AT LEAST THREE TIMES MY 5.7 LITER HEMI HAS STALLED WHILE DRIVING. IT HAS ALWAYS STALLED AT LOW SPEEDS (I.E. UNDER 35 MPH) AND SOMETIMES AS SLOW AS 15. EVERY TIME IS HAS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING FROM STOPLIGHT TO STOPLIGHT WITH A LIGHT THROTTLE APPLICATION. IT HAS OCCURRED AT LEAST ONCE AFTER FILLING UP. I ALSO DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS RELATED, BUT PROBABLY BETWEEN 6-10 TIMES NOW WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (50-70 MPH) THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD (I.E. TACH, SPEEDOMETER, ENGINE TEMP, AND FUEL GAGE) ALL DIE. WHAT HAPPENS IS THEY ALL SEEM TO LOSE POWER, ALL NEEDLES FALL TO 0, OR THEIR TURNED OFF POSITION, THEN ONCE THEY HIT THE STOPS THEY ALL POWER BACK UP AGAIN, SWING BACK TO WHERE THEY WERE, ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS COME ON, AND THEN EXTINGUISH AFTER A COUPLE OF SECONDS. THIS ENTIRE TIME THERE IS NOT CHANGE IN SPEED, OR THE ENGINE, WHEN I AM IN CRUISE CONTROL, THIS DOES NOT SEEM TO AFFECT THE CRUISE CONTROL. *TR
AFTER FUELING UP/TOPPING OFF TO THE FIRST SHUT-OFF ONLY, AFTER PULLING AWAY FROM THE GAS PUMP, THE CAR HESITATED, STALLED AND FAILED TO RESTART RIGHT AWAY. IT HAS BEEN INCREASING THIS BEHAVIOR FROM RARELY TO ALMOST EVERY TIME I FUEL UP - I AM NOW AT 171,*** MILES. LAST NIGHT I FUELED UP, DROVE ABOUT 300 YARDS AND PARKED FOR THE NIGHT. THIS MORNING THE CAR FAILED TO START. AFTER ABOUT 6 ATTEMPTS, I FLOORED THE ACCELERATOR WHILE CRANKING AND THE CAR STARTED. AFTER PULLING OUT OF THE PARKING LOT WHERE I WAS PARKED AND ONTO THE HIGHWAY, HE CAR SPUTTERED/HESITATED 4 TIMES (KIND OF LIKE A BUCKING BRONCO) ABOUT 70 YARDS DOWN THE ROAD, WITH TRAFFIC CATCHING UP TO ME AND THEN IT SETTLED BACK TO ITS NORMAL SELF. ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO, WHILE TRAVELING THROUGH TENNESSEE, I FUELED UP, PULLED INTO THE STREET AND APPROACHED A RED LIGHT AND I STOPPED AT WHICH TIME THE CAR DID ITS HESITATION AND STALLED. I TRIED TO START THE CAR, BUT IT WOULD NOT START. I HIT THE 4-WAY FLASHERS AND I SAT THERE FOR ABOUT 25 SECONDS BEFORE THE CAR WAS ABLE TO BE STARTED AGAIN. I DON'T USE CHEAP GAS, I DON'T GAS UP AT A STATION IF I SEE A TANKER TRUCK FILLING THE TANKS (OR PULLING OUT OF THE STATION) AND I STOP FILLING AFTER THE INITIAL SHUT-OFF OF THE PUMP. ON A SIDE NOTE, SINCE DAY ONE (SEP 2005), WHEN GASSING UP, I HAVE TO REST THE PUMP HANDLE ON THE FILLER DOOR, WHICH ENDS UP PUTTING THE PUMP HANDLE UPSIDE DOWN AT ABOUT THE 10 OR 11 O'CLOCK POSITION DEPENDING ON THE PADDING OF THE HANDLE. ANY OTHER POSITION WOULD CAUSE THE PUMP HANDLE TO CLICK OFF ALMOST IMMEDIATELY WHEN TRYING TO FILL THE TANK. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ON VARIOUS CHARGER FORUMS, I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS HAD THE ABOVE "PROBLEMS". I AM AFRAID ONE OF THESE DAYS THIS BEHAVIOR WILL LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT WITH SOMEBODY GETTING HURT OR POSSIBLY EVEN KILLED, EITHER IN A REAR-END COLLISION OR A T-BONE COLLISION. *TR
OVERHEATED AND BLEW THE TOP RADIATOR HOSE,FIXED IT WITH AN OEM HOSE FROM DEALERSHIP NEXT DAY AND I TOPPED OF THE FLUID AND " BURPED" IT AND GOT ALL THE BUBBLES OUT. SAME DAY IT WAS FIXED I WAS IN A DRIVE THRU LINE AT A FAST FOOD PLACE AND IT WAS STILL OVERHEATING EVEN WITH MY HEATER TURNED ALL THE WAY UP TO RELIEVE SOME HEAT STRESS FROM THE MOTOR SO I HAD TO KEEP SHUTTING OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTING IT TO MOVE UP IN THE DRIVE THRU LINE JUST SO THE GAUGE NEVER REACHED THE RED LINE ON THE TEMP GAUGE AND I FINALLY RECEIVED MY FOOD AND THEN IT DID NOT WANT TO START OR ANYTHING SO DUE TO THE FACT OF COMMON COURTESY OF THE OTHER CUSTOMERS IN LINE DID NOT WANT TO HOLD THEM UP I JUMPED OUT AND PUSHED MY CAR OUT OF THE WAY AND INTO A PARKING SPOT AND THAT'S WHEN THE INJURY HAPPENED BY PUSHING IT I INJURED MY BACK SEVERELY. AFTER IT WAS IN A PARKING SPOT I TRIED ONCE AGAIN TO START IT AND IT STARTED BUT WITH A LOUD KNOCK COMING FROM THE MOTOR, AND BLACK AND WHITE SMOKE FROM THE TAILPIPES. SO I HAD IT TOWED TO MY HOUSE AND HAD MY FRIEND WHOM IS A MECHANIC AT THE LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP COME OVER AND LOOK INTO IT FOR ME JUST TO FIND OUT A VALVE SEAT DROPPED AND DAMAGE THE INTERNALS ON MY MOTOR. THIS IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM NOW WITH DODGE WITH MANY COMPLAINTS AROUND THE WORLD SO WHY THE HECK ISN'T THIS PROBLEM BEING RECALLED???? JUST SO ANYONE WHO READS THIS KNOWS, MY CAR IS A 2006 DODGE CHARGER R/T 5.7L HEMI WITH ONLY 110,000 MILES ON IT AND DEALERSHIP MAINTAINED SO THIS KINDA STUFF WOULDN'T HAPPEN BUT WHAT DO YOU KNOW GOOD OL DODGE SCREWING THERE CUSTOMERS BY NOT FIXING THE PROBLEM. I WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY CAR STALLED AND HAD TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER IN AUGUST 2012. THIS AGAIN HAPPENED MAY 2013. THE LAST INCIDENT OCCURRED SEPTEMBER 21ST PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT. THE CAR STARTED BACK UP AFTER EACH OCCASION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE CHARGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP AND WHILE BEING TEST DRIVEN, THE MECHANIC FOUND A FAILURE WITH THE STEERING. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD A TELESCOPIC STEERING SYSTEM. AS A RESULT, WHENEVER IT WAS IN A FORWARD POSITION THE VEHICLE FAILED TO TURN SINCE IT WAS IN CONTACT WITH A METAL PIECE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 97,065.
I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE AND IT STARTED SMOKING I PULLED OVER . CALLED MECHANIC HAD IT TOWED TO THE SHOP WHERE HE LATER TOLD ME THE MOTOR WAS BLOWN . SECOND INCIDENT THERE'S A BEEPING SOUND AND ALL MY GAUGES KEEPING GOING CRAZY ON ME .THIRD INCIDENT THAT PINK PIECE INSIDE THE GEAR SHIFT ACTUAL WAS STUCK AND CAME LOSE SO IT WAS REMOVED AND THE CAR IS ABLE TO BE PUT INTO GEAR . *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE CHARGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES AFTER REFUELING THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD RESTART IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. NEARLY EVERY TIME I REFUEL THE VEHICLE IT STALLS 4-6 TIMES IN THE FIRST 5 MILES. THIS HAS LEFT ME IN TURNS WITHOUT POWER STEERING, ON HIGHWAY ON RAMPS WITHOUT POWER STEERING OR BRAKES, AND SITTING IN BUSY INTERSECTIONS ATTEMPTING TO RE-START THE CAR. IT IS WORSE IF I TURN LEFT AFTER GASSING UP - CAR WILL IMMEDIATELY DIE WHILE IN THE INTERSECTION. THIS HAS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 30 TIMES IN THE LAST 10 MONTHS. *TR
JUST AFTER I FILLED UP WITH GAS (TOPPED OFF THE TANK) I DROVE DON THE ROAD AND THE CAR STALLED AND TOOK 15-20 SECONDS TO RESTART.THIS HAPPEN EACH TIME I TOPPED OFF THE FUEL RANK. IF I ONLY FILL TO 3/4 FULL NO PROBLEM. *TR
AFTER FILLING UP WITH GAS WAS TURNING ONTO A MAIN ROAD WHEN CAR SUDDENLY STALLED. DODGE DEALER COULD NOT FIND PROBLEM. HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIME OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF MONTH AFTER FILLING GAS TANK. REPLACED FUEL PUMPS PER DEALER RECOMMENDATION. A COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN AFTER FILLING TANK. DID A SEARCH AND FOUND SAME PROBLEM WITH GAS TANK ON THIS SAME MODEL. IN MAY 2013 REPLACED GAS TANK. ON SEVERAL OF THESE INSTANCES OF CAR STALLING I WAS LEAVING GAS STATION AND TURNING INTO TRAFFIC WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED CAUSING NEAR ACCIDENTS. THIS IS GOING TO CAUSE A FATALITY IF IT HASN'T ALREADY. *TR
THE SHIFTER SELECTOR IS STUCK IN THE "PARK" POSITION. A SMALL PLASTIC PART BREAKS UNDERNEATH THE SHIFT SELECTOR CAUSING THE MALFUNCTION. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON CHRYSLER 300, DODGE MAGNUM, AND CHARGER. A RECALL WAS ISSUED ONLY ON SOME 2005-2007 MODELS. IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM FOR ALL OF THESE CARS YET WHY IS ONLY SOME VINS COVERED? THERE IS VARIOUS AFTERMARKET REPLACEMENTS MADE OF METAL AS THE ORIGINAL SHOULD HAVE BEEN SINCE IT IS A VITAL COMPONENT. THIS IS A FLAWED DESIGN MADE OF WEEK MATERIAL. THIS SHOULD BE REPAIRED FREE OF CHARGE, BUT DODGE DOESN'T WANT TO TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM. *TR
THE CAR WILL STALL WITHIN A MINUTE OR SO OF FILLING UP THE GAS TANK. THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 95% OF THE TIME I FILLED UP THE TANK. IF I FEEL THE STALL COMING ON I CAN THROW IT IN NEUTRAL AND REV THE ENGINE FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS AND IT WON'T STALL ANYMORE. I FIRST BEGAN TO NOTICE IT AT LEAST 8 MONTHS AGO. I STOPPED FILLING THE TANK ALL THE WAY JUST TO AVOID THIS BECAUSE IT CAUSED ME TO STALL WHILE GOING THRU AN INTERSECTION AND BACKING UP TRAFFIC. I WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO BUY A NEW GAS TANK TO RECTIFY THIS ISSUE. *TR
THE ENGINE STALLS WHILE IDLING OR DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, ESPECIALLY AROUND CORNERS. PROBLEM ONLY OCCURS WHEN GAS TANK IS FULL OR NEAR FULL. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS RESOLVED IMMEDIATELY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE CHARGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER REFUELING, THE VEHICLE WOULD BEGIN TO HESITATE BEFORE STALLING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE BUT THE FAILURE WAS RECURRING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHEN THE ENGINE WAS FIRST STARTED, THE ODOR OF GASOLINE WAS PRESENT INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE CHARGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SHIFTER COULD NOT BE ENGAGED IN ANY GEAR. THE CONTACT HAD HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL HOWEVER THE SHIFTER STILL WOULD NOT MOVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
RE:PE13-016 RE: DODGE/CHRYSLER X53 - 19 FUEL TANK VEHICLE BEGAN SHUTTING OFF ABOUT A MILE DOWN THE ROAD AFTER REFUELING. UPON RECEIVING "EXTENDED WARRANTY" LETTER FROM CHRYSLER - MAY 8, 2014, CALLED DEALER TO HAVE PART REPLACED. PART HAS BEEN ON "BACKORDER" FOR LAST 2 MONTHS. I KEEP GETTING TOLD "YOU ARE NEXT IN LINE TO RECEIVE PART" FROM THE DEALER AND THE DODGE CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER TOLL FREE LINE. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND FOR NO REASON OR FAULT OF YOURS, THE CAR BEGINS TO STALL OR CUT OFF COMPLETELY. MY CAR HAS CUT OFF WHILE MAKING A TURN ACROSS TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC - LUCKILY NO ONE WAS COMING AND I WAS ABLE TO COAST ACROSS THE LANES..."SAFELY". MY CAR HAS CUT OFF GOING DOWN THE ROAD AT 40-50 MILES AN HOUR. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. AND TRUTH BE KNOW, THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL AND HANDLED PROMPTLY BY CHRYSLER. I HAVE SEVERAL DOCUMENTED CALLS INTO CHRYSLER. NO ONE CAN TELL ME WHEN PART WILL BE ORDERED OR SENT TO DEALER OR STATUS OF SITUATION. PLEASE HELP CONSUMERS GET THIS PROBLEM ESCALATED. THANK YOU. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE CHARGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WOULD RATTLE WHEN DRIVING OVER ANY TYPE OF ROAD BUMP. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD BECOME VERY STIFF WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE TENSION STRUTS, LOWER BALL JOINTS AND TIE RODS WOULD NEED REPLACING. I TURNED MY IGNITION KEY TO START THE VEHICLE AND HEARD AN EXPLOSION IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. I OPENED MY TRUNK WITH THE KEY BECAUSE THE VEHICLE LOST ALL ELECTRICAL POWER. I DISCOVERED THAT THE BATTERY HAD EXPLODED AND SPRAYED BATTERY ACID IN THE TRUNK AREA. THE TRUNK WAS FILLED WITH WHITE SMOKE AND SMELLED LIKE CHEMICALS. MY PROPERTY INSIDE THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT ALSO HAD A STRONG CHEMICAL ODOR TO IT. AFTER LOOKING AT THE BATTERY, IT APPEARED TO HAVE EXPLODED FROM THE REAR AND THE MAIN THING THAT KEPT IT FROM SENDING ACID SOAKED DEBRIS WAS THE NYLON STRAP THAT HOLDS THE BATTERY IN PLACE. I AM WORRIED THAT THE ENTIRE INTERIOR OF MY VEHICLE IS NOW COATED WITH ACID FUMES/POWDER FROM THE EXPLOSION. I SPOKE WITH HUNTINGTON BEACH DODGE AND THEY SAID I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL COSTS OF REPAIRS BECAUSE THE BATTERY ONLY HAS A 12 MONTH/12K MILE WARRANTY. I UNDERSTAND THAT A BATTERY GOES DEAD, BUT I DO NOT UNDERSTAND A BATTERY EXPLODING! MY 2 CHILDREN WERE NOT IN THE BACK SEAT AT THE TIME OF THE EXPLOSION, BUT WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN THE INJURY TO MY KIDS IF THEY WERE THERE? BATTERY ACID IN THE FACE AND EYES, ACID SOAKED DEBRIS STRIKING THEM OR HEARING LOSS FROM THE EXPLOSION? I DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH DRIVING THE VEHICLE OR HAVING MY CHILDREN IN IT. MCPEEK DODGE IN ANAHEIM REPLACED THE BATTERY AND CLEANED THE TRUNK AT A COST OF $250.00 (20% DISCOUNT THEY SAID), BUT STATED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE REASON FOR THE INCIDENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE CHARGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE GEAR SHIFTER BECAME STUCK IN PARK. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER IN REGARD TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V583000 (POWER TRAIN) BUT THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 92,740. *TR
THE GEAR SHIFTER WAS IN PARK POSITION AND THERE IT STAYED WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT GEAR TO ANYTHING AND HAD TO TAKE THE CONSOLE AROUND THE LEVER APART TO SHIFT GEARS. AND THE BRAKES SQUEAK ALL THE TIME EVEN AFTER HAVING THEM REPLACED AND THE ROTORS REPLACED AS WELL AS THE STRUTS. CHRYSLER THEY SAY CAR IS NOT PART OF THE ONES THAT THEY WILL FIX THE SHIFTER ON. AM MAD ENOUGH OVER A 69 CENT PINK PLASTIC PART TO WANT TO STICK THIS CAR UP [XXX] IN CUSTOMER CARES REAR. I PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO PICK UP SOMETHING THAT HAD FALLEN INTO THE FLOOR AND PUT MY CAR IN PARK. THE WHEN I STARTED TO PUT THE CAR BACK IN DRIVE THE GEAR SHIFT WAS LOCKED AND WOULD NOT MOVE. THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT THIS WAS ABOUT TO HAPPEN. I WAS OUT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD ALONE AND MY CAR WOULDN'T GO INTO DRIVE OR EVEN LEAVE PARK. SINCE IT WAS SUNDAY AND DODGE DEALERS ARE CLOSED. ITS HOT OUTSIDE SO I HAD TO CALL SOMEONE THAT WORKS ON AUTOMOBILES. THEY CAME OUT AND FOUND THAT THE SAFETY NEUTRAL SWITCH WHICH IS MADE OF PLASTIC PARTS MAINLY WAS BROKEN/NO LONGER WORKING. I NEEDED TO MOVE MY CAR, SO HE TOOK ALL THESE PIECES OUT OF THE SHIFTER SO THAT I COULD DRIVE THE CAR HOME, AND TO THE DEALER TO BE FIXED. THE CAR WAS IN PARK I KNOW, BUT I COULDN'T BEEN IN A PLACE THAT I NEEDED TO RELY ON MY CAR MOVING FOR MY SAFETY OR MY LITTLE GIRLS SAFETY AND IT GIVE NO WARNING. THIS THING JUST LOCKED INTO PARK, AND YOU ARE STUCK WHERE EVER IT MAY BE, A SAFE PLACE OR UNSAFE PLACE. *TR
I HAVE 2006 DODGE CHARGER WITH A FAULTY GAS TANK. IT HAS BEEN INVESTIGATED AND ESTABLISHED BY CHRYSLER THAT THIS IS ACCURATE. UNFORTUNATELY THE REFUELING OF THE VEHICLE IS NOT THE ONLY PROBLEM. HERE IS ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. WHILE ACCELERATING INTO TRAFFIC THE VEHICLE ALSO SHUTS OFF. I HAVE EXPERIENCE THIS IN THE PAST FOR THE LAST THREE YEARS WITH FAILED REPAIRS. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND HAPPENS AFTER HALF THROTTLE OR BETTER. THIS IS APPARENTLY DO TO THE SENSOR OR FLOAT IN THE GAS TANK MALFUNCTIONING. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME, THEY GET A FUEL TANK IN EVERY 15 DAYS OR SO FOR REPAIRS INVOLVING THIS ISSUE. THE OWNERS ARE NOT AWARE OF THE DANGER THIS CAN CAUSE WHILE MERGING INTO TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE'S POWER AND FUEL JUST SHUTS OFF WITH NO WARNING TO OTHER DRIVERS. THE ENGINE STALLS AFTER I FILL THE FUEL TANK TO ITS FULL CAPACITY. THIS STALLING USUALLY OCCURS WITHIN A BLOCK OR SO AFTER LEAVING THE GAS STATION. I THEN HAVE TO SIT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, OR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND WAIT A FEW MINUTES BEFORE THE ENGINE WILL RE-START. LATELY, I HAVE NOT FILLED THE GAS TANK TO ITS FULL CAPACITY. I FEEL THIS IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE ROLLOVER VALVE ON THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK AND THE ONLY WAY TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE IS TO HAVE THE FUEL TANK REPLACED. *TR

THE CAR WAS PARKED OUTSIDE, AND WHEN I WENT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, IT WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. SINCE MY CAR IS A 2006 DODGE CHARGER WITH THE SAME PART THAT WAS RECALLED ON OVER 23,000 CHARGERS, CHRYSLER 300S AND MAGNUMS FROM THE YEARS 2005-2007, AND THAT THIS SPECIFIC PART IS THE ONE THAT FAILED ON THE VEHICLE, I BELIEVE THAT MY CAR AND VIN SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, AND THAT EXPENSES INCURRED FIXING THIS PART SHOULD BE REIMBURSED BY THE MANUFACTURER. *TR

2006 DODGE CHARGER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO DESIGN DEFECT ON GAS TANKS *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR A YEAR, IT STARTED STALLING WITHOUT WARNING. IT KEPT GETTING MORE AND MORE FREQUENT AS TIME WENT BY, BUT HE NEVER REALIZED WHAT WAS CAUSING THE STALLING, UNTIL ONE AFTERNOON HE LEFT THE GAS STATION, AND AS HE TURNED ONTO A ROADWAY, HE TRIED TO ACCELERATE, AND THE VEHICLE STALLED AND ANOTHER VEHICLE SWERVED TO AVOID HIM, BUT THAT VEHICLE CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THEN A TREE. A POLICE OFFICER INFORMED THE CONSUMER, HIS VEHICLE HAD A KNOWN DEFECT WITH THE DESIGN OF THE GAS TANK. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, THE CONSUMER READ WHERE THE VALVE WAS MOLDED IN THE GAS TANK, SO RAW FUEL FLOODED THE VALVE, STALLING THE ENGINE. *JB
WIFE WAS TRYING TO GO TO WORK, STARTED THE CAR NO PROBLEMS, AND THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. I DID A INTERNET SEARCH AND FOUND OUT IT WAS PROBABLY "THE PINK THINGY" PARK LOCKOUT, WHICH IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH CHRYSLER ESPECIALLY YEARS 2005-2007. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND INFORMED THEM IT WAS THE PINK THING. THE SERVICE REP LOOKED AT ME AND SAID "OH! YOU KNOW ABOUT THAT." INFORMED ME IT IS HAPPENING QUITE A BIT. NEEDLESS TO SAY I HAD TO PAY $112.00 TO GET IT FIXED WITH ANOTHER PART MADE OUT OF THE SAME CHEAP PLASTIC. IT IS INEXCUSABLE FOR THIS TO BE HAPPENING TO SO MANY PEOPLE, AND CHRYSLER NOT DOING ANYTHING TO HELP PEOPLE OUT. I AM NO LONGER ABLE TO FILL MY GAS TANK TO THE FULL LEVEL EVERY TIME. VERY INCONVIENT. *TR
THIS ISSUE RELATES TO PE13-016. MY 2006 DODGE CHARGER FUEL TANK CANNOT BE FILLED TO OVER 3/4 CAPACITY. WHEN IT IS FILLED BEYOND THIS LEVEL, THE ENGINE WILL STALL, PARTICULARLY AFTER MAKING A LH TURN. I HAVE BEEN ENDURING THIS PROBLEM FOR YEARS AND HAVE BECOME FAIRLY ADEPT AT RE-STARTING MY CAR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC CONDITIONS AND FORTUNATELY HAVE NOT BEEN INVOLVED IN ANY COLLISIONS AS A RESULT. I UNDERSTAND CHRYSLER NEGOTIATED A SETTLEMENT WITH NHTSA TO TREAT THIS AS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY CONDITION BEFORE A FULL BLOWN RECALL ORDER WAS ISSUED. HOWEVER, EVEN THOUGH CHRYSLER ACKNOWLEDGES THAT BEING A 2006 CHARGER WITH A 5.7L ENGINE MATCHES ALL THE CRITERIA TO BE INCLUDED IN THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, MY VEHICLE'S VIN IS NOT INCLUDED ON THE LIST OF EFFECTED VEHICLES AND REFUSES TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THERE IS OBVIOUS CULPABILITY AND CHRYSLER'S PART AND THEY APPEAR TO BE HIDING BEHIND AN ADMINISTRATIVE TECHNICALITY TO AVOID DOING WHAT THEY AGREED TO DO IN THEIR SETTLEMENT OF PE13-016 WITH NHTSA. *TR

NOTICE FUEL SMELL IN MY GARAGE. TOOK TO MECHANIC AND FOUND GAS TANK STRAP HAS PUNCTURED FUEL TANK ON PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE. UPON INSPECTION FOUND THAT GAS TANK STRAP IS MISSING FOAM INSULATION BETWEEN TANK AND STRAP. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT DRIVEN IN WINTER SO IT IS VERY CLEAR THAT THIS FOAM WAS NOT INSTALLED AT FACTORY. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER TO SEE IF THEY WILL REPAIR VEHICLE SINCE IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. LOOKING UP ON INTERNET THERE ARE PAGES OF GAS FUMES FROM DODGE CHARGERS. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD SINCE GAS FUMES ARE HIGHLY FLAMMABLE. *TR
THE CAR STALLS IN TRAFFIC AFTER IT IS FILLED WITH GAS. THIS HAPPEN REPEATEDLY AND WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE DODGE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE PURGE VALVE IN THE GAS TANK. THIS DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM, THE CAR STILL STALLS AFTER FILLING THE TANK WITH GAS AND CONTINUES TO STALL AND "STUTTER" UNTIL ABOUT 1-2 GALLONS ARE USED. THIS PROBLEM IS VERY MUCH A SAFETY HAZARD.
I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AT 60MPH ON THE EXPRESSWAY WHEN THE ENGINE QUIT WITH NO WARNING CAUSING THE CAR TO LOSE ALL POWER IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. MY CAR WAS NEARLY HIT SEVERAL TIMES BY OTHER CARS AS I TRIED TO CHANGE LANES IN ORDER TO REACH THE EMERGENCY LANE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE EXPRESSWAY. I RESTARTED THE CAR WITH NO PROBLEMS. THE CAR ENGINE HAS QUIT FOR NO REASON SEVERAL OTHER TIMES WITH NO WARNING IN THE LAST YEAR WHILE DRIVING AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. I WAS TRAVELING ALONG THE INTERSTATE AND NOTICED A HESITATION IN MY AUTOMOBILE DUE TO A SEIZED UP ENGINE. JUST BEFORE IT SEIZED UP I HEARD A KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE CAR WOULD NOT START. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A GARAGE. THE SERVICE PERSON DID AN INVESTIGATION AN INFORMED ME THAT THE ENGINE WAS DAMAGED AND WOULD NEED A COMPLETE OVERHAUL OR REPLACEMENT. I WAS TOLD BY THE MACHANIC THAT THE ENGINE IN THE VEHICLE IS NOTORIOUS FOR FAILURE DUE TO A MALFUCTIONING OIL PUMP OR DEFECTIVE CONNECTING ROD BEARING. I DID SOME RESEARCH AN FOUND THAT THERE IS A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH A FAILED CONNECTING ROD BEARING. ONE OF MY CO-WORKERS EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING WITH HIS AUTOMOBILE WHICH IS A CHRYSLER/DODGE PRODUCT. THIS ENGINE IS A SAFETY HAZARD IN THAT BY SEIZING UP WHILE IN MOTION IT COULD CAUSE THE DRIVER TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. *TT
I OWN A 2006 DODGE CHARGER R/T WITH THE 5.7 LITER HEMI ENGINE. I PURCHASED IT NEW IN JUNE OF 2006 WITH 5 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. AFTER 6 YEARS OF FILLING UP MY CAR BY LETTING THE GAS PUMP STOP AUTOMATICALLY WITH NO ISSUES; THE CAR BEGAN TO STALL RIGHT AFTER FILLING-UP WHEN TOPPING OFF THE TANK, STARTING AROUND MAY OF 2012. I CALLED AUTONATION DODGE IN ROSEVILLE, CALIFORNIA AND THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN WAS FAMILIAR WITH MY ISSUE. HE ASKED IF I HAD FILLED UP THE TANK BY TOPPING IT OFF. I TOLD HIM, AFFIRMATIVE. HE ADVISED ME TO NOT TOP OFF THE TANK AT ALL DURING FILL-UPS OR TO BUY A NEW FUEL TANK AT THE COST OF $2000-3000 WITH INSTALLATION. FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS, I'VE BEEN LUCKY TO NOT TOP OFF THE FUEL TANK, BUT IT HAS OCCURRED AT LEAST 4 TIMES WHEN I MADE THE MISTAKE OF TOPPING OFF THE GAS. THE LAST TIME THIS OCCURRED WAS YESTERDAY. AFTER BUYING GAS AND HAVING THE PUMP STOP AUTOMATICALLY, I DROVE INTO A MAJOR INTERSECTION AND STOPPED AT THE RED LIGHT. THE CAR TURNED OFF, AND IT TOOK ABOUT 3 TRIES OF RE-STARTING THE IGNITION IN PARK BEFORE THE CAR LUCKILY POWERED ON AGAIN. WHEN MY LIGHT TURNED GREEN, THE CAR WOULD JUMP AND LOSE POWER WHILE SHIFTING INTO SECOND AND THIRD GEARS. I WAS VERY FORTUNATE TO NOT HAVE ANY CARS BEHIND ME, BECAUSE THIS ISSUE OF THE CAR STALLING COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THIS STALLING HAZARD HAPPENED AGAIN YESTERDAY ON MY WAY HOME AND ALSO THIS MORNING. I FEEL CHRYSLER/FIAT SHOULD REPLACE ALL EFFECTED 2006 DODGE CHARGER R/TS WITH THIS ISSUE BY REPLACING THE TANK OR WHATEVER REPAIR IT WOULD TAKE TO FIX THIS SAFETY HAZARD. I FEEL THAT MOST OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE WON'T BE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE UNTIL IT HAPPENS TO THEM PERSONALLY. FIRST INSTANCE WAS ON SUNDAY, 6 MAY 2012. CAR STALLED AFTER TURNING ONTO CITY STREET WHILE ACCELERATING TO POSTED SPEED: 35 MPH. IF FUEL TANK IS FILLED TO CLICK ON GAS PUMP (FULL TANK) THIS CONTINUES TO HAPPEN, ESPECIALLY IN VERY HUMID WEATHER CONDITIONS/RAIN. CAR HAS ALSO STALLED ON HILLS AT STOP SIGNS OR TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND HAS STALLED AT ON-RAMPS TO LOCAL INTERSTATE HIGHWAY/CITY BYPASS, GIVEN THE ABOVE FULL FUEL TANK ISSUE. IF I DON'T FILL THE TANK ABOVE THE 7/8 MARK ON THE FUEL GAGE INDICATOR, THE CAR DOES NOT STALL. IF I EXCEED THE 7/8 MARK, THEN THE CAR DOES STALL, MULTIPLE TIMES IF VERY HUMID CONDITIONS EXIST AND WILL CONTINUE UNTIL THE FUEL TANK IS AT OR BELOW 7/8 CAPACITY. I'VE HAD APPROXIMATELY 22 STALLS SINCE SUNDAY 6 MAY 2012. IT'S INCONVENIENT TO HAVE TO GUESS WHEN TO STOP THE FUEL PUMP AT GAS STATIONS AND VERY FRIGHTENING TO STALL IN TRAFFIC, ESPECIALLY AT ON-RAMPS TO HIGHWAYS. *TR

MY PROBLEM WAS SOLVED BY THE NEW GAS TANK AND REPLACEMENT OF THE EVAPORATIVE CONTROL SYSTEM VAPOR TANK. I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 DODGE CHARGER (53K MILES ON THE ODOMETER) WITH THE 5.7 HEMI ENGINE AT APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH (POSTED HIGHWAY SPEED) WHEN I BEGAN TO HEAR A RATTLING SOUND. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER JUST BEFORE A SHARP CURVE IN THE ROAD, BUT AS I DID THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH CAME ON. I ATTEMPTED TO START THE CAR AGAIN AND THE KEY TURNED BUT THE ENGINE DID NOT RESPOND. HAD I NOT PULLED OVER AND BEGUN TO CUT MY SPEED WHEN I DID THE ENGINE WOULD HAVE SHUT DOWN AS I WAS NEGOTIATING A SHARP TURN IN THE ROAD UP AHEAD. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE ENGINE HAD BLOWN A VALVE AND THE ENTIRE ENGINE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE RESEARCHED DODGE CHARGER FORUMS AND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS AND ENGINES AT APPROXIMATELY 40K-60K MILEAGE. IN EACH POSTED INSTANCE IT STATES THAT THE ENGINES BROKE DOWN FROM VALVE FAILURE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM BECAUSE IT IS COMMON AND IT CAN LEAD TO ACCIDENTS IF THESE ENGINES FAIL AT HIGH SPEED AND CAUSE THE CARS ELECTRONICS TO SHUT DOWN. CHRYSLER SSHOULD. *TR
I PULLED OUT ON A MAJOR ROAD AND THE GAS PEDAL ASSEMBLY BROKE OFF OF THE MOUNTING BRACKET. I WAS IN A SPOT WHERE I COULDN'T PULL OVER SAFELY SO I HAD TO REACH DOWN AND TRY TO OPERATE THE THROTTLE BY HAND WHILE DRIVING. FIRST TIME IT STALED WAS WHEN I FILLED TANK UP AND GOT IMEDIATLY TO HIGHWAY CAR STALLED AS I TRYED TO MERG TO HIGHWAY SPEED .ALMOST GOT RUN OVER BY A TRACTOR TRAILER BEHIND ME.IT TOOK A WHILE TILL I DISCOVERED THAT A FIL UP WILL CAUSE CHARGER TO STALL HAPPENED MANY MORE TIMES AFTER I FOUND THAT IT WAS GAS FIL UP CAUSING THE STALLING THAT IS THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH CHARGER.I CAN ONLY GET SMALL AMOUNTS OF GAS AT A TIME.HELP ME... I HAVE A 2006 DODGE CHARGER R/T HEMI. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR 5 1/2 YEARS. IT ONLY HAS ABOUT 47,000, DON'T DRIVE IT MUCH, BUT IT HAS START GIVING ME PROBLEMS. TODAY, I ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED BY A SEMI TRUCK BECAUSE MY CAR SHUT OFF AT THE RED LIGHT AND THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND THE CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR.THIS WAS ON THE WAY BACK TO THE SHOP.. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP LAST MONTH ON MARCH 7, 2012, TO HAVE IT FIXED, THEY PUT IT ON THE DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE AND SUPPOSED TO HAD FOUND THE PROBLEM THEY SAID IT WAS WIRES AND OTHER THING AROUND THE TCM.THEY CLAIMED TO HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM BUT DIDN'T. OUT OF MY POCKET $241.00. THIS IS WHAT IT WAS AND IS STILL DOING: DRIVING ALONG AT ABOUT 40-45 MPH AND YOU HEAR A DING SOUND AND IT JERKS AND THE LIGHTEN BOLT LIGHT FLASHES IN THE CONTROL PANEL ON THE DASH THE RPM GAUGE WILL DROP AND IT ACTS AS IF IT'S GOING TO SHUT OFF. WITHIN A 20 MILE RADIUS IT DID THIS 8 TIMES. IT THEN SHUT OFF ON MY TWICE AT A RED LIGHT, THE ENGINE LIGHT, OIL AND THE LIGHTEN BOLT LIGHT CAME ON. AND ONCE APPROACHING THE RED LIGHT I PUNCHED THE GAS AND IT TOOK OFF. JUST AFTERNOON THE DEALERSHIP CALLED AND TOLD ME THAT IT WAS MY TCM WANTING TO CHARGE ME ANOTHER 600 + DOLLARS TO FIX IT.THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEMS THAT WAS SUPPOSE TO HAVE BEEN FIXED LAST MONTH AT THE DEALERSHIP AND I AM REALLY P.... THAT THEY ARE TURNING TO CHARGE ME AGAIN FOR SOMETHING THAT THEY HAD CLAIM TO HAVE ALREADY FIXED. I AM ON A FIXED INCOME WITH A FAMILY AND I DON'T HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY LAYING AROUND. I NOTICED A FEW MONTHS OR EVEN A YEAR AGO, I WAS LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID AND THEY CLAIMED THEY REPLACED AN O-RING OR SOME KIND OF PLUG. I SEE NOW THERE WAS A RECALL ON SOMETHING SIMILAR TO THIS AND I WAS CHARGED FOR IT. I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED RECALL NOTICES IN THE MAIL ABOUT MY VEHICLE AND NOW I AM READING THESE RECALLS AND THERE ARE 3 THAT I WAS NOT AWARE OF AND THAT WORRIES ME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE CHARGER. AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE COLUMN SHIFTER WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF THE PARK GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V583000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:COLUMN SHIFT). NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND THE FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 66,000.
I HAVE A 2006 DODGE CHARGER RT 5.7L WITH ABOUT 100K MILES ON IT. FOR THE PAST YEAR OR SO MY VEHICLE WILL ACT AS IF IT IS CUTTING OFF AND THEN WILL START BACK UP IMMEDIATELY. MY DASH LIGHTS FLASH AND I HEAR A CHIME EACH TIME THIS HAPPENS. ON OTHER OCCASIONS, MY VEHICLE WILL CUT OFF COMPLETELY WHILE IDLING AT A STOPLIGHT,INTERSECTION,STOP SIGN, ETC. MY VEHICLE WILL ALSO CUT OFF AND RIGHT BACK ON WHEN I TRY TO ACCELERATE AND OTHER TIMES IT WILL CUT OFF COMPLETELY. THIS IS REALLY SCARY WHEN IT CUTS OFF AS I TRY TO TURN AS A VEHICLE IS COMING, HOPING THE VEHICLE SEES ME AND DOESN'T T-BONE ME IN THE MIDDLE OF HE STREET AS I TRY TO GET THE CAR RUNNING AGAIN. I REALLY HOPE DODGE FINDS OUT WHAT IS CAUSING THIS AND AT LEAST INFORM THEIR CUSTOMERS HOW TO FIX IT OR BETTER YET, ISSUE A RECALL AND FIX A PROBLEM THAT THEY KNOW EXISTS. *TR
