ON MY 2006 DODGE CHARGER R/T I HAD A LOW TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT. I TRIED TO REMOVE THE TIRES VALVE STEM COVER AND THE VALVE STEM WHICH IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR BROKE IN HALF WHICH DEFLATED MY TIRE COMPLETELY WITHIN 10 SECONDS. 3 OUT OF 4 VALVE STEMS DID THIS. AFTER CONTACTING MY LOCAL DEALER THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS IS A REALLY BIG PROBLEM NOT ONLY WITH THE CHARGER MODEL BUT ALL OF THE MODELS. IF THIS VALVE STEM BROKE OFF DURING DRIVING YOU WOULD HAVE NO WARNING AND AN IMMEDIATE AND COMPLETE LOSS OF TIRE PRESSURE COULD OCCUR. WHICH COULD LEAD TO A LOSS OF CONTROL, ESPECIALLY IF IT WAS IN THE FRONT DURING THE WINTER LIKE IT IS NOW. LUCKILY MINE BROKE WHILE IN THE GARAGE. *TR
CAR ENGINE STALLS AND DIE EVERY TIME I FILL UP THE FUEL TANK, DEALER IS TELLING ME SOMETHING BAD WITH THE ROLLOVER VALVE IN THE GAS TANK AND THEY ARE CHARGING ME $1600 FOR THE REPAIR. I FOUND ON THE INTERNET FORUMS A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. :-( *TR
2006 DODGE CHARGER -- FOR NO APPARENT REASON ALL DASHBOARD LIGHTS AND BRAKE LIGHTS FLICKER AND GO OUT EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE, AND SOME TIMES THE ENGINE STALLS. SOME TIMES THE ALARM GOES ON WITH BRAKE LIGHT ON/OFF PROBLEM. I TURNED BATTERY KILL SWITCH OFF AND ON, IT STARTED THE STALLED ENGINE. I PULLED AND PUSHED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LEVER, IT HELPED; BUT I WILL WATCH IT FOR RECURRANCE. THE ENGINE STALLING PROBLEM MAY BE A TICKING TIME BOMB. NHTSA, PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 DODGE CHARGER 3.5L.THE HEAD LIGHTS AND TAIL LIGHTS KEEP GOING OUT. I TURN THE SWITCH ON AND THE LIGHTS MAY COME ON AND THEN GO OFF. I TURN THE SWITCH TO CUT THE LIGHTS OFF AND COME ON AND THEN GO OFF. THIS IS JUST CRAZY. CAR ONLY HAS 70K MILES ON IT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE CHARGER. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE BEING EMITTION FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONTACT INSPECTED AND SAW FIRE SPARKS FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHTS AROUND THE WIRING; THE FIRE WAS WORKING ITS WAY UP TO THE MOTOR AND REST OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND DROVE HOME. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO SENT A REPRESENTATIVE TO INSPECT; THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE AND COULD OFFER NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
I HAVE A 2006 DODGE CHARGER (HEMI)THE CAR WONT' SHIFT OUT OF PARK. I CAN CRANK IT AND ALL BUT WHEN I GO TO MOVE IT INTO GEAR . NOTHING . IT'S STUCK. IF THIS HAPPENS REALLY OFTEN AND THE CHEAP PIECE OF PLASTIC IS AN ISSUE THIS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED AS A RECALL AND TO MAKE A BETTER STRONGER PROPER PART OTHER THAN A PLASTIC MILK TOP PIECE THAT CAN KEEP A 20,000 DOLLAR CAR FROM FUNCTIONING. PLEASE HELP. THIS HAS OCCURRED TWICE TO ME AT $370 THE FIRST TIME AND $150 THE SECOND TIME . THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND DARN SURE COSTLY FOR THE SAME PART. PARTS REPLACED WAS A SIMPLE PINK PLASTIC. WE HAVE A 2006 DODGE CHARGER, ALWAYS HAD ALL MAINTENANCE PERFORMED VIA DEALERSHIP ON SCHEDULED TIME. OUT OF THE BLUE, ENGINE LIGHT STARTS TO BLINK ON/OFF, CAR HESITATING. DEALERSHIP SAYS THE ENGINE HAS COMPLETELY FAILED, AND WE NEED A NEW ONE. DEALERSHIP STATES "SOMETHING" IN THE EXHAUST SYSTEM BROKE OFF AND ENTERED INTO THE ENGINE, CAUSING IT TO RUIN THE ENGINE, AND WE NEED A REPLACEMENT ENGINE. WE HAVE NEVER HAD ANY ISSUE WITH ENGINE UP TO THIS POINT, AND THE CAR WAS TAKEN INTO THE DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY WHEN ISSUES BEGAN. WE STILL OWE 4K ON THIS CAR, AND FEEL WE HAVE DONE EVERYTHING WITHIN DEALERSHIP/CAR REQUIREMENTS REGARDING HAVING ONLY THE DEALERSHIP WORK ON THIS VEHICLE FOR EVERY ENGINE NEED. NO WARNING, NO PRIOR ISSUE(S), NO REASON FOR THIS TO OCCUR OTHER THAN A FAILURE WITH THE MANUFACTURING. *TR
2006 DODGE CHARGER IS STUCK IN PARK. PINK EMERGENCY RELEASE DESCRIBED IN THE MANUEL DOES NOT WORK TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. WHILE RESEARCHING A POSSIBLE FIX I NOTICED THAT THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT EVEN ON NEWER CHARGERS. I BELIEVE THAT PAYING FOR A REPAIR THAT IS SO COMMON AND UNCONTROLLABLE IS SENSELESS.
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
THE VEHICLE OCCASIONALLY HESITATES, STUTTERS AND STALLS SHORTLY AFTER FUEL FILL-UPS. THERE ARE TIMES THIS OCCURS PULLING OUT FROM THE FUEL STATION, AND TIMES WHERE IT OCCURS A FEW MILES DOWN THE ROAD. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN THE CARS STALLS IN TRAFFIC (MERGING, TURNING, ETC.). *TR
PROBLEM OCCURRED AND CONTINUES TO OCCUR AFTER FILLING UP THE GAS TANK. FIRST INSTANCE WAS IN NOVEMBER 2010 AND MOST RECENTLY DECEMBER 2013. CAR WILL STALL NUMEROUS TIMES UNTIL SOME AMOUNT OF GAS IS BURNED OFF AFTER DRIVING. FIRST INSTANCE OCCURRED MAKING A TURN IN FRONT OF A RAILROAD TRACK. OTHER INSTANCES HAVE BEEN ON A FREEWAY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO PULL OVER. CAR CAN RESTART ON THE FIRST RE-ATTEMPT OR TAKE UP TO 4 ATTEMPTS. CAR WILL USUALLY STALL AGAIN SECONDS LATER. A WORKAROUND IS NOT TO FILL UP THE TANK ALL THE WAY (TO THE AUTO SHUTOFF OF THE GAS PUMP) BUT THIS DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK. THIS IS WITH A 2006 DODGE CHARGER WITH A 5.7 LITER HEMI. CHRYSLER DENIED THE ISSUE BACK IN 2010 ALTHOUGH THE PROBLEM WAS STARTING TO BE DOCUMENTED ON THE INTERNET AT THAT TIME. *TR
MY 2006 DODGE CHARGER RT WITH THE 5.7L ENGINE STALLS INTERMITTENTLY. THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK OR ON COLD/COOL MORNINGS. THIS HAS ONLY HAPPENED AT LOW SPEEDS BELOW 35 MPH. FORCING ME TO ROLL TO A STOP IN TRAFFIC, PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RE-START IT, WHICH IT DOES. HOWEVER, NOW AT HIGHER SPEEDS (65MPH) THE ENGINE WILL STUTTER MOMENTARILY. THE RPM GAGE WILL SHOW THE ENGINE AT NEAR ZERO AND THEN JUMP BACK TO NORMAL, SHUDDERING THE CAR. SEARCHING THE DODGE CHARGER WEBSITES I HAVE LEARNED THIS MAY BE RELATED TO A VENT ON THE TOP OF THE GAS TANK WHICH FAILS. THE FUEL FLOW SENSOR ON THE ENGINE DETECTS THIS AS OVER-PRESSURE AND TURNS THE ENGINE OFF FOR SAFETY. I HAVE SPOKE TO MY DEALER ABOUT THIS AND THEY STATED THEY ARE UNAWARE OF ANY ISSUES. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO REPRODUCE IT IN FRONT OF THEM, AS I SAID IT IS AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE. I FEAR THAT THE STALLING MAY FINALLY HAPPEN AT FREEWAY SPEEDS FORCING ME TO LOSE POWER WHEN I NEED IT MOST! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE CHARGER. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PARKING AREA SHE NOTICED THE VEHICLE WAS OVERHEATING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE MECHANIC STATED THE FAN MOTOR AND THE COOLING RELAY SYSTEM HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE CHARGER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD POPPING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE LIFTERS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TWO LOCAL REPAIR SHOPS WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE LIFTERS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO TOOK A COMPLAINT. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE DEALER HAD PUT THE WRONG TYPE OF OIL WHICH CAUSED THE PROBLEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,070 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28,320.
2006 DODGE CHARGER WAS DRIVING FINE YESTERDAY, PARKED THE CAR, NEXT MORNING WENT TO START CAR AND STARTED BUT WOULD NOT MOVE OUT OF PARK. TOWED CAR TO DEALER AND FOUND SHIFTER ASSEMBLY HAD A BROKEN PART - FOR A PART TO BREAK WHILE BEING PARKED AND AFTER DOING RESEARCH IT IS A COMMON COMPLAINT FOR THE DODGE CHARGER, WHAT HAPPENS IF THIS BREAKS WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING? I HAVE A 2006 DODGE R/T DAYTONA CHARGER. IT HAS 48,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS GIVEN ME VERY FEW PROBLEMS . I TRIED TO PUT INTO REVERSE TO BACK IT OUT OF THE GARAGE AND IT WOULD NOT COME OUT OF PARK. I TRIED VARIOUS THINGS AS DESCRIBED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL AND BY THE MECHANICS AT THE DEALERSHIP, BUT IT WOULD NOT BUDGE. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. (SHIFTER REPLACEMENT). EVERYONE I HAVE DELT WITH SEEMS TO KNOW OF THESE PROBLEMS AS IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON OCCURRENCE IN 2005 AND NEWER DODGE VEHICLES WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AND A FLOOR SHIFTER. I WONDER WHY THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL. COULD IT BE THAT THEY CHARGE OVER $300 TO PERFORM A 45 MINUTE JOB TO REPLACE A $60 PART? *TR
2006 CHARGER RT FRONT END I HAVE REPLACED INNER AND OUTER TIE ROD ENDS AND A WHEEL BEARING OVER 61K MILES. THE FRONT END WOBBLES BADLY AT HIGH SPEED. PARTS (TENSION STRUTS) ARE NATIONAL BACK ORDER ETC ETC. ANY DEALER AND/OR LOCAL SERVICE STATION WILL TELL YOU THAT THERE FRONT ENDS ARE VERY WEAK AND NOT DURABLE. THE COMPONENTS LAST FOR JUST ABOUT THE MIN WARRANT (3/36) PERIOD. *TR
THIS MORNING I BEGAN TO BACK OUT OF THE GARAGE WHEN THE VEHICLE INCREASED ACCELERATION ON ITS OWN, I WAS ABLE TO BRAKE BUT I COULD FEEL THE PRESSURE OF THE ACCELERATION AGAINST THE BRAKE. I STOPPED THE CAR THEN PROCEEDED TO BACK OUT AGAIN, AND IT DID THE SAME THING. I THEN SHIFTED IT INTO DRIVE AND BEGAN MOVING FORWARD. I LIVE OFF OF A DIRT ROAD SO I USUALLY LIKE TO DRIVE VERY SLOW, SOMETIMES COASTING (THE TERRAIN IS FLAT WITH NO DOWN OR UPGRADE)BUT I USUALLY HAVE TO TAP THE ACCELERATOR TO KEEP IT COASTING. THIS MORNING IT WANTED TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN GOING FORWARD, AND I HAD TO REPEATEDLY PUSH THE BRAKES. SO THIS HAPPENED MOVING FORWARD AND BACKWARD. I DON'T WANT TO DRIVE IT IN FEAR OF SEVERE ACCELERATION. ALSO, PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT,I HAVE RECENTLY FELT LIKE IT WAS LOSING ACCELERATION AS I COASTED, IT FEELS SLIGHTLY JERKY, BUT I AM DRIVING ON SOMEWHAT SOFT SAND WHEN THIS HAPPENS, ONLY, IT'S NEVER DONE THAT IN THE PAST. I HAVEN'T BEEN TOO WORRIED ABOUT THIS SINCE IT SEEMS FINE WHEN I AM DRIVING ABOVE 10 MPH. HAVE THERE BEEN ANY REPORTS OF THIS NATURE? *TR

IN THE LAST YEAR I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE FRONT TIE RODS REPLACED THREE TIME. AT CERTAIN SPEEDS MY VEHICLE WILL VIBRATE. GOING OVER SPEED BUMPS OR INTO EVEN THE SLIGHTEST POT HOLE THE VEHICLE WILL VIBRATE. WHEN SLOWING DOWN OR COMING TO A STOP THE FRONT END WILL VIBRATE. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ADVISED MY FRONT TIRES NEEDED TO BE CHANGED AND/OR ROTATED TO THE BACK DUE TO AN UNUSUAL WEARING ON THE TIRES. THE WEAR WAS ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE TIRES.THE GEAR SHIFTER WAS IN PARK POSITION AND THERE IT STAYED WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT GEAR TO ANYTHING AND HAD TO TAKE THE CONSOLE AROUND THE LEVER APART TO SHIFT GEARS. AND THE BRAKES SQUEAK ALL THE TIME EVEN AFTER HAVING THEM REPLACED AND THE ROTORS REPLACED AS WELL AS THE STRUTS. WHEN THE CAR IS SITTING IN IDLE, THE LIGHTS DIMS AS THOUGH THERE IS A SHORTAGE IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. I LET MY 17YR OLD DAUGHTER DRIVE MY CAR TO SCHOOL AND WHEN SHE GOT TO A RED LIGHT THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. THIS IS DANGEROUS, SO I DON'T LET HER DRIVE THE CAR ANYMORE. MY SEATBELT LIGHT STAYS ON & BEEPS WHEN THE SEATBELT IS CONNECTED. THESE ARE ALL SAFETY ISSUES & CHRYSLER SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. THESE ISSUES NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. *TR

VEHICLE SHIFTER STUCK IN PARK. DRIVER STRANDED ON RURAL SECONDARY ROAD AT NIGHT. PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED ONCE TO ME. UPON RESEARCHING THE MATTER FURTHER, THIS PROBLEM IS THE MOST COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS AND OTHER MODELS WITH THE SAME SHIFTER AND HAS OCCURRED THOUSANDS OF TIMES. VEHICLE TOWED TO NEAREST DEALER AND REPAIRED FOR $312.00. HAVE POSSESSION OF OLD PARTS. *TR
NO PROBLEMS UP TO THE POINT OF FAILURE. I HAVE 42,000 MILES ON DODGE CHARGER. WHEN I GOT IN CAR TWO DAYS AGO, THE GEAR WOULD NOT COME OUT OF PARK. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER, I DIDN'T HAVE TO FINISH DESCRIBING THE PROBLEM, SHE TOLD ME THAT THS GEAR SHIFTER HAD SEIZED AND WHAT THE PRICE WAS TO FIX IT. IT WAS OBVIOUSLY A COMMON PROBLEM. WHEN I GOOGLED THE PROBLEM, THERE WERE SO MANY HITS, I KNEW IT HAD TO BE A RECALL ITEM BUT IT IS NOT. ALSO, THE TOW SERVICE SAID HE WAS CERTAIN THERE WAS A RECALL BASED ON THE NUMBER OF CHARGERS HE PICKS UP WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO FIND A RECALL FOR THIS ITEM BUT BASED ON THE NUMBER OF FAILURES, IT APPEARS THERE SHOULD BE. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE GEAR SHIFTER. *TR
MY 2006 DODGE CHARGER R/T EXPERIENCED AN OVERHEATING ENGINE. AFTER MY MECHANIC PERFORMED MANY TESTS, HE FOUND OUT THE A/C FAN HAD NUMEROUS DEFECTS. THE A/C FAN BROKE APART, CAUSING THE ENGINE COOLING FAN TO ALSO FAIL - RESULTING MY VEHICLE OVERHEATING. THIS FAULTY A/C FAN IS APPARENTLY A KNOWN ISSUE BUT NOT IMPORTANT ENOUGH FOR A RECALL. THANKFULLY, I WAS IN TOWN AND NOT ON THE ROAD BECAUSE MY ENGINE TEMP SPIKED TO RED WHEN THE FANS FAILED. MY MECHANIC SUGGESTS I REPLACE THE FAN PERIODICALLY, TO KEEP FROM HAVING IT CONTINUE TO FAIL AND DAMAGE THE ENTIRE COOLING SYSTEM. *TR

EVEN WITH TAKING CARE TO NOT FILL THE TANK ALL THE WAY, GOING UP CERTAIN HILLS SEEM TO CAUSE THE STALL AS WELL. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, JUST POWER CUTS OFF. ONE SINGLE CHIME FROM THE CAR AS THE OIL LIGHT TURNS ON. YOU CAN RESTART IT BUT OBVIOUSLY THIS IS BAD WHEN IT HAPPENS IN TRAFFIC. SEEMS TO STALL MOST AT STOPLIGHTS AND OTHER IDLE CONDITIONS BUT CAN ALSO STALL IN LOW SPEED SCENARIOS. NEVER GOT FAST ENOUGH TO TELL IF IT WOULD HAPPEN THERE TOO. ACCORDING TO BOTH INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND DEALER, THIS IS A VALVE INSIDE THE FUEL TANK WHICH WOULD REQUIRE AN EXPENSIVE FUEL TANK REPLACEMENT TO FIX - THE MECHANIC SAID THEY HAD SEEN A LOT OF THEM, BUT THERE WAS NO RECALL SO IT WOULD BE AT MY EXPENSE TO FIX. *TR
APPROXIMATELY AROUND MAY 2010 THE VEHICLE BEGAN RANDOMLY STALLING. WHEN IT FIRST BEGAN IT WAS VERY INFREQUENT, ABOUT ONCE EVERY 25 DAYS, BUT IT PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE AND WORSE. IT IS NOW AT THE POINT WHERE IT WILL STALL EVERY 5 TO 15 MINUTES. THE VEHICLE STALLS WHEN SLOWING/APPROACHING A STOP OR STOPPED OR WHEN DOING LOW SPEED MANEUVERING. IT WILL OCCASIONALLY STALL WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOPPED POSITION AS WELL. THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON WHEN IT STALLS. THE VEHICLE WILL GENERALLY RESTART WITHOUT MUCH PROBLEM. THE SYMPTOMS ARE IDENTICAL TO THE SYMPTOMS DESCIBED INVOLVING THE 2005 DODGE DURANGO (NHTSA DEFECT INVESTIGATION #EA05018 AND INVESTIGATION #PE05027).

THE VEHICLE DESCRIBED IN THIS FORM HAS HAD THE RIGHT TIE ROD ENDS REPLACED TWICE WITHIN A YEAR BY A CERTIFIED DODGE DEALERSHIP USING MOPAR PARTS. 4/15/2010 THE RIGHT TIE ROD END WAS REPLACED WITH TIE ROD END PART NUMBER 52013468-AC AND HEX NUT PART NUMBER 6505623-AA WITH ONLY 29,458 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. 12/16/2010 THE RIGHT TIE ROD END WAS REPLACED WITH TIE ROD END PART NUMBER 52013468-AD AND HEX NUT PART NUMBER 6505623-AA WITH ONLY 38,954 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE DEFECTIVE RIGHT TIE ROD ENDS WERE FOUND DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE PERFORMED PRIOR TO A FRONT END ALIGNMENT.

THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS ADVISED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. A ENGINEER SENT BY THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE DEALER TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER, SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES, DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND TRANSMISSION SENSOR. AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED, THE FAILURE CONTINUED . THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 52,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 54,567.
THE VEHICLE STALLS AFTER FILLING UP THE FUEL TANK, THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES LEAVING ME STRANDED IN TRAFFIC UNTIL I COULD GET THE CAR TO START AGAIN. THEY ARE CURRENTLY GETTING REPLACEMENT PARTS TO CORRECT THE DEFECT AT THE RATE OF ONE EVERY 3 WEEKS. AT 18,500 WE HAD TO REPLACE THE LEFT FRONT OUTER TIE ROD END. NOW AT 33,000 WE ARE BEING TOLD THE SAME THING. I HAVE ON LINE AND SEE THAT THERE ARE QUITE A FEW OTHERS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND WOULD LIKE SOMETHING DONE AS FAR AS A REVIEW OR SOMETHING. ONE GENTLEMAN WAS GOING 55 MPH WHEN HIS BROKE AND THEY CRASHED. THE PROBLEM WITH MY CAR USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN I AM ENTERING AN EXPRESS-WAY FOR EXAMPLE OR PASSING ANOTHER CAR, AND CONSEQUENTLY HAVING TO ACCELERATE RAPIDLY, BUT THEN IF I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS, SAY, TO SLOW DOWN OR STEP ON THE BREAKS, THE CAR WILL STALL, AND THIS IS EVERY TIME. I AM NOT TALKING HERE OF A SUITUATION OF "RED-LINING", JUST EVERY-DAY NORMAL DRIVING. IF I AM ACCELERATING, SAY IN THE 3000 RPM RANGE, AND THEN TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS FOR WHATEVER REASON, THE CAR WILL JERK AND BASICALLY THE TRANSMISSION WILL DISENGAGE FROM THE ENGINE SPEED. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, I GET NO RESPONSE FROM THE ACCELERATOR. THE ENGINE WILL STILL BE RUNNING AND EVERY THING ELSE WILL BE OK, EXCEPT ACCELERATING. USUALLY, WHEN I GET NO RESPONSE FROM THE ACCELERATOR, I LET THE CAR COAST UNTIL THE SPEED IS SOMEWHERE ABOUT 20 MPH AND THE TRANSMISSION WILL RE-ENGAGE AND I CAN PROCEED. THE PROBLEM I AM DESCRIBING HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW. I HAVE TALKED WITH THE SERVICE REP AT A LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP AND HE OF CAUSE DOWN-PLAYS THE PROBLEM, BUT ITS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE ANOTHER CAR WILL SLAMS INTO MY VEHICLE, BECAUSE MY CAR STALLS ON THE HIGHWAY EXPECIALLY A PORTION OF THE ROAD THAT MAY NOT HAVE A PULL-OFF SHOLDER. WHEN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT OPENED THE TRUNK SPARKS FROM THE BATTERY WAS BEGINNING TO START A FIRE. ONE GENTLEMAN FROM THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SAID HE WOULD HAVE TO CUT THE BATTERY CABLE BECAUSE IT WAS ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS IN THE BATTERY OR ELSE THE CAR WOULD EXPLODE BECAUSE IT WAS TO CLOSE TO GAS PUMP. HE TOLD ME I WAS VERY LUCKY BECAUSE IF THE BLAST WAS ANY STRONGER IT COULD HAVE BLOWN UP THE CAR COMPLETELY IF THE FIRE SPARKS AND GAS COLLIDED. FROM THE BLAST MY NECK JERKED VERY HARD AND I AM EXPERIENCING DIZZY NESS FROM THE EXPLOSION AND BATTERY ACID FUMES AND MINOR BACK PAINS. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT MY LEGAL RIGHTS OR AND OPTION TO GET THIS ISSUE RESOLVED.
