Vehicle: 2019 Chevrolet Traverse Issue: “Shift to Park” warning – vehicle fails to recognize it is in Park I am filing a complaint regarding a persistent &dangerous defect with my 2019 Chevrolet Traverse involving the “Shift to Park” warning system. For the past several years, my vehicle has repeatedly failed to recognize that it is in Park, even when it clearly is. This issue has escalated into a serious safety and reliability concern. Most recently, I was stranded in a store parking lot for over two hours because my vehicle would not properly shut off or restart due to the false “Shift to Park” warning. I had to call someone to disconnect the battery to prevent it from draining completely, which caused additional cost and inconvenience. After reconnecting the battery, the vehicle still would not start for another 2hours. This defect leaves me at risk of being stranded at any time, including in unsafe or isolated. As a single parent of 4 young children, this creates a significant safety concern for my family. This problem has been ongoing since Oct 2023 and has occurred repeatedly since then, and consistently every month since then, often four or more times per month. I have brought this issue to a Chevrolet dealership, Reed-Lallier Chevrolet in Fayetteville, NC, multiple times. Despite being charged diagnostic fees, no permanent fix has been provided. This is a known issue with this vehicle model related to a faulty shifter assembly or park detection system. This defect impacts the vehicle’s ability to shut off, restart, & function reliably, creating a serious safety hazard. I am requesting that this issue be formally investigated & that appropriate action be taken to require a recall or manufacturer-covered repair. This problem is widespread among similar vehicles & should not continue to leave drivers stranded or at risk. Mileage: 44,410 miles Dates of occurrences: Oct 2023-present Dealer contacted: Reed-Lallier Chevrolet on Raeford rd Fayetteville NC
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated while attempting to turn off the vehicle, the Auto START/STOP system failed to turn off as intended. The contact stated that the engine was running. The message "STAND/PARK" was displayed on the instrument panel, and the warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed. The contact was unaware of the diagnosis. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a claim was filed. The failure mileage was unknown.
Shift to park notice. For several months the shifter has had issues going into park. The shifter is in the park position but isnt reading. I know a few other people with similar Traverse models in my area having the same issue. Im also aware that some models of GM SUV have already recalled this part. After having to wait over 5 minutes multiple times for the car to recognize that its in the park position I decided to get this replaced. This is an issue I believe a recall should be noticed and I should be reimbursed for the parts and labor of this
Transmission went out does not move at all with only 49,000 miles on the car the car always had sifting problems. Brought the car brand new off the lot. One owner. Before the Transmission went out when I will stop at the red lights or stop signs the car would just take off for no reason. With my foot still on the brakes or the car would just stall when I am driving it right in the middle of traffic. GMC needs to held accountable before some one gets killed.
Shift to park error, car will not go into park. A well known GM issue that apparently has yet to be recalled.
My shift to park didn’t stop alarming and drained my battery so badly that I was stranded for 4.5hrs and I had to replace it and the alternator!
Faulty sensor in the shifter assembly. This prevents the car from turning off and displays an error message “Shift To Park” This issue is recalled on models 2020 and newer but not 2019 which is an oversight and should be.
This vehicle reports a "Shift to Park" error message when parking the car. The gearshift is in the parked position but the sensor if not responding correctly. The alarm continues to buzz and we are unable to turn the car off and exit the vehicle. We must continue to "wiggle" the gear shift and even drive around the block and try to park again to have this message stop. Very afraid that the car is not recognizing the "parked" position and will move even though we think it is parked. We understand that this has been an issue with Chevrolet since 2017 and no recall has been issued. PLEASE help.
Car showing that car is not in park and constantly kills battery. Shift to park warning, antilock brake warning, parking brake warning, and forward collision warning continue to come on. Dealer says now partially covered under extended warranty after deductible, but battery needs replacement for $375.
When I push the button to turn off vehicle it dings and says shift to park. I cannot stop it from doing it. One day my vehicle did it for 45 minutes. I could not do anything lock my door anything this is a hazard what if I was out of town and someone tried to steal my car because it would not stop doing this. I see on social media this is happening to a lot of 2019 chevy traverse owners.
I took my truck to the dealer back in 2022 for the specific reasons that the truck is being recalled now but my vehicle doesn’t qualify for the recalls. My vehicle has been having the same issues as the 2019 Chevy traverse recalls and I just saw that my truck is also leaking transmission oil which is linked to the 2019 recall but my truck doesn’t qualify. It started smelling like it was burning during the freeway drive today and when I got home, I noticed the oil leak I drive around 15 to 20 miles a day driving six children in my truck for safety and my truck is no longer safe to drive. I want to know why when I took my car in 2022 for the specific issues. They told me that it was pretty much all in my head that my truck was running fine and now I come to find out there are these recalls in effect, but my truck doesn’t qualify when the check engine light is on in my car for the specific reasons. I did contact the dealer where I took my truck in 2022 and they do have the paperwork to prove that I took my car and they told me someone would call me back to see what was going on. This was four days ago and nothing has happened and they also didn’t email me the paperwork like they told me they would.
Veh continues to display service stabilitrak when coming out of auto stop at a light or stop. Service restraint likely keeps coming on unable to buckle seat belts sometime seat get stuck when moving forward or backwards on driver side Shift to park light keeps coming on Service parking break is coming in as well for no apparent reason
The transmission keeps stalling when the auto engine turn off comes on and I try to hit the gas. The transmission end cap had to be replaced. Then the shift to break kept going off when I was in park.
Shift to park message will not go away.
When shifting into park I get a message on my dash to shift into park and the car will not shutoff. I have to jiggle the shifter knob a few times for it to shutoff again and again. It's a real problem and should have a recall on it.
When putting car in park, it continues to show a shift to park error message and will not power down all the way. I have to restart the car and shift in and out of park several times before the car will shut off. Often times when stopping at lights/stop signs the car will shift super hard and jerk into gear when trying to start moving again. This occasionally happens when it should be shifting going up hills as well.
Check engine light keeps coming on for a small evap leak. When putting car in Park and turning car off, warning message comes up saying Shift to Park so I have to wiggle the shifter until the message goes away. Tailgate some times does not close when pushing the tailgate button. Remote start does not always work.
After putting the vehicle in park a error message appears indicating vehicle is not in park and the gear shift must be wiggled back and forth to remove the message.
When car is shifted into park and then push to start/stop is pressed to turn off car “ shift to park” appears and shift must be wiggled for message to go away. Problem has just started in the last month (May 2024).
When in park, "Shift to Park" continues to alert causing trouble turning off the engine. I've read this is common among the 2019 Traverse and many have been recalled, but my specific VIN has not. Can you help so I can get this fixed?
