This page combines three types of NHTSA data: recall campaigns (official manufacturer or government actions), owner complaints (unverified consumer reports), and crash test ratings (where available). A vehicle with many complaints is not necessarily less reliable — complaint volume correlates with sales volume and vehicle age. Recalls indicate identified defects, not overall quality. Safety Features
Since brand new the electronics have been defective. The lane keep assist has to be turned off during slippery road conditions because the computer jerks the steering wheel during normal driving where white road markings, such as merging lanes are present. During highway speeds on slippery snow or ice it nearly sends the vehicle into a dangerous maneuver. The backup camera was defective intermittently since it was new and was unable to be corrected by the dealer shop during its first new vehicle service. The rear camera has now gone completely out which is standard safety equipment. A dealership has ordered a new backup camera part. The transmission jerks and lurches. Odd shifting is normal for this vehicle which could lead to transmission failures which could lead to a collision.
Came out to my new 2025 Chevy Trax with Stabilitrac and Antilock Braking System faults on the dash on March 27, 2026. I immediately contacted the dealer I bought it from since it only has around 3200 miles and made an appointment (4/1/26) to bring the vehicle in. They inspected the vehicle and told me the brake master cylinder is bad and they would have to keep the vehicle since it could fail completely and I would be without brakes thus unsafe to drive. I was also told was the part was on back order and no ETA on when the part would be made available. They have had the vehicle since April 1st, I was given a loaner from the dealer after having expressed my displeasure that GM would not fully cover the cost of a rental vehicle while I wait on a critical part of the failing braking system that they are failing to provide their dealer. Luckily the braking system never failed prior to diagnosis.
Parked vehicle fire that happened approximately 8-9 hours after parking it. Neighbors woke me up at 4:30am after hearing a loud boom. When i went outside the whole front end was engulfed in flames. Fire investigators said it started in the engine compartment and moved to the inside of the vehicle. No foul play suspected. There were no warning signs leading up to this. I kept up with all maintenance and had no aftermarket additions. Luckily no one was injured but if i had been inside the vehicle when it happened the electric locks likely wouldn't have worked and I'd have little time to evacuate. The heat damaged a neighbors car. I read that recently there was a lawsuit being filed in Delaware involving my type of vehicle. Im currently dealing with GM and trying to get reimbursed because my vehicle was still under warranty. Total loss. Im trying to preserve vehicle for inspection however it is in my apartment complex parking lot and they would like it removed.

The windows will not go down !!! It’s a safety issue as well as the car is fully shut down and the system will not shut off.. I have removed the keys opened the doors locked the doors everything is still on besides the engine. I tried restarting the car and turning off again it will not shut down ! Everything is still on! The main safety concern is the WINDOWS !!!!
The contact owns a 2025 Chevrolet Trax. The contact stated that while driving 70 MPH, the rear window on the driver’s side, where the contact’s sister was seated, shattered unexpectedly, causing glass to fall inside and outside the vehicle. Neither an independent mechanic nor a dealer was contacted. The passenger seated in the seat nearest to the window was not injured. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic to be repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there would not be an investigation if the vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 7,020.
While driving on the highway the car lost complete power. I could not even turn on my hazards. After a few minutes, the car made a sound and the screen turned back and I was able to turn the car back on. But it was extremely dangerous and I could have been hurt of killed. I have read this was an issue with the 2024 Trax but it appears this is an ongoing issue.
I was in car accident on 1/16/2026. I was rear ended went into the guard rail then into the vehicle in front of me. My air bags didn't deploy.
Dashboard screen and video screen have randomly "blacked out" multiple times. Pairing with I-phone and android randomly stops working, wifi and bluetooth randomly not working. It happened on day of purchase and was supposedly fixed. About I month ago I had regular service and has frequently occurred since then. Brought it in today, they couldn't fix and said they needed to call Chevy engineer team. Was told car not safe to drive, was given a loaner/rental.
My check engine light went on and stayed on while I was driving. I called Blaise Alexander, Altoona, Pa. reported and scheduled a checkup on Dec. 11. I drove to the garage, arriving at 10am. and noticed a smell of fire and saw smoke billowing out around the hood of the car. I ran into service area and told them the car must be on fire. They called the Altoona Fire Dept. The police gave me a number, which I gave State Farm Insurance. I drove approximately 23 miles along Rt I 99 to reach the garage. Apparently there is a history of 2024 and 2025 Trax models having fires in the engine. Possibly associated with the fuel system.
The first problem began at approximately 5,000 miles. After refueling, the vehicle’s transmission would slip severely. The slipping continued to occur intermittently after that point. I brought the vehicle to a dealership Initially, I was told that nothing was wrong with the vehicle. After further testing, the dealership identified a transmission issue related to Technical Service Bulletin 25-NA-211 and stated that the repair was completed. At approximately 8,000 miles, an additional issue occurred where the check engine light illuminated and a warning appeared indicating that the brakes had stopped working. This was extremely concerning and created a serious safety risk. Following the transmission repair, a new and more dangerous issue developed. The vehicle now fails to accelerate properly from a complete stop. When attempting to accelerate, it becomes stuck at approximately 1 mph for around 45 seconds before finally moving. This happens intermittently and creates a high risk of collision when entering traffic or crossing intersections. These issues—transmission slipping, brake warning alerts, and failure to accelerate—pose a serious safety hazard to myself and others on the road. The vehicle has been taken in for service, but the problems have not been fully resolved. I am requesting that this issue be investigated as a potential defect affecting this vehicle.
While driving at highway speed approximately 70 mph), the vehicle suddenly veered into an adjacent lane without any steering input and began swerving back and forth uncontrollably. I did not make any steering corrections that caused this behavior. After approximately 10 seconds of back-and-forth swerving, the vehicle straightened out on its own. No collision occurred, but the incident felt life-threatening. I’m grateful no vehicle was driving next to me, or I would have likely died or been severely injured in a car crash. It was terrifying. Note: this was a rental car through Avis
The contact owns a 2025 Chevrolet Trax. The contact stated that the driver’s side seat belt failed to function as intended. The contact stated that several months prior, the driver’s side seat belt failed to lock securely inside the buckle. After several attempts, the seat belt failed to lock as needed. On a separate occasion, the seat belt failed to lock into the driver’s side buckle and the contact used the front passenger receptacle to secure the seat belt. The seat belt alarm was sounding. The contact stated that the failure occurred in colder weather. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000.
The contact owns a 2025 Chevrolet Trax. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission warning light illuminated. The dealer was made aware of the failure; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 139.
I am reporting a safety concern involving my 2025 Chevrolet Trax 2RS (VIN: [XXX] ). After a service visit at AutoNation Chevrolet Spokane Valley concerning all the following issues on October 31, 2025 (Repair Order #XXX), the Lane Keep Assist system stopped functioning entirely after that being the main concern I was going into the dealership to get resolved once it tried to automatically steer me into the other lane at 60mph almost causing a life threatening collision. Prior to the visit, the system worked but was malfunctioning— the dashboard displayed the green lane symbol, and the activation button engaged the feature. After service, the symbol no longer appears, and the button lights up but does not activate the system. This change was not authorized, not documented in the repair order, and was never disclosed to me. I believe the Lane Keep Assist system was intentionally disabled or tampered with during service, which poses a serious safety risk. I am also experiencing other unresolved issues including engine ticking, dashboard brightness malfunction, infotainment freezing, and transmission hesitation. I am requesting a formal investigation into whether this dealership improperly disabled a federally regulated safety feature without consent or disclosure. See attached document for complaint.
I began experiencing multiple mechanical and safety-related issues within the first few hundred miles of ownership. These include a persistent metallic ticking noise from the engine compartment, sluggish acceleration, infotainment screen freezing and Bluetooth malfunction, Lane Keep Assist attempting to steer the vehicle into another lane at highway speeds, and a non-responsive brightness knob. These issues pose safety risks and match known GM bulletins (e.g., 23-NA-094, 24-NA-242, 24-NA-063, PIT6362). I’ve scheduled my first service appointment for October 31, 2025, and installed a dash cam to document future incidents. I am concerned about the vehicle’s reliability and safety.
Blind spot indicator, as well as radio and gauge display are acting less than appropriate Blind spot indicator/Driver side: engaging without any presence of caution Radio and gauge displays: turning back on after vehicle has shut off Forward crash collision detection intermittently functions less than equal- has failed in heavy traffic upon forward cars braking, leading to the need to hard-brake.
On [xxx] My cousin, [XXX] , and I were on highway [XXX] and were about to exit when an ambulance exited onto the highway ahead causing the traffic to suddenly stop. As it stopped, I hit my brake, which usually jolts when I hit it but it didn't this time, the brake didn't feel the same it felt like my car wasn't stopping. The warning that usually goes off didn't go off either. My car hit a Jeep that was in front of me at a speed of about 55 to 60 mph yet none of my airbags diployed. We smelled fire and saw some smoke but couldn't see over the hood that had been bent up, both of our seatbealts had been stretched out so that when we took them off, we could not put them back on, and the adjuster I had on my seatbealt to keep it off my shoulder completely broke off. I pull over as far as I could safely since I couldn't see. The driver of the Jeep got out of her car and inspected it, she came back to the passenger side of my car and said that she was in a rental, there was no damage and couldn't afford to turn in accident in so she had to leave, and left the scene. Both my cousin and I were feeling pain in our chest so when 1st responder came, he called for an ambulance. We were both taken to Eskenazi ER where my cousin was treated and released the same day. I was admitted into the hospital ICU and had emergency spinal cord surgery on [XXX] and wasn't released until [XXX]. After the accident, I saw a few messages that were sent to my GMC account inbox dated October 8, 2025 saying that my airbags may need to be serviced, after the accident happened. On October 8, 2025 My cousin, [XXX] , and I were on highway Mile 113, 65 North and were about to exit when an ambulance exited onto the highway ahead causing the traffic to suddenly stop. As the traffic stopped, I hit my brake, which usually jolts when I hit it but it didn't this time, the brake didn't feel the same, the brake was soft and it felt like my car wasn't stopping. The warning red light that usually goes off didn't and I hit a Jeep at a speed of about 55 to 60 mph yet none of my airbags diployed. We smelled fire and saw some smoke come in from the vents but couldn't see over the hood that had been bent up, both of our seatbealts had been stretched out so that when we took them off, we could not put them back on, and the adjuster I had on my seatbealt to keep it off my shoulder completely broke off. My car was towed and we were both taken to Eskenazi ER where my cousin was treated and released the same day. I was admitted into the hospital ICU and had emergency cervical fusion spinal cord surgery on October 9, 2025 and wasn't released until October 17, 2025 with ongoing treatment for therapy and loss of mobility of my right arm which is due to nerve damage and abdomen bruising, I am still recovering and have ongoing treatments for my spine. I noticed the alarm didn't sound when it should have times before but since nothing was said about any problem when I took my car in for service in September, I didn't think that there would be an issue like this. A police report was made but I do not have a copy yet. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
