THIS WAS A RENTAL VEHICLE WHICH CAUGHT ON FIRE DUE TO THE OIL LEVEL BEING 2.75 INCHES OVER THE FILL LINE, IT CAUSED OIL TO LEAK ONTO THE EXHAUST CROSS OVER PIPE, VEHICLE IS BEING EXAMINED, CLAIM 30-F037-271. *SLC
THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE DUE TO AN OIL LEAK ONTO THE EXHAUST CROSS-OVER PIPE, HOWEVER THE FIRST SET OF EXPERTS SUGGEST AN ELECTRICAL FIRE, AND NOW A SECOND SET OF EXPERTS ARE EXAMINING THE VEHICLE. CLAIM# 30-F037-271.*YH

2000 DODGE DURANGO RIGHT FRONT UPPER BALL JOINT FAILURE ONCE IN JULY 2002 2ND TIME JUNE 2003. *AK
WHEN THE CARGO AREA HAS ITEMS IN IT, AND WHILE DRIVING AND COMING TO A SUDDEN STOP, THIRD REAR SEATBACK MOVES BACK AND FORTH IN WHICH A CHILD MAY SIT ON THESE THIRD SEAT, AND MAY BE CAUGHT IN BETWEEN THE SEAT AND THE SEAT BACK. THIS COULD CAUSE INJURIES TO THE CHILD. COMMON PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
I PURCHASED A USED 2000 DODGE DURANGO AT LEE AUTOMALL, SACO, MAINE, ON 03-06-03. I WAS INFORMED A 150 POINT CHECK HAD BEEN PERFORMED AND THE BRAKES WERE NEW ON USED VEHICLES ON THEIR LOT. MY FIRST MAINTENANCE/OIL CHANGE WAS 04/03 AT LEE AUTOMALL, AUBURN, ME. I PROVIDED A CONCERN THAT THE FRONT BRAKES HAD BEEN SCWELL'G AT EACH SLOW DOWN OR STOP AND THAT BRAKE DUST WAS ACCUMULAT'G ON THE TIRE RIMS. THE BRAKES WERE CHECKED AND I WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WERE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND THAT THE SCWELL'G SOUND I WAS HEARING IS NORMAL PERFORMANCE DUE TO A NEW KIND OF BRAKE PADS THAT USED CAR DEALERSHIPS INSTALL ON USED VEHICLES. 2 DAYS AFTER THE FRONT BRAKES BEGAN TO SCWELL AGAIN AND BRAKE DUST WAS APPEAR'G ON THE TIRE RIMS. 2 WKS AFTER SVC/MAINTENANCE I NOTICED THAT EACH TIME I DROVE ACROSS A BUMP OR CEMENT BRIDGE THE DURANGO WOULD JOLT FROM ONE SIDE TO THE OTHER. WHEREBY, I HAD A DIFFICULT TIME CONTROL'G THE STEER'G. I BROUGHT THE DURANGO IN FOR SVC/MAINTENANCE ON 07/09/03 TO LEE AUTOMALL IN AUBURN, ME FOR F/U CARE. I EXPLAINED TO THE SERVICE REP THAT THE FRONT BRAKES CONT'D TO SCWELL AND THAT THE SUSPENSION WAS NOT PERFORM'G WELL. I EXPRESSED THAT IT WAS DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE STEER'G EACH INSTANCE THAT I DROVE OVER A BUMP OR CEMENT BRIDGE. I PHONED THE SERVICE REP ON 07/10/03 TO RECEIVE A STATUS ON THE VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD THAT ALL 4 SHOCKS (NO GOOD), 2 TIRES (WORN-NO TREAD), AND A SERPETINE BELT (CRACKED) HAD TO BE REPLACED. I OWNED THE DURANGO FOR 3 MONTHS AND I'M BEING TOLD THAT ALL 4 SHOCKS HAVE TO BE REPLACED. I PICKED THE DURANGO UP ON 07/12/03 AND ALL WAS WELL UNTIL 07/13/03. THE SHOCKS WERE REPLACED, TWO NEW TIRES, AND THE BRAKES--I WAS TOLD THAT THE BRAKES ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, A GREAT AMOUNT OF PADD'G REMAINED AND THAT IT IS JUST A CHARACTER FLAW. AS OF 07/15/03 THE FRONT BRAKES CONTINUE TO SCWELL, BRAKE DUST COLLECTS ON THE RIMS AND I CONTINUE TO HAVE A DIFFICULT TIME HANDL'G THE STEER'G WHEN I DRIVE OVER A BUMP OR A CEMENT BRIDGE.*AK
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 30MPH ON HIGHWAY AND WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION. UPON IMPACT, BOTH AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. *AK ONE PERSON WAS INJURED IN ACCIDENT, CONSUMER HAS EXTENDED WARRANTY, HOWEVER COULD NOT FIND ANYONE TO CHECK OUT AIRBAGS. *SLC
CONSUMER WAS INSIDE OF A PARKING LOT AND SMELLED A STRANGE ODOR COMING FROM REAR OF VEHICLE. AT THIS TIME SHE THOUGHT IT WAS ANOTHER VEHICLE . 1) REPLACED RACK & PINION @ 41K MILES 2) PASSENGER WINDOW HAS BEEN REPAIRED 4 TIMES AT DEALER AND IS WORKING MORE POORLY THAN EVER BEFORE 3) TWO BATTERIES REPLACED IN FIRST 2 YEARS-I'M ON MY THIRD NOW 4) SUV TOWED DUE TO AIR BAG LIGHT. *JB
A/C INTERMITTENTLY NOT COOLING - ONLY KEEPING CAB AT 85 DEGREES WHEN 90-95 OUTSIDE. *AK
PROBLEMS CONTROLLING STEERING, WHEN HITTING VERY SMALL BUMPS ON THE HIGHWAY. CAR TENDS TO JUMP AND SKIP HARD TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT, CAUSING THE DRIVER TO BE FORCED TO COMPENSATE HARD ON THE STEERING WHEEL TO KEEP THE BACK END OF THE CAR FROM FISHTAILING. PROBLEM KEEPS KNOCKING CAR OUT OF ALIGNMENT & HAS NOW CAUSED DAMAGE TO BOTH FRONT TIRES. HAVE BEEN ADVISED BY INDEPENDANT MECHANICS, THAT THE WRONG ROAD CONDITIONS (RAIN, SNOW ETC...) COULD VERY LIKELY CREATE A FATAL OUTCOME IF THIS PROBLEM IS NOT CORRECTED.*AK
IMPACT TO FRONT OF VEHICLE CAUSED THE CRUISE CONTROL SERVO TO PULL THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE FASTENER OUT OF ITS BRACKET AFTER THE RETAINING TABS BROKE OFF. THIS CAUSED THE ENGINE TO RACE OUT OF CONTROL, WELL OVER 3,000RPM. THE VEHICLE EVENTUALLY STOPPED BY CRASHING INTO A WALL!! I HAVE THE REPORT FROM THE INSURANCE INVESTIGATOR TO SUBSTANTIATE THE CAUSE, I FEEL THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE VEHICLE AND COULD POSSIBLY HAPPEN AGAIN IF A SIMILAR IMPACT TAKES PLACE. THE OCCUPANTS MAY NOT BE AS FORTUNATE AS MY HUSBAND AND I, WE WALKED AWAY, OTHERS MAY NOT!

CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING 75MPH, ALMOST HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE ON THE SIDE OF BRIDGE. VEHICLE FELT LIKE SOMEONE WAS PULLING IT LEFT TO RIGHT. PROBLEM WAS INTERMITTENT, BUT HAPPENED ALOT. MANUFACTURER DIDN'T SEE IT AS A PROBLEM.*AK

I WAS ON A STOP LIGHT AT 8AM AND THE EXHAUST PIPE WAS BLOWING OUT WHITE SMOKE AND THE ENGINE WAS SHAKING AND THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT WAS ON. BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AND LATE THEY CALLED AND SAID IT WAS THE FUEL INJECTOR. THE NEXT DAY THEY CALLED AGAIN AND SAID ITS THE MODULE NOW. APRIL 6 THEY SAID THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE, NOT TILL THE 19TH, IT WAS BACK ORDERED. I WENT THERE ON THE 20TH AND THE PART WAS STILL NOT AVAILABLE. IT HAS BEEN 3 WEEKS TODAY AND THERE IS STILL NO NEWS YET. WHAT ELSE COULD I DO. CAN I JUST RETURN THE TRUCK TO THEM? WE HAD ALREADY PAID OFF THE TRUCK , BECAUSE WE TOOK A LOAN FROM THE HOUSE . CHILD CRAWLED OUT OF CAR SEAT AND PLACED TRANSMISSION INTO DRIVE, CAR TOOK OFF, ABLE TO CHASE IT DOWN AND STOP VEHICLE. AT A BUS STOP WHERE MANY KIDS WERE AROUND AND COULD HAVE BEEN HIT IF DRIVER WAS NOT RIGHT NEXT TO VEHICLE. *AK
THE VEHICLE IS HAVING A BEARING FAILURE IN THE DIFFERENTIAL WHICH CAN CAUSE THE UNIT TO SEIZE AND I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER I PURCHASED IT FROM 4 TIMES AND EACH TIME I GET A DIFFERENT STORY ON WHAT THEY FEEL OR THINK THE PROBLEM IS
VEHICLE HAS SEVERE WHINING NOISE FROM REAR DIFFRENTIAL.ALSO HAS GRINDING/CLICKING NOISE TO DATE, REAR DIFFERENTIAL RING AND PINION HAS BEEN REPLACED (NOT FIXED); COMPLETE REAR END ASSEMBLY INSTALLED 05/01/00 (NOT FIXED), DEALER CONTACTED ME AND TOLD ME THEY WOULD "REBUILD THE NEW ASSEMBLY TO TRY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, AND WOULD NOT GIVE ME THE VEHICLE BACK UNTIL IT HAS BEEN CORRECTED." THIS IS 3 ATTEMPTS AT THE SAME PROBLEM, I.E., NEW GEAR SET; NEW REAR END ASSEMBLY; CURRENTLY REBUILDING THE NEW REAR END ASSEMBLY (WITHOUT EVER HAVING RETURNED VEHICLE TO ME WITH NEW REAR END INSTALLED). *AK

WHEN TURNING IN EITHER DIRECTION WITH MINOR ROAD IMPERFECTIONS, VEHICLE JUMPS AND PULLS TO THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. ALSO A NOISE CAN BE HEARD COMING FROM THE REAR OF VEHICLE. CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED. *AK VEHICLE WOULD DRIFT DANGEROUSLY INTO OPPOSITE LANES WHEN SLIGHT ROAD BUMPS ARE PRESENT. CONSUMER STATED TIRE AND SUSPENSION SEEM TO BE BOUNCING MORE THAN NORMAL. TIRE PRESSURE WAS CHANGED FROM 31 PSI TO 40 PSI WITH NO IMPROVEMENT TO WHEEL BOUNCE. *PH *NLM
SEATBELT FAILS TO RELEASE WHEN THE RELEASE BUTTON IS FULLY DEPRESSED. *AK
DEALER STATES THAT PART NOT REQUIRED FOR TRUCKS. A THREE YEAR OLD CHILD SHIFTED FROM PARK INTO REVERSE, AND VEHICLE TOOK OFF. *AK
I RECENTLY HAD A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH MY 2000 DODGE DURRANGO. I WAS TRAVELING SOUTH BOUND AT A RATE OF ABOUT 55-60 MPH. MY CAR SUDDENLY BEGAN TO SHUDDER AND BECAME HARD TO CONTROL. THE NEXT THING I NEW I HEARD THE LEFT FRONT TIRE BUST AND I WAS ABOUT 2 FEET FROM HITTING A NORTH BOUND CAR. THE CAR HEADING NORTH BOUND PULLED ALL THE WAY OVER TO THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE ROAD AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL MY CAR TO MY RIGHT. AFTER HAVING MY CAR TOWED AND CHECKED BY A MECHANIC I FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS NO PIN HOLDING THE WHEELBEARING IN PLACE. THIS CAUSED MY WHEELBEARING TO COME OFF MY CAR, THE TIRE TO BURST, THE RIM TO CRACK IN 1/2 AND THE BRAKE LINE TO BE CUT. THE MECHANIC THAT IS FIXING MY VEHICLE SAYS THAT THIS IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT, WHICH NEARLY KILLED ME. I CALLED DODGE TO DISCUSS THE PROBLEM, TO PREVENT THIS SAME TRAGEDY FROM HAPPENING TO ANYONE ELSE. THE REPRESENTATIVE FROM DODGE TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO SINCE MY CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND IF I WANTED TO BE SURE MY CARE WAS "SAFE" I COULD PAY A DODGE MECHANIC TO DO A SAFETY CHECK ON MY VEHICLE. I HAVE CONTACTED MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND THEY SUGGEST THAT I CONTACT YOUR AGENCY TO REPORT THE PROBLEM. I FEEL VERY STRONGLY THAT SOMETHING MUST BE DONE ABOUT THIS BEFORE LIVES ARE LOST. ENGINE MISSES AT IDLE SPEED. RPM'S VARY FROM 800 TO 500 AND SOMETIMES DOWN TO 300 AT WHICH POINT THE ENGINES STARTS TO LUG AND STRAINS TO KEEP RUNNING. IT DOESN'T DO THIS ALL THE TIME. FIRST THING IN THE MORNING USUALLY AND USUALLY WHEN I HAVE JUST COME OFF OF THE INTERSTATE. I'VE TAKEN IT TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS NEITHER WHICH HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIND A PROBLEM.(NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT....THEN NO PROBLEM). *AK
DRIVING ON WET, SNOWY ROAD AT 40 MPH. MY CAR SWERVED VIOLENTLY TO THE RIGHT AND INTO AN EMBANKMENT. HAVE HAD REPEATED BRAKE PROBLEMS WITH BRAKE ROTOR WARPING IN THE PAST. AFTER THE ACCIDENT AND REPAIR, THE CAR DEVELOPED VIOLENT VIBTRATION IN FRONT END. REPAIR SHOP DIAGNOSED BAD FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS. REPAIR SHOP INFORMED ME THAT REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE ON "NATIONAL BACK ORDER" WITH 600+WAITING LIST. APPEARS TO BE YET ANOTHER DESIGN FLAW WHICH MAY WELL HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO MY ACCIDENT AND LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL.*AK
MY 2000 DODGE DURANGO WAS DIAGNOSED WITH UNDERCARRIAGE PROBLEMS AND IN NEED OF BALL JOINT REPLACEMENT AND NUMEROUS OTHER PARTS IN BOTH FRONT TIRES. IN ADDITION, I HAVE REPLACED THE CV JOINTS ONCE ALREADY BECAUSE THEY WERE WORN OUT AND THEY ARE IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT AGAIN. THE BALL JOINTS ARE A CRITICAL PART OF THE SUSPENSION, STEERING, AND SAFETY OF ANY VEHICLE, PASSENGERS, AND OTHERS. IF THE BALL JOINTS SHALL FAIL, AS MANY HAVE INDICATED HAVE DONE ON DODGE DURANGO'S, THERE WOULD BE SERIOUS INJURY, DAMAGE, AND POTENTIAL DEATH FOR THOSE INVOLVED. I HAVE ALSO REPLACED THE TIRES TO DUE UNEVEN WARE, WHICH I HAVE BEEN TOLD COULD BE DUE TO THE BALL JOINTS. WITH THE HISTORY OF THE BALL JOINT PROBLEMS WITH DODGE DURANGOS, THERE SHOULD BE NO REASON DODGE DOESN'T RECALL THEM. DODGE'S LIABILITY AND CONSEQUENCE FOR NOT RECALLING THEM WILL BE FAR MORE DRAMATIC AND FINANCIALLY NEGATIVE AFTER MORE BALL JOINTS FAIL CAUSING MORE ACCIDENTS, INJURIES, AND DEATHS RESULTING IN LAWSUITS. FOR ONE WOULD HATE TO SEE ANYONE HURT OR KILLED DUE TO DODGE'S NEGLIGENCE. ESTIMATE TO FIX IS AROUND $1600 FOR THE BALL JOINTS IN THE FRONT END. THE CV JOINTS WILL ALSO NEED REPAIRING. SINCE THIS IS AN OBVIOUS DEFECT IN THE MANUFACTURING OF THE DURANGO, I DO NOT BELIEVE I SHOULD PAY FOR IT. DURANGO'S RECORD FOR INFERIOR UNDERCARRIAGE SHOULD BE ENOUGH FOR THE AUTO INDUSTRY TO DEMAND COMPENSATION TO ALL OWNERS OF THE DURANGO. THIS DOESN'T TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE POTENTIAL PROPERTY DAMAGE AND PHYSICAL INJURIES OR DEATHS THAT HAVE BEEN OR WILL BE CAUSED BY THIS DEFECT IN THE DODGE DURANGO BALL JOINTS.*AK
BRAKE ROTORS WERE WARPED AND WERE RESURFACED/ REPLACED. TRANSFER CASE WENT OUT DUE TO MAKING NOISE FROM METAL CHIPS. VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED.*AK
THE VEHICLE CONSTANTLY DRIFTS TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT WHILE DRIVING, THE DEALER PERFORMED A FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT BUT THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED, THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. NLM
VEHICLE MAKES GRINDING NOISE...CHRYSLER UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE PROBLEM. WHEEL BEARING REPLACED, DRIVESHAFT REPLACED, MOTOR MOUNT SHIM MACHINED AND INSTALLED...TO NO AVAIL. CHRYSLER NOW BELIEVES IT COULD BE THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL. CHRYSLER IS BASICALLY EXPERIMENTING WITH VEHICLE IN HOPES THAT NOISE WILL GO AWAY. I HAVE REQUESTED THAT THE VEHICLE BE RETURNED TO CHRYSLER (THROUGH VEHICLE BUY BACK PROGRAM). LONG TERM RELIABILITY AND SAFETY OF VEHICLE QUESTIONABLE AT THIS TIME. DRIVETRAIN HAS BEEN DETERMINED TO BE CAUSE OF PROBLEM. *AK
VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN TO THE SHOP REPEATEDLY FOR FRONT END ALIGNMENT PROBLEMS. CURRENTLY WORKING WITH ATTORNEY UNDER CALIFORNIA LEMON LAW. VEHICLE HAD TWO FRONT DEFECTIVE TIRES THAT WERE REPLACED BY GOODYEAR. THE FRONT END HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS AS BEING OUT OF ALIGMENT FIVE TIMES NOW. VEHICLE INITIALLY PULLED HARD TO THE RIGHT AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. AFTER SUPPOSEDLY BEING REPAIRED BY THE DEALERSHIP, THE VEHICLE STARTED PULLING HARD TO THE LEFT AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. I FEEL THAT THERE IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO SIGNIFICANTLY COMPENSATE "THE PULL" BY HOLDING THE STEERING WHEEL AT AN ANGLE. THE PULL OF THE VEHICLE IS DAMAGING THE FRONT TIRE THAT ARE CURRENTLY ON THE VEHICLE.*AK (TIRESIZE: 31-1050R15)( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: 31-1050R15 )
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE WOULD MAKE FUNNY NOISES IN THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL. ALSO, WOULD PULL TO THE RIGHT IF STEERING WHEEL WAS LET GO & BRAKES NOT APPLIED. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP & INFORMED CONSUMER IT WAS A CASTER ADJUSTMENT & IT WAS ALREADY DONE. HOWEVER, PROBLEM STILL EXISTED. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP IN ARIZONA, AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW, AND MANUFACTURER KNEW ABOUT IT*AK.
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROX. 40-45 MPH STEERING WHEEL COMPLETELY FELL OFF, IT WAS HOLDING ON BY 3 WIRES WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. DEALER IS INSPECTING VEHICLE. *AK

THE CAR IS HARD TO CONTROL (STEER) AND THE DEALER HAS WORKED ON IT TWO TIMES AND IS UNABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE STAR HOT LINE WAS CALLED TODAY, AND I WAS TOLD TO BRING THE CAR IN IN SIX DAYS AND THEY WOULD WORK ON IT AGAIN. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT HOW SAFE IT IS ON THE ROAD.
2000 DODGE DURANGO EXPERIENCED SLUDGE IN VEHICLE'S ENGINE.*MR THE OIL PRESSURE SUDDENLY DROPPED. THIS OCCURRED TWICE AND THE CONSUMER HAD A NEW OIL PUMP PUT IN. AFTER THE SECOND TIME, A SERVICEMAN ADVISED THE CONSUMER THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER WOULD LIKE DODGE TO REPLACE HER VEHICLE. *PH *JB *CB

2002 DODGE DURANGO POWER SEAT TRACK FAILED. *KB ***NAR*** THE SEAT WOULD ROCK BACK AND FORTH ABOUT AN INCH WHEN BRAKING OR ACCELERATING. THE SEAT TRACK HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE SO FAR. THE CONSUMER REPLACED THE TRACKS HIMSELF. WHILE REPLACING THE MOST RECENT TRACK THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE SEAT FRAME WAS FRACTURED IN TWO AREA. THE SEAT FRAME HAD TO BE WELDED BEFORE THE TRACKS COULD BE REPLACED. *NM
CONSUMER WAS DRIVING WHEN TRANSMISSION BECAME INOPERATIVE AT ONLY 3000 MILES. DEALER WILL REPLACE COMPLETE TRANSMISSION, BUT IT IS ON BACK ORDER.NO TRANSMISSION PARTS ARE AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
