I DO NOT BELIEVE THE DEALERS ANSWER THAT BOLTS WERE LOOSE AS EITHER I OR MY PERSONAL MECHANIC ARE THE ONLY PARTIES THAT WORK ON THE VEHICLE ( WHEELS LAST REMOVED JULY 01 FOR ROTATION ). OR THAT THE VEHICLE HIT A TREMENDOUS CHUCK HOLE . I WAS ON A NEWLY SURFACE CONCRETE ROAD.. *AK
THE DRIVERS SEAT BELT LOCKS UP TIGHT ANYTIME I LEAN FORWARD TO CHECK FOR CROSS TRAFFIC AT A STOP SIGN OR TO CHECK THE SIDE MIRROR BLIND SPOT BEFORE CHANGING LANES. IT LOCKS IMMEDIATELY, I'M ACTUALLY PINNED TO THE SEAT BACK. I HAVE TO LEAN BACK INTO THE SEAT BACK TO ALLOW IT TO RELEASE BEFORE BEING ABLE TO MOVE MY UPPER BODY FORWARD. IN THE BEGINNING IT RARELY HAPPENED, NOW IT'S ALMOST ALL THE TIME. ON THE OTHER MATTER OF THE FRONT DISK BRAKES. THE RIGHT SIDE NOT ONLY WORE OUT TWICE AS FAST AS THE LEFT BUT WORE AT AN ANGLE WHICH CAUSED THE METAL BACKING PLATE TO SCRAPE THE ROTOR BEFORE THE SQEEKER WAS EVEN CLOSE TO SCRAPING. I STILL HAVE THE BRAKE PADS.
VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN FRONT OF CONSUMER'S DRIVEWAY ON AN INCLINE AND ON A HILL. HE WENT TO PULL PARKING BRAKE, AND VEHICLE WAS ROLLING BACKWARDS.APPLIED BRAKES, BRAKES WENT STRAIGHT UP AND DIDN'T HOLD. DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK *SLC
VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND CONSUMER NOTICED THAT TREAD HAD BEGAN TO SEPARATE FROM GOODYEAR REAR PASSENGER TIRE. GOODYEAR WAS NOTIFIED.*AK GOODYEAR INFORMED CONSUMER THAT TIRE HAD KNOT DUE TO IMPACT HIT, DEALERSHIP STATED PROBLEM WAS DUE TO TREAD SEPARATION AND NOT AN IMPACT, FINALLY A GOODYEAR TIRE STORE SPLIT THE COST 50/50, THE GOODYEAR TIRE SIZE WAS P205/55R15, DOT NUMBER MKT2 BMDR 080. *SLC
YOU CAN DIAL GOODYEAR AT 1-800.321.2136 PRESS 1 THEN, PRESS 3. ASK ABOUT GOODYEAR CASE # 559-496. IT INVOLVES MY PT CRUISERS, ITS ORIGINAL SETS OF TIRES AND CONTINUED PROBLEMS. I WAS WORRIED ABOUT HAVING FUTURE BLOW-OUTS. ITS A MATTER OF SAFETY. GOODYEAR REASONABLY, ADJUSTED THREE TIRES FOR ME AFTER I EXPLAINED MY BLOW OUTS SITUATION. I FOLLOWED UP AGAIN WITH GOODYEAR, AND TOYO (FILE # 035253), EXPLAINED THE 16 INCH WHEEL SAGA. HOW I SPENT A YEAR GOING FROM DEALERSHIP TO DEALERSHIP COMPLAINING ABOUT THE 16 INCH WHEELS AND THE TIRE BLOW-OUTS. THEY NEVER RECORDED MY RIM COMPLAINTS NO MATTER WHICH DC 5 STAR DEALERSHIP I WENT TOO. THEY WOULD RECORD THE CRUISERS MILEAGE, AND ANY WARRANTED ITEMS THEY COULD BILL DC FOR, BUT NEVER A WHEEL OR TIRE COMPLAINT. I QUESTIONED THE SERVICE MANAGERS AND THE MECHANICS AND THEY ALL REPEATED. NO ONE (WE KNOW OF) IS COMPLAINING ABOUT LOW MILEAGE UNEVEN TIRE WEAR, DIFFICULTY BALANCING OR PULLING TIRES, RIMS OUT OF ROUND, BENT, CORRODED, PEELING OR RUSTED RIMS. AND NO ONE IS REPORTING TIRE BLOW-OUTS ON THE PT CRUISER. DC HAS NO TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS ABOUT THESE ISSUES. I REPORTED TO GOODYEAR AND TOYO COSTUMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT AS A FOLLOW-UP. I REVIEWED THE FINDINGS FROM PRITZ DC S 5 STAR DEALERSHIP. AS IT GOES, ITS NOT THE TIRES--ITS THE RIMS. THESE ALLOY WHEELS ARE OUT OF ROUND, BENT, CORRODED, SOFT, RUSTED ON THE STREET FACE OF THE WHEELS WITH RUST AND PEELING CHROME AROUND LIPS RIM WHICH SEALS TO THE TIRE ON THE INSIDE WHICH YOU CANNOT SEE. OTHER PT OWNERS ARE ALSO HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THESE 16 IN WHEELS WHICH THEYVE ALSO REPORTED TO GOODYEAR. THEY DESERVE TO BE NOTIFIED. THE PAINT AND BODY DAMAGE ON OUR PT CRUISER IS FROM RIDING BLOWN-OUT TIRES OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THANK GOD WE ARE STILL ALIVE. *AK
I HAVE HAD MY PT CRUISER IN 4 DIFFERENT TIMES IN THE PASSED 11/2 YEARS. THERE IS A SERIOUS WOBBLE IN THE STEERING, AND EACH TIME THE DEALER LOOKS AT MY COMPLAINT. THEY ROTATE AND BALANCE THE TIRES. I HAVE TOLD THEM ON EACH CONSECUTIVE VISIT THAT THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. AT ONE POINT A DEALER TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD USED THE WRONG "KIND" OF WHEEL WEIGHTS AND THEY WERE LOOSENING UP. ANOTHER VISIT WARRANTED A NEW STEERING COLUMN. THE PROBLEM PERSISTS I HAVE LOOKED FOR RECALLS, AND SERVICE BULLETINS BUT NONE ARE IN AFFECT FOR THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM. IT HAS BEEN QUITE FRUSTRASTING TO NOT SEE THE PROBLEM SOLVED. I AM LOOKING FOR HELP, AND AM CONSIDERING FILING THE MINNESOTA LEMON LAW. THINKING THAT I SHOULD START HERE. DT
WHEN APPLYING ACCELERATOR VEHICLE REVVES BUT WILL NOT ACCELERATE. THIS HAPPENS AT SLOW SPEEDS AND AT TAKE OFF. DEALER CANNOT REMEDY SITUATION. *AK
ORIGINAL FUEL LINE LOCATION CAUSED FRICTION AND WEARING ON THE BRAIDED FUEL LINE. THIS WORE A HOLE CLEAR THROUGH THE LINE SPEWING GASOLINE ALL OVER A VERY HOT ENGINE! I WAS THE ONE WHO ORIGINALLY BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE INTERNET 'PT COMMUNITY'. PLEASE STRESS A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. VERY CONCERNED FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NO 'NET ACCESS!! THEY HAVE TO BE NOTIFIED SOMEHOW! SOME FOLKS WHO DIDN'T BOTHER TO CHECK.. BECAUSE THEY HAVE A 'LATER MODEL' 2001. AND WE'VE ALREADY ESTABLISHED THAT THIS IS NOT RELEVANT. JUST COMPLETELY ANGRY AND FRUSTRATED WITH CHRYSLER FOR PRODUCING AN AUTOMOBILE THAT'S CONSTANTLY CAUSING OVERHEATING PROBLEMS THAT NO ONE SEEMS TO BE ABLE TO CORRECT. MY PT USED 1 QUART OF OIL IN THE FIRST 2700 MILES AND THE ANOTHER QUART IN THE NEXT 2000 MILES AND SO ON. CARMAX FIRST VISIT SAID NORMAL FOR BREAK IN PERIOD AND WANTED TO DO CONSUMPTION TEST. BROUGHT BACK AFTER 2K MILES, QUART LOW AGAIN. THIS TIME THEY SAID CAN'T DO ANYTHING SINCE DC SAYS ALLOWABLE TOLERANCE IS 1 QUART EVERY 1K MILES. I AM CALLING DC TOMORROW, DEALER REFUSED TO CALL. *AK
PARKING BRAKE OCCASIONALLY FAILS TO ENGAGE. IT ALSO HAS DISENGAGED BY ITSELF. ONCE IT ROLLED AWAY AND KNOCKED OVER A SIGN. DEALER UNABLE TO REPLICATE PROBLEM.*AK

WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED IGNITION LIGHT CAME ON, AND VEHICLE STALLED. THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED FOUR TIMES SINCE 2001. DEALER EXAMINED THE VEHICLE NUMEROUS TIMES ,AND COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. *AK
DEFECTIVE INSTALLATION OF WIRING HARNESS CAUSED OPEN IN CRANK SENSOR WIRE. HARNESS WAS NOT PROPERLY SECURED WHICH ALLOWED CHAFFING ON CV BOOT. RESULT WAS COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER IN HIGH SPEED LANE OF SAN DIEGO FREEWAY, PLACING THE DRIVER IN EXTREME DANGER OF COLLISION FROM REAR AS CAR WAS COASTED TO SAFE SHOULDER.
AIR BAG LIGHT AND BUZZER CONSTITANTLY ON. ALWAYS SELF-TESTING. TWO CD DEALERS HAVE ACCOMPLISHED 7 DIFFERENT REPAIRS WITH NO LUCK. DEALERS ARE BLAMING CHRYSLER-DAIMLER, CD IS BLAMING DEALERS. I AM STUCH IN THE MIDDLE WITH INOPERATIVE AIR BAG SYSTEM.
DURING THE FIRST 2 MINUTES OF OPERATION, THE ENGINE HESITATES OR MISFIRES ON ACCELERATION. THIS OCCURS DURING HOT OR COLD WEATHER. WHEN SHIFTING INTO 4TH GEAR, AND ACCELERATING UNDER FULL THROTTLE, THE ENGINE / FRONT END SHAKES. THESE SYMPTOMS HAVE BEEN CONFIRMED BY A TECHNICIAN, BUT NOTHING SHOWS UP ON THERI ELECTRONIC DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. AS A RESULT CHRYSLER REFUSES TO TRY AND REMEDY THE PROBLEM.*AK
5 BATTERIES, RADIO, SPEAKERS, DOOR LOCKS, PAINT, SPEED SENSOR ON TRANSMISSION, FAN MOTOR ON ENGINE, OUTPUT SPEED SENSOR, T14 CIRCUIT ALL WITHIN 27 MONTHS. CAN'T FIND CAUSE OF ALL THESE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. CHRYSLER IS NO HELP! CUSTOMER CARE HUNG UP ON ME. LEMON LAW RAN OUT 1 MONTH AGO. UPSIDE DOWN CAN'T EVEN TRADE IN. HELP!!!!!
SINCE PURCHASE OF VEHICLE ENGINE HAS BEEN BURNING OIL INTERNALLY. DEALER HAD BEEN CONTACTED TO REMEDY PROBLEM. DEALER REBUILT ENGINE AT 2100 MILES, BUT VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING SAME PROBLEM. SINCE ENGINE HAS BEEN REBUILT, WHEN VEHICLE IS STARTED, A HUGE PUFF OF SMOKE COMES OUT FROM EXHAUST PIPE . *AK CONSUMER IS VERY UPSET WITH DEALERSHIP WHO VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FIRST, SHE FEELS THAT THEY GAVE HER THE RUNAROUND AND IS CONCERNED THAT THE ENGINE HAD TO BE REBUILT INSTEAD OF GIVEN A NEW ONE. *SLC
AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS ARE A DESIGN DEFECT BECAUSE THE DEVICE DOES NOT DO WHAT IT WAS INTENDED TO DO UNDER ALL CONDITIONS. THIS FEATURE IS SURPOSE TO LOCK THE DOORS ABOVE A SPEED OF 15 MPH. BUT IF THE VEHICLE DOORS WERE UNLOCKED WHEN THE CAR IS IN PARK AND THE ENGINE RUNNING, THEN THE VEHICLE IS THEN PUT IN DRIVE AND MOVES ABOVE 15MPH THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS DOES NOT FUNCTION LEAVING THE DOORS UNLOCK WHICH IS NOT WHAT THE DEVICE WAS DESIGN INTENT WAS, BUT THE DEALER CLAIMS IS BY DESIGN. I ALSO OWN A 1996 DODGE CARAVAN AND THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS FUNCTION UNDER ALL CONDITIONS TO LOCK THE DOORS WHEN THE VEHICLE 15MPH WHICH IS A VERY REASSURING FEATURE TO HAVE IN THE CAR. I FEEL THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS IN THE PTCRUISER DESIGN IS FAULTY IF IT DOES NOT LOCK THE DOORS AT ALL TIMES WHEN THE VEHICLE REACHS SPEEDS ABOVE 15MPH AND PROVIDES THE PASSANGERS WITH A FALSE CONDITION OF SECURITY THAT THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS WILL LOCK THE DOORS WHENEVER THE VEHICLE HAS BEGIN TO MOVE AT STREET LEGAL SPEEDS.*AK
AFTER 1 1/2 YEARS OF FRONT END PULLING, UNEVENNESS AND STEERING WHEEL WOBBLE, DEALER CONCLUDED FAULTY TIRES. GOODYEAR THEN CONCLUDED CAUSE TO BE OUT-OF-ROUND OEM CHRYSLER 16" CHROME WHEELS. GOODYEAR DID NOT REPLACE THE TIRES FREE OF CHARGE, I HAD TO PAY FOR THE PRO-RATION. AS OF THIS WRITING, AM AWAITING TO SPEAK WITH CHRYSLER SERVICE ZONE REP ABOUT THE PROBLEM. I HAVE REQUESTED CHRYSLER REIMBURSE FOR THE TWO FRONT TIRES, PAY FOR REAR TIRE REPLACEMENTS, AND REPLACE ALL FOUR CHROME WHEELS WITH NEW ONES. GOODYEAR STORE MANAGER CONFIRMED MANY PT CRUISERS HAVE BEEN IN HIS SHOP, MISDIAGNOSED BY DEALER TO BE FAULTY TIRES, ONLY TO DISCOVER THE OEM CHRYSLER CHROME WHEELS ARE OUT-OF-ROUND. ALSO TOLD ME 1) EITHER THE OEM WHEELS ARE DEFECTIVE IN MANUFACTURE, OR 2) THE DESIGN OF THE PT CRUISER IS CAUSING ONLY THE CHROME WHEELS TO BECOME OUT-OF-ROUND UPON NORMAL DRIVING/USAGE. MY GOODYEAR TIRES WERE/ARE 3/4 TREAD WORN AT JUST 22,500 MILES. NORMAL TREAD LIFE FOR THESE TIRES IS BETWEEN 45,000-50,000 MILES. DT
TIRES GOING FLAT NOT HOLDING AIR PRESSURE. ALL FOUR RIMS STARTED FLAKING AND COMING APART, HAD TO HAVE THEM RESEALED AT LEAST 4 TIMES A YEAR. WENT OUT AND BOUGHT FOUR NEW RIMS. *TR
WHILE CONSUMER WAS TRAVLING AT 15 MPH AND DROVE THROUGH A PUDDLE ENGINE SHUT OFF. CONTACTED DEALER, AND THE DEALER STATED THAT AIR INTAKE WAS FLOODED FROM WATER THAT SPLASHED UP.*AK
HEAD RESTRAINT IS OF SUCH DESIGN THAT IT WILL NOT STAY IN POSITION. IT WILL DRIFT UP, AND CONSUMER'S HEAD RESTS AGAINST METAL BARS. CHRYSLER ADMITTED THERE WAS A PROBLEM, AND THEY WERE WORKING ON IT.*AK CHRYSLER STATED TO CONSUMER THAT ALL VEHICLES MADE AFTER NOVEMBER 2000 HAVE THIS PROBLEM. *SLC
ENGINE DRIVE BELT ASSEMBLY FAILED. DEALER HAD CAR OVER 15 DAYS TO REPAIR. NOW, ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. NOT RELIABLE FOR TRAVEL. CHRYSLER UNRESPONSIVE TO CONCERNS.*AK
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE WITH REAR WINDOW OPEN, IT WOULD MAKE EXCESSIVE NOISE WHILE GOING 40MPH. ALSO, SUN ROOF WOULD MAKE A LOT OF NOISE WHEN OPENED. HAD TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, AND WAS INFORMED OF POOR DESIGN. NOTHING COULD BE DONE. *AK *SLC
DRIVER'S HEADREST KEEPS MOVING UP WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE. VEHICLE TAKEN TO DEALER, PASSENGER'S SEAT WAS REPLACED BY MISTAKE. CONSUMER IS STILL WAITING TO HAVE DRIVER SEAT REPLACED. PLEASE ADD FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
LARGE AMOUNT OF SNOW SLIDING OFF ROOF ONTO FRONT WINDSHIELD AND WINDSHIELD WIPERS ARE UNABLE TO REMOVE SNOW WHILE DRIVING. THIS COULD LEAD INTO A VEHICLE CRASH. DEALER / MANUFACTURER NOTIFIED. *AK
GOODYEAR EAGLE LS 16 IN TIRES ARE SEPARATING FROM THE SIDEWALL, DOT #NPT2BMDR. *SLC
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS FAIL TO ACTIVATE OR GO OUT. ACTIVIATING HIGH BEAMS RESTORS LOW BEAMS. HAPPENED TWICE SO FAR UPON INITIAL TURN ON. HAVE HEARD OF THEM GOING OUT WHILE DRIVING. CONCERNED!*AK
MY 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER HAS BURNED A QUART OF OIL APPROXIMATELY EVERY 900 MILES OF DRIVING SINCE IT WAS NEW. IT CURRENTLY HAS 96,000 MILES ON IT AND STILL ONLY GETS 900 MILES TO A QUART. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT CHRYSLER TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD BURN LESS AS I DROVE IT. IT NEVER DID. AS A RETIRED MECHANIC, I CAN SAY I HAVE NEVER PREVIOUSLY EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM EITHER DIRECTLY OR VICARIOUSLY WITH A CUSTOMERS CAR THAT WAS PURCHASED NEW. THOUSANDS OF OTHER PT OWNERS HAVE HAD THIS EXACT SAME OIL BURNING PROBLEM. *TR

WHILE DRIVING ON A DARK ROAD ELECTRICAL SYSTEM DISAPPEARED WITHOUT WARNING. SOMETIMES IT WAS HARD FOR HEADLIGHTS TO COME ON. DID GO OUT ONE TIME ON THEIR OWN. HAD NOT BEEN TO DEALER. *AK
I HAVE A INTERMITTENT CYCLIC VIBRATION AT SPEEDS FROM 65MPH AND ABOVE. THE FIRST TIME I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER, THEY REPLACED 3 OF THE TIRES BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT ROUND. THIS HELPED THE PROBLEM, BUT DIDN'T CURE IT. I HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TWICE MORE AND ALTHOUGH THE SERVICE MANAGER ,AFTER TAKING A TEST DRIVE WITH ME, AGREES THAT THE VIBRATION IS STILL THERE, THEY SAY THEY HAVE CHECKED EVERYTHING AND CAN'T FIND A PROBLEM. HE SAYS HE TESTED ANOTHER PT CRUISER AND IT HAS THE SAME FEEL. I HAVE TALKED THIS OVER WITH THE OWNERS SON AND I AM NOW TOLD THAT I MUST JUST LIVE WITH IT. VEHICLE STALLED, THE HOT MUFFLER CAUSED THE BUMPER TO MELT DUE TO DESIGN LOCATION, THE PROBLEM WAS MISDIAGNOSED THE FIRST TIME AND THE SECOND TIME THE DEALER FOUND THE PROBLEM TO BE A FAULTY IGNITION COIL. *SLC
WHILE DRIVING OIL WAS BLOWING THROUGH TAIL PIPE IN MASSIVE QUANTITIES. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP WANTED OWNER TO LEAVE VEHICLE TO BE CHECKED, BUT DID NOT WANT TO GIVE OWNER A LOANER VEHICLE. OWNER WAS NOT ABLE TO LEAVE VEHICLE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
DURING A RAIN STORM AND WHILE DRIVING ON THE CENTER LANE OF A THREE LANE HIGHWAY I TURNED ON MY SIGNALS AND MY WIPERS AND THE FUSE BLEW BECAUSE BOTH ARE ON THE SAME CIRCUIT. THIS DOES NOT GIVE A DRIVER THE OPPORTUNITY TO SIGNAL TO OTHERS WHILE TRYING TO PULL OFF THE ROAD BECAUSE HE CAN DOT SEE DUE TO THE RAIN. I THINK THE SIGNALS SHOULD BE SHARED WITH THE RADIO CIRCUIT. THAT WAY WHEN THE FUSE BLOWS AND YOU NO LONGER HEAR YOUR RADIO THAT MEANS YOU NO LONGER HAVE SIGNAL LIGHTS EITHER. OR PUT EACH IMPORTANT DEVICE ON ITS OWN FUSED CIRCUIT.
1. STEERING WHEEL BECAME LOOSE ON SHAFT WHILE TRAVELING AT 68-70 MPH; 2. HEADLIGHTS WOULD FLICKER FROM BRIGHT TO DIM, AND 3. FRONT WEELS OUT OF ALIGNMENT. MOST PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED BY DEALER. >> PLEASE FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS ON THIS MATTER. *AK
A POPPING, OR CRACKING SOUND OCCURS IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHEN I TURN SHARPLY TO THE LEFT, I.E. TURNING INTO A PARKING SPACE OR A DRIVEWAY, WHICH IS ALWAYS AT LOW SPEEDS. THE DEALERSHIP CHECKED IT, SAID THEY DIDN'T THINK IT WAS A PROBLEM, WOULDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO TO FIX IT, AND HADN'T GOTTEN ANY TSBS ON IT.
