CONSUMER STATES BOTH REAR "BACKING PLATES" HAVE SEVERE CRACKS CAUSING THE REAR CALIPERS, WHICH ARE ATTACHED TO THE PLATES, TO POTENTIALLY FALL OFF. TS
ON 9/24/2002, MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER BLEW OUT THE WELDED SEAM. MAKING A DEAFENING SOUND INSIDE THE CAR. UPON INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE THE NEXT DAY THEY TOLD ME THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER BLEW OUT THE SEAM ON THE TOP. AFTER THE PARTS DEPARTMENT ORDERED A NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER FROM ATLANTA, THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD BE IN THE NEXT DAY. HOWEVER, IN THE MEAN TIME THEY CHECKED WITH CHRYSLER SERVICE CONTRACT I HAVE FOR 100,000 MILES OR 3 YEARS DID NOT COVER THE PART, HOWEVER IT WAS COVERED BY A 80,000 MILE WARRANTY. WHICH I WAS 4,600 MILES PAST. I AVERAGE ABOUT 3-4000 MILES A MONTH IN MY JOB. THEN THE NEXT DAY WHEN I CALLED TO CHECK ON THE CAR TO SEE IF IT WAS FINISHED, THEY TOLD ME THE PART WAS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER. I WAS RENTING A CAR AT THE TIME FOR $36.99 A DAY. SO I CALLED CHRYSLER AND TOLD THEM OF THE SITUATION ON 9/26/2002, THEY SAID SINCE IT WAS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER THAT THE SITUATION WAS DIFFERENT AND THEY WOULD HELP ME OUT BY PAYING FOR 1/2 THE RENTAL OF THE CAR. WHICH I AGREED WAS SOME WHAT FAIR. SO I CALLDE THE DEALER BACK ON MONDAY AND HE SAID THE PART WAS STILL NOT IN, DIDN'T KNOW FOR SURE WHEN IT WOULD BE IN AND THEN LATER THAT DAY THEY SSAID THEY HAD A PROMISE DATE OF 10/7/2002 OF SHIPMENT. IT FINALLY CAME IN ON 10/4/2002. WHICH THEY FINISHED FIXING IT BY CLOSING TIME THAT DAY. THE SERVICE MANAGER LOOKED AT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND SAID HE WOULD CONFIRM QUOTE"THAT THIS HAS BEEN LEAKING FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW AND WAS NOT JUST AN OVERNIGHT HAPPENING BY THE CORROSION OF THE PART. SO I FEEL A FULL REFUND IS IN ORDER FOR PARTS, LABOR AND CAR RENTAL. THE SERVICE MANAGER "RICKY HENDRIX" SAID HE WOULD CONFIRM THIS WITH ANY ONE THAT NEEDED TO KNOW. PLEASE ADVISE! MR

WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY THE STEERING COLUMN HAS A NOISE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. NLMTHE FLUID LINE UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE IS MOUNTED LOW WHICH HITS CURBS AND SPEED BUMPS UNLESS DRIVING 5 TO 10 MPH. *JG

BOTH APPTS WERE CXLD BY DLR WHO STILL TODAY ADVISED CONSUMER DOES NOT HAVE PARTS FOR REMEDY. 1ST APPT ON 9/10/02-DLR CALLED AND CXLD. CONSUMER CALLED BACK ON 10/01/02, DLR ADVISED DID NOT HAVE PARTS. THE JACK FAILED WHILE THE CAR WAS UP ON IT. WHILE CHANGING A TIRE, THE SUPPLIED SCISSORS JACK TWISTED AND BENT ALLOWING THE CAR TO FALL. THE PART # IS 05008275AA 17763. THE WEIGHT OF THE CAR BENT BOTH THE JACK FRAME AND THE ADJUSTMENT SCREW. MR

WHILE DRIVING ON TURNPIKE POWER CONTROL MODULE FAILED, CAUSING VEHICLE TO STALL. CONSUMER COASTED INTO RIGHT LANE, AND ANOTHER VEHICLE COLLIDED INTO THE REAR. CONSUMER SUSTAINED INJURIES.*AK
ON AUGUST 8,2002 AT APPROXIMATELY 9:33 A.M. IN THE TOWN OF. NO SAFETY DEFECT MENTIONED. *AK
VEHICLE WAS PARKED AT A SLIGHT INCLINE IN NEUTRAL AND PARK BRAKE APPLIED. VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS, AND HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. NO INJURIES, DAMAGE TO VEHICLE WAS $ 1300.00. ON 21 AUGUST 2002, VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON LEVEL ROAD WITH PARK BRAKE APPLIED. AGAIN VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARD, CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO STOP VEHICLE. VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN EXAMINED BY DEALER.*AK

DRIVER'S SIDE TIRES TIRES SIZE P205/55R16 BECAME FLAT FOR NO REASON. WHEN TAKING TIRES TO BE REPAIRED CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THE TIRES LOOKED AS IF SHE HAD HIT SOMETHING. BUT CONSUMER KNEW THAT THIS WAS INCORRECT SINCE TIRE ON PASSENGER'S SIDE HAS DONE THE SAME THING, AND NOTHING HAD BEEN HIT.*AK
FUEL LINE INSIDE ENGINE COMPARTMENT HAD RUBBED AGAINST PLASTIC CAP FOR A/C RECHARGE NIPPLE. THIS EVENTUALLY CAUSED A SMALL PUNCTURE IN THE FUEL LINE AND ALLOWED A FINE MIST OF GASOLINE TO BE SPRAYED IN THE VICINITY OF THE EXAUST MANIFOLD. NO FIRE RESULTED FROM THIS INCIDENT.*AK
ENGINE COMPARTMENT, FUEL LINE RUBS AGAINST A/C LINE ,CAUSING FUEL LINE TO FAIL.*AK
I CAME TO A STOP AFTER A LONG FREEWAY TRIP AND NOTICED A VERY STRONG GAS SMELL. I LOOKED UNDER HOOD AND COULD SMELL AND SEE GASOLINE HAD SPRAYED ALL OVER THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. LATER, I FOUND A LINK TO A PT CLUB WEBSITE PROBLEM AREA, WHERE SOMEONE HAD POSTED ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM JUST A FEW WEEKS EARLIER. HER MILAGE WAS AT THE SAME POINT AS MINE (AROUND 40,000 45,000 MILES) (I REMEMBER CONVERSING WITH HER WHEN SHE AND I WERE WAITING FOR OUR CARS TO ARRIVE IN AUG 2000 SO OUR CARS WERE MADE AROUND THE SAME TIME). OTHER POSTS REFLECTED THAT OTHERS WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM IN THEIR PTS THE FUEL LINE IS GETTING WORN ON A SPOT ON THE UNDERSIDE (NOT VISIBLE) WHERE IT RUBBED AGAINST A PART OF THE AIRCONDITIONING LINE. COMPARING NOTES, IT SEEMS SOME PT'S HAD COME OUT OF THE FACTORY WITH THE FUEL LINE TIED AWAY FROM THE AIRCONDITIONER, SOME DIDNT. CHRYSLER RECOGNIZES THIS BECAUSE THEY HAVE PUT A TSB OUT FOR THE PROBLEM. OUR OWN OBSERVATION IS THAT CARS MADE A FEW MONTHS EARLIER ARE CONFIGURED DIFFERENTLY AND DON'T HAVE THE PROBLEM. I DONT KNOW HOW MUCH LATER AFTER MINE WAS BUILT THEY BEGAN TYING THE HOSE AWAY AS A REGULAR PRACTICE. MY CAR WAS BUILT AUG 2, 2000. WHEN GETTING THE FUEL LINE REPLACED AT THE DEALERSHIP THE WEEK OF 7/12 - I POINTED OUT THAT THIS WAS AN OBVIOUS, AND KNOWN SAFETY DEFECT AND ASKED THEM TO FIX IT WITH NO CHARGE. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID THAT BECAUSE THERE WAS NO RECALL, AND BECAUSE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. SO I PAID $312.66 TO REPLACE THE HOSE. ON A CAR EVENT A WEEK AFTER MY CAR WAS REPAIRED, WE LOOKED AT THE HOSES ON ABOUT 10 OTHER PT'S - THOSE THAT WERENT TIED BACK ALL SHOWED WEAR IN THE SAME AREA. ONE WITH ABOUT 35,000 MILES HAD SIGNIFICANT WEAR SUCH THAT THE LINE SHOULD PROBABLY BE REPLACED AND NOT JUST TIED BACK TO PREVENT FURTHER DAMAGE. I SUSPECT THERE ARE ALOT OF PT'S OUT THERE THAT WERE MADE AROUND THE SAME TIME THAT ARE FACING AN UNEXPECTED FUEL LEAK. *AK
FUEL LINE RESTS AGAINST AIR CONDITIONER LINE AND IS WEARING. *AK
FUEL LINE IS RESTING ON THE METAL AIR CONDITIONING LINE AND CONSUMER CONSTANTLY SMELLS GASOLINE FROM VEHICLE.*AK
FUEL LINE RUBBING THRU BY THE AIR CONDITIONER FITTING, (INCORRECTLY ROUTED FROM FACTORY) CAUSING FUEL TO BE SPRAYED ALL OVER THE TOP OF THE ENGINE AND EXHAUST MANIFOLD.*AK
AIR CONDITIONER IS BLOWING OUT STRONG FUMES ,MAKING IT HARD FOR CONSUMER TO DRIVE. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
THE VEHICLE MADE EXCESSIVE NOISE IN THE MOTOR AREA OR FRONT AXLE. THE DEALER INDICATED THE NOISE WAS CAUSED BY TIRES WHICH NEEDED ROTATING, HOWEVER THE NOISE CONTINUED AFTER THE TIRES WERE ROTATED. NEXT, THE DEALER REPLACED THE TRANSFER GEAR SET AND PUT IN 24 NEW SHIMS. *YH
BRAKE SYSTEM HAS TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT HAS WORN OUT. *AK FRONT ROTOR FAILURE. ROTORS COULD NOT BE TURNED DOWN. EXTREMELY HIGH WEAR ON ROTORS AND PADS.*JG
HORN AND AIRBAG WON'T WORK, "AIRBAG" LIGHT ON DASH IS CONSTANTLY ON. *AK
HELLO, I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A COMPLAINT AGAINST OPTIMA BATTERIES. I WORKED FOR OPTIMA BATTERIES AS A MAINTENANCE TECH FROM 11/00 TO 1/04 OPTIMA HAS A CONTRACT WITH CHRYSLER TO BUILD BATTERIES FOR THE PT CRUISERS. THE PROBLEM IS THAT SOME OF THE BATTERIES THAT WENT IN THE CARS LEAKED. THE BATTERIES FIT SOME WERE IN THE PASSENGER AREA OF THE CAR IT WOULD LET OUT ACID FUMES INSIDE THE CAR.I HAVE SEEN THE BATTERIES SENT DOWN PRODUCTION LINE IF THEY FAILED THE LEAK TEST MACHINE.DURING APRIL OF 2002 I CALLED CHRYSLER CORP AND SPOKE TO [XXX] AND TOLD HER ABOUT THE BAD BATTERIES AND THAT THEY WERE NOT AT QS5000. AFTER THAT I STILL SEEN THE LEAKERS GO TO CHRYSLER CORP. CONSUMER SMELLED FUEL WHILE DRIVING. DEALER DISCOVERED AIR CONDITIONER HOSE HAD RUBBED FUEL LINE, CAUSING THE LEAK.*AK
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE LOSING AIR PRESSURE. THE FLUCTUATION IN THE CHANGE OF WEATHER DETERMINED WHICH TIRE WAS AFFECTED. A LOCAL TIRE DEALER SAID THE PROBLEM WAS THE DESIGN OF THE WHEELS. THE WHEELS WERE CHROME OVER ALUMINUM. THE WHEEL BUILD UP WITH CORROSION AND PREVENTED THE SEALING OF THE TIRE. THE SERVICE DEALER HAS NOT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE THE EXACT CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. *AK
DURING THE FIRST COUPLE OF MINUTES OF OPERATION, DURING CLOSED PHASED OF ENGINE OPERATION THE VEHICLE WILL HESITATE DURING ACCELERATION. THIS IS MOST NOTICEABLE IN FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD GEAR AND DURING COOLER DAMP CONDITIONS. ALSO DURING THIS CLOSED PHASE, THERE IS POPPING NOISE IN EXHAUST SYSTEM UPON DECELERATION USING THE ENGINE. THE OTHER MAJOR CONCERN IS A VIBRATION FROM THE ENGINE AND OR TRANSMISSION UPON FULL ACCELERATIONS IN 4TH GEAR. THIS EVEN OCCURS WHEN THE ENGINE IS AT OR ABOVE 2500 RPM(RECOMMENDED SPEED FOR STARTING 4TH GEAR), AND DISSIPATES AS THE CAR SPEED INCREASES. CONSUMER STATES VEHICLE WAS DRIVING WITH A LOSE LUG NUT AND A BROKEN LUG NUT ON THE LEFT REAR WHEEL. VEHICLE WAS TOW TO THE DEALER. NLM
BOLTS THAT HOLD THE EXHAUST SYSTEM ONTO THE FRAME OF THE CAR BREAK, LEAVING THE EXHAUST SYSTEM DANGLING. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE, NOW-- ONCE IN 2002, THEN AGAIN THIS YEAR (2004) AFTER A COLLISION REPAIR USING CHRYSLER BOLTS. *AK
ENGINE RACING WHEN STARTING,AND AT TIME WHEN STOPPING. ALSO, TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING AND BRAKES SQUEAKED. MECHANIC REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE BRAKES. VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN SHOP ABOUT 6-8 TIMES IN LESS THAN A YEAR.*AK
FUEL LINE RUBBED ON AC LINE AND WORE THROUGH PLASTIC COVER AND HOSE WAS LEAKING GAS. DEALER SAID THAT THE LINE WAS ON BACK ORDER FROM MANUFACTURER. ON NEW MODEL THERE IS A CLIP TO LOCATE THE LINE AWAY FROM OTHER PARTS. A CHECK OF A FRIENDS CAR SHOWS WEAR TO THE PLASTIC COVER ALSO. BRAKES HAVE SMELLED ENTIRE LIFE OF VEHICLE. BRAKE PADS AND ROTOR HAD TO BE REPLACED PRE-MATURELY AT 18000 MILES. BRAKES STILL SMELL. CONSUMER STATED THAT RIDGE INSIDE OF ROAD INFLATED TWO REAR TIRES, CAUSING VEHICLE TO GO INTO A SPIN/VEHICLE FLIPPED, AND WENT INTO A ENBANKMENT. AIRBAGS DIDN'T GO OFF, AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEATBELT DIDN'T HOLD . THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *AK
CAR PULLS TO THE RIGHT AND VIBRATION. DEALER HAS SWITCHED TIRES FROM FRONT TO BACK, SIDE TO SIDE, AND HAVE REPLACED 4 ORIGINAL TIRES AND 7 ADDITIONAL TIRES. DEALER STILL CLAIMS IT IS A TIRE PROBLEM INSTEAD OF SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH VEHICLE. VEHICLE STILL HAS A PULL AND VIBRATION. STEERING COLUMN SQUEAKS. SUNROOF GLASS BUSTED WHILE GOING APPROX. 45 MPH.GLASS WAS BLOWN UPWARDS, AND SHATTERED COMPLETELY, THUS FALLING DOWN ON DRIVER.GLASS WAS PROTRUDING UPWARDS, PICTURES TAKEN IMMEDIATELY. DEALER CONTACTED IMMEDIATELY. MANUFACTURERS DISTRICT REPRESENTATIVE DENIED ANY TYPE OF SERVICE WARRANTY VERBALLY WITHOUT LOOKING AT VEHICLE.HE CLAIMS SOMETHING FELL FROM THE SKY DUE TO A DENT ON TOP(OF WHICH DOCUMENTATION IS FILED WITH BBB), BUT NEVER ASKED ME WHERE THIS CAME FROM. HAD HE ASKED I COULD'VE ANSWERED, EVEN DEALER WAS AWARE OF THIS OLD DENT. NEVER WOULD DISCUSS THIS MATTER WITH ME. DEALER WAS INFORMED I WAS NOT HAPPY, AND UNDERSTOOD I WOULD GO FURTHER, AND SUPPORTED MY PROBLEM CONCERNING THE SUNROOF. THIS VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS BEEN EXTREMELY BAD ON THE PRESSURE CONTAINED INSIDE.IF YOU OPEN A WINDOW YOUR EARS POP.NOTHING, NOTHING HIT THE WINDOW FROM OUTSIDE, IF IT DID GLASS WOULD'VE BEEN GOING DOWN, NOT UP. NOTHING HIT IT FROM THE INSIDE, NO CARS AROUND ME. GLASS WAS IN MY HAIR, SMALL CUTS ON MY HANDS, AND THANK GOD NO CHILD, OR SOMEONE ELSE WAS WITH ME. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY A CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE REP. MY REPORT WILL GO NOWHERE, AND DETERMINATION IS AS THE DISTRICT REP. HAS STATED. I HAVE PICTURES FROM A CAMERA I BOUGHT IMMEDIATELY WHICH SHOW THE PROTRUDING GLASS.THIS COULD BE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN TO SOMEONE ELSE.

DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, AND UNWILLING TO ASSIST IN THIS MATTER. *AK CONSUMER BELIEVES THIS TO BE A DESIGN PROBLEM, THE REAR HEAD RESTS ARE VERY DISTRACTING AND CONFUSING WHEN USING THE INSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR, THE FRONT SEAT HEAD RESTS BLOCK VISIBILITY WHEN CHANGING LANES OR BACKING UP.*SLC
POWER STEERING HOSE, NO PROTECTION UNDER CAR. MR
DEPENDING ON DRIVING CONDITIONS, VEHICLE BURNS OIL AT THE RATE OF APPROXIMATELY ONE QUART EVERY ~600 TO ~1000 MILES. IF THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN MOSTLY ON EXPRESSWAYS, THE OIL CONSUMPTION IS GREATER THAN IF DRIVEN PRIMARILY ON SURFACE STREETS. I FIRST BROUGHT THIS PROBLEM TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DAIMLERCHRYSLER (DC) DEALERSHIP AT 9,770 MILES, THOUGH I HAD NOTICED IT EARLIER. AT 9770 MILES, I TOLD THE DEALER THAT THE CAR HAD CONSUMED 1 QUART OF OIL IN 1,000 MILES. ON A SUBSEQUENT TRIP TO THE DEALER, THE VEHICLE CONSUMED 1 QUART IN JUST 616 MILES. UNDER WARRANTY AND OVER SEVERAL SERVICE VISITS, THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE PC VALVE TWICE AND REPLACED ONE VALVE STEM AND 3 VALVES, ALL VALLVE SEALS, MACHINED THE HEADS AND REPLACED THE WARPED EXHAUST MANIFOLDS. THE LAST TIME THE VEHICLE WAS IN FOR THIS PROBLEM, THE DEALER HAD IT 15 DAYS. THE VEHICLE STILL BURNS OIL AT THE SAME RATES AS BEFORE. DEALER WANTS TO REPLACE THE SHORT BLOCK. DC HAS OFFERRED TO REPURCHASE VEHICLE BUT WE CANNOT AGREE ON THE PRICE. I AM SUING UNDR CALIFORNIA'S LEMON LAW
CONSUMER STATES DEALER REFUSES TO REMOVE SIDE PIPES THAT ARE WELDED TO THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER FEELS VEHICLE MAY BLOW UP IF INVOLVED IN A ROLLOVER. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. MR
