DIAGNOSTIC SHOWS MISFIRE IN CYLINDER 8. VEHICLE HAS 123,000 MILES ON IT. I AM TOLD IT IS A LIFTER OR CAM AND THAT I NEED A NEW ENGINE. THIS VEHICLE IS 7 YEARS OLD AND HAS BEEN MAINTAINED. AFTER READING REVIEWS THE HEMI ENGINE IS KNOWN TO BREAK DOWN. THE ESTIMATED COST FOR A NEW ENGINE APPROXIMATELY $ 7,000. VEHICLE ALL OF A SUDDEN IDLED VERY ROUGH TOOK IN AND MAJOR WORK NEEDED TO BE DONE. WISH CHRYSLER WOULD BACK THEIR VEHICLE.
COMING TO STOP ON CITY STREET ENGINE SHUT OFF AND WAS ABLE TO TURN ENGINE ON AFTER PUTTING IN PARK. AFTER INSPECTION NOTED ENGINE OIL AT ENGINE OIL FILTER ADAPTER HOUSING BASE AND LEAKING ONTO LOWER OIL PAN, DRIVE PULLEYS, AROUND ALTERNATOR NOTED OIL RESIDUE
THE LIFTERS IN THE CAR ARE TICKING AND STICKING. DEALER QUOTED $3500 TO REPAIR. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR 3 MONTHS.

THE CONTACT WAS AWARE OF AN UNKNOWN TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

HAD ENTERED A SIDE-STREET OFF BEDFORD ST IN LEXINGTON MA (MA 4/225) AT ABOUT 10 A.M. AND WAS STOPPED, WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING AND IN DRIVE, BY A LINE OF TRAFFIC AHEAD OF ME. WHILE IDLING, THERE WAS A LOUD SOUND AND A JOLT FELT IN THE CAR, BUT THE ENGINE WAS STILL IDLING. THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY HAD "AWD SERVICE" AND THEN ANOTHER WORD WHICH I DON'T RECALL. WHEN I WENT TO PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN PARK, I FOUND THE HANDLE SHIFTER ALREADY SHOWED "P" AND SO DID THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY. WHEN I TRIED TO CHANGE THE SETTING WITH THE HANDLE SHIFTER, PULLING TOWARD "D" DID NOTHING (STILL SHOWED "P") AND PUSHING FORWARD PRODUCED A MESSAGE ON THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION ALREADY BEING IN THE SELECTED POSITION. TURNING OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTING IT (WHICH PROCEEDED NORMALLY) AND RETRYING TO CHANGE THE SHIFT POSITION RESULTED IN THE SAME BEHAVIOR (I.E., NO CHANGE TRYING TO MOVE TO "D" AND THE MESSAGE IN THE DISPLAY ABOUT ALREADY BEING IN THE SELECTED POSITION). HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TAKEN ON THE BED OF A TOW TRUCK TO MY LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER. (AS THE TRANSMISSION APPEARED TO BE IN PARK, THAT ENTAILED DRAGGING THE CAR ONTO THE BED OF THE TOW TRUCK AND THEN "BOUNCING" IT OFF THE BED AT THE DEALER. LAST ADVICE I HAVE BEEN PROVIDED BY THE DEALER (WAS TODAY) IS THAT THEY ARE AWAITING ADVICE BACK FROM CHRYSLER ABOUT A NEW TRANSMISSION. NOTE: EXTRAORDINARILY LUCKY THAT I WAS STOPPED ON A SIDE STREET IN THE RIGHT-MOST OF THE TWO LANES WHEN THIS CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OCCURRED. ALTERNATOR WENT OUT, CAR WENT INTO BATTERY SAVER MODE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. INITIALLY I WAS TOLD THAT THE BATTERY WAS BAD/WEAK. CHANGED IT OUT, AND AFTER 2 MONTHS I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. THERE IS AN OBVIOUS PROBLEM WITH CHRYSLER'S SUPPLIER FOR THESE ALTERNATORS. MY ENGINE LIGHT HAS TURNED ON AND THE READING SAYS IT'S CYLINDER #2 MISFIRE. IT CAME OUT OF NO WHERE AND FROM WHAT I'VE SEEN AND HEARD IT IS A COMMON ISSUE. MY CAR IS BASICALLY BRAND NEW AND VERY WELL TAKEN CARE OF BUT IT HAS NEEDED EVERY RECALL AND FOR SOME REASON SOMETHING THIS SERIOUS AND COMMON IS NOT COVERED. IT SHAKES WHILE IT IDLES IT'S NOT RUNNING GREAT AND THIS COULD BRING ON MANY MORE PROBLEMS.

I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL IN JAN 2015 CONCERNING THE ALTERNATOR. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP 8 TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF THE LAST YEAR AND THEY KEEP TELLING ME I AM ON THE LIST AND THEY WILL GET TO ME. WE ARE NOW GOING ON 14 MONTHS AND NO ACTION. ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO ACCELERATE FROM 60MPH, TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE ACCELERATOR WAS DEPRESSED AND THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY SLOWED, RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE'S SPEED BEING REDUCED TO A CRAWL CAUSING POTENTIAL HARM FROM APPROACHING VEHICULAR TRAFFIC. VEHICLE WAS NOT ABLE TO RESUME SPEED FOR SEVERAL SECONDS EVEN WHILE THE ACCELERATOR WAS BEING DEPRESSED. THERE WERE SEVERAL CLOSE ENCOUNTERS WITH APPROACHING TRAFFIC UNTIL THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESUME SPEED. THIS OCCURRED FOLLOWING A VISIT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO DESCRIBE PRIOR INCIDENTS.
