I went to turn on my headlights, and they didn't come on. All the other lights work. Parking, dash, tail, and the high beam indicator. But no headlights. Also l read that people complained about windshield washer' not working. I tried mine and they also didn't work. I see there is a recall on same problem with the 2005 - 2007 Chrysler town and country limited and they are under a recall. Mine is a 2004 T & Country limited.it My mechanic has checked all the fuses and relay's and can't find anything wrong except for the lights and wind washers not working. I called my Chrysler dealership and they acted like they never heard of the problem. But that's O K with them because they don't have to drive a car without headlights.
I'M DRIVING AND SOME HOW IT SEEMS LIKE MY TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING AND IT WILL GO BACK TO THE ACTUAL DRIVING PATTERN IN ABOUT 5 TO 6 MIN AFTER IT STALLS
THE AIRBAG IT'S BEEN TURNING OFF AND ON CONSTANTLY. I HADN'T HAVE ANY TYPE OF ACCIDENT AT ALL BUT NOW EVERY TIME I'M DRIVING ON THE STREET AND THE HIGHWAY THE AIRBAG LIGHT TURNS ON AND STAYS ON FOR MOST PART OF MY DRIVING. THIS IS THE ONLY CAR I HAVE AND I DRIVE ALL THE TIME THE LIGHT WILL TURN ON MOSTLY WHILE I'M DRIVING AND SOMETIMES WHILE IT'S PARK THE LIGHT STAYS ON
IN SEPTEMBER 2018 I NOTICE SMOKE COMING UNDERNEATH THE HOOD AND UPON OPENING THE HOOD MY FRIEND SAID THAT I HAD A FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND PUT THE FIRE OUT.AFTER CALLING MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND THEM TOWING IT TO A GARAGE I WAS INFORMED THAT A POWER STEERING HOSE HAD BUSTED THAT THEY SAID CAUSED THE FIRE.I THEN LATER ONLINE LOOKED UP MORE INFORMATION AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A NHTSA CAMPAIGN:04V386000 CONCERNING THE UPPER POWER STEERING HOSE THAT MAY SPLIT THAT CAN CAUSE A FLUID LEAK THAT IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE CAN RESULT IN AN UNDER HOOD FIRE LIKE WANT HAPPEN TO ME.I SEE THERE WAS NEVER A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE BUT SHOULD HAVE BEEN.MY VAN WAS IN MY FRIEND'S DRIVEWAY WHEN IT HAPPENED ON A SATURDAY.
THE SLIDING REAR DOOR ON DRIVER SIDE WON'T STAY LATCHED/ SHUT.
AFTER EVERY FUEL FILL THE VEHICLE RUNS ROUGH OR STALLS. MOST TIMES FOR THE FIRST MILE THEN CLEARS UP. ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO PULL OUT IN TRAFFIC AFTER FILLING THE TANK.

WHEN I BOUGHT THE VAN I DIDN'T KNOW WORK WAS REALLY NEEDED TILL 06/2018 AND I JUST WANTED TO NO IF IM QUALIFIED FOR A RECALL. THANK YOU
MY AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO. IT NOW STAYS ON MOST OF THE TIME.
THE CAR WILL SOMETIMES CUT OFF AFTER FUELING AND SNELLS IF GAS FUMES. THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND TGE CAR WOULD NOT PULL IN DRIVE LATER CAR WILL NOT ENGAGE IN THE REVERSE GEAR. CAR HAS BEEN SITTING FOR ALMOST 2 MONTHS SINCE THUS HAPPENED. THE CAR NOT PULLING WAS WHILE DRIVING HAD TO BE TOWED HOME.
FOUND BOTH BRAKE LIGHTS STAYING ON AFTER APPLYING BRAKE OR USING REMOTE DOOR LOCKS ON KEY. LIGHTS WILL GO OFF EVENTUALLY, BUT DRIVING IS NOT SAFE. PULLED FUSE AND BRAKE SWITCH- LIGHTS STILL ON.
THIS TIME I WAS HEADING DOWN WITH MY FAMILY FROM ONE OF THE HIGHEST SPOTS AT YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK. MY SPEED WAS ABOUT 45 MPH AND TWO LANE ROAD WITH LOT OF TURNS. NO OTHER TRAFFIC IN FRONT OR BEHIND ME. I TURNED HIGH BEAMS ON AND THERE WE GO, HEADLIGHTS GONE. I PULLED QUICKLY FOG LIGHTS ON TO HAVE SOME LIGHTS. NO OTHER OPTIONS THAN CONTINUE TO THE NEXT PLACE WHERE I COULD PULL CAR TO SIDE OF THE ROAD. WHEN STOPPED I CHECKED IF KNOCKING ECM WORKS BUT IT DIDN'T, NORMALLY IT DOES. I RELEASED FOUR SCREWS AND PULLED ECM OUT. INSTALLED MY SPARE ECM, NO LIGHTS. I INSTALLED THE OLD ECM MODULE BACK AND WIGGLED IT AND LIGHTS CAME ON. I DIDN'T CHECK ON THE SPOT THAT WOULD I HAVE HIGH BEAMS. 1 HOUR LATER WHEN WE GOT TO COTTAGE WE RENTED I WANTED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPEN THIS TIME WHEN TURNING HIGH BEAMS ON. LIGHTS GONE AGAIN. THIS TIME KNOCKING ECM MODULE HELPED. I TESTED HIGH BEAM AND LOW BEAMS MULTIPLE TIMES AND NO ISSUES. LOOSING HEAD LIGHT HAVE HAPPEN WITH THIS VEHICLE BEFORE HOWEVER THE ISSUE IS THAT IT IS INTERMITTENT. I HAVEN'T FOUND ANY LOGIC HOW TO REPEAT IT WHAT MAKES IT SCARY / UNCOMFORTABLE.
ABS WARNING LIGHT AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATE.THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES MOST ALL OF THE TIME BUT WILL GO OUT ON OCCASION THEN ILLUMINATE AGAIN AND AGAIN OR STAY ON .THE BRAKES SEEM TO OPERATE NORMALLY AND PASS ALL MECHANICAL INSPECTIONS.THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT WILL GO OUT UPON SHARP ELEVATION CHANGES COMBINED WITH SHARP TURNING MANUVERS.
CAR STALLS WHEN FULL GAS TANK. DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERY TIME, BUT IT'S ALWAYS WHEN FULL. MAKES VERY UNSAFE CONDITION. I'VE LEARNED NOT TO MAKE LEFT TURNS IN FIRST 5 MINUTES AFTER FILLING, OR BEST NOT TO FILL. IT'S A COMMON PROBLEM WHEN LOOKING ONLINE, CHRYSLER REPLACES TANK FOR VALVE ON TANK FOR SOME PEOPLE. THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING FOR ME, BUT OFFER A $1500 FIX. IT TRULY IS A WIDESPREAD SAFETY HAZZARD.
EVERY TIME I REFUEL CAR WILL HESITE AND STALL. IT'S SPECIALLY DANGEROUS WHEN U GET FUEL NEXT TO THE FREEWAY BECAUSE IT WILL STALL AS YOU TRYING TO GET TO FREEWAY SPEED AND SOMEBODY CAN HIT YOU FROM BEHIND.

DRIVING 65 MPH AT HIGHWAY. TURNED HIGH BEAM LIGHTS ON AND HEADLIGHTS STOP WORKING. TURNED FOG LIGHTS ON TO SEE SIDE OF THE ROAD. REDUCED SPEED TO STOP VEHICLE. OPENED HOOD AND CHECKED ECM / FCM BY WIGGLING IT. STARTED VEHICLE AND HEADLIGHTS CAME BACK.
TAKATA RECALL THE FULE RAIL WIRING HARNESS MELTED DOWN.THE WIRING HARNES IS INSTALLED RIGHT ABOVE THE EXHAUST FROM THE FACTORY. THE HEAT FROM THE EXHAUST OVER TIME MELTED A 4 INCH SECTION OF THE INSULATION OFF OF THE WIRING HARNESS CAUSING THEM TO SORT OUT. THE VAN HAD 130000 MILES WHEN THIS HAPPENED. IT LEFT ME AND MY FAMILY STRANDED ON THE FREEWAY, IT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THIS WAS VERY UNSAFE TO HAVE THE ENGINE STALL OUT ON THE FREEWAY. CLEARLY THERE SHOULD BE MORE THAN 2 INCHES BETWEEN THE WIRING HARNESS AND THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. I HAD THE VAN TOWED TO MY MECHANIC $150. THEN THEY REPLACED THE OLD HARNESS $400 PARTS $435 LABOR TOTAL $985 DOLLARS!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE INDEPENDENTLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE WAS PERSISTENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MORITZ CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM (9101 CAMP BOWIE BLVD, FORT WORTH, TX 76116) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER MODULE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE COST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 263,980.
I FOUND LAST NIGHT WHEN I WAS ABOUT TO LEAVE FROM HOME FOR SOME HOME DEPOT SHOPPING THAT MY HEADLIGHTS DIDN'T TURN ON. THIS IS LOW AND HIGH BEAMS. FOG LIGHTS, CORNER LIGHTS AND INDICATORS WORK JUST NORMALLY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN, THE CONTACT EXERTED FORCE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE POWER STEERING STARTED TO MAKE A WHINING NOISE. ONCE THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO CHECK UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED THAT THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING FLUID LEFT IN THE POWER STEERING CANISTER. THE CONTACT HAD TO CONSTANTLY REPLACE THE POWER STEERING FLUID EVERY COUPLE OF DAYS. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED IDENTICAL FAILURES AS INDICATED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 04V386000 (POWER STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 168,000.
AFTER FILLING UP WITH FUEL, THE CAR WAS STARTED, AND DRIVEN OUT OF THE GAS STATION, BUT LESS THAN 50 FEET OUT ONTO THE ROAD, THE CAR LOST POWER THEN REGAINED POWER THEN LOST IT CYCLING RAPIDLY THROUGH THIS WHERE RPM WOULD COME UP TO IDLE SPEED THAN DROP TO NEAR ZERO UP AND DOWN. NO ABILITY TO MOVE OUT OF TRAFFIC, ETC., EVENTUALLY COMPLETELY STALLED. THE CAR STARTED HARD, BUT RESTARTED AND I COULD DRIVE OUT OF HARMS WAY. THE CAR DROVE FOR ABOUT 2 BLOCKS AND ACTED UP AGAIN FOR A FEW MOMENTS AND THEN PERFORMED FINE. THIS PROBLEM ALSO OCCURRED FOR ANOTHER DRIVER IN THE FAMILY ABOUT 2 WEEKS (4 FUEL FILLS) EARLIER.

THE CONTACT COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAITED APPROXIMATELY THREE MINUTES. AFTERWARDS, THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND OPERATED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED RIGHT AFTER FILLING THE VEHICLE WITH FUEL APPROXIMATELY NINE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED ON THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION FOR A FUELING ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
AFTER REFUELING THE VAN THE ENGINE STARTS EASILY, I THEN PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND THEN THE ENGINE STALLS OUT IN TRAFFIC. THIS ONLY HAPPENS AFTER FILLING THE TANK FULL. USUALLY WILL RESTART AFTER THE STARTER CRANKS A BIT. THEN THE VAN RUNS FINE UNTIL I REFILL THE GAS TANK AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED THREE YEARS AGO. YOUR FORM ONLY HAS ROOM FOR ONE OCCASION TO REPORT.
AFTER FILLING FUEL TANK UP, I DROVE OUT OF STATION AND VAN STALLED AND QUIT RUNNING. I STARTED IT UP AGAIN, DROVE ABOUT 100 FEET AND IT STALLED AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES AFTER FILLING UP WITH GAS.VERY DANGEROUS PULLING INTO TRAFFIC OUT OF GAS STATION!

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THE LAST FAILURE RESULTED IN THE VEHICLE BEING UNABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 144,963.
ENGINE STALLED AFTER REFUELING. THIS CAUSED MY WIFE TO PANIC WITH 4 KIDS IN THE VAN, AND IT WAS DIFFICULT TO RESTART ON A BUSY ROAD DURING RUSH HOUR. *TR

FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS (SINCE 2009), MY 2004 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY VAN WANTS TO DIE SOON AFTER EVERY TIME THAT IS FILLED WITH GAS (NO MATTER THE OCTANE TYPE). THE PROBLEM MOST TYPICALLY RESOLVES ITSELF AFTER 5 MINUTES OR SO, BUT IN THE INTERIM THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS CLOSE CALLS AS THE VAN LOSES FUNCTION WITH THE POWER TRYING TO DIE. I HAVE ENDED UP LEARNING TO DRIVE WITH THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND COAST WHILE REVVING THE VAN. OR BETTER YET AT A STOP LIGHT RACE THE ENGINE WITH THE CAR IN NEUTRAL (I SEE NOTHING BAD THAT CAN HAPPEN WITH THIS SOLUTION!!). FOR THE MOST PART THE CAR IS USED ONLY WHEN NEEDED ANYMORE AS WE ARE TERRIFIED OF FILLING THE CAR UP. WE ARE VERY LUCKY TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE IT PART TIME BUT SOME PEOPLE AREN'T SO FORTUNATE AND THIS IS A CAR THAT DRIVES MANY FAMILIES. IT IS DEPLORABLE TO SEE SO MANY PEOPLE HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND YET NO ONE CHOOSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE DESIGN FLAW OF THE VAPOR/LIQUID VALVE. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE OF THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED! *TR
I FILLED MY GAS TANK FULL, AND DROVE MY CAR TO A PARKING LOT, LATER ON I WENT TO LEAVE THE PARKING SLOT AND SMELLED GASOLINE, AND FOUND LEAKAGE UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. I TOOK IT TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INDICATED THE METAL RING THAT APPLIES MECHANICAL PRESSURE TO THE FUEL PUMP / SENDING UNIT IS SEVERELY CORRODED CAUSING THE TANGS THAT HOLD DOWN THE ASSEMBLY TIGHTLY IN THE TANK HOLE, TO FAIL, CAUSING THE PRESSURE ON THE SEAL TO BE INADEQUATE AND ALLOW THE SEAL TO FUNCTION. THIS PROBLEM IS NOT CAUSING THE CHECK ENGINE LAMP TO BE ILLUMINATED, THUS IS NOT WARNING ME OF THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION. I PURCHASED ANOTHER 2004 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY TANK, AND WHILE IT IS POSSIBLY SERVICEABLE, THE RING ON IT IS ALSO CORRODED, AND IS LIKELY TO FAIL AGAIN IF PUT INTO SERVICE. I LIVE IN THE NORTHERN RUST BELT STATES. DRIVING IN NORTHEAST OHIO, WESTERN PA WHERE CORROSION IS ENHANCED BY SALT APPLIED TO PREVENT SNOW AND ICE ACCIDENTS. I HAVE NOT YET TAKEN THE FAILED TANK OFF THE VEHICLE. I AM WONDERING IF CHRYSLER SHOULD REPAIR THIS FOR FREE AND RECALL OTHERS THAT ARE LIKELY HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS IN RUST PRONE AREAS. WAS TOLD THAT THIS EXACT TANK WAS ONLY USED IN 2004. I AM CURRENTLY OPERATING BY FILLING THE TANK WITH LESS THAN 10 GALLONS AT A TIME FROM AN EMPTY TANK WHO'S IS AN INCONVENIENT TO DO THINGS AND PROBABLY STILL NOT SAFE IN CASE OF A ROLL OVER ACCIDENT, SO I HOPE TO GET A RESPONSE FROM YOU FAIRLY SOON, THANK YOU FOR YOU ATTENTION IN THIS MATTER! *TR
IMMEDIATELY AFTER REFUELING ENGINE RUNS ROUGH LIKE A SEVERE MISFIRE CONDITION FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. IF A STOP IS MADE DURING THIS MISFIRE TIME FRAME A STALL OFTEN OCCURS. FLOORING THE ACCELERATOR OFTEN HELPS "POWER THROUGH" OR CLEAR THE CONDITION, BUT NOT IN EVERY OCCURRENCE. THIS OCCURS EVERY TIME FUEL IS ADDED REGARDLESS IF THE TANK IS FILLED COMPLETELY (UNTIL PUMP STOPS AUTOMATICALLY) OR PARTIALLY (PUMP CUT OFF BY VEHICLE OWNER). STATUS OF TANK AT TIME OF FILL UP ALSO DOES NOT HAVE AN EFFECT ON THE OCCURRENCE OF THIS PROBLEM, IT DOES NOT MATTER IF THE TANK IS HALF, ONE-FOURTH, OR THREE-FOURTHS FULL, PROBLEM ALWAYS PERSISTS AFTER FUELING. THIS CONDITION IS NOT DEPENDENT ON WEATHER CONDITIONS, CURRENT MAINTENANCE STATUS, OR BY WHICH GAS STATION OR PUMP IS USED AT THE STATION. NO MIL ILLUMINATION (EXCEPT WITH BULB CHECK AFTER STALL) AND NO CODES STORED TO RECORD INCIDENT IN PCM. NO HISTORY IN PCM TO INDICATE AN ISSUE. SUSPECT THIS HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH EVAP OR FUEL VAPOR SYSTEM NOT OPERATING PROPERLY AFTER FILLING GAS TANK. *TR
AFTER FUELING, LEFT THE STATION AND DROVE APPROXIMATELY A HALF MILE WHEN THE VAN'S ENGINE STALLED AND THE VAN LOST POWER. IT WAS QUITE DANGEROUS SINCE I HAD NO CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE UNTIL IT COASTED TO A STOP. AN INTERNET SEARCH REVEALED MANY PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM CAUSED BY A FAULTY VALVE IN THE FUEL TANK. *JS
WE HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE CAR. THE PROBLEM STARTED WITH NOT BEING ABLE O FILL THE TANK IT THE FUEL DISPENSER WOULD SHUT OFF AS THE GAS WOULD BACKUP. THEN THAT WENT AWAY. THE NEW ISSUE STARTED. AFTER A FULL FILL UP OF THE TANK , AND DRIVING ABOUT A MILE OR SO, THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF. ON 5/2/2014 IT HAPPENED AGAIN AFTER FULL FILLUP. I FILLED UP THE TANK. DROVE ABOUT A MILE AND WAS AT A TURN AND THE CAR SHUT OFF. I LOST CONTROL OF MY STEERING AS IT LOCKED UP DUE TO ENGINE BEING OFF. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR JUST BEFORE IT HIT THE GUARD RAIL AT THE TURN. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS AND THIS WAS THE CLOSEST COMING TO AN ACCIDENT. IT HAS SHUT OFF ON THE FREEWAY AS WELL WHEN WE TOOK LONG TRIPS. CREATED A DANGEROUS SITUATION SINCE WE LOOSE STEERING WHEEL CONTROL. THE WAY TO GET BACK IS TO PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL (WHILE IT IS MOVING) AND TURN THE CAR ON AND THEN SHIFT IT TO DRIVE. *TR
OUR 2004 HAS BEEN STALLING SINCE BEFORE FEBRUARY, 2014, BEFORE 91077 MILES. 2/14 WAS WHEN I STARTED KEEPING RECORDS OF PROBLEM. WHETHER I WAITED OR NOT, WITH ENGINE RUNNING BEFORE LEAVING THE STATION, THE VAN WOULD STALL AFTER IDLING WHILE WAITING FOR TRAFFIC TO CLEAR, AND I PULLED OUT INTO TRAFFIC ON A STATE HIGHWAY. IT RESTARTS RIGHT AWAY. I FUEL UP CLOSE TO INTERSTATE AND AT TIMES IT EITHER STALLS OR HESITATES ON ENTRANCE RAMP. IN AN ARTICLE FROM CBS MAY 2014 THE NHTSA QUESTIONED CHRYSLER ABOUT 150,000 VANS, AND 160,000 DODGE CHARGER AND MAGNUMS WITH THIS PROBLEM. IN A LETTER TO NHTSA ON 8-9-2013 CHRYSLER STATED: "DATA SHOWS THAT STALL AFTER REFUEL INCIDENTS PRESENT A LOW RISK OF ACCIDENT OR INJURY. THE MAJORITY OF STALL AFTER REFUEL INCIDENTS OCCUR AT LOW SPEEDS OR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED". THAT IS NOT TRUE. WHEN I PULL INTO TRAFFIC AND VAN STALLS OR HESITATES, I HAVE NOT APPLIED MY BRAKE, THE VAN STOPS WITH NO WARNING TO VEHICLE BEHIND. I'VE SEEN WHAT DAMAGE CRASHES EVEN AT 35 MPH CAN DO. WHEN IT HAPPENS ON ENTRANCE RAMP TO INTERSTATE AND THE VAN STALLS AS I AM ACCELERATING WITH VEHICLES FOLLOWING, THERE IS NO WARNING TO VEHICLES BEHIND ME WHEN THEY ARE EXPECTING AN INCREASE IN SPEED AND I COME TO A ROLL AND AM FIGHTING THE STEERING WHEEL WITH NO POWER STEERING TO PULL TO SIDE TO GET OUT OF TRAFFIC'S WAY TILL I CAN SHIFT TO NEUTRAL AND RESTART ENGINE. WE HAVE 77 PRINTED ARTICLES IN HAND, OUT OF COUNTLESS NUMBERS FROM THE INTERNET, ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, WITH NO RESOLVE. MINIVAN STALLED AFTER FUELING UP. TOOK THE VAN IMMEDIATELY TO A CHRYSLER DEALER WHO COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM. THEN AFTER A COUPLE WEEKS, THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED AFTER FUELING AND ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN. THEN THE VAN ALMOST STALLED THE NEXT TIME FILLING THE TANK UP AND ENTERING A HIGHWAY (GAS PURCHASED IN A DIFFERENT STATE AT A DIFFERENT GAS STATION). THEN AGAIN AFTER FILLING UP WITH A PREMIUM NAME BRAND SUPERIOR FUEL AND A GAS ADDITIVE. VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND NOT SURE WE CAN TRUST DEALER AFTER MISDIAGNOSIS THE FIRST TIME. *TR
AFTER FUELING, AS I PULLED OUT ONTO THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR STALLED. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND RESTART THE ENGINE. IT HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES LAST YEAR, ALWAYS AFTER FUELING, AND IS BECOMING MORE FREQUENT SINCE DECEMBER OF 2014. DEPENDING ON WHERE IT OCCURS, IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO STALL WHEN ENTERING A STEADY FLOW OF TRAFFIC. I'VE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM, AND IT IS A FACT THAT IT IS COMMON IN CHRYSLER VEHICLES, PARTICULARLY THOSE WITH MILEAGE OVER 100,000 THOUSAND MILES.......TO MY KNOWLEDGE THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM, AND INFORMATION THAT I'VE RESEARCHED SAYS THAT CHRYSLER DOESN'T CONSIDER IT A PROBLEM. THIS VEHICLE STALLS AFTER REFUELING. I GOOGLE THE PROBLEM AND I FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM PEOPLE WITH THIS PROBLEM ALL HAVING CHRYSLER/DODGE VEHICLES. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AS THE VEHICLES TEND TO RANDOMLY STALL AFTER REFUELING. SEVERAL MECHANICS POSTED THE CAUSE AS BEING A DEFECTIVE VALUE ON THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THIS IS ONE OF THOSE POSTS. SHOPS ARE REPORTING A PROBLEM WITH THE GAS TANK ON DODGE CARAVAN, GRAND CARAVAN, PLYMOUTH VOYAGER, AND TOWN AND COUNTRY VANS. SHORTLY AFTER REFUELING, DRIVERS EXPERIENCE ENGINE STALLING. THE STALLING MAY REPEAT SEVERAL TIMES. THE PROBLEM IS THE VAPOR/LIQUID SEPARATOR VALVE LOCATED AT THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. THE VALVE IS DESIGNED TO PREVENT LIQUID FUEL FROM ENTERING THE CHARCOAL CANISTER/EMISSIONS SYSTEM. WHEN THE VALVE FAILS, LIQUID GAS CAN ENTER THE LINE AND FILL THE CHARCOAL CANISTER. AFTER REFUELING THE PCM ON THE VEHICLE DETECTS A CHANGE IN FUEL LEVEL. THEN, WHEN THE ENGINE MEETS CERTAIN TEMPERATURE AND DRIVING CRITERIA, THE PCM ISSUES A PURGE COMMAND TO THE CHARCOAL CANISTER TO REMOVE THE STORED GAS VAPORS. IT?S AT THAT POINT THAT ALL THE LIQUID GAS IN THE LINE GETS SUCKED INTO THE CHARCOAL CANISTER. THE PCM EXPECTS TO SEE GAS VAPORS ENTERING THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND IT IS PREPARED TO ADJUST AIR/FUEL MIXTURES TO COMPENSATE. HOWEVER, IT IS NOT PREPARED TO SEE LIQUID GAS COMING INTO THE INTAKE. THAT?S WHAT CAUSES THE ENGINE TO STALL. UNFORTUNATELY, THE ONLY FIX IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE GAS TANK. CHRYSLER DOES NOT SELL THE VAPOR/LIQUID VALVE AS A SEPARATE UNIT. ONCE THE TANK IS REPLACED AND THE CHARCOAL CANISTER PURGED, THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY.
RIGHT AFTER VEHICLE PASSED THE 100,000 MILE MARK AROUND AUGUST OF 2013 THE VAN WOULD START TO CHUG AND STALL AS SOON AS YOU FILLED UP THE GAS TANK. FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS ATTEMPTING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC AND WAS ALMOST HIT SINCE LOST STEERING AND COULD NOT CONTROL THE VEHICLE. HAD WIFE AND 3 KIDS IN THE VAN. ISSUE STILL HAPPENING ON EVERY FILL UP. USUALLY ONCE YOU RESTART THE VEHICLE IT DRIVES NORMAL. RESEARCHED AND FOUND THAT THIS STALLING ISSUE IS VERY COMMON WITH THE 2004 TOWN & COUNTRY. APPARENTLY THE ISSUE STEMS FROM THE FILTER ON TOP OF THE GAS TANK WHICH CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF, BUT NO RECALL. HAVE TRIED TO NOT FILL COMPLETELY UP WHICH SOMETIMES HELPS, BUT STALLING CAN STILL HAPPEN. MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS OF THIS ISSUE WITH POTENTIAL ACCIDENTS SO A LITTLE SURPRISED THIS HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED BY CHRYSLER. GUESS IT'S A NUMBERS GAME AND A CERTAIN NUMBER OF PEOPLE HAVE TO GET KILLED AND LAWSUITS PILE UP BEFORE IT BECOMES ECONOMICAL TO GET REVIEWED AND ADDRESSED.
FOR THE PAST YEAR, AFTER FILLING UP THE GAS TANK, OUR VAN WOULD START TO SHUDDER AND SOMETIMES STALL IMMEDIATELY AFTER PULLING OUT OF THE STATION. IT WOULD RESTART AFTER A MINUTE, BUT STALL AGAIN, ESPECIALLY AFTER A LEFT TURN. IT HAPPENED AGAIN TWO DAYS AGO WHEN MY WIFE FILLED UP, AND SHE AND MY YOUNG SON WERE COMING HOME, AND TURNED LEFT AT AN INTERSECTION WITH A TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE ENGINE STARTED DYING AND THE VAN SHUDDERED VIOLENTLY AND JUST QUIT. FORTUNATELY, SHE WAS ABLE TO COAST THROUGH THE LIGHT AND PULL INTO A LOT ON THE RIGHT. THE DASH LIGHTS WERE ALL LIT, BUT THE ENGINE WAS NOT RUNNING. IT DID RESTART AGAIN, AND SHE BROUGHT IT HOME, THOUGH THE VAN RODE VERY ROUGH, LIKE THE ROAD WAS BUMPY, WHEN IT WASN'T. I READ 30-40 STORIES FROM PEOPLE WHO HAD THE EXACT SAME ISSUE, ON VARIOUS MODEL YEARS. MANY OF THOSE STORIES ARE ON THIS VERY PAGE, FOR OWNERS' COMPLAINTS. BUT AS OF NOW, CHRYSLER IS OFFERING NO REPAIR FOR AN OBVIOUS DESIGN OR MANUFACTURING FAULT.
