TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE CHARGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER TURNING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, HE HEARD A LOUD ABNORMAL NOISE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND SAW THAT THE BATTERY HAD EXPLODED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT UNHOOKED THE FAULTY BATTERY AND REPLACED IT WITH A NEW ONE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 105,000.
AFTER FILLING UP GAS TANK COMPLETELY MY CAR WILL DIE EVERY TIME, SOMETIMES ABOUT 5 MINUTES AFTER I PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC. IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR OVER A YEAR NOW. I WOULD LIKE TO REFERENCE PE13-016, DODGE/CHRYSLER SAYS I WILL HAVE TO 1800$ TO HAVE THIS FIXED AND THAT THERE IS NO EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THIS FAULTY SETUP. *TR
THIS ISN'T THE 1ST TIME THAT THE ENGINE HAS STALLED AFTER FILLING THE FUEL TANK. MOST RECENT EPISODE HAPPENED AS I WAS PREPARING TO ENTER THE GAS STATIONS DRIVE-THRU CAR WASH...I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO ENTER THE CODE FOR THE WASH AND JUST AS I STARTED TO MOVE FORWARD THE ENGINE STALLED. HAPPENED A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO ON THE PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY, I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT (JUST AFTER A FUEL UP AND JUST BEFORE I WAS ABOUT TO ENTER THE FREEWAY). ANOTHER TIME I WAS IN MOTION AND IT STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION. THE STALLING AFFECTS THE TRANSMISSION. THE ENGINE IS WARM WHEN THIS OCCURS. IT TAKES ABOUT 3 ATTEMPTS TO SUCCESSFULLY RESTART. *TR
CAR WAS RUNNING FINE, STOPPED AT A GAS STATION AND FILLED THE TANK. AFTER LEAVING THE STATION AND PULLING INTO TRAFFIC THE CAR ENGINE DIED. ALMOST WAS REAR ENDED DUE TO THE CAR STOPPING INSTEAD OF ACCELERATING. PULLED OVER TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE LANE AND TRIED TO RESTART. SECOND ATTEMPT THE CAR STARTED AND I PULLED OUT INTO THE LANE AND DROVE ABOUT A BLOCK AND THE CAR ENGINE SHUT OFF AGAIN IN AN INTERSECTION. ANOTHER CLOSE CALL WITH OTHER VEHICLES. I RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND DROVE AROUND TO SEE IF THE ENGINE WOULD QUIT AGAIN, IT DID, 2 MORE TIMES. FINALLY IT STAYED RUNNING FOR AWHILE SO I DROVE IT HOME APPROX 10 MILES WITH NO PROBLEMS. THOUGHT I HAD GOTTEN BAD GAS OR WATER IN THE FUEL. DROVE IT FOR A WEEK NO PROBLEMS. THE NEXT TIME I REFUELED AT A DIFFERENT GAS STATION AND IT HAPPENED ALL OVER AGAIN, SAME SYMPTOMS. THE PROBLEM IS ASSOCIATED WITH FILLING THE FUEL TANK. AFTER FILLING TANK WITH FUEL, CAR STALLS AND DIES SEVERAL TIMES DUE TO FLOODING. WEB SEARCH REVEALS THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND ONLY SOLUTION TO FULLY RESOLVE IS TO REPLACE FUEL TANK WITH ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT. IF THIS PROBLEM IS AS PERVASIVE AS IT SEEMS, THEN AN INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE INITIATED AND A RECALL BEGUN. A CAR DYING REPEATEDLY IN TRAFFIC IS A VERY BAD THING. *TR
AFTER FILLING UP THE FUEL TANK, LEAVING THE GAS STATION THE CAR STALLED OUT SEVERAL TIMES. FIRST OUT OF THE GAS STATION , THEN 2 MORE TIMES WHILE GETTING ON THE FREEWAY. VERY NERVE RACKING. THIS HAS BEEN A CONSISTENT SITUATION EVERYTIME I HAVE FILLED UP FOR THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO USE THE VEHICLE TO TRAVEL BACK AND FORTH TO WORK OR OTHER BUSINESS NEEDS. NOT REAL HAPPY RIGHT NOW. HAVE CONTACT DEALER AND WAITING RESPONSE. *TR
WHEN VEHICLE GETS FILLED UP WITH FUEL, THE VEHICLE WILL STALL AND ALSO QUIT RUNNING AT IDLE AND WHILE ACCELERATING. CALLED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP THEY HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM. SEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION HAS CLOSED AN INVESTIGATION ON THIS PROBLEM. SUPPOSEDLY CHRYSLER IS FIXING IT, BUT LIKE I PREVIOUSLY WROTE, THE LAWTON CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE DEALERSHIP HAS NO KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT IS GOING ON. *TR
THE FIRST TIME THE ISSUE HAPPENED WAS RIGHT AFTER WE FILLED UP GAS, WE DROVE ONTO THE I-5 AND PROCEEDED UP THE GRAPEVINE IN CALIFORNIA, VERY STEEP GRADE. AS WE STARTED GOING UP THE CAR BOGGED AND DIED, WHICH SLOWED OUR SPEED DRAMATICALLY AS WELL AS GAVE ME VERY HARD STEERING AT 65 MPH. WE ALMOST GOT REAR-ENDED BY A LARGER VEHICLE BEHIND US, DO TO OUR RAPID DE-ACCELERATION GOING UP HILL WITH NO BRAKE LIGHTS. THE REASON FOR NO BRAKE LIGHTS IS BECAUSE I WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN ON MY OWN. THAN THE CAR TOOK ABOUT 15 CRANKS TO START ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THAN I PROCEEDED TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC WHICH WAS A SAFE MERGE, UNTIL THE CAR BOGGED A SECOND TIME IN THE SLOW LANE WHICH THIS TIME I HAD A SEMI TRUCK BEHIND US. ANOTHER CLOSE CALL GETTING TO THE SHOULDER. WE WAITED 5 MINUTES STARTED CAR AGAIN AND PROCEEDED ON OUR WAY WITH NO PROBLEMS. SINCE THIS FIRST INCIDENT IN JAN 2013, OUR CAR HAS DONE THIS ABOUT A DOZEN OTHER TIMES. THERE WERE TIMES DRIVING AROUND CORNERS WHEN THE CAR BOGGED AND DIED WHICH MADE IT VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER WITHOUT POWER STEERING. AFTER MANY INCIDENTS WERE FIGURED OUT THIS ONLY HAPPENS DIRECTLY AFTER FILL UP. IF THE TANK IS FILLED MORE THAN 7/8 OF THE WAY THE CAR WILL STALL WHILE DRIVING. VERY UNSAFE FOR MY FAMILY AND THIS PROBLEM IS A HUGE ISSUE WITH THESE CARS, EXP. CHARGER, MAGNUM, 300. *JS
I HAD JUST FILLED UP MY CAR WITH FUEL AND UPON EXITING THE GAS STATION MY CAR STALLED. I PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL AND COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I WAITED SEVERAL MINUTES AND RESTARTED THE CAR AND WENT ON MY WAY WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. I HAD BEEN AWARE OF A POTENTIAL PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE FOR THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM WITH INFORMATION I GLEANED FROM INTERNET FORUMS AND THIS HELPED ME TO NOT PANIC WHEN IT EVENTUALLY HAPPENED TO ME. THIS EVENT HAPPENED IN THE EVENING WITH FAIRLY LIGHT TRAFFIC AND WITH THE TRAFFIC LIGHT IN MY FAVOR. HAD THE ROADS BEEN BUSIER AND THE TRAFFIC FLOWING NORTHBOUND AT THE TIME I MAY HAVE BEEN BROADSIDED BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THIS ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN ACKNOWLEDGED OR ADDRESSED BY CHRYSLER TO DATE AS FAR AS I KNOW. *TR
MY CAR HAVE MIS FIRE CYLINDER 1 IT SHAKES WHEN IT COLD THEN AFTER A WHILE IT GOES AWAY,TRANSMISSION DRIVING BAD OUT OF NO WHERE GOING ONLY 30 MILES THE FASTEST IN MY CAR STUCK IN PARK. *TR
TRANSMISSION FAILED TO FUNCTION PROPERLY. THE TRANSMISSION WENT INTO LIMP MODE. PROBLEM DIAGNOSED AS FOULED TRANSMISSION WIRING HARNESS DUE TO FLUID CONTAMINATION. THE SPEED SENSORS AND CONNECTORS AT THE TRANSMISSION WERE DAMAGED BY THE LEAKING OF TRANSMISSION FLUID BY THE O-RINGS ASSOCIATED WITH THE SENSORS AND HARNESS. *TR
AFTER FILLING UP MY GAS TANK WITH FUEL I DROVE MY CAR ABOUT 16 MILES AND IT STALLED OUT, I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND IT DID START BACK UP. NEXT DAY I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND MY ADVISER ASKED ME IF I TOPPED OFF MY TANK AFTER FILLING UP AND I SAID YES, SO HE TOLD ME NOT TO DO THAT BECAUSE THE 06 MODEL CHARGERS HAVE A DEFECT WITH THE GAS TANKS THAT CAUSE'S THE CAR TO STALL OUT AFTER TOPPING IT OFF. I TOOK HIS ADVISE AND MY CAR DIDN'T STALL OUT FOR ABOUT 7 MONTH'S. ON 08/01/13 I FILLED UP MY GAS TANK WITHOUT TOPPING IT OFF, GOT ON THE HIGHWAY DROVE ABOUT 16 MILES AGAIN AND EXITED, AS I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN THE CAR STALLED OUT AGAIN AND IT DID THAT TWO MORE TIMES AS I WAS DRIVING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THIS TIME MY ADVISER TOLD ME TO ONLY FILL UP 3/4 OF A TANK.THE COST FOR THIS REPAIR IS RIDICULOUS AND THE CUSTOMERS WHO PAID 30K TO 45K FOR THESE CARS SHOULD NOT BE STUCK WITH THE BILL. THERE SHOULD BE A URGENT RECALL ON ALL OF THESE CARS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR TURN'S INTO ROAD KILL ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REFUELED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE ENGINE WILL UNEXPECTEDLY STOP. THE EVENT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. OFTEN IT OCCURS AFTER FUELING. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN INTO A GARAGE FOR REPAIR BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. SOMETIMES WHEN THE EVENT OCCURS THE ONLY WAY TO RESTART THE VEHICLE IS TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK, PRESS THE ACCELERATOR ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND TURN ON THE IGNITION. *TR

STALL/DIE/SHUT OFF AFTER FILL UP UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS WHILE IN DRIVE AND IN MOTION. ONLY HAPPENS RIGHT AFTER FILL UP. ONCE YOU BURN SOME OF THE FUEL OUT OF THE TANK, IT RETURNS TO NORMAL. *TR
AFTER FILLING UP MY FUEL TANK UP FOR THE FIRST TIME THE CAR WAS HARD TO RESTART. ONCE THE CAR STARTED THE SHE KEPT CUTTING OUT AND EVEN DIED TWICE. THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS IN TRAFFIC. SINCE THAT TIME EVERY TIME I FILLED THE TANK I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. I HAVE HAD TO RESORT TO ONLY FILLING THE CAR UP TO 3/4 TANK TO AVOID THIS ISSUE. *TR

IF IM STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND IT DOES IT I HAVE TO PUT IT IN PARK AND CRANK IT BACK UP BUT THEN IT TAKES A 10-15 SECONDS BEFORE IT WILL GO INTO GEAR. THE PROBLEM USE TO HAPPEN ONCE OR TWICE IN A DAY AND THEN IT MAY BE 2 WEEKS BEFORE IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. NOW THE CAR IS NOT DRIVABLE AS IT DOES THIS CONSTANT. I GOT A NEW FRONT CONTROL MODULE AND DROVE IT ABOUT 20 MILES AND IT STARTED AGAIN. *TR
NOT SURE OF EXACT FIRST DATE OR MILEAGE THIS HAPPENED, BUT AROUND 12/17/12 AND 92,000 MILES I WENT TO GAS STATION AND FILLED TANK, THEN DROVE APPROX 1.5 MILES TOWARDS HOME, AND THEN WHILE GOING ABOUT 25 MPH ON SLIGHT DOWNWARD SLOPE IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD VEHICLE STALLED OUT COMPLETELY WITHOUT ANY WARNING AND OIL LIGHT CAME ON. I LET CAR SIT OFF FOR FEW MINUTES AND THEN IT RESTARTED, THEN I DROVE LESS THAN 0.5 MILES AND CAR STALLED AGAIN WHEN BACKING INTO GARAGE SO I DID NOT ATTEMPT TO RESTART AND PUSHED CAR INTO GARAGE SINCE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM BEFORE ON THIS VEHICLE, OR ANY VEHICLE I HAVE EVER OWNED IN 20 YEARS. THEN SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN IN JAN 2013 RIGHT AFTER FILLUP, CAR STALLED WITHIN 100 YARDS OF PULLING OUT OF GAS STATION IN TRAFFIC, BUT WAS ABLE TO RESTART BUT RAN ROUGHLY FOR FIRST FEW MINUTES AFTER RESTART. THEN HAPPENED AGAIN A FEW MORE TIMES BETWEEN JAN - MARCH AFTER FILLUPS. THEN ON 4/17/13 HAPPENED FEW MINUTES AFTER FILLUP WHILE ON HIGHWAY RAMP AND VEHICLE ALMOST GOT HIT BY CARS COMING BEHIND ME WITH WIFE IN CAR. THAT TIME VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART AFTER TWO ATTEMPTS, BUT LET SIT FOR FEW MINUTES AND THEN APPLIED GAS PEDAL AND STARTED, AND RAN ROUGH AGAIN FOR FEW MINUTES AFTERWARDS THEN SMOOTHED OUT. VERY LUCKY THAT TIME MY WIFE AND I DID NOT GET REAR ENDED BY CARS SPEEDING UP ON RAMP TO GET ON HIGHWAY SINCE HARDLY ANY SHOULDER AREA TO PULL OVER. SINCE THAT INCIDENT I HAVE BEEN FILLING UP TANK USING SLOWEST PUMPING SELECTION TO TRY AND AVOID STALLOUTS AFTER FILLUPS. CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM BASED UPON INFO I PULLED OFF WEB, AND ONLY PERMANENT RECOMMEND FIX WAS TO REPLACE GAS TANK AND ALL LINES SINCE THEY COME AS ONE ASSEMBLY UNIT, BUT THAT SOUNDS LIKE A DEFINITE MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT TO ME AS OPPOSED TO A NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR ISSUE, AND SHOULD BE MADE INTO A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED. *TR

IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE SHIFTED OUT OF PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIE ROD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V313000 (AIR BAGS) HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,300.
AFTER REFUELING, THE VEHICLE STALLS AND RUNS ROUGH. USUALLY REQUIRES RESTARTING A COUPLE OF TIMES BEFORE IT EVENTUALLY SMOOTHES OUT. HAS STALLED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE ON FREEWAY AFTER REFUELING NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING PROBLEM EVERY TIME VEHICLE IS REFUELED FOR THE PAST 2-3 YEARS. MY CAR HAS HAD MULTIPLE OCCURRENCES WHERE I AM SITTING AT A STOPLIGHT IN TRAFFIC AND THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY SHUT OFF FOR NO REASON. THIS USUALLY OCCURS AFTER I FILL THE GAS TANK COMPLETELY FULL AFTER A TRIP TO THE GAS STATION. MY CAR HAS ALSO DONE THIS WHILE THE CAR IS MOVING. THIS HAS HAPPENED UP TO 70 MPH WHILE TRYING TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CAR ACTUALLY "COUGHED" THEN JUST SORT OF STALLING, SUDDENLY STARTED PERFORMING NORMALLY. THIS VEHICLE HAS STALLED SO MANY TIMES AT STOPLIGHTS IN TRAFFIC THAT MY WIFE IS AFRAID TO DRIVE IT ANYMORE. MY LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER HAS INSTALLED TWO DIFFERENT TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULES IN THE CAR IN AN ATTEMPT TO FIX THE PROBLEM, BUT TO NO AVAIL. I HAVE NOTICED THAT SINCE I HAVE STOPPED FILLING THE GAS TANK COMPLETELY FULL THAT THE STALLING HAS STOPPED. *TR
IN THE 2006 DODGE CHARGER R/T THE CAR WILL COMPLETELY TURN OFF IF THE GAS IS FULL OR CLOSE TO FULL. THIS IS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE R/T MODEL. DODGE HAS KNOWN OF THIS ISSUE FOR YEARS AND ALSO THE DEALERSHIPS. AFTER READING UP ON THIS PROBLEM, I HAD THE GAS TANK REPLACED, AS IT (THE TANK) HAD ALL OF THE SIGNS OF A BAD "ROLL-OVER" VALVE. THIS VALVE IS MOLDED INTO THE GAS TANK AND IS NON-REPLACEABLE. ONCE THE TANK WAS REPLACED, THE PROBLEM HAS GONE AWAY AND HAVE NOT HAD AN ISSUE SINCE. *TR

THIS PROBLEM IS RELATED TO THE PURGE SOLENOID. THE EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM STORES FUEL VAPORS FROM THE TANK AND THEN BURNS THEM IN THE ENGINE, TO KEEP THE VAPORS FROM GOING INTO THE ATMOSPHERE. WHEN YOU FILL THE TANK WITH FUEL THE AIR AND VAPOR THAT THE FUEL DISPLACES HAS TO GO INTO THE EVAP SYSTEM. THERE IS A VALVE ON TOP OF THE TANK THAT ALLOWS THE VAPOR OUT, BUT IS SUPPOSED TO SHUT OFF WHEN LIQUID FUEL HITS IT AS THE TANK FILLS. WHAT HAPPENS IS THIS VALVE FAILS AND IT ALLOWS YOU TO PUSH LIQUID FUEL INTO THE EVAP SYSTEM WHEN YOU PUSH TOO MUCH FUEL INTO THE TANK. THIS LIQUID FUEL GOES INTO THE VAPOR CANISTER AND LINES. WHEN YOU START THE ENGINE A COUPLE MINUTES LATER THE PURGE SOLENOID WILL COME ON TO DO IT'S JOB AND BURN THESE VAPORS, BUT WITH THIS FAILED VALVE IT SUCKS UP LIQUID FUEL INSTEAD, SO THE ENGINE RUNS ROUGH AND CAN DIE AT IDLE. THE VEHICLE STALLS FOR THE NEXT 5 MILES OR SO WHENEVER YOU TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE GAS, I.E. TAKING A TURN OR SITTING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE VEHICLE BUCKS VIOLENTLY AS WELL. WHEN THE ENGINE STALLS IT CUTS ALL POWER TO THE VEHICLE CAUSING YOU TO LOSE POWER STEERING AND THE ABS. BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS VAPOR LOCKED IT WILL NOT RESTART IMMEDIATELY.
