER.
The dashboard has cracked and split around the passenger side airbag. The sharp edges of the plastic could be a hazard in an accident. The edges are very sharp.
I PURCHASED MY 2010 IN 2011 AND THE DASH CRACKED IN 2012. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALER TWICE AND CHEVY WILL STILL NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR ITS POOR QUALITY AND MANUFACTURING. A VEHICLE THAT IS ONLY TWO YEARS OLD AND HAD NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT SHOULD NOT HAVE COSMETIC DAMAGE. THIS IS DEFINITELY A MANUFACTURERS PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE REPLACED BY THE COMPANY. MY TRUCK WAS WORTH 48,000 AT THE TIME AND I SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR A REPAIR CAUSED BY POOR QUALITY OF THEIR MATERIALS. NOW MY VEHICLE IS 9 YEARS OLD AND THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED OUT OF NOWHERE WHEN MY SON WAS DRIVING.... THERE WAS NO WRECK OR IMPACT WITH ANYTHING AND THEY DEPLOYED. THE QUALITY USED BY CHEVY IS TERRIBLE AND I DO NOT PLAN ON PURCHASING ANYTHING ELSE FROM A COMPANY THAT SELLS OVER PRICED VEHICLES WITH CHEAP AND FAULTY PARTS THAT THEY DON'T WANT TO ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR.
DASHBOARD CRACKS OVER CLUSTER ALSO ON THE RIGHT SIDE BY THE AIR BAG. I'M CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY AS WELL AS OTHERS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET TAHOE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V381000 (AIR BAGS). THE PART FOR THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND STATED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
DASH BOARD CRACKING
THE CAR HAS STALLED ON THE FREEWAY AND/OR BUSY ROADS MULTIPLE TIMES. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS TIMING. *TR
THE FRONT DASH HAS CRACKED PRETTY SIGNIFICANTLY IN 2 PLACES. THIS OCCURRED FROM THE SUN WITH NO OTHER FACTORS COMING INTO PLAY. THE DRIVER SEAT FABRIC DOES NOT STAY ATTACHED UNDERNEATH THE DRIVER SEAT. APPEARS IT IS MISSING A CLIP OR A POOR DESIGN THAT DOES NOT SECURE LOWER FABRIC SECURE TO THE SEAT. THE STEERING WHEEL HAS A CLICKING NOISE WHEN I TURN THE WHEEL OVER. NOT SURE IF IT'S IN THE STEERING COLUMN ITSELF OR FROM ANOTHER PIECE/FABRICATION MALFUNCTION.
SUNROOF EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING. I WAS IN AN 45MPH AREA, COMING TO A RED LIGHT AT @30 MPH, JUST EXPLODED. NO AC OR HEAT ON, TEMP OUTSIDE WAS 73 DEGREES
REAR WINDOW GLASS IS NO LONGER STABLE IN THE TRACKS. WINDOWS COULD POSSIBLY FLY OUT OF VEHICLE. FMVSS 10
I WAS WASHING MY CAR AND CLEANING THE INTERIOR, THEN NOTICED MY DASH BOARD HAD A CRACK IN IT. IT HAS GROWN BIGGER SINCE INITIAL FINDING. THIS IS A FACTORY DEFECT.
DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, STABILITRAX OFF, SERVICE STABILITRAX, ENGINE POWER REDUCED LIGHTS CAME ON. ENGINE ALSO IDLED ERRATICALLY AND WOULD TRY TO JUMP THE CAR FORWARD WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO A STOP. COULD TURN OFF CAR FOR A FEW MINS AND IT WOULD RESET AND TURN BACK ON AND DRIVE NORMAL FOR A FEW MILES WITH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON, THEN DO IT AGAIN. USED HEET BECAUSE THOUGHT IT WAS BAD FUEL BUT CONTINUED DOING IT.
DASH HAS MULTIPLE CRACKS
VEHICLE LOSES POWER STEERING INTERMITTENTLY WHILE MAKING TURNS ON CITY STREETS
MY DASH STARTED CRACKING SMALL AT FIRST, BUMPS AND VIBRATIONS WOULD INCREASE THE LENGTH AND SEVERITY OF THE CRACKS, ALL THE CLIPS BROKE OFF, SIMPLY WIPING THE DASH OFF WOULD BREAK CHUNKS OFF. IN 2017 WHILE CLEANING MY TAHOE I WAS WIPING THE DASH AND A SHARD CAUGHT THE SIDE OF MY HAND REQUIRING STITCHES. WHILE DRIVING THE DASH HAS NO SUPPORT AND VIBRATES. DEPENDING ON THE TYPE OF ROAD THE VIBRATIONS ARE STRONG ENOUGH TO BREAK CHUNKS OFF THE DASH OFF THAT FALL DOWN INTO THE CONSOLE. MY DASH IS BUSTED FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE ALL THE WAY TO THE PASSENGER SIDE. MY FEAR IS THAT A FRONT IMPACT CAR WRECK WILL TURN MY BRITTLE DASH INTO SHRAPNEL CAUSING INJURY TO FIVE KIDS, MYSELF AND MY HUSBAND. IT CONTINUOUSLY JUST GETS WORSE. I HAVE SAVED ALL THE PIECES THAT I FIND. IT'S HORRIBLE TO THINK THAT IF A SHARD CAN CUT MY DEEP ENOUGH TO REQUIRE STITCHES WHAT COULD THEY DO IN THE EVEN OF A WRECK?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET TAHOE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DASHBOARD HAD AN EXTENSIVE CRACK THAT TRAVELED FROM THE DRIVER TO THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN IF THE FAILURE WOULD AFFECT THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE OTHER COMPONENTS NEAR THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. KEYES CHEVROLET (5949 VAN NUYS BLVD, SHERMAN OAKS, CA 91401, (818) 254-8277) WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT AVAILABLE.
THE DASHBOARD OF MY 2010 TAHOE HAS MULTIPLE CRACKS AND IS BROKEN ALL OVER FROM NO FAULT OF MY OWN. THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE FOR MANY PEOPLE WITH GM VEHICLES OF THIS NATURE AND THE COMPANY WON'T HELP ME REPAIR OR REPLACE MY DASH. I'M SCARED THAT IF I GET INTO AN ACCIDENT THAT THE AIRBAGS WONT DEPLOY OR IF THEY DO, IT WILL BE WITH THOUSANDS OF DANGEROUS BROKEN PLASTIC CHARDS! I AM SEEKING HELP IN THIS MATTER SO THAT THE COMPANY CAN UNDERSTAND THAT THEIR PRODUCT HAS FAULTS AND IS PUTTING CONSUMERS IN RISK OF SERIOUS HARM AND INJURY.
THE DASH RIGHT BY THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ON THE DRIVERS SIDE CRACKED FOR NO APPARENT REASON OTHER THAN DEFECTIVE MATERIALS USED BY GM AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM . THE VEHICLE HAS 31000 MILES AND IS GARAGE KEPT 95 % OF THE TIME. I SPOKE TO MY LOCAL DEALER THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THE PROBLEM SO THE COST WOULD BE ON ME TO REPLACE AT $1000.00....GM SHOULD FIX THESE AFTER ALL THE VEHICLE ONLY COST 54,000 NEW .
I HAVE A CRACKED DASH NEAR THE PASSENGER AIR BAG, I'VE CONTACTED SEVERAL ENTITIES ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND WAS TOLD IT COULDN'T BE REPAIRED DUE TO PROXIMITY TO THE AIR BAG, I THEN SEARCHED ONLINE AND DISCOVERED THAT THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST GM DUE TO FAULTY INTERIOR DASH, IF THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, UTMOST DEFINITELY NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED.
AFTER HEAVY RAIN I NOTICED THAT BOTH OF MY BACK DOORS SOUNDED LIKE THERE WAS A GALLON OF WATER INSIDE OF THEM. I READ THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE! I CAN ONLY IMAGINE THE AMOUNT OF RUSTING HAPPENING INSIDE OF THERE AS WELL AS ELECTRICAL DAMAGE & RISKS OF HAVING WET SPEAKERS & WIRING INSIDE THE DOOR. UNACCEPTABLE. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL.
TRIED TO GET TAKATA AIRBAGS REPLACED, AND DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO HELP.
