FIRE INVOLVING THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND THE LEFT REAR TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY TO A 2000 DODGE DURANGO SUV. THE FIRE STARTED AFTER THE LOSS OF DASH BOARD LIGHTS WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING. 10 MINUTES AFTER THE CAR WAS STOPPED, THE FIRE APPEARS TO HAVE ORIGINATED IN THE LEFT REAR TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY OR THE WIRING CLOSE TO THE TAIL LIGHT. *NM
ENGINE LOCK UP. IN JUNE OF THIS YEAR MY VEHICLE WAS HAVING A LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SENSOR SWITCH AND THEN FLUSHED THE ENGINE TWO TIMES. TWO DAYS AGO THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE DROPPED AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED WHILE I WAS DRIVING @ ABOUT 55 MILES PER HOUR. *NM
BRAKE CALIPER BOLTS. THIS IS A 2ND OCCURRENCE. I HAVE REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS ON THE 2000 DURANGO IT WAS NOTED THAT ONE BOLT WAS MISSING ON THE LEFT SIDE AND THE 2ND WAS STRIPPED. ON THE RIGHT SIDE ONE WAS STRIPPED. ON THE PREVIOUS PAD REPLACEMENT ONE WAS STRIPPED. THE REPLACEMENT BOLTS DO NOT APPEAR TO HAVE ENOUGH THREAD LENGTH TO MAKE A SECURE CONNECTION. *JB
I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN NOV 2000. TWICE SINCE I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE, THE MOUNTING BRACKETS HAVE BROKE WHILE ADJUSTING IN THE SEAT. I HAVE REPLACED THE SEATS ONCE. *NM
TRANSMISSION FAILURE. *NM
I TOOK MY 2000 DODGE DURANGO IN FOR ITS ANNUAL STATE INSPECTION. WHEN THE MECHANIC PUT THE CAR UP ON THE LIFT, THE TIRE FELL OFF. THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO AN UPPER BALL JOINT ISSUE. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS AND REPLACED THE DAMAGED TIRE. DODGE CLAIMS THAT THEY WILL ONLY PAY FOR THE COST OF THE UPPER BALL JOINT AND WILL NOT REIMBURSE FOR THE LOWER JOINT, TIRE, OR LABOR. ALL PARTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION. *NM
ENGINE HAS BEEN STALLING FROM STOPPED POSITION. ON THIS DATE, I TRIED TO PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC, BUT MOTOR STALLED. ALMOST CAUSED A COLLISION. I HAD MY TWO CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE. SO FAR, I HAVE REMOVED AND CLEANED THROTTLE BODY. INSTALLED NEW SPARK PLUGS (CORRECT GAP). REMOVED AND CLEANED PCV VALVE. AIR FILTER IS A K&N AND IS CLEAN AND OILED. DISTRIBUTOR, ROTOR, CAP AND PLUG WIRES ALL ONLY HAVE 20K MILES ON THEM. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS NEVER COME ON. COMPUTER IS NOT SHOWING ANY CODES. *JB
VEHICLE KEPT FLOODING OUT AND WOULD NOT START OVER A MONTH PERIOD IN OCTOBER OF 2005. TAKEN TO A GARAGE TO BE FIXED. THE COMPUTER SHOWED NO PROBLEM. AFTER GETTING IT STARTED VEHICLE WOULD BE TAKEN HOME AND SAME PROBLEM REPEATED ITSELF. AFTER 3 TRIP TO GARAGE FOR SAME PROBLEM THE VEHICLES PCM(ENGINE CONTROL COMPUTER) HAS BEEN REPLACED. DEALER ADVISED THAT VEHICLE WAS 7000 MILES OVER THE 80000 MILE WARRANTY ON THAT PARTICULAR PART. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD PROBLEM AFTER PROBLEM. FROM EXHAUST PROBLEMS TO TIMING CHAIN ASSEMBLERS FAILURE TO POWER DOOR LOCKS GOING OUT. I CAN NOT BELIEVE THAT CHRYLSER WAS NOT AWARE OF SOME OF THE PROBLEMS IN THE 200 DODGE DURANGO. *JB

I BOUGHT THE CAR WITH ONLY 75,000 MILES ON IT. I CHANGED THE OIL THE NEXT DAY AFTER PURCHASING. THEN 2 WEEKS AFTER THE CAR ENGINE SIZED ON ME WHILE DRIVING ON ROUTE 130 IN NEW-JERSEY. I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC ONLY TO REALIZE THAT IT WAS A SLUDGE PROBLEM AND THAT MY ENGINE WAS GONE. *NM
CONSUMER HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM VEHICLE WHEN TURNING LEFT. THE CONSUMER HAD A MECHANIC INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND WHEN HE REMOVED THE WHEEL THE HUB FELL IN HIS HAND IN SEVERAL PIECES. *TS *NM
LOUD GRINDING NOISE IN ELECTRIC DOOR LOCKS. CAN ONLY MANUALLY LOCK/UNLOCK THE DOOR. HAD ONE REPLACED AT $250 AND ANOTHER IS BEGINNING TO FAIL. CHILD WAS ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR BEFORE THE VEHICLE WAS AT A STOP. REAR HATCH LOCK "FLUTTERS" AND LOCKS/UNLOCKS BY ITSELF EVEN AFTER VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF AND KEY OUT OF IGNITION. *NM
POPPING NOIZE AND SENSATION IN REAR END PREVIOUSLY, TODAY ON HIGHWAY POPPED AND THEN 3/4 MILE LATER POPPED AND THEN STARTED VIBRATING AND MAKJNG CONTINUOS POPPING. CATASTROPHIC REAR END CARRIER AND AXLE CAME APART

THE DEALER DID NOT REALLY WANT TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT BECAUSE THE CONTACT HAD NOT BOUGHT THE CAR THERE, BUT DID SO. TWO WEEKS AGO, SHE TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND SPOKE TO AN INDIVIDUAL WHO TOLD HER THAT THE PARTS HAD BEEN THERE, BUT THEY RAN OUT OF THEM AGAIN, AND THE PARTS HAD BEEN SENT TO THE ORIGINAL DEALER.*AK
IN MARCH OF 05 I PURJUST 4 NEW 275/45/20 GOODYEAR TIRES FROM PRO TINT CUSTOM WHEELS. BY AUG.6,05 I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY I HAD MY RIGHT FR. TIRE HAD A BLOW!! I HAD THE TRUCK TOW TO PRO TINT TOCK. AND TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANY REASON FOR IT?AND THEY DIDN'T PURJUST A NEW TIRE. RIGHT AT 2 WEEK FROM THAT DAY MY WIFE & SON WERE TAVLING ON THE HIGHWAY AND HAD A BLOW OUT! HE SAY KIND OF SO THEY STARTED ON THAT AT11;43 AND THEY DID NOT FINSH UNTIL 3;45 AND WHEN IT TOOK THE PERSON TO TELL ME ALL HE COULD FIND WAS A TINY PIECE OF RUSTED PIN THAT COULD HAVE EASLY GOTTEN IN THERE WOW BEING TOW IT IS THE SIZE OF A TIP OF A PIN THAT YOU COULD NOT HARDLY SEE I TOLD HIM YOUR KIDING ME RIGHT I SAID IT TOOK YOU 3 AND ONE HALF OF A HOUR !! DT: THE CONTACT BOUGHT A USED TRUCK 10 MONTHS AGO. SHE HAD A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. ON 8-15-05 SHE HIT SOME SPEED BUMPS GOING OVER A BRIDGE AND SHE COULD NOT STEER THE VEHICLE. A MECHANIC TOLD HER THE LEFT LEAF SPRING BROKE. SHE BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER BECAUSE OF ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, AND THE WHOLE FRONT END SQUEAKED. SHE WENT TO A DODGE DEALER, AND THEY TOLD HER THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE BALL JOINTS. SHE DID HAVE THE BALL JOINTS FIXED. *AK WHILE DOING RESEARCH THE CONSUEMR NOTICED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS RECALLS FOR THE 2000 DODGE DURANGO 5.9L ENGINE. THE COSNUERM HAS EXPERIENCED PROBLEM WITH HER VEHICLE SIMILAR TO THOSE RECALLED ON THE 5.9L ENGINE DURANGO. THE CONSUMER HAS EXPERIENCED PROBLEM LIKE THE SUSPENSION MAKING NOISE, ANTITHEFT SYSTEM CANNOT BE SHUT OFF ONCE ACTIVATED. FRONT A/C FAN MAKES NOISE, THE DRIVER'S SIDE POWER SEAT SEAT RATTLES/CLICKS IN UPRIGHT POSITION, FRONT AXLE NOISE DURING ACCELERATION, THE BATTERY DIED THREE TIMES, REAR LEAF SPRINGS MADE NOISE. FRONT HEADLIGHT DIDN'T WORK DUE TO A CORRODED 12V WIRE TO THE RIGHT OF THE HEADLIGHT. THE BRAKES, ROTOS, BELT AND TENSIONER HAD TO BE REPLACED. *NM
DT: CONTACT STATED ON 8-9-05 RECEIVED A RECALL CONCERNING THE BALL JOINTS ON 2000 DODGE DURANGO. EIGHT MONTHS AGO WHEN SHE HEARD ABOUT THE RECALL SHE CALLED THE GARAGE, AND THEY TOLD HER THEY WERE OUT OF THE PARTS AND WOULD CALL HER BACK IN A FEW WEEKS. THEY WENT ON TO SAY IT WAS NOT SERIOUS AND SHE DID NOT NEED TO BE CONCERNED. AFTER ONE MONTH SHE CALLED THEM BACK, AND THEY SAID THEY HAD THE PARTS BUT MISSED CONSUMER'S NAME, AND WERE CURRENTLY OUT OF THE PARTS AGAIN. THEY WOULD CALL CONSUMER BACK WHEN THE PARTS CAME IN. THEY NEVER CALLED CONSUMER BACK. CONSUMER CALLED THE MANUFACTURER ON 8-9-05, AND THEY SAID TO USE A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP. *AK
2000 DODGE DURANGO DRIVERS SIDE ELECTRIC SEAT ROCKING CHAIR EFFECT. THERE IS ACME TREAD LONG SCREW (WORM GEAR) BETWEEN THE TOP AND BOTTOM TRACK. THE FRONT OF THE ACME SCREW RESTS IN A PLASTIC BEARING. THERE IS A GEAR ALUMINUM CASE FROM WHICH A SMALL TRANSMISSION CABLE ATTACHES TO THE FRONT OF THE WORM GEAR; BOTH ENDS OF THE CABLE HAVE A SQUARE SHAPE.THE CABLE IS NOT ATTACHED TO EITHER END. IT JUST SLIDES IN OR OUT EITHER SIDE. INSIDE BETWEEN THE TRACKS THERE IS AN ALUMINUM CASE THAT IS HELD IN PLACE WITH 2 TORQUE SCREWS TO THE TRACK. THE PROBLEM: INSIDE OF THE ALUMINUM PIECE THERE IS SUPPOSED TO BE A FILLER POSSIBLY MADE OF RUBBER, WHICH IS AFFECTED BY THE GREASE AND DISINTEGRATES OVER TIME. YOU WILL NOT FIND PIECES OF BROKEN PLASTIC OR RUBBER, THE RUBBER HAS BECOME SOME SORT OF ASPHALT WITH THE GREASE. BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF THE FILLER BETWEEN THE NUT AND THE INTERIOR OF THE ALUMINUM CASING, THERE IS GAP WHICH ALLOWS THE SEAT TO MOVE BACK AND FORWARD LIKE A ROCKING CHAIR. *TR
I RECENTLY RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM DAIMLERCHRYSLER FOR THE UPPER BALL JOINTS IN MY 2000 DODGE DURANGO. I CONTACTED THE COMPANY TO FIND OUT HOW TO HAVE MY CAR FIXED AS THERE IS NO DEALERSHIP WHERE I LIVE. I LET THEM KNOW I LIVED IN KETCHIKAN, ALASKA. THE WOMAN I SPOKE WITH TOLD ME TO CONTACT THE JUNEAU DEALERSHIP AS IT WAS THE CLOSEST TO ME. I CONTACTED THE JUNEAU DEALERSHIP WHO TOLD ME THAT HE COULD SEND ME THE PARTS FROM JUNEAU AND I COULD HAVE THE LABOR DONE IN KETCHIKAN, SENDING HIM THE BILL FOR THE LABOR, WHICH I WOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR AN ALLOTTED AMOUNT OF MONEY. I AGREED, BUT HE NEEDED TO FIND OUT IF HE COULD SEND ME BOTH BALL JOINTS, AS I HAD ONE BALL JOINT REPLACED IN AUGUST OF 2004, WITHOUT BEING REIMBURSED BY DAIMLERCHRYSLER. TODAY, AUGUST 1, 2005, THE GENTLEMAN FROM THE JUNEAU DEALERSHIP CALLED TO TELL ME THAT I SHOULD HAVE BOTH BALL JOINTS REPLACED, BUT THAT HE COULD NO LONGER SEND ME THE PARTS BECAUSE DAIMLERCHRYSLER HAD CONTACTED HIM AND NOW PROHIBITED HIM FROM DOING RECALLS IN THIS FASHION AS IT WAS DEEMED FRAUDULENT. I DIRECTLY CONTACTED DAIMLERCHRYSLER AND SPOKE WITH THE SUPERVISOR "KATHERINE" WHO STATED THAT I HAD TO TAKE MY CAR TO SEATTLE OR JUNEAU TO A DEALERSHIP FOR THE RECALL OR THEY WOULD NOT PAY TO FIX IT. I TOLD HER I LIVED ON AN ISLAND AND COULD NOT AFFORD TO PAY THE FERRY FEE TO DO THAT OR GO WITHOUT ANY TRANSPORTATION FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. SHE SAID THEY COULD NOT COMPENSATE ME FOR TRANSPORTATION AS IT WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL AND THAT THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR MY LIVING ON AN ISLAND, BUT THAT I HAD TO HAVE THE RECALL DONE BECAUSE IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. I TOLD HER I DIDN'T WANT THEM TO PAY FOR MY VEHICLE BEING TRANSPORTED, I JUST WANTED THEM TO SEND THE PARTS AS I HAD BEEN TOLD WOULD HAPPEN SO I COULD HAVE IT FIXED. SHE STATED THAT SHE HAD NO AUTHORITY TO OVERRIDE THE DECISION ABOUT THE JUNEAU DEALERSHIP. *NM
I OWN A 2000 DODGE DURANGO 2WD WITH 63000 MILES ON IT. THE ENGINE IS HAVING TO BE REPLACED. I WAS TOLD IT IS BECAUSE OF NOT HAVING OIL CHANGED, BUT I HAVE RECEIPTS THAT SHOW THE OIL WAS CHANGED REGULARLY. THIS IS VERY COSTLY AND I HAVE HEARD THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN DESCRIBED THE ENGINE HAS BEING FULL OF SLUDGE. *NM
I PURCHASED A 2000 DODGE DURANGO IN JUNE 2003. I HAVE HAD CONTINUING PROBLEMS WITH FRONT SUSPENSION, BALL JOINTS,RIGHT HUB ASSEMBLY. RIGHT SIDE HUB ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN REPLACED 5 TIMES IN THE LAST 6 YEARS AND I WAS JUST TOLD YESTERDAY THAT IT WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. I WAS ALSO INFORMED BY MY MECHANIC OF 18 YEARS, THE WHOLE FRONT SUSPENSION IS BAD AND THE DIFFERENTIAL WILL ALSO HAVE TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE OWNED THIS TRUCK 11 YEARS AND HAVE KEPT IT WELL MAINTAINED,IN ALL THIS TIME, I HAVE HAD ONLY ONE OFFICIAL RECALL FOR UPPER ARM BALL JOINTS IN 2005. I HAVE CALLED CHRYSLER TWICE TO QUESTION WHY I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE HUB ASSEMBLY SO FREQUENTLY(EVERY YEAR FOR THE LAST 5 OF 6 YEARS) AND THEY INSIST THERE IS NOTHING WRONG OR A SPECIFIC RECALL FOR MY VIN. I HAVE HAD ENOUGH WITH REPLACING THE SAME PART OVER AND OVER EVERY YEAR. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS HUB ASSEMBLY & FRONT SUSPENSION. I HAVE NOTICED THE SAME COMPLAINTS ONLINE AS MINE.... FRONT END VIBRATION WHEN REACHING SPEEDS OF 55-60 MPH, BALL JOINT ISSUES, HUB ASSEMBLY ISSUES, AND FRONT SUSPENSION ISSUES. THERE ARE CURRENTLY 2 RECALLS FOR 2000 DODGE DURANGO FRONT SUSPENSION AND HUB ASSEMBLY UNITS, AND CONVENIENTLY FOR CHRYSLER, NEITHER ARE MY VIN NUMBER DURANGO. SURPRISE, SURPRISE!! I WILL CONTINUE TO FILE COMPLAINTS WITH CHRYSLER UNTIL SOME ONE DECIDES TO TAKE ACTION AND GET THESE ISSUES REPAIRED ONCE AND FOR ALL. A BOLT HEAD SHEERED OFF OF THE EXHAUST LINE/MANIFOLD CONNECTION CAUSING AN AUDIBLE EXHAUST LEAK NEAR THE MANIFOLD. THE DEALER IS CHARGING $245 TO REPAIR THE BOLT INCLUDING THE TAPPING (REMOVAL) OF THE BOLT AND ITS REPLACEMENT.

THE MECHANIC STATED THE LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE CAUSED BY THE UPPER BALL JOINTS BEING OUT SO BADLY THAT THE VIBRATION CAUSED EXCESSIVE WEAR. *JB

DAIMLER/CHRYSLER DID A RECALL ON THE UPPER BALL JOINTS ON SOME DODGE DURANGOS. I HAVE HAD MY BALL JOINTS REPLACED TWO TIMES, THE FIRST TIME WAS THE SUMMER OF 2004, BEFORE THE RECALL HAPPENED, THEN AGAIN IN DEC 2004 WHEN THE RECALL WAS ANNOUNCED. TO MY UNDERSTANDING WHEN YOU REPLACE BALL JOINTS UPPER & LOWER SHOULD BE REPLACE TOGETHER BECAUSE THEY ARE ONE COMPONENT AS WITH THE CONTROL ARMS ALSO. AS AN RESULT OF NOT BEING REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME IT CAUSED DAMAGE TO MY SUV. I AM GOING TO DISPUTE THIS WITH THE MAKERS OF THE DODGE DURANGO, BECAUSE THESE COMPONENTS WORK TOGETHER,ONE GOING BAD CAUSES THE OTHER ONES TO GO BAD ALSO, THEY SHOULD HAVE REPAIRED THE UNIT CORRECTLY INSTEAD OF TAKING THE CHEAP WAY OUT. CHRYSLER SAID ALL THEY COULD DO WAS PUT A NOTE IN CONSUMER'S FILE. *AK
POWER STEERING SUDDENLY WENT OUT. YESTERDAY AFTERNOON I HAD MY 95 YR OLD MOTHER, 2 YR OLD GRANDSON, SON AND SISTER UP ON GRIZZLY PEAK IN BERKELY AND THE POWER STEERING WITHOUT PRIOR SIGNS JUST ALL OF A SUDDEN DID NOT FUNCTION. I CALLED CHRYSLER 24 HR HELP AND THEY SEND A FLAT BED TOLL TRUCK. MY 2000 DURANGO WITH 44,300 MILES WAS TOWED TO CONNELL CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE IN OAKLAND.
EXCESSIVE LOWER BALL JOINT WEAR I RECENTLY HAD THE UPPER BALL JOINT REPLACED THROUGH A RECALL WITH DODGE. DURING THE STATES ANNUAL INSPECTION THE LOWER BALL JOINT SHOWED EXCESSIVE WEAR AND FAILED THE STATE INSPECTION. THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 62,000 MILES ON IT AND NEARLY ALL ON PAVED ROADS. THE CONDITION THAT SUPPOSEDLY CAUSED THE RECALL FOR THE UPPER BALL JOINT IS THE SAME FOUND IN THE LOWER BALL JOINT. ADDITIONALLY, THERE IS NO GREASE FITTING TO ALLOW FOR GREASE TO BE ADDED AS NECESSARY.
FAILURE OF FRONT AIRBAGS AT APPROXIMATELY 40-45 MPH.
CHRYSLER HAS HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION ON THE DURANGO AND DAKOTA WITH THE TORQUE CONVERTER OVERHEATING CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO NOT SHIFT PROPERLY OR AT ALL. A SIMPLE FIX WOULD BE FOR CHRYSLER TO INSTALL AN ADEQUATE OIL COOLER. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH DODGE VEHICLES AND THE COMPANY IS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. NOW MY VEHICLE AT 94,000 WITH ALL SERVICES DONE PROPERLY AND ON TIME ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTORER IS COSTING ME $1500.00 TO FIX. WHEN I ASKED THE SERVICE MANAGER WHY CHRYSLER HAS NOT HAD A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM HIS RESPONSE WAS BECAUSE IT WOULD COST $1100 PER VEHICLE TO FIX. SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE TO LET OTHER CONSUMERS KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM. IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH OVERHEATING I COULD HAVE HAD ANOTHER COOLING SYSTEM INSTALL FOR LESS THAN $100.

RACK & PINION WAS REPLACED 4/4/03...NORMAL NOISE SIGNALING A PROBLEM. ON 4/22/05, WHEN BACKING OUT OF MY GARAGE, THE RACK & PINION FAILED AGAIN AND THIS TIME BOTH TIRES WENT DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS. IF I HAD BEEN ON THE ROAD, I MIGHT HAVE BEEN KILLED...I HAD NO STEERING AT ALL. IT WAS EVEN HARD TO GET IT MOVED THE REST OF THE WAY OUT OF THE GARAGE TO GET IT TOWED, SINCE BOTH TIRES WERE FREE SPINNING. THE REPAIRMAN AT HOOVER CHRYSLER SAID HE HAD NEVER SEEN SUCH A FAILURE. A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE CAME FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE NOISE WOULD ESCALATE REPEATEDLY WHILE DRIVING. DRIVER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE LEFT AND RIGHT UPPER BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO CORROSION. *AK
I HAVE A 2000 DODGE DURANGO THAT HAD A RECALL DUE TO UPPER BALL JOINTS. I HAD REPLACED ONE AT MY OWN EXPENSE AT THE DEALER, AND THEY HAD CHARGED ME FOR AN ALIGNMENT, WHICH DID MAKE SENSE FOR THIS TYPE OF REPAIR. AFTER THE RECALL WAS ANNOUNCED I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE SAME DEALER, AND THEY DID NOT ALIGN THE VEHICLE AFTER REPLACING THE SECOND BALL JOINT (SINCE I DID NOT HAVE TO PAY I ASSUME THEY SHORTED THIS STEP TO SAVE MONEY). I TOOK MY DURANGO IN FOR ROUTINE OIL CHANGE AND ADVISED ME THAT I NEEDED TO HAVE MY UPPER BALL JOINTS REPLACED. I ONLY HAVE 52,300 MILES AND USE THE VEHICLE TO DRIVE TO AND FROM WORK. WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE WHILE WAITING AT TRAFFIC LIGHT. THIS CAUSED THE SEAT MOUND TO SEPARATE AND DRIVER COLLAPSED IN THE REAR SEAT. THE BOLTS THAT HELD THE SEAT BROKE IN HALF ON BOTH SIDES. DRIVER WAS ADMITTED TO THE HOSPITAL WITH BACK PAINS.*AK

I HAVE A 2000 DODGE DURANGO R/T WITH FACTORY 17" WHEELS. IT WAS PURCHASED FROM RUSNAK DODGE IN PASADENA, CALIFORNIA WITH THOSE WHEELS ON IT. AFTER SEVERAL YEARS OF POOR BRAKING EXPERIENCE, WITH THE ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATING PREMATURELY, AND SEVERAL TIMES AT THE DEALERSHIP WITHOUT A FIX, A MECHANIC ACCIDENTALLY DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM. THERE IS NO AVAILABLE SELECTION IN THE SOFTWARE OF THE ON BOARD COMPUTER TO ALLOW FOR 17" WHEELS. ALL OF THE SELECTIONS ARE FOR THE 15" WHEELS THAT COME ON THE STANDARD MODEL. THE DEALERSHIP WAS ABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM BY MEASURING THE CIRCUMFERANCE OF MY TIRES, CALCULATING HOW MANY TIMES THEY ROTATE IN A MILE, AND CREATING A SETTING FOR THE 17" WHEELS. THE VEHICLE STOPS FAR BETTER NOW. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT OTHER DRIVERS WHO WOULD HAVE NO WAY TO KNOW THIS, BECAUSE I AM A 27 YEAR VETERAN FIRE DEPARTMENT CAPTAIN AND PARAMEDIC, AND RESPOND TO TRAFFIC COLLISIONS QUITE REGULARLY.
