WHEN USING THE SPEED CONTROL GOING DOWN A HILL IT WILL NOT HOLD BACK, IT WILL GAIN SPEED GOING DOWN HILL. THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. I HAVE A 4.7 ENGINE IN THE 04 DURANGO. THIS IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION! *JB
I HYDROPLAINED OFF THE ROAD, AND HIT A TELEPHONE POLE AT ABOUT 60 MPH. I SMASHED THE DRIVER SIDE FENDER INTO THE MOTOR, AND BROKE THE FRAME. ALSO, I BROKE BOTH SEATS IN THE FRONT BACK.THE DODGE INVESTIGATOR TOTALED IT . I ASKED DODGE WHAT THE WERE GOING TO DO, THEY SAID THAT I HAD TO HIT THE POLE DIRECTLY IN THE FRONT. I GUESS THE FRONT FENDER ISN'T FRONT ENOUGH, OR BREAKING THE FRAME IN THE FRONT ISN'T ENOUGH. THE SEATS BROKE BACK AND MY SEATBELT DIDN'T KEEP ME IN MY SEAT, I ENDED UP IN THE BACK. I AM STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY BROKEN WRIST,L AND MY SHOULDER. THE HOOD IS SMASHED AGAINST THE WINDSHIELD, THE FRONT BUMPER TORE OFF.*AK
WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN, THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. LOSS OF ALL POWER. WAS ABLE TO PULL THE CAR OVER, AVOID AN ACCIDENT AND STOP CAR. WAS ABLE TO RESTART ENGINE. *NM
I HAVE THE 04 DURANGO HEMI WITH 4600 MILES ON IT; THE VEHICLE STALLS ON AVERAGE TWICE A WEEK ON HILLS. THE DEALER CAN NOT PULL OFF ANY CODES FROM THE COMPUTER AND THUS IS NOT ALLOWED BY DODGE TO REPLACE PARTS UNLESS BAD. *JB THATS WHERE THE CATCH 22 COMES IN THE DEALER CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND DODGE WILL NOT LET THEM REPLACE PARTS TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. IT'S BEEN IN TO THE SHOP 3 TIMES NOW AND I KEEP ON GETTING THE SAME RESPONSE FROM THE DEALER WHICH IS "THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO". IT HAS EVEN STALLED AT 55 MPH WHILE MERGING INTO TRAFFIC. *JB
2004 DODGE DURANGO STALLING WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED AT 3 DIFFERENT TIMES- DEALER DENIED ANY PROBLEMS WITH SUCH STALLING AND COULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT UNLESS IT STALLED WHILE ONE OF THEIR MECHANICS IN CAR WHEN IT HAPPENED- CAR WAS ONLY A FEW MONTHS OLD WHEN THIS STARTED - LUCKY NOT TO HAVE CAUSED SEROIUS AND DEADLY MULTI-CAR ACCIDENT-THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM AND IT NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION!
THE CONSUMER HAS HAD FOUR TIRE BLOW OUTS ON HIS VEHICLE SINCE MARCH OF 2004. THE RUNNING BOARD WAS DAMAGED. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION. *JB
2004 DODGE DURANGO EXPERIENCING ALOT OF MECHANICAL PROBLEMS MAKING THE VEHICLE INOPERATIVE ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS.*MR THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE BLEW TWO MONTHS AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE STARTED IDLING ROUGH BUT THE DEALER COULD FIND ANYTHING WRONG. ONE MONTH AFTER THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED IT BLEW AGAIN.
GOODYEAR SRA WRANGLER HAD CATASTROPHIC SIDEWAL DETACHMENT AND FAILURE WITH 5000 MILES ON THE DODGE DURANGO 2004 MODEL. SHOULD HAVE KILLED ALL ABOARD BUT LUCKILY GOT OFF INTERSTAE JUST BARELY.*AK
MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO [XXX] HAS HAD AN INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION FAILURE. FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED 4 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE. IT IS NOW 14 MONTHS SINCE PURCHASE, THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN FOR REPAIRS 7 TIMES, AND THE CAUSE OF CASUALTY REMAINS UNDETERMINED. THIS IS LARGELY IN PART DUE TO DAIMLER CHRYSLER'S INATTENTION TO MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES. THEY ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THE SYMPTOM RATHER THAN THE CAUSE. THE ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION SHORTCOMING INTERMITTENTLY IMPACTS THE A/C, RADIO, CONSOLE LIGHTS, AND TODAY... THE AIRBAGS. PENDING THE TURN OF THE IGNITION KEY DETERMINES WHICH SYSTEM IS IMPACTED. ONE ONLY NEEDS TO TURN OFF THE CAR AND RESTART IT TO MOVE THE "GREMLIN" TO A DIFFERENT SYSTEM. ALSO, THE MECHANIC AT GREENBRIER DODGE CLAIMED THIS TO BE A NEW ELECTRICAL SYSTEM THAT OPERATES OFF OF BUSES. MORE IMPORTANTLY, HE CLAIMED THAT DAIMLER CHRYSLER HAS SEEN OCCURRENCES SIMILAR TO THAT OF MY OWN BEFORE. THIS IS A FIRE HAZARD WAITING TO HAPPEN. OR, IF IN A CRASH, WILL MY AIR BAG WORK? ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE CONSUMERS 2004 DODGE DURANGO STALLED WHILE DRIVING. *JB *SC *JB
2004 DODGE DURANGO STALLING WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.*MR THE CONSUMER STATED THE STALLING OCCURRED ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *JB
ENGINE/TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. ENGINE IDLES BETWEEN 400 AND 800 RPM AT A STOP AFTER WARM UP (15 MILES). AT LOW SPEEDS VEHICLE LURCHES FORWARD AND MUST BE HELD AT A STOP FIRMLY OR IT WILL TAKE OFF. STOPS ARE JERKY BECAUSE IT FEELS LIKE THE TRUCK IS FIGHTING. LIGHTS PULSE WITH THE ENGINE RPMS. FORCE ON THE VEHICLE SURGES WITH THE ENGINE RPMS. THIS IS A CONSTANT THING THAT PASSENGERS AND DRIVER CAN ACTIVELY FEEL, YET THE DEALERSHIP MAINTAINS THAT NOTHING IS WRONG. MANY TIMES (AT LEAST 8) THE ENGINE STALLS AT A STOP DURING THE RPM FLUCTUATION. THE TRANSMISSION STAYS IN SECOND OR HIGHER GEAR AT A STOP. I KNOW THIS BECAUSE WHEN I TOUCH THE GAS PEDAL THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS HARD AND THE TRUCK LEAPS FORWARD. IT ACTS AS THOUGH I HAD FLOORED IT EVEN IF I APPLY LIGHT PRESSURE. BELOW YOU HAVE INCIDENT DATE, THIS HAS BEEN CONSTANT AND INCREASING IN STRENGTH SINCE 6 MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT IT. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP 5 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. TSB HAVE BEEN USED. I JUST FIGURE THAT I WILL WAIT UNTIL THE VEHICLE FAILS COMPLETELY BUT I DON'T LIKE THAT OPTION EITHER. *JB
NOT REPORTING A FAILURE OR INCIDENT, JUST A POORLY MANUFACTURED VEHICLE WITH AN INHERENT PROBLEM THAT THE DEALER/COMPANY WAS AWARE OF BUT DID NOT DISCLOSE AT TIME OF PURCHASE, NOR DO THEY HAVE A FIX FOR IT. JUST A SHRUG OF THE SHOULDERS.
DT: SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING A NEW VEHICLE AND WHEN DESCENDING DOWNHILL THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SLIPPED. IT FELT AS IF IT SLIPPED INTO NEUTRAL. THIS OCCURRED WITH OR WITHOUT THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH ON. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER, WHO TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THIS WAS NORMAL. THE CONSUMER FELT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE, AND THE TRANSMISSION DID NOT MAINTAIN A STEADY PACE. NO REPAIRS OR CORRECTIONS HAVE BEEN MADE. THE CONSUMER HAS NOT CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER. *AK *NM
I WAS CONTACTED IN JULY BY CHRYSLER WHO SAID THAT MY 04 DODGE DURANGO SLT HAD A "HOT BAKE PAINT PROBLEM." THE FEMALE REP. ASKED IF I HAD NOTICED ANY PAINT FADING OR OTHER PROBLEMS. I TOLD HER "NO, NOT YET." I WAS INSTRUCTED TO BRING THE TRUCK BACK TO USA DODGE ALSO KNOWN AS MACK DODGE AND RETURN IT FOR ANOTHER TRUCK. THE SAME LEASE AGREEMENT STILL IN EFFECT, THE NEW TRUCK WOULD HAVE TO BE MSRP TO MSRP. I ASKED WHY THEY JUST WOULD NOT REPAINT IT AND PUT US IN A LOANER, SHE SAID, "SIR WOULDN'T YOU LIKE A NEW TRUCK !" I SAID, "YES !", ALREADY HAVING ABOUT 5,000 MILES I WOULD BE STARTING THE MILEAGE CLOCK TO ZERO. THEN I ASKED HOW DO I KNOW THAT THE NEW TRUCK I PICK OUT WON'T HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD RUN THE VIN TO MAKE SURE. WELL I WAS NOT ABLE TO FIND ANOTHER TRUCK MSRP TO MSRP EVEN AFTER CHECKING A FEW DEALERSHIPS. THE TRUCK GAVE US PROBLEMS IN THE PAST, STALL, NO START, NO STORED CODES ETC. THEY EVEN BLAMED IT ON THE KEY FOB ONCE. AFTER WHAT'S BEEN ON THE NEWS I AM GLAD THEY BOUGHT ME OUT OF THE TRUCK. I PRAY TO GOD THAT MY WIFE & 3 KIDS NEVER GOT HURT AND I WILL PRAY THAT NO ONE ELSE DOES EITHER. *JB
WHEN THE REAR POWER WINDOWS ARE DOWN THE WIND IS SO LOUD THAT IT IRRITATES THE OCCUPANT'S EAR. THE VEHICLE ALSO VIBRATES WHEN REAR WINDOWS ARE DOWN. *AK *NM
THIS REPRESENTS THE 5TH TIME MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO HAS GONE BACK TO MARTIN DODGE FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE MAKES A POPPING NOISE IN THE REAR AS IT GOES DOWN THE ROAD. THE REAR IS ALSO LOOSE OVER NORMAL ROADWAY CONDITIONS. ON THE FIRST REPAIR, THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED REAR SHOCKS, SWAY BAR, & TIGHTENED THE REAR. ON THE SECOND ATTEMPT, THEY REPLACED A STRIPPED BOLT IN THE REAR. ON THE THIRD ATTEMPT, THEY REPLACED THE BOLT'S HOUSING & THE BOLT AGAIN. ON THE FOURTH ATTEMPT, THEY TIGHTENED & LUBED THE ENTIRE REAR. THE SERVICE MANAGER'S REMARKS ON THE LATEST INVOICE IS THAT HE IS GOING TO TALK TO CHRYSLER CORPORATION ABOUT THIS CONTINUED PROBLEM. THE SERVICE MANAGER RELAYED TO MY WIFE THAT IT SOUNDS LIKE METAL TO METAL IS BEING RUBBED TOGETHER SOMEWHERE IN THE REAR. HE ALSO EXPRESSED THAT THIS WAS A PROBLEM ON PREVIOUS DURANGO MODELS, & THAT CHRYSLER FIXED SAME BY INSERTING PLASTIC SPACERS OF SOME KIND. THE SERVICE MANAGER & MY WIFE TEST DROVE THE DURANGO AFTER TODAY'S FOURTH REPAIR ATTEMPT. THE POPPING & SWAY WAS AS GREAT AS IT EVER WAS. I WILL BE REPRESENTED BY DAVID J. GORBERG, ESQ. WITH REGARD TO A NJ LEMON LAW CLAIM. TO DATE, I HAVE NOT BEEN CONTACTED BY NHTSA REGARDING MY 4 PREVIOUS COMPLAINTS.*AK
TODAY REPRESENTS THE FOURTH TIME THAT MY NEW DURANGO GOES BACK TO MY DEALERSHIP FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAS A DISTINCT "POPPING" NOISE FROM THE REAR WHEN DRIVING. THERE'S ALSO EXCESSIVE BOUNCE IN THE REAR SUSPENSION. IT IS MY OPINION THAT THIS EXCESSIVE BOUNCE SHOULD BECOME A FULL RECALL, AS IT IS UNSAFE. ON THE FIRST REPAIR ATTEMPT, MARTIN DODGE CHANGED THE REAR SHOCKS, SWAY BAR, & "TIGHTENED" THE REAR. ON THE SECOND ATTEMPT, THEY REPLACED A STRIPPED BOLT IN THE REAR. ON THE THIRD ATTEMPT, THEY REPLACED THE HOUSING THAT HELD THIS BOLT IN PLACE. IMMEDIATELY AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP AFTER THE THIRD REPAIR ATTEMPT, MY WIFE & I CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE SAME EXACT PROBLEMS. IT IS FOR THESE REASONS THAT THE VEHICLE WILL GO BACK TO MARTIN DODGE FOR A FOURTH REPAIR ATTEMPT. I WILL ALSO CONTACT A LEMON LAW ATTORNEY TODAY TO SEEK REMEDY. *LA

SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED, IT HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER AT LEAST TEN TIMES CONCERNING THIS FAILURE. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V092000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT PANEL) WAS REFERENCED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,600 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1.

WHILE DRIVING TRANSMISSION LIGHT AND ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AND REMAINED ON. CONSUMER DROVE THE VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE WIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. CONSUMER INFORMED THE MECHANIC THAT THIS PROBLEM STILL OCCURRED, AND HAD NOT BEEN RESOLVED. *AK NEW ELECTRIC HARNESS WERE REPLACED DUE TO METLED WIRES. 2 RECALLS FOUND BY THE CONSUMER: ONE ON WIRING UNDER THE DASH, AND THE OTHER ON ACCELERATOR CABLE. CONSUMER MADE 10 VISITS TO THE DEALER. *LA
ON 6/28/2004, MY AC STOPPED BLOWING COLD AIR, THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON, AND MY GEAR SHIFT WOULD NOT GO INTO PARK. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY FIXED THE GEAR SHIFT. THE AC NOT WORKING IS A RESULT OF AN APPARENT COMPUTER PROBLEM THAT REQUIRES A SOFTWARE UPDATE. THE SOFTWARE UPDATE DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAVE TAKEN MY DURANGO IN FOR SERVICE 4+ TIMES AND THE AC IS STILL NOT FIXED. IT BLOWS HOT AIR AT RANDOM. YOU CANNOT DRIVE WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN BECAUSE OF THE LOAD NOISE. IT HURTS YOUR EARS AND YOU HAVE TO IMMEDIATELY ROLL THEM UP, SAME THING WITH THE MOON ROOF. THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS REPAIRED BY REPLACING A MODULE. THE INFORMED ME THAT THE COMPUTER WAS NOT COMMUNITCATING WITH THE AIRBAG, RESULTING IN THE AIRBAG LIGHT TO COME ON. DOES THIS MEAN THAT THE AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY ON IMPACT IF THE COMPUTER IS NOT RECOGNIZING THAT IT HAS AN AIRBAG.*AK
AIR CONDITIONER FAILS TO COOL. FAN WORKS BUT BLOWS HOT AIR. IF VEH IS SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED THE UNIT AGAIN FUNCTIONS PROPERLY. DEALER REPLACED THE CONTROL UNIT BUT AIR CONDITIONER CONTINUES TO FAIL.*AK
I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT ON JUNE 24, 2004 IN WHICH MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO WAS TOTALLED. I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH AND HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE BROADSIDE - I HIT THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THEIR VEHICLE STRAIGHT ON. THERE WAS SIGNIFICANT FRONT END DAMAGE, THE FRONT DOORS WERE NOT ABLE TO BE OPENED, THE ENGINE WAS DAMAGED AND THE FRONT AXEL SNAPPED ON IMPACT. THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. WE CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND THEY DID AN "INVESTIGATION" AND WE WERE TOLD THAT THE ACCIDENT WAS NOT SEVERE ENOUGH AND THE RATE OF DECELERATION WAS NOT HIGH ENOUGH TO CAUSE THE AIRBAG TO DEPLOY. THEY SENT US A PAMPHLET WITH AIRBAG INFORMATION IN IT AND IN THE BOOKLET IT STATES THAT THE AIRBAG IS SET TO DEPLOY IN ACCIDENTS SIMILAR TO MINE AT 28 MPH. WE HAAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET A STRAIGHT ANWER FROM THEM AS TO WHY IN OUR CASE THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I WENT FROM 60 MPH TO 0 IN ABOUT 20 FEET.*AK
I HAVE HAD A 2004 5.7 LIMITED DODGE DURANGO 2004 VERSION AND HAVE CONSISTENT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. THE FIRST TIME THE TRUCK DID NOT START WHEN I WAS OUT OF STATE. I NEEDED TO GET TOWED TO A DODGE DEALER AND IT TOOK ALMOST 3 WEEKS TO FIX. THEY STATED THAT THE ELECTRIC SYSTEM SHORTED OUT AND REPLACED SOME SYSTEM WITHIN THE CAR. AFTER GETTING THE CAR BACK I HAD CONSISTENT PROBLEMS WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM,INTERIOR LIGHTS, RADIO SYSTEM ETC. THEY WOULD WORK SOMETIMES AND NOT WORK MOST OF THE TIME. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER (BRIDGE CHRYSLER IN NEW YORK) SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. AFTER CALLING THE MAIN COMPLAINT LINE SEVERAL TIMES THEY ASKED ME TO BRING IT TO ANOTHER DEALER IN BROOKLYN.(BAY RIDGE) THE SERVICE MANAGER DAN WORKED WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR ANOTHER 2 WEEKS TO FINALLY IDENTIFY THAT THE ORIGINAL TIME THE TRUCK DIED AND WAS FIXED THEY REPLACED THE WRONG PART. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN BROOKLYN FIXED THE TRUCK AND I DO NOT HAVE MAJOR PROBLEMS MOST OF THE TIME NOW BUT I WAS WITHOUT THE TRUCK FOR OVER 6 WEEKS OVER THE DURATION OF THE LEASE SO FAR. THERE CONTINUES TO BE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH MY TRUCK BUT I DO NOT HAVE THE TIME TO LEAVE THE TRUCK FOR ANOTHER 3 WEEKS. *JB
MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO WENT BACK TO MARTIN DODGE FOR EXCESSIVE BOUNCE IN THE REAR END ALONG WITH A CONTINUED POPPING NOISE DURING SAID BOUNCE. MARTIN DODGE ADVISED ME THAT THE "BELL CRANK BUSHING" WAS STRIPPED & WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THEIR SHOP FOR 3 DAYS INITIALLY, & 4 DAYS THE SECOND TIME. I WAS ADVISED THAT NEW SHOCKS & SWAY BAR WERE ORDERED TO BE INSTALLED. AS PER THE INVOICE OF JUNE 11, 2004, SAME WAS NOT COMPLETED. THE PART IS LISTED AT $81.55. THE LABOR IS LISTED AT $13.00. $13.00 LABOR FOR A VEHICLE IN THE SHOP 4 DAYS?????? I FIRST DROVE THE VEHICLE TODAY, JUNE 13, 2004. THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM IS OCCURRING. THE VEHICLE WILL BE BACK AT THE DEALERSHIP TOMORROW MORNING. THE BOUNCE IS SIMPLY NOT SAFE. THE POPPING NOISE IS ANNOYING. HOWEVER, I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING SAME. ALSO, THERE WAS NO EXPLANATION WHY THERE WOULD BE A STRIPPED BOLT ON A NEW VEHICLE. WHAT CAUSED THIS "BELL CRANK BUSHING" TO BECOME STRIPPED?*AK
DODGE DURANGO 2004 ST I JUST BOUGHT THIS MODEL NEW OFF THE FLOOR AND THERE IS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT ON THE DESIGN. IF YOU ARE DRIVING WITH THE BACK WINDOW/WINDOWS DOWN AND THE FRONT UP, THERE IS A PULSATING PRESSURE FROM AIRFLOW THAT MAKES YOUR EARDRUMS FEEL LIKE THEY ARE GOING TO POP. CANNOT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE WITHOUT AFFECTING THE HEALTH OF YOUR EARS UNLESS ALL WINDOWS ARE UP, OR THE FRONT WINDOWS ARE CRACKED WHEN THE BACK WINDOWS ARE DOWN. *NM
2004 DODGE DURANGO. CONSUMER STATES VEHICLE LEAKS WATER FROM THE SUNROOF INTO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER FIVE TIMES FOR THE SUNROOF LEAK, WHICH CAUSED OTHER COMPONENTS TO STOP WORKING.
INSTANT STALLING, WHETHER TURNING OR GOING STRAIGHT. WARM OR COLD DOESN'T MATTER. DEALER HAS NO CLUE.

WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH BRAKES FAILED. THE BRAKES WERE HARD TO PRESS. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. BUT, MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
THE VEHICLE'S RADIO STOPPED WORKING. *NM WHEN THE CONSUMER TRIED TO CHANGE LANES, HE NOTICED A DELAYED REACTION FROM THE TIME HE PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR TO THE RESPONSE OF THE VEHICLE. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE TRANSMISSION DOWN SHIFTED FOR A FEW SECONDS. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND EXPLAINED ALL THE PROBLEMS HE HAD EXPERIENCED AND AFTER A DIAGNOSTICS TEST WAS DONE, THE DEALER STATED THE COMPUTER DISPLAYED A CODE AND THEY DID NOT KNOW WHAT IT WAS SO THEY ERASED IT. ONE MONTH LATER, THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE RADIO AND WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK, THE GEAR SHIFTER DID NOT GO INTO THE PARK POSITION IT STAYED IN THE REVERSE POSITION. THE VEHICLE WENT BACK TO THE DEALER AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT 2 BOLTS AND A BRACKET WERE MISSING FROM THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER. THE CONSUMER STATED THE CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT AND A NEW PROBLEM HAD SURFACED. THERE WAS A WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD THAT READ PASS AIR BAG OFF. *JB
MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO HAS BEEN TAKEN IN FOR REPAIR FOR A DEFECT IN THE AIR BAG SYSTEM SEVERAL TIMES WITHOUT ANYONE BEING ABLE TO REPAIR IT. THE DEFECT IS IN THE NEW SYSTEM OF PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG WHERE THE SEAT WEIGHT DECIDES IF THE AIR BAG SHOULD BE ON OR OFF. MY SYSTEM DISABLES THE ENTIRE SYSTEM ON A REGULAR BASIS FOR NO APPARENT REASON AND THE SEAT HAS TO BE RECALIBRATED FOR THE LIGHT TO BE RESET. THIS IS VERY ALARMING AS I DRIVE MOST OF THE TIME WITHOUT ANY AIR BAGS. ONE TIME WHEN IT WAS IN FOR REPAIR THE DEALERSHIP GAVE ME A 2005 DODGE CARAVAN TO DRIVE AND IT ALSO HAD THE MAIN AIRBAG LIGHT AS WELL AS THE PASSENGER LIGHT ON AND WHEN I INQUIRED AS TO WHY I WAS TOLD BY AN EMPLOYEE THAT ALL OF THE CARAVANS CAME IN THAT WAY AND WERE AWAITING SENSORS. MINE WAS NEVER DETERMINED TO NEED A SENSOR BECAUSE ALL THEY DO IS SEE WHAT THE MAIN COMPUTER SAYS AND IT KEEPS SAYING TO RECALIBRATE THE SEAT WHICH SEEMS OBVIOUS THAT THERE IS MORE TO IT. I THINK THIS DESIGN IS FLAWED AND IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO BE PLACED IN AND IT NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED. I AM TRYING TO GET CHRYSLER TO GIVE ME A REFUND AS THE MICHIGAN LEMON LAW STATES BUT THEY ARE DRAGGING THEIR FEET. I KNOW OF OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE 2004 DURANGOS AND HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM ALSO. I RECENTLY BOUGHT A 2004 DODGE DURANGO SLT WITH THE HEMI ENGINE. WHEN I ACCELERATE OR COME TO STOPS, THERE WILL BE A "POPPING" NOISE COMING FROM SOMEWHERE IN THE REAR SUSPENSION. THIS OCCURS DAILY WITHOUT FAIL. ALSO, WHEN TRAVELLING OVER ROADWAYS, AT NORMAL SPEED, THERE IS EXCESSIVE BOUNCE OF THE VEHICLE FROM THE REAR ALONG WITH THIS POPPING NOISE/SENSATION. I WILL BE BRINGING THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER TODAY FOR THIS REPAIR. I'M NOT SURE IF THIS PROBLEM IS ASSOCIATED WITH THREE OTHER NHTSA TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS INVOLVING THE POWER TRAIN: AXLE ASSEMBLY, THE STABILIZER BAR BUSHING SQUAWK, OR THE EXHAUST DRONE. *AK
WHEN DRIVING AT AN UNDETERMINED SPEED, THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION, HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK AFTER THE FIFTH VISIT TO THE SERVICE DEALER (DESOTO MALL), THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT HAD NOT COME BACK ON. THE SHIFTING LIGHT HAD COME ON AND THE CONSUMER HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE SERVICE DEALER (CENTRAL MAINE DODGE) AND AFTER THREE VISITS TO THEM, THEY FOUND MELTED WIRES AND A BAD SENSOR. THE WIRES HAD HOLES IN THEM. CHRYSLER WOULD DO NOTHING TO HELP RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM. A TRANSMISSION SENSOR WAS PLACED IN THE VEHICLE. (THE SHIFT INDICATOR STAYED ON INTERMITTENTLY ALONG WITH ALL OF THE OTHER LIGHTS & THE TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR RATIONALITY WIRES WERE DAMAGED AND MELTED ON THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER) ALSO THE ENGINE HAD COME ON AND THE VEHICLE JUMPED FORWARD. *SC *JB
THE CONSUMER STATED THAT ACCELERATOR/BRAKE PEDAL WERE TOO CLOSE. TOGETHER. THIS COULD CAUSE THE CONSUMER TO DEPRESS THE PEDALS SIMULTANEOUSLY. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
THIS VEHICLE HAS NO ENGINE BRAKING. SELECTING "TOW/HAUL" WHICH TAKES IT OUT OF OVERDRIVE DOES NOT PROVIDE ENGINE BRAKING. SELECTING "2" AND "TOW/HAUL" DOES NOT SLOW THE VEHICLE ON A DOWNGRADE. IT IS DANGEROUS. I HAVE ASKED THE DEALER ABOUT IT AND NO RESPONSE. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND NO RESPONSE. IT IS THE MAGNUM V-8 WITH THE TRAILER HAULING PACKAGE. MY 2004 SLT 4.7 DURANGO HAD BEEN IDLING, WHAT SEEMED ROUGH FOR A NEW VEHICLE FOR A FEW DAY (AFTER A HARD RAIN) WHEN THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE IDLE BECAME VERY PRONOUNCED. IT WAS TAKEN STRAIGHT TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE CYLINDERS WERE MISFIRING. THEY PULLED THE SPRK PLUGS AND FOUND CORROSION AND RUST COVERING THE PLUG AND TOLD ME THAT WATER WAS GETTING INTO THE FIRING AREA. I SAW THE PLUG AND IT LOOKED LIKE IT CAME OUT OF A MUCH OLDER VEHICLE, NOT A 2004. WELL AS LUCK WOULD HAVE IT, WE HAD ANOTHER HARD RAIN AND GUESS WHAT. THIS TIME I WAS TOLD THAT ENGINEERS WERE GOING TO DESIGN A DEFLECTOR SHIELD TO STOP THIS PROBLEM AS ALTHOUGH IT HASN'T HAPPENED OFTEN IT HAS HAPPENED. ONLY THING IS, NO ONE CAN GIVE ME A TIME LINE ON WHEN THIS MIGHT BEGIN, LET ALONE BE COMPLETED. WHILE DRIVING SMOKE WAS COMING FROM VENTS. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE HEAD GASKET NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO WORN OUT PARTS. *AK
I AM 6'1" AND THE REARVIEW MIRROR BLOCKS MY VIEW IN MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO. WHEN LOOKING RIGHT OR TURNING RIGHT THE REARVIEW MIRROR IS EYE LEVEL ON ME, HENCE CREATING A SERIOUS BLINDSPOT. I HAVE E-MAILED DODGE AND SEEN THE DEALER. DEALER DOESN'T WANT TO TOUCH IT AND HAVE RECEIVED NO RESPONSE BACK FROM DODGE FOR 2 MONTHS NOW. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT HAS EXPERIENCED SEVERAL FAILURES WITH THIS VEHICLE FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE. IN RAINY WEATHER CONDITIONS, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL COMPLETELY FAILS, THE HEADLIGHTS BLINK ON AND OFF, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS DO NOT WORK, AND THE GEAR SHIFTER WILL NOT SHIFT INTO GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY FOUND WATER IN THE JUNCTION BOX, WHICH CAUSED CORROSION TO THE WIRING SYSTEM. THEY ALSO FOUND A SMALL CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD, WHICH ALLOWED WATER TO LEAK INTO THE JUNCTION BOX. THE VEHICLE IS BEING REPAIRED AT THE COST OF $3,800. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT NO COMPENSATION WOULD BE PROVIDED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 71,000.

RE: 2004 DODGE DURANGO, LIMITED. PURCHASED VEHICLE DEC 4, 2003. A WEEK AFTER I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE I NOTICED A TYPE OF "STICKING" ON THE FRONT END WHEN I TURNED THE WHEELS. I ASKED MY SON TO CHECK IT OUT & HE AGREED THAT"SOMETHING" WAS WRONG. A FEW DAYS LATER I HAD A PASSENGER IN THE VEHILCE WITH ME & THAT PESON NOTED THE STICKING TOO. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BROWN'S DODGE IN CHANTILLY, VA. HAD THE VEHICLE FOR A FEW DAYS & DECIDED THE STEERING ARM WAS BAD. PART HAD TO BE ORDERED BUT I COULD DRIVE THE VEHICLE.SAFELY. REPAIR MADE IN LATE JAN. WHEN I PICKED THE VEHICLE UP, SERVICE WRITER TOLD ME THAT REPLACING THE STEERING ARM HAD NOT CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. I DID NOT HEAR FROM CHRYSLER OR FROM MY DEALERSHIP.2 WEEKS AGO, I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE & LOST TOTAL STEERING POWER IN THE FRONT END IN TRAFFIC IN ALEXANDRIA, VA. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD.NO ONE WAS HURT OR INJURRED. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED MY SERVICE ADVISOR& WAS TOLD, TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP. BUT NOT TO TELL ANYONE ABOUT THE STEERING PROBLEM OR ABOUT CHRYSLER'S INVOLVEMENT. HE ACTUALLY TOLD ME TO"PLAY DUMB'. WHICH PISSED ME OFF TO THE POINT THAT I WANTED TO RUN HIS SORRY ASS OVER. NO WORD ON WHAT'S WRONG W/VEHICLE. THEY SAID, THEY DON'T THINK, EVEN IF THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM, THAT I WOULD EVER FEEL SAFE IN THE VEHICLE.
