TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH THE VEHICLE PULLED TO THE RIGHT. SHE STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAS HAD SEVERAL WHEEL ALIGNMENTS. SHE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE (RECALL#04V596000) FOR THE FRONT UPPER BALL JOINTS. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE UPPER BALL JOINTS DID NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED; HOWEVER THE PROBLEM CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 142,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,200. UPDATED 01/07/08.*LJ UPDATED 12/12/07
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RADIATOR COMES EQUIPPED WITH PLASTIC THAT IS RUBBING AGAINST THE PULLEY. THE FAILURE IS CAUSING THE RADIATOR TO EXPAND. SHE NOTIFIED THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER, BUT THEY HAVE NOT RESPONDED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE PURCHASE DATE, SPEED, AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
DRIVING THE DURANGO DOWN OUR HILL. BRAKES WERE LOST. IMMEDIATELY AFTER ACCIDENT I CHECK BRAKE FLUID, IT WAS FULL. THEN CHECK BRAKE PEDAL, IT DID GO TO FLOOR WITH NO EFFECT BY PUMPING THE BRAKES. DURANGO TOTALED AS WAS THE OTHER CAR THAT HIT MY WIFE AND KIDS. NO SERIOUS INJURY OCCURRED. COMPLETE BRAKE JOB 8 MONTHS BEFORE. HAVE HAD BRAKES PROBLEMS BEFORE, NEVER ABLE TO ISOLATED THE PROBLEM. *JB

STEERING WHEEL LOF MY VEHICLE LOST ITS CONTROL ON WHEELS,WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON I75(TRYING TO CHANGE LANE).I HEARD CRUNKING SOUND AND SOMEHOW MANGED TO PULL THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER.I TOWED THE VEHICLE TO MAINTAINENCE SHOP AND CAME TO KNOW THAT RACK AND PINION SYSTEM GOT BROKE DOWN AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.I WAS REALLY LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE SAVED. HOW CAN I TRUST THIS VEHICLE LATER ON,EVEN THOUGH I REPLACE THE RACK AND PINION SYSTEM.I FOUND SO MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE ON THIS MODEL VEHICLE IN THIS WEBSITE.MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE THE RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE DEFECTS? IF THE GOVERNMENT DOESN'T TAKE NECESSARY ACTION IT WOULD LEADS TO FATAL ACCIDENTS IN FUTURE.
WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW DOWN AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND ABS LIGHTS CAME ON. THINKING THE SYSTEM NEEDED TO BLEED I HAD THAT DONE. I DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME , AND FOUND IT VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP WHEN NEEDED. I HAD THE FOLLOWING PARTS REPLACED: MASTER CYLNDER, BRAKE POWER BOOSTER, ABS SYSTEM, REAR WHEEL CYLINDERS ,AND HAD THE LINES FLUSHED. I STILL HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO BRAKES! THERE WAS NO BRAKE PRESSURE AT ALL. THE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO RESISTANCE. TOOK TRUCK TO MECHANIC, AND THEY COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. SO IT STILL SAT WITH NO BRAKES. *AK
I OWN A 2000 DODGE DURANGO THAT SHUTS DOWN WHILE DRIVING. IT WAS A DANGEROUS SITUATION BECAUSE I DID NOT KNOW WHEN THE SITUATION WILL OCCUR. SOMETIMES IT HAPPENED WHEN I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. WHILE DRIVING, THE OIL PRESSURE DROPPED TO ZERO AND THE TRUCK SHUT-OFF, NEVER TO BE STARTED AGAIN. WHEN I HAD IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC, THEY TOLD ME I HAD A "COMMON" PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES. THAT BEING, ENGINE OIL SLUDGE. I HAD CHANGED THE OIL AS MY MANUAL REQUESTED AND STILL ENDED UP WITH THIS PROBLEM. I AM NOW HAVING TO PURCHASE A NEW ENGINE IF I WISH TO DRIVE IT AGAIN. A FEW WEEKS AGO, IT STARTED WITH THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT, AND GATE OPEN LIGHT COMING ON WHEN NOTHING WAS OPEN. A LOT OF ICE BUILD UP (BAD SEALS) MADE THE DRIVER DOOR DIFFICULT TO LATCH. A WEEK AGO WE WERE DRIVING AND ALL OF THE LOCKS STARTED UNLOCKING REPEATEDLY. NOW WE CAN'T EVEN LOCK OUR TRUCK, IT UNLOCKS ITSELF. IT DOES THIS WHETHER THE VEHICLE IS ON OR NOT. IT ALSO TURNS ON THE INTERIOR LIGHTS. THE SWITCHES DO NOT WORK TO LOCK THE DOORS. WE HAVE TO REMOVE THE FUSE (WHICH ALSO CONTROLS THE WIPERS, BAD IDEA) TO STOP THE LOCKS FROM UNLOCKING. ALSO, IT ARMS THE SECURITY SYSTEM ( I THINK)AND MAKES IT SO THE TRUCK SHUTS OFF ON IT'S OWN. I FEEL EXTREMELY UNSAFE NOW THAT I MY VEHICLE UNLOCKS ITSELF AND SHUTS OFF. LAST NIGHT WE CAME OUT TO THE PARKING LOT TO DISCOVER IT UNLOCKED AND THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WERE TURNING ON AND OFF THE WHOLE TIME. I HAVE TO TAKE MY 3 YEAR OLD IN THIS VEHICLE. I KNOW THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH A LOT OF DURANGOS AND CHRYSLER BETTER DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT NOW! THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE, AND I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S BEING IGNORED. *JB

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE TIRE ON THE VEHICLE ROLLED OUT INTO THE HIGHWAY AND STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE CAUSING DAMAGE TO THAT VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A CHRYSLER DODGE DEALER, WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. ALSO, THERE WAS ALSO MINOR DAMAGE TO THE FRONT BUMPER .
MAKE: DODGE MODEL: DURANGO YEAR: 2000, I ALWAYS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE DURANGO SINCE ABOUT 13,000, (NOW HAVE 93,000. REPLACEMENT OF BALL JOINTS, BRAKE CALIPERS, AND CONTINUOUS CHECKS FOR CLICKING AND VIBRATION FEELING IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THIS HAS NOT BEEN RIGHT FROM THE START. I BELIEVE THERE IS SOMETHING DEFECTIVE WITH THE STEERING AND FRONT END. EACH TIME I TAKE IT TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE THEY CAN NEVER DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE ENJOYED THE DURANGO, EXCEPT FOR THESE FRONT END PROBLEMS. THE STEERING MAKES NOISES AND HAS A FUNNY RESPONSE TO THE TURNING PROCESS. COULD YOU PLEASE REVIEW CLOSER. *AK
DODGE DURANGO'S WITH TWO WHEEL ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM PROBLEMS**CC THE REAR BRAKES LOCKED WHICH CAUSED THE AXLE TO BOUNCE SEVERELY. THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE STARTED SWERVING TO THE SIDE. THE REAR AXLE BOUNCE AND THE VEHICLES INSTABILITY SEEMED TO REDUCE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE FRONT BRAKES. THE ULTIMATE RESULT WAS A VERY SLIGHT BUMPER IMPACT WITH A SEMI-TRAILER. *JB

WE HAVE A 2000 DODGE DURANGO WITH A 5.9 ENGINE WITH OVER 82,000 MILES THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPEN WE WERE GOING DOWN THE RIVER TO OUR CABIN WHEN IT LOST OIL PRESSURE, SO WE CHANGED THE OIL WITH CHECK THE GAUGES. SO NOW IT HAPPEN AGAIN THE OIL PRESSURE DROPPED AGAIN CHANGED THE OIL THE LIGHT CAME ON CHECK GAUGES AFTER THE OIL WAS CHANGED AND IT HEATED UP THIS TIME BUT I DID GET IT BACK HOME. WHILE TRAVELING ON I-75 SOUTH AND JUST BEFORE THE 333.3 MILE MARKER, A LOUD DRONING NOISE WAS HEARD. IT ALMOST SOUNDED LIKE A VERY LOUD MUSCLE CAR NEARBY. THE NOISE CONTINUED FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES, THEN A SUDDEN LOUDER NOISE (ALMOST LIKE AN EXPLOSION) WAS HEARD AT THE SAME TIME AS A RECURRENT THUMP AND BANGING. THE SUV LURCHED AND AFTER MANAGING TO GET TO THE EMERGENCY LANE THROUGH MODERATE TRAFFIC, WE DISCOVERED THE LEFT REAR STEEL BELTED RADIAL HAD SEPARATED COMPLETELY FROM ITSELF INTO SHREDS AND COMPLETELY FROM THE RIM. IN DOING SO, THE RADIAL HAD EXPLODED OUTWARD AGAINST THE MUD FLAP, TEARING IT OFF AND AGAINST THE LEFT SIDE OF THE CAR TO INCLUDE THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER DOOR PANELS. THIS CONTACT WITH THE DOOR PANELS LEFT RUBBER EMBEDDED IN THE PAINT AND ALSO REMOVED PAINT ON SOME AREAS. A TOW TRUCK WAS CALLED THROUGH OUR INSURANCE COMPANY AND THE TIRE WAS CHANGED. THE FAILED TIRE REMAINS IN OUR POSSESSION, SHOULD ANYONE WISH TO INSPECT IT. THE TIRE IS MANUFACTURED BY BF GOODRICH AND IS A LIBERATOR RADIAL MEDALIST P23575R15 108-S M+S. IT HAD LESS THAN 5000 MILES ON IT. IT WAS SOLD TO US AND INSTALLED ON OUR SUV IN APRIL 2006 AT THE WALMART SUPER STORE TIRE CENTER ON 19TH AVE RD IN OCALA, FL. WE TRADED MICHELINS IN FOR THESE TIRES. THANK GOD IT WAS THE REAR TIRE THAT FAILED AND NOT A FRONT TIRE THAT WOULD HAVE ALMOST CERTAINLY CAUSED A FATAL ACCIDENT AT 70+ MPH. WE ARE VERY THANKFUL WE WERE NOT PHYSICALLY INJURED; HOWEVER, WE HAVE THREE MORE OF THESE TIRES STILL REMAINING ON OUR SUV. *JB

ON WET SURFACES, IN SEATTLE AREA, WHEN, THE BRAKES COME ON BY ABS, BUT THE BRAKING CAPACITY GOES DOWN TO LESS THAN 50 PERCENT BRAKE CAPACITY, RESULTING IN COLLISIONS, EVEN THOUGH DISTANCE FACTOR IS SAFE. CAR HAS 70,000 MILES ON IT. *NM

THE DEALERSHIP WAS CONTACTED, WHO PROVIDED THE NHTSA PHONE NUMBER TO REPORT THE INCIDENT. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED YET.
THE POWER LOCKS WON'T WORK AND THE POWER WINDOWS WON'T WORK. IT'S A HUGE PROBLEM WITH THE DODGE DURANGO. IF YOU EVER GET INTO A CAR WRECK YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO GET OUT. IT IS ALSO AT RISK FOR THEFT. *TR
MY STEERING ALL OF A SUDDEN WAS LOOSE AND SCARY TO DRIVE. I CHECKED MY POWERS STEERING FLUID TO FIND THAT I WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY OUT. SO I FILLED IT. ONE DAY LATER IT WAS DOWN AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO A SHOP AND FOUND OUT MY RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED, AT 75000 MILES. I HAVE HAD PLENTY OF VEHICLES OVER 150000 MILES AND NEVER REPLACED A RACK AND PINION. THIS JUST SEEMS TO BIZARRE FOR ME. ALSO MY TRANSMISSION SOMETIMES WONT GO INTO GEAR WHEN I SHIFT FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN IT WILL CLICK IN. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF ITS COLD OR WARM EITHER. WHEN I TOOK IT TO A SHOP THEY DROVE IT FOR A COUPLE DAYS AND COULDN'T FIND A PROBLEM BUT IT STILL DOES IT. *NM

2000 DODGE DURANGO WITH 75,000 MILES THE DRIVERS SIDE POWER SEAT BRACKET BECAME LOOSE. SLID FORWARD WITH BRAKING, BACK WHEN ACCELERATING. PARTS WERE ON BACK-ORDER DUE TO THE PART. IF THEY COULD GET THE PART IN IT WAS OVER $600.00 JUST FOR THE PART NOT COUNTING ISTALLATION. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 30 MPH, THE STEERING FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHO DETERMINED A COMPONENT IN THE STEERING COLUMN HAD FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WITH THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION AND THE ENGINE RUNNING, A CHILD CLIMBED INTO THE DRIVER'S SEAT, AND MOVED THE COLUMN GEAR SHIFT ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO ROLL BACKWARDS AND CRASH INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES, BUT THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED MODERATE DAMAGE. THE POLICE WERE ON THE SCENE, AND A REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER TO AWAIT FURTHER INSPECTION BY A FACTORY REPRESENTATIVE.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE 405 (8 LANE HIGHWAY IN LOS ANGELES) AND MY CHRYSLER INTREPID WITH 45,000 MILES ON IT BLEW UP! I HAD TO MERGE THROUGH 5 LANES OF TRAFFIC TO GET TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. I REALIZED I WASN'T IN A VERY GOOD NEIGHBORHOOD AND WHEN I WAS LOOKING FOR HELP I WAS APPROACHED BY WHAT APPEARED TO BE A GANG AND THEY TOOK ALL MY MONEY AND THREW ME TO THE GROUND. AFTER ALL OF THIS I FIND OUT THERE'S NOTHING I CAN DO BECAUSE THE ENGINE IS BLOWN TO OIL SLUDGE! I JUST PURCHASES THE CAR 2 MONTHS AGO AND IT ONLY HAS 45,000 MILES ON IT! PLUS I WAS ALMOST KILLED MERGING THROUGH TRAFFIC AND THEN BY A GANG! CHRYSLER IS ONLY GOING TO GET SOMEONE KILLED BY IGNORING THIS OBVIOUS PROBLEM. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. *NM
TREAD SEPARATION OF COOPER TIRES DOMINATOR SPORT AT TIRE WHICH CAUSED VEHICLE TO GO OUT OF CONTROL AND VEER OFF FREEWAY. VEHICLE WENT DOWN 225 FOOT EMBANKMENT. *JB
THE AUXILIARY FAN RELAY SHORTED OUT CAUSING THE POWER DISTRIBUTION BLOCK AND WIRING TO MELT. ALSO THE FAN COMMUNALLY RAN, DRAINING ALL VOLTAGE FROM THE BATTERY. THIS ALSO CAUSED A SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT, THOUGH THE DEALER DID NOT DISCLOSE WHAT CODE WAS SET. THE DEALER DID NOT FIX THIS THE SAME DAY, THEY ALLOWED ME TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH THE CONSTANTLY RUNNING FAN, FUSED TOGETHER WIRING, AND MELTED POWER DISTRIBUTION BLOCK BEFORE THEY HAD TIME TO FIX IT! *JB

HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND THEY NOTIFIED FRESNO DODGE. THE DEALER REFUSED TO PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIR BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT EXPERIENCING ANY FAILURES AT THE TIME. THE DEALER ALSO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT EVEN THOUGH HE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE, HE WOULD STILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS. THERE HAVE BEEN NO FAILURES TO DATE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 113,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000. THE CONSUMER STATED DOES NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THE DEALER WOULD NOT PERFORM THE RECALL AND WOULD NOT COVER THE COST OF THE RECALL. HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH BALL JOINTS AND CONTROL ARM ON 2000 DODGE DURANGO, THEY HAVE REPLACED THEM TWICE UNDER WARRANTY AND NOW THEY ARE BAD AGAIN AND NEED CHANGING AND DODGE WILL NOT COVER SINCE I AM OVER THE 100,000 MILES WARRANTY. THIS SHOULD BE A MAJOR RECALL SINCE I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THIS SINCE RIGHT AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW. *JB

THE CONTACT STATED THAT NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. ALL OF THE NECESSARY PARTS WERE ORDERED AND THE ENTIRE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY A RELATIVE. THE FRAME WAS ALSO STRAIGHTENED BY THE RELATIVE. THREE YEARS LATER, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE SIDE OF A TRUCK. AGAIN, NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INJURED IN EITHER CRASH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
THE COOLANT ERODED A HOLE IN THE TIMING CHAIN COVER FROM THE INSIDE TO THE OUTSIDE. THIS CAUSED COOLANT TO FREELY STREAM FROM THE ENGINE. WHEN THE SHOP TRIED TO ORDER THE PART THEY WERE PUT ON A "NATIONAL BACK ORDER LIST" ALONG WITH SEVENTY-FIVE OTHER UNITS. *NM
WE HAVE A 2000 DODGE DURANGO THAT NEEDS A NEW POWER BOX/HARNESS. MY MECHANIC TRIED TO GET A REPLACEMENT PART BUT WAS TOLD BY THE PARTS MANUFACTURER THAT DUE TO KNOWN PROBLEMS WITH THE DURANGO POWER BOX/HARNESS THAT THE PART WAS REDESIGNED BY DAIMLER CHRYSLER. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE PROBLEM WITH THE POWER BOX HARNESS SHORTED THE WIRING AND THAT I WAS LUCKY THAT IT DID NOT IGNITE WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THE COST TO COVER THE REPAIRS IS OVER $4,000. I BELIEVE THAT THIS PROBLEM SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED BY DAIMLER CHRYSLER AND THAT I SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF REPAIRS FOR SOMETHING THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED GRAVE DANGER TO ME AND MY FAMILY. *JB
LOWER BALL JOINT FAILURE/WHEEL BEARING FAILURE FOR 2000 DODGE DURANGO. THEY WERE REPLACED IN OCT 2002 ALSO. THE UPPER BALL JOINTS WERE REPLACED IN DEC 04. ON JUNE 1 THE LOWERS HAVE TO BE REPLACED AGAIN AND DODGE WILL NOT DO ANYTHING. THERE IS ONLY 83K ON THIS CAR. *JB
DODGE DURANGO 4X2. WE HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE UPPER BALL JOINT REPAIRED AND NOW THE STEERING KNUCKLE IS OUT ON THE VEHICLE. I HAVE CONTACT DODGE DEALERS AND CUSTOMER CARE AND WAS TOLD THE RECALL ON THIS ONLY PERTAINED TO THE 4X4. I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE 2000 4X2 AND THEY STATE IT IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. 2002 DODGE DURANGO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY, BLACK SMOKE WAS SEEN COMING FROM TAILPIPE. MECHANIC DETERMINED THIS WAS BECAUSE STEERING WHEEL FLUID LEAKING ONTO THE COMPUTER. *KB THE STEERING WHEEL HAD BEEN MAKING A CLUNKING AND WHINING NOISE WHEN TURNED. THIS WAS NOTICED PRIOR TO THE PROBLEM BEING DIAGNOSED. IT TOOK SEVERAL TRIPS TO THE DEALER AND MULTIPLE REPAIRS FOR THE DEALER TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER IS REQUESTING COMPENSATION FROM THE MANUFACTURER.*NM
AN AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCK OF OUR 2000 DODGE DURANGO DOES NOT UNLOCK ONE DOOR WHEN THE FRONT CONTROL IS ACTIVATED. THE LOCK HAS TO BE MANUALLY LIFTED. IF THE FRONT CONTROL IS NOT USED TO UNLOCK THE WHOLE CAR, THE ONE DEFECTIVE LOCK CANNOT BE UNLOCKED MANUALLY. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. THIS IS THE SECOND ACTIVATOR THAT HAS GONE BAD ON THIS CAR. I OWN A 2000 DODGE DURANGO. I CHANGE MY OIL EVERY 3,000 MILES. TODAY MY MECHANIC AND I FOUND A HEAVY AMOUNT OF SLUDGE UNDER OIL CAP AND ALL AROUND FILLER NECK. THIS INDICATES THAT THERE IS A HUGE BUILD UP OF SLUDGE IN THE ENGINE. THIS WILL ULTIMATELY LEAD TO ENGINE FAILURE VERY SOON. INTERNET SEARCHES REVEAL THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND CHRYSLER HAS DONE NOTHING ABOUT IT. MY DURANGO HAS 56,000 MILES ON IT AND I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. *NM
LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE DUE TO SLUDGE CAUSED THE ENGINE TO SEIZE. VEHICLE WAS WELL MAINTAINED, WHICH LUCKILY I HAVE ALL THE DOCUMENTATION. TRUSTED MECHANIC STATED THAT THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME HE HAS HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM AND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS TYPE OF ENGINE, AS THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW WHICH DOES NOT ALLOW OIL TO FLOW PROPERLY TO ALL PARTS OF ENGINE. HE STATED THAT IT WOULD BE BETTER TO PUT IN A NEW ENGINE AS THE REPAIR TO THE EXISTING ENGINE WOULD BE EXTENSIVE. I CALLED DODGE AND THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM. *NM
MY 2000 DURANGO HAS STARTED STALLING WHILE DRIVING. STEERING LOCKS UP AND IS HARD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. HAS DONE THIS AT MULTIPLE SPEEDS AND CONDITIONS OF DRIVING. MOSTLY HAPPENED IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. NO PRIOR WARNING TO IT STALLING OR LOSING ALL POWER. ONCE THE VEHICLE IS SHUT OFF IT IS HARD TO RE-START AGAIN, AT THIS TIME THE BATTERY, OIL PRESSURE, GAS AND TEMP GAUGES WONT OPERATE. I HAVE HAD TO WAIT UP WARDS OF AN HOUR BEFORE THE GAUGES WILL MOVE AND THE CAR WILL RESTART. THE GAUGE OR DASH LIGHTS NEVER INDICATE A PROBLEM, NOT UNTIL THE CAR DIES WILL THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT SOMETIMES COME ON. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN AND AFTER 2 TRIES TO FIX IT AND $500 THEY SAID IT WAS THE COMPUTER. NOW AFTER 3 WEEKS OF WAITING AND MORE MONEY SPENT, THEY SAY THE COMPUTER WAS REBUILT? AND IT STILL WOULD DIE AND WOULDN'T RESTART. THEN THEY PUT IN A NEW COMPUTER, I DROVE HOME, THEN NEVER MADE IT OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. BELIEVED TO BE CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE DESIGN OF RETRACTOR ASSEMBLY SEAT BELT GUIDE(S) ATTACHED TO INTERIOR FRONT DOOR POST. THIS CREATES A SERIOUS HAZARD TO OCCUPANTS DUE TO LOSS OF SEAT BELT INTEGRITY. ONE SEVERAL OCCASIONS (MORE THAN 3) THE VEHICLE HAS SHUT OFF COMPLETELY IN THE ROADWAY WITH NO WARNING. THE FUEL SEEMS TO BE IN A VAPOR LOCK OR THE FUEL PUMP IS NOT PUMPING CORRECTLY. I CURRENTLY DRIVE A 2000 DODGE DURANGO SLT. THE FRONT SEAT BRACKET IS FRAGILE AND CAN EASILY BREAK MAKING IT ROCK BACK AND FORTH.
