THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V003000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT GASOLINE WOULD SPEW FROM THE FILLER NECK VALVE WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS REFUELED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V003000 (FUEL SYSTEM: GASOLINE: STORAGE TANK: ASSEMBLY) FOR THE INLET CHECK VALVE, BUT WAS TOLD BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,510 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
NHTSA ACTION NUMBER RQ08005: INV. CLOSED 9 JAN 09 THE SPIT BACK PROBLEM CONTINUED IN THE FIELD FOR VEHICLES BUILT FROM MID-OCTOBER THROUGH THE END OF NOVEMBER. CHRYSLER REPORTED PROCESS MODIFICATIONS WERE IMPLEMENTED ON 11/24/04 TO ADDRESS SPIT BACK PROBLEMS AND BELIEVES THESE PROCESS CHANGES WOULD HAVE BEEN INCORPORATED IN ALL VEHICLES BUILT AT THE ASSEMBLY PLANT AS OF 11/30/04. IN THE TWO PLUS YEARS SINCE THE INVESTIGATION WAS CLOSED, THE NETS HAS RECEIVED OVER 300 COMPLAINTS PERTAINING TO THE ISSUE THAT WAS SUPPOSEDLY CORRECTED BY THE EXPANDED RECALL. NEARLY ALL OF THESE COMPLAINTS STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WITH THE PROBLEM WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. PLEASE RE-OPEN THE INVESTIGATION! THE INVESTIGATION WAS CLOSED BASED ON A "BELIEF" WITHOUT CHECKING THE VERACITY OF THE CLAIM MADE BY CHRYSLER! THE SPIT-BACK PROBLEM IS STILL A PROBLEM- CHRYSLER KNOWS IT, OTHERWISE THEY WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN SO QUICK TO MAKE ME AN OFFER BECAUSE THEY'RE CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY. INCIDENTALLY, MY 2005 DURANGO WAS MANUFACTURED IN FEB OF 2005 MAKING IT OBVIOUS THAT THE "PROCESS MODIFICATIONS" WERE NOT INCORPORATED IN ALL VEHICLES AND THE SUPPLIER OF THE FUEL TANKS ACTUALLY DID NOT MAKE THE STATED MANUFACTURING CHANGE. MY RECOMMENDATION: EXPAND THE RECALL TO ANY 2005 DURANGO EXPERIENCING THE KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE RELATED TO THE FUEL SPIT BACK PROBLEM. UNLESS OF COURSE, CHRYSLER IS LEVERAGING RISK VS. WHEN FILLING FUEL TANK FUEL GURGLES THEN SPITS OUT AFTER THE NOZZLE CLICKS OFF. IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME I FILL THE TANK NO MATTER WHAT FILLING STATION. *TR
GAS SPLASHES OUT ON MYSELF AND THE CAR AND THE GROUND EVERYTIME I FILL UP WITH GASOLINE. IT HAS BEEN REPORTED AND VERIFIED THAT IN JAN OF '09 THERE WAS A MASSIVE RECALL ON 2005 DURANGOS REGARDING THIS SAFETY HAZARD. I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN TO A LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER AND THEY CHARGED ME $75.00 TO TELL ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR AND THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE ANY RECALL NOTICES FOR MY YEAR OF DURANGO. I HAVE THE COMPLAINT NUMBER FROM THE NHTSB ANNOUNCING THE MASSIVE RECALL OF THESE PARTICULAR VEHICLES. WHEN I COMPLAINED AGAIN, I WAS TOLD THE RECALL DID NOT INCLUDE MY VIN NUMBER.THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. A FIRE COULD START OR WORSE YET , I COULD CATCH ON FIRE WITH THE AMOUNT OF BACKSPLASH I RECEIVE EVERYTIME I FILL THE GAS TANK UP FULLY. THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT ON CHRYSLER'S PART AND IT NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED IMMEDIATELY. AT THE HIGH PRICE OF FUEL I DO NOT EXPECT TO BE DOUSED WITH A SHOWER OF GAS, NOR DO OTHER CUSTOMERS' PARKED NEAR MY CAR AT THE GAS STATION.

CANNOT FILL UP MY FUEL TANK WITHOUT GETTING GASOLINE SPRAY. ANYTIME THE GAS STATION PUMP IS ALLOWED TO SHUT ITSELF OFF IT SPRAYS FUEL OUT. THIS IS AT EVERY GAS STATION I HAVE EVER GONE TO. THE HAZARD OF A SIGNIFICANT FUEL SPILL! THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM. *TR
WHEN FILLING THE GAS TANK GAS WILL SPILL OUT OF THE FILLER NECK ONTO THE VEHICLE, GROUND, AND PERSON ONCE THE PUMP SHUTS OFF WHEN FULL. CONFIRMED BY DODGE DEALERSHIP THAT THE FILLER VALUE IN THE NECK IS MALFUNCTIONING. RESEARCHED AND FOUND RECALLS ON CERTAIN 2005 VINS AND EXTENDED WARRANTIES ON 2006-2008 MODELS. MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED AND DODGE WILL NOT SUPPORT THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH IT IS THE SAME ISSUE THEY HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED ON THE SAME MODEL YEAR. *TR
DURING FILL-UPS WITH GAS, FUEL SPILLS OUT. THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE RECALLS ON THE ISSUE, BUT THE DEALER SAYS OUR VIN IS NOT COVERED EVEN THOUGH IT FALLS WITHIN THE DATES OF MANUFACTURE THAT THE RECALL STATES. *TR
ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS WHEN FILLING MY GAS TANK THE AUTOMATIC SHUT OFF ( THAT TELLS YOU THE TANK IS FULL) HAS NOT KICKED IN CAUSING THE TANK TO OVER FLOW AND KICK BACK GAS SPRAY ALL OVER ME, MY FIANCE, OR THE ATTENDANT AT THE GAS STATION. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT HAS HAPPENED JUST ONCE, BUT MULTIPLE TIMES IN THE 9 MONTHS I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE CHECKED FOR RECALLS AND MY VIN COMES BACK WITH NO ACTIVE RECALLS, I EVEN WENT AS FAR AS READING IN DETAIL THE NHTSA RECALL REPORTS (09V003000 AND 05V034000) TO OBTAIN MANUFACTURE DATES TO COMPARE AGAINST MY OWN. NEEDLESS TO SAY MINE DOES NOT FIT IN THE DATE RANGE (3/1/04-11/30/04) HAVING BEEN MANUFACTURED IN FEBRUARY 2005, BUT DOES INFACT HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AS THE MODELS UNDER RECALL. THIS IS SOMETHING I WANT TO HAVE FIXED BUT DON'T FEEL I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY TO DO SO SEEING AS THIS IS AN ISSUE THEY KNEW THEY HAD AND CLAIMED TO HAVE FIXED BUT QUITE OBVIOUSLY DID NOT. 2005 DODGE DURANGO STALLING WHILE SLOWING DOWN OR ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. JANUARY 2010 DEALER SAID THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING UNLESS THEY COULD REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. HAPPENED AGAIN 4/8/2010. HOPEFULLY IT DOES NOT HAPPEN AGAIN IN TRAFFIC AND I GET KILLED OR KILL SOMEONE. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR. HAS HAPPENED OVER 15 TIMES ALREADY. THE ENGINE SUDDENLY, AND WITHOUT WARNING, STOPPED RUNNING. THIS HAPPENS AT LOW SPEEDS, ESPECIALLY WHEN SLOWING DOWN FOR A TURN. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, AS THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT WHEN THE ENGINE STOPS. THE DATE LISTED IS THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT, BUT THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE. *TR
CAR STALLS DURING IDLE AND CRUISING AT NORMAL SPEED. STALLING IS INTERMITTENT. ABLE TO RESTART IMMEDIATELY. NO ERROR CODES. UNABLE TO IDENTIFY CAUSE FOR STALLING. ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. *TR
I AM THE OWNER OF AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP, VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN BY ME WITH NO ENGINE RUNNING PROBLEM, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, NO NOISES OR SOUNDS TO INDICATE A PROBLEM. VEHICLE REASON FOR BEING AT SHOP WAS THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE WAS NOT WORKING. AFTER REPLACING THE TRANSFER CASE MOTOR, I TURNED KEY TO START VEHICLE, HEARD A LOUD NOISE, GOT OUT OF VEHICLE, INSPECTED, WE FOUND THAT THE ENGINE HAD THROWN THE NUMBER EIGHT CONNECTING ROD, THRU THE ENGINE BLOCK. I HAVE PHOTO'S, WITNESSES AND DOCUMENTATION. *TR

THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY STATED TO THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
EVERY TIME I FILL MY VEHICLE UP WITH GAS IT BACK WASHES OUT OF THE FILLER TUBE. WHEN MAKING CONTACT WITH DODGE CHRYSLER I WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE'S VIN # WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY OF THE PAST RECALLS. AT THIS TIME DODGE CHRYSLER HAS OFFERED A CO-PAY REMEDY SINCE THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE I WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE NEEDS A NEW GAS TANK AND FILLER NOZZLE. IS THERE ANYWAY TO GET THEM TO EXPAND THE VIN # CHART TO INCLUDE OTHER VEHICLES THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE??
DURING FILLING GAS ON MY 2005 DODGE DURANGO LIMITED (5.7 L HEMI), THE GAS HAS STARTED RUNNING OUT OR SPRAYING OUT OF THE FILLING NOZZLE AS THE FUEL TANK BECOMES FULL. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MORE THAN 5 OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND CLAIMS MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL FOR A FAULTY FUEL TANK CHECK VALVE, BUT I CONTINUALLY HAVE TO MONITOR MY GAS GAUGE AS I'M FILLING MY VEHICLE EACH TIME TO AVOID GAS SPEWING OUT AND ONTO THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,000.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, I HAVE A 2005 DODGE DURANGO 5.7L. RECENTLY AFTER FILLING THE FUEL TANK THE FUEL "SPITS BACK" OUT OF THE FILLER TUBE AND DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE TO THE GROUND. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEMS ON THESE AND OTHER CHRYSLER GROUP VEHICLES. I STARTED A CASE WITH CHRYSLER AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AS THEY WANTED. AFTER THE INSPECTION THEY DETERMINED THAT MY VEHICLE DOES NOT FALL UNDER A RECALL FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THERE IS A TSB # 14-001-09 TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM, BUT, MY VEHICLE IS NOT IN THE VIN RANGE FOR THE REPAIRS. I FEEL IT IS MORE OF A SAFETY ISSUE AND AN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE THAN AN INCONVENIENCE. THE DEALER STATES THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDS REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER $800 FOR THE TANK AND 2.5 HOURS OF LABOR. THE FUEL TANK DOES NOT TAKE THAT LONG TO REPLACE. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO GET THESE VEHICLES REPAIRED? OR SHOULD WE JUST CONTINUE TO SPILL RAW GASOLINE ON THE GROUND AFTER EVERY FILL UP? IF I WERE THE ONLY PERSON HAVING THESE ISSUES I WOULD TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THE NEEDED REPAIRS AND FIX IT MYSELF BUT, AS WE KNOW THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ISSUE. WHENEVER I FILL THE GAS TANK, GAS COMES POURING BACK OUT AT ME. I HAVE CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT MY VEHICLE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I FILL THE TANK! THERE'S AT LEAST A 1/4 TO 1/2 A GALLON OF GAS THAT COMES POURING OUT. NOT ONLY DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS WASTED FUEL I ALSO AM PUTTING SEVERAL PEOPLE AT RISK OF A FIRE EVERY TIME I FILL UP DUE TO THE UNSAFE NATURE OF THE PROBLEM. I EXPECT THAT WHEN I PURCHASE A VEHICLE THAT IT'S GOING TO BE SAFE. DOESN'T CHRYSLER HAVE THEIR CUSTOMERS SAFETY IN MIND....IF SO, CORRECT THE PROBLEM!
I HAVE A 2005 DODGE DURANGO AND AFTER FILLING WITH FUEL THE GAS WILL COME POURING BACK OUT OF THE FILLER SPOUT. I HAD MY MECHANIC LOOK AT IT AND HE CLEANED THE FILTER BUT FILLED IT AGAIN TODAY AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I HAD MY VIN CHECKED BUT IS NOT INCLUDED IN DODGES RECALL. THE DODGE DEALER QUOTED JUST UNDER $1,000 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR

THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED IN THE VEHICLE CONSTANTLY WHILE DRIVING OR PARKED. THE CONTACT STATED THE LIGHTS WOULD TURN OFF INTERMITTENTLY ON THEIR OWN AFTER BEING ILLUMINATED FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE HOURS. THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE ALSO HAD A BURNING SMELL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.

I OWN A 2005 DODGE DURANGO WHICH HAS HAD A FUEL ISSUE FROM THE DAY WE GOT IT. ALMOST EVERY TIME WE FILL THE TANK, GASOLINE CONTINUES TO SPILL OUT OF THE NOZZLE. THIS IS ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE WHEN WE FILL UP WITH THE OLDER STYLE PUMPS THAT DO NOT HAVE THE PLASTIC SLEEVES ON THEM. MY INVESTIGATION REVEALED A RECALL FOR THE INLET VALVE BUT CHRYSLER/DODGE SAYS MY VIN SERIES IS NOT COVERED. THIS ISSUE OBVIOUSLY ENCOMPASSES MORE VEHICLES THAN THE RECALL INDICATES. CHRYSLER STATED THEY WOULD LOOK INTO THE MATTER BUT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY A 95 DOLLAR DIAGNOSTIC AND IF IT WAS THE FUEL INLET VALVE.. IT WOULD REQUIRE "CUSTOMER PARTICIPATION" TO FIX. THEY ARE WILLING TO ASSIST BUT TELL ME I WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR BETWEEN 100 AND 500 DOLLARS OF THE REPAIR COSTS PLUS THE 95 DOLLAR DIAGNOSTIC FEE. I WISH TO ADD MY COMPLAINT TO THE LIST OF INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE ALREADY COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS VERY CONCERN. DODGE NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR ALL OF THE VEHICLES EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL SPEWING FROM THE TANK COULD POSSIBLY RESULT IN A FIRE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,288.

THE ENGINE RESTARTED AND RESUMED AS NORMAL. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED WITHOUT AN ENGINE PROTECTION COVER, WHICH ALLOWED WATER TO LEAK INTO THE ENGINE CAUSING SEVERE DAMAGE. THE SENSOR THROTTLE AND FOURTEEN OTHER PARTS WERE REPLACED WITHIN THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE REMAINED AT THE DEALER FOR ONE MONTH FOR THE REPAIRS. FOUR DAYS AFTER THE REPAIR, THE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT PLANNED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

2005 DODGE DURANGO - APPROXIMATELY A PINT TO A QUART OF FUEL OVERFLOWS FROM FUEL FILLER TUBE WHEN FILLING UP. THERE WAS AN APPARENT RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM BUT CHRYSLER/DODGE STATED THAT MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION TO A DEALER. QUOTED OVER $1100 FOR REPLACING WHOLE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY IN ORDER TO FIX PROBLEM. CHRYSLER SAID THEY WOULD COVER ALL BUT 369.50 AND THAT THE COMPANY NORMALLY DOES NOT COVER ANY AMOUNT OF REPAIR OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY OR A RECALL. CLEARLY, THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE AS MANY OTHER 2005 DURANGO OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. PROBLEM HAS PERSISTED SINCE PURCHASING FROM A FRIEND'S LEASE TURN-IN (APPROX 42K MI). CURRENTLY HAVE APPROX 78K MILES. CHRYSLER SHOULD COVER THIS DEFECT IN FULL IN THAT IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND IS NOT A PROBLEM STEMMING FROM WEAR AND TEAR OR ABUSE. *TR

I GOT A RECALL LETTER FOR MY 2005 DODGE DURANGO AT AROUND 60,000 MILES. I WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL DID NOT MATCH MY SUV VIN AND THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG. I NOW HAVE 76,000 MILES ON THE DURANGO AND IT STARTED THROWING UP FUEL WHEN COMPLETING A FILL UP. THIS HAPPENS EVERYTIME NOW. DODGE ALREADY SAID MY TRUCK WAS GOOD AND THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT.
