SHORTLY AFTER FILLING UP WITH FUEL, THE VEHICLE STALLS AND DIES. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES AND WE HAVE TRIED A FEW DIFFERENT SERVICE REMEDIES (FUEL ADDITIVES) WITH NO IMPROVEMENT. WE HAVE NOTICED THAT THIS ONLY HAPPENS AFTER FILL UP USUALLY IN TRAFFIC AT LESS THAN OPPORTUNISTIC TIMES. FORTUNATELY NO ACCIDENTS YET. *TR
ENGINE STALLED AFTER FILL UP WITHOUT ANY WARNING. AFTER REFILL AS CAR LEFT GAS STATION ENGINE RPM WENT DOWN AND ENGINE STALLED. IT HAPPENED IN UNEXPECTED PLACES LIKE ENTERING BUSY ROAD OR STARTING FROM TRAFFIC LIGHT. DRIVER GETS NO WARNING LIKE CHECK-ENGINE LIGHT INDICATOR AND ENGINE JUST STOPS. ASKED DEALER TO CHECK THE PROBLEM FEW TIMES, BUT MINIVAN WAS RETURNED BACK AND DEALER COULD NOT REPRO THE PROBLEM. DID NOT FEEL SAFE TO DRIVE AS I HAD NO IDEA WHEN TO EXPECT ENGINE TO STOP WORKING, TILL I FOUND INTERNET FORUMS MENTIONING THIS FAILURE AND THE ONLY WAY TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE WAS TO REPLACE FUEL TANK. *TR
CORRODED VALVE STEM ON A TPMS SENSOR BROKE WHEN REMOVING THE VALVE CAP TO CHECK THE TIRE PRESSURE. HAD TO REPLACE THE TPMS SENSOR FOR THE CUSTOMER. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 25 MPH WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT THEN NOTICED THAT THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WAS INDICATING THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OVERHEATING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS ADVISED TO THE CONTACT THAT THE ENGINE OIL HAD BECOME TOO HOT AND WAS CLOGGING THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE TO THE CONTACT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
AFTER FILLING THE VEHICLE FULL WITH GAS AND DRIVING AWAY THE VEHICLE WILL BUCK, SURGE OR STALL AT RANDOM TIMES IN THE FIRST 2-5 MINUTES OF USE. TRICKY PULLING OUT OF LOT OR INTO TRAFFIC AS CAR WILL STALL AND MAKE VEHICLE HARD TO TURN. CHRYSLER SAID THE KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM AND THE WERE WILLING TO SPLIT THE REPAIR WITH ME.($700 OUT OF MY OWN POCKET). SO I JUST DON'T FILL IT ALL THE WAY. CANT SELL OR TRADE THE VEHICLE IN BECAUSE I DON'T WANT BLOOD ON MY HANDS IF SOMEONE GETS HURT. *TR
THE INTERNAL VALVE IN THE FUEL TANK IS STUCK OPEN ALLOWING LIQUID FUEL TO ENTER AND SATURATE THE EVAP CANISTER WITH FUEL DURING A FUEL FILL UP. WHEN THE EVAP SYSTEM PURGES THE CANISTER, LIQUID FUEL IS DRAWN INTO THE INTAKE MANIFOLD CAUSING AN OVER RICH AIR/FUEL CONDITION THAT WILL CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STALL WITHIN 5 MINUTES OF THE FUEL FILL UP. IF THE STALL OCCURS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS AT LOW SPEEDS AND STEERING AROUND A CORNER, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILS SUDDENLY. THIS CAN MAKE THE VEHICLE UNCONTROLLABLE DURING A TIGHT LOW-SPEED TURN WITH THE POTENTIAL TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE JACK WAS USED TO REPLACE THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE WHEN THE VEHICLE CAVED IN ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY EXTREME RUST. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY THE DEALER. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 95,000.
THE AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ILLUMINATED AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE. *TR
WHILE ACCELERATING TO MERGE ONTO HIGHWAY, LOST ENGINE POWER AND POWER STEERING. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES AFTER REFUELING. NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHRYSLER TOWN COUNTRY. WHILE PARKED, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR BUT IT WOULD NOT OPEN MANUALLY OR ELECTRONICALLY AND THE DOOR COULD NOT BE OPENED FROM THE INTERIOR OR EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS A MECHANIC AND HAD INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT FOUND THAT THE ELECTRONIC DOOR ACTUATOR WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 119,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING AFTER REFUELING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, BUT WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A FAILURE CODE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. AFTER IMPACT WITH A HIGH CURB IN A PARKING LOT DOING APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES PER HOUR, BOTH FRONT AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE IN A 2005 RECALL BY CHRYSLER BUT NOT THE 2004. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE DEALT WITH IMMEDIATELY. *KB
EVERY TIME THIS VEHICLE IS FILLED UP WITH GASOLINE, (87, 89 OR HIGHER OCTANE IT DOESN'T MATTER), IT STARTS TO STALL & BUCKS AS THE ENGINE RPMS FLUCTUATE WILDLY FROM 600 TO 3000 PLUS. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME THAT IT IS FILLED UP TO FULL & HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR MORE THAN 1 YEAR. NOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. IF I ONLY FILL IT UP TO 3/4S OR EVEN JUST LESS THAN FULL, THE STALLING PATTERN DOES NOT OCCUR. I HAVE LEARNED TO EXPECT IT & EITHER FILL IT UP JUST SHY OF FULL OR I DRIVE THE VAN LIKE A STANDARD, (ONE FOOT ON THE BRAKE & THE OTHER ON THE GAS). HOWEVER, I FEEL THAT THIS IS ONLY A CHEAP BAND-AID FOR A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE THAT WARRANTS A FULL RECALL. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN REPORTED MULTIPLE TIMES & IT WOULD BE A SHAME IF IT TOOK A SERIOUS ACCIDENT FOR NHTSA OR CHRYSLER TO ACT ON THE PROBLEM. ESPECIALLY IF IT HAPPENS TO BE MY WIFE OR MY TWO TEENAGE AGE CHILDREN THAT ARE INVOLVED IN ANY ACCIDENT. PLEASE ACT NOW! *TR
PURCHASED VAN USED FROM A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN MAY OF 2010. REPORTED WITHIN DAYS TO DEALERSHIP THAT VAN HAD A STUTTER WHEN AT IDLE. THEY GAVE IT A TUNE UP BUT IT DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. WARRANTY PURCHASED WITH VAN DID NOT COVER THE FUEL SYSTEM. STUTTERING CONTINUED AND BECAME WORSE AS THE YEARS WENT BY. VAN BEGAN TO DIE WHEN IDLING, ESPECIALLY IF TURNING LEFT WHICH PUT US IN DANGER A NUMBER OF TIMES. ALSO, WE SMELLED FUEL. WE REPLACED THE TANK IN 2013. HOWEVER, OUR MECHANIC INFORMED US AT THE TIME THAT IT HAD A DESIGN FLAW AND THE SAME ISSUES WOULD OCCUR IN A MATTER OF TIME. TANK WAS FINE FOR TWO YEARS. WITHIN A MONTH OF THE WARRANTY EXPIRING IT BEGAN TO STUTTER AT IDLE AGAIN. IT HELPS TO NOT FILL THE TANK COMPLETELY. HOWEVER, IT SMELLS OF FUEL AND CONTINUES TO STUTTER AT IDLE. WE WILL NOT SPEND ANOTHER $1500 TO REPLACE THE TANK AS WITH THE DESIGN FLAW THE ISSUE WILL JUST REOCCUR. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO RECALL THE GAS TANK AND CREATE A DESIGN FREE OF FAULTS.
ENGINE STALLS FIVE MINUTES AFTER FILLING UP THE GAS TANK WITH FUEL. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME AFTER A FILL-UP. THE STALL CAN OCCUR WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THE ROOT CAUSE IS DUE TO A FAILURE OF A VALVE IN THE FUEL TANK WHICH IS DESIGNED TO PASS GASOLINE VAPORS TO THE EVAP CANISTER WHEN FUEL IS ADDED TO THE FUEL TANK. DURING A COMPLETE FILL-UP OF THE FUEL TANK, LIQUID GASOLINE IS PASSING THRU THE DEFECTIVE VALVE INTO THE EVAP CANISTER. WHEN THE EVAP CANISTER IS PURGED, LIQUID FUEL IS SUCKED INTO THE ENGINE MANIFOLD, CAUSING AN EXTREMELY RICH FUEL/AIR MIXTURE. THE RICH MIXTURE CAUSES THE ENGINE TO STALL. THE ENGINE IS DIFFICULT TO RESTART BECAUSE OF THE EXTRA FUEL PRESENT IN THE MANIFOLD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT RECENTLY PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE REAR BEAM AXLE DEVELOPED EXTREME RUST. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE MOUNTS THAT HELD THE REAR LEAF SPRINGS WERE ALMOST COMPLETELY RUSTED AS WELL. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WAS LOOSING OIL ABNORMALLY, BUT THERE WAS NO SIGNS OF WHERE THE OIL WAS LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 101,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH THE TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTIONED AND IT WAS DIFFICULT TO SHIFT GEARS. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE ALSO BEGAN TO STALL. THE CONTACT DID NOT CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE TRANSMISSION. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A CRASH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
MY VAN COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN AFTER I FILLED THE TANK WITH GAS. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HAPPEND BUT I HAD NO POWER TO STEER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND HAD TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND TRY TO RESTART IT SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IT STARTED AGAIN. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM EVERY TIME I FILL THE TANK, FROM ANY LEVEL OF GAS. IF I CAN LEAVE THE GAS STATION AND TRAVEL TO .7 MILES WITH CONSTANT PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDAL, IT SOMETIMES WON'T DIE. IF I HAVE TO BRAKE, THE ENGINE COMPLETELY CHOKES OUT. I HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIX IT BECAUSE THEY NEEDED TO BE ABLE TO FILL IT TO SEE IT HAPPEN AND THEY WEREN'T GOING TO DO THAT. FINALLY AFTER A YEAR OF THIS PROBLEM AND A MULTITUDE OF OTHERS, I CALLED CHRYSLER USA AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN, I HAD A MANAGER AT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT VOLUNTEER TO RIDE WITH ME TO SEE IT HAPPEN. SURE ENOUGH IT DID AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK AND FUEL LINE...... *JS
MY 2004 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY MINIVAN STALLS EVERYTIME AFTER I GET GAS. I HAVE TRIED FUELING UP WHEN MY TANK IS HALF EMPTY INSTEAD OF CLOSE TO EMPTY AND NOTHING SEEMS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. THIS IS BECOMING INCREASINGLY DANGEROUS AS I DON'T DARE DRIVE FAR AFTER FUELING UP. ONE TIME I WAS TURNING THE CORNER AND MY CAR DIED AND I COULD NOT STEER THE VEHICLE AND ENDED UP ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD. THANK GOD NO ONE WAS ON THE OTHER SIDE OR I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND WHO KNOWS WHAT THE EXTENT OF THE INJURY WOULD BE! I HAVE TO MAKE SURE I GO STRAIGHT HOME AFTER GETTING GAS DUE TO THE SERIOUS OF THIS PROBLEM. AFTER I GO HOME AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND USE IT THE NEXT DAY IT DOES NOT STALL. I HAVE TRIED TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AFTER FUELING AND RESTARTING IT AND IT STILL STALLS. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING AS I ONLY HAVE 60,000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE AND HAVE ALWAYS MAINTAINED IT. MY DEALERSHIP IS OUT OF BUSINESS SO I CAN'T EVEN ADDRESS THE ISSUE WITH THEM. THIS IS EXTREMELY UPSETTING AND SO AGGRAVATING AND MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL. WHAT CAN I DO AND WHO WILL HELP ME. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM , IT SEEMS TO BE WIDESPREAD. I DON'T FEEL I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS TO BE FIXED AS OBVIOUSLY THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR APPROXIMATELY 6 TO 8 MONTHS ALTHOUGH IT COULD BE LONGER I HAVE LOST TRACK IT HAS HAPPENED SO OFTEN. I HAVE REALLY COME TO DREAD WHEN I NEED GAS. *TR
VEHICLE STALLS AFTER FILLING WITH GAS. I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A FUEL, VAPOR, WATER SEPARATOR THAT SITS ON TOP OF THE GAS TANK. I STARTED HAVING THIS PROBLEM IN EARLY 2006. I'VE PUT UP WITH IT AND NOT LEFT THE GAS STATION UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING PROPERLY. ONCE I NEARLY HAD AN ACCIDENT WHEN ENTERING AN INTERSTATE ENTRANCE RAMP AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED WITH A RECALL. SOMETIMES IT IS HARD TO REMEMBER WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE AFTER GASSING UP. *TR
2004 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY VAN. AFTER ALMOST EVERY GAS FILL UP, AS YOU PULL INTO TRAFFIC, WITHIN SECONDS THE VEHICLE BEGINS TO STALL, CAUSING IT TO JERK VIOLENTLY WITH THE ENGINE STOPPING. VERY DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC AS WE WERE ALMOST IN SEVERAL TRAFFIC CRASHES. WILL STALL SEVERAL TIMES IN A ROW. VAN WILL EVENTUALLY START AND WILL EVENTUALLY GO, USUALLY SHAKING A FEW SECONDS LONGER. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM IN THESE VANS. WAS INFORMED IT IS RELATED TO THE VAPOR/LIQUID SEPARATOR VALVE AT THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. THERE IS NOT A SIMPLE FIX EXCEPT FOR AN EXPENSIVE REPLACEMENT OF THE GAS TANK. SINCE THIS IS SUCH A COMMON PROBLEM, I FEEL THIS IS A DANGEROUS DEFECT AND SHOULD BE REPLACED BY A RECALL. LAST INCIDENT AROUND JANUARY 16, 2911. *TR
TRANSMISSION STUTTER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THE LOW AND HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST THAT LOCATED THE FAILURE WITHIN THE POWER DISTRIBUTION BOX. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 107,000.
IMMEDIATELY AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK AND RESTARTING ENGINE THE ENGINE WILL STALL WITHIN THE FIRST 100 YARDS OF TRAVEL. THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM THAT HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES ALWAYS RIGHT AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK. THIS CREATES A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD AS YOU LOOSE CONTROL OF THE STEERING, ENGINE POWER RIGHT AS YOUR ARE TRYING TO ENTER TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO MULTIPLE SERVICE SHOPS BOTH CHRYSLER AND OTHER AND THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO BE CORRECTED. *TR
AFTER REFILLING THE TANK AT ANY GAS STATION AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, IT RUNS ROUGH AND STALLS. THE STALL CAN OCCUR ANYTIME FROM RIGHT AFTER THE ENGINE RESTART OR UP TO 5 MINUTES AFTER RESTART. THE CAR HAS STALLED IN THE GAS STATION ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS SINCE FIRST NOTICED IN DEC 2010 AND SEVERAL TIMES ON THE ROAD IN TRAFFIC. A WEB SEARCH INDICATED THAT THERE WAS AN APPARENT ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLES FUEL TANK AND "PURGE" VALVE. I FOUND DOZENS & DOZENS OF COMPLAINTS. THIS SEEMS TO FIT INTO A SAFETY RECALL CATEGORY. PLEASE INVESTIGATE
2004 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY STALLS AND DIES AFTER FILLING UP THE GAS TANK. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME WE FILL UP THE VAN. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING MY 3YR OLD TO PRESCHOOL TODAY AND IT DIED ON HER SEVERAL TIMES WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. VAN STALLS AFTER FILLUPS. LOSE POWER AND CONTROL OF VAN WHEN ACCELERATING ONTO ROAD. VERY DANGEROUS. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE MINI VANS. CHECK THE INTERNET AND YOU WILL SEE. I AM NOT SURE WHAT TO DO. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY MINI VAN. FOR THE LAST 30,000 MILES EVERYTIME I FILL UP WITH GAS THE ENGINE WILL EITHER GO THROUGH SOME MAJOR HESITATIONS OR IN MANY CASES IT WILL STALL WITHIN THE FIRST FEW MINUTES OF DRIVING, OR IF I HAVE TO COME TO A STOP SHORTLY AFTER I REFUELED. THE VAN WILL RESTART, (WITH SOME EFFORT) AND WILL NOT STALL AGAIN UNTIL AFTER THE NEXT REFUELING. SPOKE TO SEVERAL MECHANICS CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM AND THEY INDICATED THAT THE ROLL-OVER SWITCH LOCATED IN THE TANK MAY BE DEFECTIVE, MAY HAVE BEEN SPLASHED/FLOODED WITH FUEL, OR THE TANK WAS OVER FILLED. TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM I WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK SINCE THE SWITCH ITSELF IS NOT A SERVICEABLE ITEM. *TR
PURCHASED 4 TIRES (TOYO OBSERVE GP4, 215/65R16 980, DOT: CXHB 7EM219<) IN FALL 2003 (FROM LES SCHWAB TIRE COMPANY) TO BE USED ON A 2002 CHRYSLER T&C AND LATER A 2004 CHRYSLER T&C (THE 2002 CHRYSLER T&C WAS REPLACED IN APRIL 2004 WITH A 2004 CHRYSLER T&C). NOTE THE TIRES WERE OVER 4 YEARS OLD WHEN PURCHASED NEW FROM THE DEALER. THE TIRES ARE WINTER TRACTION TIRES AND WERE MOUNTED ON THEIR OWN RIMS AND USED EACH YEAR DURING THE PERIOD NOVEMBER - MARCH. THE TIRES WERE STORED (MOUNTED) DURING THE PERIOD APRIL - OCTOBER AND WERE NOT USED DURING THAT PERIOD. ONE TIRE WAS DAMAGED AND REPLACED IN NOV 2005 BY A TIRE WITH DOT: CXHB 95K1304). THE LAST TIME THE TIRES WERE USED WAS THE PERIOD NOVEMBER 2008 - MARCH 2009. THE TIRES WERE USED EACH YEAR FOR ABOUT 5000 MILES. THE SUGGESTED MAXIMUM INFLATION PRESSURE FOR THESE TIRES IS 44 PSI; THE TIRES WERE USED WITH AN INFLATION PRESSURE OF 40 PSI. THIS REPORT CONCERNS THE REMAINING THREE DOT: CXHB 7EM219< TIRES (PHOTOS ARE AVAILABLE). ON JULY 25, 2010, THE FOLLOWING WAS DISCOVERED WHILE THE TIRES WERE IN STORAGE: A. TIRE #1 TIRE HAD A MASSIVE TREAD SEPARATION ( TREAD SPLIT APART) WHICH COVERED OVER 1/3 OF THE CIRCUMFERENCE, PLUS ADDITIONAL PORTIONS OF THE TREAD WERE STARTING TO SEPARATE. B. TIRE #2 HAS VERY NOTICEABLE DELAMINATION OF THE TREAD, BUT NO TEARING. C. TIRE #3 HAS A FEW DETECTABLE INDICATIONS THAT TREAD SEPARATION IS IN VERY EARLY STAGES. THE TIRES HAVE NOT YET BEEN RETURNED TO THE DEALER UNDER THEIR WARRANTY, BUT WILL BE RETURNED IN EARLY FALL. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE TIRES WERE IN SUMMER STORAGE WHEN THE TREAD SEPARATION WAS FOUND. IF THE TIRES HAD BEEN MOUNTED ON THE CAR WHEN THE TREAD SEPARATION OCCURRED THERE COULD HAVE BEEN UNFORTUNATE CONSEQUENCES. TIRE DOT: CXHB 95K1304 IS NOT PART OF THIS COMPLAINT. *TR
FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS, EVERY TIME WE FILL THE GAS TANK ON OUR 2004 TOWN & COUNTRY IT STALLS AFTER DRIVING BEGINS. ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS IT HAS STALLED IN FRONT OF SEVERAL LANES OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE ENGINE TOTALLY DIES AND ALL POWER STEERING IS LOST. AFTER RESTARTING IT RUNS FINE. WE HAVE HAD MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WHERE COLLISIONS HAVE BEEN BARELY AVOIDED AND THIS IS MY WIFE AND CHILDREN IN THAT VAN. IT HAS BEEN REPORTED ON MULTIPLE ONLINE AUTOMOTIVE FORUMS AS A COMMON PROBLEM. THE CHRYSLER MECHANIC IMMEDIATELY NEW THE PROBLEM WHEN I DESCRIBED THE SYMPTOMS. HE SAID IT IS CAUSED BY A FAULTY SENSOR IN THE FUEL TANK AND THEY SEE IT VERY FREQUENTLY BUT UNFORTUNATELY CHRYSLER DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND I HOPE CHRYSLER DECIDES TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND IT DOES NOT TAKE A LOSS OF LIFE TO GET THEIR ATTENTION. ENGINE STALLS EACH TIME THE FUEL TANK IS FILLED. THIS HAPPENS ONLY ONCE PER FILL UP AND ONLY AFTER LEAVING THE FUEL STATION AND ENTERING THE ADJACENT ROADWAY. THIS IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION AS THERE IS NO WARNING AND NO POWER TO STEER AND PULL OFF THE ROAD TO RE-START. RE-STARTING CAN TAKE A WHILE TO ACHIEVE IN TRAFFIC. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE IDENTICAL FAILURES AS MENTIONED IN THE RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V386000 (STEERING: HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST: HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE SITTING IDLE WITH THE ENGINE OFF. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CONTACTED AND DETERMINED THE FIRE ORIGINATED FROM UNDER THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE SLIDING DOOR PANEL. THE DEALER CAME OUT TO TAKE PICTURES OF THE DAMAGE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE HOWEVER; THE CONTACT WAS UNSATISFIED WITH THE QUALITY OF THE REPAIRS. THE MAJORITY OF THE VEHICLE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS WERE NO LONGER OPERABLE, SUCH AS THE POWER LOCKS AND WINDOWS, AND THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN SOMEONE INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT SMOKE WAS EMITTING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTING TO OPEN THE DOOR BUT IT WOULD NOT OPEN AND THE ALARM DID NOT FUNCTION. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND THE AS THE FIREMEN BROKE THE WINDOW TO GET INTO THE VEHICLE, THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR BECAME ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED AND THE MAIN CABLE CUT TO PREVENT ANY FUTURE FIRES. THE FIRE MARSHALL STATED THAT "THE FIRE WAS LOCATED BEHIND THE DRIVER'S SEAT IN THE B-POST WHERE ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT FAILED CAUSING THE FIRE". THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHERE THE DOOR PANEL, SEAT BELTS, AND DRIVER SEAT WERE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS ELECTRICAL BUT THE DEALER SWITCHED EVERYTHING TO MANUAL AFTER THE FIRE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS FOR THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 122,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 127,000.

THE DOOR AND DRIVER SEAT WERE ONLY ABLE TO BE OPERATED MANUALLY AND NOT AUTOMATIC. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 124,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
AFTER FILLING UP WITH GAS, THE VEHICLE GREATLY HESITATES AND SOMETIMES STALLS. THIS HAS PUT US IN DANGEROUS SITUATIONS IN TRAFFIC. A FEW MINUTES AFTER THE FILL UP, AND THROUGH THE TANK OF GAS IT RUNS FINE. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES AND IS NOT CORRECTED. *TR
WITHIN A FEW MINUTES OF FILLING THE FUEL TANK, THE ENGINE WILL STALLS. IT CAN HAPPEN AT ANY SPEED FROM 0-50 MPH. THE ENGINE WILL STALL ABOUT 80% OF THE TIME AFTER FUELLING. *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2004 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. SHE WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT. LUCKILY SHE WAS IN A PARKING LOT AT LOW SPEED AND WAS ABLE TO STOP. I DROVE THE VAN AROUND SOME AND THE PROBLEM WOULD COME AND GO. TOOK TO DEALER FOR REPAIR. $1300 TO REPLACE STEERING RACK, PUMP, ETC. I'VE READ THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. MANAGER AT THE DEALER WAS IN AGREEMENT. TOLD ME THAT THE REPLACEMENT RACK SHOULD HOLD UP BECAUSE IT WAS AN IMPROVEMENT OVER THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. CHRYSLER MUST REALIZE THIS IS A DEFECT. EVERY TIME WHEN FILL UP THE GAS TANK THE ENGINE WILL STALLED (BUT YOU CAN START UP ) WILL RUN ROUGH FOR 4 TO 5 MILES AFTER THAT ENGINE WILL BACK TO NORMAL CONDITION, I HAVE KNOWN A LOT PEOPLE HAVE A SAME PROBLEM WITH THERE TYPES OF VEHICLES, THIS DOES SOUND LIKE A DESIGN FLAW. ABOUT 75,000 MILES IT STARTED TO STALL RIGHT AFTER FILLING UP. IT IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION ESPECIALLY IF IT STALLS IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION OR ON RAILROAD TRACKS. THE MANUFACTURER TOOK A REPORT NUMBER 19162416. THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR BECAUSE THE VEHICLES WARRANTY EXPIRED. THE VEHICLE WILL BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. THE TOTAL COST FOR REPAIR WAS $500.00. THE CURRENT AND THE FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 48,154.
I GOT THE TOWN AND COUNTRY CHRYSLER 2004, AND THE AIR BAG LIGHTS STARTED TO BLINK ON AND OFF AFTER A YEAR, IN 2005 THE LIGHTS WERE PERMANENTLY ON. I HAD A CRASH IN 2009 NOT BIG ENOUGH TO MAKE THE AIR BAG WORK ANYWAY THE AIR BAGS RED LIGHT WERE ON, THEN THE DEALER GAVE THE DATA OF HOW LONG THE AIR BAG WERE NOT WORKING, IT SEEMS THAT IT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE AIR BAGS RECALL 1998/2002. I HAD SEVERAL OTHER PROBLEMS IN FIXING THIS CAR BUT I DO WANT TO KNOW IF THE 2004 MADE IS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I DON'T WANT TO WAIT FOR A BIG ACCIDENT TO REALIZE THAT THE AIR BAGS HAVE TO BE RECALL AND FIX IT. *TR

IT SEEMS THAT AFTER FILLING THE VAN WITH FUEL THE ENGINE WANTS TO HESITATE OR STALL COMPLETELY. IT HAS ALWAYS RESTARTED BUT RUNS ROUGH FOR A FEW SECONDS AFTER RESTARTING. JUNE 24,2009 THE AIRBAG ON MY 2004 CARAVAN -DECIDED TO EXPLODE. I WAS NOT IN AN ACCIDENT (ALSO IT WAS THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG). I WAS LEAVING MY HOUSE GOING MAYBE 10MPH ALL OF A SUDDEN I SMELLED SOMETHING LIKE RUBBER BURNING, RIGHT AFTER THAT THE AIR BAG EXPLODED. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY HAD THE CARE INVESTIGATED. THEY FOUND THAT THE COMPUTER FOR THE AIR BAG WAS DEFAULTED. THEY WOULD NOT FIX MY CAR BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE A WARRANTY ANYMORE. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT THEY DISCONNECTED THE DRIVER SIDE ONE. CAR CAN NO LONGER BE LOCKED BECAUSE THE POWER DOOR LOOK SYSTEM CONTROLS WERE CUT WHEN THE WIRING WAS CUT. 2) COMPLETE LOSS OF DISPLAYS AND CONTROLS IN THE DASHBOARD, WITH NO WARNING THAT IT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. EVERYTHING WORKED IN THE EVENING, AND WAS LOST THE NEXT MORNING. NO WIPERS, LIGHTS, DISPLAYS, ETC. CAR SAT IN DRIVEWAY FOR 12 HOURS, FROM THE TIME IT WORKED, TO THE TIME THAT WE DISCOVERED NOTHING WORKED. 3) PROBLEM W/ POWER STEERING. CAR MAKES A WINING NOISE AND DRINKS POWER STEERING FLUID. SEVERAL DIFFERENT WEBSITES REPORT THIS AS A COMMON PROBLEM, AND THE DEALER WANTS A $1200 REPAIR. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. *TR

SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE GARAGE TWICE FOR THE FAILURE AND THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE ROTORS ONE TIME AND THE BRAKE PADS TWICE; HOWEVER THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE WHY THE FAILURE WAS NOT PERMANENTLY CORRECTED. SHE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND FILED REPORT 19248825. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALL FOR THE TOWN AND COUNTRY. SHE HAS NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED SINCE SHE IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE RISK IN DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 31,000. UPDATED 03/01/10 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP AND BEING TOLD NOTHING WAS WRONG, THE BRAKES BEGAN TO SMOKE AND GET HOT. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A GARAGE AND THE ROTORS, PADS AND CALIPERS WERE REPLACED. UPDATED 09/14/10
POWER STEERING PUMP WAS REPLACED, THEN STARTED MAKING NOISE. TURNED OUT TO BE A LEAKING UPPER POWER STEERING HOSE. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE FOR THIS HOSE BUT OUR VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. WE PAID TO GET THE HOSE REPLACED, AND WE ARE WONDERING IF THIS IS A CONTINUING PROBLEM WITH THIS POWER STEERING HOSE THAT MAY AFFECT MORE VEHICLES THAN ORIGINALLY WERE RECALLED. I DO HAVE THE OLD POWER STEERING HOSE. *TR
