MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED THIS PRE-OWNED VEHICLE 10/29/2011. THIS HAPPENS EVERYTIME WE FILL THE TANK. THE FUEL HANDLE CLICKS TO SHUT OF THE FLOW OF GASOLINE TO THE TANK, THEN ABOUT A SECOND LATER, THE FUEL BEGINS TO SPEW BACK OUT OF THE TANK, DRAINING DOWN THE EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE, COVERING THE GROUND, AND MYSELF AS I STAND NEARBY. EACH TIME I ESTIMATE BETWEEN 1/4 & 1/2 GALLON OF FUEL IS WASTED. I VERIFIED WITH MY LOCAL CHRYSLER/DODGE/JEEP 5 STAR DEALER THAT MY VIN ISN'T INCLUDED IN THE LIMITED RECALL FROM YEARS PAST. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AS MY WIFE RUNS A HOME DAYCARE AND CHILDREN ARE FREQUENTLY IN THE DURANGO WHERE FUMES ARE PREVELANT AFTER THE SPILL. *TT
THE MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH IN THE STEERING COLUMN FAILS AND CAUSES THE WRONG TURN INDICATOR LIGHTS (BOTH ON THE DASH AND ON THE EXTERIOR) TO ACTIVATE. FOR EXAMPLE, WHEN PUSHING DOWN ON THE STALK TO INDICATE A LEFT TURN THE RIGHT TURN LIGHTS ARE ACTIVATED. SO, IF YOU ARE IN A LEFT TURN LANE AND YOU TRY TO INDICATE THAT YOU ARE TURNING LEFT THE RIGHT INDICATOR LIGHTS WILL ACTIVATE AND CONFUSE THE OTHER DRIVERS AND COULD CAUSE A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
ON NOV 11, I USED MY 2005 DURANGO LTD, 5.7 HEMI FOR ERRANDS. IT IS VERY LIGHTLY USED. I PARKED IT IN MY DRIVEWAY AND ON NOV 17 I WENT TO LOAD IT FOR A TRIP. I FOUND IT FILLED WITH AN ACRID SMOKE. I AIR'D IT OUT AND BEGAN LOOKING FOR THE CAUSE OF THE SMELL AND SMOKE. THE NEXT MORNING WE FOUND THAT THE MAIN WIRING BLOCK LOCATED IN THE DRIVERS SIDE KICK PANEL HAD MELTED DOWN, VERY MANY WIRES HAD MELTED AND THE COVER HAD MELTED TO THE PANEL AND CARPET. I CALLED DODGE THAT DAY, THEY SAID THEY WOULD HAVE THE CASE MGR CALL ME BY THE NEXT EVENING. BUT OF COURSE THAT WAS ACTUALLY BUSINESS DAYS SO MONDAY EVENING THEY CALLED ME TO VERIFY MY ADDRESS? I ASKED IF THIS WAS THE CASE MGR AND SHE SAID YES AND WAS CALLING TO VERIFY MY ADDRESS. OF COURSE I TOLD HER WE GAVE THE ADDRESS ON FRIDAY AND IT IS THE SAME AS WHEN I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE AND ON ALL OF MY RECORDS. SHE SAID SHE WOULD HAVE AN INSPECTOR CALL ME. HE CALLED ON THE 23RD AND INSPECTED IT ON SATURDAY 11/26/2011. HE TOOK ALOT OF PICTURES AND SAID WOULD FILE THE REPORT THE NEXT WEEK BUT HAD NO CONTROL WHEN DODGE WOULD CALL ME BACK OR IF DODGE WOULD DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THIS VEHICLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, WITH LOW MILES AND A DOCUMENTED SERVICE HISTORY. WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT IT WAS HELD AT THE FIRST DEALER I BROUGHT IT TO DUE TO THE CHECK VALVE RECALL. IT IS IN THE GAS TANK AND WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND CAUSING GAS TO FLY BACK OUT WHEN FILLING THE TANK. IT HAS BEEN DOING IT AGAIN LATELY FOR ABOUT THE LAST MONTH. THE INSPECTOR SAID THAT A RECALL HAD BEEN PERFORMED ON THE DASH PANEL WHICH HAD CAUSED FIRES. I TOLD HIM I HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF EVER GETTING THAT WORK DONE, UNLESS IT WAS BEFORE I BOUGHT IT OR THEY DID NOT TELL ME OF THE REPAIR WHEN IT WAS DONE. HE SAID GOOD I HAD ALL OF THE WINDOWS SHUT OR IT MAY HAVE IGNITED (AND BURNED MY HOUSE DOWN WITH US IN IT). NOW I HAVE A $35000 6 YR OLD, GREAT LOOKING BOAT ANCHOR! *TR
2005 DODGE DURANGO LIMITED, 5.7L HEMI V8 STALLS WHILE BACKING UP. FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED THE TRUCK STARTED RIGHT BACK UP IMMEDIATELY. THE SECOND TIME ON 11/28/11, IT TOOK 3 TIMES TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS ONLY HAPPENED WHILE IN REVERSE. APPARENTLY THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE HEMIS AND THERE IS A TSB #0802404 TO "REFLASH" THE ENGINE AND UPDATE THE SOFTWARE. THE FORUMS STATE THAT THIS IS A FIX FOR SOME VEHICLES, BUT NOT ALL. I AM SCARED TO BE IN THIS CAR WITH MY KIDS NOW-WHAT IF WE STALL ON THE HIGHWAY AND GET INTO A WRECK? PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE! OUR SAFETY IS MY NUMBER ONE CONCERN, AND SHOULD BE YOURS AS WELL, DODGE! *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN REFUELING THE VEHICLE, FUEL WOULD LEAK OUT OF THE VALVE AND SPILL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE STATING THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,355 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,103.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN ATTEMPTING A LEFT TURN THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED A TUNE-UP AND THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED BUT NO FAILURES WERE FOUND WITHIN THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
WHEN FILLING VEHICLE, AT FULL SHUTOFF, FUEL BLOWS BACK OUT THE FILLER TUBE. *JS

THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V034000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:FILLER PIPE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT FUEL SPILLED FROM THE TANK DURING REFUELING. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT QUALIFY FOR REPAIRS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V442000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY) THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,316 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 101,100.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE REFUELING, FUEL SPEW BACK OUT OF THE FILLER NECK SPRAYING INTO HER EYES, HAIR, AND ON HER CLOTHES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE CONTACT WAS THEN INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS INDICATIVE OF THE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED AFTER ADDING GASOLINE TO THE FUEL TANK THE FUEL WOULD SPILL OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER NOR HAD IT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED HIM THAT HE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V034000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:FILLER PIPE AND CAP). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000.
WHEN FILLING WITH GAS, FUEL WILL SPILL BACK OUT OF THE FILLING TUBE, SOME TIMES WHEN IT GETS FULL, OTHER TIMES IT WILL DO IT ALL THE TIME. DODGE HAS HAD RECALLS ON SOME OF THESE 2005 FOR SIMILAR ISSUES, BUT FOR SOME REASON OURS DOES NOT FALL INTO THE RANGE. EVERY TIME WILL FILL FUEL THERE IS GAS EVERYWHERE. *TR
WHILE FILING UP WITH GAS, WHEN THE PUMP CLICKS OFF WHEN IT IS FULL GAS SPEWS OUT OF THE FILLER NECK WHILE THE GAS NOZZLE IS STILL IN THERE.. APPARENTLY THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM AND A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED ON 2006-2007 MODELS BUT NOT 2005'S LIKE MINE.. IT WOULD BE NICE TO BE ABLE TO FILL MY TRUCK UP WITH GAS AND NOT HAVE IT SPEW OUT ALL OVER THE SIDE OF MY TRUCK AND THE GROUND.. *TR
WHEN FILLING WITH GAS FUEL WILL COME BACK OUT THE FILLING SPOUT AND SPILL GAS ALL OVER THE CAR AND GROUND, AND SOMETIMES THE PERSON FILLING IT. DODGE HAS HAD RECALL ON SOME OF THE 2005 FOR THE SAME PROBLEM BUT OURS DOES NOT FALL INTO THEIR RANGE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A BIG SAFETY CONCERN WITH FUEL GOING ON ME, THE CAR, AND THE GROUND. *TR
OIL BURNING SMELL WHEN PURCHASED. SALESMAN SAID POSSIBLE WHEN THEY CHANGED OIL SOME SPILLED ON ENGINE, IT HAS BEEN DOING IT SINCE NOW AND GOTTEN WORSE, WE REPLACED THE VALVE COVER GASKET WITH NO HELP HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S WRONG IT SMELLS LIKE BURNT OIL. *TR

THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED WHEN SUDDENLY, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE ENGINE RESTARTED AND THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE PROBLEM. THE FAILURE RECURRED FIVE TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. WHEN FILLING UP GAS TANK, THE TANK SPEWS GAS BACK. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT IN 2009. I DID HAVE MY VEHICLE CHECKED AT THAT TIME (THEN I WAS NOT HAVING PROBLEMS.) THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS TAKEN CARE OF. NOW, MY DURANGO IS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH IT. THE TANK EVEN SPEWS GAS WHEN FILLING SLOWLY. *TR

WHEN FUELING, APPROX. 1 TO 2 QUARTS OF GAS BURPS OUT OF THE FUEL FILLER TUBE. THIS OCCURS REGARDLESS OF HOW FAST OR SLOW THE FUEL IS DISPENSED. SEEMS TO NOT BE VENTING PROPERLY. I SEE DAIMLERCHRYSLER RECALL # E01 AND H45 HAVE BEEN ISSUED, HOWEVER MY MANUFACTURE DATES DO NOT FALL WITHIN RANGE. CAN MY VIN INFO BE CHECKED AND/OR ARE THERE ANY OTHER OPTIONS AVAILABLE TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED BY THE DEALER WITHOUT COST? *TR
WHEN I FILL UP WITH GASOLINE, IF I DO NOT STOP 2 GALLONS SHY OF A FILL OR SLOW IT TO A TRICKLE, IT WILL SPEW ABOUT A 1/2 GALLON OF GASOLINE DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE DONE AN ONLINE SEARCH AND FOUND CHRYSLER IS RECALLING CLOSE TO 25,000 2005 DODGE DURANGO VEHICLES AS THE FUEL TANK FILLER TUBE INLET CHECK VALVE MAY NOT FULLY CLOSE AT THE END OF REFUELING. THIS COULD ALLOW SOME FUEL TO ESCAPE FROM THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE FILLER NECK AT THE END OF REFUELING. I CALLED AND MY PARTICULAR 2005 DURANGO WAS NO INCLUDED IN THE RECALL WHILE CLEARLY HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IF DODGE WOULD EXPAND THEIR RECALL TO THOSE EXPERIENCING THIS EXACT PROBLEM. *JS
ENGINE RANDOMLY DIES REGARDLESS OF SPEED/RPM. RESTARTS. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. NO OTHER DASH WARNING LIGHTS COME ON. 5.8L HEMI NO OBD II DIAGNOSTICS CODES. *TR

THE FUEL CAP AND ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ALSO ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE FUEL CAP, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V034000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:FILLER PIPE AND CAP), THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DENIED ASSISTANCE REPAIRS BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V003000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: STORAGE: TANK ASSEMBLY). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 89,000.

DRIVING IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD AT 35 MPH AND THE ENGINE TURNED OFF COMPLETELY! I COASTED TO A FULL STOP, TURNED OFF THE IGNITION...WAITED 10 SECONDS AND THEN TURNED THE IGNITION BACK ON AND DROVE OFF. VEHICLE ALSO FEELS VERY SLUGGISH ESPECIALLY DRIVING OVER 55 MPH. YOU MUST REALLY PUSH THE PEDAL DOWN TO ACCELERATE. ENGINE SHUTTING OFF IS SOOOO DANGEROUS. GOD FOR BID THIS WILL HAPPEN WHEN IM DRIVING WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR WHILE ON THE FREEWAY!!! *TR

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO BE INSPECTED AND WAS TOLD THAT NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V034000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: STORAGE: TANK ASSEMBLY: FILLER PIPE AND CAP) WAS RELATED TO THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
I HAVE SEEN LOTS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE ONLINE AS WELL AS 2 OPEN AND CLOSED INVESTIGATIONS ON THIS WEBSITE! WHILE DRIVING MY 2005 DODGE DURANGO IT WILL SHUT OFF ON ITS OWN, STEERING IS IMPOSSIBLE AT THIS POINT. IT USE TO HAPPEN A LOT TO ME. NORMALLY IT WOULD ALWAYS HAPPEN PULLING IN OR BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY. BUT I LIVE IN RURAL WV AND WE HAVE MOUNTAINS AND CURVY ROADS. ONCE I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 30-35 MPH AND I WAS ON A CURVY ROAD AND IT STALLED OUT ON ME AND I ABOUT WENT OVER THE MOUNTAIN AS I COULD NOT STEER! WE HAD THE VEHICLE CHECKED OVER AND THERE WAS NO WARNING OUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. ULTIMATELY HAVE THE MECHANIC PLAYED THE GUESSING GAME, HE REPLACED THE EGR VALVE AND THAT HAD FIXED THE PROBLEM. JUST RECENTLY IT IS BEGINNING TO HAPPEN AGAIN. THIS INVESTIGATION NEEDS TO BE REOPENED! MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE. 2005 DODGE DURANGO. IN 2007 TIEROD END ON PASSENGER SIDE BROKE WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD. LUCKILY THERE WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT AND THE DEALER FIXED IT FOR FREE. IN AUGUST 2011 WE DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS LAYING ON THE FRONT AXLE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. THIS CAUSED THE BRAKE LINE TO RUB IN TWO AND CAUSED BRAKE FAILURE RESULTING IN A CRASH (WHICH IS HOW THE PROBLEM WAS DISCOVERED). THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER ALSO SAID HE PICKED UP A DURANGO THAT HAD THE UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINT BROKEN CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I PURCHASED MY 2005 DODGE DURANGO, 5.7L HEMI, USED FROM A DEALERSHIP. A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE AND THEY FLUSHED MY TRANSMISSION FLUID AND SAID THAT IF IT DID IT AGAIN THEY WOULD TRY REPLACING THE SOLENOID IN THE TRANSMISSION.
