TRIED TO START MY TRUCK AND ALL I AM HEARING IS LOUD KNOCKING. NO NOTICE OF ANYTHING BEING WRONG! ACCORDING TO ALL THE RESEARCH I HAVE DONE TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE SOUND IS, IT IS MOST LIKELY THE HYDROLOCK PROBLEM THAT CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF. I AM LUCKY THAT THIS DID NOT HAPPEN WHEN I WAS DRIVING , OR SOMEONE COULD HAVE GOTTEN SERIOUSLY HURT OR KILLED . IS THAT WHAT CHRYSLER IS WAITING FOR BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE? AFTER A THAW OF SNOW AND A EARLY MORNING RAIN, WENT TO START DURANGO AND WOULD NOT TURN OVER. AFTER A FEW ATTEMPTS DURANGO START TO A LOUD BANG AND RATTLING. TURNED OFF. TOLD THE ENGINE BLEW. NOTICED THE SVC 4WD LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH BOARD AND THEN THE VEHICLE'S REAR WHEELS LOCKED WHEN MAKING A TIGHT TURN INTO A PARKING SPACE. THE VEHICLE STOPPED AND WAS UNABLE TO MOVE AS IF BRAKE HAD BEEN APPLIED VERY HARD. UNPLUGGED THE BATTERY FOR ABOUT A MINUTE TO ALLOW THE SYSTEM TO RESET. THE SVC 4WD LIGHT DOESN'T COME ON. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE STILL LOCKS ITS REAR WHEELS WHEN MAKING A TIGHT TURN INTO A PARKING SPACE. *TR

I CONTINUE TO HAVE ENGINE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO DIE WHEN MAKING A TURN, OR LOW SPEED. I HAVE DONE SEVERAL THINGS TO FIX THIS. CHANGED THE BATTERY, OIL CHANGES, RADIATOR FLUSH. PLEASE ADVISE ON WHAT I NEED TO DO TO GET THIS FIXED. THERE ISN'T ANY CODES ON THE CHECK ENGINE COMPUTER. *TR
HAD JUST FIXED THE SENSORS ON THE TRUCK, PUT NEW BATTERY AND NEW TIRES. TOTALING OVER $1200. DRIVING THROUGH UNAVOIDABLE PUDDLES ON THE HIGHWAY, DURING A HEAVY RAIN IN MY AREA OF 4.5 INCHES. PARKED THE CAR IN MY DRIVEWAY AND WENT TO START IT THE NEXT MORNING AND HEARD THIS VERY LOUD GRINDING. HAD THE CAR TOWED. DIAGNOSIS: ENGINE HYDROLOCK. APPARENTLY DODGE HAS KNOWN OF THIS PROBLEM AS I SEE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ON YOUTUBE AND SIMILAR SITES. A $130 PART COULD'VE PREVENTED THIS FROM HAPPENING BUT WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. NOT SURE WHAT TO DO AT THIS POINT. DODGE REFUSING TO HELP AND INSURANCE SAYING IT IS A KNOWN DEFECT SO THEY WON'T COVER IT EITHER. *TR
AFTER A RAINSTORM, I WENT TO START MY VEHICLE AND IT WOULDN'T TURN OVER. THINKING IT WAS THE STARTER, I REPLACED THE STARTER AND VEHICLE STILL WOULD NOT START. AFTER MANUALLY ROTATING THE ENGINE BACK AND FORTH A FEW TIMES, THE ENGINE STARTED BUT THEN HAD A VERY LOUD ENGINE KNOCK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT OFFICIALLY DIAGNOSED BY A MECHANIC BUT ALL INDICATIONS ARE THAT IT IS ENGINE ROD FAILURE DUE TO HYDROLOCK CONDITION. THIS IS SUPPORTED BY THE IDEA THAT THE ENGINE WOULD FREQUENTLY STALL DURING THE RAIN AND IN THE CAR WASH, AS MANY OTHERS HAVE REPORTED. IT HAD PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE OVER THE COURSE OF A YEAR UNTIL THIS HAPPENED. VEHICLE WAS SOLD AS-IS FOR REPAIR OR ENGINE REPLACEMENT FOR FRACTION OF RETAIL VALUE. *TR

I WAS FILLING UP MY GAS TANK WHEN THE CAR STARTED SPITTING OUT GAS AT ME. LUCKILY I STOPPED IT FAST ENOUGH BUT HAD SOME GAS ON ME AND ALL OVER THE SIDE OF MY CAR. I'VE LOOKED THIS UP AND IT SEEMS TO BE A BIG PROBLEM WITH THE DURANGOS. I REALLY WOULD LIKE TO FILL MY CAR UP WITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT BEING COVERED IN GAS OR MY CAR STARTING TO RUST. *DT
I HAVE A 2004 DODGE DURANGO LIMITED WITH A 5.7 HEMI ENGINE. WE HAD A HEAVY RAIN STORM AT NIGHT AND THE NEXT MORNING I WENT TO START UP THE CAR AND HEARD A LOUD NOISE IN THE ENGINE UPON START UP FOLLOWED BY A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE. HAD TO GET IT TOWED TO A SHOP WHERE THEY DISCOVERED RAIN WATER SEEPED INTO THE CYLINDER WHICH BLEW THE ROD AND PISTONS DUE TO THE HEAVY RAIN WATER COMING DOWN THE WINDSHIELD AND SITTING ON TOP OF THE ENGINE OVERNIGHT. I STILL OWE 7000.00 ON THE LOAN AND NEEDS A NEW ENGINE. NOW DODGE KNOWS ABOUT THE FLAW AND WILL NOT BACK UP THERE BAD DESIGN FLAW AND FIX MY ENGINE. SO I HAVE NO CAR AND A 7000.00 BALANCE LEFT I HAVE TO STILL PAY. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. I HAVE A 2004 DODGE DURANGO 5.7 AND IT HAS BEEN HAVING AN ISSUE WITH THE BATTERY CONTINUOUSLY DRAINING. IT STARTED IN NOV 2014 WHEN THE BATTERY DRAINED AND WOULD NOT HOLD A CHARGE. I LET THE VEHICLE SIT UNTIL MARCH 2015, WHEN I NEED AN INSPECTION, THE SHOP RECOMMENDED I PURCHASE A NEW BATTERY. I DID AND THE BATTERY DRAINED WITH 3 WEEKS, SO I EVENTUALLY SCHEDULE AN APPT. WITH THE DEALER TO HAVE A DRAIN ON THE BATTERY CHECK, THEY SENT THE VEHICLE BACK STATING THERE WAS NO DRAWL ON THE BATTERY, IT SAT FOR MONTHS AGAIN, BECAUSE IT DRAINED BACK OUT. IN NOV. 2015 I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE G07 INSTRUMENT PANEL RECALL AND TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THAT. THEY CLAIMED THEY REPAIRED A WIRE IN THE PANEL AND THAT FIXED THE DRAIN, HOWEVER I STILL LOST POWER 2 WEEKS LATER. I THEN TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALER TO HAVE THE RECALL CHECKED AGAIN, BECAUSE OF A DEAD BATTERY AGAIN THE HEADLIGHTS AND INTERIOR DASH LIGHTS WOULD FLICKER ON AND OFF. 3 DAYS LATER STILL NOTHING THEY STATED THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE FAILURE AND THEY DID NOT FIND ANY DRAIN OR FLICKERING. THE VERY MOMENT I PICKED UP THE VEHICLE AND DROVE IT HOME WITH MY HEADLIGHTS ON THEY BEGAN TO FLICKER ON AND OFF. TWO DAYS LATER MY BATTERY WAS DEAD AGAIN. THIS MAKES NO SENSE TO ME THAT THE DEALER CAN NOT PIN POINT ANYTHING, SO I BEGAN TO PROCEED TO FIX ON MY OWN, I HAVE FOUND THAT THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH WAS SHORTED OUT CAUSING THE LIGHTS TO GO ON AND OFF, AND I REPLACED IT. I STILL HAVE A DRAIN SOMEWHERE THOUGH, BATTERY DIED WITHIN 8 HOURS OF THE LAST START.

RAIN POURED THROUGH THE WIPER COWL AND SATURATED THE ENGINE CAUSING IT TO HYDRO-LOCK AND BLOW A ROD. THIS IS JUST ONE OF THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS VEHICLE. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A VERY DANGEROUS MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. IS THE GOVERNMENT WAITING FOR MORE PEOPLE TO BE KILLED ON THE HIGHWAYS DUE TO THIS? I WAS DRIVING AND ACCELERATED TO PASS A VEHICLE. AS I SLOWED DOWN THERE WAS A LOUD BANG. I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE, LIFTED THE HOOD, AND SAW A SLIGHT WISP OF SMOKE. I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE WITHOUT SUCCESS. AS IT WAS BEING TOWED, I NOTICED OIL LEAKING FROM THE ENGINE. I HAVE A 2004 DODGE DURANGO SLT 5.7L HEMI. NEVER HAD ANY BIG ISSUES WITH IT UNTIL IN 2014 I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN I HEARD A LOUD BANG AND LOUD KNOCKING NOISES FOLLOWED SHORTLY BY AN ABRUPT SHUT OFF. I TRIED IMMEDIATELY TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BUT WHEN I LOST POWER STEERING FROM THE ENGINE CEIZING AND COULDN'T CORRECT MYSELF ENOUGH SO I WENT DOWN THE HILL OFF THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY WHILE TRYING TO BREAK WITH NO BRAKE BOOSTER ANYMORE AS WELL. I ENDED UP RUNNING INTO A COUPLE SMALL TREE'S AND FINALLY STOPPING . AIR BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY AND I ONLY JAMMED MY FINGER AND HURT MY BACK SOME BUT I ONLY MISSED A LARGER GROUP OF TREE BY INCHES. MY FRONT BUMPER WAS RIPPED OFF, MY DRIVERS SIDE HEADLIGHT WAS BROKE AS WELL AS MY GRILLE AND MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND FOUND OUT THAT THE ENGINE "HYDROLOCKED" AND A PISTON ROD PUNCHED THROUGH MY ENGINE AND BROKE A LOT OF OTHER THINGS INTERNALLY. NEEDLESS TO SAY THE ENGINE IS GONE. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS MORE PEOPLE THAT HAD THIS HAPPEN TO THEIR 04 AND 05 DODGE DURANGO WITH THE 5.7L HEMI. APPARENTLY THE WATER RUNS RIGHT DOWN ONTO THE ENGINE AND POOLS UP AND THE INTAKE IS FAULTY SO IT SUCKS THAT WATER UP AND CAUSES A CATASTROPHIC HYDROLOCK WITH THE ENGINE WHICH COULD KILL SOMEONE IF THEY LOSE POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES WITHIN A SECOND. I'VE BEEN TRYING TO SAVE TO GET A NEW ENGINE (WHICH WILL COST ABOUT $3800 ALONE) BECAUSE I BOUGHT THIS FOR TOO MUCH AND NEITHER DODGE OR MY INSURANCE WOULD COVER IT SO IT'S NOW A PILE OF SCRAP UNTIL I HOPEFULLY CAN GET A NEW ENGINE OR HAVE DODGE BUY THIS DEATH TRAP BACK. DODGE NEEDS TO BUY THESE BACK OR FIX THEM! THIS IS BY FAR NOT AN INDIVIDUAL CASE AND IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND COSTLY!

MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO LIMITED WITH THE HEMI 5.7 HAS AN ERRATIC IDLE AT STOPS WHENEVER IT RAINS. LATER IN THE WEEK I WENT ON THE HIGHWAY AT 45 MPH THE ENGINE STALLED DURING A RAIN STORM. I ONLY HAVE 125,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. I RESEARCHED THIS ONLINE AND FOUND IT WAS MOST LIKELY THE PLASTIC WIPER COWL BELOW THE WINDSHIELD ALLOWING WATER TO FLOW OVER THE TOP OF THE ENGINE, WHICH COLLECTS ON THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND MIGHT SLOWLY MAKE IT'S WAY IN TO THE BLOCK AND HYDROLOCK THE ENGINE. SERIOUSLY I THOUGHT. I WENT OUT THE NEXT DAY AND OPENED THE HOOD AND PLACED THE GARDEN HOSE OVER THE CENTER OF THE WINDSHIELD WITH THE WIPERS ON AND RAN THE WATER ON LOW, AND ALSO IN THE OFF POSITION. SURE ENOUGH A LOT OF WATER FLOWS IN TO THE DRIVER SIDE WIPER HOLE WHERE IT ROTATES AND SPREADS OUT OVER THE BACK TWO CYLINDERS OF THE CENTER OF THE ENGINE. I FOUND THERE IS POSSIBLY AN UPGRADE WIPER COWL THAT MAY PREVENT SOME OF THE WATER FLOW BUY NOT ALL OF IT. SO NOW I AM CONCERNED WITH THIS CIRCUMSTANCED EVEN AFTER I GET THE NEW COWL THAT WATER WILL STILL BE DAMAGING OR DESTROYING MY ENGINE ONE DAY FROM WATER FLOWING THROUGH THE COWL OVER THE TOP OF THE ENGINE ONCE AGAIN.
