I WAS PUTTING GAS IN THE CAR AND ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE GAS IF SHOOTING BACK ON ME. I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK AND HAD TO GO HOME AND CHANGE BECAUSE I HAD GAS ALL OVER ME, THE CAR AND THE GROUND. I DON'T HAVE MONEY TO DRY CLEAN MY CLOTHING. IT IS ALSO A HAZARD AND I AM NOT PLEASED AT ALL. *TR
THE CAR WAS IDLING WHILE WAITING TO FOLLOW ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CAR WAS THEN PUT INTO DRIVE, AT WHICH POINT ALL ELECTRICAL FUNCTION CEASED WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE RADIO, WHICH WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. THE ENGINE ALSO STOPPED RUNNING. FORTUNATELY WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR STARTED AGAIN. I BELIEVE THIS IS RELATED TO THE RECALL ACTION INITIATED FOR DEFECTIVE IGNITION SWITCH. IN SEPTEMBER, I HAD STOPPED FOR GAS AND WHEN I GOT BACK IN THE CAR TO START IT, THE IGNITION SWITCH WOULD NOT MOVE, AS THOUGH I HAD AN INCORRECT KEY. AGAIN, SOMEHOW ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER THE KEY TURNED. THERE IS A DANGEROUS ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION OCCURRING IN THIS VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHRYSLER ASPEN 4X2. AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE AND EXITING THE LOT, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE A RELAY SWITCH WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER THE REPAIR. WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED, THE ENGINE COULD BE RESTARTED AFTER THE INITIAL ATTEMPT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHRYSLER ASPEN. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V313000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO DO THE REPAIR WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME TO PROVIDE THE PART FOR THE REPAIR. IN ADDITION, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE EMITTING FROM THE CABIN. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65,000. MA 10/23/15 THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THERE WAS A NOISE COMINF FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, NO PROBLEM WAS FOUND. UPDATED 11/03/15. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHRYSLER ASPEN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH DURING RAINY WEATHER, THE DASH GAUGES AND SENSOR LIGHTS SUDDENLY BEGAN TO FLICKER OFF AND ON AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOSE POWER. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY WATER THAT HAD LEAKED FROM THE SUN ROOF AND ROOF PANEL INTO THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR PILLAR AND ONTO THE ELECTRICAL PANEL FUSE BOX. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000...09/29/14 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM IS ONGOING. THE VEHICLE CAN'T BE DRIVEN IN THE RAIN, BECAUSE WATER STILL LEAKS INTO THE INTERIOR ELECTRICAL PANEL. THE CONSUMER STATED IT WAS NOT COMING FROM THE SUN ROOF, AS HE SEALED IT OFF. UPDATED 10/02/14
WHEN FILLING WITH GAS, IT DOESN'T STOP WHEN IT GETS FULL, AND GETS GAS ALL OVER ME AND THE VEHICLE. I HAVE HEARD MANY OTHER PEOPLE WHO OWN THIS VEHICLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT FIAT WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT WHEN PEOPLE COMPLAIN....UPDATED 09/28/15 *BF UPDATED 10/13/15. *JB

MY WIPERS COMES ON EVERY TIME I START MY TRUCK. ON 8/3/14 IT WAS RAINING AND I HAD THE WIPERS ON HIGH CAUSE OF HEAVY RAIN AND THEY STOPPED WORKING AND WOULD RUN SLOW. THE WIPERS WOULD INTERMITTENTLY MALFUNCTION AND CAUSE THE WIPERS TO BECOME INOPERABLE OR IT WOULD OPERATE ABNORMALLY. I ALSO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH MY THE TURN SIGNALS, THE SIGNAL SELECTED WAS OPPOSITE OF THE SIGNAL ACTIVATED. WHEN ACTIVATING THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL THE RIGHT WOULD ACTIVATE. THE SAME HAPPENS WHEN THE RIGHT SIGNAL IS ACTIVATED THE LEFT ACTIVATES ERRONEOUSLY. *TR
THERE IS A SAFETY/ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM WHEN FILLING UP THE GAS TANK OF OUR ASPEN. WHEN FILLING THE GAS TANK AND THE GAS PUMP SHUTS OFF, GAS SPURTS OUT ALL OVER THE PERSON FILLING THE TANK, THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE GROUND AND IS A SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM FOR THE DODGE DURANGO'S, BUT I AM NOT ABLE TO FIND ONE FOR THE ASPEN. THIS IS A SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRING. THIS IS AN ONGOING INCIDENT THAT OCCURS EVERY TIME WE REFILL THE VEHICLE. *TR
WHENEVER I FILL THE GAS, ONCE THE PUMP STOPS AND THE TANK IS FULL ABOUT 1/2 GALLON OF GAS COMES BACK UP AND OUT OF THE FILL HOLE. SPILLING DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND OUT ONTO THE GROUND. THIS APPEARS TO BE A REGULAR PROBLEM WITH THESE. THEY DID A RECALL ON THE JEEP WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHRYSLER ASPEN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK TOWARD THE RIGHT WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE RIGHT STEERING KNUCKLE WAS CRACKED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V386000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHRYSLER ASPEN. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. AFTER RESTARTING THE ENGINE, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD FREQUENTLY OCCUR WHEN MAKING A SHARP TURN IN EITHER DIRECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHRYSLER ASPEN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED TO FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE WIRING HARNESS HAD CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
ON MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS, GAS SPITS OUT AFTER FUELING. THIS BEGAN APPROXIMATELY AROUND DEC. 2013 AND CONTINUES TO BECOME MORE AGGRAVATING OVER TIME AS IT CONTINUES TO DO THIS EVERY TIME I FILL UP. *TR
WHEN REFUELING THE PUMP SHUTS OFF WHEN IT IS FULL, BUT AT LEAST A GALLON OF GASOLINE SPRAYS OUT ALL OVER THE GROUND AND AUTO. THE PUMP CLICKS OFF WHEN IT IS FULL, BUT THEN THE GASOLINE STARTS POURING OUT. *TR
JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED AND AT FIRST FUEL FILL-UP GAS SPEWED OUT OF TANK AT END OF FILL-UP. I DID NOT TOP OFF, AND I WAS HOLDING GAS LEVER MYSELF. AS IT SHUT OFF, A TON OF FUEL SHOT OUT OF THE TANK ALL OVER ME. I'VE READ THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. WHY IS THIS NOT A RECALL? *TR
I HAD TO HAVE THE RIGHT TIE ROD REPLACED. CAR VIBRATED AT SPEEDS OF 65 TO 70 MPH. WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE PART LOOKED TO BE DEFECTIVE. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING AND WE HEARD A CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM ENGINE, GOOD THING WE WERE DRIVING TOWARDS DEALER FOR OIL CHANGE WHEN THE CLICKING GOT WORSE AND WORSE. WHEN WE GOT TO DEALER WE TOLD THEM THAT WE HEARD WEIRD NOISES COMING FROM UNDER HOOD. IT CAME OUT BEING THAT 2 STUDS FROM REAR OF ENGINE FROM THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD HAVE BROKEN AND FALLEN OFF. THEY SAID IF WE CONTINUE DRIVING WITH THE 2 STUDS BROKEN THAT THE WHOLE ENGINE MIGHT FAIL AND U COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THAT THE VALVES COULD PERMANENTLY DAMAGE THE ENGINE IF DRIVEN WITH EXHAUST LEAK OR ANOTHER SCENARIO IS THAT THE EXHAUST LEAKED COULD CAUSE A FIRE . I WENT ONLINE TO SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE RECORDED THAT THE STUDS HAVE BROKEN AND ITS HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WITH DODGE RAMS, DODGE DURANGOS, AND CHRYSLER ASPENS. THEY SAID THAT HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX THE STUDS. WERE GONNA SPEND 450 FOR 2 BROKEN STUDS. HOPEFULLY WE HAVE NO DAMAGE IN THE VALVES. PLEASE MAKE CHRYSLER DO A RECALL ON THERE ENGINE SO THEY CAN FIX THE STUD PROBLEMS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. THANK U *TR
FUEL WILL SPRAY OUT OF THE FILLER PORT[NOT TOPPING OFF]----THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL ISSUE. DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE? *TR
ROUNDING CORNER WHEN STEERING COMPLETELY LOCKED UP; NOT ALLOWING ME TO TURN VEHICLE TO MAKE CURVE. RAN THROUGH FIELD INTO ELECTRICAL BOX. ALMOST RAN IN TO HOUSE. FORTUNATELY, MY SIGNIFICANT OTHER IS AN EXPERIENCED DRIVER AND WAS ABLE TO REACT QUICKLY TO ENSURE HIS SAFETY. HOWEVER, THIS VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT FOR MY 15 YEAR OLD SON TO DRIVE WHEN HE GETS HIS LICENSE. LUCKILY, HE WAS NOT DRIVING THE CAR AS HE WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THE EXPERIENCE TO HANDLE THIS ACCIDENT WITHOUT FATALLY INJURING HIMSELF AND/OR OTHERS. I FOUND A RECALL NOTICE ON THESE VEHICLES AFTER THE ACCIDENT; WHEN I CALLED I WAS TOLD THAT OUR VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED UNDER RECALL (ACTUALLY, NO RECALL AT ALL - WHAT?). THE ENGINE SOUNDS LOUD AND WHINY (FAN SOUNDING) AND THE RUNNING BOARD WAS PARTIALLY BROKEN OFF, AS WELL AS A SMALL DENT IN THE PASSENGER DOOR (DRIVER'S SIDE). CHRYSLER IS NOT HELPING AT ALL - REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM. WHERE DO I TURN? *TR
EVERY TIME I FILL THIS FUEL TANK, IT SPILLS BACK OUT WHEN THE AUTO CUTOFF ENGAGES. IT EVEN SPILLED BACK WHILE DOING IT BY HAND! CAN ANYONE SAY STATIC IGNITION? I AM ALSO REPLACING A FUEL PUMP FOR THE SECOND TIME!. *TR
MY COMPLIANT IS SPECIFIC TO THE TPMS TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM INSTALLED BY CHRYSLER. WHEN TRYING TO FILL MY TIRES THE THREADS ON THE TPMS SENSOR SEPARATED FROM THE STEM LEAVING ME UNABLE TO ADD AIR TO THE TIRE. THE REPAIR REQUIRED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE SENSOR. IN SPEAKING WITH THE TIRE REPAIR SHOP THEY INDICATED THE CHRYSLER SENSORS USE A WHITE METAL THREAD SECTION WHICH COMMONLY FAILS IN COLD CLIMATES. THE SEPARATION OF THE THREADS LED TO ADDITIONAL PRESSURE LOSS AND COULD POTENTIALLY FAIL UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. *TR
WHEN I PUT FUEL INTO THE GAS TANK A LARGE AMOUNT OF GASOLINE GUSHES BACK OUT OF THE TANK AFTER I AM FINISHED FUELING. THIS CAUSES GASOLINE TO SPLASH BACK ALL OVER THE PERSON FILLING THE VEHICLE, THE GROUND AND OVER THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENS AT DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS, AND DOES NOT MATTER HOW SLOW OR HOW FAST I FILL THE TANK. IT HAPPENS AFTER THE PUMP HAS STOPPED FILLING AND IS TURNED OFF AND REMOVING THE NOZZLE. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF THE PUMP AUTOMATICALLY TURN OFF, OR IF YOU SHUT OF THE FUEL PUMP. *TR
POWER STEERING HOSE BLEW OUT! IT IS ROUTED TO CLOSE TO A PULLY. I REPLACED IT WITH A MARINE GRADE HOSE FROM HOME DEPOT JUST TO GET HOME SAFELY. I THEN BROUGHT IT INTO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD, "THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF THESE CARS ON THE ROAD WITH NO PROBLEM LIKE THIS. BAD LUCK FOR YOU I GUESS" . *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHRYSLER ASPEN 4X4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER REFUELING, GASOLINE FUEL WOULD SPRAY OUT OF THE FILLER NECK HAPHAZARDLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE FUEL TANK INLET VALVE. THE VEHICLE WAS SCHEDULED FOR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WHEN PUMPING GAS IF I DO NOT STOP BEFORE TANK IS FULL, THE PUMP WILL STOP AND WHEN I PULL OUT OF TANK, GAS ERUPTS OUT OF GAS CAP. IT DOES NOT LEAK, IT SPRAYS AND OVERFLOWS CRAZY. FOR AWHILE IT WAS NOT ALL THE TIME, NOW IT DOES IT CONSISTENTLY AND EVEN THOUGH I HAVE CHECKED AND PURCHASED NEW GAS CAPS SINCE THAT WHAT I WAS TOLD WAS ISSUE, IT STILL DOES. CHECK ENGINE WILL BE ON AS WELL AS GAS CAP MESSAGE IN ODOMETER.
EVERY TIME I FILL MY FUEL TANK, APPROX. ONE GALLON OF GASOLINE SHOOTS BACK OUT. I GET COVERED IN GASOLINE, ALONG WITH THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND GROUND, CAUSING A VERY HAZARDOUS SITUATION. ANY TYPE OF SPARK COULD CAUSE ME TO GO ON FIRE, AS WELL AS THE CAR AND FUELING STATION. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURER. HOW MANY PEOPLE NEED TO COMPLAIN BEFORE SOMEONE GETS INJURED OR KILLED. I HAVE PERSONALLY VIEWED THOUSANDS OF THE SAME COMPLAINT. *TR
WHILE REFUELING FUEL WILL DISCHARGE OUT OF FILLER TUBE WHEN TANK GETS NEAR FULL, THIS WILL HAPPEN IF THE AUTO SHUT OFF IS USED OR IF IT IS OPERATED MANUALLY. THE FUEL WILL SPRAY UP TO 3' AWAY FROM VEHICLE AND COVER ANYTHING IN GENERAL AREA. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME VEHICLE IS REFUELED. *TR

GAS WILL SPEW FROM THE TANK WHEN FILLING THE TANK. THE PUMP SHUTS OFF CORRECTLY BUT GAS COMES RUSHING OUT, EVEN IF NOT COMPLETELY FILLED. *TR
TURN SIGNALS FUNCTION INTERMITTENTLY WHEN ACTIVATED. RIGHT SIGNAL SEEMS TO WORK OKAY WHEN ACTIVATED BUT RIGHT SIGNAL LIGHT ALSO COMES ON WHEN STALK IS PUSHED DOWN TO INDICATE A LEFT TURN. TRYING TO INDICATE A LEFT TURN CAN ALSO RESULT IN NO SIGNAL LIGHT AT ALL. THIS CAN CONFUSE OTHER DRIVERS AND HAS RESULTED IN SEVERAL NEAR MISSES ON LANE CHANGES AND AT INTERSECTIONS WHEN TURNING LEFT. SEEMS TO BE AFFECTED BY COLD TEMPERATURES AND AT THE PRESENT TIME GOES AWAY AFTER CAR IS WARMED FOR 15-20 MINUTES. CHRYSLER FORUMS HAVE INDICATED THIS TO BE A PROBLEM ON ASPENS. NO RECALLS ISSUED YET. *TR
STARTING AT AROUND 85,000 MILES OR SO DURING FILLING OF THE GAS TANK, JUST BEFORE THE FUEL HANDLE SHUT OFF ENGAGES, AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF FUEL LITERALLY GUSHES BACK FROM THE FUEL TANK, SOAKING THE PERSON FILLING THE VEHICLE AND THE GROUND WITH WHAT APPEARS TO BE BETWEEN A HALF GALLON TO A GALLON OF FUEL. WE HAVE TRIED MANY DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS, MANUALLY FILLING UP THE TANK, AND EVEN NOT COMPLETELY FILLING UP THE TANK ALL WITH THE SAME RESULT - ALOT OF GAS DUMPING BACK OUT ONTO PEOPLE, THE TRUCK, AND THE GROUND. GIVEN THAT GASOLINE IS EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE, AND THAT IT HAS BEEN PROVEN THAT SPARKS FROM STATIC ELECTRICITY AND CELL PHONES CAN EASILY IGNITE VAPORS, THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. MANY PEOPLE COMPLAIN OF THE SAME ISSUE WITH MANY CHRYSLER PRODUCTS (JEEP, DURANGO, AND ASPEN, MAINLY), AND CHRYSLER HAS INSTITUTED A RECALL ON VERY VERY LIMITED VEHICLES FOR THIS PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THAT ALL OF THE 2007 ASPENS AND DURANGOS, AND POSSIBLY EVEN MORE VEHICLES, SHOULD BE RECALLED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THE ISSUE IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE GAS TANK, WHICH IS COST PROHIBITIVE FOR MANY PEOPLE. I AM SURPRISED THAT THERE HASN'T BEEN ANY SERIOUS FIRES AND/OR FATALITIES DUE TO THIS ISSUE. DO WE REALLY NEED TO WAIT FOR SOMEONE TO BE SERIOUSLY HURT OR DIE BEFORE TAKING ACTION? NO OTHER CAR MANUFACTURERS SEEM TO BE HAVING THIS PROBLEM WITH AS MUCH REGULARITY AS CHRYSLER HAS. GIVEN THE TRAGIC EVENTS THAT HAVE UNFOLDED OVER THE PAST SEVERAL DAYS THE LAST THING I WANT TO HEAR ABOUT OR EXPERIENCE IS MORE CHILDREN KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED FROM A WELL KNOWN AND DOCUMENTED PROBLEM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHRYSLER ASPEN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT GASOLINE SPILLED TO THE GROUND WHENEVER THE FUEL TANK WAS FILLED. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHRYSLER ASPEN 4X4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE REFUELING, THE FILLER TUBE INLET CHECK VALVE FAILED, CAUSING FUEL TO BE PROJECTED ONTO THE VEHICLE AND THE CONTACT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE FUEL TANK FILLER TUBE INLET CHECK VALVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I AM NOT EXACTLY SURE OF THE DATE BUT OUR VEHICLE FIRST SPEWED GAS FROM THE GAS TANK WHEN FILLING THE FUEL TANK SOMETIME IN EARLY 2012. THIS ONLY HAPPENED ONE OR TWO TIMES BEFORE WE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR A CHECK VALVE IN THE FUEL FILL LINE. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR THE REPAIR AS SOON AS THE PART WAS AVAILABLE LATE IN 2012. A FEW MONTHS AFTERWARDS, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO OVERFLOW EVERY TIME THAT IT WAS FILLED TO ANYWHERE NEAR CAPACITY. THE DEALER NOW TELLS ME THAT A NEW FUEL TANK IS REQUIRED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND CHRYSLER IS UNWILLING TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM UNDER THE LIFETIME WARRANTY THAT WAS ISSUED WITH THE RECALL. THIS IS A SERIOUS FIRE HAZARD SINCE SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF FUEL OVERFLOW ONTO THE VEHICLE, THE PERSON FILLING THE VEHICLE, AND THE GROUND EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS FILLED WITH FUEL. IN ADDITION TO THE SAFETY HAZARD, THIS ALSO PRESENTS AN ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD DUE TO THE FUEL LEAKAGE ONTO THE GROUND. *TR
JUST PURCHASED A USED 2007 CHRYSLER ASPEN. WHEN FUELING TO FILL, GAS PUMP SHUTS OFF, THEN LARGE AMOUNT OF GAS OVERFLOWS OUT, SPLASHING SKIN, CLOTHING, GAS CAP AND PAVEMENT. ADDITIONAL GAS GOES ON HAND WHEN CLOSING GAS CAP. SEEMS LIKE THIS IS A FIRE HAZARD, NOT TO MENTION ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD. NOT "TOPPING OFF", JUST ALLOWING PUMP TO SHUT OFF, WHICH IT DOES. THE GAS ONLY OVERFLOWS OUT AFTER THE PUMP SHUTS OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT MULTIPLE STATIONS AND WAS EXTRA CAREFUL NOT TO PUT THE NOZZLE IN TOO FAR. HAVE SEEN LOTS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS HERE. THE CAR HAS BEEN GUSHING GAS OUT OUT OF THE FILLER TUBE EVERY TIME IT IS FILLED FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. THEN THE FUEL PUMP COMPLETELY FAILED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED ON 02/13/12 AT A COST OF $1137.34. THEN ON 02/28 THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON REQUIRING AN NEW EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYTEM ECIM SWITCH HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $178.17. THE CAR STILL GUSHES GASOLINE OUT AT EVERY FILL UP AND WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR A FIX FROM THE DEALER ON THIS ISSUE. *JS
EVERY TIME I PUT FUEL INTO THE GAS TANK IT FORCEFULLY GUSHES A LARGE AMOUNT OF GASOLINE BACK OUT OF THE TANK AFTER I AM FINISHED FUELING. THIS CAUSES GASOLINE TO SPLASH BACK ALL OVER THE PERSON FILLING THE VEHICLE, ALL OVER THE GROUND AND ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENS AT NUMEROUS GAS STATIONS, AND DOES NOT MATTER HOW SLOW OR HOW FULL I FILL THE TANK. IT HAPPENS AFTER THE PUMP HAS STOPPED FILLING AND IS TURNED OFF BUT DURING THE PROCESS OF REMOVING THE NOZZLE. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF YOU WAIT FOR THE PUMP TO AUTOMATICALLY TURN OFF, OR IF YOU SHUT OF THE FUEL PUMP OFF BEFORE EVEN REACHING TO FULL LINE (NO MATTER HOW MUCH OR LITTLE GAS I PUT IT, IT CONTINUES TO BE AN ISSUE). IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE GASOLINE GETS INTO SOMEONE'S EYES OR CAUSES SERIOUS INJURY TO SOMEONE IN MY FAMILY, THIS CAN NOT BE SAFE.

WHILE FILLING UP THE VEHICLE AT THE GAS STATION, THE PUMPS AUTO-SHUT OFF FEATURE WOULD ACTIVATE AND SEVERAL SECONDS LATER, FUEL WOULD SHOOT BACK OUT OF THE VEHICLE'S FILLER TUBE. WE JUST BOUGHT THE VEHICLE (USED) ON NOVEMBER 19,2011 AND THIS HAS HAPPENED ON TWO OTHER OCCASIONS WHILE FUELING THE VEHICLE SINCE THAT TIME. AFTER SOME ONLINE INVESTIGATION, IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. NOT ONLY WITH THIS VEHICLE BUT WITH QUITE A FEW CHRYSLER VEHICLES IN GENERAL. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS PROBLEM WITH THE AMOUNT OF FUEL THAT IS SPILLED ON THE VEHICLE, ON THE GROUND AND ON MYSELF WHEN ATTEMPTING TO FUEL THE VEHICLE. *TR
FUEL GUSHES BACK OUT WHEN THE VEHICLE IS FILLED. THIS PROBLEM DID NOT APPEAR UNTIL THE VEHICLE WAS ABOUT FOUR YEARS OLD AND HAD 36,000 MILES. I HAVE USED MULTIPLE GAS PUMPS AND IT IS NOT FUEL STATION RELATED. APPARENTLY, CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THIS AS A PROBLEM ON THE ASPEN AND THE DODGE DURANGO, AS WELL AS SEVERAL JEEP MODELS, AS THERE ARE NUMEROUS FORUMS AND VIDEOS ON THE INTERNET THAT SHOW THIS PROBLEM TO BE WIDESPREAD. I FEEL THIS PROBLEM CONSTITUTES A FIRE SAFETY HAZARD FOR NOT ONLY THE OPERATOR BUT OTHER SERVICE STATION CUSTOMERS NEARBY. RESEARCH INDICATES THAT THE PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY AN INLET CHECK VALVE FAILURE IN THE FUEL TANK. WHEN I SPOKE TO THE DEALER, THEY ACTED AS IF THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM IN ANY CHRYSLER VEHICLE, BUT SAID IT MIGHT BE HAPPENING ON THE JEEP LIBERTY. THEY REFUSED TO ORDER A REPLACEMENT TANK WITHOUT ME BRINGING THE VEHICLE IN AND THEN FILLING IT UP WITH FUEL SO THEY COULD OBSERVE THE PROBLEM. THE SERVICE REP AT THE DEALER ALSO SUGGESTED THAT AFTER THEY OBSERVED THE PROBLEM, I SHOULD RUN THE TANK BELOW HALF FULL TO FACILITATE REPLACEMENT. THEY SAID THE COST OF REPLACEMENT WOULD BE AT MY EXPENSE. *TR
WHEN FILLING WITH FUEL, THE FUEL WHEN FINISHED WILL SPEW OUT EVERY TIME. THIS SOAKS THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WITH FUEL AND IS A MAJOR FIRE HAZZARD. EVEN IF I AM CAREFUL AND FILL MORE SLOWLY OR STOP IT BEFORE IT IS READY IT DOES NOT MATTER, THERE IS A FUEL SPILL EVERYTIME. *TR

IT'S DIFFICULT TO EVEN TRY TO STOP FUELING BEFORE THE TANK FILLS UP. HAVE TRIED SLOWING DOWN THE RATE OF DELIVERY, CHANGING ANGLE OF PUMP. NOTHING PREVENTS THIS. THIS IS A CHRYSLER PROBLEM, NOT CONSUMER NEGLIGENCE. WHAT'S MOST SHOCKING IS THAT THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM ON DURANGO'S AND ASPEN'S (SIMILAR VEHICLE) FOR YEARS AND CHRYSLER STILL HASN'T FIXED IT. THERE ARE POSTS ALL OVER THE INTERNET ON THIS. IT IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE, ESPECIALLY DURING A ROLLOVER (WHICH I HAVE BEEN IN ONCE IN THE PAST). WE HAVE ARE A FAMILY OF SIX AND IT MAKES ME SICK TO THINK MY FAMILY'S SAFETY IS IN JEOPARDY WITH THIS VEHICLE. COME ON CHRYSLER - THIS IS NEARLY A $50,000 VEHICLE BRAND NEW. STAND UP AND TAKE OWNERSHIP FOR YOUR MISTAKE AND QUIT BLAMING EVERYONE ELSE LIKE FUEL MANUFACTURES FOR ETHANOL ETC. ETHANOL WAS IN FUEL LONG BEFORE THIS VEHICLE AND FUEL SYSTEM WERE MANUFACTURED. YOU MOST LIKELY HAVE A BAD SUPPLIER - MAKE THEM PAY FOR IT INSTEAD OF THOSE WHO ARE FUTURE VEHICLE BUYERS. *TT

THIS RELEASES AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF FUEL VAPORS AND PRESENTS A LARGE GASOLINE FIRE HAZARD. THIS HAPPENS AT EVERY FILL UP AND REGARDLESS OF OCTANE, TIME OF DAY, OR AMOUNT OF FUEL IN TANK ON FILL UP. AFTER STOPPING THE VEHICLE BRIEFLY THE STEERING FUNCTION RESET INDEPENDENTLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED FOUR TIMES. THE CONTACT, WHO WAS A CERTIFIED MECHANIC, WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER REPAIRED NOR TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIRS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.

THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V386000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
