WHILE DRIVING IN HEAVY RAIN, MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING IN THE MIDDLE OF A WIPE CYCLE. I COULD NOT SEE BECAUSE OFTHE HEAVY DOWNPOUR AND HAD TO SLOW DOWN TO A CRAWL AND TRY TO GET ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER PULLING OVER, THE WIPERS STARTED WORKING AGAIN. ONCE BACK ON THE ROAD, THEY STOPPED AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED A TOTAL OF 3 TIMES UNTIL I COULD GET TO AN EXIT. *TR
THE FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW OF MY 2006 PT CRUISER SPONTANEOUSLY (?) EXPLODED, SENDING SHATTERED GLASS INTO MY CAR WHILE I WAS DRIVING THROUGH A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD AT ABOUT 25 MILES PER HOUR ON A VERY TEMPERATE NIGHT. I HAD JUST STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN, AND WAS GETTING BACK UP TO NORMAL SPEED. THERE WAS ONLY ONE LOUD BANG, AND I HEARD NO OTHER SOUNDS. THERE WERE NO CARS BESIDE ME, AND I DID NOT SEE ANY ACTIVITY OUT THAT SIDE OF THE CAR THAT WOULD ACCOUNT FOR A PEBBLE BEING THROWN, OR A BB GUN BEING SHOT, ETC., ALTHOUGH IT WAS DARK OUT. IN FACT, I BELIEVE I WAS DRIVING PAST A VACANT LOT. THE INSIDE TEMPERATURE OF THE CAR AND OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WERE ABOUT THE SAME, AT ABOUT 65-70 DEGREES. I DID NOT FIND ANY FOREIGN OBJECTS WHILE CLEANING THE GLASS OUT OF MY CAR. ONLY A FEW PIECES OF SHATTERED GLASS WERE LEFT REMAINING AROUND THE EDGES OF MY WINDOW, BUT OTHERWISE THE WINDOW WAS COMPLETELY GONE. SHARP PIECES OF GLASS WERE MOSTLY IN THE FLOORBOARD AND FRONT SEAT OF MY CAR, ALTHOUGH SOME DID FLY INTO THE BACK FLOORBOARD. THERE WERE A FEW PIECES OF GLASS IN MY CUP HOLDERS IN THE CENTER CONSOLE, AND AT LEAST ONE PIECE MADE IT OVER TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE. MY ARM WAS CUT VERY SUPERFICIALLY IN ONE PLACE. *TR
I OWN A 2006 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER W/AUTOMATIC TRANS. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, INC. THE 4 CYL ENGINE IN MY VEHICLE COMPLETELY FAILED 3 SEPSRASTE TIMES, TWICE LAST YEAR, AND 1 TIME SO FAR THIS YEAR WHILE DRIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA. THIS CONDITION CAUSES THE AIR BAG TO NOT DEPLOY; EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR LIGHTS AS WELL AS ALL POWER ASSIST SYSTEMS SUCH AS STEERING AND BREAKS, AS WELL AS ALL OTHER ELECTRICAL ACCESSORIES TO FAIL. I CONTACTED THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INSTRUCTED TO TAKE MY VEHICLE INTO THE LOCAL DEALER AS I WAS ABLE TO RESTART, AS WAS I ABLE EACH TIME PREVIOUS, GIVEN I EXPERIENCED NO FURTHER PROBLEMS UNTIL LAST WEEK. HOWEVER, THE DEALER DIAGNOSTIC TEST YIELDED NOTHING WHICH COULD ACCOUNT FOR THE VEHICLE COMPLETE OPERATIONAL SHUT-DOWN. I WAS ADVISED THERE ARE NO RECALLS, OR WARRANTY, AND THE DEALER INFORMED ME TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURERS CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER TO ADVISE THEM. THE CUSTOMER CASE MANAGER INDICATED THERE WOULD BE NO ASSISTANCE FORTHCOMING AS THE DIAGNOSTIC TESTING SHOWED NOTHING CONCLUSIVE. THE LATEST FALURE MILEASE WAS 72,000.
I HAVE HAD HUGE BREAK ISSUES. I HAD TO REPLACE THREE TIMES THE BRAKES AND ROTOR IN MY CAR. IT ONLY HAS 50,000 MILES ON IT. THE FIRST INSTANCE WAS AT 28,000. THEN 40,000....AND NOW AGAIN. I'VE BEEN READING ABOUT PT CRUISER BRAKE PROBLEMS, AND HOW PREVALENT THEY ARE. I AM SURPRISED THAT NO RECALL HAS BEEN DONE. *LN
OVER THE PAST THREE WEEKS THE FRONT WIPERS HAVE BEEN WORKING INTERMITTENTLY, THIS MORNING THEY STOPPED COMPLETELY. THEY FROZE IN THE ON/UP POSITION BLOCKING MY VIEW WHILE DRIVING. THEY DID CREEP THEIR WAY DOWN AND ARE CURRENTLY STOPPED ABOUT 1/4 OF THE WAY UP ON THE WINDSHIELD. I AM CONCERNED THAT THEY WON'T WORK ON ONE OF OUR MANY RAINY DAYS IN OREGON, LUCKILY TODAY IS A DRY DAY.
THE CARS ELECTRICAL ALL TURNS OFF THE CAR STALLS AND TURNS OFF AT ALL TIMES I'VE CHANGED THE TIMING BELT TOTAL POWER INTEGRATION MODULE AND IT STILL DOES THIS. IT HAS ALMOST CAUSE AN ACCIDENT ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS STOPPING AT DIFFERENT TIMES AT INTERSECTIONS AND ON THE HWY. *TR
DRIVING ALONG WHEN POWER BRAKES FAILED SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY, DRAMATICALLY INCREASING STOPPING DISTANCE AND EFFORT TO APPLY BRAKES. CAP FOR BRAKE VACUUM POWER BOOST MISSING - CAP REPLACED. CAP MUST HAVE DISLODGED OR FELL OFF WHILE DRIVING, SINCE POWER BRAKES WORKED ON SAME TRIP PRIOR TO INCIDENT AT INTERSECTION. FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES WAITING AT INTERSECTION OR ELSE AN ACCIDENT WOULD HAVE BEEN LIKELY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD ONLY OPERATE WHEN ON THE HIGH SETTING BUT NOT ON ANY OTHER SETTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS OR REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,238 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 39,000.
I PURCHASED A 2006 PT CRUISER TOURING EDITION IN SEPTEMBER OF 2010, LESS THEN ONE MONTH LATER THE CAR BEGAN POURING OUT OIL. TOOK TO A MECHANIC WHO STATED IT WAS EITHER THE CRANK SHAFT OR CAM SHAFT SEALS. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD MAKE THE REPAIRS. THE CAR WAS RETURNED WITHIN A WEEK WITH A NEW HEAD GASKET, CAM SHAFT SEAL AND CRANK SHAFT SEAL AND SINCE IT WAS RIGHT AT 62,000 MILES A NEW WATER PUMP AND TIMING BELT. 1 MONTH LATER THE CAR WAS AGAIN LEAKING OIL. CAR IS IN SHOP CURRENTLY, NOT SURE WHAT THEY HAVE DECIDED TO DO WITH THE VEHICLE. *TR
ENGINE STARTED TO LEAK OIL. TOOK TO MECHANIC AND THEY TRIED THREE TIMES TO FIX LEAK AND COULD NOT. CRANK IS PUSHING AGAINST SEAL. TOLD US THAT WE NEED A NEW ENGINE. TAKING TO DEALER TO SEE IF WE CAN RESOLVE. *TR
IT WAS DISCOVERED DURING REPAIRS THAT BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT LOWER CONTROL ARMS WERE DEFECTIVE. HAD TO HAVE THEM REPLACED ALONG WITH OTHER DAMAGE BY TIRE DEALER. *TR
MY CAR HAD BEEN SLUGGISH WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN. IT WAS SO GRADUAL I DID NOT THINK MUCH ABOUT IT. THEN I ATTEMPTED A SHARP RIGHT TURN AND THE CAR DID NOT RESPOND WELL. DAMAGE TO BOTH LEFT TIRES AND RIMS WHEN UNABLE TO TURN CAR TO THE RIGHT. TAKEN TO TIRE CHOICE FOR REPAIRS. THEY THEN FOUND THAT THE LEFT & RIGHT CONTROL ARMS WERE DEFECTIVE. THEY HAD TO REPLACE BOTH, SAID IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH PT CRUISER. THEY CHECKED AND THERE WAS NO RECALL OF THESE PARTS, THEY EXPLAINED TO ME THAT AT ONE POINT I WOULD HAVE LOST COMPLETE CONTROL OF THE CAR DUE TO THE DEFECTIVE CONTROL ARMS. I FEEL THIS REPAIR BILL SHOULD BE COVERED THROUGH CHRYSLER AND THE RESULTING DAMAGE TO RIGHT RIMS AND TIRES SHOULD BE REIMBURSED TO ME. ACCIDENT WOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED IF CONTROL ARMS HAD NOT BEEN DEFECTIVE
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN THE CONTACT NOTICED OIL LEAKING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE CRANK SHAFT WAS LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT OIL CONTINUED TO LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REMOVED IN ORDER TO DETERMINE IF THEY COULD DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
I WAS DRIVING MY 06 PT CRUISER DOWN THE FREEWAY AT 65MPH WHEN I HEARD A WHISTLING SOUND. I LOOKED IN MY REVIEW MIRROR IS TIME TO SEE THE REAR QUARTER STATIONARY WINDOW FLY OFF AND BOUNCE ACROSS THE LANES. LUCKILY IT MISSED THE CARS BEHIND ME. IT WAS LIKE THE OTHER DESCRIPTIONS FORM NHTSA #07V-149. THE RECALL ENDED WITH 6T230885 MANUFACTURED 9/1/05. MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED AT THE SAME PLANT, AND WAS MANUFACTURED IN 10/05. I BELIEVE THAT IT AND OTHERS NEED TO BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *TR
ON AUGUST 16, 2010 WE WERE DRIVING BACK FROM AN APPOINTMENT DOING ABOUT 70MPH. IT WAS AROUND 100 DEGREES F OUTSIDE (SAN ANTONIO, TX). IRONICALLY, OUR 2006 PT HIT 42,000 MILES AND WHEN IT DID, ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS FLASHED ON AND ALL NEEDLES (SPEEDOMETER, FUEL GAUGE, TACHOMETER, ETC.) DROPPED TO THEIR "ENGINE OFF" POSITIONS. I DID NOT NOTICE ANY LOSS IN POWER AND THE EXTERIOR LIGHTS REMAINED ON. THIS HAPPENED A COUPLE OF MILES FURTHER DOWN THE ROAD AND REPEATED EVERY FEW MILES. THIS CONTINUED TO OCCUR EVEN AS WE APPROACHED OUR SUBDIVISION AT SPEEDS AROUND 30 - 40 MPH. TO DATE, THIS HAPPENS ON OCCASION AND WE HAVE ONLY EXPERIENCED ONE STALL. BEING THAT THE CAR IS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION, IT STARTED RIGHT BACK UP WHEN I RELEASED MY FOOT FROM THE CLUTCH. I HAVE HAD DIAGNOSTIC TESTS RUN BY THE DEALER, MECHANICS DRIVING THE CAR FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME, ETC. THE PROBLEM NEVER REPEATS ITSELF WITH THE MECHANICS. I HAVE SPENT $700 AND MORE WITH NO RESULTS. WE EVEN HAD THE SPARK PLUGS CHANGED SINCE THEY WERE NOT THE RECOMMENDED ONES. CHRYSLER REPLACED THE PLUGS WHICH HAD BEEN INSTALLED BY GOODYEAR. THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WOULD EXHIBIT A WARNING CHIME WHEN THE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT HAD THE AIR BAG MODULE REPLACED HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO EXHIBIT THE SAME FAILURE. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
I HAD SAFELITE COME OUT TO REPLACE MY WINDSHIELD- WHEN I TURNED ON MY VEHICLE TO HEAD TO SJ I TURNED ON MY HEADLIGHTS/FOG LIGHTS AND THEY WOULD NOT GO ON TRIED MY BLINKERS AND WINDSHIELD WIPERS NOTHING WAS WORKING ALL FUNCTIONS ASSOCIATED WITH KNOBS ON STEERING COLUMN WOULD NOT WORK. DROVE VEHICLE DOWN THE STREET ADJUSTED STEERING WHEEL A COUPLE TIMES LIGHTS CAME ON....THEN THEY WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. THE LIGHTS WILL EITHER NOT COME ON OR SHUT OFF IT IS NOW AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE 3RD TIME TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE THEY HAVE REPLACED THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND NOW THE NEW SERVICE GUY BELIEVES ITS THE MULTI-SWITCH...WE'LL SEE... I WOULD NEVER PURCHASE A PT CRUISER AGAIN MUCH LESS A CHRYSLER!!!! BTW THE PROBLEM DID SEEM CORRECTED AFTER THE 1ST REPAIR AND 2ND REPAIR HOWEVER AS SOON AS I DROVE IT 50 MILES THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN. I THANK GOD I DRIVE WITH MY HEADLIGHTS ON DURING THE DAY BECAUSE I COULD HAVE BEEN STUCK FAR FROM HOME WITH NO LIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS IN THE DARK! *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 PT CRUISER AND A GIRL DRIVING A GRAND CHEROKEE JEEP RAN A STOP SIGN AND HIT ME IN THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT FENDER AND DRIVER DOOR. MY THREE CHILDREN WERE IN THE CAR WITH ME. THE IMPACT FLIPPED MY CAR 3 OR MORE TIMES LANDING US ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. NEITHER OF AIRBAGS DEPLOYED FROM THE IMPACT. I WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH AND SHE WAS COMING DOWN A HILL TO THE STOP SIGN BUT SHOWED NO SIGN OF SLOWING DOWN. HER SPEED WAS PROBABLY AROUND 50 MPH. THE POINT OF CONTACT WAS AT THE DRIVERS DOOR AND FENDER AND IT WAS CRUSHED. THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS. I HAVE A NECK INJURY FROM THE WHIPLASH AND THE FLIPPING OF THE CAR AND NOT SURE AT THIS POINT IF IT WILL EVER GET BETTER. IT HAS BEEN 7 MTHS. I BELIEVE CHRYSLER SHOULD BE MADE LIABLE FOR THE AIRBAGS NOT DEPLOYING WITH SUCH AN IMPACT AS WE HAD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 55 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED. THE CONTACT REFUSED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE ELSEWHERE AND A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED BY THE DEALER. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND NO FAILURE CODES WERE GENERATED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENTLY MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A DEFECTIVE RELAY IN THE ENGINE. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE RELAY SWITCHES. THE FAILURE DID NOT RECUR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, SHE EXPERIENCED TWO TIRE BLOWOUTS ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE FIRST BLOWOUT WAS ON THE REAR DRIVER SIDE AND THE SECOND WAS ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE RIM AND DETERMINED THE RIM WAS THE ACTUAL CAUSE OF THE TIRE FAILURE. THE OTHER 3 RIMS WERE NOT REPLACED BECAUSE THE DEALER ADVISED THERE WERE NO DEFECTS FOUND ON THE RIMS. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED TWO ADDITIONAL TIRE BLOWOUTS DUE TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT WITH THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING REPAIRS AND A DIAGNOSTIC OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 39,000 AND THE CURRENT WAS UNKNOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH WHEN THE PASSENGER AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR REPAIRS. AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE MADE THE AIR BAG LIGHT STOPPED ILLUMINATING BUT ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL BEGAN ILLUMINATING AND FLUCTUATING INTERMITTENTLY. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
I HAVE 2006 PT CRUISER AND I AM HAVING TONS OF ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS SOMETIMES THE STEREO WILL NOT WORK.BRAKE LIGHT STAYS ON AND RUN THE BATTERY DOWN. IF YOU HAVE THE DOME LIGHT ONE AND PUT YOUR BLINKER ON TO THE RIGHT THE LIGHT GOES OUT DOESN'T DO IT ON THE LEFT, THE IGNITION SWITCH SOMETIMES HANGS UP AND WILL NOT TURN STUCK FOR A LITTLE BEFORE I CAN GET IT TO TURN OVER AND START, THEN THE AC SPOUSE HAD TO REWIRE IT BECAUSE THE COMPRESSOR WASN'T KICKING ON AND OFF, I HAVE ALWAYS OWNED A CHRYSLER AND AFTER THIS EXPERIENCE IF CHRYSLER IS NOT WILL TO HELP REPAIR THE VEHICLE I WOULD NOT OWN ANOTHER, MY HUSBAND IS OUT OF WORK AND I CANT AFFORD TO REPAIR ALL THE ISSUES THIS CAR HAS..... THIS COULD BE A FIRE HAZARD WAITING TO HAPPEN. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS EXAMINED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING FLUID IN THE VEHICLE. THE POWER STEERING FLUID WAS REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE HAD TO CONSTANTLY REPLACE THE FLUID AND WAS UNABLE TO FIND OUT WHERE THE LEAK WAS LOCATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER TO BE EXAMINED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.
TL-THE DRIVER OWNS A 2006 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45MPH THE VEHICLE OVER HEATED. SHE PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CALLED TO GET THE VEHICLE TOWED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A AUTHORIZED CHRYSLER DEALER AND SHE WAS TOLD THAT THE HEAD CASKET NEEDED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED USED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. SHE STATED THE REPAIR COST WAS FROM $1,500 TO $2,000. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE 84,000. VWB
I OWN A 2006 PT CRUISER. IN 2006, CHRYSLER REPLACED THE TRADITIONAL FUSE BOX WITH A UNIT CALLED A TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE (TIPM). THE UNIT CONTROLS POWER TO MOST AREAS OF THE CAR INCLUDING BRAKE LIGHTS, RUNNING LIGHTS, DASHLIGHTS AND HEADLIGHTS. AS I WAS DRIVING, THE DRIVER SIDE REAR RUNNING LIGHT BURNED OUT. AT LEAST THAT IS MY GUESS. THE LIGHT BULB WAS THE ONLY SHORTED ITEM COULD FIND. THIS CAUSED THE DASHLIGHTS TO GO OUT AND THE PRIMARY BRAKE LIGHTS TO GO OUT. THE BULB SHORTED ON THE INSIDE. THE TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE (TIPM) IS DESIGNED WITH NO FUSE PROTECTION BETWEEN THE LIGHTING MODULE AND THE LIGHTS. THIS SHORTED BULB SHORTED OUT THE UNIT AND MADE THE VEHICLE VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I RESEARCHED ON THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET. I FOUND MANY INSTANCES OF THE (TIPM) FAILING. I FOUND THIS IN THE CHAT ROOMS, BLOGS AND THREADS I VISITED WHILE LOOKING FOR ANSWERS. I NOTICED THAT THESE UNITS ARE INSTALLED IN MANY OF CHRYSLER'S CARS AND BASED UPON WHAT I LEARNED HAVE BEEN PROBLEMATIC. IN ALL THE INSTANCE OF FAILURE, THE CAR IS DRIVING AND THERE IS NO NOTIFICATION TO THE DRIVER THAT THE UNIT HAS FAILED OTHER THEN THE LIGHTS GO OUT. THE UNITS ARE BUILT AS A SINGLE UNIT AND THE WIRING HARNESS IS PART OF THE UNIT. YOU CANNOT REPAIR THE UNIT. I HAVE BEEN VERBALLY QUOTED TO REPLACE THIS UNIT THE COST WILL BE AROUND $975. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT HAVING A $2.50 BULB TRASH A MAJOR SAFETY COMPONENT OF A CAR IS A BAD THING. WILL YOU LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM AND SEE IT IS FIT FOR A RECALL? IT APPEARS THAT THE CRANKSHAFT ON 2006 PT CRUISERS DOES HAVE A INHERENT BUILT-IN FLAW THAT ALLOWS THE CRANKSHAFT TO MOVE ALONG ITS AXIS MORE THAN IT SHOULD. AFTER A WHILE THIS CAUSES THE MAIN CRANK SEAL TO POP OUT AND A SIGNIFICANT OIL LEAK TO HAPPEN. IT LOOKS FROM READING OVER VARIOUS FORUMS THAT THIS PROBLEM OCCURS AS EARLY AS 10,000 MILES AND IS KNOWN BY CHRYSLER ALTHOUGH NOT YET CLASSIFIED AS A RECALL. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE A MAJOR OIL LEAK WHILST RUNNING CAN HAVE MAJOR CONSEQUENCES FOR THE USER AND OTHERS. SHE DROVE INTO A PARKING LOT, TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED IT; THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO RESET ITSELF AFTER THE RESTART. THE CONTACT CALLED AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT PERFORM A DIAGNOSTIC TEST BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT HAD NOT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 36,000.

THERE IS A SHORT JUMPER FUEL LINE (PLASTIC) THAT CONNECTS THE MAIN FUEL LINE THAT RUNS FROM THE TANK UP TO THE FIRE WALL WITH THE FUEL RAIL. THIS LINE LEAKS FUEL WHERE IT CONNECTS TO THE MAIN LINE. IT HAS BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES AND CONTINUES TO LEAK. THIS IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE THIS LINE IS ONLY A FEW INCHES FROM THE TURBO OR EXHAUST AND ON A RIGHT HAND TURN COULD DRIP ON TO THE TURBO OR EXHAUST AND IGNITE. ALSO IF SITTING IN TRAFFIC OR DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS WITH THE A/C OR HEATER ON IT MUST BE KEPT IN RECIRCULATE OR THE SMELL OF FUEL ENTERS THE CABIN. PLEASE NOTE THAT I AM A ASE CERTIFIED MASTER TECHNICIAN AND BESIDES OWNING A PT CRUISER HAVE WORKED ON SEVERAL OTHERS AND ALMOST EVERY SINGLE ONE HAS THIS PROBLEM WHETHER IT IS A TURBO ENGINE OR NOT. THE DEALER WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE THERE IS NO RECALL ON IT. I AM PRETTY CERTAIN IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE EXPERIENCES AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. ANYONE OWNING A PT CRUISER SHOULD HAVE THIS LINE INSPECTED TO SEE IF IT IS LEAKING AND IF SO FILE A SIMILAR COMPLAINT. IT IS VERY EASY TO SPOT AS THE LINE WILL APPEAR WET OR COVERED IN MOIST DIRT AT THE CONNECTOR. ALSO WITH THE ENGINE NOT RUNNING THERE WILL BE A VERY STRONG FUEL SMELL TOWARDS THE BACK OF THE ENGINE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. FOR THOSE LIKE MYSELF THAT ALSO DETEST THE LOUSY FUEL ECONOMY THIS CAR GETS, THE FUEL LEAK MENTIONED ABOVE IS SURELY A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR. WHAT REALLY BOTHERS ME THE MOST IS THAT IF YOU ASK ANY CHRYSLER DEALER (ASK THE TECH) THEY WILL TELL YOU THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM SO THERE IS NO DOUBT CHRYSLER IS AWARE. MY DAUGHTER'S 2006 PT CRUISER WAS INVOLVED IN A MINOR FENDER BENDER IN A WALMART PARKING LOT. HER CAR WAS STRUCK ON THE LEFT FRONT BUMPER FROM A 90 DEGREE ANGLE. NEITHER VEHICLE COULD HAVE BEEN GOING MORE THAN 15 MPH. THE IMPACT KNOCKED THE FRONT BUMPER LOOSE, PUSHED IN THE GRILL, AND BUCKLED THE HOOD SLIGHTLY ON THE PT CRUISER. IT DID NOT CATCH THE FENDER AS THE LEFT FRONT HEADLIGHT LENS ASSEMBLY WAS NOT BROKEN. WITHIN A FEW SECONDS OF THE IMPACT, MY DAUGHTER SIGHTED FLAMES IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHICH WERE VISIBLE UNDERNEATH THE BUCKLED HOOD. SHE AND HER PASSENGER IMMEDIATELY GATHERED THEIR PERSONAL BELONGINGS AND EXITED THE CAR. BOTH MY DAUGHTER AND THE OTHER DRIVER CALLED 911 BUT EVEN WITH THE FIRE DEPARTMENT 300 YARDS AWAY, THE FIRE DESTROYED THE VEHICLE. WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A $1500 BUMPER REPLACEMENT AND BODY SHOP JOB RESULTED IN A TOTALED VEHICLE DUE TO THE FIRE. THE POLICE DID NOT CITE EITHER DRIVER. *TR

THE NEXT WEEK, THE NEW SEAL FAILED AND OIL BEGAN LEAKING AGAIN. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO ADVISED HER TO RETURN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP AND NOT IN DRIVABLE CONDITION AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SHE THEN CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AGAIN AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT ASSIST HER WITH ANY OF THE REPAIR COSTS. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 66,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 66,060.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT FAILED TO OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 83,000.

I HAVE A 2006 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER 15084 MILE THE CAR WOULDN'T START I PUT A NEW BATTERY IN IT. IT STARTED. THE NEXT DAY THE CAR WOULDN'T START I JUMPED IT AND IT STARTED. I PUT A SMALL 2 AMP CHARGER ON IT AND THE NEXT MORNING IT STILL WOULDN'T START. I JUMPED STARTED IT WITH NO PROBLEM AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER IMPERIAL CHRYSLER AFTER THE FIRST HOUR THEY THE SERVICE WRITER TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO LEAVE IT. THE SERVICE TECH TOOK ME OUT THE CAR TO SHOWED ME THAT THERE WAS A ELECTRICAL DRAW OF 5 AMPS BUT HE COULDN'T FIND IT, WHEN HE PUT HAND ON THIS PART CALLED THE PCD BOX THE HEAVY WIRE GOING INTO IT WAS RED HOT AND AT THE POINT WHERE THE WIRE GOES INTO THE BOX. HE THEN STATED THE SHORT IS IN THIS BOX I WOULD HAVE TO LEAVE IT. WHEN I CALL ABOUT MY CAR THE CHARGE WAS GOING TO BE OVER $900.00. I TOLD HIM I WOULD BE GOING IN TO SEE HIM. THE DEALERSHIP AND THE SERVICE WRITER WERE VERY GOOD THE VEHICLE WAS JUST OVER THE WARRANTY. THERE WERE GOING TO CHARGE ME $453.39 THEY SAID HALF. I PAID IT. THE PROBLEM I HAVE IS THAT THE PDC BOX IS LOCATED BEHIND THE BATTERY AND CONTAIN FUSES IN IT. I BEEN DRIVING OVER THIRTY YEARS AND I NEVER SEEN THIS. THE NEW BOX IS OPENED ON THE SIDE THERE IS NOTHING KEEPING MOISTURE OUT. I HAD FOUND OTHER RECALLS ABOUT A WATER MOISTURE GETTING INTO ANOTHER PART OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. LAST WINTER THE REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER QUIT WORKING COMPLETELY. NOW THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL NOT WORK ON HIGH AND WHEN THEY ARE TURNED ON HIGH, THEY JUST STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD. SOMETIMES WHEN I TURN THEM OFF THEY WILL GO ALL THE WAY DOWN AND THEN ABOUT 1/4 OF THE WAY BACK UP AND JUST STOP. I AM CONCERNED THAT I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SEE OUT THE BACK WINDOW AND THAT THE FRONT WIPERS WILL COMPLETELY STOP WHEN I AM DRIVING. I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SEE AND IT WILL RISK OTHER DRIVERS AND PEOPLE DURING HARD RAIN OR SNOW. I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS AND SOME CANNOT EVEN DRIVE THE VEHICLES. I HAVE CHECKED THE FUSES, REPLACED THE BLADES, MADE SURE THERE IS WASHER FLUID AND HAD A MECHANIC TELL ME THAT HE HAS HAD COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME THING. VEHICLE HAD TO BE DRIVEN HOME IN THE RAIN WITHOUT THE USE OF WINDSHIELD WIPERS. 4- CUSTOMER INITIALLY REPLACED THE WIPER SWITCH INITIALLY WITH NO RESULTS, WIPER MOTOR WAS NOT RECEIVING OPERATIONAL CURRENT 5- VEHICLE HAD TO BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS (SPECIAL EQUIPMENT REQUIRED TO TEST), FAILURE WAS FOUND IN THE TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE (TIPM), THE CONTROLLER FOR ALL VEHICLE NETWORKED ELECTRONICS, INCLUDING SAFETY DEVICES SUCH AS WINDSHIELD WIPERS. DEALER REPLACED THE TIPM AND THE WIPERS REGAINED OPERATION. COST OF THE REPAIR $833.00 US. *TR
DAUGHTER WAS STOPPED IN TRAFFIC WAITING FOR TRAFFIC LIGHT TO CHANGE. BOX TRUCK BEHIND HER DID NOT STOP AND REAR ENDED THE PT CRUISER, PUSHING IT INTO THE BACK OF A DUMP TRUCK IN FRONT OF HER. AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. IF AIRBAGS DID DEPLOY SHE MAY NOT HAVE SUFFERED WHIPLASH INJURY. *TR
I OWN A 2006 PT CRUISER BASE MODEL. WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ACTIVATED, THE ENGINE WOULD IDLE LOW WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED IN TRAFFIC, A STOP SIGN, OR RED LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WOULD ALMOST STALL BEFORE RESUMING NORMAL OPERATION. WHEN STOPPED, WARM OR HOT AIR WOULD BLOW THROUGH THE VENTS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAN MODULE REPAIR WOULD COST $700. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. STILL NO LIGHT ON LEFT SIDE. PUT A VOLT METER ON PIGTAIL , MEASURED 11.9 VOLTS, BUT SOON AS THE BULB TRIED TO LIGHT THE VOLTS WENT TO 0. SO UNDER A LOAD THE VOLTS DROP. IT WONT EVEN LIGHT A FLASHLIGHT BULB. SOON AS YOU TAKE THE LOAD OFF THE PIGTAIL IT RETURNS TO 12 VOLTS. *TR
2006 PT CRUISER UNDER 60,000 MILES AND I HAVE REPLACED THE REAR TAIL LIGHT BULBS TWICE. IT IS AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR AC REPAIRS (THEY FOUND A BAD LOW PRESSURE SWITCH AND FAN) AND NOW I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE NOT FUNCTIONING AND IT IS APPARENTLY CORRODE TERMINALS AND BOTH LAMP ASSEMBLIES HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,000.
