Faulty sensor in the shifter assembly. This prevents the car from turning off and displays an error message “Shift To Park” This issue is recalled on models 2020 and newer but not 2019 which is an oversight and should be.
"Shift to Park" alarm continues to appear when the car is in park. At times it does not clear for 10 minutes or so. On a couple of occasions I could not get it to go away for 30 minutes. This is an issue that drains the battery and have caused me to remain in the car to start and restart the vehicle until it is no longer present. Which damages the starter.
I had 1 air conditioner stop blowing cool air and it was covered on the warranty. In 2023, my AC stopped working again and had to be replaced again. Recently, my AC went out again. All three times it stops blowing cool air. I only have $70k miles on it.
The Shifter Control Assembly keeps malfunctioning 3 times in the last 4 years on our 2019 Chevy Traverse. When my wife puts the shifter in Park and proceeds to shut down the vehicle, the Traverse will not recognizes that she is in park already, and will not let her shut off the vehicle. She must then reverse and forward the care several times until the sensor or solenoid engages and recognizes it is in park. This creates a dangerous and frustrating situaiton. The dealership has confirmed this is an ongoing inssue with the Traverse, and Chevy Customer service also confirmed on the phone that this is a weel known issue and she was not sure why they did not recall or take care of this issue already. Official problem is "Internal Failure to Shifter/Solenoid Assembly". This has caused issues 3 times and our vehicle is not even at 90K miles. This is not a wear ant tear part, but a core functional item that should not go bad repeatedly in such a short period of time on a newer vehicle. Chevy Customer care has encouraged me to file this complaint and get this on record and have the NHTSA begin to work with the manufacturer.
Chevy traverse 2019 second time tried breaking down on the highway. First incident engine light came on. The vehicle slowed down and would shake pushing on the gas pedal. The moment the car arrived at the destination is stop working. Second incident it stop on the highway and would go on drive or reverse. Had to stop the car and turn it back on while on the freeway. The car drove for 1 hour then when the car stop at the stop light it had a hard time driving had to push all the way just to get it drive slow. It had a hard time moving but it tried. The emission warning would come on but then would disappear. The vehicle never received a recall.
When putting the vehicle in park I have to keep moving the shift handle back and forth to put it in park and the ac keep leaking Freon under the dash board a bad smell come into the vehicle make me dizzy
When placing the Traverse in park the car will not shut off and warns that the car is NOT in park while other indicators show that it actually is in park. Confusing and worried that it is not in park and that the car con not be safely shut off. Flipping the shift knob and button numerous times has, so far, finally allowed the car to shut off safely.
Transmission continually failing. Judders under acceleration. Metal in transmission fluid and leak in transmission
Shift to park and warming beep saying vehicle not in park also a bad smell coming from vents when start the engine makes me dizzy and also paid over $600 for repairs to AC still not fix Freon leaks .
My 2019 Chevrolet Traverse when putting my car in park to turn off the vehicle. The dashboard is telling me to put my car in park when it is already in park. Then the car doesn’t shut off completely and it kills the battery. The parking assist is a safety issue. If in fact my vehicle isn’t noticing the car is in park then it’s a safety concern. This needs to be addressed before someone gets hurt.
I have a Chevy Traverse. When I shift into park. There is a display that reads " shift to park" It takes a while for that to disappear. It seems like it is getting worst. How can that be fixed?
Check Engine Light Code P0496 evap. Emissions system, high purge flow
When accelerating car shuddered between 15- 30mph and then sometimes between 40 and 55mph. Also, issues with vehicle alert "shift to park" when vehicle is in park.
The vehicle is having issues recognizing when I shift it to park. It is dangerous because I don't know if it is really in park or not. There was a warning saying : "action required shift to park " when I already shifted it
2019 Chevy Traverse. The vehicle suddenly began not shifting properly while traveling on the freeway. Check engine light came on. Took vehicle to a transmission repair shop in the area we were in. The vehicle had 57,833 miles at the time of drop off to repair shop. Upon inspection by shop, stated the transmission needed to be replaced and cannot be repaired.
When I shift the car to park and press button to turn car off, I am alerted "Shift to Park". The shift lever or gear control is not recognizing that I have already put the car in park. I have to repeatedly push on the gear shifter until the alert clears and the car engages in park. This issue happens quite often and is an inconvenience.
Received a warning on my dashboard when trying to turn off vehicle that vehicle was not in park. The vehicle however was in park. Vehicle would not turn completely off. Had to keep turning vehicle on and messing with shifting, turning it back off until it finally recognize it was in park. Have not taken it to a shop yet.

The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was advised that the switch on the shift mechanism and wiring harness were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 48,000.
Shift to Park message on the dash when attempting to turn the vehicle off (in park). Known issue for GM vehicles and safety issue because you can't turn the vehicle off or lock it and it continues to get progressively worse to the point you can't leave the vehicle, and I am getting worried the vehicle may not actually be in park. This is a known issue that costs around 1000 to fix and should have been corrected when it was discovered years ago to prevent issues with the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while his wife was attempting to turn off the vehicle, the vehicle failed to turn off. The message "Shift to Park" was displayed on the screen. The vehicle was left running for thirty minutes before the contact's wife was able to turn off the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
When turning off the vehicle, a message appears on the console 'shift to park' even though the vehicle is already in park. This happens many times over and restarting and shifting again doesn't seem to help alleviate the issue. An increase in the frequency of these events has caused concern. According to research, it's happened to many people who own our make and model.
Car is constantly getting the shirt to park error message when the car is in park. The car’s lights and other electrical panels on the inside will not shut off because of this issue.
This vehicle reports a "Shift to Park" error message when parking the car. The gearshift is in the parked position but the sensor if not responding correctly. The alarm continues to buzz and we are unable to turn the car off and exit the vehicle. We must continue to "wiggle" the gear shift and even drive around the block and try to park again to have this message stop. Very afraid that the car is not recognizing the "parked" position and will move even though we think it is parked. We understand that this has been an issue with Chevrolet since 2017 and no recall has been issued. PLEASE help.
The front passenger seat belt does not work. I dont have anyone in the front passenger seat. When I did the seatbelt did not lock.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that the stabili-trak warning light was previously intermittently illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that upon coming to a stop, the vehicle jolted back and forth. The contact stated that upon shifting to reverse(R), the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated that upon shifting to drive(D), the vehicle jerked while responding. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the contact was advised that there was an oil leak, but the source of the leak was undetermined. Additionally, the mechanic informed the contact that the failure was related to the transmission. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that there would be a charge for the transmission disassembly and replacement. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V668000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.
When I shift into park the vehicle is fully stopped and in park, but after I shut the vehicle off it beeps and the dashboard informs me I need to “shift to park”. The vehicle will continue to beep and won’t lock properly until I mess with the shifter enough to get it to register that I’m in park, sometimes taking minutes and multiple restarts. This seems to be a common issue in this vehicle based on a simple Google search, which tells me this is a manufacturer issue and should be recalled. I’m worried the whole shifter is going to malfunction. This is a safety issue and has caused me to almost be late in many instances because I can’t leave my vehicle.
Car showing that car is not in park and constantly kills battery. Shift to park warning, antilock brake warning, parking brake warning, and forward collision warning continue to come on. Dealer says now partially covered under extended warranty after deductible, but battery needs replacement for $375.
When I park, the shift to park warning comes on and the vehicle will not shut down.
On this 3 row SUV, the middle row has a bench seat vs captain seats in some models. In order to let passengers in the 3rd row, you must lean the middle row end seats up. When doing this from the left side of the vehicle, the middle seat in the middle row's seatbelt buckle falls back a little. So then when you lean the seat back after leaning it forward to let passengers in the 3rd row, the buckle gets caught up and over time, internal mechanisms inside the buckle break to where you can not fasten the seatbelt into the buckle any more. This happened while we were in a trip and had no choice but to ride back home with one passenger who didn't have a seatbelt to wear.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle and shifting to reverse(R), the vehicle made an abnormal, loud clunking sound. The contact stated that while driving at 15 MPH, the vehicle failed to shift out of first gear, and the engine was revving. The vehicle was towed to T&T Automotive, where it was diagnosed that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall. Additionally, the contact stated that upon shifting to park(P) and attempting to turn off the vehicle, the message "Shift to Park" was displayed. The vehicle was taken back to the mechanic, where the failure was related to an unknown TSB. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000.
2019 Chevrolet Traverse shows a message saying it's not in park even when the shifter is in the park position and the truck won't shut off. Shift to park issue.
Frequently receive warning message “Shift to Park” while the car is already at a complete parked state. You have to engage brake and wiggle the shifter to allow car to shut off. Another issue, the car display comes on and the car alarm beeps regarding the Stabilitrak. This happens on colder days usually below 40 degrees. Dealership wants $200+ to evaluate but states common concern they receive.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to Auto Zone, who determined that the canister purge valve needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The power train on 2019 Chevy Traverses are horrible! There was a recall back in 2023 that caused me to get a replacement transmission. It hasn’t even been a full 2 years and the transmission is out AGAIN! Even with recent safety issues for the emissions purge valve and transmission defects on these cars, NO ONE HAS INITIATED ANOTHER RECALL FOR THE POWER TRAIN SYSTEM. This is frustrating, inconveniencing, and infuriating. I hope GM makes this right!
When I shift into park and try to turn car off, I get a warning message saying shift into park. It takes several retry attempts to get car computer to register it is in park. I can't leave car until it stops this for fear of it rolling or running battery down. There are recalls for this for years before/after 2019, but not 2019. Wondering why this is. Was at dealer before for this and they couldn't find problem. Going in again next week.
GM has a TSB # N212356540 for one exhaust pipe. Bracket broken a causes hole in pipe. Weld was bad. Mine was bad on both pipes and only one covered by GM, this led to catalytic converter cracking and flex pipe leaking. I had to pay to have repaired. This second pipe and catalytic converter were not covered
Transmission issues Vehicle drives forward when in reverse Vehicle will no go into reverse Vehicle will not drive or go into reverse
Evaporation system is defective and the canister purge valve does not close completely resulting in environmental toxicities put into the air. A check engine light on and after 3 fixes the issue is still present
UNKNOWN. Vehicle started shuddering while driving. No accident occurred. I was able to keep it under control.
Periodically over the last 2 weeks my 2019 Chevrolet Traverse AWD has shown the "Shift to Park" message on the display. I took it to my local Chevy dealer about a week ago, after I was in the Walmart parking lot and it happened again. The dealer scheduled an appointment to check the part number yesterday. When I went to leave my car at the dealer's lot on New Year's Day for the scheduled appointment, I couldn't get the vehicle to shut down at all. I tried driving around the building and lot for about 10 minutes and tried to park in different level spots. I finally gave up and left it in a position that I figured they would be able to charge the vehicle, because a warning buzzer goes off as long as the "Shift to Park" message displays. I worried leaving the vehicle in the dealer's lot, not knowing for sure if the car would roll away into their new cars, because it might not be in park. There are numerous similar complaints on your website about the "Shift to Park" problem. Not sure why no one thinks this problem is bad enough for a recall. (Of course, my vehicle is under 36,000 miles, but over the 3 year warranty.) I am a 72 year-old woman and our area is in the midst of a frigid winter storm...not the time that I want to worry about whether my battery has been drained or whether I can safely park my vehicle, when I go to the grocery store.
In 2020 or 2021 my car started annoying not recording that is was shifted into park. I got it fixed in Spring, Tx. Recently, my vehicle has started saying it needs to be shifted into park every single time I try to park. This really should be covered under power train warranty. Actually it should be recalled because it is all over the message boards.
Oil consumption issues
When I push the button to turn off vehicle it dings and says shift to park. I cannot stop it from doing it. One day my vehicle did it for 45 minutes. I could not do anything lock my door anything this is a hazard what if I was out of town and someone tried to steal my car because it would not stop doing this. I see on social media this is happening to a lot of 2019 chevy traverse owners.
I took my truck to the dealer back in 2022 for the specific reasons that the truck is being recalled now but my vehicle doesn’t qualify for the recalls. My vehicle has been having the same issues as the 2019 Chevy traverse recalls and I just saw that my truck is also leaking transmission oil which is linked to the 2019 recall but my truck doesn’t qualify. It started smelling like it was burning during the freeway drive today and when I got home, I noticed the oil leak I drive around 15 to 20 miles a day driving six children in my truck for safety and my truck is no longer safe to drive. I want to know why when I took my car in 2022 for the specific issues. They told me that it was pretty much all in my head that my truck was running fine and now I come to find out there are these recalls in effect, but my truck doesn’t qualify when the check engine light is on in my car for the specific reasons. I did contact the dealer where I took my truck in 2022 and they do have the paperwork to prove that I took my car and they told me someone would call me back to see what was going on. This was four days ago and nothing has happened and they also didn’t email me the paperwork like they told me they would.
Shift to park
I keep having emission problems. The first time I took it to the dealership they fixed then it messed up again had that fixed about three months later check engine light was on again same thing had it fixed for the third time check engine light went off and of course came back home had to fix it again it’s off for now. I’m just waiting for it to pop back on. Second problem that I’ve been having is the fuel pressure sensor changed it light went off now it’s back on. They say change the fuel pump just to see. Did that check engine light back on? When is the check engine light gonna go off another problem that I’ve been having shift to park that pops up every so often at this point, I do not recommend Chevy traverses too many problems and nobody fixing them
Veh continues to display service stabilitrak when coming out of auto stop at a light or stop. Service restraint likely keeps coming on unable to buckle seat belts sometime seat get stuck when moving forward or backwards on driver side Shift to park light keeps coming on Service parking break is coming in as well for no apparent reason
Torque converter is bad. Codes will not come up when test ran. Mechanics mis diagnose the issue until it’s too late. Mechanic now doesn’t think it’s worth it to replace- wants whole new transmission.
I have had to replace my evaporative emissions purge valve 3 times on this my 2019 Chevy Traverse. I have had it for a year and a half.
Once shifting the car in park the car won’t shut off. It keeps stating “Shift to Park” the car has already been shifted to park. I have to shift my car over and over again to get it to cut off. Also when driving it keeps stating something about the track system.
