TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 15-20 MPH, HE CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF A VEHICLE THAT HAD ABRUPTLY STOPPED. THE CONTACT WAS SECURED IN HIS SEAT BELT HOWEVER, THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE CHEST AND BACK. THE CONTACT DID NOT CALL THE MANUFACTURER TO REPORT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
MY FRONT WINDSHILD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING. I TOOK IT INTO THE CHRYSLER DODGE DEALERSHIP, JACKSON MI AND FOUND THE TIPM, TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT COST OF $906. I FOUND ON THE INTERNET THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON CHRYSLERS. IT IS AT THE DEALER GETTING REPAIRED. I FEEL A RECALL OF THIS IS NEEDED. IF YOU ARE OUT DRIVING AND THE WIPERS GO OUT YOU ARE IN BIG TROUBLE. JUST LUCKY WE WERE IN TOWN AND NOT ON THE EXPRESSWAY. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER, THE VEHICLE HYDROPLANED, VEERED INTO A DITCH, THEN CRASHED INTO A WALL. UPON IMPACT, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT RECEIVED INJURIES TO HIS NECK, BACK AND REAR END MUSCLES. THE POLICE WERE CONTACTED AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TOWED PENDING AN INVESTIGATION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED PENDING AN INVESTIGATION. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS FLICKERED INTERMITTENTLY. THE FAILURE PROGRESSED AND THE LIGHTS REMAINED OFF FOR LONGER PERIODS OF TIME. ADDITIONALLY, THE INTERIOR LIGHTING ILLUMINATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 167,000.
DRIVING ON EXPRESSWAY ALL THE DASHLIGHTS SUDDENLY CAME ON AND THE GAUGES STARTED BOUNCING BACK AND FORTH. ALL WENT BACK TO NORMAL FOR APPROX 10 MLS AND THEN STARTED ALL OVER AGAIN, THIS TIME THE ENGINE DIED, AFTER COMING TO A STOP, TURNING EVERYTHING OFF, IT RESTARTED. THAT WAS MY FIRST INCIDENT SINCE THEN IT HAS HAPPENED 3 MORE TIMES IN DIFFERENT DRIVING SITUATIONS.THE MECHANIC CAN NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM WHEN HE HAS IT, AND NO CODES ARE SHOWING , DO NOT FEEL VERY SAFE IN VEHICLE ANYMORE. *TR
REAR WINDOW WIPER FAILED TO OPERATE. OWNERS MANUAL DOES NOT IDENTIFY FUSE LOCATION. POWER TRACE SHOWS POWER TO UNIT, SUSPECT SOFTWARE PROBLEM WHEN OVER 75 DEGREES F. CLUTCH PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR AND VERY HARD TO SHIFT, WHEN BELOW 60 DEGREES F SHIFTS LIKE GLASS ON GLASS (VERY SMOOTH) HYD CYL. THROW VARIES WITH TEMPERATURE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE WARNING LIGHTS COME ON, STARTING WITH THE SEAT BELT LIGHT AND FOLLOWED BY THE OTHER WARNING LIGHTS, NEXT THE GAUGES ALL ZERO OUT, AND THEN THE CAR SHUTS OFF. IT HAS BEEN TAKEN TO A COUPLE OF CHRYSLER DEALERS AND TO A COUPLE OF INDEPENDENT MECHANICS, BUT NO ONE COULD FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. I CONDUCTED AN INTERNET SEARCH FOR MECHANICAL PROBLEMS WITH THIS YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL OF CAR AND FOUND MORE THAN A FEW WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AND NO SOLUTION. CHRYSLER SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. ITS REGRETTABLE THAT IT WOULD HAVE TO COME TO SOMETHING LIKE THAT FOR SOMEONE TO LOOK INTO THESE MALFUNCTIONING VEHICLES. *TR

I WAS TRAVELING ON I-95 NORTH IN THE VICINITY OF FREDERICKSBURG, VA AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, AND WITHOUT WARNING, THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. THE BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND; I PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL. I WAS TRAVELING IN THE LEFT LANE. I WAS ABLE TO PUT MY HAZARDS ON, BUT BECAUSE MY BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND, I HAD TO COAST APPROXIMATELY A MILE BEFORE MY VEHICLE ACTUALLY STOPPED. THIS WAS PARTICULARLY FRIGHTENING BECAUSE I ALSO HAD MY TWO YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME. AFTER STOPPING, I TRIED TO CRANK THE VEHICLE AND GOT NOTHING. THE RADIO AND LIGHTS CAME ON, BUT THE ENGINE WOULDN'T BUDGE. QUITE FRANKLY, I FEEL FORTUNATE TO BE ALIVE GIVEN THAT I WAS TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED ON A VERY BUSY INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. I HAD IT TOWED A REPAIR SHOP. AT FIRST THEY WEREN'T GETTING ANY DIAGNOSTIC READINGS, BUT EVENTUALLY THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS A FAILED FUEL PUMP. I HAD THE FUEL PUMP REPLACED THE NEXT DAY, AND ALTHOUGH I DID NOT DRIVE VERY FAR, THE CAR RAN FINE. THE DAY AFTER THAT, I COULDN'T CRANK THE CAR. I PURCHASED A NEW BATTERY FROM THE SAME PEOPLE WHO REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP. EVERYTHING WAS FINE UNTIL 19 NOVEMBER 2012. I DROVE MY KIDS TO SCHOOL, DROVE BACK HOME, AND WENT INSIDE FOR A FEW MINUTES. WHEN I CAME BACK OUT AND TRIED TO CRANK MY CAR, IT DIED AFTER ABOUT 10 SECONDS. I TRIED TWO MORE TIMES AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. ON MY LAST ATTEMPT I HEARD A WHIRRING SOUND BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURNOVER. I TRIED TO JUMP THE BATTERY, AND THEY DIDN'T WORK EITHER. I SPENT 20 MINUTES TRYING TO CRANK IT. MY WIFE TRIED LATER IN THE AFTERNOON WITH THE SAME POOR RESULTS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY ADVISED THAT THE SEAT BELT SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,900.

DRIVER SUFFERED A DIABETIC HYPOGLYCEMIC INCIDENT AND RAN OFF THE ROAD AND COLLIDED WITH A GUARD RAIL. THE ACCIDENT WAS A FRONTAL IMPACT THAT RESULTED IN SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE FRONT BUMPER, FENDERS, ENGINE COMPARTMENT, SUSPENSION, AND FRAME. THE ACCIDENT DAMAGED APPROXIMATELY 40' OF GUARD RAIL, INCLUDING THE END SECTION. DURING THE ACCIDENT, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE HAS A HISTORY OF INTERMITTENT AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ACTIVATION, AND HAS UNDERGONE REPLACEMENT OF SEVERAL KEY COMPONENTS OF THE CONTROL SYSTEM (I.E. SRS MODULE, CLOCKSPRING IN STEERING COLUMN, AND WIRING HARNESS UNDER FRONT PASSENGER SEAT). THE VEHICLE SPEED AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT IS UNKNOWN, BUT ESTIMATED AT LESS THAN 40MPH. WEATHER WAS CLEAR, SUNNY. TRAFFIC WAS NONE TO LIGHT CONDITIONS. ROAD CONDITIONS WERE EXCELLENT. DRIVER SUFFERED MINOR WHIPLASH NECK INJURY AND WAS TREATED/RELEASED FOR THE HOSPITAL EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT. SHOULD THE AIR BAGS HAVE DEPLOYED IN THIS TYPE OF ACCIDENT? DID THE PRIOR ISSUES AND REPAIRS OF THE AIR BAG CONTROL SYSTEM HAVE ANY EFFECT ON THE AIR BAGS NOT DEPLOYING? DID THE VEHICLE FRONTAL CRUSH ZONE AND THE IMPACT ATTENUATION OF THE GUARD RAIL SYSTEM AFFECT THE DECELERATION OF THE VEHICLE TO THE POINT WHERE THE AIR BAGS DID NOT NEED TO DEPLOY? INTERNET RESEARCH OF THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ISSUE (UNCONFIRMED BLOG-TYPE ENTRIES) INDICATES THAT OTHER VEHICLES OF THIS MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR (INCLUDING 1 - 2 PRIOR MODEL YEARS) HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN FRONT END COLLISIONS WHERE THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR
CAR DASH LIGHTS WOULD ALL LIGHT UP , (ALL INDICATION LIGHTS) THEN THE CAR WOULD SHUT OFF COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING ALL POWER WOULD GO OFF. THE CAR WON;T RESTART FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. OWNED THIS CAR APPROX. 3 MONTHS WITH PROBLEMS FROM DAY 1. FIRST WEEK TOOK IN FOR 3 FRONT END ALIGNMENTS, CAR ALWAYS PULLED TO THE RIGHT, PROBLEM NEVER FIXED. AFTER ONE MONTH WHEN SUMMER ARRIVED NO COLD AIR, HAD TO HAVE EVAPORATOR REPLACED $1,000, CAR IN SHOP FOR 2 WEEKS, AIR STILL NOT BLOWING COLD. REPLACED LOW PRESSURE SWITCH, HIGH END SWITCH, PRESSURE LINE, STILL NO COLD AIR, PROBLEM WAS NEVER RESOLVED. WOULD IDLE REAL HARD AT STOPS. TOLD IT WAS A BROKEN MOTOR MOUNT, REPLACED $150. CAR OVERHEATED, REPLACED THERMOSTAT, STILL OVERHEATING, COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHY...FINALLY THE TURBO ENGINE BLEW ON THE 3 MONTH ANNIVERSARY OF OWNING THIS CAR. HAD TO CALL BANK TO VOLUNTEER A SURRENDER DUE TO COST OF REPLACING ENGINE. CAR DEALER WAS NO HELP, JUST TOLD ME THERE WAS NOT A RECALL OR WARRANTY ON THIS VEHICLE. CALLED CHRYSLER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS DEALERS RESPONSIBILITY. WOW, I WILL NEVER OWN A CHRYSLER AGAIN, THIS WAS THE FIRST AND DEFINITELY THE LAST! *TR

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT EVENTUALLY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THAT THE 02 SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTROLS THAT ADJUSTED THE FRONT DRIVER'S SEAT WOULD FRACTURE CONTINUOUSLY AND WAS REPLACED TWICE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN, BUT THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,000. THE AIR BAG ALARM START SOUNDING ALL THE TIME (EACH +/- 5 TO 10 SECONDS). IN THE DASHBOARD SCREEN APPEARS THE SYMBOL/ LOGO TELLING ME THAT IS THE AIR BAG ALARM. *TR
ALL WARNING LIGHTS COME ON, GAUGES ON SPEEDOMETER & TACH SPIN AROUND, FYI: COIL HAD BEEN REPLACED ONE YEAR PRIOR.( VEHICLE THEN SHUTS OFF.) THE DEALER PERFORMED COMPLETE INSPECTION OF IGNITION AND FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM. NO PROBLEMS FOUND. REMOVED CYLINDER AGAIN TO INSPECT FOR ANY INTERNAL FAILURE & INTERNAL COMPONENTS ARE OK. REPLACED INJECTOR AS SAFETY MEASURE. REASSEMBLED, DROVE AND NO FURTHER ENGINE LITE FOUND. I HAVE DOCUMENTATION UP UNTIL A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS INSTALLED ON 9/29/14. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROB WITH EXACT SAME CONCERNS AND CODES EITHER DON'T SHOWUP AT THE DEALER OR ARE NOT ACCURATE. AS OF TODAY MY CAR IS DOING THE SAME THINGS AND JUST SPENT $2500 FOR NEW TRANSMISSION THAT I FEEL IT NEVER NEEDED IN THE FIRST PLACE. I FEEL THE CODES ARE NOT READING PROPERLY. HELP !!! HAVE NO MORE MONEY TO PUT INTO CAR; IT HAS ONLY 29,000 MILES RIGHT NOW. AFRAID I'LL GET REAR-ENDED SO ONLY USE ON SIDE STREETS EVEN THOUGH I HAVE FREEWAYS ACCESSIBLE TO ME. OUR PT CRUISER STARTED EXHIBITING MOMENTS OF ENGINE FAILURE AFTER ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH BOARD CAME ON. WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO OUR LOCAL MECHANIC, WHO HAS REPLACED A CHIP IN THE BOARD, BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. IT HAS BECOME VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THE PT CRUISER, ESPECIALLY ON HOT DAYS, BECAUSE THE PROBLEM BECOMES MORE PREVALENT DURING THIS TIME. WE HAVE MADE SEVERAL VISITS TO THE MECHANIC TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM SOLVED BUT ALL SUBSEQUENT VISITS HAVE NOT GIVEN US ANY RESULTS AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. *TR

ENGINE LIGHTS COME ON RANDOMLY. IDLE SPEEDS INCONSISTENT. WINDSHIELD CRACKED STRAIGHT ACROSS

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE CONTACT ROTATED THE FRONT TIRES FROM THE FRONT TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER THE ROTATION, HE NOTICED THAT THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WOULD BOUNCE WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CONTACT REMOVED BOTH REAR TIRES AND NOTICED THAT THE TREAD WAS SEPARATING FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE TIRE TO THE OUTSIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 32,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 58,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN BRAKING TO A STOP WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT ACTIVATED, THE VEHICLE WOULD START TO IDLE ROUGHLY. WHEN SHIFTING INTO REVERSE, THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT WOULD SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD SPORADICALLY REFUSE TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BUT THE STARTER WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN NEED OF ADDITIONAL REPAIRS UNKNOWN TO THE CONTACT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
2006 PT CRUISER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO CRANKSHAFT ISSUES AND VEHICLE REPAIRS *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING OIL AND THEREFORE, IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON 03/13/12. THE CONSUMER WAS CONTACTED AT THE END OF THE DAY AND INFORMED THE CRANKSHAFT HAD RUINED THE ENGINE BLOCK AND NEEDED A SHORT BLOCK REPLACEMENT AT A COST OF $4,000-5,000. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE DEALER ON 03/21/12 AND WAS INFORMED THE VEHICLE WAS READY TO BE PICKED UP. HOWEVER, UPON ARRIVAL THE NEXT DAY, THE ONLY THING THAT WAS REPLACED, WAS THE CRANKSHAFT, THE DEALER KNEW NOTHING ABOUT THE REPLACEMENT OF THE SHORT BLOCK. I WENT IN TO THE LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP ON SATURDAY, JANUARY 21, 2012 FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE. I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE AN ENGINE MOUNT. I HAD TO REPLACE ON IN SEPTEMBER OF 2010 AND I WAS QUITE SHOCKED THAT I WAS FACED WITH THIS REPAID AGAIN. IT WAS A DIFFERENT MOUNT THIS TIME. SO I ASKED THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING. I AM 57 YEARS OLD AND IN 40 YEARS OF DRIVING I HAVE NEVER EVEN HEARD ABOUT THIS HAPPENING TO ANY ONE. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS SOMEWHAT OF A DESIGN FLAW IN THE PT CRUISER AND THAT THIS PARTICULAR DEALER PERFORMS 20 TO 30 LIKE REPAIRS A WEEK.. THIS MEANS THAT THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THIS VEHICLE. MY WIFE AND I OBTAINED A 2006 PT CRUISER FROM HER FATHER IN 2008 WITH 12,980 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. IN 4 YEARS WE'VE ADDED ABOUT 12,000 MILES. STARTING LAST WINTER, BOTH WHILE BEING DRIVEN AT CITY SPEEDS (30-45 MPH) AND WHILE IDLING, THIS 2006 PT CRUISER HAS PERIODICALLY HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE LIGHTS AND GAUGES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE NEEDLES ALL SIMULTANEOUSLY SWITCH BACK AND FORTH RAPIDLY, THEN GO TO THE OFF POSITION. THE PANEL LIGHTS TURN OFF AT THE SAME TIME, THEN AFTER A FEW SECONDS TO A FEW MINUTES, THE PANEL RETURNS TO NORMAL. PRIOR TO LAST FRIDAY, 10/12/2012, THESE INCIDENTS HAD NOT PRESENTED A DANGER OR INTERFERED WITH DRIVING. HOWEVER, ON FRIDAY, MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, AND THIS TIME THE PANEL WENT HAYWIRE AS DESCRIBED BEFORE, BUT THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST ALL ENGINE POWER. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT ABOUT 75MPH SURROUNDED BY TRAFFIC WHEN SUDDENLY THE WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADES STOPPED WORKING AND I HAD ZERO VISIBILITY. AFTER I MANAGED TO GET OFF THE ROAD, THEY STARTED WORKING AGAIN AFTER ABOUT 2 MINUTES. *TR
THE NHTSA HAS PREVIOUSLY ISSUED RECALL CAMPAIGN #07V149000 REGARDING THE QUARTER GLASS ON CERTAIN PT CRUISERS SEPARATING FROM THE VEHICLE. RECENTLY, ONE OF THE QUARTER WINDOWS ON MY PT CRUISER WOULD LEAK WHILE DURING A RAIN OR GOING THROUGH THE CAR WASH. WHILE I HAD THE VEHICLE AT A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP BODY SHOP FOR SOME MINOR PAINT WORK, I HAD THEM LOOK AT THE WINDOW LEAK. THEY REMOVED THE WINDOW AND DISCOVERED THAT (2) OF THE (5) MOUNTING STUDS THAT SECURE THE GLASS TO THE VEHICLE BODY WERE PULLING LOOSE FROM THE MOLDING AROUND THE WINDOW. THE GLASS HAD TO BE REPLACED WHICH COST ME $350. I HAD CONTACTED CHRYSLER CORPORATION CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE FOR POSSIBLE REIMBURSEMENT FOR THIS EXPENSE. CHRYSLER CORPORATION DENIED MY REQUEST FOR REIMBURSEMENT STATING THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. AS THE OWNER AND OPERATOR OF THE VEHICLE, AND THIS WINDOW BEING A NON-MOVABLE PIECE OF GLASS, THERE IS NOTHING THAT I CAN DO DURING THE NORMAL OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE THAT WOULD CAUSE THE GLASS MOUNTS TO FAIL. THE ONLY OTHER WAY THAT THE MOUNTS CAN FAIL IS FROM A DEFECTIVE DESIGN OR INSTALLATION ISSUE. MY VEHICLE WAS MADE JUST ONE MONTH OUTSIDE OF THE RECALL PERIOD. I WENT ONLINE TO SEE IF THIS WAS A REGULAR PROBLEM WITH THE PT CRUISER AND ON SEVERAL WEBSITES FOUND IT WAS A CONTINUAL PROBLEM HERE IS THE RESULT OF ONE OF THE SEARCHES: I RAN INTO THAT PROBLEM WITH A CUSTOMER'S PT CRUISER THE SAME YEAR AS YOURS. WHAT I FOUND BY ACCIDENT DURING DIAGNOSIS WAS THE CONNECTORS TERMINALS THAT PLUG INTO THE FRONT CONTROL MODULE LOSE TERMINAL TENSION CAUSING INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL CONCERNS. THE WAY I FOUND IT WAS BY WIGGLING THE WIRING HARNESSES THAT GO UP UNDERNEATH THE MODULE WHICH CAUSED THE PROBLEM TO SHOW UP. I HAD TO DISSEMBLE THE CONNECTORS AND RE TENSION THE TERMINALS. THE TERMINALS ARE KIND OF DINKY ON THOSE AND IT WOULDN'T TAKE MANY PLUGGING AND UN-PLUGGING OF THE CONNECTORS TO CAUSE THE TERMINAL TO LOSE TENSION. NO FIX IS LISTED ON THE CHRYSLER WEBSITE OR ANYWHERE YET THERE A NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS. I BOUGHT THIS CAR FOR MY 16YR OLD (NOW 17) NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT UNTIL NOW. WHEN GOING DOWN THE INTERSTATE IT WENT FROM 65 TO 25 AND SHE WAS SCARED SENSELESS. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A TRAGIC ACCIDENT. IT STARTED AFTER JUMPING AND WOULD BE FINE FOR 4 MONTHS OR MORE. SINCE THEN I HAVE PINPOINTED IT TO LEAVING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION FOR JUST 2 MINUTES. THOUGHT THIS WAS WEIRD SINCE MY BATTERY WAS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD WHEN THIS FIRST START. RECENTLY, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS, TURNING SIGNALS, AND HEADLIGHTS DO NOT WORK. I CHECKED ALL FUSES, THEY ARE GOOD. I READ ONLINE ABOUT THE TOTAL INTEGRATED POWER MODULE THAT REPLACED THE 2006 INTERIOR FUSE BOXES. I READ MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. WHEN I FOUND OUT MY TURNING SIGNALS WERE NOT WORKING I THOUGHT THEY WERE THE FUSES AND HAD NO IDEA MY HEADLIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING AS THEY WORKED WHEN I CHECKED THEM AFTER THE TURNING SIGNALS WERE NOT WORKING. THAT NIGHT, I STARTED DRIVING HOME AND THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT ON A VERY DARK ROAD WITHOUT NOTICE. MY SON AND I WERE IN SERIOUS DANGER AND THE ONLY THING WE COULD DO WAS TURN ON THE HAZARD LIGHTS. THINK GOD THEY WORKED. THE BASIC SAFETY REQUIREMENTS ON A CAR SUCH AS THE ABOVE SHOULD NEVER GO BAD WITHOUT NOTICE AND WITHOUT AN EASY FIX. OUR 2006 PT CRUISER HAS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE THAT THE DEALER HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIX. WHEN TURNING ON THE VEHICLE, THE HEADLIGHTS TURN ON THE LOW BEAMS, THE BLINKERS DO NOT WORK, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS DO NOT WORK, YOU CAN NOT TURN OFF THE LOW BEAM HEAD LIGHTS, NOR CAN YOU TURN ON THE HIGH BEAMS. THE CAR WAS RECENTLY AT THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THEY INDICATED THAT THE ISSUE WAS RELATED TO THE CLOCKSPRING MECHANISM IN THE STEARING COLUMN. THEY REPLACED THE CLOCKSPRING MECHANISM. EVERYTHING WORKED CORRECTLY FOR 2 DAYS. THE PROBLEM IS NOW BACK, APPARENTLY NOT RELATED TO THE CLOCKSPRING. FRON WIND SHIELD WIPERS DO NOT WORK AND AIR BAG LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. PURCHASED A USED 2006 PT CRUISER TOURING EDTION ON 4/5/2011. TOOK IT TO DEALER AND FOUND THAT TIPM NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM A LOCAL DEALER AND DID NOT KNOW THE CAR HAD THESE PROBLEMS. IT WAS ORGINALLY THOUGHT THAT A SWITCH WAS ONLY NEEDED. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALER, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT A WIND SHIELD WIPER MOTOR AND A SWITCH FOR THE TURN SIGNALS WAS NEEDED. NOW, IT TURNS OUT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM HAS A SHORT AND THE TIPM NEEDS TO BE REPLACED (AFTER THE DIAGNOSIC TEST, OF COURSE). THIS IS GOING TO COST AT LEAST $900. UPON PURCHASING A USED 2006 PT CRUISER TOURING EDITION VEHICLE ON 3/5/2011FROM BOULEVARD PRE-OWNED IN DURHAM, NC, FOUND THAT THE WIND SHIELD WIPERS DID NOT WORK AND THE AIR BAG LIGHT KEPT COMING ON. DEALER SAID VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND HE WOULD FIX THE PROBLEMS. TOOK IT TO HIM ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, EVEN MISSED A FEW HOURS OF WORK AND MISSED DAUGHTER'S SCHEDULED DENTAL APPOINTMENT TO TRY TO GET CAR FIXED. THUS, AFTER MUCH FRUSTRATION, I DECIDED TO TAKE IT TO AN AUTHORIZED CHYRSLER DEALER FOR REPAIRS, AFTER THE DEALER FINALLY AGREED TO PAY UP TO $150 TOWARD THE REPAIR OF THE VEHICLE. ON 3/21/2011, I DROPPED THE VEHICLE OFF OVERNIGHT, SINCE THE WIND SHIELD WIPER MOTOR WAS TO ARRIVE ON 3/22/2011 (IT WAS ORIGINALLY THOUGHT THAT THE WIPER SWITCH HAD TO BE REPLACED INSTEAD). AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALER AND DOING A DIAGNOSIC TEST, I WAS TOLD I NEEDED A NEW WIPER MOTOR AND A NEW SWITCH FOR THE TURN SIGNALS, SINCE IT WAS ALSO FAULTY. NOW, ON 3/22/2011, I GET A CALL FROM THE TECHNICAN SAYING THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM HAS A SHORT AND THE TIPM NEEDS TO BE REPLACED ALSO. THIS ALONG WITH THE WIND SHIELD WIPER MOTOR WILL COST MORE THAN $900. AND THE VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE FACTORY WARRANTY ANYMORE. I HAVE TO PURCHASE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BEFORE MY 30 DAYS OF PURCHASE IS OVER. PLEASE HELP. I WORK THREE (3) JOBS, AM A SINGLE PARENT, AND IS HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE EXTERIOR LIGHTS, INTERIOR LIGHTS AND ALL OTHER ELECTRICAL FEATURES TO FAIL AS WELL.THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATING THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 112,000.

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR BY OPENING THE WINDOW AND THEN THE DOOR FROM THE EXTERIOR. THE FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR AND THE REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DOORS. THE CONTACT NOTICED A PLASTIC PIECE ON THE DOOR WOULD OVER HEAT AND CAUSE THE DOORS NOT TO OPEN FROM THE INTERIOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE DOOR PANEL HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
