TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE CHARGER. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT INTO PARK TO SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE BUT THE SHIFTER WOULD NOT RESPOND. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IN ORDER TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V460000 (POWER TRAIN: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) BUT WAS ADVISED NY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
AFTER FILLING THE FUEL TANK AND MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN, THE VEHICLE STUMBLES AND SHUTS OFF. WHILE IT RESTARTS AND SEEMS FINE AFTER RE-STARTING, SOMETIMES IT TAKES AS LONG AS 5 MINUTES BEFORE IT WILL RESTART. *TR
ENGINE STALLS INTERMITTENTLY DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND AT STOPLIGHTS. *TR
THE SHIFTER STUCK IN PARK AND WE HAD TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED. UPON ARE ARRIVAL THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THERE WERE 3 OTHER DODGE AUTO'S WERE THERE FOR THE SAME REASON. OUR NEIGHBOR HAS A CHRYSLER SEBRING WHICH HAD TO HAVE THE SAME REPAIR JUST LAST YEAR. AS THE CHRYSLER HAD A RECALL ON IT AND WE FEEL THAT THE DODGE SHOULD ALSO HAVE A RECALL. OUR CAR IS NOT 5 YEARS OLD AND ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD THIS TYPE OF REPAIR AT THIS TIME.
THE ENGINE STALLS AFTER I FILL THE FUEL TANK AND LEAVE THE GAS STATION . USUALLY THIS OCCURS WITHIN A BLOCK OR SO AFTER LEAVING THE GAS STATION AND IT CONTINUES FOR SEVERAL MILES OF DRIVING. I DO NOT 'TOP OFF' THE TANK, AND I HAVE MINDFUL LATELY TO NOT EVEN FILL UP ALL THE WAY IF POSSIBLE. THIS ISSUE HAS CAUSED SEVERAL 'NEAR ACCIDENTS' WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLS IN THE LANES OF TRAFFIC. IT CAUSES ME TO BE EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS AFTER FILLING UP. I DO NOT TRUST THAT I CAN ANY LONGER DRIVE WITH OTHER TRAFFIC AFTER FILLING UP, FORCING ME TO DRIVE ON SIDE ROADS/ACCESS ROADS FOR SEVERAL MINUTES TO MINIMIZE THE POSSIBILITY OF AN ACCIDENT, IN THE EVENT THE ENGINE STALLS. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE VENTILATION VALVE IN THE FUEL TANK AND THE ONLY WAY TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE IS TO HAVE THE FUEL TANK REPLACED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE CHARGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SWITCH GEARS FROM THE PARK POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT THE SHIFT LEVER CLIP BROKE AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE VIN DID NOT QUALIFY FOR RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V583000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:COLUMN SHIFT). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 110,000.
OWN 2 CHARGERS AND BOTH OF THEM HAD THE SAME SHIFTER PROBLEM. UNABLE TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK. SHIFTERS MUST BE REPLACED. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 42 YEARS AND NEVER HAD A SHIFTER PROBLEM. DODGE SHOULD REPAIR THESE PROBLEMS SINCE IT IS AA COMMON PROBLEM TO ALL 2006 CHARGERS. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 DODGE CHARGER WITH V8 HEMI ENGINE. I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH MY FRONT SUSPENSION SYSTEM I.E INNER/OUTER TIE RODS, BALL JOINTS AND WHEEL BEARINGS. MOST OF MY DRIVING IS DONE ON NEW JERSEY HIGHWAYS. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY TIRES TWICE BECAUSE OF THESE PROBLEMS. MY FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH DEFECTIVE SUSPENSION PARTS OCCURRED AT 40,000 MILES, SECOND AT 68,000 MI. AND LASTLY NOW AT 86,000 MI. COSTING ME APPROXIMATELY A TOTAL OF $4,000.00. EVERY MECHANIC THAT WORKED ON THIS VEHICLE CLAIMS THAT THE 2006 DODGE CHARGER IS NOTORIOUS FOR THESE ISSUES. THIS IS NOT NORMAL AND NEEDS TO BE SERIOUSLY LOOKED INTO. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY CHRYSLER/DODGE HAVE NOT TAKEN THIS MATTER SERIOUS, AND DID A RECALL OF THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM PARTS. I AM CURRENTLY DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AND STILL HAVE PROBLEMS WITH MY WHEELS WOBBLING WHILE BRAKING AND LOTS OF NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT WHEN I HIT BUMPS IN THE ROAD AND ESPECIALLY BRAKING WHILE TURNING AROUND CURVES. PLEASE HELP THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. I TOLD THE LAST MECHANIC TO SAVE ALL OLD PARTS. I NOW HAVE THEM IN MY POSSESSION. *TR

THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY A DEALER NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V583000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:COLUMN SHIFT). THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 87,500.
2006 CHARGER WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. CALLED AAA, THEY SAID THEY'VE HAD MANY SIMULAR CALLS ABOUT DODGE CHARGERS. TOW COMPANY DRIVER SAID HE'S HAD SEVERAL CALLS ABOUT THIS AND KNEW HOW TO TEMPORARLY GET THE CAR OUT OF PARK. DODGE DEALER SAID THAT I HAD TO GET THE WHOLE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY REPLACED AND IT WOULD COST BETWEEN $500 & $600. FOUND A REPAIRMAN THAT REPLACED ONLY THE BROKEN PART. IT WAS THE SHIFTER INTERLOCK THAT WAS MADE OF PLASTIC. THE AFTER-MARKET PART HE REPLACED WITH WAS MADE OF METAL. IF THE DEALER WOULD HAVE REPLACED THE WHOLE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY IT WOULD HAVE HAD THE SAME DEFECTIVE PLASTIC PART. WHY DOESN'T DODGE DO A RECALL ON THIS?
OUTER TIE ROD IS MAKING MY CAR SHACK WHILE DRIVING, PRESSING ON BRAKES, AND GOING OVER BUMPS. IT FEELS AS IF THE WHEEL IS GOING TO POP OFF. I HAVEN'T HAD THE VEHICLE FIXED YET. *TT
WE OWN A 2006 DODGE, CHARGER SXT. IT JUST PASSED 76,000 MILES WHEN WE STARTED SMELLING A STRONG ODOR OF GAS AND EXHAUST. ABOUT A WEEK LATER WE HEARD EXHAUST NOISE AND TOOK IT TO OUR MECHANIC. WHEN HE CHECKED IT HE FOUND THE RIGHT SIDE EXHAUST MANIFOLD WAS BROKEN INTO TWO PIECES. HE REPLACED THE MANIFOLD AND THE DEALERSHIP TOLD HIM THEY WERE SELLING 15 RIGHT (PASSENGER SIDE MANIFOLDS EVERY WEEK. AFTER HE REPLACED IT HE SAID HE STILL HEARD EXHAUST NOISE AND RECOMMENDED WE CONTACT CHRYSLER. CHRYSLER TOLD US TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. WE DID AND THE LEFT SIDE MANIFOLD WAS ALSO BROKEN. THE BILL FOR BOTH MANIFOLDS WAS $1035.20. CHRYSLER HAS AGREED TO PAY 50% OF THE DEALERS BILL ONLY OR $250.96. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A SERIOUS DEFECT WHEN NOT ONLY ONE, BUT BOTH CAST IRON MANIFOLDS FAIL WITHIN 6,000 MILES OF THE MANDATORY CALIFORNIA EPA WARRANTY PERIOD FOR MANIFOLDS (70,000). I AM SERIOUSLY CONCERNED BECAUSE CARBON MONOXIDE FUMES WERE ENTERING THE CAR WHEN TRAVELING 65MPH. WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF WE HAD BEEN STUCK IN LOS ANGELES TRAFFIC AT 5-10MPH. THIS DEFECT SHOULD BE IMMEDIATELY INVESTIGATED BEFORE SOMEONE DIES FROM CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING. *TR

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN IN NUMBER: 06V149000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V583000 (POWERTRAIN: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION: LEVER AND LINKAGE: COLUMN SHIFT), WERE RELATED TO THE FAILURE BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN EITHER RECALL. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE CHARGER. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 60 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED WITH AN ACCOMPANYING WARNING CHIME. THE LOCAL MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE FAILURE WAS AT THE TRANSMISSION GEAR SHIFTER LINKAGE SYSTEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT DENIED ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 74,874.
GEAR SHIFT STUCK IN "PARK". THERE WAS A RECALL FOR SOME CHARGERS FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT NOT MINE. OBVIOUSLY, THE SAME PART IS DEFECTIVE ON MINE AS THE PART IN THE VEHICLES INVOLVED IN THE RECALL.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE CHARGER. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK GEAR, THE GEAR SHIFTER FAILED TO FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHICH INDICATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS LOCATED IN THE TRANSMISSION GEAR SHIFT. THE DEALER REPLACED THE INTERNAL GEAR SHIFTER ASSEMBLY. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR BECAUSE THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V583000, POWER TRAIN: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION: LEVER AND LINKAGE: COLUMN SHIFT. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILES WERE 72,964. UPDATED 07/20/11*LJ THE DEALER FOUND THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY CAME APART INTERNALLY. UPDATED 02/03/12
THE COLUMN SHIFT WOULD NOT MOVE. THE ENGINE STARTED FINE, HOWEVER THE CAR WOULD NOT COME OUT OF PARK. I NOTED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2006 DODGE CHARGER FOR POWER TRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE COLUMN SHIFT, ALTHOUGH I HAVE A 2006 DODGE CHARGER WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS I WAS INFORMED BY DODGE THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL. I BELIEVE THAT MY VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BECAUSE IT HAS THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM AS DESCRIBED ABOVE AND MY VEHICLE IS THE SAME YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL AS THE RECALL. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TIE ROD ENDS WERE WORN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000.

2006 CHARGER WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. APPARENT INTERLOCK FAILURE, RESULTING IN BROKEN PLASTIC PIECE. BASED ON INTERNET SEARCH FOUND THAT CHRYSLER ISSUED A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION NOTIFICATION K39, WHICH ONLY COVERED CERTAIN VEHICLES. IT APPEARS TO BE A VERY BROAD DEFECT. *TR
CAR HAS REPEATEDLY STALLED AFTER FILLING UP THE CAR WITH GAS. CAR STALLS IN TRAFFIC WITH NO WARNING. TAKES ABOUT 10 MILES ON THE ODOMETER UNTIL IT CLEARS UP. THERE ARE MANY OTHERS WITH THIS PROBLEM. IT IS DOCUMENTED ON THE INTERNET FROM OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. *TR

THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V583000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:COLUMN SHIFT) DID NOT INCLUDE THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 101,000.
THE ROCKER BEARING ON THE TOP SIDE OF THE MOTOR WAS BROKEN (SET BACK AND NOT ROLLING. I HAD A HEATING PROBLEM WITH THE CAR AND HAD IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP . AT WHICH TIME THEY REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT AND TOLD ME THAT IF I HAD A PROBLEM THAT THEY WOULD DEAL WITH IT THEN. WELL NOW IS THEN AND I AM REPLACING THE MOTOR THAT I CHANGED THE OIL EVERY 3000-5000 MILES THEY EVEN SAID IT IS THE CLEANEST MOTOR THEY HAD EVER SEEN. SO THE MOBIL 1 0-40 DID NOT HELP. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR FOR AWHILE. FIRST THE BRAKES WENT OUT AT 13,000 MILES IN WHICH A SERVICE BULLETIN WAS OUT ON , BECAUSE THE WRONG SYSTEM WAS PUT ON AT THE FACTORY . SO I HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKE SYSTEM BECAUSE IT HAD 13,000 MILES ON IT AND OUT OF THE 12 MONTH 12,000 MILE WARRANTY. I HAD CALLED THEM NUMEROUS TIMES ABOUT THE CONCERN OF THE TEMP. OF THE ENGINE AND WAS TOLD THAT THESE CARS RUN A LITTLE HOTTER THAN OTHERS. IT TURNED OUT THAT AGAIN SOMETHING FROM THE FACTORY WHERE A SERVICE NOTICE PUT OUT SHORT OF A RECALL AND THEY ARE NOT REQUIRED TO DISCLOSE THOSE. I REALLY BELIEVE THAT NOTHING IS GOING TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS , BUT ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. THE MILEAGE ON THE CAR IS 109,000 MILES . CAR HAS NEVER BEEN DRIVEN HARD . *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE CHARGER. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK VIOLENTLY. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CONTACT HEARD A CLICKING NOISE UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, AND RESTARTED IT AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HENDRICK DODGE (81 MACKENAN DR, CARY NC 27511, (919) 439-5394) WHERE AN ALIGNMENT WAS COMPLETED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 300,000.
IN JULY 2011 I BROUGHT MY 2006 CHARGER SXT TO THE DEALER FOR A REAR HARNESS (THE ONE FROM THE FUSE BLOCK TO THE BRAIN BOX) REPLACEMENT DUE TO A GATOR AID INCIDENT (ANOTHER STORY) IT WAS REPLACED DUE TO THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GAUGES GOING TO ZERO WHILE DRIVING AND ALL THE DUMMIE LIGHTS COMING ON WITH ACCELERATION DIMINISHING. NOW THE PROBLEM IS BACK. I REALLY DON'T WANT IT TO HAPPEN WHILE I'M ON THE FREEWAY AND A SEMI COMING DOWN ON ME. WHILE RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE IT SEEMS THAT I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. IS DODGE GOING TO WAIT ON A FEW MAJOR ACCIDENTS TO HAPPEN BEFORE THIS ISSUE IS CLEARED OR IS BIG MONEY MORE IMPORTANT THAN SAVING SOMEBODY'S LIFE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL TANK WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY OFFERED TO COVER SEVENTY-FIVE PERCENT OF THE REPAIR COST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
APRIL 6TH 2011:AFTER LEAVING WORK & GETTING INTO MY 2006 DODGE CHARGER SXT,WHICH WAS PARKED IN THE EMPLOYEE PARKING LOT,I STARTED THE VEHICLE & STEPPED ON THE BRAKE TO ENGAGE THE SHIFTER,UNFORTUNATELY THE CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO THE DRIVE POSITION. AFTER MANY ATTEMPTS TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO DRIVE,EVEN DOING THE BYPASS METHOD AS STATED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL,IT STILL WOULD NOT ENGAGE,FINALLY I CALLED ROAD SIDE SERVICE & HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A NEARBY DODGE DEALERSHIP WHICH HAD INFORMED ME THAT THE SHIFTER HAD TO BE REPLACED. I WAS WORKING OUT OF STATE @ THE TIME,STAYING IN A MOTEL SO THIS ADDED EXPENSE REALLY STRETCHED MY BUDGET:$461.04 OUT OF POCKET!! *TR

AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED, THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE WAS PROTRUDING INWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING DIAGNOSIS OF THE FAILURE. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERR CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,163.

ON FEB. 17, 2011, I STARTED TO ACCELERATE ONTO I-495 IN MARYLAND. HITTING THE ACCELERATOR FOR A FAST TAKE OFF, THE ACCELERATOR BROKE OFF AND THE CAR WENT FROM 15 MPH TO 80 MPH IN 5 SEC. I IMMEDIATELY PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, GOT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND APPLIED THE BRAKES. IF THERE HAD BEEN A ANOTHER VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME, I PROBABLY WOULD NOT BE MAKING THIS POST RIGHT NOW. SO FAR, CHRYSLER OF DODGE HAS DONE NOTHING. I DID ORDER A REPLACEMENT ACCELERATOR ASSEMBLY AND MADE THE REPAIR. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A FATALITY, IF NOT FOR GOD AND MY OWN PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AS A DRIVER. DODGE SHOULD AT THE LEAST PAY FOR THE PARTS AND LABOR OF THIS REPAIR. *TR
THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED DURING THE LAST TWO FILL UPS. THE CARS ENGINE WILL REV UP AND THEN START TO RUN ROUGH AND THEN EVENTUALLY STALL. ONCE CAR IS RESTARTED IT SEEMS TO RUN FINE. THEN WILL DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND COMING TO A STOP THE ENGINE WILL REV UP AND CAR WILL JUMP FORWARD. IT MAY RUN ROUGH OR STALL YOU JUST NEVER KNOW. THIS ALL CONTINUES TO HAPPEN UNTIL THE GAS LEVEL IN THE TANK DROPS DOWN SOME AFTER DRIVING FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS OR IF THE GAS CAP IS LEFT LOOSE. WHAT IS HAPPENING IS THE EVAP VENT ON THE FUEL TANK DETERIORATES AND EVENTUALLY ALLOWS FUEL TO PASS THREW IT INTO THE PURGE SOLENOID AND THEN INTO THE INTAKE ON THE MOTOR. THIS EXTRA FUEL BEING DUMPED INTO THE MOTOR CAUSES IT TO REV UP AND JERK FORWARD WHEN THIS OCCURS. SO EVERY TIME THE EVAP PURGE SOLENOID COMES ON IT WILL SUCK GAS INTO THE MOTOR INSTEAD OF VAPORS. THIS EXTRA FUEL IS LIKE HITTING THE GAS PEDAL EACH TIME. LEAVING THE CAP LOOSE WON'T LET THE SYSTEM SEAL AND WORK AS DESIGNED, IT'S A CRUTCH TO AVOID THE PROBLEM. EACH TIME THIS HAS OCCURRED WITH MY CAR I REMOVED THE PURGE SOLENOID AND POURED GAS OUT OF IT. THERE SHOULD NEVER BE GAS IN THESE PURGE SOLENOIDS. THE ONLY FIX IS A FUEL TANK REPLACEMENT AT OVER $600.00 FOR THE TANK ALONE. ONE DAY I'M AFRAID I'LL RUN INTO SOMETHING OR SOMEBODY WHEN THIS ENGINE REVS UP AND JUMPS FORWARD. *KB
I FILLED A COMPLAINT BACK IN 2/02/12 NHTSA ID # 10446316. LOOK AT THAT COMPLAINT. DODGE HAS A PROBLEM WITH THERE FUEL TANKS THAT ALLOWS GAS INTO THE EVAP SYSTEM, CAUSING RAW FUEL TO BE SUCKED INTO THE MOTOR THROUGH THE EVAP PURGE SOLENOID AFTER A FILL UP. I DID RECEIVE A CALL FROM A THIRD PARTY ON BEHALF OF DODGE. BUT THERE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM COULD HAVE ENDED UP COSTING ME CLOSE TO A $1000.00 DOLLARS. I WAS NOT WILLING TO TAKE A CHANCE AND BE ON THE HOOK FOR THAT. I SIMPLY ASKED THAT IF THE GAS TANK WAS THE PROBLEM WHAT WOULD DODGE DO ABOUT IT, TO WHICH I WAS TOLD WE CANNOT SAY. THE WANTED MY COMMITMENT BUT WOULD OFFER NONE ON THERE END. I EVEN TALKED TO THE LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP AND FROM MY CONVERSATION WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT I REALLY FELT THAT THEY HAD NO IDEA HOW AN EVAP SYSTEM WORKS, THEY ONLY WANTED TO TRY PARTS ON IT NOT FIND THE ROOT CAUSE, AND I FELT LIKE THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN DONE AT MY EXPENSE. THEREFORE WE LEARNED TO LIVE WITH THIS PROBLEM. NO I SEE THAT THERE HAS BEEN A FINDING WHERE DODGE ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH SOME TANKS IN CHARGERS. MY COMPLAINT WAS SPECIFIC ABOUT WHAT WAS HAPPENING (FUEL GETTING INTO THE PURGE SOLENOID AFTER FILL UPS AND MOTOR STALLING BECAUSE OF IT). I FELT THAT I SHOULD HAVE BEEN CONTACTED ABOUT THIS AFTER THE FINDINGS SINCE MY COMPLAINT WAS DEAD ON ABOUT THIS ISSUE. AFTER FILLING UP THE GAS TANK, WITHIN MINUTES I WAS TURNING LEFT IN AN INTERSECTION WHEN THE ENGINE STOPPED AND THE STEERING BECAME VERY DIFFICULT AND AN ACCIDENT WAS BARELY AVOIDED. THIS WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS BECAUSE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. IN FACT I WAS ALMOST STRUCK BY TWO VEHICLES, ONE COMING AT ME AND THE OTHER BEHIND ME. I RESTARTED THE CAR, DROVE THROUGH THE INTERSECTION FOR ABOUT 5-10 SECONDS AND THE CAR STOPPED AGAIN, SAME STEERING DIFFICULTIES. STARTED THE CAR A THIRD TIME AND IT MOVED FORWARD WITH NO MORE STOPS. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 20 MORE TIME IN THE PAST 3 YEARS. ADDITIONALLY, WITHIN THE PAST 6 MONTHS, IT HAS BEEN VERY DIFFICULT TO PUT FUEL INTO THE TANK. IT WOULD TAKE ABOUT 20 MINUTES BECAUSE THE NOZZLE WOULD SHUT OFF. I COULD ONLY PUT IN VERY SMALL AMOUNTS EACH SQUEEZE OF THE HANDLE. I FIND THIS NOT ONLY ANNOYING BUT ALSO QUESTION THE DESIGN OF THE WHOLE FUEL RECEIVING AND STORAGE SYSTEM OF THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE ASKED MY LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE PROBLEMS AND WAS ADVISED THAT A NEW GAS TANK WOULD HAVE TO BE INSTALLED FOR APPROXIMATELY $1,200! A NEW GAS TANK? THAT WOULD CONFIRM IN MY MIND THAT THESE PROBLEMS ARE CAUSED ABSOLUTELY BY A DESIGN FLAW AND SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPAIRED ASAP BEFORE THERE ARE FATALITIES LINKED TO THIS FLAW.
I HAD A 2006 CHARGER (RECENTLY SOLD) WITH THE WELL DOCUMENTED STALLING ISSUES AFTER FILLING UP THE FUEL TANK. THE FIRST TIME THE CAR DIED I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION. I MANAGED TO GET THE CAR TO A NEARBY PARKING LOT AFTER 2 ADDITIONAL STALLS. I TOOK THE CAR TO A DODGE DEALER WHO COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM & SOLD ME A NEW GAS CAP. GAS CAP DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. FOR THE NEXT 18 MONTHS I COULD ONLY FILL THE TANK 3/4 FULL TO ENABLE ME TO USE MY CAR SAFELY. I REPLACED THE FUEL TANK AND OTHER COMPONENTS IN 2012 TO THE TUNE OF $1.8K. NOW CHRYSLER/DODGE TELLS ME THAT EVEN THOUGH MY CHARGER FITS ALL THE CRITERIA FOR THE LIFETIME WARRANTY, MY CAR IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE WARRANTY. I WILL NOT BE REIMBURSED NOW AND POSSIBLY NOT EVER, ALL BECAUSE OF A LETTER BEHIND THE 3 DIGIT SALES CODE. I JUST READ AN ARTICLE ON YAHOO STATING AN INVESTIGATION IN THE 2006 DODGE CHARGER ENGINE STALLING. FOR 2 YEARS I HAD THIS PROBLEM AND IT WAS INADVERTENT BUT DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING INTERSTATE SPEEDS. THE ENGINE WOULD STALL OUT, ALMOST LIKE YOU TURNED THE KEY OFF AND THEN BACK ON. IT ALMOST COST ME A WRECK ON THE INTERSTATE. IT WOULD ALSO DO IT AT IDLE SPEEDS BUT AT THAT RPM IT WOULD KILL THE ENGINE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AND BECAUSE THE PROBLEM WAS INTERMITTENT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE IT. WHEN IT FINALLY GOT WORSE, I WAS TOLD IT NEEDED NEW PLUGS. I CHANGED THEM AND IT DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. THEN THEY CHANGED ALL 8 COILS AND IT DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. FINALLY AS A LAST RESORT THEY REPLACED THE COMPUTER AND IT FIXED THE PROBLEM. THIS WHOLE PROCESS COST ME ABOUT $4,000. A MONTH AND A HALF LATER THE TRANSMISSION STARTED DRAGGING AND NOT SHIFTING PROPERLY, SO INSTEAD OF GOING THROUGH THE SAME PROCESS AGAIN I DECIDED TO GET RID OF THE CAR. *TR

WAS TRAVELING AT 55 MPH AND SLOWER WITH DEFROSTER ON AT 20 DEGREE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE. WINDSHIELD COMPLETELY FOGGED UP, HAD TO PULL OF TO SIDE OF ROAD TO CLEAR WINDSHIELD. WINDSHIELD ONLY CLEARED ABOUT 2/3RDS, AND WOULD NOR CLEAR ON SIDES OF WINDSHIELD. I COULD NOT SEE AROUND CORNERS WITHOUT OPENING WINDOWS. AFTER A WEEK OF FRUSTRATION AND HAZARDOUS DRIVING, I DISCOVERED FROM AN ONLINE COMPLAINT THAT THE RECIRCULATION COVER ON THE HEATER BLOWER WAS STUCK OPEN, AND WAS NOT LETTING FRESH AIR INTO THE VEHICLE. I FOUND THAT THE ARM THAT MOVES THE COVER HAD BROKEN, SO AFTER REMOVING MY GLOVE BOX, I MANUALLY CLOSED THIS COVER. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS, I FOUND THAT THIS IS A RATHER COMMON IN CHARGERS. I AND EVERYONE ON THE ROAD AROUND ME WERE VERY LUCKY THAT THIS DID NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I FEEL THAT DODGE SHOULD BE MAKING OWNERS AWARE OF THIS HAZARDOUS PROBLEM, AND SINCE IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM, THERE SHOULD BE A RE-CALL. FOR A VEHICLE OWNER TO FIX THIS $30 PART, THE REPAIR BILL IS ALMOST $900 DUE TO THE EXTENSIVE JOB OF REMOVING THE WHOLE DASHBOARD AND STEERING COLUMN, AND ALL ASSOCIATED PARTS. I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO FIND THE PROBLEM BEFORE I OR ANYONE ELSE GOT HURT, BUT OTHERS MAY NOT BE SO FORTUNATE.

AT THE SAME TIME, ALL THE GAUGES DROP TO ZERO, BOUNCE TO THEIR MAX AND THEN DROP TO A NULL STATE AGAIN. AFTER THIS BLINKING EVENT HAPPENS A FEW TIMES, ALL OF THE MONITORING SYSTEMS AND GAUGES RETURN TO A WORKING STATE. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, IT DOES NOT SEEM TO AFFECT THE DRIVEABILITY OF THE CAR (BRAKES, TRANS, ETC. ALL STILL FUNCTION). THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, IT CAUSED GREAT CONCERN FOR SAFETY, AS WELL AS SIGNIFICANT DISTRACTION WHILE UNDER WAY. THE ORIGINAL DATE AND MILEAGE ARE ESTIMATED.
