2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM PROBLEMS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE SENSOR AND VALVE CAP. *JB
WHILE INFLATING TIRES FOR A CUSTOMER THE TPMS VALVE STEM SENSOR BROKE AND DEFLATED THE TIRE. *TR
THE TPMS WARNING LIGHT GOES OFF EVERY WEEK TELLING ME ONE OF MY TIRES IS LOW. IT IS NOT JUST ONE TIRE. 3 OF THEM SEEM TO BE LOSING AIR FROM THE VALVE STEM AND I HAVE TO REFILL THEM EVERY WEEK. IT SEEMS THE STEM IS MADE OF ALUMINUM AND CORRODES EASILY. THEY BECOME BRITTLE AND CAN BREAK EVEN FROM WASHING THE CAR OR JUST CHECKING THE AIR PRESSURE ACCORDING TO T&C OWNERS. *TR
PROBLEM: I BOUGHT A NEW DODGE CARAVAN IN 2005, HAD A FLAT TIRE, AND THERE WAS NOT A SPARE TIRE UNDERNEATH THE VAN. I HAD NEVER HAD A FLAT TIRE ON THIS VAN, SO WHY WAS THERE NOT A SPARE TIRE OR SPARE TIRE COVER UNDERNEATH MY CAR?) I HAD TO LITERALLY GET DOWN ON MY HANDS AND KNEES USING A CELLPHONE LIGHT TO SEE UNDERNEATH THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE CAR TO DETERMINE WHY THE SPARE WOULD NOT LEASE. WE HAD NEVER HAD A FLAT IN THIS VAN BEFORE AND WE BOUGHT IT NEW AT HAYES CHRYSLER IN OAKWOOD, GEORGIA IN 2005. THE REASON I COULD NO GET THE SPARE TIRE TO RELEASE WAS BECAUSE I FINALLY DISCOVERED, THERE WAS NO SPARE TIRE NOR TIRE COVER IN THE SPARE TIRE STORAGE COMPARTMENT UNDERNEATH MY VAN. MY SON AND I WERE STRANDED AT APPROXIMATELY 11:00 PM AT NIGHT ON THE SIDE OF I78 NEAR FULTON, MS. NOT ONLY DID I, A WIFE AND MOM, HAVE TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO, BUT HAD TO KEEP MY SON CALM. HE WAS UNSURE ABOUT SAFETY. LATER, WHEN I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP, THEY OFFERED NO HELP. AFTER I FIRST DESCRIBED THE EVENTS THAT HAD TAKEN PLACE WITH MY HAVING A FLAT AND NO SPARE TIRE, THE HAYES CHRYSLER EMPLOYEE SAID, "THAT TIRE WAS STOLEN!" I REPLIED, "EXACTLY AND WE GET OUR CAR SERVICED AT YOUR DEALERSHIP SO CHECK YOUR RECORDS AND SEE WHO WORKED ON MY VAN." NEEDLESS TO SAY, AFTER CHECKING WITH A MANAGER THE DEALERSHIP SIMPLY SAID THAT THEY HAD PERFORMED AN INSPECTION ON THE CAR WHEN THE CAR WAS BOUGHT (INFERRING THAT A SPARE WAS ON THE CAR). TO REPLACE THE SPARE TIRE AND TIRE COVER THE DEALERSHIP WAS GOING TO CHARGE ME APPROXIMATELY $180.00. I CONTACTED A AUTO SALVAGE STORE AND THEY VERIFIED THAT THEY HAD MANY COMPLAINTS (NOT NECESSARILY BECAUSE OF THIS DEALERSHIP OR FOR THE SAME REASONS) OF PEOPLE NEEDING A SPARE TIRE AND OFFERED TO SELL ME THE DOUGHNUT SIZED SPARE TIRE AND ITS COVER FOR $50.00. I NEVER THOUGHT TO CHECK UNDERNEATH MY NEW CAR TO SEE IF THERE WAS A SPARE TIRE. LESSON LEARNED. *TR
LOW AIR PRESSURE IN TIRE(S) LIGHT CAME ON IN MY 2005 WALTER P CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY WHEN MY WIFE AND I LEFT OUR HOUSE. TURNED AROUND AND CAME HOME TO CHECK AIR IN TIRES. FRONT RIGHT TIRE WAS LOW AND WHEN I TOOK THE CAP OFF, THE VALVE STEM BROKE OFF IN MY HAND. THE TIRE COMPLETELY LOST ALL AIR IN A MATTER OF SEVERAL SECONDS. IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED TO MY WIFE AND GRANDKIDS LATER THAT EVENING AND WITH THE TEMPERATURE DROPPING TO NEAR ZERO, IT COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY SCARY SITUATION. THEN I FIND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT IS WELL DOCUMENTED, YET NO RECALLS THAT I CAN FIND AS OF YET. UNBELIEVABLE! THIS IS VERY, VERY DANGEROUS AND I WILL NOT PUT THESE VALVES WITH SENSORS BACK ON MY VEHICLE. IF ANYONE KNOWS OF A RECALL, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. *TR
MICHELIN HYDRO EDGE DOT B9ODHAEX RADIAL XSE 215/65 R16 98T SOLD BY SEARS, INSTALLED BY SEARS, LIKE NEW TIRE EXPLODED NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THEY SAY IT WAS EITHER OF TWO REASONS A NAIL OR TIRE SENSOR WAS LOOSE. THERE WAS NO NAIL IN TIRE. I CALLED THEM ON IT AND TOOK PICTURES SO THEY ARE NOW BLAMING THE SENSOR. THEY CAN'T KEEP THEIR STORY STRAIGHT. THEY INSTALLED THE TIRES AND THEY REFUSE TO ACCEPT REPLACEMENT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE TIRE AND EXPECT ME TO PAY 130.00 TO REPLACE IT. THEY SAY I MUST HAVE REFUSED 60.00 CHARGE FOR SENSOR ADJUSTMENT EVEN THOUGH WHEN I TOOK MY CAR TO THEM I HAD THE VEHICLE ALIGNED AND BOUGHT TOP OF THE LINE TIRES. WHY WOULD I REFUSE A 60.00 CHARGE TO ADJUST SENSORS IF BY NOT DOING SO COULD MAKE THE TIRES EXPLODE? I HAVE DONE NOTHING WRONG. THESE TIRES WERE EXTREMELY WELL MAINTAINED BECAUSE I AM A BOUNTY HUNTER AND TRAVEL ACROSS THE COUNTRY CAPTURING FUGITIVES. I CHECK THE AIR ON MY TIRES IN DIFFERENT WEATHER CONDITIONS AND IN DIFFERENT ALTITUDES. MY TIRES ARE MY LEGS, I EXPLAINED THIS TO THEM. THE LAST THING I NEED IS TO BE STRANDED IN THE AZ DESERT WITH A FLAT. 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY. CONSUMER WRITES TO EXPRESS DISCONTENT WITH TOYO TOURING TIRES *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED IN JAN 2011, HE PURCHASED TWO TOYO TIRES FROM HIS LOCAL TIRE DEALER. HOWEVER, ONE OF THE TIRES SUFFERED A SEVERE BLOW OUT. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE REPLACEMENT TIRE SUFFERED TREAD SEPARATION AND BLEW OUT. THE CONSUMER REPLACED THE TIRE WITH ANOTHER BRAND. WHILE DRIVING FOR THE THIRD TIME, THE LAST TOYO TIRE BLEW OUT, WHICH CAUSED THE CONSUMER TO RUN OFF THE ROAD AND INTO A DITCH. THE CONSUMER SUFFERED A LOWER BACK INJURY. THE CONSUMER STATED THE TWO TIRES HE ORIGINALLY PURCHASED AND THE REPLACEMENT TIRE HAD TREAD SEPARATION AND BLEW OUT. *JB
PURCHASED DOUGLAS XTRA TRACK II TIRES AT WAL-MART IN AUGUST 2011. ONE WEEK TO THE DAY LATER WITH LESS THAN 100 MILES ON THE TIRES ONE BLEW OUT. COMPLETE FAILURE RIPPED THE MIDDLE TREAD BLEW APART. MY DAUGHTER WITH A LEARNERS PERMIT WAS DRIVING AND THANKFULLY AT A SLOW SPEED OF ABOUT 40 MPH. RETURNED THE CAR TO WAL-MART. THEY DID NOT WARRANTY THE TIRE BUT DID REPLACE IT UNDER THE ROAD HAZARD WARRANTY I HAD PURCHASED. TWO OF THE REMAINING TIRES HAD SIGNIFICANT CREASES ON THE SIDE WALLS. THE MGR. SAID THAT IS NORMAL WHERE THE TIRE IS PUT TOGETHER. ALL 3 TIRES WERE LOW (1 WEEK AFTER INSTALL NO OFF ROAD). THEY AIRED THEM UP AND REPLACED THE BLEW TIRE AND I HAD TO PAY FOR THE ROAD HAZARD WARRANTY ON THE NEW TIRE. THE TIRES BOUNCE, THEY LOSE AIR CONSTANTLY, I AIR THEM UP WEEKLY. I HAVE ASKED REPEATEDLY ABOUT THE WEDGES IN THE SIDE WALLS WHICH ARE GETTING WORSE. I AM TOLD IT IS NORMAL AND I MAY WANT TO PURCHASE NEW TIRES FOR A SMOOTHER RIDE (BOUNCE). THEY RE-BALANCE AS OFTEN AS MY ROAD WARRANTY ALLOWS AND THAT IMPROVES BOUNCING USUALLY FOR ABOUT 10 DAYS. I HAVE TALKED TO SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THIS TIRE PURCHASED AT WAL-MART. ON YOUR SITE I SEE AT LEAST 17 COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS TIRE BUT NO INVESTIGATIONS. I GUESS THAT SPEAKS TO WHO WAL-MART HAS IN THEIR POCKET. THESE TIRES ARE AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN AND I AM SURE THEY HAVE CAUSED SOME. ACCORDING TO WAL-MART THE SEPARATION OF TREADS ARE A ROAD HAZARD SO I AM SURE ACCIDENTS ARE CHALKED UP TO BAD ROADS, NOT BAD TIRES. I MEAN WAL-MART SAYS IT SO NO INVESTIGATIONS ARE COMPLETED. I BOUGHT A USED 2005 CHRYSLER MINIVAN TOWN & COUNTRY AND YESTERDAY I WAS NEARLY KILLED BY A TIRE EXPLOSION THAT NEARLY CAUSED A REAR END COLLISION ON THE LA FREEWAY. IT WAS A FIRESTONE FR690. NO TREAD WEAR AT ALL. WHEN I CALLED FIRESTONE TO SEE IF THEY HAD BEEN RECALLED I WAS TOLD NO. WHEN I GOT BACK TO THE HOUSE I GOOGLED AND FOUND THAT INDEED THEY HAVE BEEN BUT ONLY THE FR690 215-65-15'S NOT THE 16'S THAT I HAVE ON MY VAN. THE DESCRIPTION OF WHAT HAPPENS TO THE 15'S AND THE SOUND IT MAKES WHEN COMING APART IS IDENTICAL TO WHAT HAPPENED TO ME. I NEED TO REPORT THIS AS I HAVE TO REPLACE ALL FOUR TIRES NOW ON THIS VAN AT A COST OF ALMOST 600.00 FOR NEW TIRES WHEN THE TIRES ON THERE ARE NEW. *TR
TPMS. TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS ARE REQUIRED ON ALL NEW VEHICLES NOW TO "HELP AID IN SAFETY?" PROBLEM IS LIKE ON MY 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY, THE SENSORS ARE MADE WITH A WATCH BATTERY AS THE SENSOR POWER SOURCE. THIS IS FINE IF THE CONSUMER CAN REPLACE THESE WATCH BATTERIES OR HAVE THE WATCH BATTERIES REPLACED WHEN THEY ARE DEAD, BUT, "BUT" CHRYSLER HAS MADE THE SENSORS IN SUCH A WAY THAT THE SENSOR IS COMPLETELY DESTROYED BY TRYING TO CHANGE THE BATTERIES. ONE MUST REPLACE THE ENTIRE SENSOR WHEN THE WATCH BATTERIES ARE DEAD. THE COST FOR REPLACING (4) SENSORS EVERY (3) TO(4) YEARS IS EXTREMELY OVERPRICED. SO TO CONCLUDE MY COMPLAINT, THE INTENT OF SAFETY IS NOT WHAT IS GOING ON HERE WITH THE CAR MANUFACTURERS, BUT A NEW OPPORTUNITY FOR PROFIT. SEE, WHAT THIS HAS NOW CAUSED IS THAT SINCE THE COST IS SO HIGH TO REPLACE THE SENSORS WHEN THE CONSUMER SHOULD BE ABLE TO CHANGE A SMALL BATTERY FOR POCKET CHANGE, THE CONSUMER WILL JUST LET THE WARNING LIGHT SHINE AND NOT REPLACE THE EXPENSIVE SENSORS WHEN A WATCH BATTERY IS DEAD. MY FAMILY AND I EXPERIENCE A NEAR FATAL ACCIDENT WHEN A DOUGLAS/GOODYEAR XTRA TRAC TIRE LITERALLY EXPLODED OFF OF THE RIM OF OUR CAR. THE RESULT WAS THERE WAS NOTHING LEFT OF THE TIRE EXCEPT FOR A VERY SMALL PIECE OF RUBBER ON EITHER SIDE OF THE RIM. (IHAVE PICTURES OF THE BLOWN TIRE). I RETURNED TO WALMART WHERE I PURCHASED THIS TIRE. AT FIRST THE STORE LOOKED AT WHAT WAS LEFT OF THE TIRE AND SAID THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING. THEN WHEN I INFORMED THEM THAT I PURCHASED THIS TIRE FROM THEM AT THAT STORE, A SALESPERSON CHUCKLED AND REMARKED WAS IT AN XTRA TRAC TIRE I SAID YES. ANOTHER MECHANIC LOOKED AT IT AND SAID THEY WOULD SELL ME ANOTHER XTRA TRAC TIRE. I DECLINED THE OFFER AND TOOK BY BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. THIS WAS THE THIRD TIRE (DOUGLAS/GOODYEAR TIRE) THAT BLEW. IN EACH PREVIOUS INSTANCE THE TIRE SHREDDED. IN THIS INSTANCE THE TIRE EXPLODED. IN EACH INSTANCE THE TIRE HAD NOT REACHED THE WARRANTED MILEAGE THAT THE TIRE WAS SUPPOSE TO BE GOOD FOR. WHAT IS DISTURBING IS THAT WALMART IS STILL SELLING THIS DEFECTIVE TIRE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC WITH THIS KNOWN DEFECT. *TR
THE SENSORS FOR MY TPMS CORRODE AND BRAKE LETTING THE AIR OUT OF THE TIRES. I WENT TO REMOVE 2 OF THE VALVE STEM CAPS THIS PAST WEEKEND AND THE STEMS BROKE RIGHT OFF LETTING THE PRESSURE OUT OF THE TIRES. THE VEHICLE INVOLVED IS A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY LX MINIVAN WITH STOW-N-GO SEATING. AFTER REPAIRING A FLAT TIRE, THE SPARE TIRE HANGER JAMMED, CAUSING THE TIRE TO APPEAR IN PLACE BUT ACTUALLY LOOSE. THE HANGER IS A WINCH WITH A WIRE ROPE THAT RETRACTS TO HANG THE TIRE UNDER THE MID-SECTION OF THE VAN. THE WIRE ROPE SPOOLED UNEVENLY, JAMMING AGAINST THE HOUSING. NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED, BUT THERE IS HIGH POTENTIAL FOR HARM TO OTHER DRIVERS IF THE TIRE WERE TO FALL TO THE ROADWAY. *TR
I HAD A FLAT TIRE TODAY AND THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER COULD NOT REMOVE THE SPARE, LOCATED UNDER MY CAR. I WAS AMAZED AT THE POOR DESIGN OF THIS SPARE TIRE. WHO PUTS IT UNDER THE CAR??? THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER HAD TO EVENTUALLY GIVE UP AND TEMPORARILY PATCH MY TIRE SO I COULD GET HOME. MY CONCERN IS WHAT IF I WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE AND NOT REMOTELY CLOSE TO MY HOME AND THIS HAPPENED? SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE WITH THIS SPARE TIRE AND ITS LOCATION. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER SAID THIS HAPPENS WITH THIS CAR (AND OTHERS WHO PUT THE SPARE UNDER THE CAR) ALL THE TIME AND THERE WAS NOTHING MORE HE COULD DO TO FIX THE SITUATION BUT TO CHARGE ME A FEE OF $25.00 TO PLUG MY TIRE. HAVE OWNED A 2005 CHRYSLER T&C FOR 7 MONTHS SINCE MAY 2006 AND THE BRIDGESTONE TURANZA EL42 TIRES HAVE EXPERIENCED ABNORMAL OUTSIDE EDGE TIRE WEAR AS WELL AS SEVERE ABNORMAL VIBRATION WHEN ACCELERATING. VIBRATION IS FELT IN GAS PEDAL, SEAT AND STEERING WHEEL. HAD TIRES ROTATED/BALANCED/ALIGNMENT CHECK AND 5 SEPARATE SERVICE GARAGES LOOK AT VIBRATION ISSUE BUT NO SOLUTION. CHRYSLER DEALER TOLD ME BACK IN JULY 2006 THEY DID NOT FEEL THE VIBRATION BUT EVERY OTHER PERSON THAT HAS DRIVEN VEHICLE FEELS THE ABNORMAL VIBRATION AND THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. TIRES ALSO HAVE HAD "INDENTATIONS/LINES" IN ALL TIRES SINCE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW WITH LESS THAN 200 MILES ON IT. I NOW HAVE 8,200 MILES ON VEHICLE AND AM CONCERNED ABOUT REPORTS OF DOZENS OF OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT TIRE FAILURE/BLOW OUT AS VALID REGISTERED COMPLAINTS. I WOULD LIKE TO REPLACE THESE TIRES WITH ANOTHER BRAND BUT NOT AT MY EXPENSE SINCE IT SHOULD BE A TIRE MANUFACTURER SAFETY ISSUE. TIRE SIZE IS 215/65R16 EVEN THOUGH THE PULL DOWN BOX DID NOT LET ME SELECT MY CORRECT SIZE. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE MECHANIC COULD NOT REMOVE THE VALVE STEM WHEN ATTEMPTING TO INSTALL NEW TIRES. THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO YEARS OF THE VALVE CORE BREAKING OFF THE VALVE STEM. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALER AND TWO VALVE STEMS WERE REPLACED. THE NEWER VALVE STEMS, WHICH WERE MADE OF POT METAL, CORRODED AFTER 40,000 MILES. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 55,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,733. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE WERE 1/8 INCH DEEP PUCKERS IN THE SIDEWALLS OF ALL FOUR TIRES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER. THE TIRES WERE INSPECTED AND DEEMED UNSAFE DUE TO A FLAW WHICH WAS NOT DISCUSSED WITH THE CONTACT. THE TIRE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND AUTHORIZED REPLACEMENT OF THE TIRES. UPDATED 9/20/2006 - *NM

TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS ARE NOT CORRECTLY CALIBRATED ON BY '05 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY MINI-VAN. MY DEALER REFUSES TO CALIBRATE THEM. THEY INSIST THAT I OVER INFLATE MY TIRES TO COMPENSATE FOR THE MIS-CALIBRATED SENSORS. *JB
