BRAKE ISSUES - HAVING TO REPLACE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS, WE ARE ON OUR THIRD SET FOR OUR 2008 CHRY TOWN AND COUNTRY MINI VAN. PRESENT MILEAGE 39884. ON TWO OCCASIONS THE BRAKES OVER HEATED WITH SMOKE, LOTS OF SMOKE. ONCE IN DEC.2009 AND THE OTHER 2010. WE USED SNOW TO COOL OFF THE BRAKES. WE WERE CONCERNED THAT A FIRE WOULD START. WE HAD TAKEN OUR VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THE BRAKES AND WE WERE TOLD THEY WERE FINE THIS PRIOR TO THE SMOKING INCIDENT IN 2009. LATER IN OCTOBER 2009 WE WENT TO FIRESTONE TO GET THE TIRES ROTATED THEY ADVISED THE BRAKES NEED TO BE REPLACED AT 22,324 MILES. THEY CALLED THE DEALER AND REPORTED THE BRAKES, THE DEALER ADVISED BRAKES WERE NOT COVERED. WE HAD THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS REPLACED A COUPLE DAYS LATER ON OWN. THEN IN JULY 2010 THE BRAKES OVER HEATED AND SMOKED AGAIN. ON SEPT 2010 THE BRAKE PADS AND FRONT ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED. UPON LOOKING INTO THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET THERE SEEMS TO BE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS WITH THE 2008 CHRY TOWN AND COUNTRY HAVING BRAKE ISSUES. WE DID GET A NOTICE FROM CHRY. BUT THERE SEEM TO BE A BIGGER ISSUE. *TR
IN DECEMBER 2009 THERE WAS A LOUD RUMBLING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT OF MY CAR. I TOOK IT TO MERLINS & WAS TOLD IT WAS BOTH FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS. I PAID $600 TO HAVE THE BEARINGS REPAIRED. NOW IN SEPTEMBER 2011 I'M HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM THAT THE FRONT BEARINGS NEED TO BE REPAIRED. *TR
PREMATURE BRAKE WEAR/FAILURE ON 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. *TR
I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY VAN IN NOV 2008. AFTER ABOUT A YEAR, DEC 2009 MY VAN STARTED SHAKING BADLY DURING BRAKING. IT HAD 17,050 MI (MOSTLY HIGHWAY MILES). I BROUGHT THE VAN INTO A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. THEY TOLD ME THE BRAKES WERE 100% SHOT AND I NEEDED A COMPLETE BRAKE REPLACEMENT (ROTORS, PADS, FLUSH, ETC.) WHICH COST ME $650. I CALLED CHRYSLER COMPLAINING THAT BRAKES ON A NEW VEHICLE SHOULD NOT WEAR OUT ON A VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 17K MILES (ESPECIALLY THE REAR BRAKES). CHRYSLER TOLD ME THIS WAS NORMAL BUT WOULD LOOK INTO IT. AFTER A MONTH I'VE NOT HEARD BACK. I'VE OWNED A 1992 AND 1999 CHRYSLER VANS AND NEVER HAD THESE BRAKE PROBLEMS. THE FRONT BRAKES ON MY OLDER VANS LASTED OVER 35K MILES AND THE REAR LASTED OVER 50K MILES. MY NEIGHBOR OWNS A 2006 TOWN & COUNTRY AND HAS HAD ONLY 2 BRAKE JOBS IN 80K MILES. APPARENTLY HE BRAKE DESIGN DID NOT CHANGE MUCH FROM THE 2007 MODEL HOWEVER THE 2008 GAINED A LOT OF WEIGHT (NEW MODEL) WHICH CONTRIBUTED TO THE PREMATURE BRAKE FAILURE. MINIMALLY, CHRYSLER SHOULD HAVE NOTIFIED ME OF THE PREMATURE BRAKE FAILURES BUT NEVER DID. I'VE CHECKED SAFETY COMPLAINTS ON YOUR ODI WEBSITE AND SAW 85 COMPLAINTS FOR BRAKES ON THE 2008 T&C. I ALSO CHECKED COMPLAINTS FOR EARLIER YEARS AND ONLY SAW ONLY A VERY FEW BRAKE COMPLAINTS. I'VE CHECKED THE INTERNET AND FOUND HUNDREDS UPON HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS RELATED TO BRAKE PROBLEMS ON THE 08 T&C. SO HERE'S MY SUMMARY: 1) I NEVER EXPECTED THE BRAKES TO GO AT SUCH LOW MILEAGE SO IF I NEEDED TO DO AN EMERGENCY STOP I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT. 2) APPARENTLY THERE WAS A DESIGN FLAW BUT CHRYSLER REFUSES TO ADMIT IT 3) CHRYSLER IS SILENTLY REIMBURSING OWNERS WHO FILE THE LOUDEST COMPLAINTS. ODI: YOU HAVE ALL THESE BRAKE COMPLAINTS FOR THE 08 T&C SO HOW IS IT THAT TOYOTA IS GETTING BASHED FOR THEIR BRAKES BUT CHRYSLER CONTINUES TO PRODUCE THEIR VANS WITH DEFECTIVE BRAKES?????? *TR
MY 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY NEEDS NEW BRAKES AND THE FRONT AND REAR ROTORS RESURFACED AFTER ONLY 12,000 MILES. IT DOES NOT SEEM REASONABLE THAT THE BRAKES WOULD WEAR DOWN SO QUICKLY. *TR
MY 2008 T&C WAS PURCHASED IN MAY OF '08 AND HAS 14K MILES ON IT. WITH NO PRIOR WARNING, THE BRAKES WERE METAL ON METAL WHEN WE COME UPON TRAFFIC AT 70 MPH. WE WERE ABLE TO AVOID A COLLISION (THANKFULLY) USING THE LOWER TRANSMISSION GEARS. NOW, THE DEALERSHIP HAS INFORMED ME THAT IT IS MY RESPONSIBILITY BECAUSE THE WARRANTY IS ONLY FOR 1 YEAR/12K MILES, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS THEIR OVERSIGHT FOR NOT INFORMING ME THAT THE PADS WERE LOW AT MY 12K SERVICE. NOW, I NEED NEW PADS AND THE ROTORS RE-SURFACED. I FIND IT AMAZING THAT A VEHICLE THAT COSTS OVER $45K HAS SUCH POOR QUALITY MATERIALS THAT COULD ENDANGER LIVES. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE. *TR
MY 2008 TOWN AND COUNTRY HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS DUE TO HEAVY NOISE AND WEAR OUT AT 12,750 MILES. MY MECHANIC SUGGESTED THE CALIPER IS DEFECTIVE AND IT CAUSES THE PROBLEM. BUT THE DEALER WON'T AGREE. SO THEY REPLACED JUST THE PADS AND ROTOR. NOW AT 28,000 MILES, THAT IS ANOTHER 15000 MILES, THE SAME PROBLEM ARISES. THE ROTORS AND PADS ARE FULLY GONE AND IT HAS A HUGE NOISE WHEN BRAKING WITH NO BRAKE IN EFFECT. *TR
I LEASE A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY MINIVAN. WE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT BRAKE NOISES SINCE TAKING POSSESSION OF THE VEHICLE. NOW, AT 18,000MILES, I AM TOLD THAT THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS NEED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS ALSO TOLD BY CHRYSLER THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. CHRYSLER REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS OTHER THAN GIVE ME A 20% DISCOUNT ON THE REPAIR. *TR
CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY MINIVAN - YEAR = 2008, BRAKES AND ROTORS DO NOT HOLD UP, NEED REPLACING AFTER ONLY 15,000 MILES, MANY CONSUMERS HAVING SAME ISSUE. *TR
2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY BRAKES WERE REPLACED AT 20,000 MILES AND FACTORY WARRANTY WAS FOR 10,000 MILES. I HAD TO REPLACE BOTH BREAK PADS AND ROTORS ON A NEW VEHICLE. *TR
AT APPROX. 34,000 MILES - WHILE DRIVING THE ENGINE WOULD SHUT OFF (NO POWER STEERING/NO POWER BRAKES), HORN WOULD SOUND CONSTANTLY, INSTRUMENT PANEL WOULD TURN OFF, WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD TURN ON AND SOMETIMES THE BRAKES WOULD PARTIALLY ACTIVATE. IT TOOK 3 TRIPS TO DEALER TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER REPLACED THE IGNITION KEYS WE HAD AND THIS SEEMED TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. 35,000 MILES - SAME SYMPTOMS AS ABOVE. THE ONLY WAY TO RE-START THE VEHICLE WAS TO DIS-CONNECT THE BATTERY. AFTER RECONNECTING THE BATTERY AND RESTARTING THE ENGINE THE VEHICLE WOULD OPERATE PROPERLY FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES, THEN WE HAD TO REPEAT THE PROCESS. EVENTUALLY THE DEALER REPLACED A COMPUTER CARD WHICH SO FAR HAS RECTIFIED THE PROBLEM. **IMPORTANT TO NOTE** THE DEALER STATED THEY COULD NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE UNLESS THEY COULD GET THE VEHICLE TO REPEAT THE PROBLEM. THEY REPORTEDLY COULD NOT GET THE VEHICLE TO REPEAT THE PROBLEM. THEY DID NOT CONSIDER CUSTOMER REPORT OF THE PROBLEM TO BE SUFFICIENT. *TR

LEASED 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY IN MARCH 2008. AT 12,000 MILES WE EXPERIENCED LOSS OF BRAKING, SCREECHING, GRINDING AND HAD DEALER INSPECT BRAKES - WAS TOLD PADS WERE COMPLETELY WORN TO METAL AND HAD TO HAVE BRAKE PADS REPLACED AND ROTORS MACHINED. AT 21000 LOSS OF BRAKING AGAIN, GRINDING, PULLING AND DEALER REPORTS THAT ROTORS ARE BELOW MACHINE TOLERANCE, PADS ARE WORN TO METAL AND ROTORS HAVE TO BE REPLACED. DEALER REPORTS THIS IS "NORMAL" FOR THIS VAN. CLEARLY THE BRAKE MATERIALS/SYSTEM ARE INADEQUATE FOR THIS VAN AND PRESENT A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE - AS NO DRIVER HAS AN EXPECTATION OF BRAKE WEAR AND FAILURE AT 12,000 MILE INTERVALS. *TR

ON ALL PREVIOUS VEHICLES 2 ISUZU RODEOS AND LAST ONE WAS FORD TAURUS ALL 3 HAD 200.000+ MILES WHEN SOLD . ALL OF THEM REQUIRED ONLY 2 SETS OF BRAKE PADS ON FRONT WHEELS ,ONE SET ON REAR ,AND DID NOT HAVE TO RESURFACE ANY ROTORS ON ANY OF MY VEHICLES I DO MOST OF SERVICEWORK AFTER WARRANTY EX AS WELL AS 2 TRUCKS 1 1992 CHV 4X4 EX CAB 227,000 IS ON ITS THIRD SET FROM FACTORY, 1 04 FORD CREW CAB 55,000 AND BRAKES ARE HALF WORN.(( NOW OUR PROBLEM CHY VAN 22,000 MILE BRAKE DUST THAT WAS A THICK FILM, LIKE THE COLOR OF THE USED OIL, THE DUST WAS THICK AFTER THE FIRST 5-600 MILES I CALLED THE SERVICE DEP AND WAS TOLD THAT IS A PROBLEM WITH MOST 08 DODGE, CHY VEH AND THEY HAVE NOT COME OUT WITH ANY NEW BRAKE PADS OR ROTORS TO REMEDY THIS,BUT SAID THEY HAVE MADE A SPRAY THAT YOU SPRAY ON RIMS SO DUST WILL NOT ACCUMULATE AS MUCH BUILDUP ON WHEELS . I TOLD THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT WE DID NOT SPEND 36,000 ON A VEHICLE TO WIPE WHEELS OFF EVERY 3-400 MILES OR BUY A CAN OF THEIR SPRAY FOR I THINK IT WAS AROUND 16-18 DOLLARS. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO ABOUT IT .AND I SAID YES YOU CAN I WILL HAVE MY WIFE COME BY HERE EVERY FRI AFTER NOON SO HE COULD WIPE THE BRAKE DUST OFF !! HE DIDN'T THINK THAT WAS TO FUNNY,SO EACH TIME I HAD THE 3 OIL CHANGES DONE I HAD THEM WIPE OFF WHEELS ON THERE TIME. SO HERE WE ARE TODAY 12-14 2009 22,000 MILES ON VAN WITH EX BRAKE PAD,ROTOR WEAR AND UNEVEN PAD WEAR FRONT L OUTSIDE FACE FINE, WITH ABOUT 3/16 PAD REM, INSIDE FRONT PAD METAL TO METAL ON LOWER HALF OF ROTOR ,UPPER HALF HAS 1/8 LEFT ON PAD .PASSFRONT PADS HAVE 3/16 LEFT WITH BOTH FRONT ROTORS HAVING A GOOD 3/16 WEAR GROVE INDENT LIP AT TOP OF ROTOR. LEAVING NOT ENOUGH FACE TO RESURFACE . PARTS ONLY 400 NO LABOR,NO ONE HELPS!! *TR
I HAVE OWNED A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY MINIVAN SINCE NEW AND IT CURRENTLY HAS 27,200 MILES ON IT. ALMOST ALL (APPROX. 20000) ARE HIGHWAY / COAST TO COAST MILES. THE FRONT BRAKES AND ROTORS ARE BAD AND NEED REPLACING. I HAVE TWO OTHER VEHICLES WITH OVER 60,000 MILES ON THEM AND THE BRAKES ARE STILL OKAY. 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY FACTORY BRAKES ARE DEFECTIVE IN MY OPINION AND MANY BELIEVE ARE TOO SMALL FOR THE VEHICLE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE HAD TO REPLACE THE RIGHT AND THE LEFT WHEEL BEARING DUE TO A LOUD NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE WHEEL BEARINGS WERE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CAN HEAR THE NOISE IN THE FRONT OF HER VEHICLE WHEN SHE ACCELERATES. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
I HAVE A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY VAN WITH JUST 22,000 MILES ON IT AND HAVE BEEN TOLD I NEED NEW BRAKES AND ROTORS. I HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE PADS AT THIS LOW OF MILEAGE. I HAVE HEARD FROM OTHERS THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THESE VANS DUE TO THE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS BEING TO SMALL. I FEEL THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD BE MADE TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND PUT ADEQUATE BRAKES ON THEM. *TR
MY 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY STARTED MAKING FRONT BRAKE NOISE AT 25,000 MILES. WHEN REMOVING THE FRONT WHEELS FOR TIRE ROTATION, NOTICED THE PADS WERE WORN DOWN AND THE ROTORS HAD A DEEP RIDGE ON THE OUTSIDE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH SHE HEARD A HUMMING NOISE; HOWEVER, WHEN SHE PUT HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL SHE HEARD THE NOISE AGAIN. SHE STOPPED TO CHECK THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THE LEFT REAR TIRE WAS SMOKING. SHE ALLOWED THE BRAKES TO COOL DOWN. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED NEW BRAKE PADS, ROTORS, AND CALIPERS AND CONFIRMED THAT THE WARRANTY ONLY COVERED THE CALIPER. THE BRAKE PADS, ROTORS, AND CALIPERS WERE REPLACED. THE REPAIR COST WAS $615.00. A REPORT 19213709 WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER BELIEVES THAT SHE LEFT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON AND THAT CAUSED THE REAR BRAKES TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE HAS EXCEEDED THE 12,000 MILE WARRANTY; THEREFORE HER REQUEST FOR REIMBURSEMENT WAS DENIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 36,000.
I HAVE HAD MAJOR BRAKE PROBLEMS WITH MY TOWN AND COUNTRY 2008 VAN. I FIRST NEED NEW ROTORS AND PADS AT 11,000. CHRYSLER COVERED THAT UNDER WARRANTY. THEN AGAIN AT ABOUT 23,000 MILES MY PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND ROTORS REFINISHED. THE SECOND JOB I HAD DONE AT MIDAS, THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND RESURFACE THE ROTORS TWO MORE TIMES (IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS) BECAUSE THEY KEEP GLAZING. BOTTOM LINE IN CONVERSATIONS THAT I HAVE HAD, IT SOUNDS LIKE THE ROTORS THEY PUT ON THIS VEHICLE ARE NOT LARGE ENOUGH TO HANDLE THE WEIGHT OF THE VAN. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND IT IS CREATING MUCH ANXIETY IN ME. I AM ALWAYS LISTENING TO THE BRAKES AND WONDER HOW SOON I AM GOING TO HAVE TO TAKE THEM TO BE REPAIRED AGAIN. I ALSO WORRY THAT THIS CAN BE A DANGEROUS ISSUE. I FOUND FORUMS ON-LINE WHERE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. *TR

2008 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY - FRONT BRAKE PADS NEEDED REPLACING AFTER ONLY 16,700 MILES AND 1 1/2 YEARS. LEFT FRONT BRAKE PAD HAD GONE SLIGHTLY ASKEW AND MADE A GROOVE IN THE ROTOR, WHICH NEEDED REPLACEMENT. DEALER ATTRIBUTED IT TO "NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR" AND WOULD NOT COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY. NEVER HAVE I HAD TO REPLACE BRAKES ON A BRAND NEW CAR! *TR

CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY WITH 21,000 MILES ONLY PRESENTS EXCESSIVE WEAR OF BRAKE PADS. SYMPTOMS OF THE PROBLEM WERE NOISE, VIBRATION AND LATELY DIFFICULTY IN BRAKING: CAR DID NOT STOP WITH BRAKE PEDAL FULL DOWN. DEALER SERVICE REPORTS STATES THAT FRONT BRAKE PADS HAVE ONLY 5% LIFE REMAINING AND PADS AND ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED FOR A TOTAL COST OF $335 AT OWNER EXPENSE. CHRYSLER HAS ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN NO. 05-006-08 ON 12.09.2008 STATING THAT "FRONT BRAKE PADS MAY EXHIBIT EXCESSIVE NOISE, SQUEAL/SHUDDER/VIBRATION AND/OR LINING LIFE COMPLAINTS." BUT HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL EVEN IF THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE DID NOT REFUND THE EXPENSE FOR PADS AND ROTORS REPLACEMENT STATING THAT BRAKES ARE A WEAR COMPONENT AND WEAR OUT IN DIFFERENT WAYS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 39,300.

BRAKES ON 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY PREMATURELY WORN AT 23,000 MILES. BRAKES WERE INSPECTED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AT 19,200 MILES DURING A ROUTINE TIRE ROTATION AND NO NOTIFICATION OF WORN BRAKE PADS WAS GIVEN. AT APPROXIMATELY 22,000 MILES WE BEGAN TO HEAR A LIGHT GRINDING IN THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL DURING BRAKING. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AT 23,600 MILES FOR INSPECTION OF THE GRINDING, WHICH HAD GOTTEN SIGNIFICANTLY WORSE. I WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE BRAKES WERE DOWN TO METAL ON METAL AND THE ROTORS WERE TOO FAR GONE TO RESURFACE. AUTHORIZED DEALER REPLACED THE ROTORS, BRAKE PADS, AND FLUSHED AND REPLACED THE BRAKE FLUID AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE OF $575. THIS APPEARS TO BE PREMATURE FOR PADS TO GO TO METAL ON METAL AT ONLY 23,600 MILES WITH NO PRIOR NOTIFICATION. THERE WAS NO WARNING OF WORN BRAKE PADS SUCH AS A WEAR SENSOR OR INDICATOR WHICH CAUSES A SQUEALING IN THE BRAKES ON MOST VEHICLES. FIRST INDICATION THAT THE PADS WERE WORN WAS WHEN THE METAL ON METAL SOUND WAS HEARD. *TR

I PURCHASED MY 2008 T & C 4 MONTHS AGO AND IT HAS 14,000 AND IT NOW HAS ONLY 17,000 MILES. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WERE SEVERAL REPAIRS MADE TO THE BRAKES PREVIOUSLY INCLUDING A REPLACEMENT OF THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS IN NOVEMBER 2009. THE REAR ROTORS WERE REPLACED MAY 2010 AND THE FRONT ROTORS WERE REPLACED AGAIN IN JULY 2010. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE WOULD CEASE FOR A LIMITED TIME BEFORE RECURRING. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THE REPAIR COSTS BUT COULD NOT PROVIDE A PERMANENT REMEDY TO THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17,002 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 31,000.

SHE STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS MAKING A SQUEALING NOISE WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE SHOES AND BRAKES. TWO MONTHS LATER, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL TIRE SHOP FOR REGULAR TIRE MAINTENANCE WHERE THEY FOUND THE BRAKE SHOES WERE WORN OUT AND THE VEHICLE WAS IN NEED OF NEW BRAKES YET AGAIN. NO FURTHER REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE TO CORRECT THE PREMATURE WEAR OF THE BRAKES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,000 AND THE CURRENT WAS 34,000.
I HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE 2008 CHRYSLER MINIVAN. ELECTRICAL, ENGINE, IGNITION, ETC. I EVEN HAD THE ONE DOOR NOT HAVE THE SENSOR GO OFF AND PINCH MY ONE TWINS LEG INTO THE DOOR! OVER THE YEARS, THE IGNITION SWITCH POPS OVER AND STOPS THE CAR COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING AT INTERMITTENT TIMES. I COULD BE GOING 20 MILES AN HOUR OR ON THE HIGHWAY DRIVING AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED. THE WHOLE VAN SHUTS DOWN SO IF YOU ARE ON THE HIGHWAY, YOU CAN BARELY STEER TO GET OVER (AND THANKFULLY I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO SO). I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN JUNE. IT IS NOVEMBER AND MY VAN STILL ISN'T FIXED. THE DEALERSHIP AND CHRYSLER KNOW THAT I AM HAVING THE ISSUE AND HAVE HAD IT. I HAVE CALLED AND VOICED MY COMPLAINTS. I AM "NUMBER 5" IN LINE TO GET THE PART! SO, WHAT WILL CHRYSLER DO WHEN I GET REAR ENDED OR INJURED WHEN MY VEHICLE FAILS TO OPERATE. THE VAN SHUTS OFF AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK WHILE I AM DRIVING IT. DEALER BLAMED IT ON A HEAVIER VAN AND OUR TYPE OF DRIVING AND TO EXPECT TO HAVE TO DO BRAKE WORK AGAIN IN 15,000 TO 20,000 MILES. LATER, AT 16,000 MILES BRAKES SQUEAKED UNDER ALL BRAKING CONDITIONS. ROTORS WERE 1.075 AND 1.079 (MIN SPEC 1.040); PADS WERE 90% WORN. I THEN CALLED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE REP AND SENIOR RESOLUTION TEAM- NO LUCK. I WENT TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP- NO LUCK. AT 16,000 MILES FRONT AND REAR PADS AND REAR ROTORS WERE REPLACED AND FRONT ROTORS RESURFACED AGAIN WHICH PUT THEM BELOW SPECS AND AT 20,000 MILES FRONT ROTORS WERE REPLACED DUE TO DEALER ERROR IN MACHINING THE ROTORS BELOW SPECS AND REPLACED FRONT PADS. BRAKES HAVE A VERY LOUD SQUEAL THAT IS EAR PIERCING AND NOT NORMAL BUT I WAS TOLD BY A 3RD DEALER THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE THAT I JUST HAVE TO LIVE WITH DUE TO POOR DESIGN ON BRAKES OF THESE VEHICLES. VERY UNHAPPY WITH MY PURCHASE. I HAVE ONLY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR 1 1/2 YEARS AND ONLY PUT 9,000 MILES ON IT SO FAR AND I AM NOT INTERESTED IN REPLACING BRAKES TO LINE THE POCKETS OF A STRUGGLING VEHICLE MANUFACTURER BY PURCHASING THEIR PARTS. FAULTY BRAKES ON MY 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY LIMITED. MY VAN HAS 49,897 MILES ON IT AND IT NEEDS A 5TH SET OF FRONT PADS. THE 4TH SET OF PADS WERE REPLACED ON 7-9-09 WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD 39,525 MILES ON IT. AT THAT TIME THE FRONT PADS, FRONT ROTORS, REAR PADS AND REAR ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED. THREE MONTHS LATER ON 10-10-09 I WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN WITH 49,897 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. EACH TIME THE BRAKES WERE OEM PARTS REPLACED BY THE DEALER. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION BECAUSE THE BRAKES ARE NOT MAKING ANY NOISES, BUT COULD GIVE OUT AT ANY MOMENT CAUSING A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM AND I AM REQUESTING A RECALL FROM CHRYSLER. *TR
