SEVERAL MALFUNCTION INDICATOR WARNING LIGHTS AND MESSAGES CONTINUE TO APPEAR ON THE DRIVER CONSOLE UNDER CERTAIN DRIVING CONDITIONS. THEY WARN "SERVICE STABILITRAK" ; "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL" ; AND, "ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED" THESE MALFUNCTION ALERT ARE ACCOMPANIED BY A SEVERE DECELERATION OF THE VEHICLE AND NO RESPONSE OR VERY MODEST RESPONSE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS DEPRESSED. THIS ISSUE HAS PRESENTED ITSELF FOUR (4) SEPARATE TIMES IN 2016 AND 2017 WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN ON HIGHWAYS (3 TIMES AT SPEEDS OF 60 MPH) AND ALWAYS WHEN THE TEMPERATURE HAS BEEN NEAR OR BELOW FREEZING (32 DEGREES). GM HAS NOTIFIED ME OF THIS ISSUE IMPACTING CARS OF THE SAME YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE ON BOARD COMPUTER (OBC) CLEARS AFTER THE 3RD RESTART (ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP) AND PROOF OF THE ERROR VIA THE OBC IS WIPED OUT (ONLY LEAVING ME WITH VIDEO AND PICTURES, WHICH GMC WILL NOT HONOR IN ITS REPAIR PROTOCOL). AS STATED, THIS REOCCURRING ISSUE IS BEING EXPERIENCED AT HIGH SPEEDS ON BUSY HIGHWAYS AND THE CAR WILL QUICKLY THROTTLE DOWN TO SPEEDS OF 30-40 MPH -- WHICH IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IN A HIGHWAY ENVIRONMENT (LIKE THE 495 BELTWAY IN WASHINGTON, DC). I TRULY FEAR FOR MY SAFETY IN DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AND GMC IS COMPLACENT IN HAVING ME PROVE THROUGH THE OBC THAT THIS IS HAPPENING, AND THEN HAVING A DEALERSHIP RECREATE THE ISSUE. THERE A HUNDREDS OF REFERENCES TO THIS ISSUE AS I SEARCHED THE INTERNET FOR ANSWERS LONG BEFORE GMC REACHED OUT TO ME. GMC IS PLAYING GAMES WITH CONSUMERS AND ADVISING THAT THIS ISSUE DOWS NOT POSE TO SAFETY HAZARD. MY EXPERIENCES IN THIS VEHICLE ARE PROOF THAT THEIR CLAIMS ARE FALSE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE --- CONTACT ME --- GM'S PROTOCOL IS GETTING IN THE WAY OF ADDRESSING DANGEROUS VEHICLE ISSUES.
STEERING IS STIFF AND VERY HARD TO TURN AT LOW SPEED OR STOPPED.
THE TIMING CHAIN AND THE CRANK SENSOR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE STABILITRAC WARNING AND REDUCED ENGINE POWER WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
GAS TANK DOES ACCURATELY SHOW HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE LEFT. THE FUEL GAUGE CONSTANTLY FLUCTUATES. I WAS DRIVING AND MY MILE RANGE SHOWED I HAD 54 MILES WORTH OF GAS LEFT. I MADE A STOP AND THE CAR WAS IDLING AND WHEN I GOT BACK IN THE CAR IT SHOWED I HAD 89 MILES WORTH OF GAS LEFT. WHEN I GOT TO MY DESTINATION I GOT THE LOW FUEL WARNING MESSAGE. I HAVE WATCHED MY FUEL GAUGE AND MILE RANGE GO UP INCREMENTALLY WHILE IN PARK. THIS ISSUE IS THE SAME ISSUE AS A RECALL WITH LATER MODELS AND IT CAN CAUSE A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT IF MY CAR STALLS OR SHUTS OFF BECAUSE THERE WAS NOT AS MUCH GAS IN THE CAR AS THE GAUGE STATES. SIMILAR RECALL BELOW WITH SAME EXACT ISSUES. POWER STEERING FAILURE AT LOW SPEEDS,AROUND CORNERS,WHILE PARKING,INTERMITENT.
MY CHECK-ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS ON A 300 MILE TRIP, AND THE TROUBLE CODES AT 2 DIFFERENT SHOPS INDICATED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN HAD STRETCHED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 81,000 MILES. LUCKILY, THE VEHICLE DID NOT BREAKDOWN ON THE HIGHWAY. PRIOR TO LEARNING ABOUT SIMILAR PROBLEMS IN 2009 AND SOME 2010 MODELS, I HAD THE CHAIN REPLACED BY A NON GM MECHANIC. SINCE THEN I LEARNED THAT GM HAS REIMBURSED OR EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON SELECT TRAVERSE VEHICLES.
NOT SURE I SHOULD DO THIS BUT IT HAS OCCURED 2 TIMES BOW. MY TRAVERSE ECCELERATOR GETS STUCK DOWN AND YOU CANT ATOP. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IS PUT IN NUTRAL IF YOU HAVE THE TIME. I AM AFRAID TO HAVE MY WIFE DEIVE THIS. IT HAPPENED FOR THE 2ND TIME SINCE I HAVE OWNED IT THE OTHER DAY. THE BREAKS WONT WORM UNLESS YOU PUT IT INTO NUTRAL!!!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND A WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I TOOK IT TO A SHOP, WHERE THEY TOLD ME THE CODES INDICATE THAT YOUR TIMING CHAIN IS STRETCHED. THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE BUT DOES NOT COVER THE 2010 MODEL. I WAS TOLD THAT THE ISSUE HAD BEEN CORRECTED WITH BETTER PARTS, BUT IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE THE 2007,2008, AND 2009 MODEL YEARS.
I HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WHEN THE VEHICLE GETS WET FROM RAIN OR ANY KIND OF MOISTURE I LOSE ALL WARNING CHIMES, BLINKERS ON OCCASION, AND THE LIGHTS WILL FLICKER AT TIMES. DEFECTIVE TIMING CHAINS IN A VEHICLE THAT WAS MANUFACTURED IN 2009 WHERE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS ISSUED FOR VEHICLES HAVING FAULTY TIMING CHAINS BUT SINCE MY VEHICLE WAS SOLD AS A 2010 I DON'T QUALIFY FOR THE SPECIAL EXTENDED WARRANTY. WHILE DRIVING AROUND A BEND WITH THE DEFECTIVE TIMING CHAIN I HAVE ENCOUNTERED A LOSS OF POWER ON THE HIGHWAY WHICH ALMOST CAUSED A WRECK WHILE MY KIDS WERE IN THE CAR ON A TRIP. *TR
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AT AROUND 82,000 MILES. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE TELLING US THE TIMING CHAIN IS STRETCHED AND NEEDS REPLACED. $2,200.00 TO REPAIR. I'VE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND THIS VERY ISSUE WAS FIXED UNDER WARRANTY FOR THE 2007-2009 MODEL YEARS. FOR SOME REASON GM IS NOT WARRANTING BEYOND THAT. WHILE RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE I FOUND INSTANCES WHERE THE CHAIN CATASTROPHICALLY FAILED CAUSING THE DRIVE SYSTEM TO LOCK UP.

WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CHECK ENGINE, TRACTION CONTROL, AND STABILITRAK WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE'S POWER INDEPENDENTLY REDUCED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,940.
STABILITY CONTROL AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND TRANSMISSION WONT WORK PARK AND NOW IT DOSENT WORK WHY NO RECALL TOO MANY COMPLAINTS.
OUR 2010 TRAVERSE HAS JUST OVER 91,000 MILES ON IT. WE TOOK OUR VEHICLE TO A LOCAL GM DEALER TO HAVE A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DIAGNOSED. THE DEALER CAME BACK AND INFORMED ME WE NEEDED TO HAVE OUR TIMING BELTS REPLACED AND WOULD COST AT LEAST $3000 TO REPAIR. THE MORE I DUG INTO THIS DIAGNOSIS, I'VE COME ACROSS NUMEROUS POSTS FROM OTHER '09-'10 OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. SOME HAD EXPERIENCED SUDDEN LOSS IN POWER WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND OTHERS HADN'T EVEN HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON. THERE WERE SOME OWNERS THAT HAD TO HAVE THESE ITEMS REPLACED AT AROUND 60,000MI. I HAVE REACHED OUT TO GM AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO HELP ALLEVIATE THIS COST, NOR ARE THEY IN A POSITION TO ISSUE A RECALL. THEY ALSO INFORMED ME THAT WE MISSED THE 'WARRANTY PERIOD' BY A YEAR AND A HALF AND THAT THERE ARE NO 'SPECIAL BULLETINS' RELATED TO MY VEHICLE. I ASKED IF THEY HAD AN INCREASE IN OTHER CALLS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE AND THEY DENIED ANY KNOWING OF THIS. MY DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THEY ARE SEEING SUCH AN INCREASE IN THIS ISSUE THAT THEY KEEP AN INVENTORY OF PARTS ON HAND AND THEY PERFORM AT LEAST 3 TIMING CHAIN REPAIRS A WEEK. I'M FORTUNATE THAT OUR DEALERSHIP IS WORKING WITH US ON DOING WHAT THEY CAN TO ALLEVIATE SOME OF THE COST, BUT GM IS NOT DOING ANYTHING ON THEIR END TO ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS A POTENTIAL PROBLEM OR WILLING TO HELP OUT.
AT APPROXIMATELY 92,000 MILES I STARTED GETTING ERROR CODE P0008 ON MY 2010 CHEVY TRAVERSE. THE LIGHT WOULD COME ON FOR A FEW DAYS, THEN OFF FOR A DAY OR TWO, UNTIL FINALLY IT JUST STAYED ON ALL OF THE TIME. THE ACCELERATION WAS VERY POOR, AND THE GAS MILEAGE POOR AS WELL (COMPARED TO WHAT IT HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN GETTING). I CHANGE MY OIL WELL BEFORE THE METER IN THE CAR TELLS ME TO, USUALLY BEFORE 5000 MILES. DEALER SAID THE TIMING CHAINS STRETCHED DUE TO EXCESSIVELY DIRTY OIL, BUT AS STATED EARLIER, I ALWAYS CHANGED THE OIL BEFORE THE METER SAID TO CHANGE THE OIL. DEALER REPLACED ALL TENSIONERS AND CHAINS AND RESEALED THE FRONT COVER AND REFILLED FLUIDS. GM COVERED 45% OF COST EVEN THOUGH VEHICLE WAS BEYOND WARRANTY PERIOD. FOR A JOB THAT USUALLY WOULD COST ABOUT $2300, I PAID $1336. I'VE READ THAT OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH THE 3.6L V6 ON THE EARLY MODEL TRAVERSES AND OTHER GMS WITH THE SAME ENGINE. I BELIEVE THAT THE REASON THAT I GOT UP TO 92,000 MILES IS BECAUSE I CHANGE MY OIL SO REGULARLY. THE LACK OF ACCELERATION WAS VERY UNSAFE FOR MERGING INTO TRAFFIC IN DENVER, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT FIRST BEGAN HAPPENING, UNEXPECTEDLY. VEHICLE WAS HAVING TROUBLE HOLDING SPEED ON HILLS ON FAST STREETS. IF PROBLEM HAD GOTTEN WORSE, VEHICLE WOULD HAVE NOT BEEN DRIVABLE. *TR
I AM WRITING BECAUSE I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE A LITTLE OVER 1 YEAR AND PUT LESS THAN 18,000 MILES ON IT AND YET IT IS CONSTANTLY IN THE SHOP FOR COSTLY REPAIRS. I AM CURRENTLY WONDERING WHERE DRIVETIME SOURCES THESE VEHICLES FROM BECAUSE A USED CAR SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE IN THE SHOP AS MUCH AS MY CAR IS ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVETIME'S CHOSED EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY AEVEREX ONLY WANTS TO PAY FOR REPAIRS THAT THEY DEEM FAIR TO PAY FOR WHICH IS A DISADVANTAGE FOR A BUYER SUCH AS MYSELF. I HAVE CONSISTENTLY PAID MY NOTE ON TIME AND GOT THE RUN AROUND FOR 2 WEEKS ON THE LAST REPAIRS THAT AEVEREX TOOK THEIR TIME ADDRESSING. I DON'T MIND MAKING MINOR REPAIRS LIKE TIRES OR MAYBE A HOLE IN THE MUFFLER BUT TO HAVE TO REPLACE A TIMING CHAIN WITHIN A WEEK OF THE PURCHASE AND AN ENGINE FLYWHEEL AND STARTER IN BARELY A YEAR OF THE PURCHASE MAKES IT SEEM AS IF THESE CARS WERE BROKEN DOWN BEFORE BEING SOLD TO UNSUSPECTING CUSTOMERS SUCH AS MYSELF BY DRIVETIME AND THEIR REFUSAL TO ASSIST TO THE CUSTOMERS IN THEIR TIME OF NEED MAKES IT SEEM AS IF THEY WERE INTENTIONAL ON GETTING THESE DAMAGED GOODS OFF OF THEIR HANDS. I AM FILING THIS FORMAL COMPLAINT WITH THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION BECAUSE THIS IS AN IMPORTANT ISSUE AS MY CAR HAS STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF ONCOMING HIGHWAY TRAFFIC AND I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. THIS VEHICLE IS A TRUE LEMON AND I ONLY WISHED THAT I HAD DONE MORE RESEARCH ON DRIVETIME BEFORE PURCHASING FROM THEM. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE WIPERS IN THE FIRST MONTH IN ADDITION TO THE TIMING CHAIN AND TIRES THE NEXT MONTH, FRONT BRAKE LIGHTS, BACK BRAKE LIGHTS, A FLEXPLATE, A FLYWHEEL, AND MULTIPLE OTHER REPAIRS. PLEASE RESPOND AND OFFER SOME TYPE OF ASSISTANCE.
MY 2010 TRAVERSE WITH 76,200 MILES DISPLAYED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I HAD IT CHECKED AT A LOCAL PARTS STORE AND THE CODE WAS P0008. I TOOK THE TRAVERSE TO ORR CHEVROLET WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH SLACK IN THE TIMING CHAIN. I CONTACTED GM AND THEY ADVISED THAT THEY WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT SINCE IT WAS A 2010 AND OUT OF THE 5 YEAR POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. DESPITE THE FACT THEY HAD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE 2009 MODELS BECAUSE THEY HAD THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT ON THE TRAVERSE AND GM SHOULD RECALL AND COVER REPAIRS. AS IT STANDS, I AM ABOUT TO PAY $2300.00 TO REPAIR WHAT IS A KNOWN DEFECT. GM MADE NO SIGNIFICANT DESIGN CHANGES TO PREVENT THIS DEFECT FROM CAUSING THE CHAIN TO GAIN SLACK AND CAUSE ENGINE ISSUES TO DEVELOP. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING AT 35 MPH WHEN IT INITIALLY CAME ON BUT CAME BACK ON AFTER BEING RESET WHILE SITTING IN THE LOT OF AUTOZONE. THE TRAVERSE SHOULD NOT HAVE SUCH A FAILURE IN ONLY 72,000 MILES, THERE IS A DEFECT AND SHOULD BE RECALLED IN MODELS LATER THAN 2009. THE DESIGN CHANGES IF ANY FOR THE 2010 MODELS CLEARLY DIDN'T SOLVE THE ISSUE. THE VEHICLES IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER, AND I DON'T HAVE THE ESTIMATE OR RECEIPT AT THIS TIME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE AND THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000. UPDATED 07/12/17*LJ *CN
EPS SYSTEM IS DEFECTIVE NO POWER STEERING AT LOW SPEED OR WHEN ENGINE IS IDLING CANNOT TURN CAR AT LOW SPEED MAKES WHINING NOISE AT HIGH SPEED.
I AM HAVING TIMING CHAIN ISSUES AS EVERYONE ELSE I HAVE SEEN OR READ ABOUT MY SUB ONLY 78,000 MILES AND GM WILL NOT EXTEND THE WARRANTY ON THIS PART
POWER STEERING FAILS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN AT SLOW SPEEDS (PARKING ETC).
POWER STEERING SUDDENLY GOES OUT AT LOW SPEEDS, WHEN COASTING, VERY HARD TO TURN FROM A STOPPED POSITION UNTIL YOU START GOING, SLOWING DOWN FOR CURVES OR TURNS IT GOES OUT AS WELL, ALL ON NORMAL PAVED ROADS. IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WHICH WHEN GOING 45 MPH AND YOU TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE GAS TO COAST AROUND A CURVE, THE STEERING WHEEL BECOMES SO STIFF I VEARED INTO THE OTHER LANE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC JUST FIGHTING THE STEERING WHEEL. HITTING THE BRAKES MADE IT EVEN WORSE. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!!
WHEN TURNING LEFT OF RIGHT AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED THE POWER STEERING FAILS FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME, RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE NOT NEGOTIATING THE TURN CORRECTLY. JUST LAST WEEK I WAS TURNING LEFT AT A STOP LIGHT TRYING TO STEER INTO THE INSIDE LANE; HOWEVER, THE STEERING WILL WOULD NOT TURN AS REQUIRED - RESULTING IN MY CAR TRAVELING INTO THE OUTSIDE LANE. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE THAT COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. I NOTICED THAT SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING SIMILAR ISSUES AND WOULD LIKE IT TO BE INVESTIGATED FURTHER.
POWER STEERING GIVES OUT WHEN GOING SLOW AND TURNING. LIKE TURNING INTO A PARKING SPACE, OR TURNING CORNERS. DEAL SAYS THE POWER STEERING RACK IS LEAKING ON BOTH SIDES. THE CAR HAS 79000 MILES
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND THE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND POWERED OFF THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ERIC VON SCHLEDORN CHEVROLET BUICK (805 E GREEN BAY AVE, SAUKVILLE, WI 53080, (262) 284-8000) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN AND TENSIONER FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,847.
TIMING CHAIN DEAD AT JUST 106,000 MILES
TIMING CHAIN IS LOOSE. LOOSING FUEL AND POWER.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR BAG SYSTEM FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000.
POWER STEERING HAS BECOME DIFFICULT TO STEER WHEN TRYING TO PARK OR LEAVE PARKING LOT. THE CAR IS IN THE SHOP NOW FOR A > $1500 REPAIR. REPLACE BOTH RACK & PINION AND POWER STEERING PUMP.
STEERING GOES IN AND OUT AT LOW SPEEDS. INTERMITTENTLY BECOMES VERY HARD/ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. IT IS MOST PRONOUNCED WHEN TURNING INTO OR OUT OF A PARKING SPACE BUT WILL ALSO SOMETIMES OCCUR WHEN PULLING OUT FROM A STOP SIGN INTO TRAFFIC AND WHEN TURNING ONTO OTHER STREETS.
AT LOW SPEEDS 5-20 MPH POWER STEERING IS NOT WORKING/VERY HARD TO TURN LEFT OR RIGHT! VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR ANYONE WHO OWNS A TRAVERSE!!!!

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN WAS FAILING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 115,000.

CAR STOPPED FUNCTIONING IN MIDDLE OF HIGHWAY WITH NO WARNING. WAS VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WITH 2 SMALL CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE. NO STEERING, NO POWER BRAKES AND NO ENGINE. TRAVERSE WAS PURCHASED NEW IN AUG 2010 AND HAS APPROX. 55,000 MILES. NEEDS NEW ENGINE. HAD CHAIN ISSUES IN JAN 2015.

REPLACED POWER STEERING FLUID; 5/19/2012 GRINDING NOISE WHEN TURNING WHEEL, AGAIN NO FLUID, INLET CLAMP LOOSE, RESECURED & ADDED FLUID AGAIN, 6/22/2016, INTERMITTENTLY WHEN GO TO TURN POWER STEERING LIKE A MANUAL STEERING, NO POWER STEERING FLUID, CHECKED, POWERING STEERING PUMP & STEERING GEAR DETERMINED TO BE CAUSE, $ 464 FOR REPAIRS! IF MY YOUNGER DRIVING AGE CHILDREN WERE DRIVING, WOULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 152,000.
JUNE 2016, APPROX. 114,000 MI - FELT A LURCH IN STOP & GO TRAFFIC; FLASHED "SERVICE STABILITRAK," "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL," "BACKUP ALERTS = OFF". THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED. A FEW MILES DOWN THE ROAD WHEN TRAFFIC SPED UP, I REALIZED I ONLY HAD ONE GEAR AND COULD NOT ACCELERATE ABOVE 60MPH. A SERIOUS PROBLEM ON THE INTERSTATE! SEVERAL HOURS LATER, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON, BUT THE CAR DROVE NORMALLY -- STRAIGHT TO THE REPAIR SHOP, WHERE IT WAS DEEMED TO NEED $2400 IN TRANSMISSION REPAIR DUE TO THE FOLLOWING FAULT CODES: P182E & C0561. THEY WILL REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION MODE SHIFT SENSOR AND THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE. THE MECHANIC ALSO INFORMED US THAT WE WILL EVENTUALLY NEED A $700 REPAIR FOR THE CONTROL ARMS IN THE REAR SUSPENSION -- GE HAS CORRECTED A KNOWN FAULT IN THE PARTS. ALL THIS IS ON TOP OF A $3000 REPAIR DONE IN APRIL 2015 AT 92,500 MI. FOR KNOWN STEERING DEFECTS. IN THAT CASE, AS THE TRAVERSE WARMED UP, THE POWER STEERING GOT HARD TO TURN. GM REPAIRED PART OF THE PROBLEM AT NO COST, REPLACING POWER STEERING PUMP AND GEAR HOUSING. ANOTHER MECHANIC COMPLETED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY THAT WAS ALSO PART OF THE PROBLEM. THESE ARE BOTH SUBSTANTIAL DEFECTS AND REPAIRS NEEDED IN A VEHICLE THAT WAS EXPECTED TO LAST MUCH LONGER BEFORE NEEDING MORE THAN ROUTINE MAINTENANCE.
THE TIMING CHAIN HAS STRETCHED AND THE DEALER SAYS IT WILL TAKE 19 HOURS TO CHANGE IT. AUTO MFG WENT TO TIMING CHAINS FROM RUBBER BELTS, SO THEY DON'T HAVE TO CHANGE IT. THE WARRANTY IS FOR 5 YRS OR 100,000 MILES. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND THE WARRANTY FOR THIS EXPENSIVE JOB SHOULD BE EXTENDED. ONCE THE CHAIN BRAKES, THE CAR IS DONE. THE CAR MAKES NOISE AND DOESN'T ACCELERATE PROPERLY BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. FIRST NOTICED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON ABOUT 6 MONTHS OR SO AGO. IT WASN'T UNTIL WE BROKE DOWN IN CANADA THAT THE DEALER THERE SAID IT WAS THE TIMING CHAIN WHEN THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY.
WITHOUT ANY WARNING THE SHIFTING GEAR STOP WORKING WHEN PLACED ON PARK, THE TRUCK MOVES FORWARD OR BACKWARDS DEPENDING ON WHERE I PARK IT, THE PERSON WASHING MY TRUCK WAS LUCKY TO BE ABLE TO STOP IT WHEN HE NOTICED IT WAS MOVING BACKWARDS WHEN PARKED UPHILL, IT COULD HAVE BEEN A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT POSSIBLY FATAL!

THE POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING, ESPECIALLY AT LOWER SPEEDS. WHEN MAKING A TURN, THE STEERING STIFFENS UP AND MAKE IT VERY HARD TO TURN. THIS IS A DOCUMENTED AND ADMITTED DEFECT BY GENERAL MOTORS FOR THE 2009 MODEL YEAR TRAVERSE. OUR VEHICLE IS AN EARLY 2010 MODEL YEAR VEHICLE (BUILT SEP 3, 2009 AND PUT INTO SERVICE JAN 4, 2010). GM IS AWARE OF THIS WIDE SPREAD ISSUE AND HAS NOT ACCEPTED RESPONSIBILITY FOR REPAIRS. ADDITIONALLY, WE HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO USE THE REMOTE START (DURING WINTER IN MN!) BECAUSE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DISABLES THIS FEATURE.
AT 84000 MILES THE EMISSIONS LIGHT CAME ON YET NOTHING WAS A RED FLAG WHILE DRIVING. NO NOISES OR ANYTHING SEEMED DIFFERENT. HAD DIAGNOSTICS COMPLETED AND TIMING CHAIN WAS STRETCHED AND NEEDED REPLACED. CODES P0008, P0009, P0017 APPEARED. COST $2500. OUR WARRANTY WAS UP AT 83000 MILES. SEEMS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM YET THE DEALERSHIP NEVER MENTIONED ANY OF THIS DURING THE SALE. GM SHOULD HAVE A RECALL ON THIS!!
MAJOR HEADACHES WITH MY 2010 CHEV TRAVERSE WITH SO MANY ISSUES INCLUDING RECALLS AND THE TIMING CHAIN BEING REPLACED/REPAIRED RECENTLY. AND NOW, THE ENGINE FAILED....IT NEEDS A NEW OR REBUILT ENGINE. UNFORTUNATELY I'M BEYOND MY WARRANTY OF 5 YEARS / 100,000 MILES. COST WITH LABOR TO REPLACE THE ENGINE IS ABOUT $7,000 +. IT'S NOT WORTH IT AND I STILL OWE $4,800 ON THE LOAN. THE DEALER STATED THE TIMING CHAIN ISSUE WAS NOT RELATED TO THE FAILED ENGINE, BUT I'M NOT SURE. I'M JUST FRUSTRATED WITH THE TRAVERSE.
