POWER STEERING PUMP WENT OUT STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP AT LOW RPM OR IN NEUTRAL RIDICULOUS AT THIS MILEAGE CAR IS SUPPOSED TO BE UPPER CLASS WITH UPPER CLASS MECHANICAL FAILURES?? *TR
THE SEAT FRAME THAT SECURES THE THIRD ROW PASSENGER SEAT AND BOLTS THE SEAT TO THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE HAS BEGUN TO RUST. *TR
I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR THE SEAT BELT RECALL. THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED, LEAVING QUESTIONS. HOW DOES REMOVING THE SLEEVE ON THE SEAT BELT AND REPLACING IT WITH SHRINK WRAP PLASTIC MAKE THIS SAFER? THERE IS NOW NOTHING TO PREVENT THE SEAT BELT CABLE FROM RUBBING ON THE SIDES OF THE NOW HOLE WHERE THE SLEEVE WAS. NOT TO MENTION THIS LEAVES THIS AREA LOOKING TERRIBLE AND UNFINISHED. *TR
2011 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ISSUES WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL FEATURES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN DECREASING ACCELERATION, APPROACHING A CURVE OR STOP SIGN, THE TRANSMISSION DOWN SHIFTED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO GO INTO AN UNCONTROLLABLE SKID WITH THE FRONT WHEELS ACTUALLY LOCKING UP. ALSO, WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKE, WHEN HE APPROACHED A CURVE OR STOP SIGN, THE ABS OVER-REACTED, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO GO INTO A SKID. BOTH INCIDENTS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON SNOW COVERED ROADS. WHEN IT FIRST HAPPENED, HE WENT THOUGH THE STOP SIN AND ENDED UP IN A DITCH WHEN GOING AROUND TWO MODERATE CURVES AT SLOW SPEED. THE CONSUMER READ THE OWNER'S MANUAL AND DISCOVERED THE TRACTION CONTROL COULD BE TURNED OFF BY FLIPPING A SWITCH. AFTER DOING SO, THE VEHICLE PERFORMED FLAWLESSLY WITH SLIPPERY CONDITIONS AND CONTINUED TO DO SO AS LONG AS THE TRACTION CONTROL WAS TURNED OFF. THE PROBLEM WAS AMPLIFIED BY THE FACT, THE TRACTION CONTROL WAS AUTOMATICALLY ON WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED.
ON FRIDAY, JULY 25, 2014, MY 2011 CHEVY TRAVERSE STALLED/SHUTDOWN WHILE DRIVING. I PULLED OUT OF A LOCAL GAS STATION AND IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. ALMOST SIMULTANEOUSLY THE CAR BEGAN TO STALL/SHUTDOWN. I PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER (FORTUNATELY THERE WAS ONE). I TURNED THE AC UNIT AND RADIO OFF. I STARTED THE CAR WITHOUT ANY NOISE. I DROVE APPROXIMATELY 1 MILE, TURNED THE AC BACK ON AND THE CAR STALLED/SHUTDOWN ONCE AGAIN, THIS TIME AS THE CAR WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH. TO SAY THE LEAST, I WAS EXTREMELY DISTRAUGHT AS THE CAR LOST POWER AND STEERING. FORTUNATELY, (FOR MY FAMILY AND CHEVY), THERE WERE NO CHILDREN IN THE CAR AND THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THE PROBLEM WAS RELATED TO THE AC UNIT AND WANTS TO CHARGE ME ALMOST $2,000 TO FIX! THE AC UNIT WAS "FIXED" BACK IN JUNE 2013 WHILE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY. IT IS NO LONGER COVERED BY WARRANTY. MY ISSUE IS THAT THE CAR STALLED/SHUT DOWN. A CAR SHUTTING DOWN AT ANY SPEED IS A CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER. TRAVELING AT 35 MPH CREATES AN EVEN MORE DANGEROUS SITUATION. IF THE AC UNIT CAN STALL A VEHICLE THEN THIS HAS TO BE AN INHERENT DESIGN/PRODUCTION ISSUE. THERE IS NO ACCEPTABLE WAY THAT AN AC UNIT CAN FAIL AND THUS CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO SHUT DOWN PUTTING PEOPLE'S LIVES IN DANGER. HOPEFULLY, MY INCIDENT REPORT WILL PREVENT ANY FUTURE PROBLEMS LIKE THIS FROM OCCURRING, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, PROTECT PEOPLE'S LIVES. *TR
WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A STOP, STEERING ASSIST WAS LOST. ASSIST RETURNED AFTER SHUTTING OFF VEHICLE AND RESTARTING. THE FIRST DAY, IT HAPPENED ON TWO OCCASIONS BUT DURING SUBSEQUENT DAYS, FREQUENCY OF LOSS OF ASSIST INCREASED UNTIL IT HAPPENS ON NEARLY EVERY STOP. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, STEERING EFFORT INCREASES MAKING VEHICLE CONTROL DIFFICULT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE FLEXIBLE STEEL CABLE FRACTURED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V266000 (SEAT BELTS). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PART NEEDED TO REMEDY THE RECALL WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE. WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT, THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED TO THE DRIVE POSITION AND ROLLED AWAY APPROXIMATELY 10 TO 50 FEET. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VALVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE ENGINE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE WAITING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, A VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR END AND PUSHED THE VEHICLE INTO AN INTERSECTION. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND THE SEAT BELT FAILED TO RESTRAIN HER. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE CHEST, KNEE AND A FRACTURED HAND. THE POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED THREE TIMES PRIOR TO THE FAILURE HOWEVER, THE DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND AS A TEMPORARY REMEDY RESET THE LIGHT. THE CONTACT ALSO LATER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 14V118000 (AIR BAG). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE WAS 45,000.
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS MY 2011 CHEVY TRAVERSE BEGAN TO OVERHEAT. THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE PEGGED ALL THE WAY UP TO 260 DEGREES. I CHECKED THE COOLANT TANK AND COULD SEE THAT IT WAS SLIGHTLY LOW BUT NOTHING TO CAUSE AN OVERHEAT. I ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE TO GET TO AN AUTO PARTS STORE TO GET COOLANT. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE COOLANT AND ADDED THE COOLANT AND ALLOWED THE CAR TO COOL BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO START AGAIN. AFTER ABOUT 30 MINUTES HAD PASSED I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WAS DOWN TO 211 DEGREES. I ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE AGAIN AND A MESSAGE CAME UP ON MY DIC, IT READ ENGINE OVERHEAT IDLE ENGINE, THE ENGINE POWER REDUCED AND I WAS ONLY ABLE TO GO ABOUT 40MPH. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TO NO AVAIL IN THE END HAD TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. AFTER $745.00, THE WATER PUMP AND THERMOSTAT HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE TECHNICIAN INDICATED THAT THE WATER PUMP HAD BEEN LEAKING. I NEVER SAW ANY LEAKING IN MY DRIVEWAY OR WHEN I CHANGED THE OIL. *TR
PURCHASED A USED CHEVY TRAVERSE THAT NOW HAS 57,000 MILES. DURING A SERVICE APPOINTMENT THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THE POWER STEERING FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE STEERING GEAR. THE REPAIR WAS ESTIMATED AT $1,600 USD. THE REPAIR IS NECESSARY TO MAINTAIN THE VEHICLE IN A SAFE WORKING ORDER BUT IM DISAPPOINTED THAT IM HAVING TO PAY FOR A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR ON A RELATIVELY NEW VEHICLE. NUMEROUS CONSUMERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE, I WOULD HOPE THAT CHEVY WOULD INVESTIGATE THE SITUATION IN MORE DETAIL AND OFFER TO COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIRS. I DID NOTICE A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE ISSUE (SERVICE BULLETIN 361329, ACTION NUMBER: 10052379), BUT THE EXISTENCE OF THE SERVICE BULLETIN STILL RESULTED IN ME HAVING TO PAY THE FULL COST OF THE REPAIR AT THE DEALERSHIP. I BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM THAT CHEVY NEEDS TO TAKE OWNERSHIP FOR THE SITUATION. MY BIGGEST CONCERN IS THE POSSIBILITY OF EXPERIENCED STEERING FAILURE WHILE DRIVING 55+ MILE PER HOUR WITH NO WARNING. I HAVE SMALL CHILDREN AND WE LIVE IN A VERY BUSY COMMUTING AREA. STEERING FAILURE COULD BE TRAGIC FOR US. PLEASE HELP *TR
LETTER FROM CONGRESSMAN RIBBLE ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT RE 2011 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE ( ATTN: KERRY NIEMCEK). *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND RACK AND PINION MALFUNCTIONED DURING OPERATION. *JB

STOPPED AT A SHARP CARVE HAD TO MANUALLY TURN THE WHEEL. DONE THIS 3 TIMES BEFORE I MADE IT HOME. DOES NOT HAVE A PROBLEM IN AVERAGE CURVES JUST WHEN MAKING A SHARP TURN. PARKING WAS A MAJOR ISSUE. *TR
THE POWER STEERING IN MY 2011 CHEVY TRAVERSE FAILS FREQUENTLY WHEN TURNING INTO STREETS, PARKING LOTS OR DRIVEWAYS. THE STEERING LOCKS UP AND IS HARD TO NAVIGATE TURNS ALMOST CAUSING ACCIDENTS. I HAVE SAFETY CONCERNS WHICH PUTS MY ENTIRE FAMILY AT RISK. I TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY CLAIMED THAT IT WAS THE RACK AND PINION THAT WAS WORN PER THE REPAIR ORDER WHICH I PAID $1600 TO FIX. ONCE I TOOK THE VEHICLE HOME, THE SAME PROBLEM WAS STILL OCCURRING. VERY FRUSTRATED THAT THE REPAIR DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE NOW THEY TOLD ME THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW POWER STEERING PUMP. IT WAS REPLACED AND BILLED TO GM AS A "GOODWILL" REPAIR ORDER OF $700. THERE IS CLEARLY A DEFECT IN THE STEERING AND HOPE THAT GM EXTENDS AND ISSUES A RECALL FOR THE 2011 TRAVERSE BEFORE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OCCURS. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE EVEN AFTER THE REPAIR. *TR
2011 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO THE SIDE IMPACT AIRBAG WIRING HARNESS CONNECTORS RECALL NOTICE. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED, THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE AND IT WOULD BE ORDERED. THE CONSUMER HAS NOT HEARD ANYTHING FROM THE DEALER, SINCE JUNE. *JB
THE REAR VIEW MIRROR THAT CONTAINS A BACKUP CAMERA LOOKS VERY CLOUDY/FOGGY AND IS VISIBLE HARD TO USE. ALSO THE SECOND ROW SEATS (DRIVER AND PASSENGER) SEAT BELTS ARE NO LONGER BUCKLING PROPERLY. MY 11 YEAR OLD SEATS BACK THERE AND EVERYTIME WE HIT A BUMP THE SEATBELT POPS OUT OF ITS BUCKLE.
WE HAVE ONLY HAD OUR TRAVERSE SINCE JANUARY, BUT HAVE NOTICED NUMEROUS TIMES THAT THE BRAKES GRIND (AT TIMES) WHEN APPLYING THEM. THE CAR ONLY HAD 24,000 MILES ON IT WHEN WE BOUGHT IT, IT SHOULDN'T HAVE NEEDED BRAKES ALREADY. FINALLY HAD MONEY FOR THE BRAKES TO BE CHECKED AND WE NEED PADS AND ROTORS ON ALL THE WHEELS. IT SEEMS THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH A LOT OF THE TRAVERSES. ALSO, WE HAVE THE PROBLEM WHICH I HAVE READ ABOUT ON HERE THAT WHEN SITTING AT INCLINE THE CAR LIKE TO ROLL BACK. IT HAS CAUSED ME TO HIT SOMEONE WHEN ON A HILL. OF COURSE THERE ISN'T A RECALL ON THAT EITHER. I DON'T FEEL THAT THESE CARS ARE SAFE FOR YOUNGER DRIVERS. I HAVE TWO SONS THAT I WON'T LET DRIVE MY CAR DO TO THE ISSUES WITH IT. I THINK SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED BY ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS. MY 2011 CHEVY TRAVERSE FUEL GAUGE IS NOT READING CORRECTLY. I FILL THE GAS TANK UP ... IT GOES UP TO FULL AND THEN INSTANTLY GOES BACK DOWN. THERE IS A RECALL ON 2014 MODELS ... WHY NOT THIS MODEL? BEING ABLE TO SEE THE CORRECT READING OF MY FUEL AMOUNT IS PRETTY IMPORTANT TO ME! *JS

2011 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO POWER STEERING ISSUES. *SMD THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER, THE FLUID WAS LOW, BECAUSE THE STEERING GEAR WAS LEAKING. *JB
WE CAME TO A BRIEF STOP AT A DRIVE THROUGH LANE (APPROX. 5-10 SECONDS), HARD CRANK OF THE WHEEL LEFT, MILD ACCELERATION, TRAVELED ABOUT 15 FEET, CRANK TO RIGHT, PULL INTO A PARKING SPOT. IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO THE VEHICLE COMING TO A STOP, I NOTICED THICK WHITE SMOKE EMANATING FROM THE EDGES OF THE HOOD, AND WHEN THE CAR CAME TO A STOP I ORDERED EVERYONE TO GET OUT. BLACK SMOKE STARTED AS WE EXITED THE VEHICLE. I HAD THE FIRE OUT QUICKLY, ESTIMATE 45-60 SECONDS FROM SEEING SMOKE UNTIL THE FIRE WAS COMPLETELY EXTINGUISHED WITH A CHEMICAL EXTINGUISHER. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE FIRE WAS OUT, WHEN I WAS CHECKING THE UNDERCARRIAGE, I NOTICED A TRAIL OF OIL LEADING UP A COUPLE OF FEET FROM THE FINAL RESTING PLACE OF THE VEHICLE. THIS WAS OBSCURED BY ADDITIONAL OIL LEAKING, SHORTLY THEREAFTER. *JS
IN LATE APRIL OF THIS YEAR, DRIVER AND FRONT SEAT PASSENGER IN 2011 TRAVERSE WERE HIT HEAD ON BY ANOTHER DRIVER. THE FRONT IMPACT WAS DISTRIBUTED RELATIVELY EVENLY TO THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE, WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE SUSTAINING SLIGHTLY GREATER DAMAGE. BOTH FRONT-SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT AIRBAG DEPLOYED. THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. ALTHOUGH TWO INDIVIDUALS WERE INJURED IN THE CRASH, THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANTLY MORE INJURES, WAS LIFE FLIGHTED TO HOSPITAL WHERE SHE ULTIMATELY HAD TO HAVE HER SPEEN REMOVED, AMONG SUSTAINING OTHER INJURIES. I SUSPECT THIS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE AIRBAG SENSOR, MECHANISM OF AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT, OR OTHER CURRENTLY UNKNOWN DEFECT. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE REDUCE ENGINE SPEED WARNING MESSAGE ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY DECELERATED. THE FAILURE WAS RECURRING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY POSITION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,780.
I PURCHASED MY 2011 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE AWD IN APRIL 2014 AND WITHIN THE FIRST WEEK I NOTICED A SLIGHT SHUDDERING IN MY STEERING AS I WOULD MAKE A TURN TO EITHER MY RIGHT OR LEFT. IT FEELS LIKE WHEN YOU HAVE A WARPED ROTOR EXCEPT THAT WHEN THIS SHUDDERING OCCURS I AM NOT APPLYING THE BRAKES. ALSO, I HAVE BEEN NOTICING A WHINING NOISE AS I AM MAKING TURNS IN EITHER DIRECTION. THIS IS DEFINITELY COMING FROM THE POWER STEERING PUMP. I CHECKED AND ADDED STEERING FLUID AND THE NEXT DAY THIS STILL CONTINUED. VEHICLE IS JUST OUT OF WARRANTY FOR THE IN-SERVICE DATE BUT NOT FOR THE 30,000 MILE BUMPER. I HAVE A FRIEND WHO ALSO IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE WITH HIS CHEVROLET TRAVERSE AND WISH THAT GM WOULD DO A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE SYSTEM BEFORE AN ACCIDENT OCCURS. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ, THERE HAS BEEN FAR TOO MANY COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER CONSUMERS CONCERNING THIS SAME POWER STEERING ISSUE. *TR
MY WIFE BOUGHT A NEW 2011 CHEVY TRAVERSE WHICH NOW HAS 78,572 MILES ON IT. THE POWER STERLING JUST FAILED ON IT YESTERDAY. I CHECKED THE FLUID LEVEL AND IT WAS OK. THE PUMP GROWLS WHEN TURNING AND IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN WHEN THE CAR IS IDLING. I DROVE IT TO CHURCH THIS MORNING AND ALMOST HIT A PARKED VEHICLE WHILE TRYING TO TURN INTO A PARKING SPOT. MY WIFE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO TURN THE VEHICLE IF SHE WERE DRIVING. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE SINCE THE PUMP FAILS WITH NO WARNING. I KNOW THIS WON'T BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, BUT IS THERE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM YET? *JS
THIS VEHICLE AND MANY OTHER GENERAL MOTORS CARS LIKE IT HAVE BEEN ON MANY POST AND FORUMS ON THE INTERNET AT LEAST IN THE HUNDREDS. I HAVE PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE USED AND THEREFORE THE DATE OF THE INCIDENTS ARE RECENT. I WOULD DESCRIBE THIS A DESIGN PROBLEM. IF THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED ON A SLIGHT INCLINE AND THE TRANSMISSION IS IN DRIVE AND YOU THEN TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO PROCEED (AS YOU WOULD DO WHEN STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT), THE CAR WILL ROLL BACKWARDS UNTIL THE GAS PEDAL IS DEPRESSED ENOUGH TO OVERCOME THE INCLINE. IF YOU ARE ON AN INCLINE (FACING DOWNHILL) IN REVERSE GEAR, THE CAR WILL ROLL FORWARD UNTIL THE GAS PEDAL IS DEPRESSED ENOUGH TO OVERCOME THE INCLINE. THIS REQUIRES THE DRIVER TO STEP ON THE BRAKE SO AS NOT TO ROLL WITH ONE FOOT AND DEPRESS THE GAS PEDAL WITH THE OTHER SO AS NOT TO ROLL. 2011 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE LT WAS FIRST TOLD AROUND APRIL 2014 FOLLOWING AN OIL CHANGE AT MY LOCAL GM CERTIFIED DEALER THAT THERE WAS A LEAK AROUND THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM (I CANNOT REMEMBER THE EXACT TERM USED). ANYWAY, THE SERVICE TECH SAID THAT IT WAS CLEARLY A SLOW LEAK AND NOT CAUSING ANY URGENT PROBLEMS, BUT THAT I SHOULD PAY ATTENTION TO IT SHOULD THINGS CHANGE. THE NEXT 2 OR 3 OIL CHANGES, THE SAME ISSUE WAS NOTED. DURING A ROUTINE OIL CAHNGE MAY 2105, I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A SEAL LEAK TO THE ENGINE OF SOME SORT BUT IT WAS 'WARRANTIED'. SO, I AUTHORIZED THE REPAIR, OF A LEAK THAT I NEVER NOTICED/HAD ISSUE WITH. FAST FORWARD TO JULY 2015 (68,000 +/- MILES) AND MY POWER STEERING IS LEAKING PUDDLES, THE RESIVOIR REMAINS FULL, AND SUDDENLY LOSE ALL POWER STEERING CAPABILITIES. CALL SAME GM DEALER I ALWAYS USE, AS I NOTICE ON THE UNRELATED REPAIR IN MAY, THE POWER STEERING COMPONENTS WERE MESSED WITH, FLUSHED, ETC. TO ALLOW FOR PROPER REPAIR OF OTHER ISSUE. MY ISSUE STARTED WHEN I WAS MAKING LEFT HAND TURNS IT WOULD SOUND LIKE THE ENGINE WOULD MAKE A LOUD NOISE WITH SOME GRINDING NOISE. THEN IT STARTED HAPPENING WITH RIGHT HAND TURNS AS WELL. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 19, 2014. ON FRIDAY MORNING, WHILE DRIVING TO WORK, MY CAR ACCELERATED AND THEN SLOWED DOWN; GOING FROM APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH TO 15 MPH. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY CALLED ME BACK AND SAID THE THROTTLE BODY HAD GONE BAD AND HAD TO BE REPLACE. SERVICE CENTER INDICATED A WHEEL CENSOR (FRONT RIGHT) WAS READING DEFECTIVE INFORMATION. THEY CLEANED 'DUST' FROM THE SENSOR. HAPPENED AGAIN ABOUT TWO WEEKS LATER, SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCES/RESULTS. WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY HEADING TO THE AIRPORT, WE WERE GOING APPROXIMATELY 60MPH.THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND TRUCK BEGAN TO POWER DOWN. THE TRACTION CONTROL/STABILI TRACK LIGHT ALSO CAME ON AND WE WERE LOSING SPEED AND COULD NOT ACCELERATE. WITH OTHER VEHICLES AROUND US WERE GOING 60MPH OR MORE WE HAD TO TRY AND GET OFF HIGHWAY TO SIDE OF ROAD BEFORE OUR TRUCK LOST POWER ALL TOGETHER. THREE DAYS LATER WE WERE BACK IN OUR TRUCK LEAVING THE AIRPORT HEADING HOME AND WITHIN 5 MINUTES OF BEING ON THE ROAD OUR TRUCK BEGAN TO POWER DOWN AGAIN, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STABILI TRACK LIGHT ALSO CAME ON. WE HAD TO AGAIN PULL OVER BUT THIS TIME AT LEAST 5 TIMES BEFORE WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME. IT WAS A VERY DANGEROUS AND SCARY ORDEAL. WE CONTACTED ATLANTIC CHEVY ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND WE BROUGHT TRUCK IN A WEEK LATER DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY SAID THEY DID NOT HAVE A LOANER VEHICLE AVAILABLE FOR US. WE WERE TOLD THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND WE WERE NOT COVERED SINCE WE WERE PAST OUR 3YR/36,000 MILES WARRANTY. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH, WE HAVE FOUND THAT WE ARE ONE OF MANY OTHER GM CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME SITUATION WITH THEIR VEHICLE POWERING DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. I WAS DRIVING AT 65 MPH, AND HIT A SMALL BUMP WHERE A BRIDGE ENDS AND THE PAVEMENT RESUMES. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL AS SERVICE STABILTRAK AND REDUCED ENGINE POWER INDICATORS. I WAS ABLE TO LIMP THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS, BUT AT A VERY REDUCED SPEED. THE DEALER FOUND THAT THE "THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR" TO BE FAULTY, AND AFTER REPLACING THAT ITEM THE VEHICLE RAN NORMALLY. THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE REPAIR COST WAS $540. I AM TOLD THAT THESE ARE A COMMON PROBLEM BOTH BY THE DEALER AS WELL AS BY AN INDEPENDENT SHOP. I AM SURPRISED THAT: 1. A PART SUCH AS THIS IS FAILING IN A VEHICLE WITH SO FEW MILES 2. THAT THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY TYPE OF WARRANTY. *TR
STABILITRAK AND TRACTION CONTROL ISSUES. CAR REDUCES ACCELERATION DURING LOW AND HIGHER SPEEDS OF DRIVING. VERY DANGEROUS TO MY FAMILY AND OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD TO HAVE A REDUCTION IN ACCELERATION WHILE TRAVELING DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. I HAVE NOTICED THIS HAS BECOME AN ISSUE WITH MANY OWNERS OF GM VEHICLES. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, MULTIPLE WARNINGS AND LIGHTS CAME ON AND SPEED WAS REDUCED BY THE ENGINE TO 20 MPH FROM 65MPH. IF THERE HAD BEEN ANOTHER VEHICLE BEHIND US AT THE TIME WE WOULD HAVE EASILY BEEN HIT BECAUSE OF THE RAPID DECELERATION. THE FIX WAS TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY ON THE ENGINE. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON ISSUE IN CHEVROLET VEHICLES, AND BECAUSE OF THE MANNER OF THE VEHICLE SLOWING DOWN SO RAPIDLY I FEAR THAT THERE HAVE PROBABLY ALREADY BEEN ACCIDENTS RELATED TO THIS ISSUE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND ATTEMPTING TO TURN RIGHT. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND I ALMOST WAS HIT BY A CAR GOING BECAUSE I WASN'T ABLE TO TURN INTO THE RIGHT HAND LANE. BECAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL BARELY MOVED, THE CAR INSTEAD OF MAKING THE RIGHT, ROMPED OVER ON THE DIVIDER.THIS HAPPENED 3 MORE TIMES BEFORE IT HAD TO BE TOWED. THIS HAPPENED WHEN CAR WAS LITERALLY JUST AT 37 MONTHS, ONE MONTH OUT OF THE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY. I ENDED UP PAYING A GREAT DEAL FOR THIS REPAIR. *TR
WHILE SITTING AT A STOP SIGN MY TRAVERSE WAS HIT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE BY THE TIRE AND FENDER. THE SIDE AIR BAG OR FRONT AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE THAT HIT MY TRAVERSE HAD AIRBAGS THAT DEPLOYED. MY WIFE WAS 4 MONTHS PREGNANT AND DIDN'T HAVE PROPER PROTECTION OF THE MULTIPLE AIRBAGS THIS VEHICLE HAS. SHE INJURED HER KNEE FROM BANGING INTO THE DASH BOARD AND CAUSED GREAT CONCERN ABOUT THE HEALTH OF OUR UNBORN CHILD. THE SAD PART IS NOW WE RECEIVE A LETTER THAT OUR CAR IS PART OF THE RECENT SIDE IMPACT AIR BAG RECALL ON THE CHEVROLET TRAVERSE. THE REASON WHY IT DIDN'T DEPLOY IN THE ACCIDENT IS BECAUSE OF WIRE ISSUES ON THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. UNSAFE AT ANY SPEED. *TR
VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED WHEN TRACTION CONTROL/STABILITRAK LIGHTS CAME ON AND ENGINE POWER WAS REDUCED. THE TRAVERSE SPEED DROPPED FROM 60 MPH TO 20 MPH IN JUST A FEW SECONDS ON THE INTERSTATE. WE WERE FORTUNATE THAT THERE WAS NOT A LARGE VEHICLE BEHIND US THAT WOULD HAVE MOWED RIGHT OVER MY FAMILY BEFORE THE VEHICLE WAS MOVED TO THE SHOULDER. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED AND THE PROBLEM HAS NOT RECURRED.
IT HAS TO DO WITH POWER TO THE ENGINE BEING REDUCED. IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME THREE TIMES. EACH TIME, I RECEIVED THREE ERROR MESSAGES ("TRACTION CONTROL OFF", "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL", "SERVICE STABILITRAK"), EACH TIME POWER REDUCED TO MY ENGINE, AND EACH TIME I PAID SUBSTANTIAL SUMS TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT FIXED, BUT EACH TIME IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THE FIRST TIME I PAID DEALER #1 ABOUT $150 (IF I RECALL CORRECTLY) TO HAVE THEM CLEAN CARBON FROM A SENSOR ON THE THROTTLE BODY (WHICH, COINCIDENTALLY, I'VE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS CAUSED BY "CARBON", ACCORDING TO THE DEALER #1). THE SECOND TIME, SAME THING, BUT PAID ONLY ABOUT $45 (TO DEALER #2 BECAUSE I WAS OUT OF TOWN). THE THIRD TIME, I PAID $600 FOR A COMPLETELY NEW THROTTLE BODY, INCLUDING ALL OF SUCH SENSORS, FROM DEALER #1. I AM NOT CONFIDENT THAT IT IS ANY SAFER NOW THAN IT WAS BEFORE, SINCE THE TRACK RECORD IS SO POOR (NEITHER OF THE PRIOR FIXES SOLVED THE PROBLEM). TWO OF THE THREE TIMES (TIME #1 IN JANUARY 2014, AND JUST NOW FOR #3 IN JANUARY 2015), I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED, AND FORTUNATELY THE CARS BEHIND ME WERE ABLE TO SWERVE AND AVOID REAR-ENDING ME AT THE LAST MINUTE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,000.
